welcome back to the Center on Buffalo podcast we’re joined by a friend of the show and that’s s capacho my broadcast partner s welcome to the podcast brother all right great to be back on with you buddy uh Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family of course yeah likewise likewise how uh how did you guys enjoy the bye I know you guys went out to California we did we had a great time um you know every year when the schedule comes out one of the first things I think both of us look for is when is the by we right because you know it’s for competitive purposes and for for the and for you know what does our life look like and every year when the by week happens we try to get away a little bit and if we can get to Florida because we have family and friends there it’s great especially if it’s in November or something like that well I also I also like to kind of match it up and see are the sabes doing anything maybe we could take a little trip and sure enough this year happen to notice Sabres are in San Jose the weekend of the bills by week and I’m like oh my God how cool would that be go to California get some warm weather watch a Sabers game so we planned it and then you know how things work well we’re going to go out there might as well do this do that went to San Francisco Alcatraz San Jose Shark Sabers game Napa um it was incredibly rainy though like record rains for San Francisco while we’re there for a couple of days but that only lasted about a day and a half and then it was okay weather it wasn’t great and we still were able to do everything we wanted to do we had a great time it was pretty awesome good good let’s give a quick Sabers update they’re sitting at what 1191 they’re uh in the playoffs as it sits right now now they hold the longest playoff drought in all of the NHL so what do you think the chances are that they can break that drought this year yeah and tied with the New York Jets were the longest in professional North American Sports right now by the way right the last time the Sabers were in was the last time the Jets were in and it doesn’t look like the Jets are going to break their drought so maybe the Sabers can make it look I I like the way they’re playing right now let’s remember 11 n and one they lost our first three games they were in Europe they came back and lost they were 0 and three since then they’ve been 116 and one which is a nice record you know I think a lot was made about Lindy Ruff being hired as a maybe a Sentimental coach and you know reach to the P Lindy ruff’s a good freaking NHL coach he’s done a lot of winning and I think he’s really starting to figure this team out what’s really impressive to me Eric is you know much like we talk about with the bills as a transition here with Shawn mcdermit was able to do with the defense last year despite all the injuries they’re winning games without Tage Thompson on the ice they want won three in California he hasn’t played he’s coming back as we talk here uh the night before Thanksgiving he’s going to come back and play against the wild I like this team right now I I like the position that you look the way they’re playing the way they’re trending still a lot of hockey to play they’re young um you know we’ll see if they can ultimately get over the hump when it comes time in January and February but just to be there and be in the mix it’s a lot better than what it’s been the last few years I know what I know it and I’m ready for them to like get back going and create just additional buzz in Buffalo when the bills and sabes are good I mean it’s it’s just epic in Buffalo and so I I’m ready for that those those home Savers games are so much fun to go to and when the crowd’s there and the Energy’s there it just adds on to it hopping back to the bills they get their signature win against Kansas City you get to enjoy it through the bye I know sha MC thury gave them six nights off I believe which was a lot more than he gave us off in 2017 and uh I gave him a lot of crap about that I told him he was being soft on the guys and all that he said we we’re in a different situation now I said I realize that Sean I realize it’s a different situation he also of course remembers he’s like that was an early buy too early buys you don’t need as much time off and so I’ll give him that but I still like to give Sean as much I was just thinking about that I’m like in 2017 I’m GNA look right now oh that was a week six by so you know you guys have a had a long grind after that you came back after the buy Sean’s been great after the buy by the way seven and0 seven and0 coming off the buy it’s amazing that first year you guys beat the Bucks that’s Trey white punching the ball out at the end of the game uh the fumble and then you beat the Oakland Raiders um come out of the buy and you win those two games and you had a long grind and I agree this buy is later than normal and I like that for this team I like that for competitive purposes and advantages you know to kind of get healthier as the team goes on plus let’s be honest they’ve been banged up a little bit they kind of needed this buy to reset a little bit to get the roster back to kind of where it needed to go do you think this is the week we see Matt Milano back in the lineup that’s the big question right um I do I I wonder Eric how much that is but right you know operationally so everybody knows who’s listening um the bills have until Saturday at 4M to activate him if they want him to play on Sunday if they don’t activate him but don’t worry they have until next Wednesday the 21-day window would then expire so they could wait until next week and say let’s do it next week um and then