[Applause] thank you very much indeed and there’s a a very happy man indeed given because he will be going to Poland and the Ukraine now Liam you said it was important that we won for the nation and very important for some of the great players as well they’re playing a b you must be delers I am yeah um it was heartbreaking what happened in Paris uh two years ago bill and it’s been a long road for a lot of these players to get back to a major championship you know Robbie ke 20 too so it’s going to be what 10 years since they played at that level Richard Dawn I don’t think Richard played that much in Japan and Korea so for him it’s going to be wonderful for Shay given um a brilliant way to end probably coming to towards the end of his Irish career and I thought tonight was a very professional performance I can’t remember Estonia having any sort of real chances whatsoever even with 11 no even there was a there was a skirmish when Richard dun poked a free kick past his post and it could have gone anywhere but really um it was a a very very professional performance from the Irish team if we won a nitpick we can say they didn’t control the match as well as they should have done but I thought their second half performance was better and in the end you know the inexperience at this level showed with the estonians and you wouldn’t they they had two players r carded you couldn’t argue with that they were the referee was absolutely right we got a penalty it was a penalty and they’ve put the game away 4-0 it’s all done and dusted dusted and we’re going to Ukraine and Poland and I think it’s Mar and I would say you have much tolerance for nitpicking anyway have you well no no I I’m I I I’m a nitpicker as well I was screaming at the screen as well for the Irish players to to show more control of the ball to keep possession of the ball not to go long so much used the width of the pitch in the end we did and you know it looked U it was a formality but I thought second half was better but let’s let’s say it was a thoroughly professional Irish performance well senior analyst your judgment I think they did in the second half Bill what they should have done which was to hammer this team uh they played a lot better in the second half they did keep possession of the ball which was only simple stuff again 10 against 10 men 10 men and then they went down to nine men so they finished up in shambles really Estonia and the arish lads took full advantage of it and what I was saying at half time that there are opportunities away from home to finish it off if you have the courage to go on and do it which we did in the second half so the second leg doesn’t mean anything now no whereas in the first half we’re a little bit cautious maybe finish one nil and it’s still wide open or could be wide open that’s the way to to do it put the ball in the back of the net if the team’s not as good as you at finish them off and finish them off totally so the second leg doesn’t really mean anything yeah we’re through no there’s no way in the world that that’s the way it should be if that take it on its merits on the night bill you know I fancied the no score draw because I thought they’d be better than they were and they did go down to 10 men so they took full advantage of it so you know I think we’re all delighted that we’re going to we’re going to the European championships which is a great lift for everybody those players deserve it uh trap batoni you’d have to say has done extremely well to get us to to uh to the European championships and I think that gives the country a boost it it doesn’t do any harm much everything and I the light we gone anyway bill of course it’s very important for the FBI as well of course they’re going to make about 10 million they are it’s important for everybody Bill oh there’s John Delaney there he is he’s quite entitled to celebrate it and he hasn’t thrown the tie into the crow yet it was joh that did it we put it we need to get but I think it’s great it’s a wonderful to see these players and everything L said I totally endorse um and the key moment tonight was when steeping off was sent off that was a pivot moment uh because they had started to play well having gone one down but the occasion probably got to them they lost their discipline and we were uh ruthless in in and clinical the way we finished him I don’t think that I like the style of football that he plays traton and I don’t I hope now there’s a real opportunity between now and the start of the Championships at the European Champion finals to blood young players particularly uh young chamus Coleman uh and perhaps to review the way the tactics are set out as they are at the moment I think fahi should be in the side instead of Wheeling I don’t think it’s all uh good but the result is great uh and it’s great for Irish soccer and no one can always stay and Liam said it it’s hardly worth repeating it but I will that for Richard Don this was one as much in Moscow when Richard when Richard D was amazing uh and Shay given was amazing and you go