more can we say about the NHL’s thirdd star of the week oh man what a string of performances from Lena almark U three games three wins he gets the shut out his stats are incredible of course Ross I’m happy that he’s named a star of the week in the NHL but this guy should have been first or second star of the week I didn’t see any shutouts for Leon dry sule or Nathan McKinnon so come on come on and both of them did have incredible weeks they each had nine points in three games pretty decent y but Lena alark was outstanding and the huge reason why Ottawa was able to shut out Carolina on the road on Friday and because the game against Pittsburgh went to overtime his goals against average for the week is 99 below that number one and a save percentage a 967 we shouldn’t even be surprised though py because lenus Almar has been outstanding since November 25th now this week is December 9th to 15 so it’s more impressive he’s continuing it sure but Lena Almar has been all the way back for about three weeks at this point yeah I mean his last regulation loss was that heartbreaking game up against the Vancouver conu so I’m prettyy sure he’s 60 and one correct so with a 950 save percentage Yeah like can’t get much better than that so Lena somar and Travis Green said it this is the goalie we envisioned when we acquired him I know a lot of s fans at the start of the Season they’re a little shaky and they had the past trauma of acquiring goenda oh no Lena alark is just another one of the goalies that the Ottawa centers bring in it doesn’t work out you had to be more patient than that because this guy’s resume is so good and it’s been good consistently throughout his whole career so you knew it might take him a little while to get it but he’s got it now and Lena SAR is our guy lenus Almar was last named an NHL star of the week in the week ending February 26 2023 now why is that notable he was also the third star of the month in February 2023 well the following week exactly one week after lenus alar was last named a three star of the week was the last time an Ottawa Senator was named a three star of the week let me take you back to the first week of March if you’ve been a longtime listener of locked on Senators that’s where py and I were in Cabo for my bachelor party the send had just traded for Jacob Chan and it was K jaru named the second star of the week he had nine points in four games including three goals and six assists he was a plus seven with zero penalty minutes and 10 shots on goal that was also the week they had those two home games against Detroit where they beat the wheels off of them in both so that’s how far back you have to go for the last time an Ottawa Senator had that League honor yeah Ross it was a little depressing we decided uh to search for this and we started scrolling through and we’re like um definitely not this season let’s see if late last season uh we got one and we scrolled through the entire last season and nothing so it was a little bit depressing when we couldn’t just scroll through weeks we had to hit the seasons Tab and go back a couple years to find one but those days are long behind us I have a feeling we’re going to see at least Ross at least one more star the week the rest of this season maybe even Lena Hallmark again like that wouldn’t be that crazy no it wouldn’t be that crazy the way he’s playing right now he’s so much fun to watch and the the Ottawa Senators are getting a ton of confidence by the way the time after that when jiru won it in March was also clo jaru the last week in of uh the last week of January in 2023 so uh two for G and now lenus alar can add another one to his achievements but if you asked alar and they did yesterday in Seattle TSN 1200 Gores Wilson and he said this is a team award very nice of him to say but clearly elar is doing his thing between the pipes we hope that continues tonight we expect lenus almark to start in goal and as it stood yesterday in practice the other goalie on the ice was Levy marilan so we’ll see is not even on the trip Ross well there you go so will be Levy Mar backing up here’s the lines we expect for tonight no changes for Ottawa Josh Norris between Brady kachuck and Drake bson Tim stla centering CL jaru and Adam godette Shane Pinto with Nick cousins and Michael ladio and the Alberta beef line Zack ajuck with Noah Gregor and Ridley Greg on the back end Jake Sanderson with Travis hammeck Tomas Shabbat with Nick Jensen Tyler cevin with Jacob Bernard Docker py I was very close to making the official change in our lineup Graphics I haven’t but Thomas shabat and Nick Jensen’s the top pair on this team yeah I mean it’s a little sad to kind of officially demote Sanderson like that but it is clear that those two have just been by far the best two defenseman and the most stable pair so I’m glad to see that they’re back together because that’s something where Tom Shabbat deserves a partner that he can work well with and it just elevates his game so much and Nick Jensen can’t say