[Music] [Music] hey it’s between the pipes here on X twitch YouTube dmax Twitter for some reason Raj’s Twitter even though he’s not here I am Mark Springer it is between the pipes um I am expected to be joined by Dan Tanner tonight he is the host of in the paint the Nuggets post game show uh but I’m excited to have him here here talking some ABS Dan loves the ABS in fact I see him and bear with me tonight if I screw anything up because usually it’s Raj that controls this end of things um but I’m gonna add Dan Tanner here nailed it hey bro welcome to between the pipes good to be here man uh first AVS postgame show of the season for me I’m usually on the Nuggets so um got to watch the game tonight and you know too bad it wasn’t a more exciting game that we could break down but um look man um like it’s just one of these games where like literally everything just went Utah’s way I I mean is that would you say that’s fair to say spring like I don’t like to make a lot of excuses for teams that we’re covering but like that’s just kind of what it felt like tonight like I heard Connor say this on the radio um he’s like Utah feels like the Kansas City Chiefs of the NHL tonight like they’re just getting every single break possible uh I mean the first two goals like deflection off leenan I think the second one was deflected in off what danan so you know just just a tough loss and I just don’t like Utah like just pick a name you know what I’m saying get a better Jersey just it’s just annoying no see I want them to stay Hockey Club like I wanted the Washington commanders to remain the Washington football team what are they going to be the yetis is is that that’s kind of what I’m it feels like the leader in the clubhouse is the yetis that feels like the most logical yeah even though the ABS have the ABS have Yeti connections and a lot of people are screaming copyright infringement I don’t know if the ABS have a patent on the yeti um but yeah I if I were to gray tonight’s game I would have given just the slight Edge to the ABS I thought they were the slightly better team but this game is weird this sport is weird it can be a game of bounces and uh yeah the two goals you mentioned like I don’t care if it’s the lowest point of Alexander GE or no I mean scratch that the highest point of Alexander gorv whatever spectrum of gorv if he was in that those are going past if that was freaking let me go like this if that was Patrick W those are going in on him those are just right terrible freaking bounces um what does nothing wrong there and the ABS have their chances on their end linan has a couple break away from Taves late one timer um on a power play um valer nushin had a sick move um very similar to the goal that he scored in Pittsburgh where he comes down the right side and with a head of steam um is able to control the puck and I mean a great little move to the forehand to try to go far side sh Far Side shout out to Carell Vela who I need to look up his numbers I’ve been meaning to do this like uh Peter moric we saw him um with the Blackhawks uh earlier this year beat the ABS he’s one of those golender who has like surprisingly decent numbers against the ABS I wouldn’t be surprised if Aela does either I know there’s one start when they were the coyotes that I think it was at ball Arena he got a lower scoring win um I’m going to confirm that but he was good tonight he was good um he he can do that the have had their chance hit some posts got looks the puck bounced the the I wanted to say the Ys way the hockey club’s way the puck did not bounce the ABS way tonight it simply did not I mean literally not at all spring like I said it just it was one of those nights Vela was great uh but to your point about Wedgewood I mean 100% I actually thought he was pretty good tonight overall and the the the play the ABS have been getting in goal since the trade for Wedgewood has an upgrade which is positive we’ll see what McKenzie Blackwood brings to the team um somebody was telling me he he might have been a little bit sick tonight but I did see him sitting on the bench and it looked like he was the backup so I’m not sure what was going on there I would expect he probably starts in their next game so I’m excited to see what McKenzie Blackwood can do because spring I remember just a few years ago watching a devil’s game when when Mackenzie Blackwood was the starting goenda um I mean he had some really good moments in New Jersey like this is a guy that when he’s on he can be an elite level type of goal tender now the problem for him and it seems like the problem for a lot of the ABS goalies over the last couple years has been consistency and that’s really what this team is lacking the most right now in net he just a guy that can be consistent because look like gorv the thing about him is he’s an athletic freak like he is and he’s got he’s a very talented goendale there was something going on there with him so I I do think it was the right move but like just the the consistency I’ll take a little bit of dip in these goal tenders potentially as far as like athleticism pure athleticism and skill level goes for just more consistent from Wedgewood so far it hasn’t been anything spectacular you know we’re not seeing spectacular saves from Wedgewood so far but he’s just been a really solid goenda who he kind of reminds me of just as far as like being solid and consistent is Darcy keer and the Avalanche this core has shown that they can win a cup as long as their goenda right now that’s all they they don’t need these guys to come in here and be Superstars okay they just need them to be consistent solid goenda in my head let’s see if I can remember them all as we want run through them and then I lose my train of thought as we go um I I’m a little surprised actually I want to start here with the