for our New York Mets enjoy the show and let’s go Mets what’s up Mets fans welcome back to some Breakin Mets news right here on the channel as disj multiple reports are saying that the Mets have signed closer relief pitcher starter clay Holmes three years $38 million I think this is a big bargain for the New York Mets I thought this was Clay Holm was going to get you know $50 million for over three years or something like that and what is very interesting about this signing is that you would think clay Holmes somebody would give him money to be a closer and listen it’s fine with me this is a guy that can clearly step into a e in in role as a setup guy to Diaz could close some games every now and then but according to Joel Sherman they’re going to try him out as a starter and this is probably why Klay Holmes chose the New York Mets is because the big bucks are in starting pitching in Kay Holmes case all pitchers want to be a starter right some of them are just not good enough so they become Bullpen arms I think the Mets promised him hey we’re g to give you an opportunity to start here but if it doesn’t work out you’re going to the bullpen and I think the opportunity to be a starting pitcher for Klay Holmes was the deal breaker for the New York Mets and why he probably took less money to come back to the New York Mets he stays in New York obviously so I do wonder where do you want Klay Holmes in particular um we me and Chris just had a Mets hot stove couple of minutes about 10 15 20 minutes ago right and we talk about the star and pitching plan for the New York Mets clearly they’re making Klay Holmes possibly be a starter but also he can clearly be a bullpen arm right I don’t think he can be a guaranteed closer but a S8 in guy setup guy is absolutely what we need in this Bullen and you know you could do a lot worse than clay Holmes and Edan Diaz in the eth and nth now I truly believe that when all said and done Klay Holmes is not going to be a starter that’s just my opinion and you know they will try it out in spring training probably now if these lights out and you stretch them out and he’s damn good hey that’s a huge bargain for a solid starting pitcher so Play Holes three years $ 38 million uh broke by multiple reporters uh Heyman Sherman everybody uh it’s a good sign regardless of where you see GL oh glorus sorry I saw somebody in the comments right Gores playay Holmes if you see him as a starter or a reliever again I’m more comfortable putting him him in the eighth inning spot in the ballpen but I’m not going to be against seeing what he can do as a starter right you might hit lightning in a bot here well Marcus you can’t get excited about it I don’t see why I’m not saying you know let’s you know stop buying Play Holes jerseys uh but this is a solid move right I think at the end of the day he’s going to be in the bullpen fulltime and did you know the Met probably said listen we’ll give you an opportunity to be a starter and if it doesn’t work out guess what you’re going to the bullpen and I think that opportunity probably made him s to New York Mets even if it was for less money he probably could have got more money elsewhere but I think think he the Mets offered him a possibility of being a starter and spring training is what that’s there for if he looks good at spring training stretching out putting in the Innings you know throwing a ton of pitches and stretching himself out and he’s good could do a lot worse so but if this is going to be at the end of the day a bullpen Edition this is one of the best Bullpen arms on the market guys make no mistake about it that’s a fact right yeah he wasn’t he lost his closer position but you’re not signing him to be a closer you’re signing him to be a seventh eth inning guy most likely a setup man and remember guys we got Nunes coming back from injury possibly budo in the bullpen the Mets budo Nunes Holmes Diaz is more a hell of a lot better than what the Mets in 2024 in the B bed so Nando and that’s fine if he has a 7 as a starter guess where he’s going he’s going to the bullpen where he’s seen the most success remember he hasn’t been a starting pitcher since the pitchburg days so it’s okay again we got him signed so whatever the Mets need him to do he will do it’s just that simple right this is not situation where they say all right you’re going to be a starting pitcher and that’s it regardless if you suck or not there’s an option here now there’s an option to Clay Holmes to be a number four starter a number five starter maybe better I don’t know I’m not going to say he will be but now you got an option and if he’s not good at spring training you throw him to the bullpit and he’s gonna be perfectly fine you know he’s been one of the better relievers over the last couple of seasons and you got a guy who’s been a closer the last couple of seasons and let’s be honest guys 1.61 ER 2.54 ER 2.86 ER and even in a Down Season last year where he lost his closer job he has a 3.14 ER so 20 saves 24 saves 30 saves 63 Innings throughout those years I mean you can’t it’s very hard to do better than that