again undeterred and undefeated in their first season in the Big 10 the ducks ran the table beating the best the conference had to offer Oregon is the only undefeated team in FBS this season a perfect 12 and o oh oh no Ohio state was primed to play Oregon in the Big 10 Championship but the Buckeyes got upset by Michigan the beneficiary Penn State the nitty lions belong on the big stage yet the question remains can they win the big game under head coach James Franklin Penn State has lost 11 straight games against top five opponents now facing the tippy top team in all of college football pen State Oregon for the Big 10 Championship on CBS [Music] go the stage is set here at Lucas Oil Stadium as the number one team in the nation the Oregon Ducks look to remain undefeated and lock up that number one seed in the college football playoff against a Penn State team that is hoping to play spoiler it doesn’t get bigger than this it’s the big 10 championship game and our pregame coverage begins right here on CBS Sports HQ presen Ed by Wayfair every style every home I am Jordan Georgio alongside a few guys who know just what it takes to win a National Championship it’s Damen Harris Danny canel and Cardell Jones with you we’ll be with you the next hour as we take you all the way up to kick off here at Lucas oyal Stadium guys we made it we’re here IND Cardell how hyped up are you I’m pretty good not only just having the best looking crew and the best dressed crew can we take a moment the best looking set and the most comfortable set I don’t know about to you guys as the game go on you guys go out there and hang out and have fun I’m just going to turn this chair around and watch from here the best view of the whole day so the f are jealous not not only do we got these beautiful couchs we got the carpet and mat I’m pretty sure I’m pretty sure when I was on the phone with my mother-in-law today she was asking where youall get that carpet from wa beir mother-in-law way beir so good what are you most looking forward to today you guys um I’m looking forward to seeing which team establishes the Run game we know that Jordan James from Oregon has been Sensational all season long can Nick Singleton and KRON Allen on the other side for Penn State can they get something going can they not make this game onedimensional and just fall solely on the quarterback shoulders Step Up have an impact in this game and I truly think whichever team runs the ball better wins today I can’t watch wait to watch these team these are two of the best teams in college football I think we’re spoiled because we got the best Conference Championship game of the day and I think you’re going to see defenses shine on the field tonight we’ll see cuz there’s some great offensive weapons for both of these teams Tyler Warren is an incredible tight end for Penn State Dylan Gabriel’s had a phenomenal year for Oregon but I still think these defenses are going to be on display tonight you know I I agree with you Daddy and what can they having Carter Big 10 defensive player of the year Oregon last week coming up with 10 sacks and all these quarterback I think it’s going to be a defensive Showdown today cuz both teams have some offensive weapons that each defense need to account for and understand where these guys at every snap when they line up a guy like Tyler Warren he’s been taking Snaps at quarterback running back receiver tight end he even snapped the ball this year and got there exactly the same exactly let’s not forget so I’m looking for a defense to Showdown all right well let’s go ahead and get into this match up it’s a number one team of the nation in Oregon taking on a pen State team who we did not think was going to be in India a lot of their fans showed out though it’s so great to see but Oregon enters this game the only undefeated team in the FBS right now but cell are they truly the best team in this nation you know I think so they’ve been the most consistent they’ve been the most dominant at times and they don’t make mistakes that hurt them Oregon you look at the way they went on the road look the way they defend the house this team is the same team you know what you’re going to get with these guys and they consistently get better and it all starts with Dylan Gabriel he is the most official quarterback this year and he protects the football with a 3 to1 turnover ratio and a touchdown so yeah with all of those BS and all those accolades they’ve been doing it each and every weekend for 12 weeks straight I know so much has been made of strength of schedules who have you played who have you beaten but there is only one team in all of college football that doesn’t have a blemish in the Lost column and I still maybe call me old school I still think that matters but there are a bunch of flawed teams across college football and you find those flaws in some of the ugly losses they’ve lost to lesser opponents Oregon looks to be the most complete team in college football great defense great offense solid veteran quarterback play they have been the best team so far this season and they’re going to try to prove it again tonight against a very very good Penn State team and I think the Catalyst of that is Dylan Gabriel like both of you guys have said I’ve even joked about this guy is the longest 10 year college football player in a long time but what that does is it gives you a leader it gives you a guy under Center that has seen everything he’s seen every covered he’s seen all the blitzes he’s seen all the looks so pin State’s not going to be able to surprise him in any way shape or fashion that’s why he has such a high touchdown to turnover ratio it’s all it about Dylan Gabriel and how he catalyzes this offense and he’s done a phenomenal job of it everybody on offense rallies around him then when you’ve got such a highly improved defense coached by TSH ly coming into the Big 10 and completely taking over this conference I mean it’s hard to say especially when they have zero losses in the L C it’s hard to say that they’re not the best team in the country right now yeah Oregon has been a top of the ranking since October the 20th but they really haven’t been tested a lot do you think Danny they’re in for a bit of a reality check against a pennate team that fully