through the decades of Highly disappointing New York Jet Seasons it is quite difficult to top the Aaron Rogers two seasons in New York the first wiped out five snaps in due to a snapped Achilles that perhaps has played a large part in the disastrous follow-up season in which Rogers looks frequently like a shadow of his former MVP self to the point where not even a reunion with Devonte Adams turned a single thing around fired the coach after week five fired the GM after week 11 and now of all people Gino Smith can fire in the true final nail today for the three and eight jets look out hey Matthew mccy I’m having a blast I really am Aaron Rogers he looked right lately I just I haven’t been feeling quite like myself and down goes Rogers you’re like uhoh uhoh the pass is picked off oh jeez your Pro Bowl years Ro the frustration for Aaron Rogers I’m 40 going on 41 obviously at the end of your career you just don’t move as well we just got to drop an anchor and stabilize I’m not jumping off ship can’t be thinking about that plan I haven’t told anybody that I want to play in 2025 and not I’m a jet don’t leave yet I got a hunch you’re going to do something special hang in there so I mean it’s just it’s Roger’s worst stretch of his career there’s just no two ways about it you’ve never seen his record or his passer rating like this his a streak of games without 300 passing yards dates back to his final days with Packers and then in terms of the business aspect of this because it is a business there’s not a single dollar of guaranteed money next year for Rogers in New Jersey where he’s arriving for work it’s like every week it’s like hey he’s feeling better Jets feel better everybody feeling better I mean they’re coming off the buy feeling better I mean nobody left to fire any and that’s for sure so what do what’s the latest with the Jets well no doubt Rich some huge decisions loom for the New York Jets after the seison who’s after the season who’s going to be the coach who’s going to be the GM is Aaron roders going to be the Jets quarterback in 2025 and you mentioned the money right none guaranteed they do owe him a $35 million option bonus if they decide to bring him back and my understanding is Rogers is considered right now to be a long shot to return to the Jets so this conversation will happen with the new power Brokers after the year but that is my understanding of where it stands right now Rogers is as you mentioned having the worst stretch of his career and they say for older players the first thing to go is the legs and he has been battling several different leg injuries this season there’s a small bit of good news he is finally off the injury report not saying he’s 100% healthy but finally off the injury report there are some good vibes I guess so we’ll see what the Jets can do today Rich that’s right coming off of a buy so the Jets uh assume will be as healthy as they they’ve been in quite some time and that’s how we kick off the third hour of NFL game day morning presented by Lowe’s we know football Lowe’s knows Home Improvement Lil Wayne’s going to be joining us I’m sure he’s feeling Skyhigh coming off of that Thanksgiving night performance by his Green Bay Packers I mean mentally Steve what I’m saying I I don’t your Snicker right there what’s going on with what’s wrong with you right at any rate who are you yeah welcome to hour three of NFL game day morning so I I I know this is I I know this is uh rif with something you don’t want to talk about Kurt because we’re talking about what somebody else should do yeah let alone it’s somebody else with whom you will be sharing a gallery for the rest of your you know Natural Born lives and Beyond in Canton Ohio but the topic bar is as such what should Aaron Rogers do next year do you think I here’s the thing is that I just want to see Aaron if he plays to play good football again like I I hate it when we have great players that have been unbelievable historic players in our league and then they don’t they’re not able to finish the way they’ve played their entire career and and we have certain visions of them later in their career and so I don’t know what that means does that mean to play good football again you stay with the Jets and you stay around an organization and you help build what you started there does that mean you need to go somewhere else and play and so you can play your brand of football and get back to being the great Aaron roders or is that it’s time to retire I don’t think I can be that guy anymore let me R off into the sunset after all the great things that he accomplished and so we remember him for all of the great things and so I I don’t know what the answer is I I mean obviously when it comes to retirement that is always a personal thing but I want to see him play good football again if he’s playing and I don’t know which of those scenario scenarios is the right one that would help him get back to playing what are you seeing on film though do you see somebody whose skills have diminished or do you see an offense that doesn’t click because of who I me I see a variety of things the first thing is I mean I see a guy that can still with his right arm I mean he’s got a special right arm he can still throw the football well enough to be great in this league beyond that yes I see an offense that struggles I don’t know what they’re doing a lot of the time there’s other times where I I see a quarterback that’s not comfortable playing the game he was always always had such great Poise was always under control at all times you know when he was in the pocket and I don’t see that anymore I see a guy that’s uncomfortable I see him making decisions fast I see him missing throws that he would normally make and I I again there’s so many things that could be going on there but he’s not the same Aaron Rogers that we’ve come to know as a quarterback for whatever reason and um you know and that’s ingrained in my mind and I I want to see that change and I want to see him get back to you know what we’ve all come to know Aaron Rogers as I I see it that way too I I think he still has enough arm talent to play very good football and Neil missed a couple throws here and there but I think it’s his legs that are different than we remember him running around making plays and scrambling and leaving the pocket but can he play will he play with the Jets to me the stars have to align perfectly for him to return to the Jets what do I mean by the Stars ownership has to sign off on it the new front office has to sign off off on it Joe Douglas is gone the new coaching staff has to say yeah we’re going to run his offense not our new one and then the fourth thing is he has to have the