last thing you just said again million thoughts um I’ll go more Pavo franos on Wedgewood um I think he can be that type of backup um consistent right yeah consistent pav was very consistent absolutely Wedgewood is the best backup 1B however you want to phrase it that the ABS have had since franos um keer we’ve talked about it on this show Dan uh how you keer is not amazing but he’s above average that’s what you need that’s all you need if you’re the ABS you don’t need a world beater you just need not awful that was uh gorv and a little on and in I’ll talk about him in a second and gorv I think gorv got the start for San Jose tonight I know hinin did hinin had a very good start tonight I’ll get to those numbers here in a second um but Blackwood you know in terms of being a keer guau before guow and keer are kind of similar um you know Blackwood can be that the bet the first season gorgia you could say first season Gori have actually falls in this category I don’t know what happened to him um as Berto said on the blitz tonight watch now that there’s no Stakes for gorv with San Jose now that he has like no pressure no you’re on a bad team um watch him actually play pretty well now that uh he has zero pressure on him down there all right I have gor gv’s numbers real quick spring he did start tonight and the Sharks got the road win in St Louis they did they they beat the blues 4-3 gorev faced 20 shots allowed three goals with an 850 save percentage so yeah okay 17 saves 20 shots against and 850 save percentage so the numbers aren’t great and you know it’s funny Wedgewood similar numbers tonight uh 19 saves 22 shots against um and two of those were just that those were not his fault those first two the lein and tippen the Don tippen I mean you can’t blame Wedgewood for those those were just unlucky bounces um I thought the third goal honestly like that was just a really skillful play from Utah on the third goal like I didn’t really see a problem with that one either and then the fourth goal was an empty Netter so I thought Wedgewood played pretty well tonight man like let me put it this way he played well enough for the Avalanche to be able to win this game they just couldn’t get anything going and Velo was outstanding tonight I mean there’s no doubt about that he made some brilliant saves um but for me Spring even a game like tonight gives me encouragement for this team moving forward for the remainder of the Season just seeing that Wedgwood made the saves he needed to make like the goals that went in were not his fault they were just unlucky bounces deflections in whatever to from his own team but he made the saves he needed to make and that’s something that this team has been missing the entire season and really kind of going back to last year for the most part other than after game one against the Jets in the playoffs um gorv was pretty good in that series he was okay against the stars but towards the end of the season gorv just he looked like he did pretty much this whole season to start with the Avalanche um but it’s been it’s been good like that’s all I want to see right now just make the saves you need to save and and I will say this spring I’ve seen some interviews with Wedgewood and M Mackenzie Blackwood who spoke to the media today I know you guys were talking about it with Nate Andy those dudes are personable man like what McKenzie black would even said in his presser like I’m an easy Ando guy I’m easy to talk to like you can come up to me in the locker room I’ll talk about whatever that’s something that was not in Alexander gorev’s personality traits whatsoever now I don’t know how much that can really like how much that stuff matters on the ice but it does matter when it comes to chemistry in the locker room and chemistry with your teammates and clearly you know I’m seeing that clip resurface of mik Ranon and gorv getting into it in Edmonton I I think that was last year you can correct me if I’m wrong I don’t remember I reference I referen that moment all the time I can never remember exactly when but I always remember Mo looking at gorv and just being like what the [ __ ] oh oh and he was was yelling at him I mean they were going back well it was interesting because when I saw the clip tonight you know gorev’s got his mask on so it’s a little difficult to tell but Miko’s John Adam and gorgiev it almost reminded me of like when Shawn Payton yelled at Russell Wilson on the sideline like moo was Shawn pton and gorv was Russell Wilson he was just kind of taking it it’s like dude no like hey hey what what what moo says about gorv is none of your business all right no your businesses um what’s the question yeah but but it’s like and that was just kind of the first sign I think for us and a lot of ABS fans that were like whoa like something’s not right here so my point is it sounds like Wedgewood and McKenzie Blackwood are both very personable great locker room type of guys uh the intermission or I think it was postgame actually with kefir Nate McKinnon was talking to kefir and asked him about Wedgewood in the locker room he’s like oh man like day one this guy was awesome super easy to get along with really just fit in with the guys right away and you could kind of tell in Nate’s voice there spring that like this was this was a change that was desperately needed in the locker room so it’s good to see yeah I’m a little I I mean part of me is surprise McKenzie Blackwood didn’t start tonight but we know he was ill under the weather but you know he talks to the media today um it wasn’t puking on the microphone he was on the bench so yeah he was the you know he was the backup goalie tonight um so okay do you think and now I’m gonna play into something that they were talking about John Mitchell was talking about on the uh altitude broadcast and on N9 news