understands the opportunity in front of them since that Ohio State win which was in Eugene that was a home game they you know they had the Wisconsin game that was on the road and it was tight it was 16 to 13 and it was was closer much closer than a lot of people thought and if you can tell from the noise we’re hearing behind us this is going to be a Penn State crowd we were kind of saying it’s probably between 70 to 80% of Penn State fans so not only are they going to have to face a really good team they’re going to have to face a hostile environment where it’s tough to communicate but I do think Dan Lanning will have this team prepped and ready to go he is one of the best motivators in the sport I live for his pregame speeches I find him on social media or on YouTube and go watch them like when I’m ready to get started got get out that’s what I do to get me he’s he’s one of the best out there he’s a great mind as well so I think’ll have him ready to go but it will be a challenge for them all right I’m glad that you brought up Dan Ling because I do want to talk about this coaching match up but let’s talk about James Franklin okay when you look at the coaching match up James Franklin is 1 and 13 in his career at Penn State against AP top five team what would a win mean for James Franklin it would be huge it would change it would completely Wasing completely but it would rewrite a lot of the narrative that we’re having about not only James Franklin not only Drew Allard but this entire Penn State team listen we saw the passion and the enthusiasm that the fans showed after that loss to Ohio State so there is an incredible sense of urgency today to win this game and wipe that stench off of James Franklin’s resume they have a perfect opportunity to do that what bigger stage than a conference Championship when conference championships still matter I’m going to say it if anybody else does it these conference championships still matter and you’re playing against one of the top offensive teams one of the best defensive teams in the country James Bret has an unbelievable opportunity to write some of these wrongs that we’ve been talking about all season long I’m kind of tired of talking about it can you imagine what he’s tired of listening to it AB it’s valid like but it the record is what it is so every time you have that opportunity and the worst that record gets you get that much more you know frustrated I wonder if he tries to press you try to do things differently but the ultimate thing is you got to take the opportunity you have to make the most of it saying okay this could be the one where I start to change that narrative where I start to add some W’s in that win column to change that because the reality is what it is the record is what it is the only way to to silence your critics is to get a win tonight yeah I totally agree with you guys you guys get all the major points and he has an unbelievable opportunity right here tonight to be the number one team in the country and then you get a first round buy and now the focus will be on the next steps which will be a national championship for Franklin all right you guys we have to leave it there cuz we have to hit a quick break the stadium is starting to fill up you probably can’t see the fans just yet but you can hear them pen fans Oregon fans filling Lucas Oil Stadium before we go to break we want to let you know that you can shop CBS Sports HQ with a special collection from Wayfair all you got to do scan the QR code on your screen or visit shop. cbssports.com right now to start shopping we have to hit a quick break but don’t go anywhere we’re just getting started here college football pregame on CBS Sports HQ when we return We dive deeper into this Oregon offense and how they stack up against a Penn State Defense that’s more motivated than ever stay with us [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] n [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to college football pregame here on CBS Sports HQ where that guy Oregon quarterback Dylan Gabriel looks to end his final season at Oregon as a big 10 Champion he has the veteran IQ all of the experience we’ve talked about it before but will that be enough against the Penn State Defense that is just more motivated than ever let’s talk about it as we welome welcome you back to our beautiful set by wfir here at Lucas Oil Stadium ahead of kickoff at the Big 10 championship game I’m Jordan Georgio alongside my crew here it’s Damen Harris Danny canel and Cardell Jones guys we’ve talked about it throughout the course of the day Dylan Gabriel most experienced quarterback in college football right now he is the veteran he has all of the ability to have those high risk High rewards big explosive BLS we’ve seen it before however Penn State’s defense has a ton of weapons that know how to get to a quarterback like Dylan Gabriel we’ll start with you Damen where do you think this match up Stacks up between Gabriel and this Penn State well again I’ll go back to the point I made earlier Penn State cannot show Dylan Gabriel something that he has not already seen can they challenge him absolutely they have the scheme they have the Personnel to do that and that’s when you have to lean on the Run game I’m going to say it again Jordan James has been outstanding he’s got over 1100 yard he’s got 13 touchdowns he’s averaging 6 yards per carry you have to lean on this guy because state is probably coming into this game thinking we have to slow down Dylan Gabriel we have to stop TZ Johnson we got to stop this explosive receiving for well that’s when you hand the ball off to your guy your bcal 510 20 210 lb back who has led the way for this team all season in my opinion he’s been the most consistent most productive guy on this offense outside of Dylan Gabriel so I think that Penn State can give Dylan Gabriel some problems because again they have the scheme they have the Personnel this is when you turn to the Run game and just chew up the clock chew up the yards Drive the ball down the field get to the Red Zone and then convert to points I know Dylan Gabriel I know what you were going to say if I said he’s the most prolific passer in college football history cuz you always go to the years that he’s played but I do remember