Five days before the yearly Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout roundball rivalry, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats are ranked No. 22 in the newest Associated Press poll released Monday. UC drops eight spots after their first loss last week at Villanova.

Among the Big 12, Iowa State is the highest-ranked at No. 3, behind No. 2 Auburn and new No. 1 Tennessee. The previous top team Kansas drops to 10th. Houston is No. 15, then the Bearcats are at No. 22. Big 12 teams receiving votes are Baylor, Arizona State and West Virginia. Upcoming Dec. 20 opponent Dayton also received votes.

The Bearcats took a big tumble in the USA Today Coaches poll dropping nine spots to No. 23. Iowa State tops the Big 12 teams there at No. 3, with Kansas 10th, Houston 13th and Baylor two spots behind UC at No. 25. Arizona State, West Virginia and Texas Tech also picked up votes from coaches.

Coming into Sunday’s game with Howard, the Bearcats were No. 13 in the KenPom.com tally with Xavier at No. 65. After their 84-67 triumph, they had dropped to No. 15 and by Monday they were 16th. In mathematical terms, the Bearcats’ schedule explains part of the issue as KenPom.com ranks it No. 331 out of 364. Xavier’s in a similar predicament at No. 302. The NCAA NET rankings dropped the Bearcats to No. 30 with Xavier at No. 90.

Previous Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootouts when teams were ranked
The last time both teams were ranked was Dec. 2, 2017, when UC was ranked No. 11 in AP/No. 9 in USA Today and Xavier was No. 21 in AP/20th in USA Today. The Musketeers prevailed at Cintas Center 89-76. That was the fourth time both teams came in ranked to the game.

The most notorious Shootouts involving rankings came in 1996 and 1999 when Skip Prosser’s Xavier teams twice knocked off the No. 1 Bearcats of Bob Huggins. Lenny Brown’s floater won it 71-69 at then-Shoemaker Center in ’96, with Kevin Frey’s lay-up at Cincinnati Gardens being the difference in ’99.

UC’s last win in Shootout at Fifth Third Arena?
It’s been six years. On Dec. 8, 2018, Jarron Cumberland had 19 points and Keith Williams 16 as the Bearcats bested the Musketeers 62-47. They would finish that season 28-7 with an American Athletic Conference championship, but lose in the NCAA tournament to No. 10 Iowa, 79-72 in Columbus to end the Mick Cronin era.

Cincinnati’s biggest day of college basketball tips off Saturday.

The No. 22 Cincinnati Bearcats take on the Xavier University Musketeers in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

The upcoming game is meeting No. 92 between the Bearcats and Musketeers, as the two local teams will go head-to-head in front of thousands of fans to earn bragging rights.

UC has not won the Crosstown Shootout at home since Dec. 8, 2018, when the Bearcats bested the Musketeers 62-47. The Bearcats’ last victory at Xavier came in 2001.

Ahead of the historic matchup, UC revealed the Bearcats will debut their new Black Cat jerseys.

