welcome back to another episode of rock boys football deal it’s finally here Michigan Ohio State I’ll say something that both Michigan and Ohio State fans can agree upon before the battle ensues for the next six to seven days this is the best rivalry in all college football it ain’t even close Michigan fans Ohio State fans they certainly know this and what makes this game so special deal Michigan six and5 on the year not the season Michigan fans wanted we have a great season if we win this football game Saturday afternoon obviously Ohio State playing for National Championship college football playoff implications fired up to get into this one I think Ohio State played their best football all year against Indiana and quite frankly Michigan did too against Northwestern so excited to get into this one now before we do and as always just want to say thank you to y’all and uh let it fly in the comment section uh this is what college football is all about so let it fly in the comment section if youall do enjoy the com cont consider subscribing to the channel D I’m GNA take this a counterintuitive approach here the most intriguing match up in this football game is this Ohio State offense versus this Michigan defense specifically this Michigan defensive line going up against an Ohio State offensive line that has dealt with a laundry list of injuries we’re gonna get to that if this game is competitive though I think it starts on the other side of the football you know can this Michigan offense just stay on the field and not create turnovers and kind of give this Michigan team a chance to win this football game that’s where it starts we saw the best offensive performance we’ve seen from Michigan all year against Northwestern when you look at this Michigan offense going up against an Ohio State Defense that I remind you is 10.7 points per game allowed that’s the number one scoring defense in the country only allowing 3.9 yards per play that’s number two in the country largely the best defense that we see in the country right now what can can do to potentially give Ohio State on defense some problems in this football game and that’s the tough part because at the end of the day you’ve kind of seen one weakness in this Ohio State Defense and that’s their ability to guard the boundary at times and it hasn’t been a consistent problem when they’ve played really tough big physical wide receivers or wide receivers can get over the top they’ve had some issues Oregon even Nebraska to an extent gave him some problems Ohio state was taking some penalties took some penalties against Indiana you just look though Michigan hasn’t shown they have the wide receivers to challenge that type of boundary corner like can you make can you put some pressure on a davis nibos in force them into some penalties that would feel like the one thing teams can maybe go after with Ohio State it’s just Michigan like where on the boundary are you gonna go that’s what the and Michigan’s going to need to you’ve seen this Michigan passing attack really rely on yards after the catch in the quick game like that’s where Davis Warren is at his best you know getting the football out quick and letting his Playmakers make plays with the football in their hands that that’s a hard Avenue to work against Ohio State you know you got guys like Caleb Don just the the size and speed combination with those Ohio State Defense it’s it’s really hard and especially with those linebackers coming on I mean Sunny Styles is starting to play some really good football like you see him getting out getting to his spots and pass coverage quickly I thought he played his best game against Indiana tackling guys in screens covering the flat really effectively like that was maybe something early that they had some issues with but that linebacker Cruz picked it up Caleb D has been nails and when they want to get the ball out that’s where their that’s where their cornerbacks Thrive I mean their ability to get physical get their hands on wide receivers around the line of scrimmage that’s where they’re really really good so you’re GNA need to see some tendency Breakers from Michigan like that’s how Michigan run their offense largely like a lot of Swing passes a lot of quick game I think you’re gonna have to push the ball down the field if you want to hang around in this football game and dly you kind of Set It Best it’s not necessar completing every single pass you push the ball down the field Davis nios has been extremely handsy and one of the storylines going into every single Ohio State game we’ve seen this year what are the refs going to do are they going to let them play on the boundary are they going to be kind of ticky tacky if the refs are ticky tacky in this football game you’re kind of just throwing it up and seeing if one your players can go make plays which we haven’t seen a ton of or can you draw a couple pass interferences give yourself a few first downs that’s kind of the storyline here can Michigan that hasn’t really shown the ability to push the ball down the field at all this year can they do it against Ohio State I think