program yes Kyle we’re ready to roll is that the indoor facility just off the point of that hill right there yep yep that’s the roof of it yep that’s the roof right there man this is a great view up here fifth floor of Maverick Stadium and the new Press Box I guess can you even call it new what how many years is it uh 16 was the first year so it’s coming up on 10 years now that is insane yeah I can’t believe it’s it’s been that long still beautiful though oh yeah I’ve been in a lot of different press boxes over the last two years and this thing holds up as nice as any that I’ve been in yep I mean actually I one thing that’s always kind of surprised me some of these stadiums we go to you think they’re going to have super nice press boxes and they don’t they don’t now they have good sweets for donors and stuff but in terms of the press and radio and stuff sometimes it can be a just a horrible situation but here I love I love calling a game here because you’re up high but yet you’re not that high like at the University of Utah which has one of the nicest press boxes in the country um but calling a game there can be a little difficult because you’re way high you’re up there you’re up there at L valb Stadium yeah but here you’ve got a great view good panoramic view you’re not that high where you need binoculars every single play uh it’s just a nice nice setup man this is the booth you call from this is right here coaches are right where it all happens coaches are here they try to block this out but we can still see them yeah well this is a a beautiful view and excited uh for those of you that missed the Bronco minute Hall conversation it’s going to be worth your time doesn’t matter if you’re BYU Utah Utah State fan we talked a lot of college football with Bronco about 30 minutes worth and it was all very insightful yeah uh what and Bronco every now and then kind of lets you behind the curtains as to what makes him tick and I think he got a good vibe of that today about what really motivates Bronco menal who’s been so closed off for so many years but uh opened uh opened up a little bit today I think it all boils down to it it’s his immediate family yeah it’s his boys and his wife mhm I think that’s it and then it starts to tentacle out a little bit to his players and former players but I think 90% 92% of the decisions he makes is based off of how Holly and the boys feel yeah don’t you yep I agree wholeheartedly which I don’t wrong him for that in fact I find it commendable because you and I are two men that do everything we can to please our wives make sure that they’re happy in life well and especially when he talked about being an empty nester and you get to a point where you start to realize wait a minute like what have what have been my priorities and should I take a step back and that’s why he took two years off not because Holly told him to because he felt like he wasn’t as good of a husband as he should have been and didn’t give her a deliver on the promise to get her a ranch in Montana like she wanted and so he’s like you know what we’re at a point now the kids are all graduated let’s go get you that ranch he brought that up in the beginning of the conversation and another detail that he pointed out he said I promised her that when we got married yeah and he said so I started to look at that like here we are out in Virginia away from her family away from home I never bought her that ranch I told her I would I’ve got $22 million sitting in a bank account right now what am I doing how much have I done for her and I do the same you know I always promised Amanda that I’d get her close to a beach and I’m doing everything I can you know like bought a couple houses in Florida and trying to get her back to a beach because that that’s the way she grew up MH and I promised her when when we were dating I was like I’ll get you I I’ll be F we’ll be fine I’m gonna be an NFL guy I lied to her so hard but she bought the LIE hey that’s that’s the most important thing now I’m just trying to make up for the lie that’s all hey uh So speaking of coaches is Kyle Whittingham with the announcement I’m back I’ll be back for another year um you and I kind of felt like that was going to be the case all along um particularly you were felt really comfortable with that but it just felt like it took a while to get to that and you wonder if there was how much back and forth Kyle went before he finally pulled the trigger on coming back for another year and what exactly he was waiting for in that announcement because I I have felt like he was going to be back pretty much all along I felt like he’d be back yeah he had un unanswered business unfinished business that he wanted to probably finish but the longer it drew out the more I was like maybe I’m off because recruiting season and nil day or nli day and transfer portal potentials that I’m thinking man you you want to be solidly in place and let the entire