he showed up at UCF as a freshman and lit up the country led the country in yardage per game then he’s good career there then he goes to Oklahoma last year leads a game-winning Drive in the Red River rivalry one of the biggest you know rivalries in the sport this year against Ohio state has his best Game of the Year my man steps up on the big stage like like that is not a concern for me but any good quarterback you can make look average with great defense and that’s going to be Tom Allen’s job just like you said Daman to try to throw the kitchen sink at him to try to keep him guessing to make him uncomfortable within that pocket because if you don’t he will pick you apart he’s accurate he makes great decisions that has to be priority number one for Penn State is to make him uncomfortable yeah you guys both hit it this has been a great pen State offensive line Dylan Gabriel is the least one of the least sack pressure and hit quarterbacks in all the college football and that’s due to the big guys up front and he’s still really good Under Pressure but Oregon they went into these games they went into Madison and have a do fight and leaned on that running game they closed it out at Ohio State coming up big on defense so like you said Daman he’s having he’s seen everything I think the Difference Maker is going to be how early and often you get hands on him and you got to do all game to make a huge difference absolutely with guys like Abdul Carter and and Danny um Dennis that we’ve talked about on the edges for Penn State do you anticipate Danny Dylan Gabriel getting the ball out a little bit quicker than usual knowing that he has The Playmakers around him to make a play yes he’s that’s one of his strong suits cuz he doesn’t have the biggest arm down the field but is knowing where to go with the football quickly the Quick Pass game is a big part of what will Stein does in this offense one of the reasons Cardell was talking about he doesn’t get hit very much because he doesn’t hold on to the ball too long the other thing that I would caution Penn State Dylan Gabriel can get it done with his legs I mentioned that Red River game from last year he rushed for over a 100 yards in the Ohio State game rushed for a lot of yards got outside the pocket they have to make sure they don’t let him do damage with his legs either but that Quick Pass game and I would tell them too if I’m Tom Allen in practice Dylan Gabriel’s not the biggest guy in the world if you can’t get to him bat the ball down like that is frustrating for a QB I I’d rather be like crushed after I get rid of the football and it goes for 20 30 yards then to not get touched at all and have the ball batted down cuz that’s worse it’s an incomplete entering this game you guys Penn State right now has the fourth overall Total Defense and six in scoring defense thanks to guys like Carter jison as we mentioned um Gabriel though has all the weapons around him especially in the passing game he got one of his top guys if not the top guy back last week against Washington and TZ Johnson but he has a whole room of receivers that he could lean on Cardell I’ll come to you with this one when you look at this receiving room for Oregon who or what really jumps off the page to you know what the amount of reception is by everybody he does a great job of spreading the ball out and that’s why I’m looking forward to this defensive match up because Oregon is one of the top offenses in the country and state is one of the top defenses in the country all around every majal category for both teams respectfully and it’s going to turn come down to who can limit the big plays we already know P they can do with Tye Warr on the other side the ball Dylan Gaber all the weapons he has every receiver has over 35 rece on they got to be up there with some the top of the country and all these guys got the ability to take it the differ the distance when the ball is in their hands absolutely I mean you saw nine touchdowns five touchdowns four three like not only these guys securing the ball they’re also making things happen with the ball in their hands they’re always in the right spot and when you have a quarterback like Dylan Gaber who’s so smart and knows where the ball needs to go at the right time you’ve got to be there and that’s where I think these receivers have done a phenomenal job of all year they’re always in the right spot at the right time if they want to run a go route well he’s their receivers T Johnson they’re stacking these DBS and they’re getting behind them if it needs to be a slant or a hitch for a possession catch they’re there so obviously Dylan Gabriel is doing a phenomenal job his receivers his offense his running backs on check Downs they are always in the right place at the right time so Willl Stein is doing a phenomenal job of getting everybody on the same Accord having all guys with the same plan and the same mindset in mind knowing where everybody’s going to be and that’s why they’re so efficient Danny as a quarterback how much stress does it take off of your shoulders no that you have a whole room of guys that you can trust go up and get the ball when you throw them it’s the best because then you could just go through your progressions then you can just trust the system you’re not worried about oh I got to for Speed the ball to TZ Johnson you’ve got a guy like Evan Stewart who was the big transfer from Texas A&M who’s probably Fallen a little bit short of expectations but in the Ohio State game again it was uh Tron Holden who was stepping up he got kicked out because he was spitting in the other dude’s face which hopefully he doesn’t do tonight but then you’ve also got a tight end to Terence Ferguson who’s really good I mean they roll deep across the board again when we started this show we talked about Oregon being one of the most complete teams in the country that’s exactly what I’m talking about don’t forget Jordan James if he’s not running the ball you can get screen game to him if State TKS bring pressure that’s something to keep an eye out for too because as a quarterback you see that pressure dialed up or if willstein a play caller you know if they’re all coming if you can bait them to come and get you with a quarterback and you just drop it right over the top