now remember he he actually has just as good if not better numbers than Tana Scott and tana Scott’s probably going to get 60 70 million dollar but now you have an option here right this is another situation where you don’t have a clay Holmes going to the Phillies or the Braves where he can you know beat you up in the Bullhead this is a good signing very good signing and you know you know of course as soon as the Mets hotto we spent two hours talking about the starting pitching plan and Juan stto and not even 20 minutes after the Mets hot stove ends with me and Chris Klay Holmes signs with the Mets and again this is why I keep on saying guys don’t listen to all the nonsense from reporters and all the news going back and forth with Juan stto where you hear more Red Sox and Yankees not much of the Mets you heard the Mets were quote unquote interested a few days ago in clay holes but nothing imminent there was nothing Le that this was gonna happen right right now so the Montas and the holes signings came out of nowhere without any rumors or the Mets are on the verge of signing clay Holmes none of that that’s why I’m saying guys the less news you hear about the Mets involved in a in a player there’s more likely that they’re in on him they don’t leak nothing and I think we have to remember that guys you have to remember that the less news you hear about the Mets being involved in a player the more likely especially when the Mets have a need and those players are on the market or in a trade scenario where they could be available guess what they’re probably involved in them very good sign up about New York Mets guys just so you know the news just popped up about about 10 10 15 minutes ago the Mets sign clay holes three years $38 million you could do the math it’s around 12 and a half million doll per year right give or take 12 and a half million dollars per year that’s a bargain for a guy that was one of the best relievers in baseball over the last three seasons and he was a closer so this this is beneficial for the Mets if he becomes a starter and he looks good in spring training all right you got you got something there but if he isn’t a good starter in spring training you know he what he can do in the bullpen I think he can be a great setup guy to Edan Diaz I don’t like him in the closer role and the Mets are not doing that to him but when owan Diaz is not available Klay Holmes can step right in that is a huge advantage to have the Mets haven’t really had that that is a huge bonus to have a guy who’s pitched in New York as a closer and been successful in doing that for the majority of the years that he’s with the Yankees having him as a setup guy and occasionally close that is huge Joel they’re not making him into a starter they’re giving him a chance to become a starter here’s the great part about that he signed three years $38 million you can tell him whatever you want the fact of the matter is if they need him in a bullpen he’s going to the bullpen well 18 Mets why don’t you like him as a bullpen arm he’s been one of the best Bullpen arms in baseball the last three seasons and he by the way close for the New York Yankees and he’s not going to be the closer for the New York Mets he’s going to be a setup role or a possible starter right they giv him the opportunity to be a starter if he doesn’t do well in spring training they’re not gonna put him in the rotation they’re gonna put him in the bullpen and I agree Joel I I I rather him in the pen but I’m not against seeing what he’s got as a starter because he has really good stuff he has four pitches so so if you can see what he can do as a starter in spring training and stretch him out there’s no harm in that we know what he can do in the bullpit you can stretch out a guy and still throw him in the bullpit so I’m not worried about that you know if he looks bad in spring training as a starter guess where he’s going to the bullpen it’s perfectly fine Michael that doesn’t mean the Mets can’t get Walker buer there’s still an opportunity he can get you can get Walker yeah Joel I I tend to agree with you I I’m I’m not excited about him being a possible starter but there’s no harm in seeing what he can do in Spring training obviously those games don’t matter but what happens if Klay Holmes actually looks damn good as a starter fine okay at8 met he had 13 blown AV last year in New York I agree but he’s not the closer of the New York Mets he is going to be the setup man which he thrived in by the way did you watch the postseason he was outstanding as a setup guy and oh by the way why aren’t you talking about 2023 2022 when he was one of the best relievers and best closers in baseball I’m sorry guys 2.54 2.86 3.14 have the Mets really had a guy like that that good in a bullpen no and again I don’t want him as a starter but there’s there’s no harm in seeing what he can do in Spring training Joel well maybe they are maybe they are but we’ll see again there’s a lot going on here and again just because you didn’t hear the Mets not in on burns or you haven’t really heard not in but you heard rumors