the breaking news at this moment is what Matt just reset it please uh the Red Sox have traded for Lefty Garrett crochet from the Chicago White Socks they are sending in the deal four prospects including two of their top five Kyle teal and outfielder Braden Montgomery uh to the Chicago White Sox for gar crochet Jim Murray I’ll start with you does that mitigate any frustration that you know that kabus would have or any Red Sox fan would have are you are you satiated by this move I think a little bit I mean I was ready to dump all over these losers and people like Matt that still after they missed out on uh Juan soda I was ashamed of you the other day like well I still want to believe like what’s wrong with you it’s been they haven’t signed a name free agent since David Price like seven or eight years ago whatever the hell that was it’s a million years ago they’ve run this operation like the Pittsburgh Pirates since I was ready to dump all over them but they needed Frontline starting starting pitching this kid’s 25 years old I know he’s got some injury history that Matt will’ll get into but he’s 25 he’s a real deal starter I thought initially with the reporting it was going to be Kyle was the only thing involved that’s what it was that’s a complete steal but you didn’t lose casus you didn’t lose Duran yeah I think this does satiate Red Sox fans a little bit don’t you think they rather would have given up cashes or Duran so I would not because I think you want to win in 2025 and I would rather give up prospects at this point uh I really like Kyle teal uh but you need pitching desperately so you needed to do something like this uh I would prefer to prioritize the short term over the long term and I’m happy the Red Sox did this year does this take the fangs out of like you know K I think corus’s frustration there and his feelings were shared by a lot of Red Sox fans oh people were pissed last night does this bring him back a little bit little bit it should just a little bit but the story here guys is the Red Sox still are not willing to spend money on starting pitching they have gone out and they have improved this team which is important this is their number one need and they’ve address this but the reason they’re trading prospects now is because they didn’t want to compete for Max Freed at the top of the market they probably don’t want to compete for Corbin Burns at the top of the market you should be doing both you should be signing Corbin Burns or signing Max freed and trading for Garrett crochet they’ve done the cheaper option here it’s made them better for 2025 so I don’t want to complain about that but until the Red Sox go out and sign a bigname pitcher at the top of the market it is still fair for us to say why aren’t you doing that why aren’t you spending the money committing the years that you should to a pitcher of that quality they haven’t done that yet so they’re still holding back they’re better it’s good I’m happy about this trade but you still should CR criticize them for that I’d like to flush out what would have been a bigger give I think two of their top five prospects is a bigger give than kasas or Durant not if you’re trying to win next year I’m with Matt on this no no I’m not talking about I’m not talking about that I’m talking about for the white socks I think the white socks would rather have cuz the White Sox are five years away right at least okay so what good is Tristan kasas or Jer Durant that those guys don’t change their fortunes no in the short term and they’re coming out of their years where they’re cost controlled so I my guess is that the white sock don’t want those guys no they don’t okay so I I think you even gave up more than saying cautious or Dr but that’s me you know what Mr Baseball you can correct me if I’m wrong on that but I find that so I it’s more of a give and it’s more of a surprise to me and we’ve started to talk about this Ma and I did the last couple days where you know is the reason they’re offering trist and cashes up because they’re willing to sacrifice the long term for the short term or they don’t want to pay casses Cassis is coming up on years where they’re going to have to pay him and they don’t want to pay him so it’s sort of it’s sort of fraudulent for them to say look we’re willing to give this up no no the truth is you weren’t willing to pay it but again that’s sort of a side topic Jimmy Stewart does this trade satiate you as a Red Sox fan no not at all you missed out on Juan sto you missed out on spending money on Topline p you just traded prospects who I guess you don’t like cuz that’s the only reason why you would trade your first round pick from two years ago in Kyle teal so like no like it and it’s for somebody who’s had one good season starting for a crappy team it’s frustrating they’re cheap their payroll is probably going to go down even more because Sam Kennedy he’s good at sales but doesn’t want to spend the money remember they only spent 40% of their revenue last year which was the bottom three of The League League this is just so that they don’t have to spend more money they’re cutting payroll and let’s see what happens with the guy who had one good season as a starting pitcher after you you’ve given up four of your top prospects 617 779 0985 is the number go ahead so to Matt’s Point look they obviously have the means to have done both they should have been in on Max freed last night and I think that that was fake you know any of those rumors because they didn’t even have a sit down with them right like and how much money were they off compared to what the Yankees spent yeah they they had a zoom meeting with him and they were off about 30 million and one year so that wasn’t serious but they have the means to so I get your frustration there if you’re trying to you know build up your rotation you should be able to do both you trade for crochet and you sign freed but if they’re just looking at that as one to one I’d rather have the kid with 5 years on freed he’s 30 31 whatever the hell he is and he’s had injury and injury history as well if it’s just one to one and this is maybe one of the only Frontline starters they’re looking to add I think it I’d rather have crochet and I’d rather have Max free all here’s what I’m worried I’m not worried I’m curious about too why is Chicago trading him if he’s 2 because he had one good season as a starter they have questions about him he had an issue he didn’t want to pitch the end of last year unless he had his contract or his contract extension or something this this pitcher is a major red flag yeah Jim Jimmy’s totally right about this there are absolute red flags when it comes to Garrick crochet he