tonight um John Mitchell and look he’s right and he would know he played the game and he said and he says you know I’m not making ex I’m not trying to make excuses but like I don’t know it’s not it’s just a fact it’s just a reality um you’re on a five game Road Trip um you come you know you’re you’re you’re away for a week week and a half uh at sea level you come back now to altitude you get in uh you know late uh Thursday night very early Friday morning um and and or excuse me tues uh Wednesday I don’t even know what freaking day it is Dan Thursday Thursday so Wednesday early Wednesday morning here we are it’s Thursday you know uh media’s there you know it’s a whirl Blackwood wedgewood’s first home start um I thought maybe that you know usually you see on the fifth game of a five-game road trip that you know teams can gas the ABS didn’t do that they go blow out the penguin six to2 um maybe this was the gas game you know after the end of a lot of traveling coming home again you know I’m not saying I’m not trying to make excuses John Mitchell isn’t trying to make excuses but that is a real thing that can happen and I wonder maybe if they decided let’s hold Blackwood off until Nashville on Saturday nights after we’re a little back in our cycle we’re we’re you know back in our sleep routine and we’re more ready to go for Saturday night I don’t know maybe I’m grasping it TR let him get acclimated a little bit to the altitude I mean knows what the thing is but but spring you’re right and you know I will say though like energy-wise tonight and I thought specifically in the first period the ABS were flying around I mean I didn’t really see it didn’t look like they were skating with tired legs out there tonight or anything like that I just uh velica was great um it was just one of those weird games where like just literally none of the bounces were going the ab’s way but I will say and I’ve noticed this with the nuggets and the Jazz over the years like the one team that the nuggets have never had the quote unquote altitude advantage over is is Utah because they’re you know they’re pretty high elevation I know Denver’s higher in elevation but but they’re similar so like of all the teams that they’re not going to have that altitude advantage over it is going to be Utah so maybe that factored into it as well like that’s one of the teams that can come in here and and not be as affected by the thinner air um but honestly spring like I don’t know to I mean you tell me like did it look to you like in that especially in the first period I thought as the game went along it kind of got bogged down a little bit more but I thought the ABS were flying around in that first period it looked like they had their skating legs they were for the first 10 or so minutes then they went a little stale um but I thought second third period they were pushing all right um this wasn’t their best effort tonight I’m not saying that this was not their best effort but I thought they played well um but Utah they played that good defensive brand of hockey that we’ve seen be effective against the ABS with several several teams like uh the capitals um a few you know I know the capitals are out kicking their coverage a little bit um the these midlevel teams are playing a more defensive brand against the ABS and on certain nights the ABS haven’t had the the full effort required they didn’t have it tonight but it but it wasn’t bad um it was not bad from Colorado tonight I mean look you look at their numbers and McKinnon four shots on goal ranton and three shots on goal uh nin two shots on goal linan three shots on goal kiv Ron two shots on goal those are the only ABS players who had multiple shots on goal forwards at least uh midat didn’t have one middle stat didn’t have one this is a slower kale Knight you know he hasn’t there’s you know there’s the play one of the it was the lein in play where Mar gets fed um and Dam near puts that thing through Vela lein and tries to get to it that was like the only moment where kale was truly dangerous tonight it was a slower night for kale overall a slower night for Nate and moo I thought Nate had his moments where he looked explosive didn’t notice moo a hell of a whole lot out there tonight U speaking of that hey let’s go there right now I saw spit and chicklets talking about it if spit and chicklets is talking about it’s a thing D okay what’s the thing if Paul bizette and Ryan Whitney are talking about it um they just brought up do you do you trade Meo by the deadline if he’s not extended by the trade deadline because would you risk letting him walk for nothing man that’s you know I’d really have to think about that I mean there’s so many factors involved you know like okay let’s let’s play this out what are the biggest we’re not going to put goalie in there because they have just made two moves okay they’re not making another goalie move right okay okay so okay take out the goalies what are the biggest deficiencies on the Avalanche right now I would say um third line pairing defense hasn’t been great but they’ve been you’re not trading ni for a third line D pair yeah they’re really pretty set everywhere well that’s the thing now now where they’re lacking is the bottom six but again you’re not trading moik and as so like for you know I’m not saying trade Mo ranted but what I am saying is if the trade deadline comes by or is like you know the next day yeah and you don’t have a deal in place with MCO Ranson in and then he finishes the season and man you better win a cup because what happens if you know we we’ve been using the Anaheim Ducks like it’ll be some stupid team like that or whatever that’s like M Ranson and here is a 7-year deal with the for 13 to 14 million per that you want which is more than McKinnon per year um and the ABS say we can’t meet that and