the Ryan and Rush show we’ll get right into it Ryan Pete themill the big time college football reporter was confirming what we already know and what our sources told us that West Virginia is nearing to finalize a deal with good old Rich Rodriguez coming back to the good old great state of West Virginia Ryan we’ll get into the details of all of this everything’s kind of happening well it happened really slow then it all happens fast right the es and flows of life but Ryan gotta give credit where credit’s too I’ve always been on board with you but you were pushing the Rich Rod narrative I would say six maybe eight weeks ago when Neil Brown Lost That Iowa St State game Ryan I will hand the floor over to you this is your guy it is my guy man I mean for for me and this this is when I got into West Virginia football growing up was was the richrod era the Pat White teams the Steve slaying teams weal like you know the Renaissance of the NCAA football game that that just came back this year the funnest team to use was Pat White and Steve slayen and that Rich Rod offense so like he’s been such an Innovative figure um in just the history of college football spread offense speed option and and stuff like that and and him and Mike Leech just one two in terms of like the modern day of how people think about offense with Tempo and it’s just so great to see him to to see him be able to come home man um I we all still have that bad taste in our mouth from 2007 um and and we have not come close to that moment ever we have not come close since that moment so it kind of feels like an opportunity to get back get back relevant we haven’t been we we we’ve been a relevant for 15 years we yeah we’ve had a couple spots here under Dana but the last six years was not the standard and bringing back Rich we know what we’re getting with him it is a disciplined well prepared they’re going to play hard it’s going to be a product you’re proud of on the field they’re going to be well prepared and one thing this stuff where we get blown out at home that will not happen again ever under Rich Rodriguez we’re gonna get back to playing West Virginia football the old golden blue is back bring back the band and people are gonna fear coming back to Morgantown to play it’s none of this uh you’re getting an easy win coming into Morgantown anymore the golden blue is back the future is bright and glad to have our ball coach back home to finish what he started two decades ago just feels right man I mean they’re going to wait a second two for the initial announcement obviously the bellich news uh was pretty big bich getting back into coaching SMU survives the death penalty it’s like dude everything’s just coming like back to the way it was man it feels good and I know for some folks the way Rich Rod left you know he he it didn’t impress a lot of you it he upset a lot of you and you know that is a tough one because like we have talked about the the guy the guy did leave for Michigan we we do want our coaches right at least keeping us informed we don’t want them saying things that that aren’t true especially if they know it’s going to go the other way it is a very hard industry and you know with with media you got to say the right things at the right time and that’s why we encourage you all to to peel back layers when stuff’s released not everything is always has it seemed obviously we did what was it an hour and a half ago on the heartline like we knew that wasn’t the case but that was that wasn’t like w coming out and saying heartlines it can’t like heartlines Camp came out and said he interviewed for the job it was it was more about him so we can’t get sucked you know into all that so going back to how we trod left I know we want it away but this is this is he he’s obviously grown since he’s left West Virginia he look look in the way where no leaks were out everyone’s like patiently waiting look he even cleaned up the way he did it because he wanted to do Jack state right and he he wants to do this the right way so he has definitely learned his lesson he’s from this great state he has the Buy in from all our boosters this is absolutely the right hire and I guess I would say for the folks that are never Rich Rod people give them a chance because I because you may be a never Rich Rod person but one thing I know you’re above that is you gotta win type of person and and we hired a winner I I truly I we really truly believe it Ryan yeah like you said there will be there will be and this was the big the big push back on on Rich was um how he left some people will never get over that and that’s fine that’s your opinion but I will tell you um when we win there will be room on the bandwagon when we’re winning 910 games again every single year like we were under Rich the last six years uh this is just a reminder yes he was really really good under Pat White but the three years before Pat White got there nine wins eight wins eight wins then we got to another level when he got his guys in completely 11 wins 11 wins and 10 wins Sugar Bowl win Gator balll win Fiesta balll win I mean those those are Big Time games we have not sniffed that outside of the one orange ball under Dana so um it’s it’s about being relevant man that’s what it comes down to like and I I I know people don’t like when I say this it’s not about your feelings it and and it’s not about being politically correct that Pol politically correct at your ass be nice guys you can find those at the library and I know a lot of people don’t like me saying that or like hearing that but that’s truth it’s we’re in a day and age where you need to win and Rich rock gives us the best