is this the end of Rafael De at third base for [Applause] Boston what is going on everybody welcome back to red seat radio my name is Corbin in today’s video we’re going over the latest news/ reports surrounding the Red Sox including the potential of the socks moving rapael Des off of third base and the latest on the woto Saga thank you all very much for clicking on this one let’s get into it okay so I think we need to start with the Rafael Des reports because this is in my opinion the bigger conversation right now although it isn’t a new one there have been conversations amongst Red Sox fans specifically about the idea of moving Rafael Des off of Third Base basically before the off season even began the reason we’re talking about it today though is because over the weekend we got our first kind of legitimate report that the Red Sox are at least considering this possibility as well because yesterday Sean McAdam of Mass life put out an article in which he reported that quote there has been some internal talk about moving Rafael De off of Third Base at some point and Nolan arado is viewed as a potential Plan B and there is a ton to unpack in just this one simple sentence here because this is kind of big news it’s not like the Red Sox can move Rafael Des off of third base and into left field or second base or make him some sort of utility man right if Rafael Des were to move off of first base it’s really only two one of two positions that is either first base or DH and in my opinion there are pretty big complications that come with either of these moves breaking it down a little bit further looking at the DH pos position possibility first I on the surface don’t really have a problem with rafy moving to DH I know a lot of people look at the contract and the money that he’s paid and say you absolutely cannot pay a DH that much money but at the same time too we all kind of understand that Rafael Des was not paid because of his potential with his glove he was paid for the potential he has with his Bat right that’s just at the end of the day as simple as it gets he’s paid to be one of the top hitters in Major League Baseball he can absolutely do that at the DH position I don’t think it’s ridiculous to think that Rafel Des could be a DH going forward with the money that you’re paying him but that’s not the reason I don’t know if Rafel Des at DH works the reason I don’t know if it works is because of two different complications the first one is that obviously you are going to have to move masaki Yoshida it’s just simply not feasible to have two full-time DHS on your team now we’ve talked about the potential of trading Masa this entire offseason I do think it’s something the Red Sox are going to try and do come 2025 I think it’s something they’re trying to do right now but it’s not going to be easy trading masaki yoshida’s contract is going to be a bit of a difficult one to move and it’s going to have to take essentially a perfect storm to get that done so right off the bat it’s going to be difficult to fit Rael de into the everyday lineup if your plan is to move him to DH you have to get rid of masaki yoshita the second reason I think there’s a complication here is because I don’t know if it’s in the Red Sox best interest to sort of cement the DH position for what the next nine years of this team and it’s because both Alex cor and Craig breslo don’t love the idea of having a solidified DH now we as Red Sox fans obviously don’t hate that idea we’ve had a history of absolutely fantastic full-time d is here the face of the Red Sox franchise possibly until the end of time was a full-time DH however you can also fit a lot more Talent on this roster or in your everyday lineup if that DH position is fluid we’ve gone over this a ton of times but just to reiterate if you have a guy like Christian Campbell who can play a whole lot of different positions and you want to put him in to this lineup every single day having that DH slot open really allows you to do that while also still promoting guys like myself and Roman Anthony so I don’t know if having a solidified DH is really the answer to the Red Sox problems the other option here is putting him at first base and there there is one major complication right and that is that you kind of already have a first Bas been locked up for the next few years in Tristan CES the real only way that the Red Sox can make Rafael De at first base work is if you are willing to trade Tristan CES I guess unless they’re also willing to do sort of a half and half where Tristan’s half full-time DH rafy’s half full-time DH I don’t love that idea I don’t love putting 24-year-old Tristan casus in a position where his only value is at the plate I understand his defense has not been very good but the potential to be good defensively is there for Triston I don’t know if that makes a ton of sense for the Boston Red Sox I’ve gone over multiple times now why I don’t think trading Tristen cus makes sense for this Red Sox team there’s a full video breakdown I’m going to put it basically right here on the video that you can watch if you want the full breakdown but just simply in one sentence I think the Red Sox can get what they want if they are looking to achieve something big on the trade market without at the bare minimum creating a depth issue at a position that they’ve really had depth issues at for the last few years in that first base slot moving Rael deis over to first base also puts him in an entirely new position I understand that there have been success stories of third basem turning into first basem but those were also really good defensive thir basem for the most part it is similar positions but there’s a whole lot of new things Rafel Des needs to learn you don’t really you don’t really notice a solid everyday first baseman but you really notice a bad first baseman I.E franie Cordo for the Red Sox and I just don’t know if Rafael De would be a good everyday first baseman for this Red Sox team that’s a big if that the Red Sox would have coming into 2025 when they could just simply keep him at their base I think I go through this sort of conversation the more we have this conversation the more news starts to come out about this idea of moving Rafael Des off of Third Base especially for an aging statistically declining veteran like Nolan Aeron or even an Alex bregman and I just don’t really understand it outside of making a move to just simply make a move right because that’s sort of what this feels like how much better is this Red Sox team going to be with a Nolan Aeron for 2 years than it would be if they just kept