to the running back all of a sudden there is a lot of field to run to yeah I think knowing how dangerous this Penn State pass rush has been against top 25 passing attacks you saw that against your Buckey oh no everyone’s been Scream the cardal pen State fans all over Lucas Oil Stadium are like thank you thank you so much um but I expect to see a lot from Jordan James today you guys as we get set to hit a break key to victory tonight for Oregon I’ll start with you Damen Dylan Gabriel’s got to be the same general that he’s been all season and the ground game has got to go those are my keys I think it’s protect him I think it’s you got to make sure Dylan Gabriel feels comfortable like he has been all season long you want to make sure he’s proteced in the pocket I’m going on the other side of the ball they got to identify where Tyler Warren is on every snap because you get him going he can be not a Difference Maker he can be a game wrecker on offense so identify Tyler War all right much more from us to come here on CBS Sport HQ we’re just getting started on college football pregame ahead of the Big 10 championship game here in Indianapolis more from us after a quick break Penn State back in Indie for for the Big 10 championship game for the first time since 2016 so what better person to break down what to expect from this nit Lions offense led by that guy Drew Allard [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] n he [Music] welcome back to CBS Sports HQ where Penn State is back in Indie for the Big 10 championship game for the first time since 2016 fans can thank that guy quarterback Drew Aller for helping get them to this point speaking of quarterbacks though the last guy that was under Center for Penn State the last time they won the Big 10 championship game was quarterback trace murly and Trace joins us live here on set under CBS Sports HQ set by Wayfair tra thanks so much for taking the time how are we doing is it bringing back all the memories of course yeah appreciate yeah definitely bringing back some memories uh it’s always good being back in here seeing all the Penn State fans packed in you know Penn State fans I’m sure have that one pass to Squan Barkley that ultimately got you guys winning the game just on replay and their had so many memories so many moments from that game but what do you always remember what do you always look to what will never you’ll never forget uh I mean it’s it’s hard not to say that play you know I mean that was the one that put us over the top um um but we we had a play earlier in that game we threw a you know double post concept to S blacknell over the middle and I just remember guys we’re talking about it timeout before do we call that do we call a run and our our coordinator like I’m calling the shot if you guys block this thing up it’s the touchdown and sure enough that’s how it played out and that was what really I think sparked the comeback for us yeah when you look at Drew Aller and you seen his development as a quarterback that was a big reason they brought it ay col Nicki right to develop the offense to be at the big play from him what have you seen in his development where he is right now coming in this game yeah I mean I think last year you were able to see how how smart he was he did put the ball in je he was really good at taking care of the football I think last year threw like one interception this year I’ve been really pleased to see a little bit of an edge come out to him a little bit of fire in his play and he’s firing guys up on the sideline I think that’s what he was lacking last year and that’s just him taking that next step as a leader so as he’s developed not just as a a passer and player but as a leader seeing him and now they’re playing the Big 10 where that leadership is really going to need to shine tonight do you guys have a relationship a little bit I mean he’s a quiet kid so it’s hard to get some stuff out of sometimes but U you know I’ve been able to CH chat with him a few times and you know when he needs help or he has a question he’s not afraid to speak up and ask it and he he’s just been a great kid he’s kind of like a sponge you know just trying to absorb as much information as he possibly can yeah when you talk about that fire when you talk about that leadership he’s on the biggest stage he’s ever been on in his young career you played here you won here the greatest hick Lions scoreback of all time if you and that coaching sty what are you telling J right now before he take the field hey I’m just telling him you prepared that that guy prepares like no one else I’ve ever seen you prepared enough when you step out on that field go play the game go play the game something things are going to go bad for you get past it flush it move on to the next one cuz at some point you’re going to need to make that play that’s going to win the game for us and it’s going to fall on your shoulders you’re the guy for us go out in there and do it I know one of the things he’s going to do is get the ball to Tyler Warren that dude has been incredible this is a place that has had a lot of great tight end play how impressed have you been with how versatile he is as a guy like he’s not your traditional tight end we talked about him taking Snaps at quarterback and Wildcat going under Center snapping it back and then going out for a pass what where does he stack up like in the great tight ends that have played at pen State yeah you know I I think you said the versatility he provides is so great for them in short yard situations they’re able to put him at quarterback is he going to run it he’s going to throw it he’s going to motion out and be a tight end receiver is he going to snap the ball I think the only position he hasn’t lined up at is guard this year but I mean I think what he’s able to do uh he’s done everything for this team he whenever they need to play he’s the guy that steps up and you know I think Oregon knows that so he he’ll step up he’ll do what he’s got to do I’m interested to see what other guys steps up and takes over this game tonight some other guys some other guys will I think going to have impact on this game some things I’d love to see Drew has been doing over this past year taking care of the ball being a little bit more uh a