enough good things about this guy he’s been exactly the piece that the Ottawa centers need just the two of them together man it’s it’s been great to watch and I know we were a proponent of trying Jensen with Sanderson more to just get Sandy going at this point but hey they kept it together and Thomas Shabbat a plus nine in his last 10 games got four points had that goal and an assist um don’t tell Tristan Jerry about the assist and then Nick Jensen’s just an absolute stallion back there he’s got five points in his last 10 games so he’s even chipping in offensively now I I was looking py before we get to our locked on players here quickly Adam godet who’s been a little quieter as of late and that’s fine you don’t need him to score every game but over the course of these last 10 games where Ottawa has a 72 and one record pills Adam godet leads the team in even strength points what yeah Adam godette has seven even strength points in his last 10 games first on the Ottawa Senators Brady kachuck and Tim stla are tied for second with six even strength points a piece if you would have told me that at the start of the Season Ross I would have laughed at you that is crazy that Adam cette is the leader in even strength points dur and well during a successful streak like it would have been the old adage where it’s like oh that’s great for Adam God but bad for the team if he’s leading the team in even strength points but there you have it Adam godet with five goals and two assists all at even strength now there’s been lots of good performances over this 10 game stretch we got into that with creature on yesterday’s show but pillsy tonight’s game we’re on to Seattle who’s your locked on player to watch my locked on player Ross and we’ve already mentioned him he’s the other Ottawa sender who’s had stars of the week clo jaru uh look Timmy had no points on the weekend like we mentioned with creature uh and they’re still able to have some success but I want to get that going and funny enough we just talked about Adam godat even strength so clo has been he’s been fine but certainly not the cloo we’ve come to expect Ross in the last eight games he only has two points uh a goal and an assist so I want to see clo jaru step things up here because he’s a big part of this team I know he’s he’s continuously snapping it back in the faceoffs which is one of the top reasons why the Ottawa senders were so interested in him so he’s doing his part there but I want to see see him start to create some offense with Tim STA and Adam gotad and he’s part of the PK that’s perfect seven for seven in their last number of games auttaa didn’t take a single penalty on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins clo jaru by the way his ice time is down almost four minutes per game from November to December he averaged 20 minutes and 26 seconds in November and he’s down at 1640 in December so a little bit less time on ice but K jaru did get an assist on Saturday’s opening goal with Thomas Shad he did a great job of holding and getting jar out of position and then Wheeling Around the Net and making a smart play there so I like that call py I’m gonna go a little bit of a different direction here I’m gonna go with Michael amadio because he’s had a couple assists in recent games and that third line just looks like it’s ready to be a contributing factor up front Nick cousins could have been a call here Nick cousins has four points in his last games during this stretch right he missed those first two games he had the flu missed the San Jose game and the LA game but since he’s been back he’s been great but Michael amadio no goals in his last 10 but he’s got four assists now and the Senators are 60 and one when he finds his way onto the score wa for that stat I need to get it in because hopefully amadio sees that and he’s like hey I need to chip in a little bit more offensively but they’re playing great defensively this Seattle Kraken team will get to in the next segment they’re not that deep I I don’t think so at least so I think that Michael mtio Nick cousins and Shane Pinto’s line could be a big reason if otta was going to win this game why they can so I want to give Michael amadia a bit of shine he’ll be my locked on player to watch tonight it’s a 10 o’clock start secrets for staying up for these 10 p.m. Eastern starts secret number one don’t be in the Eastern Time Zone oh you stole one of mine Ross we’ve had a big time zone uh battle this week thankfully you take care of that because time zone just put me for a full loop but yeah uh yesterday with creature we had me in mountain time you and Central Time and him in Eastern time so the time zones have just been crazy and then obviously this game is going to be in uh Pacific time so time zones can either help you or destroy you so we’ll see how it goes well our guy Blaze who’s reached out on Twitter we’re trying to work out a way to get the Northern Light citizen by the way I haven’t even told you this Blaze is we’re dming back and