they’re going to need to if they want a chance to win this football game especially because you can’t just go bully that Ohio State defensive line you talk about like their pass rush I think at moments hasn’t been as good as you’d want I thought their ability to dial up some pressure from the back end was really really effective obviously against IND their front four though against the Ron is about as tough as you come I mean you thought think about those two defensive tackles Hamilton and Williams those two are monsters there Jack Sawyer really tough against the run so obviously Michigan wants to be able to run the ball effectively yesterday was the first time we’ve seen their offensive line I think play high level football that is talking about Michigan but it hasn’t been consistent and that that Northwestern front is just nothing like yeah it’s from a Michigan fans perspective here it’s it’s hard to see Michigan going on the road in just running the football all over Ohio State which has been extremely good against the run so then the question is all right what do you do in the rushing attack I think you’re going to have to have a lot of pre-and motion it’s it’s going to need to be a creative rushing attack I don’t think you can just line it up run some base power and move the football against Ohio State pre- SNAP motion some Jet Sweep type stuff that’s I mean and you talk about avenues for Success this kind of similar to Michigan’s defense this Ohio State defense is really aggressive can you get their eyes in the back field give them some eye candy and getting to get them take some false steps you’re going to need to do that now do I have a ton of confidence that Campbell is going to get creative and dial it up no I don’t but he’s going to need to I think if they want to have some success running the football because if Coulson leveland isn’t playing in this game that’s your one matchup who again a guy who when he can get to his spots he can be a problem now Shon Moore kind of gave that he’s working through some things so we’ll certainly see but if they don’t have him then you don’t have your one guy who has been able to just create something on his own that’s where the creativity really kind of gets involved because you you need to find something if Coulson love isn’t there to be the last thing I have is is some trick plays you know like I know it’s not ideal for Michigan fans to be having this conversation right now but you talk about potentially moving the football you’re going to have to have a few plays that you you save for these kind of games you know Ohio state has some plays they’ve saved Michigan I’m sure has some plays they’ve saved that you need to hit with those plays in order to give yourself a chance on the offensive side of the ball D switching sides again the the biggest storyline for this match of Ohio State’s offensive line handle this Michigan defensive line look Michigan has not been a great football team in 2024 this defensive line is legit it’s specifically legit on the inside you lose your All-American caliber Center in Ohio State and Seth mcclin specifically on the inside of this defensive line and quite frankly at the tackle position off the edge as well can you take over this football game with your front four that’s that’s kind of the biggest storyline for Michigan on defense because Indiana really wasn’t able to be I think as successful as a lot of people maybe would have thought I actually thought Ohio State in terms of like how active and I think that’s how Indiana essentially puts their pressure on teams is stunting slanting like those type of things I thought Ohio State’s communication up front was really solid I thought they did a good pretty good job in the Run game gave up a little a couple plays in the past but on the on large I think Ohio State’s done a good job of being able to move the pocket work off a play action and do some things to slow that like Ultra aggressive pass thres down so again you’re just gonna need to have like Mason Graham Kenny Grant Josiah Stewart like those guys they’re just gonna need to win and they’re gonna need to win really consistently because Ohio state they’re not playing sloppy up front I think that’s one thing I I’m kind of kind trying to get at is they’re just like yeah you can maybe physically beat them once in a while but they’re not like just breaking down up front yeah and give them credit because they’ve shuffled the deck in a massive way on the offensive line and in that continuity’s been pretty Sol you gave up zero sacks three tackles for loss against Indiana front seven that has been sacking the quarterback and creating a lot of negative plays if you’re Ohio State yeah you love to have dominated that football game the biggest storyline is that offensive line did not look like a problem and if it’s not a problem this Ohio State team is one of the best teams in the country I think the biggest question mark for Ohio State going into this game going into the college football playoffs are we a liability on the offensive line I thought they were anything but that Saturday against