of all the team’s being in on burns and freed doesn’t mean the the Mets are not in on it they don’t leak nothing the Montage and Holmes rumor uh signings came out of nowhere there was no tweets or information saying the Mets are on the verge of finalizing a deal or the Mets are in heavy talks with montaz or clay Holmes nothing it just happened uh Michael he’s not built for New York Michael you’re a Yankee fan how is he not built for New York 2.54 2.86 3.14 he was probably the one of the best closes in baseball the last two seasons prior to 2024 and the metsa not using him as a closer all the time that that’s crazy to me come on guys pay attention hold on guys hold on he he is Bill for New York now I don’t think he he I don’t think he should be a closer but you can’t deny that he was one of the best ballpen arms in baseball and that’s a fact uh Henrik said hymon blew up on Keith mcferson on wfn because he called him a Boris corpse sto and said he’s being paid to put out fake info I mean is Keith wrong I tend to agree with that to be to be quite honest with you yeah explosive exactly we were on for two hours and then there’s a signning again listen if you don’t think this is a solid sign in then then what are we doing here right there there’s no harm in the Mets trying them out as a starter in spring training those games don’t matter that’s when you experiment you experiment there guys that’s how you experiment in spring training right now Klay Holmes is gonna get tried out as a starter but if starter doesn’t work out in spring training he’s going right to the bullpen it’s that that’s perfectly fine with me and there’s nothing wrong with that and plus you got him on the bargain I’m sorry look me and Chris I think it was episode 10 of Mets hot stove we talked about clay Holmes we he we were talking about 50 to 60 Mill you know around $50 million maybe even a little more because you might get somebody to to to sign him as a closer you got him for about $15 million cheaper and I think the reason why is because the Mets said listen we’ll give you an opportunity to become a starter he has four pitches he’s a guy that has the pitch the pitch caliber to be a starter now is he gonna be one a good one I don’t know I’m not gonna say yes or no I’m not going to lie to you guys and throw [ __ ] at you but spring training is when you experiment it’s easier to stretch out a guy and see if he can become a starter and throw him into the bullpen after when the season starts if he’s not good then keeping him in the bullpen and then say Oh we gotta use you as a starter and again guys he’s not a bum if you think he’s a bum what is a good reliever because anything less than a three and a half ER is a damn good reliever in a bullpen so I I don’t know why you think this guy’s a bum he’s not a bum he’s not a bum he’s one of the better Bullpen arms on the market 2.54 2.86 3.14 find me relievers that are better than that on the market besides the Tanner Scott which is going to get closer money and it’s going to be a closer yeah explosiv he could be a rotation guy and the Mets probably gave him said to him listen we’ll give you an opportunity in Spring okay 18 Mets he’s not the closer who cares about the blown saves what about 2022 and 2023 when he was lights out as a Yankees closer you’re looking only about last year the Mets are not looking at him as the main closer he’s a setup guy and when the Yankees did put him into a setup role and in the sixth seventh eighth inning he was dominant he was outstanding in the playoffs except for one outing yeah Michael tanos Scott is the guy and guess what the Yankees are not getting him and guess what the Mets are not getting him you’re not paying 60 70 million to a closer when the Yankees got Weaver and the Mets got Diaz sorry you just not paying a a setup guy $70 million you just not now it sounds wonderful we’ve all would want that for the Yankees or the Mets if you’re a fan of that team but it doesn’t work like that Michael you don’t need him okay that’s fine fine find me other guy that was better than Klay Holmes other than Luke Weaver don’t take don’t good then you know what the same way Michael the you thought s was gonna be a disaster Yankees couldn’t fix them Mets did right and again give me Kay Holmes with an opportunity to see what he could do as a starter in Spring great great uh I’m not excited about that part but you experiment in spring training if he’s not very good okay then he goes to the bullpen in a seventh and eighth rle which is perfectly fine because he was outstanding when the Yankees moved him when he couldn’t become when he this didn’t deal with being the closer anymore with the Yankees he was struggling they put him in six seven eigh in and roll and he he thrived off of it he was better the guy strikes out guys now he had issue with home runs but again you can’t lie about the eras the eras are what they are one of the better arms in the bullpen Michael you think the Yankees are getting Burns or freed you’re nuts you’re nuts now if they don’t get Juan stto maybe they pivot to do that but then