going to sign wodo so the Mets are out um no there was some actual Wan SoDo news and updates that we can walk you through the week as we’re sifting through this and it looks like we’re getting close to a Finish Line um you know a a lot of people are optimistic it’s happening before winter meetings in my head uh it feels like they’ve laid out a timeline for winter meetings uh so we’ll walk through that and then Max freed 90minut Zoom Corbin Burns there was some rumors there but it’s it’s kind of listed as like a backup plan which was Jimmy’s alternate sto plan was kind of go get Corbin Burns and make your rotation that way um and some other rumors around the league and how they affect the Yankees uh Tommy Canley wants to come back so mutual interest okay let’s bang some change UPS um let’s do some Juan stto uh because over the last two weeks now on this sheet BBD it looks like hey the Red Sox stuff MH which Yankee fans haven’t fully I’ll be honest uh Jo McFly Dan RoR Jimmy BBD Max Manis we got a lot of Yankee fans in this office no one’s taking the Red Sox rumor seriously and that’s either going to bite Us in the butt and we’ll be as sad as we were during game five but it just feels like I don’t know if there’s a free agent that’s looking like he’s going to be with the New York Yankees you would start rumors about the Boston Red Sox yes all giving like the most credit I can and this is me continuing to not take it all that seriously so that that’s a built-in caveat but like I I have it as in my head 90% one of the New York teams 10% other and the Red Sox are like nine of that 10% so last Tu that’s the nicest I can be to them right now John Haymon Red Sox are increasingly seemingly like a legitimate Contender for stto sure John Heyman the next day the Yankees up there initi offer for stto great Thursday Jeff passon shot down a Twitter rumor that’s right the Thanksgiving Boston Tea Party of Juan stto blank on the guy’s name he’s a guy that in in Boston Twitter world had broken some things before in other sports so he was saying that it was signed agreed to done on Thanksgiving turned out it was not uh Jeff passon shot that down on Friday and this is the true sign of where we are in the baseball off season Celsius the energy drink uh they replied to the WAN stto Celsius ad by saying hearing there’s a momentum shift to the Bronx okay so let’s pause there for a second if you’re someone that just likes watching the Yankees play baseball and you’re like what are we currently talking about know that we’re with you in spirit but this is where we’re at and if the amount of games is going to be either a positive or A negative I I’m not sure yet I’m picking Hook Line I’ve got forgotten rotten I think Trevor plof is pissed and embarrassed in the batter box uh so that was pretty wild to see uh and Randy Miller doesn’t have the best history with some of these reports I think the other thing you know at certain times in life you just have to start using logic welcome to life advice myself in BBD like what do you let’s say that was in some version of true that the Yankees were like yeah 550 million whatever if Juan stto said hey 575 million or I’m going to the Mets or I’m going to the Red Sox you don’t think the Yankees would add another 25 million to keep Juan stto like that’s just when we’re in that range that that’s malar that’s nothing be being it is nothing as generous to that because if it was a true our final offer is 550 that’s Yanke is not being competitive and trying to resign him being as kind to that rumor as I can be that’s like Yankee’s final offer was 550 and they said like and come back with whatever numbers you get and we’ll talk right it’s like they literally their last offer is going to be that but just negotiating stuff so minutia Sunday quiet no rumor that’s good Monday Andy Martino said the widespread belief is the Toronto Blue Jays will make the highest offer okay um and I will say this uh the Toronto Blue Jays people aren’t sure what they are going to do with the Toronto Blue Jays uh vlat is on the last year of his deal it seems like they very much want to sign him uh bo bashet is coming up on his last year as a Toronto Blue Jay they still have talent on that Squad but last year ended poorly and Toronto does have money Toronto fans if you talk to any of them they will be the first to let you know they have a good TV deal everyone in Canada watches the Blue Jays uh they have gone out and they’ve paid free agents and given the highest bid there is a little bit of a Toronto tax cuz you you do have to live in like a different country like that’s a thing um the taxes are high up there also that Toronto has always been rumored in on some of the big free agents they’ve landed some of the medium big free agents I mean George Springer when he was a free agent hin Ryu I remember that was a a whole deal um they may offer