to eat that contract whether it’s the majority of the contract the $20 million or so that he’s owed for the final year in his four-year deal at over $80 million whatever it may be the Mets are interested in not only trading staling Marte but reportedly they are seeking some type of reliever in return turn so as we know David Stern can be very Savvy and smart in his Bullpen pickups this off season but coming to find out that stry Marte could be essentially a salary dump for a solid reliever I’m not opposed to that at all and listen this is nothing personal against star studed sty Marte he’s had some great heroics for the Mets let’s not forget in a bounceback year for Marte at the age of 35 and 94 games last season seven home runs 46 runs scored 40 RBI 16 stolen bags a 269 average or 327 on base percentage and 388 slug for a 104 WRC plus but for aan Marte who’s now entering his age 36 season is not getting any younger and is more and more of a DH than certainly what is obviously a liability in the corner Outfield and knowing that the Mets probably want to have more not only positional diversity at the DH position but more power than anything else you’re getting far from that consistently from stry Marte and while yes you might be able to keep him healthier by keeping him off the field how is that going to turn into the bat to ball skills and exemplifying more power from Marte we simply don’t know so even though star studed Starling and had himself a strong 2022 campaign with the Mets his first year here with a 292 average of 347 on base percentage a 468 slug for a 132 WRC plus 12 home runs 89 runs scored and pardon me 16 home runs 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bags in that season he was tremendous for the Mets in 2022 2023 we won’t talk about was a wash due to injuries but with marte’s lack of Health certainty and knowing the Mets already have a log Jam as it currently stands with Brandon Nemo Tyron Taylor Jose Siri now you have Juan stto staling Marte at Jeff mcel is an outfielder you got another the Mets already have six formidable Outfield types and this isn’t even including a guy and Drew Gilbert who could absolutely blow them away this spring training and look to crack a roster at some point potentially in the first half of the year so knowing that there’s uncertainty with how the Mets want to go about this right now you can expect them to continue shopping starle Martina services and hopes of getting their reliever back and return for a salary to dump type situation Marte if you are trade this off season I wish you so much the best in your future endeavors wherever you may land and I greatly appreciate you and your service that you did for the Mets over the years thank you so much for that star studed Starling Marte we have not forgotten you now to go from starle Marte everybody let’s get on now to another man and this is a man that the Mets wanted a lot you know certainly a decent amount and we’re going to highlight here from Jeff passon who was one of the first to break this that we saw that the Chicago White Socks are officially trading yes scare crochet to the Boston Red Sox and in return we saw the Boston Red Sox gave up their top three five 12 and 17th ranked prospects per ESPN including their coveted catching prospect there in Kyle teal gar crochet who I absolutely would have loved in this Mets rotation that goes without saying as guy that yes the Mets fell short on but had a lot more to do with the Red Sox after falling short of juo needed to make a splash after seeing Max freed another arm that they really liked landing on him massively launcher and deal 8 years over $200 million with the Rival in the big bad New York Yankees so for the Red Sox try to get back to being a contender there for 2025 they make a very Savvy move here a tremendous pickup and gar crochet that could potentially help Frontline their rotation for the next decade at the young age of 25 and the white sock get a great haul and in comparison folks this would be the equivalent of the Mets having to give up like Brandon Sprout one of not both of jet Williams uh louisan hunia and then some and clearly even when the Mets had active negoti deep in the negotiation there with the white socks it was not enough because if there was one team if there was one farm that came off either more appealing than anyone else or close to more appealing than anyone else uh it is certainly the Boston Red Sox there and as anthy too highlights here everybody the Mets had some back and forth with the white socks and gar crochet before he more attractive Farm it is what it is fitting that the socks trade with each other again just like they did for Chris Sale back in the day but now what the Mets need to do as a proper pivot will be yet to be seen we’re going to highlight that in our live show tonight regarding sha manah Walker beer and yes you guessed it we’re going to talk plenty on the man that the Mets have been connected to again that we saw earlier this morning Nick piveta the Mets are meeting with Nick Peta today per John hayon and their final round of winter meetings before David Stern and Co fly home and to break down a little bit more on Nick pet everybody let me just Enlighten you how interesting of an option someone in Nick Peta is because the big reason why people don’t want Nick Peta is because ni Peta one is not the sexier flasher name and two Nick Peta has a compact TI him the qualifying offer he rejected that $215 million from the Boston Red Sox so because of that reason the Mets would have to give up a decent amount there so pretty much the Mets have already given up if I’m not mistaken their second and fifth round picks and $1 million and their IFA bonus pool money for 2026 