welcome along to Robins TV extra time it’s time to delve a little bit deeper into the analysis and reflect on what was in truth a really difficult day at the office for Bristol City they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Portsmouth and the fratton park curse continues not one there now since 1999 alongside me this afternoon is Chris Chris honor Chris it just wasn’t a good day for Bristol City no uh it’s probably one of those ones that we want to put behind us forget about move on to the next game um we didn’t cover ourselves in Glory by any means I think there’s uh too many players having off days um and we suffer suffered the consequences 3-0 battering um and too many mistakes in the wrong areas and um fortunately we’ve got nothing to show for it right let’s uh have a look at some of the stats from the game and well you can see the expected goals Portsmouth well on top and shots on target well on top as well but you wanted to highlight a little bit that Jules won Bristol City lead on but that doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story yeah we were a bit surprised when we saw the stats and Jules won I thought Bristol city were a little bit bullied at times we fell into a trap where Portsmouth wanted to um outfight us and we wanted to play our usual expansive game um and Portsmith didn’t allow us to do that we we wanted to pass the ball on in really difficult condition ions and I felt as if we lost too many 50/50s I I meant uh too many bouncing balls uh too many headers and I I I thought that was a weakness in today’s play and I’m I’m surprised to see those stats I must admit because um usually that that is a Telltale sign about um how a game can be won or lost um I that was one one thing I was very um you know as I said very surprised to see and I I I just don’t and know who was counting them to be honest but there was certainly one thing that they were counting right and that was the goals scored yeah right let’s uh have a look at some of the action then and there were some early warning signs for Bristol City that perhaps the Robbins were just struggling to cope with conditions at fratton Park and Portsmouth just seemed to cause Havoc early on with these set pieces yeah uh the win was in um the Portsmouth uh players favor they were in swinging these Corners there was one there that um Rob dicki’s got got up to go and head away and he’s got nowhere near it and he’s um and it’s almost fallen um to the Portsmouth player off a deflection off nacki Wells and we can see there that Max lir makes a a brilliant save with his left hand a kind of reaction save and the Portsmouth player must wonder what he has to do to score from two yards out and again another great ball into the box camr was on his toes and he managed to head it away and minutes later he did exactly the same another dangerous ball into the box Cam’s on his on his toes again as this ball drops it actually bounces in the Box how often do you see that in a championship game balls bounc from Corners into the box and it happened on several occasions because the wind was playing so many tricks with the players yeah a couple of really vital moments there for camping actually kept it at nil nil but then Portsmouth did take the lead and Bristol City trying to play out from the back perhaps a heavy ball from o into Jason Knight and then after that they just gave it away and Portsmouth punished them yeah they’ve set up a trap there’s five Portsmouth players in that picture um they’ve almost allowed o to play the ball into Knight and Knight has nowhere to go he can’t go back to the goalkeeper because his routs blocked he can’t go left or right because both Center halfes are marked and he ends up losing possession um and the Portsmouth player seizes the opportunity the first one was again brilliantly saved by great reactions but it fell straight back to him and he’s tucked it away um yeah uh game management really really poor um from two two of Bristol City’s um most experienced players and it was something that we highlighted in pregame actually was that this is how Portsmouth look to catch you out they try and set traps they’ll try and hit you very quickly and Bristol City just fell right for it they did exactly the same they did exactly the same last Saturday against Swansea when they Nick the ball Murphy nicked the ball wide out wide he flipped the ball into the box Richie got on the end of the another great cross into that six-yard box and dispatched it quite nicely and I even read some of the Portsmith newspapers this week and they were and they were AB actually talking about how they deliberately set traps for teams that are good in possession and how they Nick it high up the field and obviously no one no one in the Ashton gate office read that this week because I think we should have been a little bit more direct especially with the conditions and we got caught out on that occasion there were some good glimpses in the first half for Bristol City going forward couple of chances for Max bird and Anis MTI created from a little bit of more crisp passing that we’re more used to seeing from this is what we like to see isn’t it I mean lovely little stop and go he’s drifted past um Marlon pack two Bristol City players make the same run to their near post and unfortunately neither of them can get on the end of it but this is when we pass the ball we look such a great team you know we play Between the Lines another good pass led into the the feet of nacki Wells we’ve shown some really good good patience kept the ball alive on the edge of the Box the ball ends up at the feet of bird and he just gets under it slightly and misses that top left hand corner but that was really good and this is what we expect to see this is you know this bristle City team have entertained us all season so far but on this day we weren’t able to keep this kind of football football going and we fell back into the Trap of playing a more