world know k a going ain’t going anywhere yeah and I’m going to make sure that we are in going in the right direction so I was a little bit curious about that but to me it’s great news it’s great news Kyle’s back and it should be great news to the University of Utah their fan base because we have seen a portal open up and we’re seeing a lot of damage be done we’ve seen an offensive coaching staff open up and we’ve seen a lot of problems and now we’ve got a lot of answers we got more answers right now than we got questions and the answers are Jason Beck Jim Harding Freddy Whittingham the answers are uh portal players that have gone into the portal from New Mexico quarterback running back potential receiver maybe those are some of the answers cam Rising still question but I think that’s a question that’s going to get answered pretty quickly here and then we’ve got answers to the question of all right well what about Isaac Wilson Brandon Rose Sam hu we got answer to all of those they’re all in the portal so we we know what the situations are now we know what the landscape is ky winning is head Ham’s head coach Jason Beck is offensive coordinator offensive staff remains largely in place it looks like KY Demmer is going to come in and be quarterback’s coach at least that’s what he’s got listed on his Twitter profile so I know that’s the situation now I go to my New Mexico quarterback and I say you ready to do this on the uh Power for scale you ready to do this for the University of Utah do you feel like we can imple Implement what we were doing in New Mexico rebuild some of those aspects here along with the touch of Jim Harding and find the offense and so at least Scotty I feel like things are settling in yes I I don’t have that anxiety that I had two weeks ago and uh you know look I always have anxiety when I look at a team and there’s uncertainty a quarterback and I think we all assume that Devon dampier will end up as a member of the University of Utah football team coming with Jason Beck from New Mexico uh look I called a game of his I watched a bunch of games of his this year uh the kid is super young he’s super raw and the ceiling is in my opinion really high for him I think there’s a chance that he could do some really really good things two years of Eligibility left I believe so yeah yep he was a sophomore last year I don’t know if there’s another if there’s a red shirt available for him or not I know he played some as a freshman uh but I don’t know how much he played as a freshman and if that red shirt year but honestly you’re not bringing Devon dampier into red Shir him you’re bringing him into play and be an immediate impact right away and if I’m a quarterback in the transfer portal I’m taking a long hard look at Utah right now because they’ve got holes in that quarterback room that you can drive a truck through the Isaac Wilson decision surprising to you at all I think when you look at it big picture-wise it doesn’t necessarily surprise me um but it also is a little bit of a shot into the one issue you could look at in the long and storied Hall of Fame build a statue name the stadium after him career of Kyle Whittingham the one thing you could look at is oh you wish there was a better lineage of quarterbacks there that’s it that’s it and and that’s not a knock it’s not a shot I’m just saying that’s the one thing that Kyle Winningham has got to look at and say gosh dang it I wish I had a better lineage of quarterbacks coming through and and there’s another one where Isaac Wilson a kid who came in one of the more highly recruited kids and he’s one and done so I have a very solid gut feeling that Utah is doing everything they can to retain Isaac Wilson my gut is telling me so you’re saying don’t close the door on that yet yes my gut is telling me that they are going to put together a very good business plan and present it to him and say this is how we see things going with Jason Beck now I think that that business plan would probably be largely predicated upon Dan Pier his commitment his potential and what you see him being as a university Utah quarterback but and I think on both ends both Utah and Isaac Wilson’s but I have to believe that the University of Utah is in their ear is in Isaac’s ear saying hey it’s not done it’s not over oh yeah how’s it not done how is it not over you benched me you you threw me into a season that I was supposed to be a true freshman I was supposed to be the Jordan love behind a four-time MVP quarterback I was supposed to have the luxury and the existence of learning from the best to ever play at this University and I get thrown into the mix and then I get benched and then I have a coordinator leave on me and I’ve got all this how do you see this going for me well son this is how we see it going for you let me introduce you to Jason Beck he is an Innovative upand cominging offensive coordinator and he’s got a vision for you okay well what