e Welcome to the baseball insiders I’m Adam Wier and I’m deleting a thousand tweets about Bill bellich but enough about football joining me direct from the winter meetings is fansided MLB Insider Robert Murray and as the comments are mentioning Jason Parker uh hoping today is the day we get breaking news during the show Robert this definitely feels like a day where I’m going to be relying on the comment section to tell me if something happened during this podcast how are you I’m I’m great I know there’s there’s plenty of talks going on around the league I should be breaking something right after the rule five draft so that’s exciting um got lots of stuff that’s in the fire right now so we’ll see if anything gets done before a lot of people head out of the winter meetings today but I am excited to break it all down here with you Adam feels good to be back day three of the winter meetings it has been a whirlwind I’ve been I I I ended up going to bed last night at about 3:00 a.m I was doing some shooing and and trying to trying to get all the stories for you guys for the podcast so sacrifices were made I’m sleep deprived but I’m I’m here for Adam how you doing today I am good get this week’s edition you’ll read both of us uh that would be a good idea on your part especially because there’s no time better than the winter meetings plenty happened last night and I wanted to talk about what was happening last night uh but there’s so much much more Brewing right now that feels like it’s it’s in the middle of completion so I do want to start with Kyle Tucker just because we’re going to get so many Cubs Kyle Tucker questions Yankees Kyle Tucker questions the Phillies and Giants reportedly involved what we think we know Ken Rosenthal on ESO Paredes and SE Suzuki being in the Cubs package and John Haymon reiterating what Joel Sherman said this morning that Luis heel is in this Yankees package and the Astros really like him so if you’re handicapping it it’s kind of hard to see the Cubs getting out bid with their willingness to include that much Major League talent and parus was a fit for the Crawford boxes at the dead line and is a fit for the Crawford boxes now more so than he is a fit at Wrigley Field but thoughts on the chase the teams involved in the likelihood of something going down before we all leave Dallas yeah I I don’t necessarily know the likelihood of something happening while we’re in Dallas here but I on the podcast yesterday I I expressed some pessimism about a Tucker trade possibly happen happening um I think it’s more more realistic than I once thought and I’m not saying it’s likely by any means but the interest in Tucker is real and he’s only got one year remaining on his contract and there’s plenty of teams that are interested here you look at uh the Cubs obviously been mentioned the Yankees there’s other teams as well it remains to be seen if exactly the Yankees would want to part with Lis Gil like I mean that’s like U that’s a huge player to part with for only one or potentially one year of Kyle Tucker um and then I’m kind of skeptical that the Cubs are going to ultimately trade SE Suzuki I think Isaac petus is a a player of real interest for the Astros uh they really liked him last year in talks with the Tampa Bay Rays and I would imagine that’d be a key talking point in conversations here about Kyle Tucker um but it it makes total sense for the Astros to listen here as I said with one year remaining on his contract and him in being in position to really cash in next year in free agency we’re talking a contract well over $300 million maybe even for 500 depending on how he ends up playing this year um it’s it’s a it’s something that the Astros need to seriously consider and I think they will consider it if they get the right offer I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull the trigger on it uh well I’m not sure why you’re mentioning potentially only one year we know that if the Yankees get a top tier Talent like Kyle Tucker in in their walk year there’s no way that that player wouldn’t be swayed by the Yankees Mystique to return on a large extension Co oh actually sorry I’m just being told that that just happened and left um well I know we have a lot of commenters uh and we have some super chats that we’ll get to but I I know there’s some some Red Sox uh angst AGA right now after missing out on Max freed last night but we all knew something was coming for the Yankees when Brian Cashman canceled his MLB Network appearance last night they ended up pulling off freed and they might be pulling off more uh Craig breslo apparently just did the same thing there are plenty of Tweets in Red Sox Universe right now hinting that something may be on the horiz Horizon for Boston I know you had thoughts on the Red Sox off season so two-part question just speak on that but also if you can clear up any of these rumors that are swirling and what people may be winking at right now uh that’s the that’s the thing I’m wondering if we might get something bosson related by the end of the show yeah I don’t know if if anything is coming necessarily with the Red Sox quite yet but the point I wanted to make is the Red Sox have to do something they are a team who has preached continuously throughout the entire offseason that they want to spend that they will spend they went after Max freed they made a competitive $190 million bid with potentially some deferred money in there that was they finished in second place there they tried for Shane Bieber they made a competitive offer I believe it was even more than what the Guardians ended up paying