he can play against the LA Rams um I anticipate him being activated I think the question from there is does he actually they do have a spot on the roster they’ve only had they only have 52 right now so you save that spot for Matt you activate him by Saturday 4M and the question is does he actually suit up and play or is he a game day inactive if you’re going to do it I think you’re going to do it the question is then how much he actually plays and I think from there that’s going to be really I’m super fascinated about how they play that I’ve always thought that when Matt comes back he’s the starting whe linebacker yes now it doesn’t mean it’s week one necessarily comes back but I do think that once they are confident that he’s ready to play you know a full boatload of snaps I think that he gets inserted back as the will linebacker he is the starter Dorian Williams has been filling in as the backup yeah and then it’ll be interesting to see if they get to some three linebacker sets it could be against San Francisco who if Brock P doesn’t play they’ll have to rely on the Run game heavily you could get three linebacker sets out there I don’t love the thought of going to a three linebacker set too often because then maybe your best player on defense Taran Johnson would likely come off the field there’s teams like the Colts who mov the slot Corner outside but then you’re taking Douglas or Benford off the field and you’re likely not putting Taran Johnson back on the back end and playing him in the safety role so it’ll be interesting to see how they roll that out there but you know Dorian Williams has played played well this year I’ve been really encouraged with his growth this season and so it’s going to be interesting to see how that all shakes out and you know having a guy backing up and adorian Williams who also then enhances your special teams likely but having him as a backup and in case of injury you know you have a guy that’s got a ton of experience that’s a great spot to be in right now but I’m I’m excited to see 58 out on the field and I mean that Ovation that he’s going to get after all that he’s been through coming off the knee injy then you have the bicep tear I mean all of that coming back it’s going to be fun to see him out there and then you also could get back Coleman cancade Spencer Brown this is a team that’s getting healthier yes they’ve been banged up this year but a lot of the injuries that they’ve had are guys that can come back off those injuries later in the season and then you hope that if they come back fully healthy now you got a guy with some fresh legs ready to take this final stretch of the Season yeah let me go back to Matt Milano a couple things you touched on you’re right like people I’ve heard people compare it to well he is 30 and look what happened with travius white and I get it like he is 30 he hasn’t played in 13 months but he’s also not coming off off a knee and ailles injury at a position that’s requiring so much you know back and forth and stress on on those legs necessarily to change direction and run with people you know down the field so in Matt Milano we know that he’s taking care of his body he’s you know the guy is incredibly you know uh dedicated to being able to do that and I I think that you know putting him back let’s it’s a bicep injury right I mean like yes that’s obviously something you want to be concerned with when he’s coming back to make sure but it gave three months for the leg to heal too that’s kind of the Silver Lining here for that the other thing is what you said about the Ovation so the last time we saw the bills at home against Kansas City they introduced the offense so my guess is they’re going to introduce the defense on Sunday night can you imagine if Matt Milan was introduced with the starting defense with that’s going to be like national television and a bit of a snow globe atmosphere with the snow coming down it’s going to be amazing it’s getting chills down my spine thinking about it you brought up dton con I mean it’s been a couple of weeks here I don’t know how close he was he didn’t practice at all a couple of weeks ago so we’ll see but you would think that he’s at least trending towards you know they it didn’t seem like anything super serious Spencer Brown was close enough where I’d be stunned if he didn’t you know play this week obviously and then Keon Coleman’s interesting because even if he’s getting back to practice it’ll be three weeks off close to a month you wonder if they put him out on the field remember when Taran and Terrell came back they gave him an extra week before they actually put him back on the field right I wonder if you know that something and then the other guy that we have to talk about Dwayne Carter has now served his four games on IR yeah they could get him back at some point here it’s coming up as well and he was playing some really good football before he hurt his wrist so yeah the bills are getting healthy at the right time so when I look on the Weather Channel right now if you look on the Weather Channel app right now it’s saying like one to three inches you know maybe Saturday Sunday what type of forecast are we looking at through the weekend because I was doing a w ubn hit earlier today and before I went on their radio for That interview they were talking about possible Lake Effects though okay so we all know that neither Eric or I are meteorologists here we like to play them on the radio and podcast sometime that’s right we are and I have been in contact with Pat Hammer obviously and uh Pat Hammer is goingon to be on my radio show as he has every Friday I have a my show will be on Friday this week