opportunity um his Michigan stin let’s let’s shoot down this right now he they didn’t give him enough time they gave him three years he had to change the culture he was fired because he wasn’t a Michigan guy they went from three wins to five wins to seven wins and they were getting ready to win nine10 year four when he had dard Robinson and Brady hul won nine games with his players the next year who was not even half the coach richrod is going over to Arizona eight wins eight wins seven wins seven wins 10 wins the only 10- win season at Arizona um outside of last year with ffid in last year in the Pack 12 so us Arizona fans they love Rich Rod Rich Rod was great for them and then he goes over to Jack State he sits out that little uh time does a little bit of media goes in uh uh takes a year down at Monroe with Coach Bowden uh offensive coordinator then he goes to Jack state which was just a magical run 27 and 10 three years nine wins nine wins nine wins they rolled through Conference USA second year in the uh FBS he’s just wherever he’s been he’s won that that’s a fact so um people are going to get on board when we start winning I know people are going to expect it right away and I think he will uh I think he will uh he’ll make us competitive and we will be a well prepared and play hard every single game it won’t be any of this you walking walk walking out of the stadium going man our guys weren’t prepared and man we did not play hard at all in front of our home fan base we will get back to playing with that Mountaineer golden blue chip on her shoulder yeah I agree we’re not going to win every game but we’re going to at least know that we gave it all we had and yeah and it came down to the end unlike like that was the thing with Neil right I don’t mean to keep bringing it back to him but I mean we got to do some comparison here it’s like we brought up the Iowa State game when the we started on this channel talking about Rich Rod was you knew in that Iowa State game when we were up at home for a cal Rush seven to nothing and we missed that field goal we knew we were going to lose that game like you just know you’re not going to get that sense from from richrod obviously you know you want to go up two possessions where you can in that example but you you you know that a mistake could be made in a game and it won’t be the end of the game you know the next ManUp mentality will happen whatever unit needs to go out you know um on the field and and they’ll step up and do their thing so I know what you’re talking about in the episode we did before this too defensive coordinator is going to be very important higher uh Ryan because that is something that we really miss at West Virginia While You Know Rich Rod you know the good thing is he did play defensive back so he does understand the defensive side of the ball uh I would like to think better than most people um in his position would however I mean Rich Rod is also kind of the we’re talking about like kind of the father of that Tempo offense he he was revolutionary his type of offense you know when he came out with it at his time and a lot of people have copied him since so obviously looking forward to the offensive side but we need this defense that hard grinded out west Virginia Defense to to to return and obviously we’re happy Rich Rod got hired but this is when it really begins the portals open yeah coaches need to get hired like this is really the start of it all like I know we’re doing our coaches search videos and and everything like that but we are nowhere close to to being anywhere near complete in this process this is this is just the beginning well he’s got to change the culture first that’s his main thing and and we we will take a little a couple lumps in in Year One um but he by the end of the year one we’re going to be we’ll be humming headed into year number two that’s that’s what his teams have done I still think that they’ll be able to get enough guys in the portal and be really competitive and have a shot to win eight nine games in year one I need to see who obviously they’re gonna get first but every every player that’s hit the portal over the last like 48 hours I’m like man that guy would be a good fit of Rich Rod’s offense he he he’s got some speed he’s got some Tempo I I like the way he plays quarterback uh a couple of these running backs couple of these athletes it’s uh it’s uh it’s it’s it’s going to be entertaining man it’s it’s I’m really looking forward to it um but he he the main thing he’s going to do is that culture man that culture that we just was just lacking over the last five six years it it just it wasn’t good enough that’s what it came down to um get get a proven winner in here you mentioned that the defensive coordinator position is a huge higher I’m not going to say this is I don’t know if he can actually lure this guy over um his defensive coordinator two years ago Zack allly Zack allly over at Oklahoma now venol is on the hot seat a little bit Al Alli um was really good for Rich Rod uh for his first two years at Jack State then he went over to uh he was with him at Monroe I don’t know if Rich can Ure him I don’t know what the staff pull is going to look like it’s going to be hard to get a guy from Oklahoma but ven is on the hot seat maybe he’s looking to reunite with Rich Rod but anyway whoever he gets um is is is going to be paid well because that that was the main thing with Rich is the donors the big money people are all on board with this hire and we’re GNA invest and make sure that this program gets headed back in the right direction and who has a show at 12 o’clock on ESPN every single