moo wants his money and he leaves no no I get it I get it but but but so my point is like would you be willing to trade M Ranon in to get um extremely potent scoring depth in your lines two through four let’s just put it that way like would you be willing to trade him and take away that’s a lot of goals I mean it’s 50 goals a season would you be willing to to risk getting rid of that in order to have a a much much deeper team like does that make the ABS better and again all this depends on like who who would be coming back but I would have to say the answer is probably no now the other question spring is if they don’t trade if they don’t extend him by the deadline and they don’t trade him do you trust CAC and Joe to get a deal done this off season I I mean really that’s that’s what it comes down to now CAC and Joe have shown over the years that they are pretty good at getting deals done when there are deadlines in place right um but that’s a big risk like especi to to risk getting nothing for moo and losing him to like you said like the ducks or whoever whoever the Sabers I don’t know um man that’s a big risk and you just the hope is that they can come to an agreement before the trade deadline now let me ask you this spring what what is if you’re the GM of the ABS what’s the number per year what’s the Red Line in the Sand that you’re not willing to go over for moo Ronin I mean I don’t I don’t think you can go north of $13 million and that would be more than Nate you know in a perfect world I I think Nate is 126 so I guess you’re saying 125 for Mo and you know Raj and I have talked about it and Raj brought up how um the ABS can offer they can give him one more more year than any other team can right so if you’re extending it over the long term he really wouldn’t miss out on much if any if the ABS can get at least to 125 but I don’t know all it takes is Moo’s moo and his agent to you know there for there to be one drunk team that says here’s a number that even the math is still a little more than what that extra year would get you and then you can go take some BS deal when you’re 36 and it’s whatever there’s it’s an interesting situation it’s I I I don’t know how this will play out but my guess would be that they’ll resign him but it’s interesting because he hasn’t and you know if the trade deadline passes that is a marker that’s a that’s one of those checkpoints of being like okay something’s going on in the negotiations that’s that’s causing it to stall right if if they don’t get it done by the trade deadline I agreed um you know I’ve seen reports out there that I I don’t know what the validity to these I have no idea but I have seen reports that Miko’s Camp could be asking for north of 14 million per I get the the that would be like dude you know what that would be like and I love Mo Ranon it okay did you see Brock pie tonight that would be like making Brock py the highest you or making him akin to one of the highest paid quarterbacks like they’re different levels Miko’s better comparatively to pery but like is the NFL are the ners really going to do that like are you really if you’re whoever the Ducks are you really gonna pay moo Ranon in a good player don’t get great player yeah but north of $14 million but would it shock me no because they’re desperate teams out there yeah you think the Red Wings would pay moo 14 million the iser I bet they would iser’s trying to bail out the iser plan maybe that’s his Panic move it’s like Pang Juan stto $765 million like I love Juan sto but holy crap I’m not sure I’d give him that well I I get it uh that’s crazy but but the difference is baseball doesn’t have a salary cap in the NHL has a hard salary cap so that’s why this is so important um man would you pay moo 14 million you can’t if you were the ABS you can’t right man that’s tough because there’s like you said risking losing him for nothing would be just the worst case scenario I mean there’s no doubt about that well look if would you rather pay him 13 and and not lose him and maybe overpay a little bit or or Lo risk losing him and get nothing is really the question were to risk it and he walks you know they could go sign two players the next day but you’re it would be what’s available in the free agent market and I you know there there’s some good options I’d imagine um but you know if you trade him at the deadline you could also get you know picks prospects and addition to players um that you could then use to you know for you know you’re either using those draft picks or just more assets for trades down the road either way it works out you just would miss out on a little bit of capital if he leaves you high and dry just a little bit well and and the other thing we’re not talking about that that kind of handcuffs the situation too and I hate to bring this up I know say but it’s it’s kind of the elephant in the room is Gabriel landeskog because he is counting against their cap this year because he’s no longer on ltir right so this is you know as as the days and the months go by my confidence that Gabe is coming back are waning now that’s not to say that he’s not coming back I have no idea okay honestly I don’t even think Gabriel landeskog really knows if he’s going to be able to come I have no idea I I I really just don’t think he he really knows I know he’s working his ass off to get back but man like they need to figure out they need to know before the trade deadline don’t they if he’s going to be able to come back this year like they need to be able to figure that when is the trade deadline by the way I mean I can look it up early March it’s early March yeah I mean ton I mean the freaking four nations thing will be done by the time the trade deadline gets here that’s On’s right when is this thing but they’ve got to they’ve got to know by then like they do