forth he’s in the Arctic right now and we’re working out a time zone situation there but we’ll get to those secrets do want to preview the postcast though because we had such a blast on Friday and Saturday it’s going to be me Marian and Jack tonight and then py will be giving us a boots on the ground report for the game in Calgary we’ve already had citizens reaching out in the comments bzy there’s gonna be a lot of s fans at that game in Calgary on Thursday been doing their thing this season they don’t really scare me that much but they are a pesky bunch and do have some guys who can put the puck in the net here’s how we expect the Seattle Kraken to line up for tonight’s game centering the top line is Maddie bers between Jay Jaden Schwarz and don’t call me Chris it’s Brandon tanv second line is Chris Stevenson with Jared mccan and Andre burkowski we’ve got Shane right between Ellie tolven and Oliver Bor Strand and Mitchell Stevens centering the fourth line with Ty Cartier and Ryan Winterton on the back end it’s Vince Dunn with Adam Larson Jamie Alexia with Brandon Montour and rker Evans with Will borgan in goal my guy Joey dord and Phillip gust I almost said Philip G I’m so used to those two being two bees in a it is Phillip but it’s Philip guau with the G Philly G how about that Philly G is other goalie there py how are you looking at this Seattle Kraken opponent the Seattle Kraken are just such a mid team and I don’t know if I mean that as an insult or a compliment Ross like the you know the glass half full argument like they’re not half full or half empty that’s just a half glass of water they’ve got 32 points in 32 games yeah and Ross they’re the only team in the NHL with a zero gold differential the same amount of goals scored as allowed like they’re just they’re just mid in every single aspect of the game like I for keys to Victory and we’ll get to that later but typically I go to NHL’s steam team stats and I rank every single stat there and I try to find outliers like is this team really good or really bad at something the Seattle Kraken are within like 18 to 22 in every single statistic category so like there’s no like big thing to worry about for them and there’s no big thing that you can take advantage of them either so just an all-time mid team and uh hopefully the Ottawa Senators can Flex their muscles in certain areas and take care of this team and keep that win streak going they even have like basically 500 records on the road and at home it’s not like there’s a big split one way or the other they the only team right now in the NHL with an exactly 50% points percentage and not only that but in their last six games they’ve alternated win loss win loss in overtime win loss so we got to break that streak because if that’s the case they’re due for a win they’ve also kind of been up and down they beat the Rangers seven to one then they beat the brues five to one but then they lost 5-1 in their last game to the Tampa Bay Lightning and a shootout loss against the Florida Panthers this is their fourth and final game of a home stand where they played all Atlantic division teams in Florida Boston Tampa and now the Ottawa Senators they’re going to be going on a 4 game Road Trip after this so hopefully they’re already thinking about did I bring my toothbrush did I pack my my gel is everything in place we got to get a win tonight for the Ottawa Senators to get to three games above 500 but who are you looking out for on this Kraken roster I will be looking out for number 62 Brandon Montour um this was one of their massive uh free agent signings Chandler Stevenson being the other where they dished out huge money for long-term they’re really trying to add some juice to this team and Montour was a guy that the Florida Panthers knew they just could not afford to keep after that Stanley Cup run and he ends up getting the bag in Seattle so congrats to him but Brandon Montour kind of had a funny career because he couldn’t really get it going uh in Anaheim then he goes to Buffalo and well we all know anyone that goes to Buffalo things don’t work out and then they get traded and then they have an amazing career after and they win the cop right away yeah Ryan O’Reilly Jack eel and uh you can add Brandon mour in there too and Sam Reinhardt so leaving Buffalo is the best thing you can do for your career uh they’re on a 10-game losing streak also uh but Brandon Montour funny enough Ross they were ahead by the way Buffalo is ahead of Ottawa like two weeks ago in the standings yeah not anymore pal see you I got standings up right here actually now Buffalo has 26 points uh they eight math guys six points back of Ottawa and ottawa’s got a game in hand man if they had a really good goalie like a lenus alar type imagine what that team could do wow but sticking on Brandon montor he loves playing the SS Ross uh in 22 career games up against the Ottawa Sanders he has five goals 11 assists 16 points pretty decent for a defenseman that those 16 points are tied with the