press conference to preview the meride Derby we’ll start off with Vinnie from Sky sure obviously last night there was a threat of dropping into the bottom three so how does that pressure produc one of the more convincing performances um I think the the bounceback ability once phrased by Ian da I believe but I think he made the dictionary that by the way um yeah I think the the idea of coming out of a real tough result and we’ve done that before um I didn’t think there was I said after I didn’t think there was a tremendous about wrong with the performance um I know I got questioning about that comment but that’s my belief but we made too many mistakes we obviously eradicated the mistakes and we play very well um I think maybe partly the the journey we’ve been on at this football club they’ been knock after knock after knock you know varying things varying reasons on the pitch off the pitch and Vining performances when we’re going along quite well was it the switch of the cor that held Domin Cal L last night or the talk that you had with do Cal Len yeah um no I think a mixture of things you know we looked at the Tactical side looked at the the way of playing looked at the best way of operating um to to win games and and just felt that in this occasion that was the right thing to do um and it worked I thought it was a good performance I thought it was a thorough performance you know I think we’ve played better in different games but thr in the professionalism the intent and desire to go and win a game and the will and I think that’s important as well as the tactics just get some bad look at times with the two on goals because he’s in there making it happen and also remember last season when he was on a run without goals the the game against Spurs where he did everything but score and it flicked off Jack Harrison and obviously Jack I think that’s fair I think last night particularly um because he’s in there he’s throwing himself at things um you know I mentioned about sometimes you got to get hurt to score a goal he did do last night as in throwing himself I think he’s lucky with a challenge on the keeper um yeah and and I’m pretty sure Craig Dawson some my respect from a long time ago and some I’ve known a long time great brother is I’m pretty sure he’d be happy to give them away um you know but yeah it’s uh a good performance I thought from do and and certainly getting in the right eras to score goals which we’ve spoken about quite a lot just as you mentioned the The Challenge on the keeper I mean any further thoughts on with the two that were choked off last night well I felt for um West Ham the other night at last I think that’s a tiny touch on a keeper and and I didn’t think last night was up to much um you know this is where we’re still scratching head sometimes you know on the strength of the game The Passion of the game I don’t think there’s a lot in their moments the are moments maybe I mean you know M has just got himself turned around the wrong way and blocks a run but I’d be surprised if that players going to head the ball on that one um I think I’m still I know I keep Haring I don’t get the screen thing mate just get on with it you know we know what’s going to happen the stats are massively saying that when they run over the screen they’re going to give what they’ve been told in their ear so just get on with it I think all fans we keep talking about speeding the game up if if they’re given that decision to get on with it and say no it’s no goal um that’s still for frustrating to me but back to the point in hand um I think the soft ones I think they could maybe go our way they didn’t on the day but fortunately we didn’t need them obviously roer came on looked Lively as well when’s he going to be ready to start and could he even play off yeah we’ll learn about him you know because we haven’t seen hardly any of him he’s been out training with us for sort of a couple of weeks but obviously we can only manage so many training sessions when we’ve got three in a week um like what I saw like what I’ve seen him training like his attitude towards it his attitude to get fit to work very hard to get fit um and and show and I thought g a good Cameo last night and certainly a player that we want to as we’ve spoken about you get pressure from the opposition you get pressured to play but also your internal pressure from your group and the more people you got fit the more internal pressure there is for players to play well all the time and I hope that help stimulate others um including himself of course to play well it will be the last ever Mercy side Derby League Mercy side Derby I should say at good some part um what further Edge does that add to the game well I mean I’d like to think that it brings our fans to the floor again um they’ve supported us throughout they question us that’s fine I’ve never questioned they’re questioning us because that’s part of the game but on this occasion I think it all goes out the window for this game you know I’ve learned that it’s kind of just an individual game in a season’s work that means so much um we delivered a very good performance last season we’re going to have to at home that is we’re going to have to do that again of course um against a very good side and and I think certainly our fans can play a part in that by getting behind the players again from the off and and creating that atmosphere that makes it difficult for teams to come and play here you don’t get overly emotional but was that game at gon Park one of the exceptions season it’s not about not getting emotional I just know the jobs the bigger jobs always there you know and and that was a them games for me explained it many times you know I haven’t got the depth of knowledge of them them games it’s for the it’s for the people it’s for the crowd well if we can win it’s for them it’s not for me um it’s for me to for my role of course and the points but you get what I mean I I understand the depth of it the history of it and I’ve always made that clear so what I did enjoy is giving something back you know and my little part including a team of people my staff as well and just giving something back to the fans you know that meant a lot um or we want to do that again and we’re certainly working hard to do that couple final things for me difference to Liverpool now on the on the slot compared to what you faced when y was in charge it’s a good question I think a lot of um what’s impressed me is I don’t think he’s made massive amounts of change I don’t know inside the camp obviously and his training sh and now he goes around that but for me that’s a good part of management if you know there’s not that much wrong you know to radically change everything um they’re still operating in a high Tempo manner they can still be effective in different ways and he seems to have kept that going in his own style I don’t know what that style