played a competitive game at Marquette before falling short and losing by 14 points so I don’t know Wisconsin seems good not great like every Wisconsin team ever Illinois seems great when they play well maybe a little low good when they don’t is that a fair way to like like if we’re doing floor and ceiling of both these teams I would go ceiling Illinois way up here big drop floor no ceiling One V one so Wisconsin I I got some [ __ ] from Wisconsin fans in the comments before the Michigan Wisconsin game because uh I said last week in the preview free throws are fluky sometimes like yes there’s good free throw shooting teams but usually if you’re making 90% of your free throws that’s not going to last all season long and Wisconsin fans were like no we’re really good at shooting free throws they are really good at shooting free throws like tanji gets the line he’s a great free throw shooter um they’re making 86% of their free throws that is best in the country they may end the season as the best free throw shooting team in the country they’re playing Illinois who in this category has zero impact on this at all it’s pure luck it has nothing to do with anything Illinois is the best free throw defense in the country teams make 58% of their free throws against illino that’s crazy like that’s just pure luck like how how many free throws your opponents make has nothing to do with anything you do I C I cannot stop looking at Illinois’s defensive metrics do you buy them do you think they’re real they’re crazy good I I think I think we have to start doing it yeah I think we have to start I mean it’s a weird weird time to start singing the Praises of Illinois’s incredible defense after what Nick Martinelli just did to Tom Rick house but sure yeah that well that’s where it’s somewhere in the middle of oh this is a top 25 defense but also at any point the other team can isolate and hunt a certain player so how’s Wisconsin gonna attack that I would assume they’re going I you and I are like throwing it out the window because we know casparis and Big T are more talented but like on what they’ve done this season tanji has been the best player in this game that’s fair to say and then you can you’re picking between casparis and Big T um here’s a reason why I’m skeptical of tanji in this game don’t look now but his [ __ ] ain’t really working in the last week against good teams don’t look now well don’t look now but like I mean that the again 33 against pit with 14 twos he went 10 for 14 and made 10 free throws uh he had 41 against a Iona he made 21 free throws in that game like okay cool we get it like you’re you’re unstoppable downhill that could cause a problem for Illinois for sure but you get to Big 10 play you see Michigan at the coal Center and then you play Marquette on the road a day later uh in those two games he had 18 and 14 18 and 14 are not bad obviously production but he’s shooting eight for 23 from the floor he’s basically down to 35% from the floor in those two games eight turnovers to just one assist in those two games like if that’s if if you’re going to get that Toni 35% from the floor with an 8 to1 turnover to assist ratio you’re going to lose to good teams every time right and like you said they need him to play better right and against Theo defense it’s interesting so that that works in Wisconsin’s favor though because I think if Greg guard wants to there’s areas where you just you get tanji onto those guys and Toni should be able to do what he wants to do I don’t think it’s going to work so I’m I’m spoiling my conclusion here but I so Illinois is huge right like T if Toni gets H Rick house on him Tan’s gonna want to go through him or blow by him but then you’re driving into like seven foot Big T 610 morz 68 will Riley 66 casparis like T to me tanji will struggle against size we saw that against Michigan we saw that against Marquette so I don’t know I guess I I don’t Envision this being a huge Toni game even if he can blow by him Rick house because to me he’s predicated entirely on getting to the free throw line or finishing at the rim and I don’t think Illinois will foul him or let that happen at The Rim so I think are we getting to the conclusion that Illinois wins this game comfortably yeah got more numbers got more numbers for you please love them can I give you my favorite Brad Underwood stat for a a game in a long time I love your favorite Brad Underwood stats I would lead daily picks with this if daily Pick still existed but it doesn’t uh so Brad Underwood since 2020 as Illinois’s head coach in a bounceback spot at home there have been 28 games off a loss at home since 2020 for Brad Underwood they’re 26-2 outright in those games 21 of the 26 wins have come by seven or more points they usually blow people out following a loss at home in the Underwood era it’s been very rare that they don’t well I do love Brad in the spot yeah also also I could see like a rick house bounceback performance like he hits five threes and the world and the discussion is oh this is why this is why you play him yeah Rick house is uh going to be comfortable against Wisconsin I think yeah