desire to play and play for the Jets again I don’t know what the odds are for all those four things happening so let me propose an alternative okay if you don’t mind go over to the Land of 10,000 lakes because we I remember a guy named Favre who over went over the Jets for a year and he said no I want to get back in the NFC North and what if what if Aaron roders because Sam darnold’s on a oneye deal he’s on a oneyear deal rich and they might want to say hey you want to come on over here for a year and help JJ from you know from Michigan grow up a little bit and play against the backers for a couple of times maybe that would be fun football huh he’d do an EXO or two on that right away that would be fun that’ be fun Aaron Rogers to the Vikings whoa yeah and for me it’s a mix of of what you both said but I want to see him have a one-year deal with one of these Fringe playoff teams and he’s not going to go to a Minnesota who has a young guy they just drafted their quarterback of the future the worst teams are going to draft young quarterbacks okay so I think about teams like New Orleans and Tennessee okay he can go to these teams make them better where I would like to see Aaron Rogers go is to the Pittsburgh Steelers and let me tell you why players sometimes transcend coaching Aaron Rogers is so high value of a player with what he’s done in the league he transcends coaching so he has to go somewhere where he can’t transcend the coach what better place than Mike Tomlin who will be unimpressed with Aaron Rogers so what you’ve been a great player in this league I was around Ben rothberger he’s a Hall of Famer so what you want a Super Bowl so have I he will not be able to transcend Mike Tomlin Mike Tomlin will be able to keep him in line and say hey I just need you to be the quarterback let me do everything else and I think with the Jets Aaron Rogers kind of took over and that’s what can happen when you have a young coach he can’t do that with Mike tomblin they have Hall of Famers on defense and a coach who will be in the Hall of Fame one day can I flip it on you then Gerald you saying Rogers needs to go to a place where he doesn’t transcend the coach yes yes he does because Aaron Rogers he has so much control and if you look at the the trend of what’s happened since he’s left Green Bay it’s been always an issue with him overtaking the coach he can’t do that with Mike Tom well I’ll just tell tell you the the fragile state of of the Jet fan that if if Rogers does go to the Vikings and make the NFC championship game with them it it would just put Jets fans in a fetal position after the last two years and then just make a mental note Jets front office we just put it in the capsule for whoever’s in there um or for you know the the Johnson family uh to make a mental note that if Jordan love needs a place to play in 2037 don’t dare take him because it just doesn’t work out when you’re done with the Packers quarterback just make a dynamic dual threat offense with Lamar Jackson and Derk Henry as tight end Mark Andrews told me if we want to get to where we want to go we’ve got to cut back on those mistakes and become an offensive quarterbacks but this one’s easy for me I’m going Lamar Jackson is that we know he’s having another MVP type season but to me Lamar Jackson continues to get better and one of the ways is inside the pocket being able to make those kinds of decisions quickly right here on the naked bootleg see the corner settle that’s all it takes boom up over the top to the corner route nice big throw and catch right here this might be one of my favorites running the choice route on the inside but what he really needs to see is that outside line backer he tucks inside yeah he might have the choice but he works right outside on time to the stop route big play and then the one thing that we know Lamar can do we got the big in is third and long I could easily take the check down that’s the right read but Lamar says no I’m good enough at buying time and maybe creating a big throw down the field for the first down as he does right there so so many things that Lamar Jackson can do and that’s just as a pocket passer so I’m going Lamar Jackson and Advantage Ravens BCI ah see I caught that I’m going to move up now I got running backs here well this is a hard one for me because both of these are fantastic talk about Acquisitions in the off season that are impactful Derk Henry King Henry’s gone to the best run team there is and then saquon Barkley are you kidding me this guy is going about 149. something yards per game scrimmage yards a little bit more in the passing game from saquin than you get from derck Henry but you know what we all remember this we’re going to remember watch some around Spin and now we’re going to jump and I’m going to demonstrate that and that’s saquon Barkley and that move will never be duplicated in the history of the world now let me fake a throw up to Gerald McCoy all right don’t throw it yeah oh well we’re not throwing it so we’re talking about the defense here I’m going to have to give the edge to the Philadelphia Eagles simply because of these rookie DBS you got Cooper Dee and you got Quan Mitchell Cooper de here locked in with Cooper cup he’s locked in the slot Man Hands On get physical with him make a play on the ball now you got quen Mitchell up top he’s going to track the wire receiver eyes on eyes on come out your break here we go punch through the ball this is what these young guys are doing at DB and why this defense has been so good and why I’m giving the edge to Philadelphia Cynthia well it makes complete sense if you give the edge to their defense I’m going to say the pass catcher Advantage is still with Philadelphia even though Devonte Smith is unlikely to play in this match up AJ Brown is the number one best receiver in this entire game and you also have Dallas Gard still I understand that there’s some good guys on the other side as well however we’re staying Advantage here so I am saying AJ Brown he has the advantage in this matchup Colleen all right I feel like I’ve been set up here I have head coach my family is going to disown me at this point but I’m going with John Harbaugh because Nick serani he’s been to a Super Bowl but John haral has actually won a Super Bowl top 20 in alltime wins top 10 in all-time playoff wins he’s been in Baltimore for 17 seasons and 11 playoff appearances and those soon to be 12 but one could argue that he is not where he is today without his 10 seasons spent under top three inside linebacker in this league you already lead the team in tackles I mean what more do you have to do uh get the ball I got to get turnovers um I think that’s the biggest thing um I don’t