is internally of course um and externally just seems to be letting it you know go along and and uh be in quite a smooth transition it seems to me um I suppose in a way it’s healthy transition in a sense as a manager who said he’s going to leave and then one coming in it’s not like it’s been a disaster and then one comes in so it’s a slightly different scenario but but they’re going well I mean that’s quite obvious no good outfit and we’re going to have to be on top of our form we we also saw in that game at goodon last season and we certainly saw last night the effectiveness of the set piece so again do you see that as a major weapon that you can use yeah I mean the I think overall we we’ve not been as effective in the early part of this season um partly because of delivery I think delivery last night was absolutely fantastic and uh you know you you know when balls have getting put in the box with that much quality that as long as you got people who are willing and have the desired to score a goal you’ve got increased chance and I thought that was certainly on show I thought we created other chances through General players as well which I was really pleased with but um setpiece is still have their place in the game without a doubt and hence why a lot of teams are bringing in setpiece coaches now I don’t feel the need for I think our staff do a great job I don’t do them my coaches do it my analysts do it and I think they do a really good job both in their box and in our box so long let that continue thank you thanks finny we’ll go 12 hi Sean um I spoke to oral on Friday and he said that his personal aim for the season was getting on the score sheet and he said how much he wanted it to be at home at goodison um what was your reaction to obviously his goal and also his performance last night yeah I was pleased for him he’s been working hard to get hold of kind of what we do and what we want from him um and I thought he grew into the game I thought it was a slow start but then got into the game you know after the first 10 of 15 minutes really got into it a great strike I mean he gets a bit of luck but he deserves a bit of luck he struck it so clean um yeah I thought he was very good last night and I think he’s been a good part of the group as well he’s a good character he’s got a good feel about how he goes about his business um you know a good a good player he’s a good team player so far he spoke a lot about the visualization of it and making sure that he can imagine what it would feel like um you could tell how hungry he was for that goal you mentioned earlier when when the heat is off how do you keep that hunger for goals amongst the group going well we’ve spoken openly to you we’ve spoken openly to the players about the the record of some of them they’re part records you know history leaves Clues you know and it and it certainly left Clues to our players last night say look you can score goals there’s no um you know magic to it other than being free and that’s the it’s kind of you know defocusing rather than focusing you know rather than overthinking it just drive into the right areas get the right delivery and attack the ball and try and simplify it and I thought there was a good show with that last night it’s not obviously that simple in real terms um but trying to take away you know some of the the the the outside thinking and the outside thoughts sometimes up the thoughts of scoring goals and try and get them back into that mode of just attacking the ball and the Simplicity of it and uh I was pleased with the outcome last night obviously we’ve got to continue with that that train of thought for the players and and the team as well but goals can come for everywhere you know I also made that clear you know we’re not looking at one person which often is the case you know we’re looking at the whole group and how we can find goals from other areas so the next four games Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Man City obviously such a tough spell between now and Christmas with also the the intensity and the frequency of the games as well what would you see as a success from that period we’ll see success is been competitive in all all areas you know we want to be competitive in every game we play we’ve been showing that recently um you know 14 points out of 10 games is not massive but it’s certainly a good show after a tough start so we responded to the challenge we responded last night we’ve got to keep that going no matter who we come across and that that competitive edges served us well um we’ve got to go and do it again and they are tough games no two ways about it very strong teams very financially strong teams with high quality players but I believe in what we are I think the players do as well I think that’s on show we’ve had a lot of challenges these are just more challenges for the group to take on and for myself so you know we’re go to it clear minded that these are the challenges we take it on thanks Helen for Del that Sean given the Run of fixtures that you’ve just been through how important was last night to go into that with a bit of momentum yeah it was certainly helpful because you know a lot of questions you know can you do this can you do that are you scoring enough goals and then you you encapsulated one performance but knowing that there’s been a lot more signs of that over the last run for me as manager um better signs than maybe the noise was but but you’ve got to go and prove it um it’s another step forward I said last night but we we we’ve had a kind of pattern of taking steps forward and then just coming back a bit and taking steps forward coming back a bit and we’ve got to keep correcting that and just try and keep going forwards it’s not easy you know people so it’s like why you winning games there 11 other out you know thinking the same they’re they’re thinking why aren’t we winning games they they’re hungry to win games so not as easy everyone thinks winning all the time but the power that we’ve got when we when we’re right and we’re proper with our performances as shown last night shows we can do it we can continue to be very competitive and we’ve got to keep that edge and I think that’s important and certainly we speaking what we spoke to the players about it today you’ve played in a lot of derbies you’ve managed in a lot of derbies and you’ve touched on your understanding of the history of this one how does it compare to the others you’ve been involved in yeah it’s a different it’s a completely different thing you know the the depth the history of it um most English football fans gr up knowing about the Mery Derby you know and um and I think it’s a different thing and having I think it’s my fourth so having that feel of it home and away my better understanding of it and and more the depth of it you know the depth of what it means to the people there and I certainly