again you don’t have no offense they you got no offense if you don’t got woto Aaron judge in a whole bunch of hagwarts that’s who you got well Jose it’s not about Klay Holmes be about being the Difference Maker of being a World Series guy but tell me who is better than clay Holmes that was that that could be a Mets Bullpen person right now right you know about Nunes good B possibly but BH was not better than clay Holmes Nunes was just as good as clay Holmes and guess what they’re both in a bullpen now or going to be in the bullpen Kevin who’s the better New York team I don’t know the rosters are not done yet to be quite honest with you who knows right the Yankees made the World Series you got to give them the benefit of the doubt right I think that’s fair but Juan soda is not a Yankee right now so they’re worse than what they are a month ago right you got another year older of Cole I don’t who is in the rotation for the Yankees right now do you trust any of you trust strowman Cortez I’m not Mets 18 Mets I’m I’m not gonna say that’s not fair that’s not fair I’m not going to be that uh hunt tough no the Yankees weren’t very good could we be honest about that you had a picnic in the playoffs you played bad teams you finally faced a good team and guess what happened you got your ass kicked that’s a fact I mean you embarrass yourselves and hun you could talk about every everything you want but you’re not being realistic that’s fine right I know the mess that have W since ‘ 86 that’s why I kill him often but you act like the Yankees actually showed up in the World Series they got embarrassed at least the Mets took the Dodgers to game six right it’s okay they can trol what you want Michael do we do do you trust Montas no why should I but I’m looking at this guy being a number five or a number six not a number two the Mets aren’t a good Clubhouse they were a better Clubhouse than the met the Yankees hunt you are trolling you are you saying Mets 1986 like I don’t know that yet you had a cakewalk in the playoffs because you had an embarrassing bunch of teams you faced that’s a fact you faced a real team in the Dodgers and you got embarrassed your best player and Aaron judge embarrassed himself again in the playoffs if it wasn’t for Juan sto you guys wouldn’t be in the World Series that’s a fact your Ace didn’t cover first base that’s a problem don’t give me Clubhouse when Mets probably had one of the best club houses in baseball and that and even Yankees talked about that when they played him but it’s okay fact is this is a solid pickup Play Holes is not going to be a closer for the Mets like he was the Yankees hunt I know it was very easy for the Yankees to get to the World Series because they played like crap in the playoffs and bad teams didn’t capitalize on Yankee mistakes base running defense lack of good pitching that’s what that was the Yankees but guess what the Guardians sucked so they didn’t take advantage of the mistakes the Royals sucked didn’t take advantage of the Yankees mistakes guess who did the Dodgers and great you made the World Series great but let’s not act like you you didn’t have an easy path very easy path for that matter uh caros that’s fine and the Yankees thought so highly of Carlos Mendoza that they chose Aron Boone over caros Mendoza caros Mendoza took the Mets to game six of the NLCS with a bunch of Have Nots a broken down srino that the Yankees couldn’t fixed but the Mets did sha Mani who was on his last leg fixed him right Vientos comes in has a great season better than vulpi who’s a top prospect MVP season for Lindor and that’s with a Down Season from Alonzo a Down Season from nmo yeah not a World Series congrat congratulations you’re not getting back there again I tell you that much but good news is good news is when juano becomes a New York Met and leaves the Yankees because they’re garbage and Aaron judge bats 200 with 25 strikeouts in the playoffs again good news is the Met can have it off season right now am I going crazy about the signing no is it solid for what it is yes because he’s not going to be the closer which is great he’s getting an opportunity to start and oh by the way guys the Mets weren’t the only team that was looking at Klay Holmes to be a starter multiple teams were looking into that now I don’t believe actually uh Tim I don’t think so I I I I honestly think actually I think that’s a good number for seventh eth inning guy because there was projections that he can get like $50 million as a closer but again give him an opportunity in spring training right spring training is to experiment see what he got as a starter if he’s not good he goes right to the bullpen and is gonna be the seventh eth inning guy you could do a lot worse than Klay Holmes I mean how many time more times you want to see sha Reed Foley and adino and and all the guys that we bitched and moaned about all season want to see some you know Drew Smith Let’s Go Hunt do I not get embarrassed by being a meth fan the Mets who weren’t expecting to do anything last year got to the NLCS bad Clubhouse return return you keep on saying