you know and that’s kind of the elephant room and it sucks that this is kind of what it’s come down to but that’s because think about it spring if if they can’t come to an agreement with Mo and Gabe’s just not able to come back that would be a really tough pill to swallow for a lot of ABS fans and for the front office quite honestly because they don’t know if he can come back or not and I honestly I applaud the ABS Organization for staying patient with Gabe and and really trying to play this thing out and see if he can come back I think he’s earned that right but at some point man like like last year it wasn’t a problem because he wasn’t counting against the cap well this year he is so that that does change things so they they need to know one way or another I would say even a little bit before the trade deadline if if he’s going to be able to play or not this year right oh oh yeah no absolutely um you know there’s a chance that he could we that the ABS could Vegas golden night this thing and he’s on ltir until the playoffs start but even in terms of moo you know if Gabe’s back then that’s seven ex you know and they’re they’re accounting for the $7 million right now but then it’s really there then it’s really there that could make things even tighter for moo I don’t know um okay uh so the ABS lose four to one to the hockey club tonight you don’t even say Utah you just say hockey club change the name get a real name this I don’t know why this bugs me so much like get a real Jersey get a real sweater get a real name like what are we doing they couldn’t figure this out over the offseason spring come on yeah I think that’s the plan I think that they wanted they didn’t want to rush the decision if I remember correctly they want to get it right that’s what the commanders did you know they want and they came up with commanders yeah and they still screwed it up the commanders that’s the dumbest name I’ve ever heard feel about Yeti uh it’s a is it because the ABS had the yeti logo is that why or is it just in general because I kind of like it I don’t know it’s it’s a little like uh like it’s like if I were to create a team in the NHL video game it’s just a little fake to me doesn’t feel like a real name it feels like team name it feels like a like a beer league hockey team’s name kind of thing you know yeah or like or like a yeah or like a you know an OHL team’s name the yetis I get you or an AHL team something like that uhuh um in the chat I see you the Utah soakers what about the Utah Lakers because there’s a lake there Jokers what about the Lakers can we have two Lakers uh there’s probably copyright infringements on that or something like that but although Vegas the golden knights got away with it and uh who are they who were the golden knights beefing with when they came up with their name I don’t even remember this yeah the gold it’s a college is it is it Army ah that sounds about right I think it I think Army was beefing with the golden knights about their their uh logo and name so I I don’t know if the Lakers would work the soakers who said the soakers that does what is the soakers some troll in the chat said that yeah okay so the ABS lose tonight but so did uh the three teams in the Central Division that are above them uh the Jets lost in overtime at home to the golden knights the Minnesota Wild got absolutely pounded at home by the Edmonton Oilers uh seven to one oh wow um and the Dallas Stars lost at home 4 to one same score as uh here in Denver so us this on and then get get the start in Dallas I believe this is his second start eustus gets his first win as a PR saves 35 shots on 36 against a 9 972 wow Save percentage in his first start Dan in Montreal he lost but he had a 93-1 on the save percentage 27 saves on 29 again so I mean that’s something like a 950 save percentage for eustus Onin in he’s one and one in his first two starts uh with Nashville how’s that make you feel um it I I’m okay with the performances we’ve seen from Wedgewood so far now I I gotta see McKenzie Blackwood for a couple of weeks you know give him like 10 games and then I’ll I’ll really give you a decision on that but did the apps give up on Eustace a little bit too early it to me it kind of felt like like yv I get like that was obvious he needed to go okay um but with usce and he had a very rough stretch there’s no doubt about that but like earlier in the season and and in spot starts last year like he had some really solid games for the Avalanche in net I don’t know maybe there were stuff going on behind the scenes that that we just don’t know about and that’s why they got rid of him I have no idea but it to me it does seem like wow that that seems like kind of early and this is a guy they drafted and developed and and groomed as the potential starter for the future it did seem a little bit odd that they got rid of him that early but you know it’s just one game and he had a good game tonight for the PRS I get it finally against you know he struggled against the better teams in the NHL and here he goes into Dallas a team that is very good and you know has this is the best performance of his career he he had some good ones the ABS and this this tonight is his the best of his career um yeah I was I was surprised like when I saw the news you know come down that you know SE many days ago now when Onan was traded for Wedgewood I was like oh really you know it was coming off of that 8 to2 loss in Tampa like I I mean the the Avalanche they reacted like some of our uh listeners Dan you know fire Bednar they were like fire on it like it’s like damn it was I know it was a bad and he allowed some bad goals in Tampa they were not good yeah um but yeah 24 years old and has had good starts and just a very small sample size still it felt like he was on like the trajectory you know third round