pulled a whole stunt at the trading deadline last year on a team that was the worst team in history they were trying to trade him and he said I will not go to a contender and I will not Pitch in the postseason unless you give me a contract extension when he’s 2 and a half years out from free agency if you watch that start that start he had at Fenway Park in August he quit in that start he quit there are red flags with this guy the fact of the matter is though guys beggers can’t be choosers if you choose not to spend money on the free agent Market on pitching if you choose to avoid developing pitching for the Last 5 Years drafting spending you name it eventually you’re backed into a corner where you have to do something they had to do something they got a guy with red flags they made their team better I’m sorry this is a good move is he a holdout candidate so if if he said I won’t take a trade unless I get an extension I won’t pitch unless I get an extension what’s changed so at the end of last year you know there’s no chance I guess so you got to tell me is he arbitration eligible this offseason so yeah he’s got arbitration for the next two years and then he’s a free agent okay so he’ll get paid this offseason just not the big big dollars he’ll get an arbitration award Y what what’ll that be I’d have to look at the estimates uh but I mean it’s not I mean it’s not going to be a huge big time free agent money but it’ll be a living wage for a picture of his quality okay so they can he’ll show up and Pitch with the arbitration Awards I would have to imagine he would okay I I just wonder if he wouldn’t take a trade at the deadline without an you know without an extension and I’m not going to pitch for the new team in the postseason what’s changed so the answer could be the arbitration award but we got to flush that out too well the question is do they want to extend him now or do they want to let him pitch for 2 years essentially not pay him for the next two years and then let him walk what what if your uh pictures are maybe different but what if this is a Boris guy what would Boris say he’d say wait hit yeah go year to year max out at arbitration max out at arbitration then crush it as a free agent uh you can get the guys early you tell me again sort of pre-arbitration years right like the first couple years the Cheerio kid in uh Milwaukee right like you before they even can see arbitration is when you get them once they in those last couple of arbitration years before free agency they get paid in arbitration so I don’t know yeah is this is a whole another thing like like there’s a contract thing here with this kid obviously he wants to get paid and he’s not he’s not happy with his current deal and he made a thing about it last year so what’s different you know you’re going to have to deal with this you’re going to have to pay him maybe the fact of the matter is I don’t know if the Red Sox want to pay him why not just let it play out for 2 years and then let him walk in free agency and you don’t have to pay him and in the short term you theoretically make your team better by addressing your starting rotation Mike the story is this they don’t want to pay for pitchers so they just traded six years of control of Kyle teal and Braden Montgomery for two years of control for Garrett crochet now you can say that’s bad business I would just say you need pitching but I’m telling you right now they probably don’t want to pay him they’re going to let him ride it out for the next two years and they’re going to let him walk you can be be frustrated with that as a Red Sox fan and I am don’t get me wrong but they’re better for the next two years that’s the most important thing here you they don’t want to pay for pitching they don’t pay for anything especially pitching they don’t want bad contracts and this I knew I I still think they’re going to spend some money but it’ll be in the aggregate they still are not going to sign those big risky one-off deals forget about it I say the same thing about the Patriots that they going to spend money but you like the one big contract for uh Brandon auk like forget about I and I apparently they offered it but I I just anyway um what was I just going to say his injury was Tommy John yes which is actually like good news if you get him on the back side of it right yeah I mean two two years removed from it uh yeah this will be his third season removed from it so yeah I I mean everyone’s going to have it yeah better to get it early than late so you get him on the backside of it like that’s actually good news injury was what you say I would say that their plan is to let him ride it out the next two years hope you get a lot out of him and then walk away that’s what they’ve done here they’ve traded prospects for a guy for two years and they’ll probably let him walk and you hope that you get his best two years CU he’s removed from Tommy John and he’s still in his 20s and he doesn’t have a lot of mileage on him that’s the plan here and then you stay away from guys in their 30s which I I hate as a baseball fan but that’s what they’re doing how does he pitch give me a scouting oh he’s nasty nasty nasty stuff so uh Power pitcher uh he’s got a good breaking ball uh but you know he’s kind of kind of a two-pitch guy but his stuff is so good that he can live with that really like I don’t want to draw Chris Sale comparisons cuz he’s a bigger guy this guy 66245 he’s a bigger guy but what I’m saying is 145 the stuff is so good right I mean it’s tantalizing there were questions about s before he came over here from Chicago it is it is elite elite stuff with his two pitches they are Elite so like again you’re hoping that you get the best two years out of him and then maybe you don’t repeat the sale mistake and then sign him into a big contract extension I’m telling you that’s the plan here it’s a 2year thing we were going to do all sorts of Angry Red Sox stuff and I was so ready to D I might have you guys seen this guy’s numbers after the All-Star break he kind of blows thank you 12 starts 0 and six five plus ra he didn’t get out of the fifth inning in any of his starts after he was named an Allstar o mhm thank you so Jimmy we can still do the Angry Red Sox stuff right oh you bleeping right we can cuz that’s the only good Red Sox yeah right the the only reason the only it’s that’s when it’s they they most entertaining to me okay so we’re not we’re not going to drop that just because of this fored deal ow and six after the All-Star break in 12 starts a five plus ra a 277 batting average against Real quitter let’s let’s make sure that we deal four top prospects for this clown if you like that clip check out more