little bit more fire a little bit more uh aggressive at times and he’s also running the ball but B pabula great Runner great passer I expected to see him have his Mark in this game as some way somehow do you think he’s going to play this game yeah I mean they they know both such a great playmaker for them and when he gets on the field he’s the guy that can open things up he’s an explosive athlete really good he’s a playmaker for him and he also elevates the guys around him so I think they you know the coaches understand that he’ll have his opportunities to make his mark on this game um and you know they do a great balance of bringing him in but not taking Drew out of his rhythm you know this is um a fan base that travels so well these fans so happy to just be back in Indie the last time they were here you were the quarterback you guys ultimately went on to win the game but what does this appearance at the Big 10 championship game really mean to this fan base you had a chance you got in I’m assuming a few days ago correct you have some chance to talk with some of the fans yeah I I actually got in this afternoon so I yeah I wasn’t able to oh he’s in out okay I wasn’t able to talk too many guys but it’s awesome to see the the turnout that Penn State’s able to get and you from that from being at a point where most people probably weren’t expecting to be here in Indianapolis from who I have had a chance to talk to the second Ohio State lost they were buying tickets they were like we’re going we’re going and it wasn’t even solidified the pen state was gone that that’s just how excited they get so this means so much to be a for these fans to be able to be here in this game you know I think when we came in 16 no one really expected that out of us this team has has been a top top 10 team top five team for a long time this was always on the radar and and this is where I think these fans expect to be at every year so when they had the opportunity to be able to come back here and they jumped at it and they’re here in strong force tonight yeah we’ve talked so much and we were joking about this before cuz I’m annoyed by it I can only imagine what James Franklin is annoyed by it but James Franklin’s record against top five teams it’s not great and it’s been talked about a lot would this win help alleviate some of that criticism cuz even some of it comes from his fan base we went back to the Ohio state law when the fans were chirping at him and he went back and he was like defending himself tell but this opportunity to change that narrative what would that mean that would that silence some of the critics yeah it definitely would I mean any chance you get to get a big win against a you know number one team of the nation that that will silence those critics you know I think if anything it’ll just get the monkey off off his back from the fan side I know knowing him that’s not something that he thinks about all the time it’s you know he’s a one and0 mentality kind of guy almost a little bit over the top with it but um you know that he’s he’s a one and0 guy focused on what’s that task and he knows what the the task is this week and that task is bringing home some Hardware tonight all right as we get set to put a bow on this conversation it’s time now for home ritual brought to you by Wayfair Trace what was your game day ritual what were some of the pen teams you were on that you guys always did ahead of game day the week of game day um I I had a handful I was a superstitious kind of guy back then I ate I ate the same chicken parm from my same restaurant every Thursday night I put on the same pair of jeans Fridays I was a little over the top with it um but the two that always stuck with me were I had a undershirt that I wore from the time I was a freshman in high school that always rode with me and then I always like to eat Harbo gummies gummy bears right before the game that was just like a little little extra kick little little sugar little carbohydrates to get me going and you know from the time we go to our pregame meeting as a team I’d start eating those things and snacking on those and I would go back into halftime I’d eat them again like that that was always my thing the harryb gummy bears what about my other quarterbacks here what were your game day rituals Cardell nothing too crazy no that was a list that was a list I had one and I always had to wear white cleats that was it I always had to wear white cleats so I guess that was an ingame ritual but that was it I had the same pregame meal much like Trace I wore my high school undershirt just like trace the other thing I did though I was so like amped up you like nervous like I wanted to calm down so I listen to gospel music when I was going over the game plan just trying to chill out breathe like just relax and get right with the big man upstairs cuz I was like I want to feel good when I went into that cave that just kind of gave me a piece before I went out there in this Mayhem that’s football game all right so I didn’t play obviously but I’m at home watching the game so I’m comfortable at home in my big comfy chair Little P greo little Mario Margarita I don’t know but what I usually do I’m always firing off text to the group chat watching my seals asking this guy if he has another year of eligibility for us so that is my game ritual all right I know you can’t see the fans behind us but you can definitely hear them give these guys a we are we’ll see if we you still got it Trac let’s see let’s see if they go hey hear me hey we are we are we are thank you they they always show out I love it TR mly joining us here on CBS Sports HQ our college football pregame coverage continues here ahead of the Big 10 championship game before we go to break we got to let you [Applause] [Music] [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] HQ headline starting Major League Baseball shortstop Willie adamus has agreed to a 7-year $182 million contract to join the San Francisco Giants adamus is number six in CBS Sports ranking of MLB top 50 free agents now doas clubbed a career-high 32 homers and 112 RBIs for the Brewers last season and a reminder that the winter meetings start Sunday in Dallas the Orlando Magic will be without forward frons Vagner for at least the next four