Black Friday as normal I’ll have shamic DER at 1045 we’ll get the injury update on wgr sports radio 550 that’s always the best time like we get the breaking news on injuries and that’s going to be awesome to hear what he says about Matt Milano maybe um and then Pat Hammer always comes on at 11:30 now I’ve been in contact with Pat and you know these things are always tricky as Pat will tell you from my understanding from Reading from listening and all that kind of stuff um there’s going to be a pretty significant Lake Effect uh situation going on maybe Friday night into Saturday and even into Sunday it’s mainly goingon to be south of Buffalo some in Buffalo is gonna hit it but that’s where your Park is south of Buffalo how far south how far north is the question how much each area is going to get is the question it’s going to be if you’re coming up south from eie from Pennsylvania from Jamestown it’s going to be dicey you’re going to get a lot of snow it’s going to be very tricky travel situation if you’re coming from the north it’s not going to be as bad but once you hit that wall and you get rich around you know Orchard Park and Hamburg that’s where I think the question is going to come in you talk about one to three inches I’ve seen up to maybe a foot or more in like those places south of Buffalo so I think it just really depends on that I think we’re we’re definitely bracing for snow at some point you know in Orchard Park even during the game I think the question is how much and then obviously the impact on travel for people yeah yeah I’m going to pack my snow boots and and Pray My Flights get in I’m coming in a day early and it’s a night game so if it’s a plain strains an automobile situation I I’m I’m gonna get there we’ll just well you’re not flying into the Jamestown airport right you’re flying into chaga so that would be good I I would think that hopefully travel-wise for you and anybody flying in would be okay but you know how things work you know around the country this is not just in Buffalo this going to affect the the Lake Erie cities right and clevel and up through Erie so obviously travel could be impacted so I I I think we’re going to be um we’re going to be looking at a game that it’s gonna have some snow involved it’s also gonna be probably a little Breezy and uh some pretty you know wintry like conditions I guess for the first time we can’t complain Eric we’ve had great great weather games this year and then we have two Dome games coming up after this yeah yeah so uh you playing your role on the sideline during the game you’re going to be bundled up this week but then catch a break with LA then you know Dome game so yeah yeah so so we’ll be all right all right so when you look at this San Francisco game coming up and in the remaining let’s just let’s just kind of throw it out there the bills can clinch the division this week and and we’ll likely know tomorrow night Thanksgiving night uh whether the bills can clinch just because uh if the Dolphins lose their next game to the Packers on Thanksgiving then if the Bills beat the 49ers they will have clinched the division but they got a lot more to play for they have the shot at the one seed especially now that they beat Kansas City and they hold that tiebreaker when you look at the remaining kind of schedule for both these teams because if the bills handle their business the only team they’re really worried about right now is Kansas City the way it shakes out what do you think the chances are the bills getting that one seed I still think it’s less than you know 50% I guess right I think it’s more likely Kansas City I think that’s what the the betting you know would tell you as well because they are in a better position and if you look at Kansas City as much as they have a couple games where they could trip up um you know their schedule seems pretty favorable for them to be you know they’ll be favored in all their games now there are some areas where I would say that let me say it this way Eric if the bills are still within one game after the next three if they’re within one game with three to go I think I like their chances but they have to be within one within one game with three to go and the reason I say that is because the next three games for the bills are are their toughest of the of the six if you take a look at the schedule literally their next three and then there’s three it goes it’s it’s San Fran defending NSC Champs at LA Rams they can be hot and cold they have talent and they’re fighting for a division obviously and then they go to Detroit which is you know going to be a really monster test for the bills and they’re not going to be favored in that game but then they get New England twice in the Jets well if you go to those last three games you’re still within Striking Distance I think it’s very possible because you look at Kansas City’s last three games as opposed to their next three Kansas City their next three they Black Friday against the Raiders they should take care of business but the Raiders do play them tough they do have the Chargers to who have good defense they do have the Browns but after that Eric they have the Texans they the Steelers on just four days later on Christmas going to Pittsburgh and then they have the Denver Broncos who are really starting to play some good football right now I think the bills have to be within one game with three to play and I think it’s doable I think that’s a challenge though because man I the bills going to Detroit to win if as I sit here right now I don’t know if I can pick the bills to go to Detroit and win Detroit’s going to be they’re incredible on both sides of the ball