wota the most money it’s really hard to imagine Juan stto signing with the Toronto Blue Jays um for a lot of reasons uh the team’s Direction seems up in the air Toronto isn’t the greatest free agent destination so hey they may be the team that offers Juan soda the most money the legitimacy of Juan stto wanting to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays again I’m sitting here I’m Jake story I’m wearing a Yankees hat I have a Derek Jeter height chart behind me I just said the Red Sox rumors don’t seem true I just said the Blue Jays rumors don’t seem true all of this could horribly bite Us in the butt we could be here in a week in winter meetings and be oh my God oh my God and now we’re in a compilation right and now now people are clipping this and getting their jollies off if you will um I guess for me that that’s a bad joke I guess for me Aaron judges free agency almost and I guess this is where a lot of my confidence is coming from the Aon judge free agency went almost exactly how we thought it would like the San Francisco Giants were heavily involved that was the team rumored they’re looking for a superstar he’s from the area it was like okay all of this makes sense if they have the highest bid by a lot like they’ve they’ve got turned down by Korea that didn’t work out or they turned down Korea in the end that got weird that it was like okay the San Francisco Giants and judge like a lot of this makes sense a West Coast star local kid 400 mil whatever it is the Padres was the only wrinkle the Padres were still in there hey we’re willing to throw a ton of money at any one mode they got in the mix that was a little scary CU it was like wait does this team just have no limits Aaron judge we all talking Yanks fandoms have run through the story now um gets on the horn with Hal I believe he was in Italy at the time don’t know how the time zones there worked um but they said get me here they got him here Juan SoDo Yankees in the Mets and Steve Con in the Mets I say this with jolly in the room there is some part of that that makes sense Steve Cohen took over the New York Mets they wanted to change some of the tones of the New York Mets and you could do that by signing juodo especially away from the Yankees he’s a generational Talent he’s in his prime um Inner Circle Hall of Famer maybe we’ll see where the hitting stats land we we know where we’re at with the defense we’re talking about moving him to first base he’s on the pace I guess all of this was a winded way of Juan sto’s not signing in Toronto like I’m sorry they they may have the highest bid uh if what I said about Boston I would bet if it was Boston or Toronto I would bet my dog’s life on Boston like I’m I’m sorry to all our young Toronto Blue Jays fans that are tuning in to hate talking Yanks but no no so further into the week so sorry Andy Martino well actually no we like Andy Martino and everyone is now reading his Yankee Way book in our office so Joe’s McFly is listening to an audio book it just got to my apartment so you got you got us Sandy Tuesday Boris says stto has begun the process of eliminating teams at Snell’s press conference Blake Snell signed with the Dodgers uh every team still in the race has offered at least 600 million is that a Boris quote uh that was a separate update uh I believe that was I believe that was part of Alden Gonzalez’s report okay uh stto free agency is nearing its final stage oh that was cudy that was C the athletic crew okay Rosenthal uh entering the final stages could be done by the end of the week uh before next week’s winter meetings winter meetings start Sunday uh in Dallas Wednesday Jeff passen says all five Juan sto contenders are still in the expectations isoto will have meetings this weekend and will decide where he’s going by the time winter meeting start uh BBD you listed the teams as Yankees Mets Red Sox Blue Jays Dodgers makes sense uh we will know at latest at the time the winter meeting start in Dallas that’s a quote from passen yeah okay I’m going to call a quick timeout because you know talking with Jimmy talking around the office and again maybe this is just blind confidence that I’m about to have a horrible weekend we had a uh Sam aleri the first uh Italian baseball Italian born Italian born baseball player excuse me uh was in our office this morning uh he was an agent friend and all that uh the friend big talk and Yanks guy shout out appreciate that um and he was like you think soda’s gonna sign before winter meetings and I’ve have very much been like no um I I’ve said this for a while now I said i’ if I was Wan stto I would execute the exact same Playbook judge just did I would bring it into winter meetings probably the second day of winter meetings I would have so many rumors about the New York Mets and Uncle Steve and driving up that price tag to get either another year or another million