day Monday through Friday and on Saturday for college game day Pat McAfee having him on that show Rich Rod multiple times is it uh so valuable for the brand so uh we have a couple questions here in the chat but this popped up again a couple people I’m not getting my hopes up for our YouTube audience until it’s announced uh Rod Riders are going to look stupid if it’s not him guys them came out with it here’s what I’ll take it even a step further here it is here’s the announcement we’re we’re announcing it you know we like I said our our source we’re we’re not a sources guy our sources are telling us our so when have you on our Twitter when have we ever mentioned that before probably I would say the last time Ryan was during the Josh eyert but we’re not we’re not we are people we’re not burner accounts we are people that put our face to this it is called the Ry in Russia we are putting our reputations you know on the line here this this is this is it’s a done deal it’s it’s we’re just getting more and more people feeding us information as well you know behind closed doors so it’s this is here’s the announcement so everyone relax we’re going to be good the belt news came out they’re going to let it breathe a little bit it it’s I love when people said too Ryan they’re like uh it’s it’s past five o’clock and no announcement you guys are starting to lose credibility they never worked in athletics man job everybody let me tell you dude8 o’clock on a Wednesday night’s like that perfect you know you get a little storm at the end and then everyone wakes up the next morning got sports center of the McAfee to break it all down like you said Pro hopefully Rich Rod comes on the show tomorrow like I mean think that would be great you know we have Brands now ESPN our big one of our biggest alumni Pat McAfee is on at noon every day and you’re hiring now his guy and now going to this question because I did see this question before people were giving us a little bit of a hard time still uh Chris Ray 79 answer this question is Rich Rod a coach that players hit the transfer for or against I get he had success but players are transferring for richrod or even W I will take it a step back here and obviously Ryan fill in the blanks if I miss anything here we live in a day and age where it’s not necess some do but it’s not necessarily the program or coach obviously that fit they they check it out to at least make sure they can adapt to that it’s about the almighty dollar and Rich Rod brings in money from people like Ken Kendrick Pat McAfee even Pacman Jones that uh you know is is having fun behind the scenes that would not have normally been spent on a Neil Brown or another coach so yes I would say you know there are players out there that are going to want the opportunity to play at a power force School of West Virginia Rich Rod does have a certain personality he is hard on guys but some football players believe it or not still crave that type of attention I’ve talked to a former richrod player he absolutely loved playing for him he he he was just that guy that lit a fire under you but in a way you’re like I got this coach let’s go so yes I I think we are and and we’ve been saying this from the start Chris R we’re in very good hands with Rich rud and Rush let me ask you this and I I want to shout out my friend uh Joel Pinto Coach P uh who we we work together he made he tweeted out a great Point um out of all the former players everybody’s talks about how rich left and and and how it hurt has any of the former players said a negative word about the guy Cricket no everybody is fully on board because rich rich Rod’s one of them he played here he wore the uniform he’s from the state he’s he grew up right down the road so this is this is this is one of us and uh he’s going to make us proud man he’s going to just like he did the first time he may I mean I I read his resume 60 and 26 we were at the highest of highs under Rich fraud yes we did have a bad ending but hey this is what the everybody believes in Second Chance is in I think I think he’s an even better coach now than he was back then just with perspective into the portal um think if you can coach in the portal era at a level like Jacksonville State I think you’re even more prepared for a high major because your roster is the one that’s getting raid every single year by the West Virginia in the power fives he’s had to restock his roster every year at Jack State he hasn’t been able to maintain the roster so I think he’s he’s adapted unbelievably and and and why because he’s honest he’s honest with his players he goes if you’re not if you’re not willing to work and you’re not willing to uh coaching this ain’t the spot for you and that there’s nothing wrong with that like I said you can find nice guys at the library but if you’re not going to be tough be coachable then West Virginia is not the spot for you and all the former players have alluded to that Pacman Owen Schmidt uh I’m sure Pat White if you ask him and McAfee as well so uh the old Brand’s coming back that that I can guarantee you it looks like hot or at least the chat is saying I haven’t looked we’re all clearly on this show but yeah it’s it’s every like we said everyone here here’s your announcement so hey thanks hoppy you’re two weeks too late buddy I like hoppy Hoppy’s a good man no hopp Hoppy’s hoppy he’s he he he does his job he’s he’s from bu his jobs if he was here right now I like there you go yeah two weeks late now here here here’s what I want to say on the flip side of things because a lot of people are like we’re seeing in the chat You Know Rich Rod’s gonna have to to convince some