Vision does he have for me well let’s sit down and let’s show you what the vision is he sees you as a day one starter he sees you as a multitude to a quarterback he he believes that you can run better that you can throw better and this is how he’s going to get you to run better and throw better this is how this is how we’re going to get production out of you and we’re going to turn you into a draft pick why because Jason Beck’s got three quarterbacks under his toage that have had four plus years of experience in the NFL so this is how we’re going to do it for you oh yeah well it didn’t go so well the first time well the first time our hands are kind of tied yeah the first time you know we were more dictating to Andy lwig then Andy lwig was dictating to us but we’re going to open up the gates for you yeah well that you can make a bunch of empty promises I I don’t see that happening it will happen and this is how it’s going to happen and you got to make a real you got to put together a real business plan and present it to him I’ve seen a lot of trash going around about Isaac Wilson and Utah fans some haven’t handled it well some have I’m hoping that he doesn’t have any of that open to him yeah you know I’m hoping that what the only the only thing he needs to have in his ear the only thing there’s two his dad who’s very intelligent and this coaching staff that’s it and and if I can’t do it with those if I can’t make a two a good decision with those two in my ear and and I’m letting the other things get to me well the Utah fans that they didn’t appreciate what I put in the Utah fans seem like they’re more excited that I’m leaving the Utah fans do this that and the other don’t worry about them they’ll be back on the Isaac Wilson bandwagon the second you throw a completion oh yeah and I can’t remember what is their first game out of the gates next year don’t they have uh they going FCS out of the gate yeah I’m trying to remember the first game they got out of the gates and good question and I’m trying to remember they they’ve got a uh it looks like it is was it Wisconsin was it Wisconsin UCLA UCLA Rose okay and then Cal paully yep and and what’s their third non-conference they’re going to laramy are they going to laramy yeah you sure you don’t have BYU’s 2024 up NOP 2025 you they are going to lar me yeah September 13th War Memorial Stadium is will they have the new Booth up there cuz I know they were tearing down that Booth you and I sat in uh I sure hope so for Utah well anyways you know I I hope that that it would be the very first completion and the very first win against UCLA and everybody would be back right back in your corner Bud well so I I guess I’m kind of talking to Isaac a bit and maybe talking to his dad a bit I just I just worry today that in today’s age these kids almost can’t quiet the noise it’s almost impossible and I’ve noticed it with you and I O over the years about five or six years ago I went to Great Lengths to quiet the noise that that was getting to me on how people perceive me as an analyst or how people perceive me as a radio host or how people perceive me as a husband or a father or or too many people had access to give their opinion of me to me mhm and I I did the best I could by you know eliminating a certain amount of email access or direct message access or Facebook access or Twitter access to the point where if I feel like it’s personal I’ll block it and I do it without hesitation because I don’t want you to have access to me but it’s impossible for for me to completely control the noise that’s how it is for kids as much as I’ve tried to help my son understand that the noise is just that it’s noise it’s noise of haters it’s noise of jealousy it’s noise of faceless individuals that don’t matter the noise still gets there and what I’m hoping with Isaac is that he’s been able to eliminate the noise because when it settles and he and Jason Beck have a camp together and they show up at UCLA with their game plan and they and they’re able to kind of pull the rins off a little bit and go have some fun offensively with a defense that compliments it and they go beat UCLA that noise doesn’t matter and then I would tell Isaac on the other end when that noise grows of excitement eliminate that too yeah shut that down too don’t sit there and feast on that and get your ego going because that noise is as Hollow as the negative noise yeah so let me ask the hard question here because you want Isaac Wilson to return because you need depth a quarterback frankly I mean you’re losing a lot and you know there’s some reports rolling around that even if Cam Rising comes back to play another year at college football it won’t be at the University of Utah so you need to fill up that quarterback room so you would like to bring Isaac Wilson back but is Isaac Wilson from what you saw in year number one worth putting together that extensive game plan in terms of or that business