doll a year whatever it is and then I would call Hal say the Mets are at this number you need to be at least at this number Hal says yes over coffee in Italy we run it back Jeff passen of all the beat reporters he wouldn’t say that if he didn’t think that was going to happen now could it still be wrong absolutely I mean you can hear something in one of these meetings that’s supposed to happen and plays it a couple days doesn’t get what he’s looking for then he doesn’t have to but it seems like Juan Soto’s team from the time they started setting up their first meetings was decently early on for a player’s free agency and it seemed like it’s been an aggressive course and he clearly knows kind of what number he’s looking for where he wants to be and who he’s going to consider being with that man I I guess I I haven’t been alarmist Jake yet BBD I think we’re on call man yeah this seems pretty this seems like it has a very good chance to happen if not in the next couple days I wouldn’t expect winter meeting to end without Wan stto signing uh which that’s crazy like I guess I haven’t mentally gotten to that place yet um in winter meetings and Wednesday Wednesday is the official last but that’s also like a fake last day Tuesday is like the real last day so holy smokes uh no offense to the rule five draft no offense to the rule five draft and we’re you know there’s been a lot of great success stories anthonyy s ha was a rule five draft um yeah okay that’s kind of got me on edge little bit and I wasn’t on edge I feel I was on edge about it being Jolly out of the room I was on edge about it being as soon as like tonight and I like half had plans so I feel good about that um going to see Wicked again maybe no Wicked but I’m watching a dog and then uh so so now I’m just nervous about Saturday because it seems like that’s when the timeline’s going to be here they’re talking whatever uh could definitely see it being a situation where all right one last meeting between now and Saturday get it down to two and then one last meeting and figure it out first day of winter meetings um which would blow up Jeff pass’s timeline but you’re this close maybe they do say uh well all right we’re GNA be in person in two day in a day yeah I mean hey if either way we’re on call if all of this is true to the of course uh one a little credit to woto players get to dictate how their free agency goes and it seems like he wants to get it done and over with I will walk that back a little bit because you know if I knew I was getting every offers at 600 million I I would I would be pretty okay getting it done with um but man that’s going to be massive for the Yankees and whatever work they need to do this offseason CU if you’ve been listening um if they don’t get Wan sto there’s so many different directions you can go with this team um some are some are good and we talked ourselves into but it’s obviously you’re you’d be missing a generational Hall of Famer in the middle of the lineup uh that has sent us down a few different paths so um I think the last thing with stto that again this doesn’t happen or hearing this should be maybe the most positive thing I say uh the Yankees believe so okay it’s from Mark fand that they will get a final crack to match or beat the best offer that’s a good sign to me that makes me think he likes being a New York Yankee better than them not believing but it’s just a belief they could believe wrong so doesn’t sound like they’ve been promised that caveat but we uh damn we’re on call this weekend I gotta cancel all my appointments I was going to go see Wicked Saturday early afternoon I don’t know me and Jess will figure that out um let’s talk about some of these other rumors baseball reference when you get a chance it is impressive and jumps off the page uh how good he has been uh the Yankees had a 90-minute zoom call with Max freed that supposedly went well sounded like both sides were surprised that’s kind of funny I mean imagine if it went bad 90 minutes of a bad Zoom call that’s a nightmare uh sounds like it went well this report somebody on Freed’s side said max really really liked them okay so we’re passing notes in the back of the class now these are all from those two are from Michael K we love Michael K Michael K is the best uh sources indicated that 19 team officials were on the zoom including Aaron Boone Matt Blake BBD note somewhere I want more on this the next time we talk to Boon these spring training I don’t know but were they all in the same Zoom shot no is it like like our setup where they have a conference room it’s the offseason they don’t they aren’t like all in the same building no so they’re nine different Zoom there’s a bunch of boxes did how many people did Max freed have were there 16 different people in different zooms that’s a horrible Zoom what does the Grid on that look like we need more inform I’m