bad Clubhouse it wasn’t a bad Clubhouse it was a great Clubhouse all right H oh go back to the Yankee Channel because you’re just not making any sense Evan Diaz is so bad oh yeah okay okay that’s fine thank pet Alonzo I know Pete Alonzo had a great year wonderful year and you know what you know what it would be funny if the Yankees get pet Alonzo and then you have to deal with him I’m a Met fan at a heart no you’re not like stop it you just got to stop like what are you doing here like again you don’t like Kay Holmes fine the Yankees had great Seasons really good Seasons with Kay Holmes as their closer he struggled last year as a closer the Mets didn’t assign him to be a closer they gave him an opportunity to be a starter opportunity not guaranteeing anything an opportunity which is what two months are spring training up for if he struggles as a starter he’s going to the bullpen as a s8th inning guy where he drived by the way once he got taken out of the Clos RO with the Yankees he was outstanding Kay Holmes is the type of move that gets GM fired wait hold on didn’t Brian kman get clay Holmes and then get an extension with the Yankees yeah so it doesn’t get you fired again Yankee fans are funny Klay Holmes was dominant in 22 and 23 was pretty damn good for half the season and then struggled in the second half then became a seventh eighth inning guy that was very good like what do we again this is the Yankee fans that complain about a guy that was actually good for them again you complained about seino and then the Mets turned him around which clay what are you turning around for Kay Holmes I gave you the ER he’s solid I mean didn’t ah God you guys are funny I mean it might be keth mcferson but who cares Jason I agree with you that was a huge home run that was a huge home run again see when when the Yankee fans are feeling bad about themselves they have to go on Mets channels and troll which is fine that’s fine but people are acting like Klay Holmes is gonna be the Mets closer I would not be happy with that but he’s nowhere near gonna be the closer Joey he’s so good the Yankees didn’t want him sure okay that’s fine the same way you didn’t want srino I guarantee you the Yankees wish they had srino last year because I mean strowman I mean come on Cortez let’s go a Cole another year older I mean Michael he might that’s fine like that’s fine so don’t might go elsewhere pet Alonzo might go elsewhere yeah well Paul of course they’re gonna cry about Holmes be because this is what they’re gonna say oh he’s a hand me down even though he was one of their better Bullpen arms for the last three seasons yet they don’t want to admit that because because I guarantee you if the Mets if the Yankees would have resigned clay holes oh okay that’s fine because Luke Weaver is your closer so you don’t gotta worry about Klay Holmes as a CL what the Yankee fans won’t tell you was that when Klay Holmes was taken out of the closer role he was very damn good as a 6 s8th inning guy which the Mets are going to put him in if he’s not a starter yeah Joey he didn’t pitch in the playoffs why didn’t strowman pitch in the playoffs because he sucks he Hypes himself up like he’s an ace when he’s a probably number five strowman he’s not very good he pitches the contact doesn’t strike anybody out congratulations you got strowman and you overpaid for him wonderful Joey Weaver sucks okay this is the Yankee fans that don’t know anything clearly Weaver does not suck Weaver was actually very damn good can’t help that Aaron judge can’t do anything in the playoffs and drops the ball in center field right Yankees didn’t lose because of their pitching Yankees lost because they couldn’t hit Joey he might be a one-year Wonder but who else are you getting who’s gonna be a closer the Yankees don’t spend on bigname closers they never do the Yankees do a great job and see this is not my Mets bias this is just a fact and if you don’t agree with this then you don’t are you really a Yankee fan the Yan Cashman and the Yankees do a great job in bringing guys in this Bullpen that nobody wants from other teams for minimal salaries and turn them into solid Bullpen arms how many years in a row have the yanes had probably top five Bullpen arms and half the guys you don’t even heard of they’ve done good jobs in that and then when they you know I mean it’s a fact he’s he kman has been great at that the pitching coach I forgot his name but he’s been excellent in doing that right CL holes didn’t do the job they felt Luke weever could do it and he did so Mets sign more Yankees than they have homegrown talent I mean who cares I if you care about homegrown Talent OR winning I mean who cares right you couldn’t fix subarena the Mets did sorry I guarantee you you could have used Luis srino in the playoffs when you you had guys like Nester Cortez pitching for you I mean come on like yeah Joey he did it for a few weeks because that was the opportunity he had when they put him in there there what was he supposed to do he wasn’t the closer until he was Michael you wouldn’t boycott the season because you