it is Black Friday and many Oiler fans are hoping the Oilers can get a deal done but it may have to wait according to Jeff mer because he has a huge report regarding a potential early season Oilers trade but first if you haven’t subscribed to the Channel Make sure you do so as we are on the road to 2500 subscribers and we are very close to 2300 now folks uh without further Ado we will get right into the Jeff mer report but if you haven’t subscribed already make sure you do so but friends in Buffalo places yes Jeff Merck was on the Oilers Nation everyday show uh yesterday regarding a potential Oilers trade this is what he had to say he said teams are willing to make a deal but only if they get more value than they’re worth at the time Edmonton can make a deal for a defenseman right now but the team that’s selling will want more in return than what the acquiring team would want because essentially what they want to do is create a marketplace around the trade deadlines many years this has happened where teams will set a price around the trade deadline and you know when it comes to the trade deadline that price is out the window uh the closer they get to the trade deadline uh he said I think right now all things being equal unless there’s a total collapse uh there by the Edmonton oers they’re not going to make their moves until the deadline and indeed NHL teams are usually hesitant to make a big splash well before the trade deadline because prices for players typically go down closer to the day and the Divide between the contenders and Pretenders is firmly established all things have not started off swimmingly for the Oilers of the Season relative to the expectations placed on the team at the beginning uh you know cup or bust part two they are squarely in the hunt for the playoffs and only set Four Points behind the other uh team in alerted the Calgary Flames for second in the Pacific Division unless things go completely off the rails for Edmonton in that sweet spot that mer highlighted the team is likely not going to make the move for that defenseman for a while but Merck noted there was a team in the Eastern Conference that the ERS did make a trade with earlier in the Sumer the Matt seavo for Ryan McLoud trade yes the Buffalo Sabres he hints there could be something between the Oilers and Sabers later on down the road if Buffalo um has their annual collapse each year where they look strong in the in the start of the season and then they remember they’re the Buffalo Sabers and then things again go off the rails this is what he had to say regarding the Buffalo Sabers he said everything is on the line in that organization it’s not exactly a secret the players feel that the players know it behind closed doors the players talk about it everyone knows what is at stake with the buffalo Sabers Dylan cousins is at a really rough season Jack Quinn is at a rough start as well you guys were mentioning bow and Byam and he may just end up killing them in arbitration if he’s still with the Sabers and it gets there the name Owen power has been whisper whispered out there as well now uh three names there I think are Untouchable by the Buffalo Sabers by uh Quinn and Owen power of course you know the Oilers do not have enough assets for either you know one of those three but Dylan cousins intrigues me uh again had a very rough start to the season only eight points in in 22 games for the Buffalo Sabres there had a very rough uh first two years to his career there but he sort of uh you know rounded out his game 31 goals two years ago with the Buffalo Sabers and he mentioned uh the year before the 20222 season around the NHL Allstar break he said he was you know focusing on the defensive side of his game when the offensive side just wasn’t there so Dylan cousins could be uh you know a fit for the Edmonton nors of course the work of course from White Horse from the Yukon Territory of course D cousins did play his Junior Hockey in Alberta so a little bit of history there between cousins in the province now of course the Oilers uh they have not a lot of trade chips they do have some can of course I don’t think they trade matoy back to the Buffalo Sabres but a guy like Sam O’Reilly could be uh mentioned in trade talks for the oils but again uh the price for players will go down closer to the trade deadline uh Merck also added that the team is likely waiting see how the team does around January which is typically when they start to find their group and get rolling of course I had that graph the other day of Stuart Skinner’s career stats by month in January was a one heavy stronger month and of course the the stronger steart Skinner plays the better the Edmonton Oilers are and after all last season saw them start to drastically improve right around New Year’s which coincided with their 16 game win streak and St Skinner playing like one of the best goalies in the world and the Oilers are 112 and one this season when they allow three goals or less and coupled with with their strong commitment to defending and special teams improvements over recent games they’re hoping this road trip after a long break will be when things finally start to click and of course you know Oiler fans they are divided on when it comes to you know making a panic trade of course you know some uh some fans are you know yelling at the management to go get a goalie While others are yelling at management to go get a defenseman I’ve heard people you know want a bottom 64 they want a right winger when they’ve you know got out went out and got multiple Wingers throughout the season you have Jeff Skinner play Jeff Skinner but uh for the Oilers making a trade at this point as much as I’d like to see them you know do something at this point um they would get dramatically fleeced because every other team in the league knows what the Oilers need and Stan Bowman at this point of the Year we’re not even in December yet folks there is no need to make a trade you know maybe around yeah again closer to the trade deadline see what there is to uh trade for of course at the beginning of the year that is what the plan was for the Oilers to not exactly not do a panic move this early in the year in wait until uh the middle of March there for the March 7th I do believe uh the trade deadline that’s when the trade deadline is but uh stand stand P Oiler fans your patience will pay off and your patience did pay off when it comes to the five day break