Bieber uh over the one-year contract did not get that done they were in Al Juan stto did not get him they’ve tried but you can only try so much without succeeding because the fan base is clearly losing patience right now and I don’t blame them consider what’s happened the previous two off Seasons go out and get a Corbin Burns go out and get another star maybe an Alex bregman we’ve seen the reports about dividing that front office which that was a it was interesting that that that ended up getting out but the Red Sox they have to do something it’s like it’s either put up or shut up at this point go out and get a star player maybe even two of them make that fan base happy and be in a position to compete next year because you have a prime opportunity with the Yankees losing Juan stto go out and get that division because there’s plenty of talented teams there but it’s it’s there for the taking the Red Sox didn’t get woto that’s weird I heard that his sister was shopping for apartments in Boston they didn’t end up securing that deal okay well that’s interesting uh either way Corbin Burns obviously the next big name to drop although Kyle Tucker took the headlines a little bit today that does that has to get done relatively soon and it feels like Toronto Boston San Francisco in there um we had someone up top ask about the angels in Burn um I guess I I will tie you know let’s do burns market now because I know you’re looking at the Red Sox we also just had an angels Super Chat uh and we thank you for that asking about uh you know potential offense potential additions for the Angels so two-part question the burns market right now and then we heard that rumor yesterday about an angels outfielder we heard about movement nothing ended up going down I mean any thoughts on the Angels making additions yeah as far as the go I’ll start with them uh there was a report yesterday that the Angels were close to trading an outfielder and I checked with numerous different people and they did not know what that was about I am under the impression that was uh not accurate information that the angels have never been close to trading one of their outfielders they have been hit on Taylor Ward plenty this offseason last offseason uh last trade deadline but they have not come close to moving him and to my knowledge any of their other outfielders so I don’t know where that came from but we can put that one to bed but as far as the rest of the angels’s offseason goes they are going to be opportunistic in the market they’re going to continue to look to upgrade all sorts of different parts of the roster as I’ve said on the show continuously um I think catching is the only position that really is not like up for grabs right now um but other other than that I would I would say that the angels are going to be looking to make different moves to upgrade all parts of the roster I’m still skeptical that like a Burns type will be in play there um even another star I don’t think they’re going to be in that market unless something changes or an Ask comes down to the point where they can like get involved there so I would temper expectations but I can I’d expect Perry to continue to be active in that market as far as the rest of the burns Market goes we’ve heard throughout the entire offseason about like the Yankees who I can’t imagine they’re gonna be in now after getting Max freed yesterday I still think the Toronto Blue Jays make plenty of sense there the Boston Red Sox have been involved to some extent um the Giants have been mentioned as said on the show yesterday um I don’t I’m still unsure about like how much I buy that buzz um although I mean stranger things have happened I mean it makes plenty of sense Burns grew up in that area he’s got plenty of ties to the California area the Giants need another piece in the rotation I’m not ruling It Out by any means but I’m just I’m still unsure about How likely that one is and then the Orioles have been mentioned there as well so I would look at those teams possibly even a couple others as well to be involved in the burns Market as of about 90 minutes ago I was told that nothing was close with Burns so that take that for for whatever it’s worth as I as I like to say as the people in the Discord like to joke around um I like to say that uh everything can change with one phone call that is especially true at the winner beings but as of as of 90 minutes ago Burns was not close to signing yeah famous last words on burns but obviously we will keep everywhere if we hear anything uh something that did get done last night Max breed and and that leads into and pairs nicely with your discussion of the Red Sox offseason because we’ve got the offers now the Yankees go ahead and secure him for eight years $218 million way less money being exchanged in the first two years uh Joel Sherman notes 12 million each of those first two seasons so even more flexibility there’s a signing bonus as well but the Red Sox had 7190 with deferrals the Rangers got in there at 71 90ish purportedly and then they go get Nathan Aldi as soon as the freed news does drop uh and as soon as the Yankees do sign freed and sacrifice those draft picks and sacrifice that International money people start talking about Christian Walker Every Yankee fan has Christian has sources saying the Yankees and Christian Walker are uh working on a three-year deal so let’s talk freed a little bit and just how that came together but what is next for the New York Yankees and what does Walker’s market look like because you reported earlier today plenty of teams in there yeah yeah so starting with