were here the whole season come on like let’s be serious yeah Cortez came in ready he was terrible who was a starter strowman sat on the bench and you’re paying him to be a number two number three starter that’s where you paid him and he was on the bench yeah Joey Andes aren’t going to get any of them they don’t pay high price Bullpen arms they just don’t do that they don’t they never do they don’t I mean that’s a fact they’re tell Cashman told you Luke we’s your closer they’re not getting Tanner Scott they’re not paying $70 million especially if they get SoDo if they get SoDo you think they’re spending more money you’re your mind how St is crying about a $300 million payroll I mean he’s going to be on the corner with a cup with for change that’s how much he’s crying about it Joey again you don’t have to care about spot who’s the other people you want because you’re not the Yankees don’t sign and and Joey you might be right but as of right now he’s your closer the fact is they don’t spend on it how they haven’t done it for four years yet they have top five bullpens in baseball every year you don’t win because you don’t hit in the playoffs that’s why the Yankees lose but let me not tell you Yankee fans because clearly you probably know you don’t hit in the playoffs pitching doesn’t win the last two World Series champions had no no pitching broken down pitching the Rangers had a ton of arms injured and the U Dodgers had injured pitchers through bpen games against the Yankees like come on Joey I agree clutch pitch in but let’s not act like the Yankees lost because the pitching they lost because they couldn’t hit they lost because Aaron judge bat in 200 with 25 strikeouts and nobody helped Juan SoDo or John car Stanton that’s the issue yeah the Yankees didn’t hit so again play homes not a bad signing not for what the Mets are trying to make him be if he’s a starter he’s probably gonna be a number four or five and if you really dick about it 12 and a half million dollars for a starter is a [ __ ] bargain now I don’t like that plan for Holmes I’m I’m honest with that but if he fails in spring training as a starter he’s going to be a setup guy he’s gonna be a seventh inning guy which he thrived in Yankee fans see this is the funny thing Yankee fans forget how good Chloe was you know I know you were you know you know licking the shoes of Aaron judge winning MVPs and bat 200 in the playoffs congratulations but the fact is Klay Holmes was damn good for you for the majority of the time he was a Yankee that’s it this is an opportunity for Klay Holmes to become a starter where the money is if he fails too bad for him he goes into the bullpen all right hold on guys hold on hold on hold on just checking some news here just making sure there ain’t nothing else coming out so you know Chris obviously CP uh spok track had Klay Holmes getting four years $14 million a season so that’s basically closure type money 14 156 million a year around that much money the Mets got him for a year less and around $15 million less not bad hold on guys I’m just checking to see if there’s anything else that popped up all right all right so let’s finish it up guys Joey I agree and and that’s another reason why you know the Yankees need to do a hell of a lot more and I don’t think they’re going to do it especially if they get Juan soda if they get Juan soda I mean good luck trying to fill up the rest of your roster and yeah John Heyman did say that pet Alonzo will give Mets the final ability to match an offer I’m not shocked by that but again if somebody offers him probably over $185 million the Mets ain’t matching that I I’d be shocked if he was if they did so once again guys breaking news met sign Klay Holmes three years $38 million giving him an opportunity to become a starter but if it doesn’t work he’ll be in the bullpen as a setup guy seventh inning guy I like a met sign in X Yankee scraps now Klay Holmes did a scrap sorry he’s had a 3.19 ER r or less the last three seasons that’s on scraps that’s fine that’s fine srino was scraps and the Yankees would have loved to have srino pitched the way he did for the meth when he had basically no pitching other than Cole so with that said Mets signed Frankie Montas just signed play homes three years $38 million and hopefully the Juan stto sweep Stakes will end in about 24 to 48 hours let’s hope I don’t think it’s gonna happen tonight I’d be shocked but if it does that would be interesting he was garbage that’s funny I I mean I don’t know what Yankee fans think is garbage I mean just watch your center fielder drop another ball on bat 200 that’s garbage with that said guys three years $38 million for Kay Holmes Yankee fan are in a troll session tonight because I mean why not right I mean Mets the Mets shouldn’t live ref free in your head it doesn’t make sense with that said guys have a good night any more breaking news I’ll Be Live Once Again Clay Holmes to the met three years $38 million have a great night guys as always Met fans let’s go Mets and we’ll see you next time [Music] City Lights in the night thr the echo concrete