back through the grp group and there were some heroic performances along the way and tonight was you know the icing on the cake and it’s great for soccer in this country everyone needs a lift and it means I think you know we go to the European championships with a squad of players that no I don’t think any other Squad of players will be as committed to playing for their country and as committed to playing for each other as this group of players in terms of professionalism and effort they really have shown themselves to be you know superb Liam referred back to that terrible night in Paris but they picked themselves up off the floor uh and to give credit to the manager you know as a group of people they have redeemed that awful experience and they they deserve it and it’s really really yeah but I mean aren’t AR aren’t you truly saying that actually at the end of the day it’s only the result matters no because you’ve been very critical of I have and I still will be critical even of elements of the game tonight but I I say this what it does show is that Sport All Sport is at a certain point a critical point about character about your guts about your character about the size of your heart and that’s something that all our teams show I mean if it’s the rugby team who’ve been magnificent uh the kill County hurlers the Dublin footballers and the Irish soccer players have now demonstrated that they as a group have enormous character and nitpick about the tactics I continue to be an analyst but and will continue to be critical no I wasn’t being critical when I said I wasn’t being bill I you you were being true to yourself yeah and true to your your own standard we have been critical Bill we have been very critical that’s our that’s our job to do it because there’s there’s nothing perfect but but overall you know to to qualify for the championship has been has been a good effort and the players I would agree with him and I think Le would as well that the players have been great and they deserve it have they recovered from France and I think we’re all the but we’re here to do a job which is you know at times uh there’s no doubt that there is room for improvement and there probably still is room for improvement now it’s been a great result tonight there’s no doubt about against n at the end let’s not forget Bill the question of character in this country is is of enormous importance at the moment the the caliber of people in our public we had a good DayDay we’ve had a good day today we’ve you know installed a a really decent outstanding man as president here and our players have done their stuff for us and and that’s good for our souls and our Spirits okay can I break for a second Lads we’ve got an interview now with the man of the match Keith Andrew finigan is here to present Keith with his champagne Keith minus 3 de here in Talent 33 degre in Rising in Dublin fantastic result fantastic result for the country fantastic for the team and you were the three men of the match well done thank you much Keith not a bad night work no it’s h it’s hard to believe you know we’ve obviously come here looking for the win but to win by four goals is is you know it’s just it’s very hard to believe you know we we W the socks off all week and trying to made a game plan we you know we wanted to press them high up the pitch and see we you know get their back for and we done that we managed to get a couple of them sent off with a consequence of that at halftime a goal up and a ManUp was there a real feeling this was an opportunity to drive at home and effectively win it tonight absolutely you know we said that half time I thought you know the last 15 minutes of first that we probably didn’t make full advantage of that you know was it was a tough pitch out there to to get the ball down and and play play good football even with the extra man but you know we we mentioned it a half time and until second half we came out and really went that them and and thankfully we got them got the the extra two goals obviously people in Ireland will be celebrating tonight as if the team was qualified how do the players feel cuz you must feel you’re there you know liter we’ve just come off the pitch it’s it hasn’t even sunk in yet you know four four goals it’s it’s hard to believe that we’ve come in and got the 40 win you know you know we’re going to treat the game second in exactly the way we treated Fair the for one and you know we’ve got to remain professional should be quite a night on Tuesday hopefully will be yeah Che well done lot you well it’ be a terrific night of Celebration no doubt about that and celebration tonight for Walters as well John look at his goal yeah it was very good it was a good move bill this this again good pass this was the time when the artist team really did get a grip of the ball theia as well gets a shot in keeper doesn’t do well Robie Keane does extremely well now he knows what he’s doing he’s picked Walters out the far post and you can see Walter from this position once he goes toward watch him getting