freed uh he signaled he and his Camp ended up signaling to teams that they’re they they wanted to sign here at the winter meetings and there was plenty of different teams involved it was funny on the show yesterday I I said it was down to the Yankees in the Red Sox and then I found out shortly thereafter there was a mystery team involved and that team L and behle was the Texas Rangers they were very seriously in the bidding for Max freed they really liked him they were trying to backload the contract um similar to what they ended up doing with Nathan yaldi But ultimately he ended up going to the going to the Yankees the eighth year is what ended up getting it done and it was 1 million dollars over what David Price ended up getting and it was a deal that the Yankees had to do after losing Juan stto to my knowledge the Yankees are not done um but quickly thereafter the Rangers ended up pivoting to Nathan yaldi gave him 25 million a year that was a very strong contract for eovaldi and the Rangers they ended up getting Jake Berger last night to my knowledge they are not done they continue to be active and looking for Bullpen help and and among other things um but as far as as chrisan Walker goes he is drawing plenty of interest from the New York Yankees the Washington Nationals um and other teams I am told he is engaged with multiple teams as of this morning um I did not get the impression last night that anything was close with the Yankees um but there is plenty of interest in Walker and a three is year deal for around 20 million a year I think is the sweet spot for a guy like Christian Walker he will do very well in free agency there should be plenty of there should be plenty of other teams involved for Christian Walker I look at the Seattle Mariners as a team that should be involved for Christian Walker and the fact that they’re to my knowledge that they’re not um is really frustrating because you look at that pitching staff they have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball and they’re not going to go unless something changes they’re not going to go out and spend big dollars on a big bat um that is that’s a that’s shameful is what it is because they have an opportunity to really take hold of that division um they’re not and they have a prime opportunity and it kind of feels like they’re letting it go to waste agreed and and the Pete Alonzo Market factors into that Seattle Pursuit too I saw somebody commenting about the market believe it was our friend MLB deadline news saying that Market’s not materializing in the way they expected I would agree in that man Alonzo Seattle uh glabber Torres Seattle I’m not sure why Seattle would not do both of those things of the opportunities fall into their lap but we’ll update everyone as we get closer to Christian Walker resolution hopefully um got to ask about and there was a question in the All-Star Channel about this but we were going to cover it anyway uh late last night uh the Jays and the Guardians hook up on Andre Jimenez for Spencer Horwitz and we’re all like okay uh that’s odd that’s a salary dump from Cleveland I guess gold three-time gold Glover Platinum Glover fan favorite Horwitz Lefty swing in first baseman with a lot of power but then what happens to Josh Naylor what happens to Kyle manzardo like what what are we doing uh and then late in the night flipped goes to the pyats Horwitz to Pittsburgh Ortiz and two prospects from Pittsburgh to Cleveland so get Luis Ortiz in the pitching Factory there in Cleveland uh but the not not a high K guy sort of a you know five pitch mix polished type uh you know intriguing but their you know opinions vary on his value and clearly Surplus for Pittsburgh Horwitz crushes righties struggles with lefties 27y old lot of pop but might be a platoon bat at first I mean overall a wonky trade that probably ended up with the best player in Toronto but I still don’t like it for them so open to thoughts on this huge swamp yeah I’ll start with with the Pirates here they the Pirates have for two years they have really liked Spencer Horwitz they’ve tried trading for him with the Toronto Blue Jays to no avail they were never able to line up on value and they tried again earlier this off season and it did not work yet again they were exploring other options both in trade and for agency uh but were not able to get anything done there and then they ended up finding out at some point recently that the trade with the Guardians was was likely going through and quickly after Horwitz ended up going to the Guardians the two sides engaged in trade talks and they quickly ended up getting Horwitz and he is a player that they they really coveted he’s a player that they envisioned being their primary first baseman uh being their long-term guy hopefully for them and it’s the start of an off season where the Pirates they need to go out and add more to the offense because last year offense was their biggest issue Horwitz is only a piece of that puzzle I expect them to do more but as far as what they wanted to do organizationally for first base this was one if not their top options and they ended up getting it done last night and a late night deal uh that sent shock waves throughout baseball it sure did and it answered a lot of questions for a lot of pirates fans that we’ve been answering for for quite a while so very helpful you did mention in in a column yesterday that they’re also in the catching Market we just got a question about that uh is that tied from Ethan Fischer solely to yasman gr doll or do they actually want to add there they got a lot of catchers in that