they’re also going to be on 10 days rest they’re gonna come off a Thursday game playing that game against the bills which is a nice competitive Advantage for them so I don’t love their chances getting the one seed but I still think it’s very very reasonable it could happen yeah I think Vegas right now has it at Kansas City 50% and then bills 38% so not far off and it went dramatically up obviously when the bills took care of business so who would be the would it be the Steelers there would be the other I think team that would be in the mix because they still play Kansas City and they’re only a game behind the bills right yeah and I think it would be uh Steelers have the next highest shot and then it’s kind of just if all falls apart you know for Kansas City and buffalo there’s the remaining you know however many percent when you go beyond uh the Steelers and and one thing depending how this all shakes out it could dramatically affect Josh Allen’s MVP chances as well if the bills are playing those last three games they don’t necessarily have to win them if they have the two seed locked up if they’re locked into three seed whatever it is that could defect that could affect Josh Allen’s MVP chances and that’s where I want to take this conversation let’s take a quick break to hear from one of our sponsors and that’s Danos seasoning you got to check out the new purple top the cinjun seasoning is out it’s going to go great on wings any type of dish you’re bringing a whole new type of flavor with this cinjun seasoning all natural no sugar and this one is a GameChanger go get you some Danos seasoning. a retailer near you and when you do you know you got that yum yum get you some how do you see this MVP race shaking out right now Josh Allen is the betting favorite number two is Lamar Jackson who’s having a better statistical season which is kind of the opposite of last year was Lamar is the favorite Josh Allen having more total touchdowns now the narrative was out week won when Josh had four turnovers against the Jets that he has too many turnovers and all these people that have the votes I believe made up their mind after week one last last season after that Monday Night Football game that Josh Allen is not the MVP he turns the ball over too much number three his odds went from five plus 5,000 to plus 475 so dramatic increase for saquan Barkley so right now that’s kind of the three horse race for the MVP how do you see this shaking out this is a really interesting conversation isn’t it I mean we’ve been down this road we all know how valuable Josh is and how great he is and what he means to the Buffalo Bills and I think we could make the argument over the last few years that you know maybe he should have received it or not but not to take anything away from Lamar last year and what he did and um the seasons that other players have had that have won it over Josh I would say this though I do think and you brought it up there is an inherent bias and voters with two things number one turnovers for quarterbacks when you look at a number that has a a big turnover number I think that for some reason a lot of Voters are still very old school Eric and think well he turns the ball over too much whoever that is I can’t vote for him for MVP whereas we know look at that’s the way Josh plays and we we will take that because all of the positive he gives you even with some of the turnovers he’s had in his in his career the the good far outweighs the bad so you can give me a turnover a bad turnover a bad interception a bad fumble because I’m going to get three incredible plays to turn into touchdowns from Chon because of that so I think from us being close up to it we know that but that’s just not how voters think it’s unfortunate because I think they’re just stuck in this old school mentality of turnovers are so bad we can’t vote for somebody who has you know a high turnover rate which has really hurt Josh but what’s happened this year he’s been so good at protecting the ball oh coincidentally now he’s the MVP favorite right because I think people see this is hey I I can vote for a guy who’s G to take care of the football I just think it’s a bad way to think but it’s actually actually helping joshh the other thing actually does help Josh here I also think there’s an inherent bias against Running Backs from voters yeah and I think I might agree with that I get it like saquon’s having an amazing year to me he might be the NFL offensive player of the year but to give a running back at MVP even I fall into this I don’t know if I can do that in the year 2024 like how much are you really losing and gaining between Running Backs from different teams when they go out and you have you know above replacement maybe I’m the one that’s naive or old school too much about it because I know that saquan has been amazing I’m not taking anything away and I know that you know the narrative on and the talk about the Giants letting him go and he goes to the Philadelphia Eagles but I I think that there are too many voters who also think like that and say I just I’m not giving it to a running back and even then even if they do there are some people who would say well I might give it to Herz over you know sequan they might divide up some votes there but I think that plays into Josh’s favor that the fact that even though sequan is having this great year and he’s getting a lot of momentum they probably aren’t enough voters I think that would want to give it to a running back right there hasn’t been a running back MVP since Adrien Peterson in 2012 and then when you look at the pace that saquon’s on now I’ll say this if he goes out and