pick which is not bad for a kid who’s 18 at the time playing in Finland and was playing you know then he starts playing for you know in that pro- finish League which for High teen early 20s kid agewise pretty damn impressive to be playing in that league and then goes to the AHL and you know start you know he’s progressing progressing comes comes up to the ABS bad starts to start but then in a little more consistent role better against weaker teams that would continue struggled against the better teams but I I was I was surprised that you that they pulled the rib cord that soon I understand the thought though that the ABS are win now and Scott Wedgewood this season is just more reliable than Anin and it tells you they probably also do love ilad iakov kid in Russia yeah but he’s even I mean he’s 22 that’s young for an NHL goalie even at 23 years old next year um but maybe there’s a hope that maybe Blackwood they can if he’s good there’s some sort of financially viable deal there in a short-term thing until the bov’s ready maybe they just you know and I said the other night maybe they were maybe they like MacKenzie Blackwood so much it feels like they’ve been targeting him yeah um that they were so quick to go get him that they were willing to part with Nikolai kovalenko um Blackwood has you know been a trade candidate in recent years and the ABS they like those guys who profiled well um earlier in their career it’s possible that they just targeted that they’ve been looking at Wedgewood and Blackwood for a little bit with Nabokov in the pipeline and even if juice is on a decent path it just didn’t fit into their timeline with Nabokov I get it Nabokov in the equation as well yeah yeah well so you better hope that that uh McKenzie Blackwood is going to be their penelon starter for the next at least two seasons like after this right because I don’t see Nabokov coming to Colorado anytime in the next year and a half or let’s say season and a half after this one’s over and being like the guy right like they’re going to have to work him in um I mean he was the first goalie taken in that draft so the potential is obviously there and the hope is there and obviously the team really liked him he was a high second round pick but you better hope that McKenzie Blackwood Andor Scott Wedgewood are like legit for the next two seasons because he’s not going to be there until then so we’ll see man I I’m I’m optimistic about Mackenzie Blackwood by the way I saw him at morning skate video from him at morning skate that dude is way bigger than I than I realized like his hips were literally almost at the crossbar spring like this guy is massive and it’s kind of cool to see like the ABS have for the most part they’ve had not tiny goalies by any stretch of the imagination but they haven’t had like these big strapping guys and goal like a John Gibson with the ducks or a vasileski or guys like that so it will be I am interested to see sort of how how that looks and how that feels with with a really big strapping guy between the pipes for the ABS so I’m excited to see him man um dude he’s got all the tools I mean the size the he’s like he’s a prototype yeah he was on a crap team in San Jose so like throw the numbers this year out with the sharks like that doesn’t well those are good numbers but but I know what you’re saying I get what you’re saying but yeah like now it’s go time for him so we’ll really see kind of what he’s made of but I’m excited man like like I said he’s he’s a big dude the AV really had that I mean gorv wasn’t like tiny by any means but he he’s not as big as McKenzie Blackwood so it’ll be cool to see and missing so many teeth Dan that is a great question H like I didn’t realize this about him yeah they always have the mask on I’m not watching sharks post game coverage with they have masks on that’s that’s the point spring how are you missing teeth with a goalie how do you get your teeth knocked out with a goalie mask on that’s what I that’s the question I need from McKenzie Blackwood how did you get your teeth knocked out were you wearing the goalie mask when it happened and maybe got in a fight I mean who knows um it was cool man Marie in the chat says roft on the broadcast tonight says it’s because one time his mask broke and like I guess on a shot to his face and it broke his front four teeth my God is that a freaking uh wait kale marar had hardest did kale have hardest shot at the All-Star game uh yeah like what was that one or two years ago I believe so yeah last year I think yeah okay yeah okay was it like 108 like that but dude are you kidding me like I don’t care it’s 120 mph that’s going to you’re wearing a mask and you get four how is that even possible like it broke the mask and then went through like what let me see I’m uh that is wild that break his jaw is this a real story I’m like Googling McKenzie Blackwood I I just first I did broken face probably not the best vernacular for Google to know what I want but like that’s got to break your face that doesn’t make oh here we go here we go it was four years ago Reddit has a thread on it okay thank you Reddit the the headline is Blackwood takes a puck to the face mask loses a few teeth and stays in to finish the period hell yeah that’s a hockey guy right there yeah I’m seeing this May 6 2020 M highlight they’re the the devils are playing the Islanders in New Jersey let’s see oh onetime shot oh my God yeah right in the face I think is that the play it’s got to be wow that’s wild is that Roman pulock so whoever made that mask the manufacturer they need to get a refund like what I I didn’t even know that was possible can you sue you should sue that company how was that I honestly I didn’t even I thought those masks were like welded together with steel basically like I didn’t even think that was possible that