plan that you talked about is it worth investing more money in nil is it worth doing all of these things that you may have to go through to woo him back to the University of Utah I mean frankly is like Wilson worth it okay from just a field perspective that’s what I’m talking about because I don’t I’m not talking about PR any of that because I don’t know who he is yeah I don’t know what he is in a locker room I have no idea how he is with coaches or how he is with teammates I don’t know how his teammates perceive him and that might not matter right now because pretty much the entire team’s in the portal and headed out anyways you’ve seen all the receivers and you’ve seen running backs and you know guys are guys are they’re in the portal so Utah’s not only trying to figure out what’s going on with Isaac but there’s there’s a lot of room to grow and there’s going to be a lot of open spots and possibilities but if I just eliminate that because I just don’t know I’m hoping that he’s a positive influence I’m hoping he controls a locker room I’m hoping that he does have the eyes of his teammates and the respect of his teammates now if he’s got that let’s just say he’s got that then he’s absolutely worth it there’s things that he can clean up on the field and and I as as much as I want to blame Isaac I think that there was a limited set offensively and as much as I reflect back on the season that they just went through the the more I reflect on maybe it was as there were some coaching issues yeah the kid had his faults but there were coaching issues and there were play calling issues and so I’m not pining it as much as on Isaac as let’s say Andy lwig was back this year what I would be talking to you right now about is Andy’s got a restructure himself and he’s got to figure out how to draw out the mobility of Isaac Wilson how to draw out the cre creativity of Isaac Wilson while not limiting him because you’re making him afraid of turnovers to the point where he’s paralyzed when he takes the snap because oh my gosh if I do another one I’m going to come to the sideline and they’re going to they’re going to chop my head off I I’ll never see the field again you know to to not paralyze him but enable him to make that decision with confidence and and not feel like everything’s on the line because he’s just a baby he’s a true freshman you can’t do that to true freshman and that’s the problem when you took him off the field and you started Brandon Rose you told that true freshman I don’t care how much of a baby you are we’re not doing that well if you would have just fought through that with him the sophomore year he’d have been like that that doesn’t matter I’m going to go out there and sling and the singing would have been more accurate and more confident so somehow you got to bring him in and repair that repair it with the new offensive coordinator if Coy Demmer is the quarterback’s coach repair it with Coy Detmer and and say hey man we’ve got a deep lineage of quarterback ability and and this is how we see you f in it as far as the skill set I’ve seen the kid play a high school level and I’ve seen the kid make throws that are incredible so I would say as long as he’s not broken and as long as he’s not a locker room distraction he’s absolutely worth it yeah th% he’s worth every bit of penny that you draw up because there’s also a bit of image that’s sitting in with Kyle winingham in the University of Utah you want him back and you want him to be great so you can say see we identified him young we did go through some hard times we figured it out we made the coaching change to figure it out and now look he’s an all Big 12 Honore as a junior and he’s projected as a first maybe second round draft pick with his potential because we maxed it out so there’s a bit of redemption for Kyle in the University of Utah to make that happened too and I do think that it’s in him physically it is going to take it and it’s I do think it’s going to take a new coordinator and a new quarterback’s coach y that calls him and says hey man this is how we see it going H and Scotty it is uh 2:30 up and down the wasat front Tennessee at Ohio State Ohio State is a seveno favorite so out of the four games you don’t have any game that is closer on a on a spread than a touchdown somebody is going to cover for your underdogs and either win outright or make a game out of it whether it be Indiana against Notre Dame SMU against Penn State Clemson against Texas or Tennessee against Ohio State I sent this question out on Twitter yesterday who do you think is at least one team that’s the underdog that at least covers and makes a game out of it in 11 days we are going to watch Indiana beat Notre Dame yes sir I love it that’s where I was going to go too in 11 days we’re going to watch Indiana beat Notre Dame I actually think SMU can cover against Penn State I don’t think SMU beats Penn State but I think they can certainly cover