tidbits of news here coming out surrounding the Toronto map beliefs and of course trade rumors they won a big game yesterday I’ll be against the Chicago Blackhawks they have a very busy week and trade talks are continuing to pick up we haven’t um discussed this particular Target and it’s very interesting one so let’s start right here we also have a couple Leafs updates as well which we get into but Jake Evans is a player that we’re going to be talking about today you see this here Jake Evans from the Canadians is a player seen as attractive for team teams looking to bolster their bottom six due to his low cap hit and playoff experience at a young age the Leafs LA and a few others could play to upgrade the bottom half of their forward group and would definitely be interested due to his low cap hit alone so the Leafs link to Jake Evans here and we’ll dive into the player and discuss things like that but it’s interesting because we talk about players that the Leafs need I don’t think there’s too many upgrades they need to make they have a ton of depth however you know a bottom six player is exactly what the Leafs need they specifically need a third line Center so I’m curious to see what you think about uh Al be at a rival in rival team and Montreal Canadians but Jake Evans potentially being a play here for the Toronto Maple Leafs and I also don’t suspect he would cost a ton so I think it makes sense here for the tonal map Lees to at least be monitoring the situation besides him being a Montreal Canadian this would be a really good fit for the Toronto map Leafs in their lineup and I think Brad TR living notoriously does not like to build his teams at the trade deadline this is a guy who likes to build his teams in the off season and then have them kind of gel together throughout the rest of the season see where there’s any holes and then upgrade with a maybe very cost effective option he never or rarely goes after a big fish he was trying to last year but Calgary did not want to trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs so obviously he was trying to upgrade there last year but he never really goes after the big fish and I think that that’s going to be the case again this year because when you look up and down the Leaf’s lineup goal tending not an issue defense obviously when they’re not injured not an issue so far this season the forward group isn’t really an issue but they have a couple holes and one of them is definitely the third line Center position I think that they’re definitely go out and trade for a third line Center this season whether it be soon or right before the trade deadline or at the trade deadline I feel like if they get it done sooner rather than later they might be spending a little bit less but yes again besides it being the Montreal Canadians I think this is a great player I think this would be a great fit for the Toronto Maple lefs I have to give a shout out to Josh gos on Habs digest that told me a little bit about uh Jake Evans and said you know he’s a pretty defensive minded player you’re not going to much of him out of uh obviously on the offensive end of things or in the offensive zone but he’s responsible defensively he’s pretty good at faceoffs not so good this year on the faceoff dot but he’s pretty good at faceoffs again he’s a right shot which I think is attractive for the Leafs because they have a lot of left shots on the forward group but uh I think this could be a really good option again he’s another guy who can play on the penalty kill they could use another guy who’s just kind of there for defensive Zone Faceoff just in case in the playoffs he plays physical we’ve seen it before he’s been to a Stanley Cup finals so I think it would be a very good option but again trading in division that is pretty tough for me yeah and looking at the available third line centers there’s a few obviously going around we’ve discussed Nick buad a lot of bad sorry a lot of different guys there like that but Jake Evans is one that uh is intriguing Evans is an affordable Center teams will pursue and I bring up the screenshot because I think the key part of this is that he will be affordable and maybe you know depending how much the Leafs are willing to spend Brading doesn’t notoriously spend a lot in the midseason like you mentioned they were going for Nikita zor last season from the Flames are also going for Chris tanv before the Dallas Stars acquired him for the Flames as well so it uh obviously you know the Flames didn’t want to Craig Conroy and then didn’t want to make a deal with Brad CH living however the interesting thing is that um when you’re looking at an affordable piece now the Leafs have some assets they can use to make a trade as long they’re not I don’t think they’re going to give up their first- round pick this year I don’t think it’s going to be anything like that however they might you know last season we saw the six round pick go away and for teams looking to stabilize their bottom six Evans going to be a prime target not sure if they had any discussions on an extension but teams like Toronto La other clubs Evans is going to be right there and we’ll see how the Canadians maneuver that because they know how valuable of a piece it can be and that cap hit alone is attractive and that’s a big thing with this signing would be the cap hit and he’s only 28 years old so obviously he’s a UFA um in 2025 so after this year he’s on the last year of his deal but if you’re the Leafs and you end up having a good run with him there could also be a world where they extend this guy we’ve seen it happened before with players they’ve acquired we’ve also seen players they acquire at the deadline walk so it kind of works both ways here but regarding the player that he is 11 points 22 games as a third line Center only 28 years old it’s not like he’s some he’s not in the older side he’s not on the wrong side of 30 or anything like that he’s uh he’s in his prime right now and he’s on a and keep in mind these stats are on a very bad monal Canadians team that have minimal offensive weapons they barely get any shots on goal per game so I think this would uh this would be a pretty good fit for the Leafs and if they can get him for an affordable price and I’ll ask you in a minute what you think that price is something of a middling pick and maybe a Nick Robertson type swap or something like that because again they’re both