good afternoon ladies and gentlemen data here with breaking news in the National Hockey League as the David Urich Saga has finally come to an end as the Minnesota Wild have acquired him in a pick in a deal excuse me that may be described as a fleece in my opinion we’ll start breaking it all down let’s get right into it right here starting with who the Minnesota Wild are acquiring a great young right-handed defenseman who was the former sixth overall pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets a young offense first defenseman if you look at the Jay fresh card to start the off who plays a creative and aggressive game with and without the puck but has struggled with positioning and especially Mobility early in his career which has led to the falling out I suppose with the blue jacket organization being sent down more often than he would like to be especially as the sixth overall pick in 2022 now he’s at an age where he’s looking at nemit playing he’s looking at kinsky playing yes he’s played 53 games but he’s been toyed with up and down parts of 2022 23 23 24 and now 2425 All In AHL he’s gotten a little bit of a taste in the NHL but never enough to stick and I’m sure that he’s thinking what is going on and here we go H the Blue Jackets say let’s just cut our ties with you so David y right now very small sample size it’s just how many NHL games we have to look at here this is just 53 NHL games really hard to get a complete look at who year is in the NHL but we’ll start breaking down who we was who he was as a prospect as well so looking through his 53 games in the NHL he’s not 51st percent of even strength offense just just above League average below League average for his even strength defense where he does stand out is primary assist that 87th percentile but again that’s a very small sample size not really reflective of what he does as a player he’s not playing with high levels of teammates he’s not playing against high levels of competition either so it’s hard to get a real look at who he is as a player uh looking at what J fresh continues to go on to say here year che’s apparent impatience with lengthy AHL stints made the jacket’s development plan for him a bit untenable I really enjoy saying J fresh him at the world juniors in 2023 when he was the tournament’s best defenseman he’s a real presence and no doubt confident in his abilities so now the Minnesota Wild get to acquire him with a fifth round pick why not for Damon hunt a 2025 first which should be one of the final picks of the draft of the first round of the draft a 20272 and a 2027 fourth now if you go back a little bit further on David y we look at Patrick bacon breaking it down back when y was drafted as David bacon says playing against grown men and scoring year like year Che has done over each of the past two years in the Czech league is nearly unprecedented for a prospect his age with his impressive size he seems a steal at sixth overall this was his projection coming out of the world juniors moving into the draft and with the um and with the projection being what it is right now obviously we haven’t really seen much of that just yet but I wonder if given a full season in the NHL would that be anything different with Minnesota Wild it maybe not not even just say a full season but a full consistent season no scratches no send Downs give him 18 20 minutes per night and see what he does I wonder what kind of piece he could be for the Minnesota Wild who get him at a bargain and really with pretty low risk yes it’s a package yes it’s value it’s not I’m not going to pretend that it’s absolutely nothing but it is a fleece in terms of the value that comes back not in terms of the situation the Blue Jackets had to get what they could but in terms of the situation it’s in terms of the player that they get value-wise it is a fleece with Damon hunt a first a second and a fourth being all that they get back I say all that they get back but that’s a 2025 first which should be like 25th overall or later and then a pick in the second and fourth rounds of a draft that are two and a half years away from today players who are 15 years old who are going to be drafted by then or even younger so the Blue Jackets as an organization they had an excess of Defense that’s true but I don’t think that you could say he was one of the pieces that they were super interested in moving out if they had to move someone out if you look at their defense and their system they have kolman they have matuk yes even sosal guys like that but David E was going to be the future of this organization’s Blue Line especially on that right side yes they’re stacked right now rensy on the left serson on the right proov on the left good Branson on the right currently injured Dante Fabro just came in so maybe that is what pushed year check a little bit even further towards saying listen let’s get a deal done you just brought in another right shot defenseman who’s 26 who is going to be maybe around here for a few more years another guy who could be taking one of my top four spots I’m not happy with how you’re treating me in my development let’s just get this over with and make it the you know the best case for everybody now who the CL Blue Jackets getting back they do got a good young defenseman in Damon hunt who’s 22 years old third round pick back in 2020 he’s also been a guy who’s been up and down with the NHL in the AHL only 13 games between the last couple Seasons this year he played one game but in Iowa with the AHL Squad four assists in nine games and I don’t think the Blue Jackets mind getting a left-handed defenseman it seems like they had a bit more on the right side because m tchuk is also a right-handed defenseman correct oh muk’s left sorry it’s kman who’s right so they add another left-handed defenseman