experienced that with one last year at home obviously um it would let me know what that meant to him um and it was a great feeling so we want that feeling again and can you use the memories of last year to kind of give the players that extra bit of confidence um I don’t know it brings confidence but it certainly must bring belief in what we were doing because you know it a tough time as well we just come out of a tough period Then and delivered a very good performance against the top side we’ve got to do that again um I think I think you know people talk about confidence winds wins helps it you know helps it grow and helps it solidify really within a group um but you’ve got to have confidence going into every game and I don’t think we’ve lacked that it’s just that them killer moments so last night we found them we’ve got to go and do that again and find that consistency doing it not just for the Liverpool game although that’s very important to us of course but I’m going after that thank you thanks Mar go Junior excuse me hi um just wanted to talk about broer because the fans got the first glimpse of him in an Everton shirt last night and I think everyone was quite excited about him you’ve obviously seen him a lot more in training and I know he’s been with the under 21s where do you see his role then going forward once you have got him fully fit and able you know do you see him being able to start with dom or or is he an out and out stri I think he’s a striker you know but we’ll see we’re learning about his role he’s played in different slightly different roles in his past um he’s still not got a a deep history in the Premier League but deep enough where he’s he has experienced it um but no we’ll find about him as we learn more about him but getting him out with was key for me um you know we’ve seen what he can do in training we’ seeing what he can do in a couple of Bounce games now it’s about that next level um and I thought it was a really good C he came on and really affected the game at at a key time of the game certainly showing signs of what he’s out and I do think there’s a real desire in him you know I’ve spoken to him about it a chance for him to make a mark at a at a big club like this and and I think he’s hungry for it so it’s another challenge for all the strikers we want that challenge you know youf I said has been for ever so unlucky you know he shown really strong signs in preseason but he’s now getting closer and working hard at his game Sorry working hard at his Fitness to come back fit and sharp so we’ll see what he offers but I was really pleased and pleased for him as well you know because I deliberately got him on nothing to do bet or anything like that I just wanted him to get on the pitch and get a feel of it as quick as we could and just talking about your opponents mosal are involved in 75% of Liverpool’s Premier League goals so far this season obviously they’re a tough side to prepare for anyway but when you’ve got a player like that does that change your preparations as a manager do you have to focus on one player no I mean he’s he’s a fine player we know that but you you know you you got to be careful with that in my thinking of the game been doing in a long time you put your folus on one player they got some very good other players you know and a lot of teams have so got to be careful with that but of course our players if you modif as coaches managers analytics all sorts um but yeah we we we certainly would look at the group and how we operate but it won’t just be about one player it be about working as a team for the whole team that we’re facing you used the set pieces last night and obviously there’ve been a lot of conversations about no goals in November and then four last night given Newcastle I’m sure you probably haven’t had a chance to look at other games from last night other than your own being there um given Newcastle managed to score three against Liverpool though and the fact that you you found ways to score last tonight is that giving you a bit more confidence than maybe a few days ago heading into this game I wouldn’t like to think a few days makes a difference but I think I think scoring goals makes a difference because you know people reassure themselves once again that we can score goals and I think that’s good about last night you know I’d have been I would have took a one nil but it’s nice to win four and we made other good chances from open players well where it could have been more but I was happy with that side of things happy we’re still defending properly as well as a group but it’s certainly in really just reaffirm terms to the the whole group we can score goals you know because the noise gets that strong it does you know people are wondering you know they almost forget sometimes you no no we’ve still got real quality in here whether it’s set pieces or general play open play and and you know delivery is a key thing and they’ve delivered last night so don’t think it gives you confidence it just reinsures it I think and around this game as you’ve said you know the emotions are always high as well I think a little bit heightened on this as well given it it could be the very last time we keep saying it’s the Premier League one but it it might be the last one given as well this is coming in a spell of of so many games you’ve played you’ll have played only three days earlier does that change your approach you have to to rest people or is it game like this that you know a bit of tightness doesn’t really matter because the emotions carry the players through no you still have to recover well and you still have to refuel um and I certainly we we’ve been looking at that today and tomorrow um on the other hand you know the players there there is a busy schedule I’ve said many times you know what the schedule is you know some teams in the in the league some of their players have enormous amounts of game shedu playing in you know World Cups European championships coming back playing in Europe playing in cups all all sorts of different games so some of our players have that of course of the Internationals but some of them don’t so you know when the fixtures come out that’s the challenge that’s what we’re got to be ready for and then it’s down to us to make sure they’re rested make sure they’re wellfed rehydrated and ready to go again and Mo and mentally motivated as well of course thanks Julia any further questions in the open section newsone last night uh yeah KN but nothing nothing serious nothing that we think is going to put anyone down Michael Keane will be touching go coming back into it um he’s got a minor knee ligament injury which has kept him out um yousef’s getting strong but not there Tim is a bit way off behind and so is Jimmy Garner but they’re they’re in process of getting back fit don’t think anyone else would think that’s it any further questions no okay thank you