is wild that must have been a hell of a hard shot holy cow yeah no it was a one-timer from the left Point uh gets through and oh God yeah he’s got blood all you can see his teeth they’re kind of I think they’re dangling from his yeah it’s Roman pulock wow okay right the kiss go okay um and we will not get on andin versus Blackwood on Saturday but I m I mean I guess maybe Nashville stays with because UC stos is coming off of he allowed four goals um is that a home loss to the Flames they just lost to the Flames okay Saros allows four goals not a great performance feels like you see Saros has been just okay this year but we need to look at his numbers um Onin and starts tonight so I guess my my my initial gutan was they’ll just go back to Soros on Saturday right maybe that’s in Denver too that game in Denver it is in Denver um shoot I want to see on and in just because I like drama um but I I guess man sorrow seems more beatable right now believe it or not I don’t know it’ll be interesting to see which finished goenda dude the nationville Predators outside of tonight’s game have been a disaster this year they’ve been awful and and they make the big offseason acquisition with Steven Stam Co they what did they start like 0 and8 or something like that to start the year they had a horrible start to the season but as the Oilers have shown that doesn’t injure season I know the Oilers are obviously a lot more talented than the breeds are but spring one more thing I wanted to bring up with you and rker and mojer were talking about this on the broadcast tonight the ABS went like 31- n at home last year at ball Arena they’re seven and eight and it’s December 12th what is going on at home like that is that’s wild to me and and what’s weird also is like the nuggets are struggling at home this year too um that’s just that blows my mind like what is going on at home now I know the goal tending has been just ass so far this year for the ABS and I understand that maybe that’s a reason but like we just saw him come off a five-game road trip and they look great and then they come home tonight and they and like you said earlier it is that kind of like first game back home after a long road trip is one of those weird instances throughout Seasons that all teams deal with maybe that’s just kind of what it was but SE like eight losses at home already this year it’s December 12th we’re like just we’re not even a third of the way through the season that’s what is going on at home for the Avalanche why are they losing so many games at home I don’t get it yeah no I’m glad you brought that up because and this is this is one reason I was like no way the ABS lose this game right like they’re not going to fall to seven and8 at home like they’re an over 500 team at home right uh nope they fall to seven and eight at home they’re 10 six and0 on the road uh they haven’t lost in overtime this year that’s cool um I that will improve that has to improve sure um just not even like it has to improve or else no it just they’re too good it has to it will improve you you’re you will by and large be better on your home ICE every team will be so I suppose it’s encouraging you know on the flip side that they are 10 and six on the road it’s tougher to win on the road it’s uh more grinding to win on the road um it’s it’s more of a testament to the uh just the the medal of your team when you go into these hostile environments and you know you have a 10 a 10 and six Road clip considering the goal attending considering the injuries all said and done 10 and six is pretty good so I’ll take that as the positive and assume that they will be relatively significantly over 500 at home in the coming weeks and months okay well yeah it’s odd it’s odd it is it is and then last thing we kind of brought this up earlier but like this this is kind of this is one of my bigger concerns now for the ABS what is going on with Casey middl stat man like look listen to this spring okay he had no shots on goal tonight in their 6-2 win against Pittsburgh zero shots on goal in their 4 nothing win at New Jersey zero shots on goal at Detroit one shot on goal at Carolina zero at Buffalo his former team one verse Edmonton on November 30th no shots on goal at Dallas on the November 29th no shots on goal he has two shots on goal spring over his last eight games two shots on goal over his last eight games how in the hell is that that’s your second line Center man like he’s got to be better that’s that’s ridiculous two shots on goal over an eight game stretch from your second line Center you can’t have that I was uh I was you know when the ads were losing some games recently um before the road trip you know I talked about Casey middle stat before the road trip uh let’s see the first one two three four five six games before they went out on the road trip that they went four and one on Casey midad had no points Artur and Artu linan was struggling a little bit too those were a couple players that I singled out as you got to be better um leenan has picked it up middle stat now the other night in New Jersey he had the two assists that was his best game going back to the poor six game stretch as well that was his best game two assists in New Jersey um but then right back down here tonight um yeah I’ve been talking about how when drwan is back um okay Colton goes back down to 3C or I mean and Ross Colton he hits a post tonight I thought when did he score his goal his second game back that was his best game the other two games does look like a guy who’s finding his footing coming back from injury just a little bit he’s been good though um Allan nushin coming back linan coming back um is Middle stat the one who goes down to 3C and Colton stays up as 2C right now that’s if like if this was tryy outs that’s what it should be I mean if you’re putting