yo what’s up this your boy Derek brench here of Memphis wire on sportsview 360.com and today I’m going to preview Saturday’s big game between the Memphis Tigers and the Clemson Tigers um a rematch from last year’s thrilling game that went down at FedEx forum um a nail biter Memphis won by score of 79 77 over Clemson now we’re in the rematch um this time is in Clemson South Carolina at their place and this expects to be a really good game this this could this could be another opportunity for either team to further enhance their resume um as we um approach um non-conference um we as we approach Inc conference play um and going into next year into the next year but uh 2025 I’m I’m referring to that but good huge matchup man and um if you ask me between the two teams who needs to win this team who needs to win this game um definitely needs to win this game I would go with Memphis just be based on you know circumstances um you know aec really not really not a really good league right now and there’s no no real you know legitimate opportunities for the Tigers to pick up quality wins once in conference uh competition begins Clemson you know they’re in the ACC they’re in the league where it has multiple bids multiple opportunities to you know enhance their resume due to playing teams like North Carolina Duke so out of the two I think Memphis needs to win this game the most going forward as you look right here at the um ESPN matchup predictor all pretty much all La Rich 74 to give um Clemson a 74.6% chance of winning this game compared to the Target is 25.4 but um definitely is going to be a really good game a game that tigers um really need to win and hands their resume to comeing off a loss where they were just completely dominated in All Phases of the game against Arkansas State at home um you need to win this game you know penny way been on record and stated that you know they’re not going to panic he doesn’t feel as though this is a Deja Vu moment where we saw what happened last year where they start off you know red hot and you know lost you know and pretty much season pretty much collapsed on him um I don’t think that’s going to happen as well but Hardway is pretty confident that these guys could um you know Circle a wagon and get things going he also believes that um you know they want to be a for seed you know they need to win this game the next couple of games you got over Miss Mississippi State more opportunities to um enhance this resume before heading into um AAC competition so I agree with that you know what I’m saying and you already I mean in last week’s jul lardy’s uh bracket rology post he had members as a a fourth seed this week is a six seed and also the loss you was you was ranked 15 at first and now you know due to losing this game they drop you out the top 25 they didn’t drop you down in the top 25 they drop you straight out of it because of that loss so it is what it is at this point you got you got a chance to make up for that loss by when he play Clemson they all rank the 9 and0 the 9 And1 The 6-0 um at home so they’re going to be looking forward to this game you know I think they’re going to be you know waiting waiting for Revenge um you know I think they could they might view it as a Super Bowl you know what I’m saying because with Memphis when whenever these teams host Memphis they treat they sell out the arena they think it’s going to be a big game it just just how it is you know what I’m saying and we look at the stats real quick um PJ Hagerty of course is the Tigers leading score with 23o um points per game for um Clemson you got Chase Hunter 15.9 rebounds and interior we got Dane danger these the tacket with 6.7 rebounds per game and for U Ian shefflin who was one of the top rebounders in the country top B Big Man U 12.5 points 12.5 rebounds per game and he was at he had a huge game last year in his matchup he’s going to be a really um dominant presence in this um game that the Tigers going to have to focus on in regards to assists it’s uh Tyrese Hunter with 3.3 and Ian sheff leads um Clemson and assisted well assist as well with 3.5 you know so Clemson um also similar to um to memph to Memphis Clemson do have a um a few quality wins on their schedule on their resume they they uh beat Kentucky not too long ago Memphis defeated Yukon and Michigan State and he got that victory that was impressive over um San Francisco and Clemson also has a win over um San Francisco as well so um a lot a lot of U huge game to um further increase the resumes for both programs you know what I’m saying Clemson you know Ian chevin releas the nation and rebound per game with 12.6 like I said and he also average 12.6 points per game as well you know so he’s like pretty much in a triple triple ground like category right now um Chase Hunter leading score 15.9 points per game she’s also shooting 39 39% from the three-point line and 83% from 83.3% from the free throw line so both of these guys were prival in what happened last year with Clemson because and did Memphis did beat him but um they had a huge tournament run last season they went to the Elite 8 you know what I’m saying and and that that just adds more few to the fire from Memphis because Memphis had everything needed to get into the tournament last season with all those quality wins wins over Clemson wins over A&M wins over um a few other programs wins over Missouri um and what killed them was the the the conference comp competition in the AAC that’s what Cru crucified the Tigers in his match up down the stretch last season so I mean that can can that happen again it’s possible but I don’t think so I highly doubt it you know what I’m saying um also it’s just you know it’s just a lot that can be go down man in these these next couple of games man a lot I think at at minimum at minimum um they have to at least lose they could afford to at least lose like one game going down the stretch in my opinion you know what I’m saying at least lose one game down the stretch from Memphis to to to you know not fall below the below the line you know what I’m saying because they could easy I could see them easily going I could see them easily become in the eight or N Seed you know what I’m saying once the tournament um kicks off you know what I mean so win this game um beat um Mississippi State and a few others and I think they’re going to be fine but um regards to the team stats Clemson has tied 166 in the country with 77 points per game um 14 they’re 191 and in assist per game with 14.1 they lost 62.4 points per game and tied 116 with 38 Point um 38 rebounds per game0 zero you know what I’m saying so you also got Chanty Wiggins uh the best three-point shooter um who also who was also a member of last year’s team that um made the uh run to the NCAA tournament and it going to the elite a um player that came over from uh Cincinnati uh Victor lak 611 um Boston College transfer um and El leite Defender Jaden Zachary so that that pretty much rounds out that that starting five for Clemson you know so Tigers is going to have to uh come in this game and bring it bro come in this game and bring it I think they got to avoid the sluggish starts in the first half but then again they mayble they may be able to do it and and get away with it due to Clemson not being this offensive Juggernaut you know what I’m saying they only have you know you really got to account for um the top score um Chase Hunter um I believe I think we could have a better matchup than we had last season with Ian shefflin the big man due to having um Dan D in there in the interior um moist s hopefully he can recover rebound um from last the last game’s performance and I think it’s going to be a good game a physical game close matchup that I have for my prediction I think Memphis is going to win this game I think the tigers are going to come P pull pull through and beat Clemson for the second straight year you know cuz uh what I knowed about P Hardway his teams they know how to get up for these big games they know how to get up for these big games it’s just that the games in the AAC is the ones that could trip him up so I got Memphis winning this game by a score of 85 83 over Clemson Neil by a close game Tigers win it get to eight and2 and um head to the next batch up um next week against Mississippi State so we’ll see how all play out and the couple you know on Saturday 10:00 tip off early game so Memphis and Clemson got the Tigers winning by a score of 8583 over Clemson all