the Oilers had from Sunday to today yes they are finally playing again ladies and gentlemen when they go on their Western Road swing ton tonight they are in Salt Lake City Utah for their first ever meeting against the Utah Hockey Club yes they play a back toback uh tonight and tomorrow playing Utah tonight in the Colorado Avalanche on Hockey Night in Canada tomorrow night but first of course folks we we still have this game to play against the Utah Hockey Club you know a bit of a weird name but fantastic jerseys might I add the Oilers lineup coming from the team today Newen Hopkins McDavid and Casper kaan pod coulsen D Sidle and Conor Brown and then the bottom is rounded out with Jeff Skinner Adam Henrik and matis yamar and Drake Jula called back up from The Bakers field Condors after theer sent him down last week centered by drik Ryan and finally Cory Perry and on the defensive side of things M and Evan buard darn allur and BR hulak and Ty emberson in Troy steter and it says here pick um uh SK steart Skinner uh pardon me is listed here first but Calvin Pickard gets the start tonight against the Utah Hockey Club you can see there no AR or Heyman but Heyman did join the team on the road trip but arvidson has yet to rejoin the team it’s something that head coach Chris noblock said they’re not trying to rush arvon back I mean uh the better he comes back the the better but you uh you need him to get fully healthy and noblock was quoted about Zack Heyman he said he’s been going through the steps he’s feeling much better and there’s a chance that he’s playing this road trip sometime you know that the goals are going to come and when you’re taking that out of your lineup it’s much more difficult and you look at him playing first line right wing power play usually 19 to 20 minutes a night it leaves a hole when you can’t play but we do have other guys that we feel confident in who uh they’re they feel confident in who can step up not replace them but step up and help out a little bit more of course you know big games coming from caspy C against the New York Rangers on Saturday night and Leandro asler was asked about the break the five-day break of course this wasn’t an official Oilers bye but it was just a week without Oilers hockey which sounds horrific to some myself included in Leandra he had this to say he said I would have rather kept playing but it’s nice to rejuvenate a little bit get away from hockey and just get to relax I’m excited to get going again though we’re going to find position not exactly where we want to be but we’re certainly in Striking Distance of where we want to be it’s just a matter of stringing them together a little bit and finding a couple of win streaks that last a little longer than two games that’s her plan and what we’re looking to do and of course the the Oilers are not in a bad spot at all of course you know the litmus test in recent years has been if you’re out of the playoff race at Thanksgiving American Thanksgiving U mind you Canada’s obviously is in October and that would be quite Quite a feat but the Oilers only one point out of the Wild Card race and they’re only four points out of second in the Pacific and only seven out of first in the Pacific win with a game in hand against the Vegas golden knights who they will meet on Tuesday night but just looking ahead to the opponent tonight the Utah Hockey Club of course the renamed relocated Phoenix Coyotes or Arizona Coyotes mind you with Clayton Keller Barrett Hayton and Nick Schmaltz Jack McBain Logan kolie Dylan Gunther matis melli Nick buad former oer Nick buad and Lawson Krauss and then lastly here Alex kerfoot Kevin stenland and Michael sarone and on the defensive side of things Mel Zev o mat Ian Cole yo valami Michael Keling again another former Oiler who the Oilers let uh go too uh too easily there he’s doing absolutely fine in Utah in Robert borzo in between the pipes tonight for the Utah Hockey Club is number 70 Carol Vela who’s putting up uh amazing numbers for the Utah Hockey Club this year with a 2.25 goals against Savage in a 922 save percentage but the hockey club they are not they are not helping out Vela at all there with 11 games played for Carol and only three wins but uh you know wins are a team stat but when it comes to Vela he is one of the top goenda above expected you can see there uh second head of you know tremendous goalies like Conor huk Philip Guston yuc Saros Joey dard who’s had a tremendous start to his season so the Oilers will have their hands full tonight with Vela as they have had with other Stellar goalies so far this year but uh on on the flip side of things Utah ranks 26th in the league with 60 goals scored an average of just 2.7 goals per game so they’re getting the goal ining but they’re just not getting the scoring which leads to their their downfall they had a three-game win streak to open up the year but now they are sitting 13th in the Western Conference Edmonton native in former Edmonton oing Dylan Gunther is leading the way with 10 goals in his line Jack McMain and Logan KY have scored eight and four but the Top Line faltering for the hockey club with Clayton Keller Barrett Hayden and Nick malts only combining for 11 goals through 22 games but it should be a good one tonight you can see there Edmonton in Utah when it comes to money Puck five on five uh shot attempts percentage Cory percentage Edmonton with a solid 55.4 1% in Utah with 54.2 so both teams getting the puck on net but you can see their goals for Utah 41 and then Edmonton with 43 you can see they’re the top Carolina 55 goals for I mean they are having a stellar year but it should be a good one for the Oilers tonight I mean uh the whole week they should have just been focusing on watching that Rangers game tape over and over and over again and just sticking to that game plan because folks it worked on Saturday night and I have no reason to believe it wouldn’t work tonight if they tried that again but that’s it for today’s video we will get you a recap of Tomorrow of tonight’s game tomorrow and a preview against the Avalanche tomorrow so jam-packed video tomorrow on your way but that’s it for today’s video let me know down in the comments what you think about the whole Buffalo trade rumors and are you excited for tonight’s game let me know your thoughts down in the comments and make sure you subscribe folks have yourselves a fantastic afternoon and we’ll see you tomorrow let’s go Oilers
