game in the end how did you assess it just like that really um you know they caused us a fair few problems um you know I think we came into this game obviously especially with the circumstances that you know sath Hampton are going through they knew they were going to you know come out fighting and we had to be ready for that um you know and I feel like for a team you know that we put out there today some of us haven’t played much the season you know we had really young Lads as well and you know I think we fought as a team and um you know thankfully we can come away the Tyler was one of those young Lads in the team as well you must have been really pleased with the way the team started there and got control early on yeah definitely I think it was a tough test for us uh a lot of the young Lads coming in TR making his debut it was it was lovely for everyone um so obviously it’s it’s tough it’s tough staying ready and staying um ready to play but I think everyone that played today was was ready and and I think the GAA CH different side and and it was it was tough for us at the start and I think we gain control very early on which which giv us a lot of confidence and especially myself so yeah absolutely and those two goals that you got early on seem to put you in a really good place Harvey were you surprised that the Way South sou hampson did come back at you um I would say surprised to be honest because you know if you look at the Premier League game they cause US problems as well um you know Southampton are a side full of confidence and you know they’re they’re not scared to you know play out from the back and and take risks and you know it’s credit to them they cause us as I said problems today and they have done before um but it was just about how you know we could deal with them problems as a team and the pressure that they’re putting on um you know making sure we we stand strong and and defend as well as we can and you know despite conceding one goal felt like you know we’ done that very well Tyler is that part of the learning process when you get put under so much pressure like that is it something you can really take something from yeah definitely I think playing at this club with these fans it gives you so much confidence and and especially when even when you’re down you feel like you’re going to come back in the game straight away because the energy that they give us and the energy that we all have as a team game and and it was it was a good it was a good fight from us and I think right to the end um people play in different positions so it was it was tough for us but it was um it was really good for us and we’re very thankful to the fans for the the energy to give us well done you threw to the last four but it’s Harvey who gets the carab cup player of the match will you do the honors Ty of course you will appreciate it thank you no worries that appreciate itk it was tough for them in that second half is is that partly to be expected had given the youngsters in their lineup in that second half yeah I think once that sort of momentum changes slightly obviously Trent going off and mallister a little bit later on Joe Gomez as well um and then it is a a big ask I think at 2 nil it looked as though it was very comfortable and and felt as though Liverpool were going to really stroll to an easy win but once that tie turns and it’s great experience for those younger players to have to deal with that you know different dynamic in the game and I think overall although they made hard work of it they be really pleased to to come away with that win there’s also a lot of credit that has to be given to Southampton even in defeat given recent events without a doubt and I think you know although they’ve lost this evening I think that second half performance will give them really good spirit going into the weekend’s game um full him away I believe um which which I think you know the way they defended tonight there was a few moments where you thought they’re puffing their chest a few of the players were sort of giving you know getting the fans sort of GED up a little bit those sorts of moments can’t be underestimated and like I said although they lost I think they can take a lot forward and a lot of belief and there were some good performances albe it Liverpool side was significantly weakened but they still had to play what was in front of them yeah as Izzy says that second half the chess were puffed out defending and they did put their bodies on the line there were still those errors in the first half that certainly led to the first goal in particular yeah again listen I think when you look at what’s happened recently it would have been very easy for them to go under and this was a little bit indica of what has been happening at Southampton and again there bner has to get a better contact on the ball Alex McCarthy then slips as well which makes it a simpler finish in the end for for Nunez yeah Nunes does well the Run he makes the run first and foremost debatable is he onside offside it’s tight there’s no V of course like you mentioned at halime but this this situation here I don’t think nunes’s first touch is brilliant and I think he’s lucky the way that it falls to him but he’s got the Endeavor he takes this touch here almost goes away from him but I think because McCarthy slipped here as he’s getting up it gives Nunes the time to actually then get on the end of that touch just see we can see that slip just there yeah it’s it’s pivotal in that moment because McCarthy because Nunes is coming at him centrally and McCarthy Central there’s actually less of the goal for Nunes to aim at but it gives him that slight angle Nunes to provide the finish in the bomb did you give Nunes some credit there I know I know you’re not a big fan of the first touch but bear in mind there is a school of thought that he’s a much better finisher when he doesn’t have time to think about it and he was clean that yeah I I certainly think so and I think his first touch actually takes it away from him you’d expect most forwards at you know in the in the Premier League to take a clean a first touch at this point I’m being really really picky here he’s he smashed the ball on the back of the net which is the most important thing but he isn’t going to miss that listen he’s needed a goal and he’s finishing hasn’t been great this season but if you want an opportunity to get yourself going he exactly it he needed it uh and the second goal I mean the buildup is great here it is and it’s it’s all about jav Elliott’s movement for me mallister his Midfield partner dress wide he’s bottom of the screen and javelli it just takes him a sort of central number 10 position but it’s his movement we’ll probably see it on the second angle finish is excellent takes a small deflection off Manning but we can just watch here highlighted in the top of