room so any Clarity you could provide there I think would probably go be appreciated by Pirates fans too no for sure I don’t think the Pirates are necessarily the most likely landing spot for like for a guy like yman grandala or even some of these other guys I know there is plenty of fans of yasm grandal in that front office and they they had talks early in the offseason so like there there was interest there for sure but I am under the impression that is probably not the most likely thing I think they use their money to go on other parts of the roster and and rightfully so considering their catching depth um but if he cons if he continue to linger on the market then maybe that could end up being something that comes into play but I don’t expect Grundel to linger so I would expect him to go elsewhere besides Pittsburgh okay very helpful uh let’s open up your notebook and then we’ll move on to a couple additional questions anything else that you’ve picked up on the ground in Dallas before you leave that Merritt’s mentioning and then I’ll pull in a couple of more teams that people are clamoring for yeah I would say the biggest thing that I’ve I’ve heard about the last 24 hours has been the Kyle Tucker buzz and it’s it’s been it’s it’s real they are listening that does not necessarily mean a trade is going to happen but they are listening there’s plenty of interest there and when there’s this widespread of Interest I think that that merits a deal possibly happening um I would also look for after the rule five draft maybe some deals end up getting reported um that’s typically something that ends up happening uh year and a year out I know I’ll probably be dropping one here in the not so distant future I’m I’m not saying it’s anything too crazy um but it’s um I mean it’s it’s a signing it’s a major league signing which is which is always good I know there’s there’s been some movement also in the infielder market um there’s been let’s see there’s been some other movement in the starting pitching Market as well um we maybe we have some some news to report over the next 48 hours we’ll see but that is currently what I’ve what I’ve got in the notebook right now kind of along the lines of what I’m tracking perfect we touch t on all the big names I just want to throw a couple more teams in here um had another Angels person ask about the Aron and Gaber Torres connections that we’ve seen recently and I think Aon merits mentioning because his supposed list of teams he’d approve a trade to came out yesterday you got the Dodgers uh angels in there mostly win now Red Soxs you know he says he wants to win now but also the Angels showed up there so Southern California makes sense but any light you can shed on those angels connections and the Aon a list in total yeah as far as your Aron a list the like so he wants to win I don’t know why he want to go to the angels if he wants to win so that that to me doesn’t necessarily make the most sense um we he’s obviously got the list of teams that he wants to go to but there’s only so many teams who can take on that payroll or or take on that salary I should say there’s only so many teams who have a fit for what he provides either third base or or first base um he like as I’ve said I expect him to get traded but I don’t necessarily see the fit there with the angels that doesn’t make much sense to me um I guess so I guess we’ll see but I I don’t know that’s that is a weird one to me okay perfect um I also we’re trying to help guys we are yeah U got a couple of Braves questions Buzz is there literally anything to report on the Braves uh and we’ve also got Jacob Harline just Brave uh so Braves folks who are you know reeling from the loss of Max freed and AJ Minter is also rumored to potentially be departing although nothing official there yet any buzz on the Braves uh looking to add this offseason yeah the the the names that I’ve heard them connected to mostly revolve around the starting pitching market and they I mean they’ve had conversations with with different agents about different starting pitchers so I look for their to be part of where they end up looking uh I think Bullpen obviously makes plenty of sense there as well um maybe they find some ways to to add some reinforcements maybe in the Outfield get some insurance with aunu coming back obviously um coming off of a serious injury you could always want to have some insurance there but um as the one thing about Alex anthopoulos is he keeps a very tight lipped ship over there and is very hard to come across brav dope um but starting pitching is the one I’ve most consistently heard with them uh I heard also that he runs a tight Li ship so I’m going to spread that if anybody wants to aggregate that you you can aggregate that as well yeah no I I’ll tell you he’s uh he’s about as secretive as the kits when it comes to GMS he is yeah every I see a lot of brace fans joking about it on Twitter uh that is it is not wrong he is as secretive As It Gets in baseball so the Red Sox gar crochet thing that’s coming up in the in the comments is actually legitimate Julian McWilliams tweeted Source the Red Sox are on the verge of trading for Garrett crochet the deal includes top prospect Kyle teal none of the other bigname prospects Kyle uh of course North Carolina or sorry University of Virginia baseball graduate uh longtime player I’ve admired and uh will purportedly be going to the white sock if Julian McWilliams report can be confirmed uh so thoughts on that obviously it develop hang on I’m sending text yeah um well we appreciate uh thanks for alerting us and it does appear to