e e n hello everybody and welcome to anfield where Liverpool have just beaten Real Madrid 2-n in the champions league league phase I’m your host Theo Squire and this is the postmatch podcast brought Royal Madrid and they finally settled that score haven’t they seven defeats out of eight against Real mrid all the way back to that 2018 Champions League final that finally settled that score goals from at Alexis mallister and Cody gapo in the second half um there’s a couple of injury scares which I’ll get to in a moment as always we live on YouTube so get your comments in I’ll interact with some of them as we go along um but yeah it’s just a great performance from Liverpool they dominated from start to finish in the first half they had a number of chances and they’re unlucky not to be ahead uh Reno he cleared um an effort off the line I think it would have been our own goal to be fair but Salah plays in Darwin Nunes he shoots at CTO CTO pushes it onto his own Defender and he hooks it away Corell made a couple of saves in that first half but Liverpool up the ante after the break and they get the the desert just deserts um Connor Bradley was unfortunate not to score good header kept out by ctoa but then moments later he’s he’s involved in the opener lovely one two with Alexis mallister and mallister finishes a cross goal into that bottom left hand corner in front of the cop now there was plenty of drama as well um both sides saw penalties uh well missed saved uh Real Madrid’s Killian mbappe and what a save from Kean kellerer magnificent from the goalkeeper as he goes down to his left low tips it behind the post he’s faced penalties in his last four games of club and Country and he saved three of them granted Southampton scored the rebound at the weekend but nothing like that here today now at the other end Muhammad Salah missed a penalty of his own and he’ll be a little bit irritated by that uh he skips past the defender and he just gets brought down in the Box he steps up and just Powers it just wide of the post uh smile on his face but we know he’ll be frustrated with that and you think on another day maybe lipol going to Ru it but no such luck here uh a lovely second goal from substitute Cody gakpo would only just come on uh comes from a Liverpool Corner Andy Robertson plays it short to Curtis Jones gets it back whips into the far post and gpo’s there out jumping Luka Modric of all people to powerfully head home it’s a great header from him as I said get your comments in Michael Foley’s got one here talking about uh some of the outstanding team performances I’ll get that on screen there we go outstanding performance by all Liverpool players especially by Connor Bradley and ke kellerer and yeah Bradley was superb his name was sung time and time again there’s only one Connor Bradley in the first half there is an absolutely outstanding slide and Tackle he does on kilan mbappe and just think he is up against one of the very best players in the world a starting and he kept him quiet for the majority he did so so well and then there’s also the uh the added Narrative of Real Madrid Trent Alexander Arnold we know what happens there don’t we they’ve been linked with him so uh so often we know Trent’s out of contract at the end of the season he he was on the bench tonight back from that hamstring injury but not fit enough to start but Connor Bradley stole the show you wonder which of the the Liverpool right backs Real Madrid be after now but if Trent does go if there is a move at the end of that contract then Liverpool have got a really capable Deputy to step in and be their first choice in Conor Bradley a magnificent performance from him and I’m sure Ian D’s player ratings will say the same when we get to them keler we had very little to do to be honest with you but then he goes and gets that magnificent penalty save there were a couple of others but yeah a great performance from the Irishman once again with Alison be is still Sidelines you have to wonder uh when he is back who starts like I know Arna slotter said the Irish will keep um will drop out Allison will come back but he is given him a more more difficult decision by the week isn’t he another brilliant performance Allison’s not back in team training yet so it’ll be interesting to see if uh there’s a change in goal at the weekend if he does return to team training before Sunday um as I said with injuries Connor Bradley seems to have um tweaked his hamstring or something I believe uh he was limping at the end he went forward and another mother another moreing run linking up well with a couple of his teammates but he pulled up his leg he went down um and eventually limped off not the worst limp but it is a doubt isn’t it Joe Gomez came on for him ahead of Trent so obviously they haven’t had to give Trent minutes today when he’s only just come back from a hamstring injury himself but it is a concern for Liverpool with Manchester City up the weekends when you got that chance to extend the lead at the top of the Premier League table um if Trent’s not fit enough to start probably gonna have to go for Joe Gomez but Joey Gomez could be needed at Center back because Ibrahim kinate went down after the final whistle and he was in really pain it took him a while to get back up to his feet when he was walking off he had to stop a number of times was a little bit aided by medical team he he was in pain it was his limp was a lot heavier than Conor Bradley they both went down the tunnel just in front of each other really and Bradley had a smile on his face but Kate was invisible discomfort so um you’d imagine he’s probably not going to be fit for man