Rafel des and went out and got a teoscar Hernandez or a Tyler O’Neal or promoted Christian Campbell or a Marcel meire right I just think there are better options on the market right now for what the Red Sox are looking to do and that’s not necessarily to say that I think Rafael deis needs to stay at third base again you’re not paying him for his defensive abilities you’re paying him for his offensive abilities eventually he is going to need to move over into that d8 spot it’s just what the future is going to hold for Rafal deis but also does it need to be at 28 29 years old I don’t know if it necessarily has to be that way right the Red Sox did win a World Series with Rafael Des playing 121 games at third base it’s not like they can’t win with him over there at the hot corner and that to me is the biggest thing here if the Red Sox are looking to move Rafael Des off of Third Base it kind of has to be for a perfect situation and I don’t know if Nolan arado or Alex bregman is that perfect situation we’ve seen them connected to both of these guys now and I just simply think it feels like a move to make a move it feels like something that they just simply make to say look guys we did something this is going to improve our roster when there are in my opinion much more pressing needs the Red Sox need to take a hold of I think they absolutely should be focusing on top of the rotation pitching I think they absolutely should be focusing on improving their Bullpen and yes they are going to need a right-handed bat but I think there are options that make more sense for what the Red Sox are trying to do offensively than going after an Aeron or a bregman especially with their declining statistics and especially with the ages attached to them and obviously the money attached to them as well I just every single time we talk about this I move more and more into the camp of Rafa de should just stay at third base again the Red Sox have been competitive with him before the Red Sox can be competitive with him again at third base it’s not the worst idea to move him to DH but I just think the perfect storm needs to happen to make that a reality I just simply don’t know if I understand moving Rafel Des off a third base especially for a Nolan Aeron now I will say it doesn’t seem like this is plan a for the Red Sox it doesn’t really feel like this is something that the Red Sox are really looking to do in the immediate future like this is their okay immediate plans for the off season this is the way we’re going to go this sort of kind of sounds like the Red Sox plan C or D now as Shan McAdam described it as a plan B to go after Nolan Aon that to me is sort of hey if plan A B and C don’t work out and that that would probably be wotto teoscar Hernandez and then maybe Alex bregman right maybe we start to look at Nolan arado it doesn’t feel like the Red Sox are determined to move Rafael Des off of Third Base it just feels like that has become an option for the Red Sox over the last couple of days the other bit of news I want to talk about today isn’t exactly top of mind right now but it is something you should keep in the back of your mind as we head through this Thanksgiving week and that is that the Red Sox are going to start officially putting their offers SL bids in for Wan sto Services as of yesterday Buster only reported that this week the teams are expected to start forwarding their offers to W sto’s camp and this will be the first of the bidding process this is kind of it right this is where the Red Sox either put up or shut up we’ve been hearing all this smoke all this rumbling of the Red Sox actually looking to invest in their product actually looking to compete with these big Market teams that we haven’t seen the Red Sox do in quite some time and like the conversations we’ve had over the last couple of weeks about these comments this is the time period where we see how much actions speak louder than words are the Red Sox willing to be in the same ballpark as these major markets for a generational Talent like Juan stto this is where we start to see whether or not that’s a reality I don’t know if we are going to get legitimate confirmation that the Red Sox are spending $ 600 plus million do on woto I don’t know if we’re going to get the actual bid or anything like that but what we should get by the end of the week in my opinion is some sort of understanding of Where The Red Sox stand are they becoming more favorites in this market are they kind of being flushed out by these bigger Market teams that are just simply willing to way out bid these guys do they understand how much is going to have to go into this woto I think we’re going to get an understanding of all of that as the week goes on but I don’t know if we’re going to get an exact figure so that is absolutely something to keep an eye on as we move forward throughout this week I do think we will be making a video at some point during this week about where the Red Sox stand in the WAN sto sweep Stakes just simply because we are probably going to start getting some rumors as to what their bidding looks like but again I don’t know if we have anything truly concrete right now or even concrete by the end of this process still this is the time period where John Henry can actually make a legitimate noise amongst Major League Baseball and Red Sox fans specifically as to how much he’s back and playing in the big dog market so definitely something to keep in the back of your head definitely something to keep an eye on as we move through forward through this week definitely not something to get super upset about or excited about just yet though however I still want your opinion in the comment section down below so let me know what you think of all this what do you think about the WAN stto news what do where do you think the Red Sox land in all of that and how much do you think the Red Sox are going to need to compete with some of these other teams but more importantly let me know your thoughts on the Rafel de stuff let me know what you think about the potential of moving Rafi off of Third Base specifically for a guy like Aeron or Alex bregman do you like it do you not like it and how do you make that work with this current Club let me know all your thoughts in the comment section down below as always if you made it to the end of this video do me a favor make sure you guys have hit that subscribe button if you haven’t already if you’re here we talk Red Sox content almost every single day also make sure you guys have hit the like button on this video as well just simply helps these videos out a ton and it’s
