Kevin Henry again Double Trouble back-to-back episodes with our man at justb baseball.com doing great stuff he uh he left Dallas which by the way best bandwidth I have ever seen Wi-Fi the Dallas airport amazing you landed in Denver yeah crazy but you landed in Denver and you’re ready to chat Dallas with us now Kevin it’s been uh it’s been a doozy I know we talked about you know overall feel at the winter meetings and what happens in the and all of that but now that you’re back home after a couple of days in Dallas and a couple days of just rubbing elbows with everybody in the baseball industry how welcome is this early bedtime G to be for you oh I’m I’m looking forward to it for sure absolutely but you know but you had so much energy around you while you’re there you know you love to be there but yeah whenever you get back to the hotel room you are done at the end of the night for sure but uh but yeah this is some good stuff to carry us over into you know spring training and everything else and I’m excited about some of the things that happened down in Dallas I think I really am and before you go to bed we got to still ask you about a bunch of rumors so the night it’s not it’s not quite done yet so we’ve heard a bunch of different stuff I kind of want to go piece by piece here I think the biggest news is that Kyle Tucker could potentially be on the move and in last last episode I just did with arum we kind of argued against it we didn’t think that it was the best idea that almost the as show should go down with the ship this year that they have a good enough team to maybe add some pieces and go for Glory winning the World Series but it does see seem like Dana Brown and Company might be going a different direction and the biggest team involved in Kyle Tucker as of now is what I’m hearing is the Chicago Cubs potentially parting with isach peretz potentially SE Suzuki and some so what are you hearing down there where it relates to Kyle Tucker and maybe other teams get involved yeah so one of the things that was late today was you know the Yankees are somehow involved with this and if Tucker goes to the Cubs could the Cubs flip Bellinger to the Yankees then you know that’s that’s one of the things that gathered a lot of steam right at the end of the day you know there’s something about that Astros Yankees that just doesn’t feel right for a trade to actually happen there so it feels like a third partner could come in there and maybe it is the Cubs you know and uh you know it’s funny Jack and I were talking the other day about are they G are the Cubs going to be that team that goes for kind of the middle uh but it feels like if they can pull this off for Kyle Tucker then I’ll eat the words that I I said to Jack D the other night about that I I saw Hoyer do some media availability and he mentioned that they were active on the trade front this week instead of the free agent front and you know whether that’s the right or wrong decision from the Cubs remains to be seen and it could be the right decision to be active on the trade front I’m with you Yankees Astros would be a little slimy to me like it feels like there’s some history there it’d be nice to have the Cub buffer in between even if it’s you know kind of that stop Gap and it’s hey the Astro goes to the Cubs and then the Cub goes to the Yankees yada y y um I’m curious like I put out a tweet essentially um saying that the WAN stto signing will be the Oppenheimer chain reaction that we were promised where everybody was going to sign really active on the pitching front not a lot of movement whatsoever on the position player front do you feel like there’s any steam there or not at all this is a January problem it feels like it’s a January problem it to me it really feels like that this is going to be something now the winter meetings are done it’s really going to cool off all the talk about bre man you know all all the things like that it feels like kind of ground to a halt and and it’s funny what you said about the trades versus free agent it felt like that it was much more about the trades at winter meetings this year I mean there were some free agent signings of course but you know the crochet deal uh coming through right at the end of the winter meetings whenever people were starting to break up it really felt like that that kind of put a cap on what was really a trade rumor frenzy uh time and doubts and speaking about the trade frenzy there may be one we’re hearing rumors that’s why I want to get um your opinion on this yeah Mariners in Red Soxs potentially Tristan casus for Luis Castillo was floated that was kind of turned down by I think shut cus down yeah kind of more connected on the Red Sox side saying that if we’re going to give up casus we probably need a Logan Gilbert or potentially you go a little bit younger getting a Bryce Miller or Brian woo do you think that there is going to be Synergy there enough to to actually get the deal done or do you think it’s more just conversations as of now anything that involves Jerry depoto I I never put anything past let’s be perfectly Trader Jerry gets out there but I also don’t think that I I I feel like there’s a lot of smoke around now and I don’t have anything to substantiate that other than it just feels like I think deep down the Mariners know that if if the Houston you know go back to what we were talking about a minute ago Houston kind of Tears things down a little bit and all of a sudden you don’t have some those key pieces you don’t have Tucker you don’t have bregman I I think they feel like they’ve got a shot in the ALS this year I I really think that and so I think it could be really dependent on what they see the Astros do if something like that were to pick up steam but I think for right now I uh I think it’s a lot of smoke I don’t think there’s a lot of reality to my personal opinion Kevin if you were to tally the number of times you heard a specific team’s name you know Red Sox get a tally Mariners get a tally yeah who were the leaders from the winter meetings uh Red Sox Yankees uh I’ll be honest I heard more about the A’s than I thought I was going to at this meeting I was really surprised about that uh you know whenever it came out that you know that was floated out there about how they were in the max freed sweet steak somehow uh absolutely crazy but but yeah and I will throw the Blue Jays in there as well there was a lot of blue jays talk as well so it really felt like the AL East and you know and we were talking earlier today if you start to break down like winners and losers from the winner meetings it’s weird to say the Orioles kind of feel like a loser in all of this because honestly New York and Boston both got better pitching wise and Baltimore is still trying to find that Ace out there sowhere so I I have two questions the first one is the inverse of Jacks and you started to answer it with the Orioles I’m curious if there are teams that you expected to be busier in the winter meetings and you kind of didn’t anything from them and maybe you’re even a little disappointed uh you know honestly yeah uh I I think we heard Talk of the Astros but it was only because of Tucker I mean there wasn’t