in their system it just adds to their abundance of riches for the defensive depth I suppose if you have to take out e at least you’re getting back a defensive player obviously of much lesser quality now to get back those picks it’s not horrible that’s still good value I’m just saying the value that year check had when drafted was much higher than what you’re getting today with a late first and then second and fourth three years away from now because if you look at their current draft pick situation I don’t think it’s updated no it’s not you just added another first in 2025 you added a second in 2027 that’s now your second and a fourth in 2027 that’s also your second there so the Blue Jackets have no second round picks in 2025 or 2026 so adding that first and 25 will help to fix the Blue Jackets organization that’s kind of reeling still from from the passing of Johnny G where are they as an organization are they a tweener team should they be moving into a full rebuild they just moved one of their biggest blue chip prospects one of the biggest blue chip prospects in the league I would think at this age for prospects who are 20 20 21 years of age yeah he just turned 20 actually for prospects who are 20 not 19 not 18 for prospects who are 20 I would say David Deek is in that blue chip category he was doing great things in the Czech league in the NHL he has had good numbers I know that Jay fresard didn’t look super impressive I’m saying eating some decent minutes depends on the game but look at this he’s being played 8 minutes 8 minutes 9 minutes give him feed him those minutes he played 17 minutes here 12 minutes there his on Ice average through four games in 2022 23 only four games but at least he was playing 18 minutes a night when he was playing half of a season last year 14 and a half minutes per night okay it’s probably a little lower than he would have liked but this year in six games two more games than what he played two years ago he’s playing seven less minutes I would feel disrespected as well his 82 game career average is blocking a shot per game a hit you know about 60 hits and 80 games of you know hit every hit and a half every other game something like that and there’s still a lot to say it’s about David year we can’t judge him on what he’s done so far because there’s really not a lot to say the Minnesota Wild get back Damon hunt Okay and in their draft pick situation there this is a good move for the Minnesota Wild in terms of listen we have huge contractual issues we’re paying 14.7 million to go ghosts right now we need to say listen Krill capriso get excited to stay here who else is going to need a contract in the near future matuk is going to be expiring uh you most of the core has pretty much signed on Baldi signed on Eric X has signed on I think it’s more for Carill capriso than anything they need to give a contract to Marco Rossi their defense is signed on yeah it’s pretty much saying this is the piece who’s going to carry us into the future when Spurgeon has gone in a few years when brodin’s in his mid-30s in a few years when Brock Faber has nobody else to be with him then you can at least Faber and year check are the one-w punch on that blue line I wish I had my thoughts a little bit more put together it is instant reaction and Analysis that’s what we call it here on the channel but in the draft pick situation for the wild they now lose their 2025 first which is what a team should be doing when they’re going all in fast forward a few months from now and first round picks get you a depth player at the deadline so a first round pick in 2025 so that now means no first and no third as well as no seventh in the 2025 draft just a second a fourth a sixth as you Leap Frog each one there and in 2027 they hadn’t touched any of their picks yet so now they have two of each in 2026 for the third fourth fifth and sixth round they now have no second and no fourth in 2027 which I don’t think is a bad problem at all yeah they also drafted buam in this draft Yeah the the decor is set for Minnesota Wild I was just looking this is just players who are signed on to contracts actually if we scroll further where’s zeve yeah Z is not even down here so throw in yeah even Carson Lambos on that left side forgot about him so the blues sorry the the wild why I’m saying the Blues the Minnesota Wilds Decor of the future your first pair your right pair if you want two lefts and two rights you got Lambos and buum on the left you got year check and Faber on the right this is a huge masterclass type trade in terms of filling your needs for the least amount of value possible moved by Billy Garren the Blue Jackets what do they think about this well they get some value but I really wish I knew more about what went wrong here like am I have they have they been that upset with David y he’s looked great in AHL 38 points in 55 games in 2223 last year 19 points in 29 games yes negative 16 but Cleveland wasn’t great and this year two points in the two games that he played so I wonder why did Columbus have to feel so pressured to not play him in the NHL in a season that’s pretty much still a Lost season they’re not really going for anything this year why could the Blue Jackets not give him the big minutes that sometimes they didn’t why could they not give him 20 minutes per night I don’t know like were they that if we look at defense here I know your top four is one two three and four now Dante Fabro but why did you feel the need to go out and get Dante Fabro if you have David ych who you’re trying to develop right so that’s what confuses me on this deal that is what confuses me Damon hunt Minnesota Wild we looked at a little bit as well and there you go is there any other I wonder if the quick analysis is of this one if we refresh here on Twitter vas already