weeks Vagner is dealing with a torn oblique muscle which is a similar injury to the one that has kept Balo benero out of the lineup since October to the NFL where New York Jets running back Bree Hall has been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins Hall has been playing through a knee injury for the past few weeks the Jets also ruled out cornerback quantz sers while s Gardner remains doubtful the Seattle Seahawks have ruled out running back Kenneth Walker for Sunday’s game at Arizona because of a calf injury Walker is the team’s leading rusher with 542 yards and seven touchdowns on the year Zack shanet figures to get most of those carries with Walker sidelined but the news was better for Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase he’s officially off the injury report for Monday night’s game after being limited by ankle injury earlier this week the Bengals also ruled out left tackle Orlando Brown with a leg injury back here in CBS Sports HQ the countdown to kickoff from the Big 10 championship game here in Indianapolis continues as we show you a look at the latest college football playoff bracket as we enter Championship weekend in order to break all of this down for us we welcome to the show for the first time today our own Sportsline analyst McKenzie Brooks alongside our own Damen Harris and Danny canel I’m Jordan Georgio Ken great to see you how are we how really joined the crew I know we’ve been waiting for this moment I do want to begin with Oregon and and break it down for us what is the most favorable seed for the Oregon Ducks I think the most favorable seed overall is that 5C and I’ve said it all season it isn’t a glitch in the model like week after week your percent chance to win the national championship goes up when we compare you from that one seed to that five seed for Oregon they go from a 15% chance to win the national championship to an 18% and that sounds small but relative that’s a 33% increase right and I understand you’re looking at the risk of playing two games versus one but we start to set the lines in our own Sportsline model and see where we would make the spread if they played those two games against the Big 12 Conference winner now Arizona State and against Boise State you’re like minus 23- 18 in your first and second round if you’re Oregon you get gifted the winner of Tennessee Ohio State that’s the big gift for the one seed be a pickup in a neutral sight field against Ohio State again that is not a reward to me take the five seed all right so from a player’s perspective they know this right they’re in the locker room they’re talking about this how do you approach approach this game really I think you want to be the one team you’re orgon you want to have you want to be the number one team the heavyweight and the heavyweight championship bout but I will say this I think it’s interesting because this year we’ve seen more upsets than ever I would caution anybody who’s that five seed to feel overconfident because we’ve seen Boise State go Toe totoe with Oregon we saw Arizona State put a Smackdown in Iowa State today so all these games I think are going to be entertaining but from a purely power ranking standpoint that’s where it makes sense but I think any coach no matter where they’re slotted will try to spin it as this is our path this is what we need to do and they’re all just going to look at it one game at a time that’s just going to be how their mantras goes it’s how coaches work and all year long everything you do in the offseason training camp Spring ball it’s to be the best team and how do you show that by winning game after game winning Conference Championship winning national championships we live in a world where we give freedom to these guys where they can afford a loss here or a loss there no you want to be Top Dog I’m sorry kids I love the model I love the model listen but I also love competitive nature and wanting to be the absolute best in week one in week five in week 12 all the way through the cfp that’s what this game needs to be about that’s what all these games need to be about it’s the importance of playing game after game is the goal to go 1 and0 well tonight these teams need to go one and0 because they want to be the number one seed not only in the Big 10 but going into the cfp playoffs I also I know the way we put it now the way it’s projected that 5c looks favorable we still have gains like could throw a wrench in this then all of a sudden that five speed is a different matchup in round one maybe it’s Clemson which they haven’t been great but they still have a championship pedigree so I think that will be more entertaining when we finally see the actual bracket if it still remains that five seed is it somebody else maybe it’s a middle seed I think going be interesting to see where it shakes out when it’s all said and done all right so let’s talk about Penn State now if you’re one of the Penn State fans that are just surrounding us K which seed are you eyeing you know me I still think it’s the five seed and and here’s why I say I understand the bye you know there’s some advantage to that obviously you’re not playing to me everybody has the bye next weekend with that Army Navy game like everybody’s getting a chance to rest and if you’re not practicing at 100% are you really practicing so if you are hypothetically practicing while these other games in the first round are playing out you’re just as injury prone to me if you’re really practicing hard now clearly I play college football I don’t know if anyone at home knew that but I ask you guys too like is it adj just as injury prone to play each other in practice well whenever you get to the end of the season coaches obviously want to taper it down because of the fact that there’s so much mileage they play a long season you want to keep your guys fresh and healthy so it’s going to be about a lot of walkthroughs a lot of mental reps watching a lot of tape and playing the game up here as as opposed to putting the physical onus on your body so it could be having that buy that could be helpful because again again yes you do want to still practice hard you do still want to get the physicality and the Reps in but at the same time these coaches have to understand we’ve got to protect our