breaks Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record you know that’s going to put him heavily in the conversation and and then it becomes dicey he’s also on Pace to break Chris Johnson’s single season allpurpose yards record right now now can he keep this pace we’ll see I mean teams are going to start fully focusing on him now does that help Herz in the passing game on the outside probably but teams are going to start focusing on him so much just with this pacy on right now back to the point about Josh Allen in the turnovers I almost feel like uh some of the maybe arrogance of the voters saying well Josh Josh H us last year he heard us in our media appearances say that he turns the ball over too much and now he’s playing like we want him to play and how he should have been playing and some of it’s the stylistic approach of the bills right now they’re throwing a ton of screens and they’re not to the running backs a ton of screens to the wide receivers and we’ve seen Josh pick up a ton of yards after the catch this season especially from guys like Shakir those guys have really helped Josh’s numbers but they’ve given Josh some just easy Outlet throws within games where he’s not just having to push the ball down the field Josh break the pocket and make a play down the field they’ve gotten out of that approach so much that it’s really helped his turnover no yeah and and I’ll say this too because of the saquin conversation wasn’t this the same conversation a month and a half ago about Derrick Henry like Derrick Henry was the guy that we were talking about but then you have Lamar on his team right you look at the Eagles and they have they have both saquin and Jaylen Herz and Jaylen Herz has had some ups and downs but he’s playing really good football right now and then you have obviously Lamar who’s an MVP you know candidate and one of the favorites and Derrick Henry’s having this great season and I just think that the way it works sometimes you’re going to have a lot of people kind of trying toci dissect what’s going on with those teams and who’s the most valuable and who you give it to I don’t think there’s any there’s no debate on the Buffalo Bills it’s not like Josh Allen’s going against his own teammate James Cook who’s having a nice year but James Cook isn’t the most valuable player on the bills and none none of the wide receivers it’s Josh Allen this team is nine and two and Josh Allen is I’m notna say the reason of course there’s a lot of reasons for it but that’s the guy right I mean you look at these other teams and they have these players at these other positions quarterback and running back and AJ Brown you know in Philadelphia and what he’s doing when he’s healthy and I just think that any you know rational voter would look and say oh my God in a year where the bills we were all told Eric going to take a step back right step back reset rebuild whatever transition even Brandon Bean said transition year however you want to take that in a year like that here they are with their best record after 11 games since 1992 the best start in the mcdermit bean era yeah and you also had Josh have a signature moment those signature moments count it was Lamar Jackson in his first MVP uh win when he took off down the middle of the field he spins out against the Bengals and takes it to the house that was his signature MVP moment I believe Josh’s was uh his final 26- yard run against the Chiefs to seal the game and then I believe if Josh plays well against the Lions which is gonna I mean the bills had the most the bills Chiefs game had the highest uh number of viewers since 2007 or 2008 it was a Colts Patriots matchup So it’s 15 years amazing know 16 17 years later that’s the the highest number of viewers and so that that bills Lions game could catch some serious ratings as well if Josh is able to have a nice game in Detroit I think he seals the deal there because as hard as it is it’s not like it’s not like college football where one game can take you out of it if you have a serious MVP moment again against the Lions I think it’s over Josh Allen takes it this year and look Josh is going to tell you I don’t care about the MVP I don’t care about Pro Bowl I don’t care about the All Pro I care about winning a championship well you know what I care I care for Josh because I felt like he’s deserved in the past I felt like he should have been way more in the conversation last year when he had 51 total touchdowns to LaMar’s 34 I understand the turnovers there when you put the team on your back like he did last year on that final stretch they went five in a row to win the division get the two seed I just feel like he should have been more in the conversation last year and I want it for him and you know what he’s going to tell you he doesn’t care well Eric wood cares I know and I know it’ mean a lot to Bill’s fans as well Eric and I’m sure he’s gonna say that I’m sure Jos Ellen would love it though right he’d love to win the MVP of course he would who wouldn’t want to have you know an honor honor like that bestowed upon him no doubt about it it’s not the end Al beia he his goal is to win a Super Bowl we all know that but I do think there are Clues this year that we I’ve picked up on going back to even August when even Shawn mcder well Josh has goals he had I remember he said that at some point Josh has you know personal goals as well however he phrased it and then I remember a few weeks ago we were in the locker room and Dion Dawkins mentioned something like you know we really wanna you know what what Josh you know what we want for Josh or something the way he phrased it got me thinking I think they want it for him I think the