competitive or combative game that Portsmouth really wanted us to play yeah here’s the chance for Alice mimti that was well saved just that pace at Bristol City came forward we just didn’t see this enough today no uh again it’s it’s exciting football a great little thread into the feet of mcmi he’s let the ball go onto his left foot he just can’t keep he can’t strike it cleanly enough and the goalkeeper makes a com a comfortable save but we saw glimpses of the Bristol City that were used are seeing but not enough unfortunately so halftime one- nil down there were some optimistic moments perhaps at halim we thought could the robins get back in it but they really didn’t get going at all in the second half and Portsmouth very quickly made it 2-n through Josh Murphy and again from Bristol City’s point of view this is an avoidable goal yeah again both Dicky and and Knight are asking for fouls and I can understand why but again we we’re playing on the edge of our box they’ve set trap we’ve fallen into it Knight doesn’t know what’s on his left shoulder the Portsmouth player has stole it from him got a toe in it’s ended up at Murphy’s feet and Murphy slaughtered it between Max’s legs and on this occasion Max could save us you know he’s made a few couple of decent saves and on and he couldn’t do it this time but I just felt as if we needed to be a bit more direct at this time it was maybe five or 10 minutes into the second half we had loads to play for we were still in the game um it was too tight to play in those areas um and we lost possession and we were punished and again at 2-n down there were plenty of chances for bristle City going forward perhaps that decision making in the final third just wasn’t quite there and then Portsmouth clinical as they were throughout the game hit them very quickly and make it three yeah uh you you see um Josh Murphy get the ball at his feet he’s only got one thing in his mind he’s just going to make a yard and he’s going to flip that ball into that really really d ous zone between goalkeeper and the sixy Box no no Bristol City Center half wants to touch the ball just in case they put the ball in their own net and there’s a Portsmouth player doing what every good footballer should do every good Center forward should do make the run to the far post and just tuck it away and that’s what he did you can see mcal asking o to come for the ball because he doesn’t want to touch it he’s not going to get there and he almost put you can see he’s putting putting his arms up and looking at a Larry saying come and get it because I can’t touch it because I’m going to pull it in my own net but I felt as if the communication wasn’t good between them and maybe they got caught on their heels so yeah that’s was one to a reassess and perhaps um mck and Ali should have got his position a little bit um better quicker so he could have got the got a little bit deeper and cleared the ball well he could be for given for saying that there were no positives at all from today’s performance we have managed to to find one bright spot spk though and that was you her cow who I know particularly impressed you second half I thought he was great I think he you know on the early clip that we just shown how he he went past pack really easily but he’s bought the ball out the air there in blustery conditions and although the pass was overhit on that occasion what a great bit of skill that is and then here he is again little nutmegs well drifted past two man the cross again wasn’t brilliant but the ball comes back to him does a great little step over and again tries to curl that ball into that little postage stamp area of the goal although it’s the opposite side of the goal I know but um he tried to curl that ball into the very corner of that goal and just got slightly over under it and it’s gone over but some great skills from the from the little man um I get really excited he brings me to the edge of my seat every time I see him play um a huge plus Point uh and it’s just something to keep watching you know I I love watching him and um I’m sure every Bristol City fan does yeah bright spark in and otherwise Bleak performance today from the Robbins right looking forward then Sunderland on Tuesday games come thick and fast at this time of year it’s a tough trip away but from Bristol City’s point of view perhaps a game that might suit them a little bit more so than actually going to a side who are in a relegation scrap well first of all they want to prove that today was a was just a one-off a blip they want to forget all about today so the best advice I would imagine the manager given them at the moment is right we reset press the reset button you don’t forget you forget all about today you you try to take some lessons about today you need to prepare yourself now for Tuesday you remember how what a good side you were against Aral last Saturday and you go there and you believe in yourselves because they will go into a cauldron 40,000 wearsiders behind their team a team that is very Progressive in the way they play they they come at you very strong they’ got some really good skillful players on both sides Roberts and and Belling come coming through the middle and it suits Bristol City because now they’re going to have to really up their game they’re going have to they they know they’re the underdog they have to rise the to the occasion and they have to push themselves on they’re going to have to work as a team and knowing the Bristol City I love and adore they probably go there probably snatch a win so it’s a perfect game to go straight back into and um hopefully they do themselves proud Chris thank you ever so much for today being along with us you can of course watch that game away at Sunderland on Tuesday kickoff is 7:45 we’ll have all the pretty much buildup here on Robins TV from 7:15 but it was a dismal day at the office from Bristol city today thank you ever so much for tuning in [Applause] he [Music]