show not a full cast of members because we’re missing our fearless leader Chuck but glad to have you Houdini how does it feel to get bet you were the midweek show during the football scene to start H how does it feel to be back a lot of nostalgia man uh it’s been what 30 days since I was running the the midweek show no it feels good to get back and you we didn’t have a game this week so I had some takes that I gotta get off my chest so I was like yes KNE house throw me in it’s it’s a big one let’s just say that it’s it’s a very big one because boys we got the shootout on Saturday some bad memories behind us us we’re hoping to have good memory start this week uh Houdini you kind of talked about the shootout after the Howard game so we’ll get to you again you can probably reiterate what you were talking about but I want to hear what Lily is thinking about when it comes to this year’s shootout now also Lily has been killing it on Twitter talking about football portal recruiting and we’ll get to that towards the end of the show but first and foremost I want to talk about the shootouts what everybody wants to hear as well Lily what are your thoughts on this year’s sh out man I’m stressed and the Howard first half didn’t help much but it’s it’s it doesn’t matter the Howard game doesn’t matter the Morgan State game doesn’t matter for Xavier if if they lost and we beat Howard by 70 I would feel the exact same as I feel right now there there’s nothing I don’t know if it’s scars or what but this my whole life this series Series has just been it just doesn’t make sense whatever you think’s going to happen doesn’t happen so I’m sure we’re going to have some hard-hitting analysis tonight of uh what’s exactly going to happen which is a Bearcats win by the way I’m with you I’m with you Hudson you you didn’t feel as good on Sunday no I didn’t and the problem is I I we said the same thing last year you see all of a sudden we’re like wait a minute this roster is built to beat Xavier I was firing off tweets uh the Denzel memes things like that and we went and lost to yeah it was a five and five Xavier team at the time who had just lost to Oakland at home and I’m thinking how how do we lose this I know we know I know it’s on the road last year at cintos which makes it a world of difference but I felt good going into that game so I I can’t feel good I think we’ve lost what eight out of the last 10 of these games we certainly weren’t the worst team in eight out of the last 10 regardless of where we’re playing so I’m cautiously optimistic about what we’re going to see although I did guarantee a win on uh on Sunday so um I’m excited to get into it but yes I am if you if you’re acting like you’re not nervous then you just haven’t watched the shootout over the last 20 years I’m nervous I I know you said if you feel good you might be lying to yourself maybe those weren’t your exact words but I’m sure that’s how a lot of uh you know Bearcat fans feel going into this game I’m going to switch it up I’m going to double down on how huge I was on this team to start the year I think we get a win and I think we get it by double digits I love this Bearcat team despite the last three games I think we’re the better team I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that we’re the better team and I think as time goes on we’re not going to just keep losing this game every single year that that can’t physically happen we are due for a win so I’m going out on a Ledge and I think we’re going to win this game by double digits are either of you with me I don’t care you know you can Xavier fans can clip this if we lose on Saturday and they can clown me all they want on the internet I do not care how I feel on Wednesday night is I think the Bearcats are going to take care of business and I think we might have I don’t want to say an easy win because even if D even if it’s double digits you still might have to pull away I think we have a comfortable win on Saturday I I think I’m there I I’m so like Dan skillings is my favorite player on the team and seeing him like the Howard game doesn’t matter to me in terms of the Savior game but seeing skillings back and looking healthy matters to me DayDay looking healthy matters to me I think the path to a blowout is is around Dan skillings getting offensive boards oh I mean he’s such a goofy player like he’s just slippery and you like you saw all the stuff that was happening in the Howard game like he he didn’t really show up on the stat sheet but he was getting buckets that save he had on on that he turned it over and then he got the ball back was one of the craziest plays we’ll see all year probably and and Xavier has had a pretty good yeah that their Elite defensive rebounding team kenpong number eight in the country now they haven’t played anybody that’s great at offensive rebounding except Michigan and Michigan could not miss so the offens their defensive rebounding might be a little inflated on kenpom so I’m thinking with scalings back maybe that’s something we can get some cheap we’re in just in a desperate need like that Villanova game we weren’t getting easy buckets we weren’t getting those we had a couple transition plays that got us like maybe six to eight points but we need 10 easy we need like 