the screen he goes into the space to then step out of the space which actually gives him that half a yard to then go and take the first touch and fire across uh Alex McCarthy but you can see it here even better Defenders are in a bit of a Twist they don’t know how to Mark him and the way that his movement first touch with his left foot right foot finish that that’s the key for me in terms of putting the ball exactly where you want to have it to get that next touch which is going to be your finish orbe it on his right side but the way he just cushions it takes the weight out of the ball but puts it in front of him yes gets a deflection on the way through but really lovely finished when when you look at Southampton so many times this season and I know they’ve been criticized defensively but you look at their possession stats or chances created stats they’re not in the bottom half of the Premier League you know they’re top off but they can’t score now if Cameron Archer Cameron Archer could do this a little bit more in the Premier League then who knows yeah listen it’s a brilliant first of all intent to go and be positive and get himself a minute he cuts onto that right foot again for those of us who’ve seen him in the championship is what he has done and he’s so sharp and again for me here there’s only one thing on his mind which is what I really loved brilliant finish from that angle Liverpool defending has to be better though yeah I mean the theover you got to cover that space you can see from his body language he checks here onto his right foot it’s Morton who’s covering and I think he just over covers a little bit and gives Cameron Archer the chance to sort of shape that and what finish and then three minutes later he had another chance which brought a good save from K Keller yeah fantastic reaction sa just felt like the whole mood at St Mary’s had changed I think Southampton players felt certainly a lot more belief than they had done in in the rest of the game had a really good period and unlucky there obviously with that first one this one’s a great great block there fantastic defending to make sure he gets across and there was a real time in that game where you did feel that Southampton were going to get themselves back in it and and draw themselves level but this is a great save in a ballpark of Emmy Martinez Saves by the way off the back of the weekend that’s average I’m really Jing that’s brilliant that’s brilliant that’s a brilliant instinctive saving I don’t think there was any more that Archer could have done I think he’s really clever with the way most look average compared to the weekend Southampton do I would imagine we haven’t heard from them yet feel grieved at this it probably wasn’t a penalty it’s a foul absolutely and a free kick a a red card yeah I mean the minute Quan allows this SC to bounce he’s bang in trouble you know Fernandez is getting the other side of him and at first from behind you may feel the ball’s not going to go all the way um is going to bounce through to keler but when you look at it from the other angle I think that’s the thing that for me will see it better here look H’s got to get to the pitch of the ball and just get something on it doesn’t now he’s over Fernandez drags him down look where that ball stops there Kell is not going to get there Fernandez would be the one getting onto that and for me it’s a it’s a really poor decision yeah it’s a it’s the wrong decision should have been sent off and um yeah it wasn’t in it wasn’t a penalty but I really like the run from Fernandez the Endeavor and I think that’s what we’re talking about with Southampton that kind of desire in the last minute to try and get back in the game um they can definitely take that through into into the well that’s it isn’t it now okay this is how we’ve we’ve done it a bit against a slightly change Liverpool side but to Har some of that fight and desire which most definitely wasn’t there on Sunday when they were beaten by Tottenham no it wasn’t but then I go back to the point they got against Brighton in the Premier League a few weeks ago um and I thought the aggression was at its best I’ve seen from Southampton this season they got a point from it but I wouldn’t say they were like at those levels of aggression tonight but I think the Endeavor and and you could sort of feel it from the players in terms of they wanted it they really wanted to improve and they they took a lot of Pride Howard Bellis you know celebrating clearances off the line you know I think that’s sort of mentality is what they need to harness moving forward uh three of the four quarterfinals have taken placea and oh here we go the good news is our rord gives you insurance free bets and big odds boost so hour or so as well we will of course get reaction from St Mary’s on what was fellas quite hard work wasn’t it we were a bit tense towards the end there Jason I think you’re right and breathe I think is is the right phrase We yeah I think after giving ourselves a really good platform at 2-0 and being in control of the ball and the game dictating the tempo um they made a lot more hard work of it in the second half give credit Southampton they had to go and and I don’t think the changes really help Liverpool I think they become a very much disjointed give away possession far too easily um players were moving around positions which which is always you’ve always got to be careful of that I think when you make so many changes I think they’ve done all right with so many changes in the first half but then the subs came on different positions they just lost their way and then um on and then they got away with it they got away with it by the skin of the teeth they did with some perhaps officiating that maybe for a change when famous we’ll get to that but I think goals change games don’t they NE and that goal for sampton it didn’t half inject life into them and the fans yeah I mean we’ve been in that situation 2N it felt comfortable Liverpool were by far the better side you just knew that if they were to get the next goal the crowd would get back involved the plays would start to get up for it and they’d have a go and they did you know they came from nowhere the goal that got them back into the game and all of a sudden the fans who’ve been absolutely so frustrated so down all season they thought okay we’re having to go you know I’ve actually enjoyed watching Southampton tonight the goalkeeper kicking it long the cheering that rather than trying to play out from the back so there was a bit of a reaction in that sense and they got involved they had a game they made it difficult for us couple of nervy moments I think ker deserves a mention on sort of the hour mark it’s 2-1 makes a big save a minute later Quanza makes a big block if it goes 22 then you start thinking could maybe Southampton have gone and won it didn’t create