around at the back post behind people gets his head onto it he can’t be stopped so it was a good move all around for the r and that really uh you know that really finished it off the did well I think the keeper didn’t look at Robbie Keane you know looked initially we thought he’d gone for the goal but he hadn’t he picked Walters out Walter got on the far post he meant that John oh he did yeah yeah definitely yeah yeah it was a really good ball sh a bit of vision from lobby but a good move leading up to it bill which we hadn’t done in the first half we hadn’t held possession of the ball uh like that and once we we started to do that in the second half which we did a lot better we just cut them to bits that’s right absolutely and then got what they deserve then in the end Li you looked at you looked at Walter’s overall play so let’s H let’s see it now what’s your judgment on it yeah for me it was a close run thing yeah Keith did Keith Andrew did very well in the match with the goal and then the the uh assist with the free kick but uh you know Walters was in the game all the time our tactics dictate that because our defense time and time again they look for him and he was good flicking things on this led to the goal um there’s Keith Andrews getting in the box now just see him coming in but Walters did did this flicking on holding the ball up uh and you know trapa Toni gets ridiculed sometimes for you I think people sometimes you know give give him a bit of criticism that he he doesn’t know what he’s doing you know what I mean but he he selected this guy tonight thinking well he’s going to be a problem for the Estonian defense and he was he’s a wildy old Fox trapeton Bill he really is you know he’s 72 years of age this guy’s only played three times for Ireland but he’s thrown him in at the deep end and he was very very good he got a lot of fouls uh the Estonian Defenders didn’t like him they couldn’t couldn’t get him this is his goal now he starts it off he gets the ball down gives it to Kane as John said mck does well good shot it’s an excellent bit of vision from Robbie Kane but Walters is there and he Des thoroughly deserved that yeah yeah is he here to stay Liam no I wouldn’t say so I think trapon is the kind of manager that’ll pick teams for whoever he’s playing against he jum and change the team no not all not m a great deal of players but one or two like nobody expected Cox and he got a lot of criticism when Cox played against Armenia but Cox was the man of the match now he didn’t get any criticism tonight for picking Walters maybe because it was and the favorite Kevin Doyle or the favorite Shane Long wasn’t there but he’s a wildy old Fox traeton put that performance in context that score line in context Italy won there 2-1 uh coming from behind and orand lost 4-1 these guys went to Serbia who have like stanovic and vidit and really good players they won 3-1 coming from behind so they won in Slovenia uh so this is a that score line is uh very very absolutely and of course it’s a record as well because it’s the 13th Match away from home on beaten which is fantastic clean sheet bill as another clean sheet exactly right no well these are the uh some of the views of the panel we want you to know your views and you can get involved on the RT soccer Facebook page and there’s also Twitter on # RT socer and you can keep in touch with the latest soccer news on the RTE website o o we have to uh leave it there for the moment but there’s more postmatch reaction and Analysis coming up after this break [Music] goals again oh sorry uh if you haven’t got a ticket for the Aviva next Tuesday you can watch the second leg of this playoff live on rt2 from 7:00 it’s available in HD on sview and there’s also coverage in RT radio 1 and the RT website that should be some night of Celebration indeed welcome back let’s look now at uh Robbie Keane’s performance he got a couple of goals tonight and uh let’s look Aon at uh that his first goal which was on his thirdd yeah a good predator’s Instinct here cuz uh he it’s a free kick given I thought rather harshly actually he got a book in then and then got sent off this is the skipper who misses the game on Tuesday night as well as if that really matters but Robbie shows good Predators Instinct uh here uh when the Andrews I think takes a free kick and there’s Robbie you know first man in tap in but you know got to make a hundred of those runs as say to get one goal and uh he does well yeah you actually flagged that up before the game scor he scored one of those goals in the in the in the in the group as well he came off the goalkeeper and he was there it’s like how many goals that 5 55 I think but what people never see about Strikers is they make that Run 100 times and 99 times it’s you know but the 100 time you get it and that’s what the great goal scorers have Robbie is a great goal scorer he is indeed and he got the penalty too John yeah uh well he took his penalty well I think he was well relaxed at that stage but if you you know if you’re putting money on the Irish