have have serious legs uh so we will uh we’ll figure out what we can get on H legit okay perfect first first breaking news uh on this show in quote a while and that is a huge one do you have an instant reaction there um wow the red as I said on the show The Red Sox needed to do something they absolutely had to to make a big move they had to make a big splash and they did it major props to Craig breslo um Red Sox fans I said before that they were losing patience that was that was inaccurate they lost patience and now the Red Sox are finally on the board Landing the biggest name on the market for starting pitching it is a groundbreaking deal I’m fascinated to see exactly who’s going back in return but this was a move the Red Sox had to make and wow I cannot wait to see the final return I am trying to get it as we speak um what a time for this to break holy Toledo passen says deal is in the medical phase not official but trending toward it uh so as close as we can get to official without official uh so everybody keep uh yeah keep keep stay tuned there Garett crochet uh the breakout starter of the 2024 season first half for sure lost that durability down the stretch a little bit uh walk year so you think the Red Sox have to extend him and that’s what you can do if you miss out on Max freed that is one hell of a pivot so uh good job by the Boston Red Sox there and good job keeping uh what we’d heard was that this crochet trade package was going to be massive we heard that it was you know they were asking on Casas and Abu and Connor Wong and Meyer and everybody laughed at me for calling him marello the other day and you know Braden Montgomery and Christian Campbell it looks like I mean teal is a catcher with a great hit tool not sure if the power’s GNA come leadership skills there’s a lot to like about teal but he’s the headliner of the package and that means I’m not sure if a is going to be a part of this and I’m not sure if I I would highly doubt kasas is going to be a part of this it would seem like Chicago maybe relented a little bit here and realized okay we have to prioritize getting a deal done rather than squeezing yeah they absolutely had to prioritize getting a deal done here and this was a move where uh okay sorry I thought I had something there uh but this they had they all the signals throughout the entire winter meetings was that they were going to end up moving G crochet it was just a matter of when when not if and they had to maximize the trade package if they’re getting Kyle teal um that is um oh hang on this is a crazy time for this to break yeah well we uh we understand we’re doing all we can and obviously Robert has some business to attend to so yes no but as far as like they had to they had to make this move and I give them a lot of for not pulling the trigger at the trade deadline because there was opportunities for them to do it but if they’re getting Kyle teal and if they’re end up getting anywhere close to what their asking price was then they absolutely made the right decision holding on to them and waiting for the offseason being patient like that and even risking an injury that’s like there’s a lot of risk there but they possibly ended up doing a very strong deal here we’re trying to get all the all the terms here it’s going to be kind of hard for all these names to come out especially with us being in the medical phase because teams really want players to find out from them and not through the media um but I give Chris gets a lot of credit because he got a lot of flack for his deals at the deadline especially that three team trade um but so far the all the signs are is that they end up doing a really good deal here and as I said I’m fascinated to see the full return uh yeah there’s nothing better than the couple of minutes when you know a trade’s going to break and you’re waiting for the full return obviously uh big time Edition by the Boston Red Sox crochets first Year’s full time starter last year and it went extremely well uh and as MLB deadline news noted the Red Sox getting a lefty starter from the white sock is proof that time is a flat circle much like Matthew mccon once said uh Garrick crochet is the new Chris Sale unfortunately for boss and they’re GNA have to pay him much sooner than they had to pay sale this is essentially a one-year audition or you can take care of it right now I remember last year uh catcher Kyle teal will be the key piece I’m just getting more notifications than all anybody has his teal so we have to uh we have to figure that out um but yes uh so far this is what we know we appreciate everybody sticking with us and you got to see some wild news break live on the show we hope to be back tomorrow afternoon same time uh or potentially a little bit earlier I think 12:30 Eastern we’re aiming for we will wrap up the whole winter meetings on Friday uh the rule five is about to go down 2 o’clock Eastern what do you expect the rest of the day to look like Robert do anything going to have any bearing on when news breaks or is it just going to be totally random it’s just going to be totally random I mean there’s going to be some stuff that comes out probably after the rule five um but after that it’s going to be just as as as it’s been the last few days it’s going to be random there’s going to be just stuff that comes out at at whatever time whenever it gets done um but yeah it’s it’s just going to be it’s going to be business as normal the rule five is about as boring as of a thing as it gets I will not be in attendance for that there’s just so kind of a big waste of time if I’m being honest um