okay I’m gonna I’m when we’ve been doing our Yankees offseason exercises if the Yankees do sign ju stto we think that’s going to be around 45 46 47 a year something like that he’s their their stated goal has been to beat otani’s 4 six in change per year number so 40 47 plus so if it’s 47 that leaves the Yankees remaining uh Capital nice term Jake uh they have 80 million so that gets us to what 30 33 million left approximately and we’ve talked about doing a Marcus strowman potential trade to get his 18 million off the books um yeah Max freed is going to be looking low 30 Millions I I’m guessing maybe a little more maybe a little less I don’t know looking at the the Yanks plan sheet from from previous setup from previous episodes uh I believe the number is 30 just under 34 million after factoring in uh 47 mil for SoDo so fre I expect to get uh just about all of that that number that’s without any additional money out moves so yeah the the interesting side of this is like okay are these with SoDo or without sto because the Corbin Burns part of this um is more or less sounds like a backup plan if Juan stto does not happen um and that’s kind of will adamus too Mark fand uh said the Yankees expressed interest in will adamus um Willie adamus has been open about playing Third Base we talked about this a little bit there’s there’s a chance Willie adamus is a better short stop than Anthony vulpi so that’s a whole can of worms that I’d rather not go down that path um Willie Adamas is a really good baseball player uh was he 3030 last year um I know he was he was darn close in the neighborhood 32 homers 21 stolen bases uh 794 op yes 21 and a half career War he’s a very good ball player uh a lot of that does come from being a short stop Short Stops do move to Third Base it’s just how much of that bat will continue to carry for him um and I guess let’s say now let’s say Juan sto signs with the Yankees yep Round of Applause 47 million let’s say the max freed stuff is true and it’s part of wotto and that basically clears what we considered to be the rest of their financials for this season um now we talked about a Marcus strowman potential trade dump and and maybe that happens and with some of the contracts that pitchers are getting uh again being it a trade dump is very dramatic like one year 188 million for Marcus strowman is a usable asset um I seeing some of the free agent prices that have come out I mean I I originally was saying he would probably be a oneyear 12 mil guy it’s looking like he’d be a oneyear like 156 mil guy so you’re getting towards what his value would be Matthew Boyd Frankie Monas in the contracts they’ve gotten and we’re happy for Frankie Monas we’re happy for Frankie Monas we are we wish him luck let’s go Matts that was that was a little toxic and I’m sorry that’s not what the holiday season is about but that video is one of the craziest videos that’s ever been posted on the internet you can talk about that I’ll uh I just want it cursed an entire season yeah it really did right before the 2023 season started it cursed the that’s one of the craziest videos I’ve ever seen as soon as I saw it I was like we’re doomed yeah I believe he says I I know them season doesn’t really start until the home opener in good old fashion I can’t good old fashion we’re done that’s done um let’s say in this in this dream world Juan stto Signs with the Yankees Max freed signs with the Yankees now we’re really in talking Yanks offseason mode baby um awesome uh but the Yankees even if there is uh a strowman mover whatever it is they’re hands are tied that you Jason Dominguez would be a starting outfielder for this team and that may be part of the Yankees plans let’s see um might be part of your plan anyway listening to this you want that Caleb Durban come on down uh fighting with his Waldo for playing time uh first base really wouldn’t have a solution uh it would be Ben rice and DJ so if you have eyes for stto and everyone should have eyes for stto and you have eyes for Max freed and you should have eyes for Max freed he’s very very good um know that the Yankees would have the high-end talent to go toe-to-toe with pretty much everyone the Dodgers um but man that team would have some death concerns that we should we would be so excited about you have Juan stto and you have Max freed your rotation would be Cole rodon freed heel Schmidt yeah strowman and Nester is bonus pieces that again there would be more work to be done and if you’re at home you’re saying okay we’ll trade strowman for a first basem and maybe that would happen a lot of people like Nathaniel low I don’t know if the Texas Rangers want to trade him um and yeah if you’re bringing in that caliber of high-end Talent you’re going to bank on that and you’re going to believe in that but it would make the rest of the there would be a talking Yanks episode where Jimmy gets