team if who’s going to score a goal play it’s going to be Robbie Keane because of his record I mean there’s some games he’s played but like even tonight he wasn’t he wasn’t outstanding by any means in the game there’s hun getting a penalty he went down [Applause] well you see him here goep G I don’t know if there that much contact L sort of tripped himself up but when Robie K it was good good to be taking him you know the three up SLS at home well now Robbie is look at his goal scoring record I saying 53 54 55 whatever it is you know it’s a great goal scoring record so you got to stick with Robbie there been a lot of criticism uh recently about Robbie a lot of speculation he should be left out of the team and that you know there’s been a general thing recently about Robbie Kean being left out of the team the Press don’t like him John because he’s he’s had a good career and he’s earned a lot of money so they they they lik sing s they find fault with him and the life in LA but funn enough the star made a very interesting point that I wouldn’t have associated with him that some of the criticism are in fact they were seeing a great deal of the criticism of is rooted in snobbery well I think in relation to his background relation educ I don’t know that was the argument they were putting forward I think it is that Robbie enjoys life and he he’s a good L I think he’s a fantastic person I’ve I’ve met him had to sing song with him but I think I think think not that night I hope no but he enjoys uh his life and he enjoys his and he and he he he doesn’t Court the media he doesn’t talk in cliches either he’s a he’s a nice guy he’s a magnificent footballer for Ireland there’s never been a player to touch him and John and leam were great players but in terms of goal scoring there’s never been 54 that is actually 54 yeah no where the snob why’s the snobber I know I’m just telling you that’s an argument they were putting forward well because he’s earned a lot of money and no no in terms of Education in terms of background no well no just to finish off on a bit there’s been very very few very very few professional footballers who have done extremely well who’ve been well educated yeah I I think it’s I don’t understand that all now Liam you made a point very early on that the Irish game changed in the second half and you have examples of of the way the the transformation well we we we hoped didn’t we that things would be said at halftime and and uh although we lost our way of in this second half as well but this was the very opening uh passage of play from Ireland and this is what we’d like to see the Irish team do much much more of be patient in possession great cross from Ward good overlap from W great cross half chance for Robie Keane and then Daman gets a shot and Target but I think they got Confidence from that to know that they could play that way and it was going to lead to Chances and what happens as well bill by keeping the ball like that you Tire the opposition out they make fouls so they get yellow cards and consequently that’s why it became a very very easy game for the Irish te yeah at the end and it’s and a simple bill you know what I mean what what we were talking about criticising the AR team in the first half when you see them doing the second there there’s no it’s not rocket science get the ball somebody and just have the patience to keep passing it and looking for it and as and Li says the opposition when they’re down to 10 men they get very frust because they get very very tired in in in what they’re trying to do so it wasn’t it’s not there’s no risk in it it’s just the right thing to do and they did it and and and they finished yeah all right we’re going to take another break and after that break uh we’ll have more reaction but we’ll also hear from the successful manager do you have any traton I just think back [Music] [Applause] [Music] well if you haven’t got a ticket for the Aviva next Tuesday you can watch the second leg of this playoff live on rt2 from 7:00 it’s available in HD on sview and there’s also coverage on RT radio 1 and the RT website that should be some night as we said earlier terrific night ahead all right welcome back now uh we promised you an interview with trapeton he’s talking now to Dave Kelly javanni presumably a 4-nil win Way Beyond Your Wildest expectations sure sure I think uh I have to say I must to say the teams very very congratulation because in the last time we we have feeling I the Marco the team ask us and believe us that is important you seem extremely proud of your team tonight yes I think um we are proud about this um our players because um I am a little bit emotional that’s okay look at me that’s a l and um it’s important because the team believe us we choose the 11 going pitch sometime play one or play other they all answer us with the same mentality attitude personality identity for that is very important in terms of your players which players in particular stood out for you tonight my All Team all all team because it’s you no right to say