people and and and you know we should give him the opportunity to speak and and and do that number one I’ll say rich Rod’s not going to have I don’t think the patience maybe another coach like Rich Rod doesn’t get a year zero and we talked about this like he’ll he’ll get a little bit of an adjustment Ryan but he’s G to be expected to to win right away that third game of the season no matter what different coach you are you know from where you’re gonna be expected to who do we play oh you know on 913 of course you know it’s but that’s that’s that’s how we fulfill the prophecy Rich Rod’s coming back so and that’s a great to start obviously there’ll be plenty of time to talk to that game and there’s so much more to even talk about before we even get to that game what I’m saying is fans are going to expect him to win a lot quicker than maybe we expected a Neil Brown or another coach the good news is we live in the transfer portal age nil age where that can happen but part two of this a lot of I see some people in the chat saying like you know this this move just doesn’t excite me he’s had opportunities elsewhere Ryan I think we’ve done a good job of talking about well true he’s had opportunities elsewhere but people are being way too critical of what he’s done we’ve been impressed with what he has but this is also the best candidate for West Virginia it really is who who who else is out there for them seriously who who is out there for them where they don’t risk having a Neil Brown 2.0 someone that’s proven themselves someone that makes a splash someone that West Virginia culture can relate to and someone that’s not going to cost an arm and a leg because you’re still paying a former head coach and you have to pay nil and portal you know why Jimbo didn’t come here we couldn’t afford Jimbo and everyone’s like oh we still make seven and a. half million dollars because he’s paid out every year from from Texas A&M yeah that’s true but he still has a team of guides he’s still expected to make a certain amount he’s not gonna take a pay cut like it’s just it’s a brand it it it’s it’s a headline he has to make a certain amount or it’s just not worth it to him and Rich Rod fits all of that and and that’s our only choice everyone two things can be true one it was the right decision and a great hire two it’s your only option and and that’s the part I don’t think people fully understand go ahead Ryan yeah and the coordinators like colon Nikki and um um heartline and and and and Stein and stuff yeah they they flirted they flirted with the job it’s like when you go to the bar you you’re you’re intent you’re trying to get the attention of somebody else you play around over there and and and you ultimately are trying to uh achieve over there and that’s exactly what those three guys did they they they never were going to take the West Virginia job I like I it just didn’t make sense from them for a fit first-time head coach this is a hard job like we alluded to of of you you got you got to know how to navigate the state of West Virginia you got to know the money people you got to get the Alum on on board and it I mean Neil kind of laid it out it’s at the bottom of resources the way to the way to fix that you got to get one of your own like we did and you got to get buying and you got to be different when have we had success in this program Rich Rod obviously Don elen to um during his era and then also Dana Dana Dana had some success we can all be honest here Dana for a little bit there with his Air Raid Offense was unique and that’s why he was able to have a little bit of success in the Big 12 Neil on the other hand never had success because they didn’t have an identity they they didn’t know if they want to be an air raid team then they were let’s let’s let’s run the ball 40 times they never they never could they never could find consistency because they never had an identity richest teams are GNA have an identity because he’s one of our own and he he knows how to win here he knows what it takes to win here he knows who to get involved and it’s he’s going to win here I I just like I put my name on that he was going to get the job I will guarantee he will win here we will be in the college football playoff within a couple years that’s why you bring them in you need him to stabilize the oh hey bet you can do it Signet Signet got we got we gotta see how the portal breaks but dude if you get a good if you get a good schedule in the Big 12 I mean Arizona state was preseason number 16 they’re in the playoff this league is wide open we could very well be in the playoff next year if they do a good job they get the right guys culture comes together and they buy in I’m not saying that they’re going to the playoff next year I’m saying he’s gonna get us to a playoff uh eventually and win a big 12 title just like he did in the Big E I would say that the Big 12 right now is very similar to the old Big E just with how open it is there’s GB Farms thank you for the donation this guy’s always razing us you’re a good you’re a good guy hey you got your Tennessee in the playoffs you can’t can’t complain much appreciate your support as always that TBO we’ll be in the playoff within a couple years clip that there you go clip it there we go I love it uh I wanna hey I’ll tell you this about Rich Rod too if Rich Rod can come back to West Virginia and be the head coach again this is just a life thing you can do anything you want you you you can you just never know what could happen hey you think you messed up you know with that girl or with something happened if Rich Rod just just remember if Rich Rod came back to West