back from Australia where me him and BBD look at each other like so what else are we really going to bank on youth than Matt Blake’s pitching master class which he deserves I’m going to go check my DMs uh he hasn’t seen it yet it’s whatever um it would be really cool but it would put the Yankees in in a in a weird like what else can we do spot but if we’re trying to keep up with the Joneses and those are currently the Dodgers who beat us in the World Series then yeah um I don’t know uh interested to see when the woto news cracks um cracks when the w Pho news cracks will is Max freed still in play is Corbin burn still in play is Willie Adam still in play or are those with some moves around the league and how they might impact the Yankees start talking about this a little bit um when it comes to strowman and I do think Nester has to be a part of the convers ation again we know the Yankees consider trading Nester at the deadline um nestor’s coming in at 7 mil uh give or take I think eight is a number I saw that area neer’s coming in at 78 million he has two years left I believe this is his last year or this is the last year so uh I guess it’s it’s the Marcus strowman conversation with Nester who Nester seemingly still has better high-end potential it feels like he could if he’s healthy and he TAPS in Nester could still give you the the really strong season where strowman it feels like he’s out there to eat Innings and he’s going to nibble and he’s going to do Marcus strowman and some days that’s going to work and other days that’s not going to work um you know we saw the Yankees not use him did he not Pitch the entire postseason he did not end up pitching at all in the postseason wow um that some of the price tags Snell 36.2 million piveta and Luis SE Ino old friend they turned down the qualifying offer of uh 21 million Nick Martinez if you’re not familiar you should be he had a really nice year for Cincinnati he took 21 million and then you say Kikuchi got 21 million for three years on the open market um Burns freed and Peta all have qualifying offers attach uh so the Yankees would be giving up picks to get them so that’s something to think about and wasn’t isn’t burns like real picks isn’t that like a second and A fifth or something or was that some for any of because of where the Yankees are it’s the same for any of them think of a whatever your second and fifth most valuable picks are doesn’t necessarily mean the second and fifth round because if you got a comp pick for somebody else and that pick become your second and fifth most valuable picks wherever those lie or what would be going in the case of the Yankees Frankie Monas has referenced earlier in the show he got 17 million a year for two years and he has a player opt out so it’s a very good contract for Frankie Monas if he the new pitching Season uh Matthew Boyd 14.5 million he hasn’t thrown over a 100 Innings since 2019 um I don’t think he’s thrown over 80 Innings no I I have 78 and 2/3 as is most in a year since 2019 so uh again I I think the two things in play here for the New York Yankees uh well let’s focus on strowman and Nester because strowman we’ve talked about that 18 mil we may need to allocate that money in different places it’s how we would handle it professionally in a business meeting um and there’s teams that could use Marcus strowman’s Innings uh probably around a 4 ER depending where he’s pitching and what defense he has behind him hell the Chicago Cubs who they signed Matthew Boyd and they have pitching Marcus strowman if you recall and I said this a lot he got off to an electric start in 2023 with the Chicago Cubs and they had really good defense uh Nico Herer Dansby Swanson Cody Bellinger remember a couple of those names um that I don’t think the Cubs need more starting pitching or uh Marcus strowman uh but if you’re a team that has good defense behind you and maybe a big ballpark like the Kansas City Royals just came to mind although they have their own pitching um Marcus strowan can be an impactful player for your team um especially over the course of 162 um that his trade marketing considerations are very interesting and I do think is very much on the table because the price tag is less than half with probably more potential and I guess going back to the WAN stto trade rumors of yester year when we did Michael King and Clark Schmidt we had very similar discussions and Michael King was the piece that the Padres wanted that as my I have Nester heartstrings uh maybe the most in this office something about the way that man looks while he’s doing it it gets me uh and he’s got some Moxy and I I I love Nester I do whoa emotional um if the right trade is out there and Marcus strowman comes in as your six starter for next year with as a potential Swingman SL there’s going to be an injury and Nester can help whether it’s a need at first base or