10 to 12 points of easy buckets and skillings causes Havoc chaos like around the rim things just happen when he’s in the game and I think that path to the blowout is is skillings having a like you know one of those crazy games with five offensive rebounds and I I think we win I think we cover I don’t know what the spread is yet I think we’ll get close to 10 win by 10 it should probably be around now that I’m thinking about we got to be favored by what at least seven I would think going in seven we got to knock down shots though in every year I know we’re harping on this but every year somebody from the clouds from Xavier just goes Steph Curry mode man and just starts drilling just raining threes so that’s what makes me nervous um obviously knocking down threes is going to be a big aspect as is every game that we play um but Xavier’s got some Shooters man so I mean they could shoot their their way back into this I am worried sick we didn’t see freem manle last year he was out all last year so we didn’t get to see a preview of the matchup how isize or we even have a ziz playing freem mantle because that worries me he’s not a great three-point shooter but he can get out there that means a ziz is gonna have to go to the three-point line a lot of people clamoring for Dylan Mitchell go small put skillings at the four I don’t think Wes is gonna do it he hasn’t shown that he that he likes to switch that thing up so we will see but yes I I will lock in whatever the spread is guaranteed and I say we win by double digits as well I want I got a couple things to each of your points first off we have Chuck in the chat if if everybody’s seeing locked on Warriors that’s Charlie and he’s saying if we’re nervous we got a problem win a game you’re supposed to win I’m with him on that now moving on to Lily mentioning dance what if if you’re if you’re not nervous you don’t have a pulse all right I get you get nervous for big games that’s that’s part of being alive folks I more so the players they should not be nervous it’s more so the players it’s just another game right that’s all they’re saying in the op pressors well yeah anyway moving on to what Lily mentioned with Skilling skillings has two points in the shootout he had two points last year he had zero points as a freshman granted he only played five minutes as a freshman we need skillings to shoot up shoot up to show up in the shootout show up in the shootout that’s what we need from Dan skillings also Hudson you mentioned they’re a great three-point shooting team I’m looking at last year’s since you mentioned the shootout of last year without freemantle let’s talk about last year’s 8479 loss olivari had 27 he’s gone thankfully yes mcnight he had 20 those were the two performances from last year’s shootout they also shot 47% from three so it does seem like they the the basket is just way bigger for Xavier against Cincinnati at that same time we shot 21% from three that that does it right there alone such a wide margin when you’re also putting up a good amount of three-point shots I don’t have that number in front of me let’s go through uc’s game last year jizzel had 19 Newman had 18 lock in 17 and DayDay 15 Seamus and Dan both scored two points so those are the two guys we need to step up do you have any worries about those two guys stepping up I don’t and that helps because it’s at home Houdini so what I hate to bring it up again I swore that we weren’t going to bring this up but Wes even brought it up that seos that was like right after he got hit by a Subaru so I don’t think he was fully locked in at that point clearly he he turned it on towards the second half of the season I seamos just strikes me as a guy that he’s not worried about this moment I don’t think he’s gonna be nervous I think he’s a gamer he’s gonna show up for sure jizzel has worried me a little bit just from a shooting perspective that mid-range doesn’t seem to be as clean as it was last year he’s a playmaker though he’ll find a way to affect the game now the other guys now skillings is a wild card he’s played three games all year so skillings is the biggest X Factor of this game he should average in that 15-point range if we can get something like that from skillings I think we win this game for sure if if skillings is still Rusty and doesn’t have it then we’re talking about a dog fight and I don’t want to be in a dog fight Lily what about you and and you know I just I talked about skillings being the reason why we’re going to win this thing but bet Hickman Paige Reed sorry guys he’s going to play they got they got to have better minutes Paige having a good game would be awesome because he’s kind of been just fouling a lot and stands out a little is maybe not like fully ready and I think he will be you can see the talent and Wes rids about him that’s usually a good sign like Wes is a straight shooter you could tell the guys he loves and you know he loves Paige like he’s very obvious with that and Betsy has that lingering foot issue it sounds like but he’s been practicing on it so it’s not exactly an excuse for in-game performance in my opinion if if you’re practicing but he is a freshman and Hickman Hickman’s got to start putting it together seeing a lot of talk on Twitter about Connor I believe in