guys especially going into the most important part of the season I still think the most favorable spot would be if you could get the five seed as a team that didn’t play in the conference Championship that’s what Penn State was on their way kiing their feet they were going to do that because notrees got their feet kicked up Tennessee Tennessee was the biggest winner got their feet kicked up right now yeah but they’re a little bit nervous but the thing that show you about injuries we’re sitting here we got eyes on the SEC Championship game we see what happens when you have to play Carson Beck went down with a nasty injury and he’s out for the game like shout out Henderson my god listen it’s Conference Championship weekend we’re here in Indianapolis but as you mentioned Danny down in Atlanta we’ve got a tied ball game at 16 and we are headed to overtime just your overall thoughts on this one defense has been dominant as you would expect in an SEC Championship game I mentioned the car backck injury with him going out gunar Stockton comes in a story to keep an eye on and oh my goodness McKenzie you better hope it doesn’t unfold this way because we saw the way Florida state was treated when Jordan Travis was hurt they kept him out of the playoff and I’ve been mocking you guys this whole time like what if Jennings goes down and they don’t put them in the playoffs story we know all too well I hope we don’t see eight more overtimes I can’t physically handle wellness check on our our former I’m sitting here like shaking in my boots guys they’re like oh it’s time for you to get off and I’m like I have a game Georgia has been here before recently we saw what happened in the Georgia Tech game this is just how we drew it up listen we even saw we even saw what happened in that Alabama game if they had one more one or two more drives another possession or two they might come out of that game so Georgia is Battle testing Kirby Smart has been through the trenches he’s One National Championship he’s gone to Georgia and built a Powerhouse program I don’t know why I’m hyping up Georgia right now because how I went to Alabama but at the end of the day kids stay calm cool and relaxed because Georgia has been here before the pressure right now the pressure right now going into overtime is on the University of Texas and Quinn ERS right now wow all right as we get set to say goodbye here um and hit a quick break we got to get a game pick for our game it’s a big 10 championship game it doesn’t get bigger than this it’s Oregon pen State who are you ready with I’m going with Penn State to pull off the upset we’re talking about defense we’re I love I love the under as well and I love that it’s at 51 and A2 cuz we I loved it at 50 and A2 I think or Penn State get this kind of freebie like Kenzie was saying they thought they were just in the five seat now they all of a sudden they have an opportunity to win a big 10 Championship when they thought their season was potentially shot after losing to Ohio State I know they thought they knew there get in the playoff but this is like a renewed mindset Oregon’s got more pressure on them and the other thing I think is going to play a factor the home field Oregon has not played in really tough game they played one against in Wisconsin against badison that was 16 to13 I think the crowd is going to play a big part of this game listen I think that the Redemption story for James Franklin would be wonderful I think it would be great for Penn State but I have to go with the team where I trust the head coach the most in these big games where I trust the quarterback the most where I trust the Run game and Oregon’s defense they don’t they’re not they’re not better than Penn State’s defense but they are good enough to complement this offense with all those points being made I have to take Oregon to over today lame lame lame with State the nitty Lions I like him outright the sports time model actually has them projected to win this game in 52% of simulation so if I can get the plus money I’m going to go with that here look I think this Penn State Defense will give Dylan Gabriel a hard time I think their pass rush will make him very very uncomfortable in this situation I think he’s prone to turn the ball over more than Allard we’ve seen tremendous improvement from Aller this season if I was back I don’t know if I’d be backing him this time last year truly but I think we have a rejected for Less turnovers I think Gabriel in the pressure this is going to be like a Wisconsin type game if I’m Penn State my game plan is to eat the clock is to keep that Oregon offense off the field is to be in you know third get three yards for carry I don’t care keep that team off the field and that’s why I think they can cover especially a three and a half we love to see a three and a half over a three that’s a Bucks County girl we know in love McKenzie Brooks all right we have to a quick break but countdown to kickoff it’s right around the corner I can’t believe it uh the Big 10 championship game getting set here at Lucas Oil Stadium Let’s help you win some money as we give you our Best Bets ahead of the game right here on CBS Sports HQ stay with us [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] we’re back here live from Indianapolis ahead of the Big 10 championship game it’s Oregon it’s Penn State I know we’ve been talking that it’s been a lot of 7030 Penn State fans but guys this place is electric Oregon fans are starting to show out here it’s time to lock in some bets and help you win some money so we’re going to go through some prop bets here which is so exciting we’ll start with your best Dylan Gabriel prop tonight oh I don’t Dylan Gabriel is going to like this one I think he’s due to throw an interception here okay he’s thrown an interception in three of his last four Road games 42% of his road games on his entire career which is a large sample size at this point he has thrown an interception this penate defense should give him pressure tonight they’ve collected 12 interceptions on the season big stage a lot at stake here I think it’s time for an interception o spicy well I think Dylan Gabriel is actually going to like my prop because I’m taking the over on Dylan Gabriel two total touchdowns listen he’s got