Dan s leer Duff mcgi Robi Keen Walters Walters willan Andrews all team old team play very very well with the personality with performance with them believe it believe it obviously you have to be professional in approaching the second leg but with a 4-nil lead and with Estonia coming to Dublin demoralized with players suspended how do you do that we couldn’t we couldn’t we couldn’t to be superf super superficial superficial you can’t be superficial because we have to answer our people our opponent we have to to play the same the game for respect the opponent finally the Irish supporters again magnificent tonight huge amount of people very very happy in Ireland tonight I’m sure you’d like to say a few word about the support yes I am happy for them I am happy for all country because uh wait again 90 minutes we will be happy for our irand people thank you and well done no Liam he’s a lovely man I didn’t think he was that emotional though he clearly is tonight I I remember I was down tieri with him and they played there was a local band in tiary town they played the Italian national anthem and he started crying really so he is an emotional yeah very emotional very emot and this would this would be up there with with some of his best achievements you know if you look at a CV it’s incredible it’s incredible right and the last time we we qualified for the European championship in 9888 and he’s got us there again so it’s he’s an incredible guy I compared him to I told the Press he’s a bit like a bill shankley you know his this passion for the game is unbelievable um and he deserves it as do the players yeah does he ever show that emotion to the players or is he tough with the players no he was he was very upset in Paris you know as we all were as we all okay no there some of the twitters have come in and they’ve they’ve they’ve uh asked some questions uh dino Conor for instance says the gulfing class was so great hopefully now trapeton will let the lads off the leash and have a good attacking go on Tuesday well the thing who expects that well I think the thing this in all seriousness is he has eight months now or thereabouts before the Championships begin and the question is will he review uh the strategy the tactics the Personnel of the team um and will he uh be able to accommodate other players uh players who might be in it um there’s obviously Sheamus colon does the L at Wigan John what your judgment John will he do it I I i’ say he might do it I’d say he might do it bill I think now that the the pressure of qualifying uh might might release him to to to try these players out because he’s got as he’s got eight eight months now to try these players out what about Tuesday will he try them on Tuesday I would doubt it no no I think those Lads have got them to where they are deserve to play on Tuesday night and I mean but will they will they play a more attacking game will he kind of leave them off the leash as for is that a Twitter or a tweet who was asked that question because they won four nil yeah yeah I know that but I mean is it going to be let’s be honest about he’s a defensive coach so tonight we won by four nine players against us at one stage attack we we had 11 shots on target they had two tonight I think it’s a legitimate question by the way uh to ask will they will will they go Fiesta on Tuesday night exactly which is what the people would want they they’d be more relaxed perhaps and more confident and they should be able to be relaxed and confident the visitors will be minus their Captain minus a goalkeeper now First Choice goalkeeper H so they will be more relaxed but there are there are people who will rightly say that the quality of football is less than it should be can we come back can we come back John sorry can can we come back to him changing the way we play he’ll definitely give those players a chance I’m convinced he’ll give those players a chance before the before the European finals yeah and it’s up to them to take it so Coleman will get his chance so will McCarthy and it’s up to them to take it I think Tuesday night bill is is is A celebratory night because of the scor in night I think it’s Irrelevant in the overall picture of trap atony what he’s going to do because it doesn’t matter what’s going to happen and CH that there’s no way they’re going to be beaten not at all you know so the fact that he go if they go out and play and win another 5- nil it doesn’t mean that his philosophy is actually changed we’ll have to see that in the future and and you see like with what he does and the discipline and obviously the character that he brings to the to to the side but like the things that we advocate in to do are not something that you you go gungho and start leaving gaps of the fence they’re just some some basic things to change it that would be would be make such a difference I think without radically changing his thinking on how the game should be played now maybe he will haven’t qualified do that and I I hope he does I hope we all hope he does all right okay before we go