most points he has against any team in his career the other teams ironically Ross the Buffalo Savers are one of those he has 16 points and seven games and then uh oh I think those are the only two and then he also I thought you gonna say Anaheim Anaheim six points and nine games Okay um but he also has the green light when it comes to putting the puck on net he is also tied for most shots on goal against any other team uh 58 against the Ottawa centers 58 shots in 22 games for a defenseman like he’s letting it fly so he’s a guy that I’m going to be looking out for on the Seattle Kraken because they have a lot of defensive mind guys on that team you look at Alexia Larson borgan like those guys are really defensive minded so Montour is going to be the guy kind of driving the offense from the back end I know Vince Dunn had a great year last year but uh he’s only played I think 10 or 12 games this year so montour’s really kind of picked up the slack there so I’m gonna be looking out for Montour creating offense on the back end for the Kraken yeah I think that’s a good call they Tred to do the the similar thing that Ottawa did but they just went for bigger paid players uh in terms of bringing winning culture into their organization with Brandon Montour as well as Chandler Stevenson I might have called him Chris there right off the bat but Chandler Stevenson I still Chris on my mind from tanv but Chandler Stevenson gets the cup with Vegas and Brandon monter gets the cup with the Florida Panthers nobody’s going to be surprised at my Lookout player it’s going to be the guy between the pipes Joey dord um I’ll tell you one thing about Seattle and look you talk about how mid they are how 15 15 and two well joy DT’s 12 six and two so he’s not mid he is an extremely talented golender just got his big ticket contract five-year extension he’s got a 916 save percentage this season a 2.42 goals against average and according to money.com has the eighth most goal saved above expected in the National Hockey League this season funny enough though he’s third among xense goalies cam talbet Philip gusers and both ahead of him on that list but Dax is just a gamer you know he’s going to get up for this one Ottawa got lucky and Philip guau in goal when they shut out Seattle earlier this season in uh in dak’s career against Ottawa I think he was in goal for that forsburg shut out not this year but last and um since moving on obviously in Seattle he’s not going to play against Ottawa a whole lot here but his stats this season are and you knew it was coming too like last year he didn’t get the victories necessarily but he still put up a 916 save percentage last year as well so clearly the Kraken were comfortable on betting with the upside on this player he he’s just such a stud so I’ll be watching and looking out for Joey to cord I don’t even really think there’s a big weakness in cord’s play you just have to be able to get a lot of pucks on him and he’s also he is coming off an illness he missed the game against the New York Rangers they had to uh they had to call up a uh emergency backup to sit on the bench a finance guy for Manhattan did he run to the rink yeah I don’t know I don’t think so no that’s that’s Ottawa come on baby come on that’s Ottawa but U no all in all and you look back back at the courts time with the Ottawa Senators as well only got into nine games started seven and had one Victory phy but uh pretty unfair time for him to come in and uh Matt Murray just could not stay healthy and uh forced him into a few extra games but happy to see Joy deor do well hopefully though not tonight and Ross I love what you’re doing here I don’t think you did it on purpose but we are famous for anytime we talk about any goalie they do not start that game so great you’re taking a page out of my book with the reverse psychology great move highlighting Joey dord saying you can’t wait to watch him just to have the Seattle Kraken almost guarantee that they will start Philip guar since you spent so much time talking about Joey Dort so excellent move Ross well done in two games against Ottawa Joey dord is one and one with a 951 save percentage and a 1.53 goals against average yep that’s that’s very good that’s very there you go okay py that’s tonight’s matchup senators and the Seattle Kraken on the other side how do we stay up win streak we we’ve got him uh in check for when the autwell centers get to a six-game win streak so I hope we have creature on sooner rather than later well it’ be Monday that how about every Monday uh when the Ottawa centers continue their win streak we just have creature on yeah and we should say we’ve got some great things planned for next week as well the Ottawa Senators are off from the 23rd to the 28th well 27th they play on the 28th in Winnipeg but we do have a trivia show plan where our friend Mark Kad is going to do a Jeopardy style trivia with us that’s expecting to come out on Christmas Day and then we’ll have a world juniors preview with Scott