the receiving go he has the weapons and Danny mentioned earlier he can get it done with his legs we seen him get in the end zone running the ball I think he goes over two touchdowns today hopefully it’s a Red Zone touchdown like for a little bit of yardage because my favor Dylan Gabriel prop is under his rushing total of 13 and 12 yards here’s why I think he’s going to get pressure tonight I know he doesn’t take a lot of sacks but I do think Tom Allen will have some blitzes dialed up his sleeve I think Abdul Carter will get and those count against that rushing total so I think he might rush for 20 or 30 yard but he’s going to have negative yardage that’s going to pull it back inside that number for a winner that was a juicy one I like it I’m here for all right let’s talk about the other quarterback best Drew Aller prop for tonight’s game against I don’t want this to sound like I don’t like Penn State tonight I just gave out their money line but I do not think it’s going to be on the back of Aller passing yards right so I’m going to take his under on the passing yards I really think this is a game you kind of attack it the way Wisconsin did right you stay on the the ground you eat the clock this is not exactly the most explosive offense we have seen in college football or will be in the playoffs so I just don’t think their game plan or their game script is to launch it through the air all night go ahead give me some Ken cuz we we’re right online man in model strike again I’m going under Drew Aller total touchdown excuse me passing touchdowns he doesn’t have the weapons the receivers have not shown up all year I think that if I’m Oregon I have all eyes on Tyler Warren the entire game look to eliminate him for being a factor so what does that mean they’re going to lean on Nick Singleton KRON Allen and try to run the ball like keny said earlier control the clock keep the ball out of Oregon’s hands so I think it’s going to be hard to hit that uh that touchdown passing touchdown totem I’m glad Trace mle’s gone because we’re all Throwing Shade at his you know quarterback for Penn State Ken and I did not plan this I’m on the same page as McKenzie we are a lock step which is a rarity this season so I don’t know what it means first time ever yes I’m on his under passing yardage total as well 200 a half yards again it doesn’t mean they can’t win the game I just don’t think it’s what they want him to do not at all right and I me you want him to be efficient you want him to be what he’s been all season long the one thing that scares me is if Tyler Warren goes off but I think Oregon’s going to have a pretty solid game plan for that I think it’s going to be run based with Nick Singleton KRON Allen efficient from Drew Aller if it’s a shootout I think they lose and you already know where I’m going with the pick so I think it’ll be a lower scoring game and Drew all’s production is kept in check all right last one for you for your pick to score the first touchdown this game it sounds a little counterintuitive but I do think the value is on Tyler Warren here and that’s because he’s kind of like a less fragile Taste of Hill to me like he could be tush pushed in he could be a running back for all we know like there’s multiple ways for him to get into the end zone they use him very creative ways so anytime I see a player that has you know multiple ways he can get into the end zone that’s typically where I’m going to go for the value play so I like him for the first touchdown okay okay I’m going with Oregon wide receiver TZ Johnson he has been a stud all season long he’s got nine touchdowns on the year he’s been Dylan Gabriel’s security blanket whether it’s big shots in the passing game whether it’s possession catches on third down I think he’s going to be the guy to open the top on this game today I think McKenzie cheated a lot in college so I think she was cheating on my answers because we are on again we’re on the same exact page I am as well you’re the one always stealing my I put them in well your record is better so it’s not like he’s cheating off of you you are the last person I want to he Che Al when it comes to betting he is the ultimate Red Zone weapon and if you remember the game they lost against Ohio State one of the criticisms that everyone had was they didn’t go to Tyler Warren early enough they tried to run it right up the middle twice and then when it was too late they tried to throw up a little pass to him I think they’re going to get him the ball early and make sure it’s a point especially if they get that opportunity so I like that value all right guys we’re getting closer and closer to kickoff all the the it’s a battle of the B almost it’s a battle of the B oh it’s getting dicey up there all right dial it in we’re dialed in because we got one more I need from you all right it’s time to leave it put it all on the line your best bet overall for tonight’s Big 10 championship game it’s pen State it’s the NY lines for me plus the three and a half if you want to take the money line I don’t judge great value with a little money line sprinkle there as well I just think that’s too many points for any type of you know competitive game like this in Conference Championship weekend I think they will end up matching up really well I think this defense will be physical and match up with this Oregon offense as well I see a really clean game from Aller not so much from Dylan Gabriel I’m taking the under on points today 51 and A2 yeah I like that 51 and A2 listen we’ve talked about how this is going to be a defensive match we’ve talked about how the Run game is going to be it like Paramount for both teams all of that that recipe right there is for a lows scoring game can’t wait to see it give me some OJ give me some with them gloves on inside inside we are the same exact thinking I’m on the under as well defense dominates they shine they’re going to get a t all right that’ll do it for us here on CBS Sports HQ the national anthem is playing and there is nothing like the big 10 championship game thanks so much for joining us here the past hour we will have live postgame coverage here on CBS Sports HQ from McKenzie Damen Danny Cardell Trace murly our entire production crew I’m Jordan Georgio enjoy the game everybody [Music]