on expiring deals and maybe if the the Leafs want to take or the Habs want to take a flyer on a guy like you know Nick Robertson could make some sense and the Leaf’s obviously taking a flyer on a guy like Jake Evans who I’ll be at this point is definitely more proven this season and in general than Nick Robertson I think the Leafs will probably have to add a sweetener in there but if the Habs are getting back a young forward as well as a a pick I think it can make sense for for Habs for the Habs sorry he’s still relatively young he’s only 28 years old he’s having you know a pretty good season on a bad Habs team like you said he’s also playing second line Center for them now so he’s taking on a bigger role he’s playing a ton and in different situations so if he were to come over to the Leafs I think he could be more effective because he’d play less and he would have uh you know uh more attention to detail in the ice time that he did get and obviously on the PK although the leap of PK has been pretty good but again if you add another option there I think that’s a good thing but again reluctant to trade with the Montreal Canadians I think it could be interesting Nick Robertson to me is probably too high valued for Jake Evans at this point honestly I do believe that still I think you could get a little bit more for Nick Robertson Than Jake Evans in terms of draft pick so but I think that Brad Shan could do something here a little tidy where he goes out and gets Jake Evans then he moves off of Nick Robertson in a different trade get some assets back for him and it’s like you didn’t miss anything at all right so I think he could do some tidy work here and uh Jake Evans could help the team I I don’t know if trading with Montreal is a is a great idea again in division it could come back to bite you of course but he’s a guy who could help the leaf absolutely I think that uh he could be the missing piece I also like bu’s that as well if we’re you know talking about different options as well so that could be interesting but to make this work a guy like Nick Robertson could be on the way out he hasn’t really performed so far this season so he definitely could be on his way out just on that that alone but uh it’s going to be very interesting as we head into the new year because I think that the Leafs are they’re kicking tires on a lot right now I think they’re trying to see what’s out there and again this is an affordable piece they can absolutely make room to uh bring this guy in and you can always resign him because he’s not a top end guy he’s not a Ryan O’Reilly who’s going to leave for example I know there’s a lot of different reasons that he left but he’s not going to leave for you know upwards of four5 million he’s probably going to sign for something affordable again uh with you know either you or another team but uh you could see it as a rental it could possibly be that but you can also resign him I think pretty easily so it’s an interesting option yeah and again whether you you know Nick Robertson’s value right now is at an all-time low but they’re still probably going to end up trading him he in pretty rough this season so it would getting some more stability even though they play different you know positions but from regarding that third and fourth line could be interesting a couple other things before I wrap up Ryan Reeves is back ahead of tomorrow night’s game he’s back in a white jersey Max doy and Max pachetti will participate wearing gray extra jerseys and Alex neander is also in his gray extra Jersey so I want to your thoughts on this Darius it seems like Alex neander May I’m not going to say the experiment is over or anything like that but he’s been probably the worst player in the ice for the past two to three games and again he’s not going to provide much defensively so if he’s not scoring goals similar to Nick Robertson in that way they’re not providing much out there and I think now that everybody’s starting to get healthy it’s going to be interesting to see what they do with Alex nander because the way Fraser minton’s been playing they’ll probably still send him down to the AHL but even Nikita greenin they have other guys who are outperforming them at this point so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with with Alex neander I think a guy like Rankin could stick around over Alex neander because he can play on the fourth line Alex neander skill set does not lend to the bottom half of a lineup to the bottom six so he has to play in a top six role for him to be effective for him to score he has to play on the power play as guys get healthy he’s not going to get that opportunity it’s not going to work on the Leafs that’s why they signed him to an AHL deal at first because maybe you know he could work his way up as he did he earned that he’s been playing great with the Marley and you know there was flashes so far in the last couple games but as guys start to get healthy I don’t see him being long for this team I don’t think he’s going to stick around or anything like that it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with waivers I was speculating earlier that I wonder if they put something in the contract where he just wouldn’t report to another team if they you know claimed him off waivers so maybe he ends up going back down to the Marley’s but I think he’s a guy who would flourish in a top six role on maybe a worst team around the league maybe a Pittsburg Columbus something like that we saw it last year in Columbus so uh you know his skill set does not lend to the bottom six I could see a guy like Mitten who whose skill set does maybe sticking around a little bit longer I do think that the you know the end game is for him to go back to the Marley and continue to develop but gerbin the way he plays he can play in a bottom six role so I wonder if he sticks around a little bit longer but Ryan ree will get back into the lineup he’s going been gone for quite a while at this point as the game’s stretched over a couple weeks so um I expect him to be back in the lineup but I wonder who uh gets sent down at this point yeah it’s going be interesting we’ll keep you up to date with the uh the moves and the corresponding moves that happen in order to make all these returns possible so make sure to hit the Subscribe button regarding that thank you again rentals.ca for sponsoring this one we’ll see you guys tomorrow