whether it’s um a true center fielder or something like that uh that has to be on the table and it is in and like we just alluded to a year ago we talked about going into that offseason the Yankees didn’t need a starting pitcher or whatever they had depth at the position and when you have an area that’s as deep as that and they have that again this year that might be where you deal from to make a trade so especially when at least the consensus is they don’t have high-end Prospect Capital that teams are dying for yeah one of their stting pitchers ner strowman slightly less likely a Clark have to be on the table Clark’s interesting because where’s his value at um let’s chatter around him but should very much be part of the conversation right if that’s you know the the Cubs who I just mentioned Nico her and Cody Bellinger if if the Cubs did if the Cubs were interested in Nestor Roman or Clark Schmidt and if you’re the Yankees and you can get belly and we’ve talked about the potential of Cody Bellinger the the ability to play first base the ability to play The Outfield athletic Lefty swing should play at the stadium all the good stuff and the price tag shouldn’t be too expensive because like we mentioned he is getting paid 25.2 million a year uh but reminder the strowman money doesn’t equal that um so if you have Max free dreams those might be out out the door um but if the Yankees because the Cubs have a second base prospect that if Nico Warner Cody [Music] Bellinger I mean we’ve talked about a lot of the different paths this offseason could go if it’s SoDo Cody Bellinger and Nico Herer you you had a huge off season that’s I mean three Cody’s got an Cody’s got an MVP in the back Nico hor is a gold l in kind of like what we’ve been looking for at second base contact defense he’s you know this is a bit of a curse where I might have to bleed this out he’s the ikf that was promised at good at good at defense and hits above average we’re going to bleep we’re gonna bleep that out bleep that out in post um consistently hits above it above League average I think well there’s one other thing uh well hey Kyle Hig shoka got two years 13 A5 mil from the Texas Rangers let’s go higgy we celebrate that a Fame talking yank guest reminder to go check out his interview on talking Yanks from 2020 right before Co I believe he’s uh outside the RV interview so if you just want to see a totally different world go check that out um and it’s a reminder uh you know we talked about a lot about Travino and you know where the Yankees going to keep him he’s expected to get 3.4 million in arbitration higgy got 6.75 so as years as we’re rounding out our bullpens and you know alloca allocation of money I don’t know if that’s the right words um and that leads us to Tommy Canley wanting to come back there’s mutual interest a healthy market for Canley and Tim Hill uh a couple guys that we’ve considered for our offseason plans Canley is interesting to me um he is going to be he turns 36 next August it’s always older than you think his regular season was pretty incredible I mean 50 games a 211 erra just over a strikeout per inning his playoffs were great too first the first eight games he pitched were scoreless it ended on a slightly sour note mm um it did which I unfortunately and again I know Houston was doing illegal stuff but that is how 2017 ended that I don’t know two two years again Tommy kanley does not get blamed for game five of the World Series or really 2017 because of everything else going on there again he was good during so maybe I just need to watch that whole thing that yeah if Tommy if Tommy Canley is back for the Yankees you know that’s a guy we’re comfortable pitching eighth Innings seventh Innings and even a couple nights along the way um no’s going to be upset I would just be a little surprised I guess if the Yankees if the Yankees are willing to invest money in the bullpen because Matt Blake has been so good at turning guys around um I would want it to be a little bit more of a true high-end I believe this guy could be our closer considering that clay Holmes is gone and the way they talked about clay Holmes means they believed they had a ninth inning closer on their hand I know Luke weave dog has stepped up but kley and Clay Holmes I mean that’s for a lot of the years for a lot of this year that was the8 a lot of back end that was a lot of back end so um I’m very interested to see how they approach the back end of the bullpen this off season and I wonder how much of all of it is affected by Juan stto and I think we’re going to get some news soon uh winter meetings has come I mean for talking Yanks listeners you know we were not planning until next Tuesday I would I would even if the news doesn’t happen I would guess we do an episode before Tuesday so that’s good news for you guys uh and us I’m jazzed up I didn’t realize I was on call