two shots on goal over your last eight games like I mean what what are we doing here seriously and I went back to the the first let’s see like five games of the season for Casey midd stat spring game one against Vegas three shots on goal game two two shots on goal game three three shots game four three shots game five against Anaheim six shots and then you start to the season was fantastic in the first two three weeks of the Season absolutely at I agree with you but like I don’t know what’s happened dude I mean come on man like two shots on goal over your last eight games you’re the second line Center that’s unacceptable dude Nathan McKennon averages like two shots a period you know what I’m saying like come on man like throw some stuff at the net like I get he’s he’s more of a of a facilitator I understand that okay but come on man you’re you’re the second line Center you’ve got to fire some pucks at the net like you’re on the power play as well like that that’s just that stat I saw tonight that blew my mind oh he’s playing he’s playing with nushin who’s playing out of his mind right now he’s playing with Ross Colton who’s back and you know has like I said looked good um there should be more production there there should be from Casey middlest stad um to the point where yeah I mean maybe maybe your second line is Colton drwan nushin when drwan is back and middl Stat goes and plays with OK Conor and kiv Ron um you know shout out like once again uh ok Conor kiv Ron Kelly they they worked hard tonight um I thought all line I thought the second line worked hard I thought the second line did work hard tonight um first line was okay uh but yeah Casey midad gotta get it going gotta get it going hey Dan Tanner yeah thanks so much man for help no way I could have gone 50 minutes without you I appreciate it man I’m happy always happy to talk ABS with you guys and everyone listening and um it’s just weird man like it’s it’s funny spring I was thinking about this tonight watching the ABS like how similar the ABS and Nuggets seasons have started with two teams that are AB but I just want to tell every by the way these teams are still in Championship Windows okay they are they have some of the best players in the world there’s there’s that is absolutely the truth like the window is still open so I don’t mean to be super pessimistic about the team but it is wild how like similar the these early season has played out for the ABS and nuggets and how it’s How underwhelming It has been um man they’ve got all the talent in the world both of these teams so like you’ve got to think they’re going to we’re going to see them turn both turn it around now I don’t know to what degree but like there’s no way the ABS are going to continue playing like this for the remainder of the year and hockey is one of those weird sports Spring especially in hockey we saw it when the Blues won the Stanley Cup you know like what were they the worst team in the NHL in the middle of January and then they just catch fire and and they win the cup so hockey is one of those weird Sports where like things can just change on a dime like that um so hopefully that happens with the ABS this year um and hopefully the the new goalies that they brought in can add some juice to thisam team and some really just positivity and and get the get the locker room pumped up again and whatever they need to do but it’s just it has been interesting to see both of these teams have the underwhelming starts that they’ve had and in a year the Broncos are are probably going to make the playoffs this just it feels like we’re in the Twilight Zone well it’s it’s it’s I mean the Broncos actually have all of a sudden I I I could see big things for them in the next few years um and I I agree with everything you said on the nuggets and the Abes um Jamal Murray you know he’s got to be that like that’s what concerns me that dude he’s got to be that dude that’s what concerns me about the Nuggets right now for the ABS and Casey middle stats got to be that dude for the for the second line he does I’m not saying he needs to be like a Jamal like you know second best player on the team but he needs you need everyone clicking you can’t have a someone playing below the level or even more so significantly below the level uh that you need them to be playing at you know key guys for the Nuggets it’s Murray right now it’s middle stat I don’t think it’s to the degree of Murray though I don’t um I I honest I think the ABS are the best team in the league I do um I obviously this front office this organization believes that this team is very good or they wouldn’t have been as aggressive they know what they have they know they have McKinnon ranton and Mar nushin you can go down a list they know what they have yeah so hey I got to jump on in the paint with you I know you and I’ve been uh a douche I’m sorry bro I gotta get on in the paint with you that’s all right KJ’s been on with me a bunch dmac hops on it’s been great but yeah we’d love to have you man all right yeah hopefully I want to do it on the night where the Nuggets win okay that’s what I want to do okay well they play the Clippers tomorrow night so they Pro they should win that game and they just had four days off so sure no excuses they better win that freaking game tomorrow night all right well hey everybody listen watch actually see listen watch we’re we’re we’re visual medium now baby watch Dan Tanner on in the paint tomorrow night on the same channels you’re watching this show right now um after the Nuggets host the Clippers uh Dan Tanner will have your postgame coverage after that one Dan thank you so much uh for joining me here abely spring see you guys to the hockey club 4 to1 it’s between the pipes uh we’ll talk to you Saturday night after the ABS host the Predators good night all