city so Joe Gomez or derell Quan gonna have to make changes which is a a shame when the defense have been playing so well well that Partnership of vanj and canate for the majority but then we’ve seen Gomez come on was it against Aston Villa when canate was forced off and he was superb in that it was still a big blow for Liverpool but um hopefully nothing too too serious there y slot’s press conference in a little while and we’ll get injury updates on the two of them though we can Hazard to guess at what he’s going to say too early to say uh but with Man City on their Rising it’s uh not something you want to see what the comments have we got uh Andrew is full of PR for Liverpool saying that playing good mature football well composed and structured You’ll Never Walk Alone what I like about this Liverpool team is they look so assured of themselves they’re so calm they’re so confident they can just pass the ball around really well stay in control of the game sniff out chances and when they get their moments they take them and when they’re under the cost a little bit and teams are attacking against them they do well to see it out they kept so many Real Madrid star players really quiet tonight um and yeah if you can do it against the European reigning European Champions maybe they can do it against the the reigning L Champions on Sunday but yeah it’s a magnificent performance from them uh SK gun sorry if I said that wrong he said Robertson is in cahs with K to get his market value up of course that is um it was Robertson who conceded that penalty for Real Madrid it’s a bit of a soft one but that’s two penalties conceded in two games and with Costas Semus out injured at the moment with an ankle injury those defensive injuries are stacking up aren’t they I’m sure that’s something that Arna slot is going to reference we got another comments from plor saying Conor Bradley was brilliant second half he was deservedly having his name Sun throughout and got a standing Evas when he limped off at the end um and yeah let’s get to Do’s player ratings because I’m sure they’re going to say pretty similar aren’t they yeah kellerer eight Bradley nine kellerer not much to do first half as Real Madrid kept arms length went excellent penalty stop to deny mbappe second half it really is it’s one of the best penalty saves you all see and Bradley Rous crowd with thunderous tackle on mbappe and dominated his arrival assisted the opener and Drew five fine safe from CTO excellent the injury worry there’s a few other eights in there as well canate Van djk renberg mallister Curtis Jones gets a n ability to keep hold of the ball so useful in this competition the danger when drifting into the box came into his own second half and Diaz an eight as well as you can imagine these ratings are very very positive for me and do so go on the liol echo website to check them out um kico’s very confident despite those injuries he’s saying Liverpool will win on Sunday don’t worry obviously they win on Sunday against Man City there go 11 points clear of Manchester City can’t guarantee it’ll be at top of the table because Arsenal and Chelsea can win themselves and overtake um Man City but whilst we’re talking about tables let’s have a look at the Champions League table because that Liverpool have made it five wins from five there so they are comfortably top of the the new league phase 15 points inter mil second on 13 Barcelona third on 12 bsia Dortmund fourth on 12 then you got Atlanta on 11 Leverkusen on 10 Arsenal 10 Monaco 10 and then you got Villa Sports breast and Li also on 10 points um to make up the top 12 a reminder it’s only the top eight that go through to the um the automatic knockout stages so like the round of 16 onwards and it will be seeded so say it stays as is Liverpool first into M second I believe Liverpool couldn’t face into Milan until the final they need to do some homework on that to make sure that is correct but yeah Liverpool are getting there aren’t they Jon are up next in the Champions League if your Five Points clear of the um of the the rest of the sides now in that top eight you’d imagine that in that sixth game they should be able to clear clinch their place in the top eight and then it’s whether they go out for clinching um top spot or not played five one5 scored 12 conceded one it really doesn’t get much better this insane run under new head coach Onna slot goes on and on and on and they’ve just humbled the reigning European Champions granted Real Madrid had their injuries but they kept mbappe quiet they kept Bellingham quiet they were magnificent like Conor Bradley had m okay and with Liverpool withdrew from the race to sign Jude Bellingham what 18 months ago and went to do an overall Midfield revamp instead when you get grenberg mallister Curtis Jones is already in your ranks boss as well um maybe quantity was better than the quality on this occasion but that quantity has certainly got lots and lots of quality have a look at the stats now in this game because I’m going to Imagine The Possession is going to tell a story yeah it is Liverpool 62.6% of possession they Real Madrid two death 177 shots against nine with seven on target uh they were brilliant total touches in the Box they had 38 to Real Madrid’s nine yeah it tells a story Liverpool were in control of this game couple of scares uh but the injuries are the big blow but brilliant performance from them assists for a couple year fullbacks goals for mallister in the Champions League again gakpo gets one Off the Bench um we haven’t mentioned him yet but Darwin nun has actually had a really good first half as well I know he’s not going to get