wheeler on boxing day the day that the Tournament begins pillsy this is not a must-win game but it’s one I would really like to win I’ve got that winning feeling I love hearing danger flutes after the game what’s your biggest key to victory for the Ottawa Senators tonight my key to Victory Ross and I think you mentioned it earlier but it’s something that the Ottawa Senators have really figured out lately and that’s the penalty kill no uh Power Play Goals against in the last three games and they’ve won their last three games so why not keep it going like you mentioned great discipline from the SS in the last game up against the P Pittsburgh Penguins you know the best way to have a good penalty kill Ross don’t take penalties if you don’t have any penalties your penalty kill is going to be 100% so I think if the Ottawa senders can keep the Seattle Kraken off the board on the man Advantage like the Seattle Kraken don’t really have like an elite finisher on the power play like maybe you could look at mccan he’s kind of been their top goal scorer the last couple years but there’s not one guy where you’re like oh man on the power play we got to Circle him and uh we got to shut him down so I think the penalty kill can continue being successful and that is my key to Victory I love that I’m going to go with the power play because the power play has been great on h i but it hasn’t necessarily had the same oomph on the road so I want to see the power play produced we know that this team has the talent upfront to get goals with the man Advantage currently overall the Senators ranked sixth in the National Hockey League in power play percentage they’re sitting just over 26% but on the road on the road their power play is 27th in the National Hockey League like that’s split at home they’re one of the absolute top teams but they can’t seem to get that same presence on the power play on the road so I’ll be watching for that PK to try to pick it up PP to kind of pick it up a little bit the Senator’s penalty Kill by the way on the road is 29th in the league so special teams has really cost them on the road now against Carolina I felt like it did a lot of good things but I would really like to see an extended period where the senator special teams doesn’t let them down when they’re not at home yeah agreed I I knew the road home splits were pretty separate Ross but I did not realize it was that bad and they got a nine game Road Trip a franchise long nine game Road Trip so hopefully they can figure at least one of those parts of the maned or special teams out Ross but I mean it’d be nice to balance out both of them so yeah great Victory credit to us number two at home on the power play by the way 27th on the road second verse 27 you’d rather be better on the power play at home keep the uh the fans engage but let’s yeah let’s try to balance that out a little bit let’s do it okay py how do you do it how do you stay up when you’re at home when you’re on the Eastern time zone is there any secrets are you a nap guy are you a coffee at at 9:30 p.m. guy like how do you keep it rolling so typically if I know especially usually when there’s 10 or 10:30 p.m. starts it’s usually a couple in a row so I’ll basically I used to do factory work uh when I was saving up to go to the College of sports media working at Toyota factory so I would have night shifts for two weeks then date shifts for two weeks so you got to find a way to climatize your body to late shifts so I would start a couple days before I would just be staying up till 2 am and getting my body used to that so that’s what you start with um I’m not a big nap guy I can’t fall asleep during the day my brain is just spinning with bad takes and and terrible things to say on the podcast so I can’t sleep and then wake up during the day um but I’m I’m not so much a late night Coffee Guy Ross you know me I’m a big energy drink guy probably should cut down on those now that I’m in my 30s but I still love them um so usually I crack open that energy drink at around the second intermission so that if I’m losing yeah if I’m losing a little speed because I’m doing the postcast after right so I want a little extra energy to run through not only the game but the postcast as well so that’s how I handle the late night games Ross okay good I’m a coffee at 945 guy like right when the right after they come out for warm-ups I’ll be like okay it’s time to dial in here let’s get a coffee going and say what up to dashy and the next thing you know you settle in on the couch and Away you go from there and and S Twitter is just so active too that you’re in the game like you’re you’re just buzzing around obviously it helps when they play well so we’re hoping that that is a way that keeps people into the game here in the second and third period but I know that Mendes put out that roll call in the third period of the San Jose game and it’s like we’re we’re just trying to hang on for two points here in that game but um in this game you’re hoping that