Virginia you can do what you need to do to get back on track in any shape in your life that you need to I’m I’m serious by that it’s actually actually I mean you go you gota be honest while you were you were on it Ryan a year ago this would have sounded crazy yeah it would have sounded insane maybe not even a year ago six months ago yep and and and and and to everybody’s point in the chat I disagree that the Big East was is not like the big 12 the Big East might have been better like the Big East is on par with what the big 12 is now the Big 12 is very parody lined and every game is a one possession game and it just T it takes good coaching and great culture and you can flip it just like Arizona state did just like Iowa State the the blueprints right there and that’s what rich is gonna bring here here’s another point to why you had to hire Rich Rod as well and he was the best option Barry odm the UNLV coach and former Missouri coach who we all said Neil Brown 2.0 whe we we didn’t want him and he just made six to seven million do at Purdue you’re so we’re West Virginia real you know our our our resources are limited while it’s not the worst in the world they’re still limited I mean and you’re still paying a former coach you can still get someone like Rich Rod you know what is he making at Jack State one3 one yeah I think it’s 1.1 so you do get them on the discount a little bit you do and you have to and you have to and now you’re getting money in to to to pay for a salary because the boosters really like them and to you know pay for nil as well so this it just even Ren new I think it just is like I I think we agree Ryan that Ren kind of wanted to put a stamp on a choice and and ren will definitely back this because like we said he can always give the excuse if things go bad look how much money I was going to bring in in an nil era for this but this this was the choice whether you like it or not it was the choice you had to go this way yep yep absolutely and uh um I think are asking what’s the nil package going to look like it’s going to be significantly more than what we’ve had and a lot of it is because we don’t have to pay a coach four five million dollar I mean it he I would imagine rich is probably gonna make two and a half maybe three mil so that that opens up another Mill or so for for roster construction um and and I think that just that’s how you flip this roster quick is these resour forces that that that are going to be in place right away and he’s going to be able to pay his staff more because it it does help too to get a coach at the end of his tenure where he’s like I I gotta make all this money right now he made his money at Michigan he made his money at Arizona heck he made his money at West Virginia um so he’s I mean he I think he’s gonna take a little bit less so that his staff can make a lot of money and get a really good staff around him that fit the culture and uh I see the chat saying Pac-Man’s going off again on go that’s what we’re competing with content wise we’re trying to you know give you the news straight give you our opinion and Pac-Man’s high as a kite just yelling Rich Rod so that’s welcome to the content summer got on this summer dude I’ve sent them hats I shouldn’t have I’ve dm’d with him a like I’m not constantly dming he probably doesn’t even remember me he probably doesn’t even remember the video he did yesterday and that’s oh trust me man the guy’s living a great life I I don’t mean that bad at all but I’ve sent them our he asked for our hats I sent them to him so might need to follow back on that so uh Ryan we got our guy man it’s it feels good it feels good to be on this side oh people are talking about Ren’s gonna leave over this Ren ain’t leaving over this guys this Ren’s not going anywhere number one we’ve already talked about it we don’t like it hopefully Ren’s here for at least a good bit longer but this is the job before Ren gets his his dream job he’s not going to you know go to some other university that he doesn’t have aspirations for because the boosters made him hire uh uh Rich Rod and like I said I put that in quotes for for people listening over audio he’s gonna have that same problem anywhere his go he goes that the people that are giving you money are gonna have to have a say of what no matter what stock you own and all of that sort of things the CEO have to listen to the the chairman like it’s who signs his checks I know that’s what I’m say well technically the state does but yes exactly so it it’s guys Ren’s Ren’s not Ren’s not leaving over this if a great job if an Oklahoma Job all of a sudden opens up and he goes there that’s not him leaving over us this is this is him going to a school that uh he’s always wanted to go to so Ryan he made the right decision our guy richrod is back it’s it’s a great time to be alive the prodal son has returned and we’re making West Virginia great again how about that we West Virginia football is going to be great again we got the right guy back um it’s time to spot the ball and I I I can’t wait I can’t wait for Robert Morris can’t wait for Ohio and of course I can’t wait for that game on uh 9913 it’s time to get revenge from that 913 game so you have to come full circle uh former players can’t wait for the spring uh blue and gold game I can’t wait for that I mean that that’ll be around the corner and can’t wait for the staff construction who they get in the portal um we got our guy it’s right hire and it’s uh it’s it’s great it’s it’s it’s great it’s great to have West Virginia football great again the old golden blue is back and uh it’s time to start winning some ball games again thank you
