you hear it all the time through baseball the larger market teams have the bigger Advantage because they make more money and they’re able to sign the bigname players and while that is obviously true it’s really hard to argue if you make more money you can spend more money there are teams like Oakland where back in 2005 John fiser bought that franchise for $180 million and going back to 2001 here you could see the revenue that they were making per year for example in 2011 they brought in well over $50 million in Revenue they spent about $76 million on their players 2019 they made over $220 million in Revenue while having a payroll under $100 million or highest paid player that year was Chris Davis and this is a trend that we saw year after year after year 2022 bringing in over $200 million with a payroll of 48 million and by 2024 they’re moving their team and they did make a payroll just under 250 million while spending 62 and now that they’re moving to Sacramento the first move they decide to make is spending $67 million over 3 years on Louis srino why is that significant because throughout their history that is the largest guaranteed contract they have ever given out even surpassing their legendary Eric Chavez who in six years made 66 million and yes Luis srino did have a solid 2024 season but he still still pitched to an RA just below 4 and is now the largest paid player in athletics history [Music]