on the score sheet here but he’s uh forced CTO to saves a couple of times and he’s just been a real threat we’re not sure when Dogo J will be back that’s another player who’s injured got Federico ker as well hopefully a couple of them will be back for Manchester City but yeah that injury list is creeping up slowly um I’ll run you through the scores from the day Red Star Belgrade won 5-1 against stutgart sturr one nil against Jona um who Liverpool play next away from home in the next Champions League game Villa nil Juventus nil bologna one Le 2 Celtic one Club Bru one Dynamo zarrab nil bissa dortman three Monaco 2 Benfica three PSV einhoven three Shak dides two um so yeah Liverpool and A League of Their Own at the top of the champ Champions League table now um let’s go back to some of your com uh comments paulate says Neil uh what’s this one one should probably be more it about Liverpool just sweeping 15 champions league and bogy side to be honest easy fashion butor and this team’s calmness is contagious they’re just so enjoyable to watch at the moment they’re looking like a side that is capable of winning the biggest honors like we had Jurgen klopp’s rock and roll football you’d Force chaos you’d Force mistakes and it was so exciting to watch but this added bit of control from ARA slotman is really making the difference um it’s just how other they’re going to navigate these injuries because like I say if those two players are canate and Bradley are out for the weekend um that list is growing and growing like it’s four players out at the moment I believe yeah with Trent back today on the bench not that he played it’s four players already out injured that rises to six um Simas was an ankle injury so we’re not sure when he’s going to be back Kaza has been in parts of team training like he team training out the Open session yesterday and he was involved in Friday but not risked in the squad today so it’s how soon they want to put him back in the match day Squad maybe man city is not the one for that Allison he still sidelined um he’s done individual training but not team training yet same as Doo J so you’re just waiting for them to take those next steps into team training before we can get a better idea of when they’ll be available for action but you throw in canate and Bradley Bradley like I said he was limping but he had a smile on his face it wasn’t too heavy so maybe it’s like the one Trent had where he was out for a couple of weeks but canate has looked a little bit more serious so there are probably presumably going to have to be defensive changes at the weekend against Manchester City whether that’s Joe Gomez jell quaner or Trent Alexander Arnold back in um but yeah it was like I said a really good performance from Liverpool today to maintain that excellent run under slot uh Flor says oh he’s pulled out another Downer robo’s form is a concern he panics defensively and his legs are going now it’s it’s a tricky one with Robertson because he he did all right down that left hand side at times but Gula was probably the liveliest of Real Madrid’s players and he concedes the penalty second in two games he has looked shaky at times this season but he has been struck down with injury a lot in the past year he’s still very much a leader in this Liverpool Squad so I wouldn’t necessarily want to see him sold he’s out of contract in 18 months but it’s where Liverpool do start thinking they needs someone ahead of him in the pecking order where when Simas is back from that ankle injury he can uh get that place back aror slot had been rotating the two since the Champions League got underway it’s only in the last couple of games where Robertson’s had to start simic is out he’s edged away in those appearances over that time frame but yeah there isn’t really a clear runaway left back in the pecking order at the moment uh Simas he needs Rhythm and Robertson needs to find a way to get back to his best form if he can ReDiscover his best form like there’s a big call to say if his legs are going or if he’s just struggling a bit with injury in the past and he needs to get Rhythm himself um that might be all we’ve got time for today after great Liverpool Victory the slot run goes on what’s it now one defeat one draw 17 wins I’m losing count I have to check on his Wikipedia but it has been an incredible we can’t even say start anymore to his Liverpool Reign can we we’re so far into the season now we third of the way in uh who could have predicted this when Jurgen klopp stepped down Arna slot has managed to do what Jurgen klopp never could and beat Real Madrid and confidently and emphatically too um we got one more comment here from Daniel Jones was excellent MCM mallister start and grav is gravy we’ve got the best Midfield in the world you got toos to throw in there as well Harvey Elliot wato Endo has done really well when he’s come on to se out games it is a real nice combination in then that lpool engine room they’ve got a bit of everything and just out Sean Luca modri one of the greatest midfielders of his generation Jude Bellingham and Eduardo kaminga how much l triio cost Real Madrid it is insane Flor jokes klopp was clearly holding us back we don’t want to get carried away but it’s klopp the shankley to slots Paisley I’m not going to say that just yet let’s get to the end of the season first and see how this Maiden campaign goes but yeah so far so good that’s all we’ve got time for here anfield because I got to get downstairs for J Jurgen Club oh what have you done to me your Floria at Arna slot’s press conference I think that’s the first time I’ve slipped up like that so far this season on a slots
