It’s been a rough sophomore season for Connor Bedard as he leads a Blackhawks team that is currently sitting at the bottom of the NHL standings. Adding to this undesirable situation is the firing of Luke Richardson as head coach. All of this begs the question, are the Blackhawks failing Bedard? Domino’s That’s Hockey discusses the issues in Chicago and considers how Bedard will handle not being selected for Team Canada.

we’re back with Brian Hayes and Jamie mclennen and guys it’s been a rough sophomore season for Connor Bard the Blackhawks they’re in last place and now they fired their coach So Jamie is the team failing Conor Bard I’m not going to say failing I do believe they tried in the off season to surround him with I would say this respectfully NHL players you know Taylor Hall is healthy you you brought in Mev you’ve got guys that can actually play and and contribute Nick Felino is a guy you made him the cap and he’s going to try and help to get him to the next level the biggest challenge I see is he’s not surrounded with another a lot of young players and they’re going to grow together I think of Nathan McKinnon uh early on in his career with the Colorado Avalanche Ryan O’Reilly was there Gabriel landeskog was there so there was young players that were going to grow together and then you had some veteran guys to help with that process same thing with the evont oers Ryan newon Hopkins Jordan eely and then when Conor McDavid came in there were some young players that Leon dry sideo they were going to grow together in Chicago it’s Conor Bard and then a bunch of players so they’re trying but I will say this Brian they’ve got lots of work ahead of them to get it done absolutely and I’m with you I don’t think it’s a definitive failure yet Sarah but I think they’re risking that I think it’s moving in that direction because of what Jamie just said he needs youth around him and I think to be fair to the Blackhawks you probably have to give them a year or two you know Conor Mard you’re you’re a superstar kid coming out of Junior first overall 18 years old you’re going to step right into the league other players have to go back to Junior some have to go to the American Hockey League it’s not always the same path so I think you have to give it some time but now he’s dealing with his second head coach in his second year again a lot of veteran players that just are simply not in their Prime anymore they threw some money around they brought in guys who are good leaders but they’re not going to help him on the ice in terms of him elevating his game but I think Bard’s got to take some responsibility here too because of again he can’t cre he he can’t control the hype but he was a great great Junior player and they basically went all in on a tank well not basically they did they tanked for him the whole program revolves around him he’s got to play better he’s got to continue to grow he’s got to grow above any possible obstacle he might face because that is what is expected when you’re a generational guy when you’re the face of a franchise at 18 it’s tough but but guys prior to him have done it before and it’s a very difficult thing to do but I think he can so I don’t think they failed him yet Sarah but they’re moving in that direction ction if there’s a third coach before year three or year four that just simply can’t happen if they don’t get more Youth and better players here you’ve got trouble in Chicago and I think Conor Bard would have a right to look around and say guys you got to help me out here yeah so not necessarily setting him up for Success at this point in time uh then there’s Team Canada they showed they were willing to take a young up incomer but they chose Seth Jarvis instead of Bard and Hayes how do you think Bard will handle that missed opportunity I think it’s a clear-cut message again he needs help like we just established his own team didn’t help him when you’re on the worst worst team in the league last place team in the league it’s tough to look great you know to the scouts and again he’s had a sophomore slump he has looked and sounded dejected speaking with the media but hopefully this is an opportunity for him to look past that and maybe there was a chance that that this this buildup towards the for nation faceof was actually a deterrent for him because he wasn’t prepared for it now you turn the page you’re not a part of the tournament continue to grow try to make make the most out of a Lost season in terms of what your team is all about get into next off season and I know I’m putting the C before the hores get in the gym get on the ice come out like Rocket Fuel next year I still think he has a chance to be on the Olympic team next year I I think it’s it’s it’s farfetched it’s a long shot right now but I think he’s on the radar because of what you just said Hockey Canada has looked past guys in their 30s time has pass stos and tavarus and shley unfortunately maybe Zack Hyman they want youth he is the face of the future if he has a good quality second half of the season a great offseason noodles and he comes out like I said like Rocket Fuel next year he could get to the big dance it’s not the four nations face off it’s the Olympic Games next year I agree this this is an effect in twofolds because you don’t make the team so it is a shot across the bow saying we don’t believe you’re ready to play you know four nations best on best for these four countries to go head-to-head but you still have an opportunity for the rest of the season season and like you said Hayes a good off seon and Chicago is going to probably do everything they can to surround him with better players next season there’s going to be growth internally and if he hits the ground running next season he puts himself into the Olympic conversation so the four nations face off this is a precursor but the whole focus is the Olympics next year so you’ve got an opportunity if you continue to show growth but there’s lots of work to be done individually for Conor Bard to be in that next level and to be considered because there’s some great players we’ve talked about it at length everyone uh Team Canada they could house two teams they’re that deep so Bard has to push himself into that conversation and earn that spot next year yeah and hopefully he can get that support so that he can grow into that player well Bard and the Blackhawks in the meantime host the Jets tomorrow night for