against Penn State you I don’t think they beat him either but they they can make a game out of it I see I see the other three going chock but I do think Indiana beats Notre Dame Notre Dame they you know they’re their their schedule they beat Texas A&M to start the season they got the wins over the service they beat Navy and Army and again I I know that there were some good moments but it’s Navy and army you should beat them and I know that they were having good Seasons yeah but you should beat them USC was USC was in a really bad year um they did beat a Georgia Tech team that had a great win at the back end of the season but I don’t know really how good Georgia Tech and Louisville are so I look at Notre Dam and think it’s the most untested team out of any of them and Indiana got a a real reality check against Ohio State now the first part of that game they were in it they were feeling pretty good and I thought geez they might get this this win over Ohio State now Ohio State made a move on them and got going but they finished out the season with I think that they had Purdue beat within the first eight minutes of that game it ended up 66 nothing but you know that game was over so and it should be because Purdue is one of the worst teams in the country who did Purdue just have they just hired uh uh they’re going after Barry odm Barry Odum I don’t know if it’s done or not but it’s close I think it is done actually what do you think about Frost coming back to UCF uh I think that’s a good fit I think it’s a sometimes you pretty excited to go back yeah sometimes you can’t go back home again um and sometimes that doesn’t work and then sometimes you know look you look at uh who was the guy at Kansas State um who was the legendary coach who came back and got him turned right back around again so uh I think it’s a good fit for him and I think it’s a good fit for UCF so but I I actually like a lot of things about Indiana I’m not saying that they’re the most tested the most battle tested but they did take on Nebraska Washington Michigan State Michigan and that win against Michigan was a really good win for Indiana yeah so give me Indiana not just to cover but I’d take them as the as the winner out of that one by the way you and I will be calling the uh Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and as you predicted last week Northern Illinois and Fresno State yeah we get that Northern Illinois team that beat Notre Dame Notre Dame the team we’re talking about that was a bad loss for Notre Dame it was their only loss yeah but it was a bad loss all right Lloyd spin it Paul Pierce thinks this was soft so uh you know I’m I’m watching NFL yesterday and I see Aiden oconnell get carded off the field and I’m thinking oh my gosh what just happened here this kid is just you know he tore his knee he’s done for the year it’s a bone bruise and he’s expected to be back in the lineup next week by the way cheap shot from Tampa Bay don’t don’t disagree with that cheap shot but when I saw the video I was like what that doesn’t look that bad like like it’s a cheap shot but it doesn’t look like he planted weird it didn’t I’m like that looks looked pretty harmless like just he tucked and rolled and yet needed to be carded off and aircast did he not have an aircast I think he had an aircast and it was a bone bruise and he’s back H you’re Raiders man I think I think he was hopeful that he would be out of the lineup in fact actually he might be Mark Davis might be very upset that he hey we we need you not in the lineup cuz we can’t be winning what are you doing and maybe they maybe the Raiders did that in hopes that uh that they would be able to uh get him off the field guys my knee feels wrong right if it’s it’s okay it feels fine no it’s not three-point games for the last six weeks and and they manag these garbage games down to a 1917 win with a field goal and a final drive and they did it against again against San Diego they dink in a game-winning field goal doink it in and the for the division so so by the way great call uh I can’t I don’t remember who was calling that game but he nailed it just absolutely did a tremendous job um but I’m watching that and I got my 13-year-old son who hates the Chiefs because he’s a Die Hard Broncos fan he’s like I can’t believe they w’t get they’re gonna win the Super Bowl because everybody wants him to win and and they just get lucky every week and I’m like you know what sometimes you keep making withdrawals from the lucky band and it’s going bite you and you’re not putting any deposits in it can get you in the playoffs like nobody touching them in the playoffs I’m like I don’t know but look at this schedule to finish they finished with the Browns the Texans the Steelers and then they got your Broncos to finish the season but and look they’ve won the division they’ll probably have HomeField it I’m just saying it wouldn’t surprise me if that luck finally dries up in the