I believe in him I know a lot of people are just like totally turned off think he shouldn’t even be starting Etc I think we’re going to have the same starting lineup I think we should um unless Dan’s ready ready I mean the fact that Dan didn’t practice the day after the Howard game suggests to me that he’s not ready ready but those role players like every shootout Xavier role player hits like five threes just we could go down the roster right now just guess if you want um I have my candidate I was going to say yeah we could do that later but we can all just you know bet on that or something but every year Xavier’s got those role players that just hit three four five threes they didn’t do that before the game they didn’t do it after the game we can do that too like let’s go I want it to be Conor Hickman personally he’s uh he’s an old man this is his last year in college hoops he’s played a ton of ball he doesn’t look fully integrated like like Paige as well but I think he’s going to figure out and it would be cool if he figures it out before Big 12 Play if we were to go back a couple weeks my main topic here would be look at all the dudes we have and look at this Xavier team and how they’re probably not the best defensive team out there how are they possibly going to guard each individual Bearcat out there like if Seamus isn’t have good night it’s going to be Dan if it’s not seus or Dan it’s going to be jizzel with that being said the last three games has not have not given us a lot of Hope in the half court and also Xavier I just looked up 73rd and kenpom with their defensive rating so they’re not an awful defensive team we need to figure something out in the half court because that’s where Villanova killed us they slowed us down and we had no answer for that this is a team that obviously wants to get out and run and I think we can do that with the best of anybody and I think that’s why at the start of the year we thought we were top 10 and now I still think we’re a top 25 team for sure but that is a worry for me in terms of just getting a bucket in the half court if this is a if this is a track meet there’s no question I think what I said earlier with us winning by double digits happens for sure but also to Lily’s credit there is always a guy who goes nuclear in the shootout for the muskies for me this year I’m calling Dante Maddox and I say that because listen to these three-point stats five games ago before he actually just scored a couple the last two games he’s looked good the last two games but he came in to Xavier as a three-point shooter and he went 0 for two three for four 0 for two 0 for two 0 for five sounds like Hickman for the barats I’m worried that that guy’s going to kill us on Saturday and he shoots 40% for his career so so he’s due yeah it’s happening yeah well Hickman’s due too Hickman’s also doe holy hell like he needs to hit a shot man he’s he’s been missing the the damn Rim completely on a lot of these wide open jump shots so Hickman is due I’m hoping we we have a Hickman coming out party because yeah the chatter we were talking about it on Sunday you know people are like is this guy’s game doesn’t translate to the Big 12 he’s not uh you know he’s not good enough to play at this level I I think it’s there because defensively he’s there he’s just got to knock down some open shots it’s all we really need for Pikmin if he wants to be do a little playmaking sure we’ll take it but knock down some damn shots this is the biggest game of the year we got to figure it out hey does Xavier run any type of matchup Zone because I’ve only watched a couple of their games that’s what I’m worried about because our half court against a matchup zone is horrific we saw it against NKU we saw it against Villanova that’s where we struggle I’d be shocked if Shawn Miller hasn’t looked at the tape and go holy hell these guys can’t figure this thing out but you guys tell me do they have any type of wacky matchup Zone that they’ve run at all this year L you take that you know that I mean Villanova didn’t and then they did so yeah that’s true we might see like some random something basketball’s never seen before the one one1 did I miss one I’m not sure there but we we could see anything it’s they’ve only had they played Tuesday I’m sure they had a coach prepping for the shootout before Tuesday they’re they’re going to be ready and the big thing for me is transition defense Xavier is 98th percentile in transition frequency and 97th percentile in transition efficiency that’s that’s why they’re winning games if they get stops they are going like if you look at their Pace stats on kenpom they’re top 50 in like Tempo on offense and 300 something in defense they slow it down on defense and then the moment you miss a shot or turn it over boom they go and you know we’re a good transition team but we can’t so do I stand do I stand do I stand corrected that we want this to be a track meet Lily did did you just say fake news for me I mean I I thought that we were the better team I we got the athletes and I when I look at the xaver team I didn’t think they had the athletes I thought they had the talent in the back basketball players you’re you’re you’re making me think I was wrong for sure I think it’s kind of like a three guard