put it out there on the Minnesota Wild very good not a package of the pens could have beaten say the least sure yeah J fresh a penguins fan of course Danny needs to see unemployment so our good buddy friend of the channel Derek who’s the president of Flyers Twitter saying why couldn’t the Flyers put together packaged like this so that’s kind of what I’m thinking as well if this is the package I know it’s not anything to sneeze at it’s still value when I say the word fleece it’s in terms of the value that the player brings but in terms of this guy wanted out and the team had their back up against the wall why could other teams not give this value yes it’s considerable to say a first and a second and a fourth over the next three drafts but it’s not back breaking it’s not franchise depleting and Damon Hunt is not a blue ship Prospect or a huge Prospect either yeah is a former third down pick yes he’s 22 but I wouldn’t see him as ever being higher than a third pair maybe second pair guy he’s not going to be he doesn’t have that top pair potential of the Year Che absolutely not so I’m surprised why the why the Blue Jackets couldn’t pull like a cutter goats a Jamie Dale type swap whereas one good player for another maybe of two players who aren’t fitting why could jich not get a better package did the blue jacks just really want picks then I wonder let’s turn to some of you if you look down in the comments from all of you over here uh yeah why exactly why wouldn’t a team like Philadelphia do this says Gavin while they’re going to be a wagon for years to come yeah that top four that top four is crazy if we go and look at the wild organization give me a second here let might get this off the screen give me a second here Gavin if we look at the wild so we got Z on the left side and yeah even Aaron Ki for about him even Aaron Ki Haru but zeve who’s on that left side is turning 19 and you would think that these guys with the Aging Wild Blue Line could be seeing NHL action as soon as next year but definitely that top four of the future by like 2026 27 are will have arrived that’s just crazy in my mind uh let’s see jenz saying I wanted him for either the Hawks or the knights uh CBJ the Blue Jackets messed up his development they also drafted Z yes exactly so Z Ki Haru Faber Year Jack as a wild fan is just eating this up best goalie Prospect you could say that for yesper wall step very good forward core for sure for sure nice future core for the wild that’s just on the blue line right but in general great Prospect pool for a team that saw so much I don’t even know what the word is pain for that for those for the sudor and um the sud and PR buyouts that’s it Jack you know what I’m not going to pretend that this is the move that solidifies the wild Dynasty the wild were already in a fantastic place so this does not tip the scales to say okay they were maybe going to be good over the next 10 years and now they’re going to be a dynasty no the wild were already in a very good place but in terms of the the the yeah the the solidness of the blue line if you can now develop e check well it’s not a slam dun he’s going to develop there were problems with the Blue Jackets there could be problems with the wild it’s not a guarantee but there is a much greater chance seemingly a year check developing with the wild or just any team other than Blue Jackets with how that relationship was turning out that’s what seem things seem to be just want to go ahead and plug it here subscribe if you haven’t already and make sure to leave a like breaking news and Analysis the real world of hockey here on the channel always breaking things down as they happen instant analysis and of course our nhl2 series our franchise modes or career Sims and much much more should we do a David year Che wild simulation perhaps so those are my immediate thoughts on it ladies and gentlemen what do you think join me down here in the comments or over on our Discord server over 700 members talking hockey fantasy sports franchise mode join us in there to to to further the the discussion I got to think the Blue Jackets with a move like that are saying not only are we going into are we continuing our rebuild but the our goal for the Year by which we want to be competitive is not coming anytime soon that you have Monahan sign on for four more years at the age of 30 it’s really odd you have uh Damon Severson signed on for a big contract for four more years at the age of 30 what’s Columbus up to if I’m Columbus I’m selling Ivan proov I’m trying to get anyone to take these other longer term contracts uh and then my guys like cyinder my guys like chikov my guys like marchenko and my fentii my future guys that I’m going to draft over the next three years really that first in 2025 is what’s Val most valuable but even then if the wild go on their run they’re going to be a that’s going to be a 25 plus overall pick right I think the wild used that fifth rounder to trade for a forward yeah the wild also brought back a fifth round pick don’t forget about that gabin saying Nashville has three first round picks they should have been in on this that’s a great statement right there especially if they moved out Dante Fabro on that right side very G that’s a fantastic observation gabin why of all teams did the Nashville Predators with three first round picks and Fabro out on the right side not make some sort of move here and even if the Blue Jackets were interested in Fabro why not a first and Fabro with a third or whatever else want to toss in for year check instead you lose Fabro for free to the Blue Jackets and then they and then don’t go in on a trade that’s odd for someone like your Che Columbus messed up yeah you would think I’m not going to pretend that development is like franchise mode where you just give them