playoffs for him against the Broncos by the way stop it no I’m serious I’m dead serious that the that Broncos team has everything going for it right now uh not really but they have a chance to so you’re just downplaying it you need to stop you need to get on board or this Train’s going to leave you behind speaking of leaving behind I thought Travis Kelce was way behind in receptions in yardage but he’s not so tra Kelsey made a run of one two three four five six seven years going over a thousand yards yeah and averaging right about 136 140 receptions then 2023 was the first time in seven years that he was under a th finished 984 yards and right now he’s pacing to to go well what are they four games left four games left he’s at he’s at 107 receptions and 682 yards that’s doable well that’s very doable he’s going to have to average 100 yards just under 100 yards to get himself to the thousand yard mark his touchdowns are down he’s only got two touchdowns on the season His Highest touchdown output was 2022 with 12 2020 was 11 but you got to remember every one of these Seasons comes with you know a Full Slate of postseason yeah all the way to the championship game yeah but I thought Travis was having a Down Season not really well maybe with touchdowns but uh maybe the t- Swizzle Factor hasn’t played as much of a role as we thought it did though he looks like he’s just given up on life he he do doesn’t he he looks Hefty maybe he’ll be an offensive tackle move was like he just doesn’t even look like he cares anymore well you put him next to his brother and say which one’s the offensive lineman right now you’d say it was Travis cuz older brother’s kind of slim down those big baggy jeans that he was wearing when he would come into the games they actually fit tight this year than Isaac Wilson did why was Isaac qb2 why didn’t they go to one of these guys earlier in the season I don’t believe it I don’t believe it I don’t believe that there’s a conspiracy there that they were like I don’t think it’s conspiracy at all I think they just chose Isaac as qb2 and that’s how it was I think the reason they chose maybe he is a little bit of a spring and fall football Warrior like a fall Camp guy maybe it was a Charlie Brewer situation you’re like no he looked like he won the the job why would they have wanted to put Isaac Wilson in there prematurely if he wasn’t punting let’s go on to something else oh the great a situational hunting a is hanging out with us does such a tremendous job engineering these Utah State Games and keeping us on the air and was kind situational punting got all these a punters coming into the game how are we using them oh man the one time I show up late to a coach the only time I’ve showed up late to a coach’s show got stuck in the worst traffic on I-15 and I’m calling a I’m like a because we have to start at a specific time like we can’t like oh play another four minutes commercials or anything like that because when you got the network you got to start right at this exact time and so I’m like a buddy I’m in a bind I gotta you got to got to start the show for me I’m not that far behind but you got to start the show he’s like I got it and uh Utah state had just beaten I don’t know some division or FCS team like 64 to3 did not punt in that game like Northern Arizona or something like that something like that and it was and he starts out with Coach let’s start off with punting what how do what do you do you know you’re four you’re fourth and eight Maybe not maybe not in this game but in other games yeah four hey we’re just looking ahead that’s all I’m just trying to help you prepare yeah for that moment when maybe you do find yourself in a predicament and you know do do you do you punt it’s the best oh man it’s the best it’s the best question I think I’ve ever heard asked and I know you know you were a grown man and you took full account ability and you were like look this is on me I was late I created this and I know you were kind with a you got there and you peacefully asked him a I’m here can I you barely barely grabbed the headset nicely off of it in fact I think you said Co you hand me audio of it just a just a nice crashing blow yeah I I I tore into that restaurant at about 80 mil an hour broke every speeding law known to man parked illegally and sprinted in there as fast as well I get you say I briskly walked into this into the restaurant and all you did was simply punt a off of the headset yeah that’s all it was a situational I situationally replaced the host well remember that’s coming off the back end of the Christmas picture he sent us of him naked in a cloth hamper where was the weather report in all of this uh weather report was that that year too that was a crazy year oh boy naked in a Clos hamper weather reports I feel bad about I still feel bad about the weather report that wasn’t one of my finer moments a is a legendary member of the Hansen Scotty yes he is