Bill’s organization I think his players his teammates I think they all know like we got an MVP here let’s get this guy the MVP and yes we all know that’s not trumping winning a Super Bowl but I think it matters in that building and why wouldn’t it right I mean the bills have only had one MVP in their history that was Thurman Thomas in the 1990s an NFL MVP to have an MVP in your building an MVP player is an amazing accomplishment for any organization why would they not want that and I’m sure they do I think it matters his teammates I think Josh would love to have an MVP it’s not the thing that he’s after more than anything it’s a Super Bowl but I do think it matters and and they’re G they’re not going to come out and say that because that’s not just how people talk and certainly not how this organization and the people associated with it talk but I think it matters to everybody down there yeah I think so as well and Josh says all the right things but he is a ball buster he’s Petty and to win it this year when Diggs leaves and everyone says you know he was the reason for your success look at his being number one trash talker and now maybe MVP right I mean like yeah I think number one overrated whatever remember that stuff yeah number one overrated player in the NFL also voted the number one trash talker in the NFL and then you lose digs and you’re going to do it with this Everybody Eats mentality which in weeks four and five was mocked and everyone said well everybody eats well nobody eats when you play a good team well now look and I think that just behind closed doors uh the the pettiness uh that that Josh can that Josh can possess and and pro athletes in general I mean you w to you you live to throw St in people’s faces and so um I think it would mean a lot to him to let me ask especially win it this year do you I I I wonder and why I don’t get why sha mcder is not getting more love for coach of the year right I mean I’m looking at the odds Dan Quinn Kevin oconnell Andy Reid stop me when you hear sha MC’s name uh Jim Harbaugh Dan Dan Quinn Kevin oconnell Andy Reid Jim Harbaugh Dan Campbell Mike Tomlin sha pyton Jonathan Ganon Matt leur sha MC Bay wow what are we doing yeah you got you got a guy in sha mcdermid who dealt with a banged up roster you know through the early part of this season the the epitome of consistency you know they have the widest um Point margin in all of the AFC yeah to me it’s wild to me is it because is it because in the media he’s so dry he doesn’t get the quotes that a Dan Campbell gets and is a Bills team that’s been so consistent over the years that it’s not like oh well look at this turnaround that they’re having now it’s just same old consistent bills they’re about to lock up the division for the what fifth year in a row I will tell you I I don’t think that’s it I think sea obviously if he was more of a personality he might help himself I don’t think that’s it what I think it is and I actually fall into this category a bit sometimes which is I do think that a lot of times you’re coach of the your manage of the Year whatever it is should go to the person who does the most with the least right and that hurts people like Shawn mcder who have maybe the MVP like Josh Allen that’s probably why because look at the list right Dan Quinn’s the favorite rookie quarterback no one expected anything Kevin oconnell after they L what is going on at quarterback there people thought they could be even tanking or getting the number one pick Minnesota Vikings look at them and then you have Andy Reid though which doesn’t speak to that which obviously is crazy but they they were undefeated for so long I think what happens with coach of the year is it generally goes to someone who doesn’t you don’t have as much expectations and you outperform them but in that regard I think that’s why sha MC should definitely be in the conversation let’s go back to what we just said how many times did you and I go on a show in the summer in August will people whether it’s New York or Chicago or national radio or TV and people say boy is this a step back year for the bills not expecting them I mean the bills were not the favorite to win the division here they are with a chance to win it in week 13 and to me that’s why Shawn mcder absolutely belongs in this conversation you’re right the consistency of him and his program that he’s run for years and years but it’s a coach of the year award and this year this team what they’re doing with no Stefan digs no Gabe Davis No Mitch Morris no Micah Hyde no Jordan puyer all that leadership in sha mcder to be nine and two with this team I think he absolutely should be in that conversation I think so too and this is also a guy now we follow the bills mainly and so we hear more than most but this is a guy that people said coming into the season was on the hot seat and I know I know that’s a lot of you know people just talking that’s not that’s not the pagas re releasing a statement that’s not Brandon Bean releasing a St statement saying that but you know there’s people that would say well he just can’t get over the hump well neither can anyone else in the AFC right now the Chiefs have made what five AFC or they since 2018 they made the AFC Championship game every single season so there’s a lot of other teams that can’t get over the hump as well and so to me yeah that was that was garbage when people were saying that you know he’s on the hot seat I also think Sean just quickly I think he’s done a great job of adapting to the game getting more aggressive in his decisions on Fourth Downs the biller is aggressive as anybody in the NFL right now the bills and the Lions kind of go