ice time and that’s it but I’m surprised they I don’t know didn’t try to make this work further he’s only 20 he’s not 22 he’s not 23 they don’t have to feel the clock ticking too much why the urgency it had to really be more on year Che side I would think you would have to think any other things here yeah Derek really not happy with Danny Brier right now just to recap it one last time if you’re joining me after the first couple minutes David year Che acquired by the Minnesota Wild is a young offense first defenseman who plays a creative and aggressive game with and without the puck but has struggled with positioning and especially mobility in his early in his career it’s going to be a fresh start for the sixth overall pick if you look at how his numbers were coming out of the draft actually I deleted that now but it was he was projected very highly coming out of the Czech leagues and he was almost thought of as a steal for the sixth overall pick and now there you go there you go so I want I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts any more things that you have to say down here in the comments uh the wild must not be worried about his skating issues I suppose not John and even if they are I think that they’re going to be saying to themselves hey let’s just give him a chance at this cost a late first picks three years from now and not one of our top prospects they have a great Prospect pool they didn’t have to trade any of their top prospects if I’m Minnesota I’m taking a chance on that as well bringing proov and seers into Columbus basically ended year te’s career in Columbus that that might be it as well bringing those guys in on the right side and then even bringing in Fabro on top of it yep that’s about it so that’s all I have to say about the deal huge win for the wild the Blue Jackets got the value that they could but I’m surprised that they felt forced to make this trade and that they put themselves in the position to to make year check unhappy makes sense what I’m saying and the Blue Jackets honestly got lucky with what they got and if you know if if things are going to continue trending downward then you’re absolutely right but I’m surprised that again I’m using this word a lot but why aren’t you giving him 20 minutes per night and showcasing him a bit more why are you putting him up and down in the AHL NHL not giving him ice time was he scratched as well yeah and then what did the Wild do with that fifth take that fifth flip it for guy like Nathan Bastion I could see that being a great move for them so I’ll end it off there ladies and gentlemen there are my instant thoughts looking forward to hearing what you have to say subscribe to also and hit that Bell of course to be notified whenever there’s a live stream for breaking news and Analysis in the real world of hockey our franchise mode series on nhl2 on MLB the show 24 our career simulations should we get a a year check career Sim I did a career Sim actually I’ll put it in the cards of this one in the top right corner after the live stream’s done we did a a David year check career simulation and you know what while I’m gonna go ahead and show it give me one second right here I’m gonna go ahead and show it to you the David year career simulation let me pull up these numbers these were the numbers that he had um let’s see this yes I have him right here when simulated on NHL 23 let me go ahead and share my screen there one quick moment these were the NHL 23 results there it is the NHL 23 oh Chrome does not have permission to do that okay so then what I’ll do is show you it on YouTube give me a sec hang around if you want to see what I’m talking about year check career Sim not sure why I didn’t give me the permissions to do there we go and I will share it now finally there it is great so the year check Sim the complete stats had it looking like this there we go and let me make make sure that this is like that perfect so year in this simulation found his way never to the Minnesota Wild but after 357 games with the Blue Jackets he did end up going to the Philadelphia Flyers interesting and then he he jumped around like one season per team pretty much and in the end 1343 games played 656 points put up almost 1900 hits almost 1800 blocks playoffs didn’t do too much oh I remember this now I remember now the Blue Jackets disrespected him in this one too yes yes yes in 2026 they made the Stanley Cup finals then in 2027 he sat out the entire season as an RFA the Blue Jackets won the Stanley Cup then in 2028 he signed a contract and made the Stanley Cup Final again but lost in the final so blue blue jackets made three consecutive staning Cup finals and only one in 2027 when year Che was sitting out the entire year because of an RFA contract dispute wow but all I have to say is 82 82 game career average was 116 hits per season and 108 blocks per season so that’s what hl23 thought about him wow that is great I forgot how crazy that story was I really could have seen him going to the Flyers he would have fit into that group pretty nice honestly I agree with that as well the Flyers and the Predators both could have got this done but props to Billy Garen on pulling the trigger on on uh I think a good gamble we’ll call it that so now I’ll end it off thank you very much for watching everybody have yourselves a lovely rest of your Saturday evening what a move I’m sure there seems to be a lot of chat around the NHL for other trades so subscribe and hit that Bell to be notified when those other trades happen and we’ll be right here to break it all down on the channel thanks for joining me leave a like if you enjoyed and again wishing you all a lovely Saturday evening for all my American friends out there on this Thanksgiving weekend have a great rest of your night and we’ll talk soon