thing like they just want to run it and and and also we gotta like they’re old like this is the second oldest team in the country their average like experience on this team is three and a half years they’re second in the country so they know what they’re doing when they get the ball go go go we can’t be turning it over and missing a bunch like we just can’t have those stretches like Villanova where it felt like we didn’t hit a shot for what five minutes if you if you start off the game like that on Saturday it’s it’s going to be very scary got to get the lead make your shots and kind of try to control the game a little because they want to shoot threes in transition and then they they also you know they’ll finish at The Rim too but they get to the line a lot too so that’s part of the transition they’re getting advantages and getting people to foul trouble so Paige aiz come on guys cut it out this is a big game do you think’s gonna be gard and uh Conwell I think that’s their best overall player he can sling it what is 6’4 that I’m just curious because we don’t have like a definitive matchup for Conwell at least the way our starting lineup goes I mean I don’t think we want to put laosi on him right I was about to say is it Conor it might be yeah is it Hickman like Hickman seems to be I mean maybe he’s the best bet as far as a starting lineup I don’t think we’re gonna put you know jizzel on him I’d figure he’s gonna guard uh Davon mcnight but I don’t know I mean that’s something what gonna have to figure out maybe we see more DayDay like maybe we see that jizzel DayDay thing a lot more on Saturday because Xavier is very guard heavy like we got to have guys out there that are guarding them I would like to see more jizzel and DayDay it seems to be working like last year you’re like hey those are two point guards why are we like why are we sending them out I think that works perfectly fine to your question though Hudson I wish I had an answer and the fact that I didn’t I don’t have a specific answer it it does worry me and that is a very good point you bring up because it is the freemantle and Conwell show they both get well three of them get 30 minutes a game and it’s freem manal Conwell and MCN all three of them get 30 minutes a game 29 or so for freem menal and mcnight but either way 16 points per game for free manal 16 points per game from Conwell Conwell shooting 45% from three this guy’s a stud the last thing we want to see is an olivari game from last year where this guy matches up well with us and goes off for 27 points do we have anyone to put on him because I mean he’s he’s he’s a big guard right like is it Seamus it’s got to be SE I got look how big Conwell is yeah well that was the the biggest loss last year was Newman because Newman was the guy if you had a you know a stretch guard like that that had some length Newman goes on him we don’t necessarily have that that guy that’s in that 62 to 6’4 range that’s just a lock down Defender we got DayDay Thomas and he could he could do a decent job but he’s well undersized so I mean I he’s probably gonna throw a bunch of different looks at him um seos might start on him just from a size perspective um we’ve seen him get absolutely cooked though on the defensive end a few different times so maybe it’s a group effort there’s not necessarily one guy because that’s something I think if we want to look at what this team is missing besides a back to theb scorer it might be that kind of uh two guard three guard Lockdown Defender that we had in Newman last year and we need to talk about like the Xavier rotation a little because they they’re not like us like we’re playing what like 11 guys right now Xavier’s playing eight and Trey Green is not playing on Saturday he’s John rosstein reported he’s out sounds like he’s out for the year probably gonna transfer but they had a cam Fletcher is a guy that was gonna red shirt he’s from Florida State transfer and he’s dealing with some health issues he was supposed to red shirt and they’re calling they’re calling in the reserves here he’s he’s played the last three games hit two threes versus Morgan State he’s like a wing small ball four kind of he’s like what 67 230 can make a three but he’s not great at it like so there’s my that’s my pick by the way Nick for uh the Rando three cam Fletcher he’s he’s gonna I don’t think he’s gonna play a bunch but he might play like eight minutes 10 minutes they play Old players and they play a lot together they’re not doing this stuff we do where you log on Twitter during a timeout and it’s like every tweets about what is this lineup man they don’t do that they they’ve got their best players in they have a short rotation and honestly that’s that might be my biggest concern for this game is Wes’s lineups vers Xavier lineups like are we going to P put out that that lineup with Reed Paige Hickman DayDay whatever it was are we gonna put that lineup out there against Xavier’s old guys like and what’s gonna happen like can we defend I don’t I’m not sure we can score but I would love to see like a slightly shortened rotation on Saturday just because the the lineup stuff caused us some games last year in my opinion and I know we’re better this year skillings is back so it it kind of naturally in