because of signing stto after he denied the qo from the Yankees should they pick up anyone else that rejected a qualify offer they also have to give up their respective third and six picks if I’m not mistaken I’m actually going to double check on my phone right now just to make sure that I do not have it wrong yeah I believe the third and the sixth so simply put that’s a lot of draft Capital the Mets are already giving up for SoDo that they would have to add and give up then for Nick Peta so that is why he is the least attractive in comparison to other top fragrance in manah and berer in which they don’t have a qo attached but in the case here Peta why is he so appealing well we’ve talking glowingly on the platform Peta we will again the GU is absolutely Ely nasty do not let the 4.1 ear Ray fool you a 3.59 expected ear Ray tells you a lot what you’re getting petta a roughly 150 Innings with the Red Sox this past season a 3.31 Sia a guy that understands his familiarity with the N East during kerine to sitting right around a two walks forine which is why you see on his career right around a 10 Caper 9 to a three walks for9 Nick PETA has been a very strong and very really articulate starter I’d rightfully argue here when we look at him for the Boston Red Sox and these are the disgustingly good Garett crochet baseball Savant numbers that sadly I can’t admire anymore in hopes of him Landing with the Mets but with the Mets now considering other options in the fre agan Market along with Peta manah and now what we see in Walker berer over the past number of days Nick Peta what he can bring to this Mets team honestly again if they are going to go out of their way to acquire him I understand it is one for great reason because if they are this jaw Dro with Nick Peta that they’re willing to give up the compix and all those details in between that’s for great reasons that David Sterns uh Jeremy Hefner and Desi Drew skull all love what they’d be picking up for this pitching lap these are all the prales over this past season for PETA that a forcing fast ball that’s it’ss 94 the sweeper there that can be nasty when it’s right sitting 8283 the curveball which is my favorite pitch of petas when he has it has so much drop it’s disgusting now 80 mph the cutter there it’s sitting just under 90 and the slide piece there in the back pocket had just 3% of his Arsenal this past year there but what’s also exciting about Peta see those are the Savant numbers high in the K percentage there in the walk percentage below the barrel so what he did get Barrel he got Barrel hard than we saw that this past season in 2023 though Nick Peta as both a starter and a reliever you see a little bit of the differences there again he gets a lead extension for a guy at 6’5 210 so he’s really taking advantage of his frame there but you’re also getting Peta that understands how to be utilized as both a starter and reliever he’s coming off of three great Seasons even including as a starter and a reliever in 2023 where he posted 183 strikeouts in 2022 as just a starter he posted 175 and then in 2024 he posted 172 just for context he had 183 strikeouts in 2023 where he only started 16 games out of 38 and pitched 142 Innings the Caper nine in 2023 was over 12 it was absolutely stupid now in 2024 comes back down Earth a little bit because he’s back to being a normal starter but he’s been utilized as a closer as a setup as a multi- a reliever piveta has been thrown in every situation imaginable and understands how to handle the big Market as he has been handling the past couple years with the Boston Red Sox so in the case of piveta he checks off a lot of boxes on what David Sterns is looking for this off season on guys that fit the mold for this rotation are comfortable to handle a six-man rotation that Sterns is on record what the media yesterday saying that we can essentially expect to happen at least to begin the season as the same way that Nick pet up the Mets L and yes you’re giving up a lot of compensation But please understand and buy into the David Stern’s philosophy I think all of us should have learned by now not to judge the man and judge a book by its cover before we find out further details how these players are going to pan out in Queens the current Mets rotation has the stand right now no particular order is kodai senga David peerson what we’re also going to see there now in Frankie Montas clay Holmes then you have Paul black for Paul Blackburn Tyler Mcgill and obviously Brandon Sprout who’s looking to crack the team out of spring training potentially the Mets have plenty of depth but they’re still looking for more quality so whether that is a manah a berer a piveta and potentially Roki Sasaki come that signing period that we’re going to see right around January 15th or so God willing the Mets find themselves Landing one if not multiple starters before the offseason concludes and expect them to be continuing to not only search in the frion market but plenty in the trade market and I think especially after G crochet has now landed with the uh with the Boston Red Sox don’t be surprised if you hear Rumblings of the Mets reportedly connected to either Dylan C’s coming out of San Diego’s camp in which he’s been in active trade talks Michael Kane’s name has been thrown out there a recent two which I know the Mets would love and fit theability would agree but also one in the division that we talked about as a trade Target going back over the past month and Jesus lazardo a crafty young Southpaw that’s a flamethrower that checks off a lot of boxes for the Mets in the shorter longterm bill and it’s going to cost you less Capital than what you gave up in the Red Sox for gar crochet with Chicago Mets fans let me know