back and forth for who’s the most aggressive on fourth down he’s got two 30s something year old quarterbacks or coordinators right now who are playing or who are coordinating styles of defense that work in the the NFL this new age of football and he’s adapted his style he’s given up the play calling duties to Bobby babit this year that’s paid off as well it allows him to maybe focus more on just the day-to-day the coaching decisions ingame focus in on those moments he’s brought a an official a former official and John Perry on staff to help out with you know officiating rules and challenges and all that I I just feel like throughout Sean’s tenure as head coach he’s done a phenomenal job just adapting to each and every team and then adapting himself to this new age of the NFL no doubt about it I think last week the last game they played I should say um a really great example the signature play for Josh Allen is the result of Shawn mcder deciding to go for it in that situation and I don’t know if in years past he necessarily would have right maybe maybe last year I mean he started he’s been aggressive throughout his career but definitely trending even more aggressive as his you know tenure has gone on here and his explanation was great and he was on wgr sports radio 550 with shop and the bulldog I heard this it was great and and schop asked him to break down like that decision- making fourth down what goes into it going into the game the game plan and Shawn was really good you’re right and you don’t get a lot from Shawn sometimes but it was he he gave you more than normal I really liked it and he went back and described how the process starts early in the week and what their overall thinking is if we get to those types of situations and what he basically said paraphrasing was we know that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes win games like that a lot you can’t give them a one-core disadvantage with getting the ball with two minutes to play they’re GNA come down and score so we wanted to make sure that we didn’t give them opportunity that’s basically what he was saying um in in a manner of speaking and and that’s why they went for it and it worked out and I think the more that happens it even emboldens him more emboldens him more to be more aggressive and to go for it and reinforces that he made those right decisions sha MC is not perfect of course not he had a challenge I disagreed with you know against the the Chiefs the DeAndre Hopkins catch on the sidelines he hasn’t been great in that regard feedack okay go ahead what happened did did he think that maybe we bobbled it yes but okay so I had a conversation with John Perry and I’m gonna go out of limb here and think that John would not mind me saying this okay so I ran into John Perry at the hotel the next day and we had a conversation about that challenge there was two things at play if any part of the play gets overturned then you get your timeout back and it’s a successful challenge so there was two things one it was a questionable catch and look it’s hard to determine what’s a catch in the NFL the ball moved to hair are they going to overturn it or not maybe that would have put them I believe at a third and long and so they were willing to take that chance also the spot was bad he went actually went past the first down so it should have either been a first down or an incomplete pass and so they were challenging yes the catch but if they would have said that ball was actually a half yard forward yes the Chiefs get the first down but the Bills take a shot and maybe they back him up to a third and long but it also should have been a first down so John was saying there was actually two things in question on the play did they want them to have the first down you’re saying they didn’t mind it to keep their time out okay but they also could have forced a third and long in that situation and so that was their explanation on that and I believe John would be fine with me telling that story because it it sheds a better light on to what they were thinking in that moment because in the moment I thought it was pretty dumb to challenge and then when I heard Jon’s explanation when we had our conversation I thought it was excellent okay so it was right in front of me I I I saw him I thought he got two feet in and caught the ball and after they challenged I thought you know what I bet you they’re challenging because as he took it down it did move slightly and I think okay I think maybe they’re challenging control of the ball right there right the whole point is a lot of a lot of stuff goes into this right a lot of things you’re thinking about as you just pointed out when I appreciate you doing that and you know that those are moments that you could definitely anybody looking the outside can go oh it’s a bad challenge he shouldn’t have done that and criticize Sean he’s not perfect there’s no doubt about that but I think that because of these little moments where he’s had growth over the years that’s what’s helping to add up to where the bills are right now and 9 and two in the standings because they are we always know they’re very detail oriented you played for the guy I mean that that’s just they’re always going to be buttoned up with you know the details and the the slim margins those little things then when you get in those critical decisionmaking moments that’s where he’s been criticized over the years and I think he’s evolved as you said especially this year in seeing how some of these have played out yep absolutely all right couple quick ones uh for you before we go what’s your favorite Thanksgiving side stuffing no doubt I am a big stuffing