my opinion will fix some of these problems uh but it’s something to monitor because they play a very short rotation they’re familiar with each other and and we like to kind of wear teams out go deep run them let’s see I I tweeted it a million times but you simply cannot have jizzel and Seamus on the bench together little different with Dan little I guess a little different with Dan is now Dan can I mean he’s a playmaker he can make a play out there with if those two are on the bench I still don’t want to see it because th those are our three Playmakers and they’ve had there’s been times literally this season which I I can’t think of a single good reason they’ve had not only camos and jizzel on the bench but Dylan Mitchell on the bench with without Dan skillings even playing so like those three guys that should never happen so that’s what makes me nervous about Wes is he seems to like be so stuck bur with his rotation and I don’t know if he’s trying to prove the the haters wrong or whatever well Wes it’s it hasn’t been working out that well I would love to see plus minuses with some of those lineups and let’s just we’re we’re I feel like we’re talking about Xavier right now like they’re the the Boston Celtics last year let’s call it spade a spade Xavier isn’t very good this year I mean they’re just flat out not based on what we’ve seen it’s early they got annihilated by Michigan beat South Carolina state by three uh lost a a very average TCU team all right they beat Morgan State by 250 points TCU sucks all right TCU Su like listen Xavier isn’t good okay that’s just a fact does that mean that we’re gonna win no it doesn’t we’ve seen history I’ve I’ve been in history classes for 20 years okay it tends to repeat itself so that’s why I’m nervous but overall we are the better team we have a better roster we have more athletes more Playmakers we have some actual skill guys now plus we have Dylan Mitchell who is going to be the best athlete on the floor which changes the dynamic of every game we play so I just want to make it clear we are confident in this game but there’s definitely some room for concern Chuck is spewing off the takes in the chat by the way and and it goes with what you just said Hudson he he said it’s not a big game if you take out the Rivalry they’re not good and it’s at home it’s a Ral you got to join this thing come on man I I look look here’s the thing I think I’m with haven’t so we haven’t actually been able to see what this team really is on paper we are much better we we just are talent-wise we’re just better we haven’t beaten anybody yet so we’re g to we’re going to find out really soon I believe that we’re the team that we thought we we are who we thought we were I want to make make that clear but we’ve yet to see it because I know they’re going to clip was gonna say like 75% yes no it’s 47% yes 53% no so we’re about it’s a mixed bag of I I bring this up because as a fan base we are divided right in terms of how a how we feel about this game and B how we’re gonna feel about West Miller if he loses this game how are you guys gonna feel I don’t even want to talk about this because I think we’re gonna win but if we lose are we starting to doubt West Miller will you go with this one I feel like you’re gonna have a real conservative take here yeah I won’t be but like it would suck like I I kind of addressed this in in a previous podcast but I mean I if we lose I’m just gonna I said I was going off the grid I’m going off the grid like you won’t I won’t be on the podcast next week I’ll be gone uh Hawking Hills we’re we’re heading we’re would be absolutely devastating to my mental health specifically but if we went on and you know played well for the rest of year got a four seed went to the Sweet 16 Elite eight something like that no I I I don’t give a [ __ ] I’m not I’m not on the tissit train where we win a National Championship but we lost to our rival so you know what fire the coach and do we want to do this song and dance again if we if we got rid of hypothetically got rid of West Miller we’d have to start from scratch again no I think we found kind of a gem in West Miller and we were talking about this on the you know in our group chat where it’s hilarious that like simultaneously we’re rooting for UNCC to be good because we don’t want West to take the UNCC job and then half the fan base is saying he’s on the hot seat at UC I’m like what what are we what are we doing here folks Wes is our guy I would be shocked if we don’t make the tournament then we can have this discussion I don’t think that’s ever gonna happen unless something drastically goes wrong I got a question for you Houdini if we lose to Xavier but make the tournament should we decline the invite yes yeah you’re right I guess you’re right we have to decline that say thanks but no thanks oh man as guys would do yeah uh my opinion on the matter is I felt awful even typing that because I am a West guy I have loved him from the second he has shootouts UC is 13 and 22 in those games we’ve actually outscored Xavier two points total in those games we’re 12 and eight in games decided by eight or more and Xavier is 14- one in games decided by seven or fewer they’ve won all four overtime games Xavier has and they’re 10 and0 in one possession