Ottawa can dictate a bit more of the play and just like they have I mean they’ve been controlling the puck and and really doing well over these last three games so it’s just about keeping those same habits intact even though you’re not at home anymore now how has your late night routine changed since being a new father like has that has that really made it more difficult to be up late or it’s kind of like ah time is irrelevant for you and you’re kind of up all over the place yeah time doesn’t really doesn’t really have an effect just feating schedules that’s your that’s your time exactly well we were also still at the hospital for that San Jose game and then those two games on the weekend were kind of like uh afternoon games on the west coast so they were only like an 8 8:00 pm start eastern time so those weren’t too bad tonight’s going to be a first real test and I’m at the office until 9: and the puck drops at 9: so it’ll be good I’ll be back I’ll listen to Dean and gourd for the first period and then dial in for the second so I think that’ll help tonight but not only that we also um we also just um you know really rely on the feeding schedule so there’s a bit of a Witching Hour it feels like from about 10 to 11 where uh she gets a little outrageous but uh maybe just the so the soothing sounds of Kenzie Lon on the TSN broadcast tonight will keep her intact so uh either way we’re just fired up here to get another s’s game day I know they’ve been playing it felt like every night over the course of the last while the three and four but now with two days off hopefully the boys been able to acclimatize to the Western time zone because that was that was wild the San Jose game where they flew to San Jose and played the next day so at least they got that extra day here to settle in I saw a bunch of them had field passes for the cawks Green Bay Packers Sunday night game so they’ve been able to enjoy themselves a little bit they got back on the ice for practice yesterday no morning skate today s will speak to the media I think it’s about 1:30 p.m. eastern time but all roads lead to 10 pm Eastern when the sends take on the Kraken we’ll see in the postcast after the game py any final thoughts on today’s show yes I do have some final thoughts Ross as we mentioned this will be the longest road trip in franchise history um courtesy of the Ottawa Sun they took a look at the last time the Ottawa centers have had long road trips um they’ve five times they’ve had a road trip of at least seven games and it’s a little concerning Ross and I’m not trying to put bad vibes out there I’m just reading off stats in 2021 they went one and six in in uh 2017 18 they went one five and one these are the two of the worst seasons in franchise history right there yes thanks for pointing that out in 0 809 one six and one okay and then arguably the the darkest days of the s when they first were a team in 9394 they went one and seven so the auto that was probably that was probably their season average back then yeah true that actually might have been a sweet road trip for them they come back like hell yeah we got that win um but basically what I’m saying is road trips have not been kind to this franchise when they’re long so let’s flip that around I want to see them flip the script Ross or flip the switch however you want to say that one um because they cannot afford to have a road collapse like the did last season no they can’t afford it and really this team it feels like they’re mentally stronger that I don’t think they’ll allow it so hopefully this is a sign of ending that but we also talked about it yesterday py this is not a normal nine game Road Trip you’ve got a full week off in between so I’m sure the Calgary boys are happy that they end off on on this uh road trip in in Edmonton on Sunday so Sandy can just go see his family down the road I guess cic’s not there anymore but we got the Alberta beef the Alberta be a so they can just go home and then meet up in Winnipeg I believe on Friday before that Saturday game so it’s really A four game trip right now let’s compartmentalize this a four game Road Trip where the Ottawa Senators are in Seattle tonight Calgary Thursday Vancouver on Saturday and Edmonton on Sunday and then we’ll regroup for part two of the road trip which is a back-to-back against the Jets and Wild on next weekend and then they’ve got another three days off for New Year’s and then they’ll be back for another backtack on Thursday Friday and then they’ve got three days off before that last game against the wing so let’s break this into little bite-sized pieces it’s not as daunting that way let’s call it a four game trip with an asterisk that really they don’t play at home until January 9th against the Buffalo sabes you think the Sabres will have won a game by then God no I mean that team is in shambles well they do play Montreal tonight so if you’re going to win no comment on that one okay for Brandon Piller I’m Ross Lev and this has been another edition of the
