hey Habs Nation the Montreal Canadians have hit a rough patch to start the 2024 to 25 season and the weight of expectations is proving to be a heavy burden what was meant to be a year of progression for this story franchise has instead brought frustration with the hab sitting uncomfortably close to the NHL’s basement while the struggles extend across the roster a few players have stood out for the wrong reasons today we focus on one of them Arbor shaaj a promising young blue Lin whose performance has left fans scratching their heads let’s start with how the trouble began even before the puck dropped on the regular season in the preseason shad’s aggressive style of play cross the line costing the Canadians two games thanks to untimely penalties it didn’t go unnoticed by head coach Martin St Louis who responded by reigning in the rugged Defender unfortunately that shift in approach appears to have thrown chikage off his game entirely known for his physicality and fearless approach shad’s early season performances have been uncharacteristically subdued the intimidation factor that wants defined his presence on the eyes has faded with fewer big hits and almost no trips to the Penalty Box for fighting defensively he’s looked out of sync playing some of the least effective hockey we’ve seen from him so far in his young career there are glimmers of hope he shown slight Improvement recently but his offensive numbers remain Bleak with just a couple of assists to his name the bigger concern though is his identity as a player when chikage brings his trademark physicality he risks Crossing into to undisciplined play but without that edge his impact on the game diminishes significantly this raises an uncomfortable question where does he fit in this Canadian’s lineup moving forward for chikage the path forward is all about balance he needs to ReDiscover that sweet spot where his physicality energizes the team without putting them at a disadvantage the Canadians are a team in search of an identity and chikage has the potential to be a big part of that but only if he finds his game again as it stands the clock is ticking and fans are waiting to see if he can turn things around goaps