games slash games that have gone to overtime and he goes on to say those numbers seem impossible they do they seem impos they they have our number I can’t believe it and it’s Xavier like it’s one thing if this is like Houston this is awful because it’s our rival so yeah Hudson statistic anomaly no I mean we gotta rattle off like six straight like we gotta we gotta write the ship here and start winning some games and you know Wes is bringing the guys in to do it and you know pump the brakes even if West does lose this he won’t um I I still think Wes is the guy and you know they even mentioned Chad I said this on Sunday both programs have not been good since they’re their prior coaches right steel nothing I think they got one tournament appearance last five years we have zero it’s not like Xavier’s been dominating outside of winning this game but it’d be really nice for us to actually win a damn rivalry game and we gotta win one at at the new Fifth Third Arena because I mean I would love to know what our record is at the new Fifth Third Arena it can’t be good I would love to not know that it’s on it’s on the shootout Wikipedia page I had it up earlier but before I pull that up because I’ll end with the record can we get some positivity though like let’s end the Z let’s end the cross down shootout talk with some positivity I’ll start I think we have the guys to win like I still despite the last three games where we haven’t looked great I still think we are top 15 to top 10 team I think this team is special I really do and I I think that Dan is that glue that holds this together and that in him really did hurt us in the Villanova game do I think that we win that game with him there hard to say right like Eric Dixon scored 31 Villanova kind of they kind of owned Us in terms of the tempo so that is tough but with that being said I still think we have a really damn good team and I do think we’re GNA win Saturday so some positivity from both of you before we finish this I do too like I said top to bottom I think we’re the better team um I think our best players are right there with their best players but we have more depth and more guys that can beat you in different ways um it’s going to come down to knocking down shots like you mentioned last year lacious those nice little kind of Elbo is threes where he’s running back seems to be his favorite shot let’s get those early and often and we need a decent game from a ease I I think he might he’s a 23 out of 255 offer from FCS and G5 programs so you know the talking points on Twitter right now or we’re recruiting these these guys coming from mid majors and all that but I I’ve gone through all of them almost every single one of them is multiple P4 offers we’re I think we’re targeting the right guys I trust the scouting Department way more than I trust saterfield um not that I’ve gone full fire sad like everybody else well most people but I think we’re reasonable on this podcast but if if we could get James Thompson in here from Roger Bacon get him next to cor Leon to the the Cincinnati D line and and get some wide receivers for for sorby I really think that the tone around this team could change a little and I know it won’t fully change because there’s some pessimists that are just going to stay how they are until they see onfield results which I don’t really blame them but there there’s a lot of we’re linked with some good guys and there’s a lot of little smoke positive smoke uh with wide receivers so let let’s see what happens Saturday’s a big day we’ve got tons of guys coming in for and and just think I’m I’m rambling a little let me go a little longer just think like these coaches are hosting recruits and you know how we feel we feel horrible season sucked last season sucked but These Guys these kids are coming in they see that practice facility it’s ready in a couple months they see a qb1 they see the energy around the building that’s not the same as the fans they’re they’re confident they’re they’re trying to get their guys um we’re retaining our core players the guys when I say core players I’m talking about guys who can recruit people like when corleon stays that sends a message when sorby stays that sends a message I know you see these UC fans saying like what he wasn’t even that good down the these portal guys don’t know that they walk in and see a qb1 they hear about them they see the there’s reason like there’s reasons to believe recruits are coming in and buying into the program more than our fans are so which matters because next year is the year where we find out if saterfield is goingon to stay here or not so I’m kind of excited it’s the it’s an exciting time but although it’s the portal I think I’m always going to be excited but retain your guys bring guys in and we’ve done that uh Hudson we you haven’t even been able to talk about football for a while were you you weren’t on the last was it just Chuck on the last game the last show or were were you on there as well been MIA since we had like 19 turnovers against West Virginia so yeah it has been a minute I mean it listen Lily it does say it does say something that some of our core guys are coming back like cor Leon coming back I was like what go to the league brother like what what are we doing