Indiana um you Ryan day last thing we’ll kind of say that W will Johnson is he healthy for this game because we all know what Ohio state has out on the boundary you ideally want the best quarterback in the country playing in this football game we’ll kind of see how that plays out if you’re Ryan day you got to figure out quick how that match Up’s going you know what I mean and if if it’s say hey we’re we’re struggling to block these guys on the defensive line you got to start moving the pocket you got to start maybe getting to the perimeter got to start getting that quick game going and that’s that’s where will Howard’s athleticism has helped them so much compared to last year because if you look Penn State was certainly getting after Ohio State I don’t think that was going to be a great game for Ohio kind of sit in the pocket and try to shred that Penn State team but will Howard’s ability to throw on the run and work off a play action and also chips designs are some of those things where the ball is coming out a little quicker than we’ve seen at Ohio State in the past where it was much more predicated on getting the ball down field really consistently I think their ability to work in some of those stuff even some screens I thought they did a good job hitting some against Indiana tough Block in the back honestly I thought like those type of plays that Ohio State can get to that Michigan has struggled a ton with that misdirection stuff again Michigan playing very aggressive on defense we’ve certainly seen them get out of position can Ohio State hit a couple of those plays which again they’ve been able to do more effectively than I think they did that’s that’s kind of what I’m thinking Ohio State’s going to go to and kind of largely what they’ve gone to all year you said it best we’re used to seeing this Ohio State offense really work push the ball down the field vertically they can do that we’ve seen them do that with guys like Jeremiah Smith but this offense largely has been a yards after the catch offense you got a bunch of dudes that are good pass catches but they’re good athletes with the football in their hands and that is something that Dill you talk about the biggest drop off for Michigan on defense from 2023 to 2024 it’s by far tackling in space me this Michigan defense in 2023 that I haven’t seen many college football teams tackle better in space specifically in the secondary than what Michigan did in 2023 in 2024 it’s been a little bit of a problem you know guys like mcari page have missed a lot of tackles on the year if you’re Ohio State you’re trying to get those yards after the catch Jeremiah Smith as freaky as he is going up and playing the football is also extremely hard to bring down and so Michigan you’re gonna have to tackle in space because you think Ohio state is probably GNA go to the quick game and try to get the ball to the perimeter D getting to the pick I spread almost three scores here who you got in this football game here I mean I’m not gonna pick Michigan to win this game I I mean everything in my blood wants to obviously but it’s just really hard to see Michigan’s offense generating what they’re going to need to generate again picking it against the spread I’m gonna go Michigan I have baby hey rivalry games they keep it close normally that’s what I’m gonna be telling myself is he spooky things can happen on rivalry weekend we’ve seen that that’s what I’m gonna be telling myself the next six days but it’s hard to go against Ohio State I think there are some some matchups and what you saw from Ohio State on the offensive line like that that’s kind of what I was hoping like in the back of my mind watching that Ohio State Indiana game I was like I’m hoping Indiana can do some things on that defensive line that shows me that this Ohio State offensive line might be a big problem uh now again manto man Indiana doesn’t really stack up I don’t think with Michigan not even close Indiana’s got some decent players for sure and I think they run an aggressive hard to deal with scheme at times but just like they don’t have a Kenny gr or a Mason Graham or jiah Stewart like all three of those would be Far and Away the best players that Indiana D line so I think Michigan can give them some problems but again when you play offense the way Michigan plays offense you got an Ohio defense that doesn’t have a ton of issues aside from maybe covering deep passes it’s and that’s kind of the storyline is like I think this Michigan offense or defense can hold their own against this Buckey’s offense it’s like if you give Ryan day and all those weapons enough drives and if Michigan can’t stay on the field on offense like they’re it’s they’re going to break through they’re going to dial some things up and that’s kind like the the story for this Michigan defense is like they hold their own for a while and then like the damn just breaks because you just play opposite in offense that can’t stay on the field in it like as much as people want to talk about the Ohio State offense which is very good this Ohio State Defense is arguably the best unit in the country it’s