hardly as much bragman talk as I thought there was going to be there and so so they seemed relatively quiet uh I I will also say and this is going to be a weird one I think I thought the Brewers might do a little bit more I I really thought one way or the other the Brewers might be a little more with things but outside of the Cubs it was a really quiet inl Central the whole time that we were there and building on that real quick Kevin I I think we knew that the Cardinals were going to be quiet because they established their Direction with with Hein Bloom essentially being the succession plan of moock and all that and you know Cincinnati they they’ve made their presence felt earlier in the offseason and I think they’ll do it later but I’m with you Milwaukee they win the division even if it’s like a net negative and you’re talking about Devin Williams I would have assumed you heard that name in the winter meetings but that’s just not the case no it was very quiet or anything around dein Williams I will tell you the the most Buzz that there was out of the NL Central you could say maybe NL and Aeron a honestly that we heard down there you know obviously Joel wolf after he talked about saki started talking about Aeron a laid out the teams and those six that know J baseball tweeted out that could be you know trade partners and how weird would it be to have another Padre uh infielder the just what the Padres Need is Another All-Star Gold Glove infielder but but but yeah I I think outside of that the NL Central is really quiet um two teams that have been trying to take a big swing and one of these teams already has but my main question is about Corbin Burns uh because we’ve heard obviously his name floated Max freed goes to the Yankees everybody’s questioning well then what would Burns get on the open market and it does seem like the Giants seem to be the most heavily connected to him but they haven’t gotten something done yet so I’m curious if the Blue Jays and the Giants it’s creating a little bit of a bidding war if there’s other teams that you’ve heard are in on Corbin Burns I just think this Market is fascinating for him you know I I heard a lot of Buzz don’t count out Baltimore uh for a return there I mean I I think that that is still a real possibility but you know the Buster posie effect I I’m telling you it is a real thing and and I think that how we’ve judg San Francisco in past off Seasons I think you throw it out the window because posie is going to be a guy that he wants to make sure to restore that winning tradition and and I think Burns could very well be that guy to come back and and be a part of that Kevin last one for me we talked about you know Bill Schmid yesterday and and how there can be some optimism there with the Rockies in terms of letting the kids play and in terms of Doland or possibly making the team and all that the the great part of the winter meetings is not only are you around all these Executives and managers and I heard Matt Carpenter was there saying hey I’m I’m healthy I’m ready to play I’m alive yeah exactly that’s that was the Matt Carpenter thing this year the winter meetings I Know Rich Hill did that last year but you know the other endearing quality about the winter meetings is you’re around so many media members from so many markets were there any other teams that you really don’t hear much about that you felt like you know maybe their local media members were expressing some form of optimism or it’s like hey you know what I I’m kind of buzzing as I get to as I get to Dallas and I can talk to the rest of the national media yeah and and I think Frank cona has done that in Cincinnati I think just in putting his posit ity back in there um you know so this morning was the manager’s breakfast uh you know when all 30 managers are there you sit in the room you have breakfast with your press people I sat with the Rockies and and Bud Black was talking about how that Fran cona being back was surprise to him but such a pleasant surprise and and he was a guy that everybody was kind of going to talk to uh whatever before we all sat down so I thought that was a really cool thing but I think Cincinnati and and I’ll tell you this this is going to be a little bit of a weird one but uh the Tampa Bay crew and talking to other people about the perception of playing in that Minor League Stadium and now that we know that they’re going to start the a year a day later than everybody else because they need that extra time there was a lot of perception about what does this feel like in an AL East that they’ve done you know a playoff birth you know they they’ve done well in and right now they are a complete afterthought not only because of Hurricane mil and what’s going on with the trop but also just in terms of their personnel and everybody else seeming to take those steps forward that’s that’s really interesting I didn’t think of it that way I just assumed you know I don’t even know what I assume that’s why it’s so good to hear that from you I I had thought about Tampa in a while to be honestest like ien thought about in a couple weeks I haven’t really heard about them in the rumors you know that thing that happened with the stadium of course is incredibly unfortunate they have to play in Minor League Stadium but I didn’t think about it if I’m a free agent do I really want to go play there is that what I want to do I could just go get the money from someone else so it has to put them in such a tough position and is it weird that the rays are actually looking again I’m going to mention the A’s again but but one of the things that I heard is that the rays are trying to see how the A’s are positioning playing in Sacramento at a minor league Stadium how are they what talking points are they giving to free agents out there because they’re going to need to do the same thing this year uh you know obviously a George sber field Kevin never once in a million years that I think the Rays would be looking at the A’s saying you know what how should we operate so my my last question for you Kevin uh just a gut feeling just you’ve been at the winter meetings you know in Dallas you’ve talked to so many different people you’ve done such incredible work both written on just baseball.com and on your Twitter feed we’ll be sure to link that in the uh episode description do you just have a feeling about something that maybe hasn’t been announced yet that’s all I I want to go inside the gut here Kevin uh I I do think that there’s there’s going to be something happen with the Cubs and and it’s weird that I did not think that when Jack and I first talked from down there but I do think the Cubs are going to pull a move and I think it’s going to be one that maybe Cubs fans are GNA be real happy about I I kind of feel like that they’re going to be more in a state of getting some people away than bringing people in I I think the Tucker thing Could Happen uh but I I really walked away from there I I guess going to Dallas I was like are they really gonna do anything with with Suzuki or with with Bellinger and and I walked out going I I think one of the two for sure absolutely so yeah I’d keep an eye on that heck of a lot can