you’re doing this again so he obviously has some optimism around not only the program but saterfield himself so this isn’t a lot of people are comparing the hire to like John Brandon like this is not the same s scario at all like the the kids seem to be they want to be there and you’re having some of our best players if Royer comes back Elder Elder Elder um I could I’ll feel relatively decent right but they need to have a big Hall in the portal outside of just retaining guys but they did step one so far but we got to bring some guys in the building that’s going to translate to wins because it looked real ugly real ugly towards the end of the season they seem to regress pretty significantly um but we did beat a IA State so ifo facto we’re a final four team uh yeah ex hey transitive property always works uh Lily sorsby had what excuse me gez sorsby had what the third or fourth best qbr in the Big 12 fourth and he didn’t look good down the stretch it’s call spade a spade with that being said was it him or was it the wide receivers because we’re seeing a little bit more smoke that it was it was more so the wide receivers than sorby get on the all 22 Lily I thought it was injury I don’t know that that was cope okay probably he was banged up and and I think he even said it himself in press as like it’s not an excuse for my performance like also it’s a good sign that your quarterback says that like just his presence and press conference is like this is our guy you know like that’s important the players feel that fans feel that but then six stinkers in a row it’s a little harder to sell but I think it’s safe to say like minus the crazy fans I think it’s safe to say that sorby’s like the guy and we know he’s very good good at worst the question is what is his upside and and that’s the thing we we didn’t see down the stretch is like are like Tyron Smith stopped playing whether it was injury or trying to get a red shirt to transfer we had a lot of small receivers like other than Henderson I’m not saying his first name um other than Henderson it felt like all of them were like 59 and I thought that was cool going into the season and it felt cool the first couple weeks but once teams figured out they could Blitz us like I think that UCF game was such a turning point cuz I know we won the game but ucf’s defense was [ __ ] before that game and they didn’t Blitz before that game and they were sent in the house and we did not respond well we won the game but it was ugly and after that game everyone blitzed us it was always ugly I think that was the turning point and sure he was banged up but guys we we could not get a guy open before sorby was getting get hit so hard for me to really blame sorby I know a lot of people think like he’s some sort of bust or something it’s like if you look at his numbers for the season I don’t know how you could say that like we got a QB you know how hard it is to get a QB there are Blue Bloods around there looking for QBs we retained ours it’s you people Cincinnati fans should be thrilled that sorby’s here like and he’s recruiting receivers like we’re going into the portal with aqb we are spending our time filling out the rest of the roster it is a big problem if you’re going to a portal looking for a QB and you have other problems we we’re just if you were a UC fan I saw like on the chatter box when they you know he agreed to new terms sorsby did and there was there was a ton of people like is that are we sure that’s a good idea are we are we sure listen say what you want about saterfield if sorsby was gone I mean we’re talking about a possible like two- win season straight up so whatever you want say about s be like yeah maybe two games so just be happy that we retained a guy that we saw what his ceiling can be and it is very very high I can’t tell you Lily has got to study more of the all 22 to tell you really what happened but we saw that he has the potential to be I mean I was sitting there going I mean Jesus this guy this guy might be the Heisman and after like week four I mean I really beli to the guy like I he was I mean he was throwing things on a thread to to guys all over the field um and something happened hopefully they can get that mojo back but that’s their best bet to be competitive next year and that’s without for Saturday’s cross town shootout game in Ed to 97 when we uh were taken on by by the Jordan brand they have elephant print going down the side if you don’t know what that is just Google Jordan Elephant Print I I don’t know how to describe it to you but it looks awesome I want to spend a couple minutes on this my first take on the whole matter is I love that they did this against Xavier because Xavier giv us all that crap for when we signed with BSN or whatever that was I put it in air quotes for people who are going to listen this audio only as a placeholder for when we eventually got Jordan bsn’s not giving us these jerseys like we are a legitimate program that’s getting custom jerseys from Jordan Houston does Houston get any they’ve been amazing do they have they gotten any of these jerseys I think it’s awesome that Jordan is willing to put in some of this stuff for us and hey I think they look awesome and Chuck Chuck just called you a nerd like Chuck we’re not wearing
