[Music] what’s going on everybody welcome back to another video and today we have a prospect update on Kevin he been a long time since I’ve done a prospect update I apologize for that but Kevin he as they say is him and uh he’s been lighting up the OHL we’re going to talk about what he’s been able to do this season but one of the most you know maybe surprising Jets prospects of recent memory uh you know this whole draft class that they had recently while a small Class A lot of guys have been popping off like Kevin heat and he’s one of the OHL leaders in scoring right now Kevin’s a really interesting Prospect still just 18 years old playing for the Niagara Ice Dogs actually the captain of that team right now plays on the left wing 6 foot round 180 drafted in the fourth round 109th overall by the Jets in the most recent 2024 NHL entry draft one thing that was really interesting the Jets traded up in the fourth round to select he you know part of the reason their class was smaller and I’m a big quality over quantity guy so I love that move and they went out and they got a dog early on in the OHL season he was leading the league in scoring in the OHL you know a guy was like way over Point per game play still is now uh obviously you know that’s not sustainable he’s not going to be scoring you know three goals and three assists every night like he did uh you know a few nights in the beginning there but he is really really improving on what he did a season ago last year 64 games played Just 53 points did have a 30 goal season as he had 31 this year after being named captain he has totally knocked his you know career highs in the ol completely down as he now has just 29 games as the time of making this video and 43 points he’s projected to have 98 points by the end of the season and a 50g goal year Kevin he is having a year to remember now one thing that I really like about Kevin he is he’s versatile and this guy has an engine on him that never stops he’s just always going 110% this guy never takes a shift off he’s a great skater and you know not a big guy you know 6′ 180 he’s going to grow a little bit there too I’m sure but just you know powerful just a powerful skater he moves with a purpose and you know just a great defensive player as well you know we saw it in preseason with Winnipeg he was on the four check uh know really nice stick work and you know just blocking the lanes just a really smart player but at the same time you know like he can just steal pucks he can generate offense by doing that you know turn it over go the other way and that’s something that you know the Jets could really use you know now and going into the future uh they have a lot of great offensive prospects they have a lot of great defensive prospects but I don’t know if they really have you know too many of them that do both and Kevin he you know while this is a career high right now going for him it’s only 29 games this year maybe he does fall off but if this continues it won’t be long until we see him in the NHL and yes it is the OHL but sometimes when this guy’s moving around like the just look at this like does this not remind you of like some of the guys that are on the Jets right now like a Kyle Connor like a Nick eers just the way he Cycles the way he goes in and you know just I don’t know Ju Just does it himself you know it’s really impressive now is he going to be able to do that at the NHL level we’ll have to see but I really am super impressed with how he’s carried himself through the first 30 games of uh you know junior year uh in the season he’s done really well and uh I’m really excited to see how he develops as a prospect now another thing with Kevin he at the time of making this video the Jets have just signed him to a three-year entry-level contract he is the first Chinese born player to ever sign an NHL contract so that’s really cool congratulations to Kevin he knocking down some barriers and you know inspiring some children of Chinese descent that’s really cool and uh you know happy to have him in the organization obviously seems like a really cool guy from the interviews that they had really nice kid so uh you know can’t complain about that one one bonus there and uh you know congrats again to Kevin another interesting fact here about Kevin heat is that he’s also if he plays one NHL game the first player in NHL history to have a two-letter last name no one has ever had two there’s been last names with three letters but he will be the first name plate with just two so pretty interesting there so if Kevin he ever does make the jump to the NHL which I have faith he will uh you know could be history if someone doesn’t beat him there before but I don’t think that there’s any prospects uh you know on their way to doing that anytime soon that I know about anyway so now Kevin he is signed where does he go from here not really sure uh you know he’s not going to be NHL ready anytime soon I do think you know he’ll finish out his year of Junior this season uh maybe he does get some games in with the Moose at the end of the season after his OHL year is over uh you know he’ll have the option to do that um we’ll have to see really going forward here what happens I do think he’ll probably still be in junior next year as uh you know won’t likely have a spot on the roster unless he steals one from a Jets player just don’t see that happening uh but yeah you know moose player in the future here I do think that he is still going to be you know a little bit of a project there are guys in front of him in the organization like a Lambert a chiov Braden Jagger guys right now have priority they’re more developed Kevin he while he is having a great year in junior I do think you know does need to have some polishing but from what I saw in the preseason I don’t think that he’s very far off I think he’ll be in the you know Pros by you know 2021 um we’ll see what happens with Kevin but I do kind of project him to be a middle six forward probably closer to you know a third line energy guy think of like a Brandon tanov but maybe a little bit more offense maybe a little a little bit more consistent offensively that’s kind of where I see Kevin he’s got the motor he you know he’s just going in there quick he’s going in there fast big effort Guy this is a guy I can see coaches loving in the NHL um and this is a guy that the Jets could you know definitely use right now uh but uh you know they’ll be happy to have him in the future I’m sure but that’s all I really got today uh Jets signing Kevin he to a three-year entry-level contract First Chinese born player ever in the NHL so it’s pretty cool uh what do you guys think about the Kevin he signing how do you think you know of him as a prospect let me know down in the comments below that’s really all I got today guys leave a like And subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already I’ll see you guys in the next one go jets go bye-bye