a lot second half think of K’s big chance that would have put the game to bed but they always stayed in the game Southampton you thinking they might get one more moment and it came later on that sort of 902nd 93rd minute when V would probably still be looking at it now because we’ve got used to that thankfully no V which helped the game yeah but it could have had a big part to play in that incident I mean you played a number of positions I don’t know how often they switched you around within games from Midfield to fullback or whatever it might have been but obviously in Tyler Morton’s case that’s what happened tonight Endo started at Senter half and played some of the time in the middle of the park is that difficult for players within the 90 minutes if it’s not your most natural position I mean Trent you look at Trent he started off as a center midfielder went to the right so when he drifts into that Midfield area he feels comfortable I was the same you know I played in Midfield for Bolton came to Liverpool played right back more of a wing back position but then got comfortable with that so if I had to go into Midfield it always felt comfortable I don’t think Tyler’s plays right back I don’t think he’s ever played it um in the sense of that’s his position and he’s made it his own he’s he’s aent Midfield so to go out on that right hand side was was obviously alien to him and I think he struggled a little bit and plus ker on the right hand side they took him you know a large part of that second half to actually implement or put himself about in the game it was only the last 10 minutes he kind of came alive and he struggled really which is understandable he’s been out for a while and you know I just to touch on your point the second half I think it come a bit of a shock for Liverpool at Southampton when against the philosophy really they made it more physical um I don’t know whether the referee sorry the manager rers has made a point of that at half time by saying to his players listen they got a few kids on the pitch let’s win them second board let’s they’re in a game let’s be a little bit physical with them let’s leave a little bit on them we might get a bit of a just reward for it and they did and they did and you know it was think it was a it was a long 45 minutes or 50 minutes that second half wasn’t it be players for Liverpool coming off knowing they been in a battle Yeah I imagine though as long as you come out on the right side of it it’s a good feeling isn’t it it’s a relief but it’s also like okay we’ve got through that storm I think the massive positive is we’ve got and you think about the key players who’ve not been involved tonight you know you look at goalkeeper not played tonight van’s not played salah’s not played the hasn’t played so there’s going to be a little bit of freshness of a big game at the weekend so the lads have done great and it’s difficult because some of the lads who’ve played tonight they haven’t got that Rhythm they haven’t got that sort of consistency in the performance so so it’s harder to get going and uh and they did extremely well to get through it’s never going to be easy even at 2 now you’re thinking there’s going to be some kind of a reaction you felt he needed yeah just because and also there was a lot of udes tonight when first time the manager not been on the touch line to try and organize he’s got his assistance but he’s up in the stands lots of players either starting the first game in Harvey Elliott’s case looking for a change one of the two players playing in different positions K are coming back there was a lot of new things or changes tonight from what Liverpool have got into the groove of doing yeah and you know for as much as you’re on the training ground you know not playing football matches which which a lot of these players is don’t in that first team it’s very difficult to understand the strategy the philosophy the tempo the fluidity of the way they play I mean you look at the first team now I mentioned it before he’s very consistent with that first team selection and they’ve all got up to speed quite quick and at times they play some really nice stuff and you can say exactly how the manager wants to play but tonight you know it was 11 players that were basically throwing in together to say right let’s have a look here and let’s see how we play and at times in the first half it just looked like we watching the first team it patient they were picking the opportunities to go along they they were right at it and they like I said they got the reward with with two really good goals but then second half they just lose their way a little bit and like I mentioned I think that’s partly down to Southampton changing their tactics a little bit being a bit more physical but you know Liverpool with a with a lot of new players and Subs coming on it kind of was a disjointed second half I’m playing out of position as well mentioned about Tyler play right back Ender great at the half sem has been out for a while he comes back into at left full back so think of three the back four there’ not a lot of ofam positions starts Central ends up left and there was quite a lot of lot of changes so to get through that and you’re just hoping there’s no injuries there’s no kind of setbacks before what would be a big game at the weekend against Spurs I think Spurs playing tomorrow’s a boo you think about that and what team does he pick with suay in mind and so on can he afford to we made eight changes I don’t think Spurs are making eight changes on that one I think an’s put himself under pressure and beginning of the Season by we will win a trophy he’s now got to the quart fin stage it’s kind of like you can smell it a little bit we mentioned with Liverpool didn’t we top of the show you know you get to that quarterfinal you can see Wembley a little bit can’t you he’s going to want to win that game there’s usually a championship team left is it but Amarin obviously he wants to win something to get the fans on side to get you know his team you moving in the right direction he’ll want it as well that’s a big game tomorrow nice to be in the semifinals watching on with interest is it let’s us promised bring in our three-man fan panel to get their first thoughts Dan Morgan let’s start with you you as tense and nervous as the rest of us I think when you get to that level of uh Liverpool Squad players on the pitch come the end of the game if the game gets away from you there’s a little just a little bit of a lack of control then you running the ga a little bit I think so you know I think it was inevitable especially when they made a few Subs as well that they’d have a go I think the game in loads of ways is probably encapsulated by JW you know he has probably the game he would have wanted for the best part of an hour just over and then you know there’s that goal and and all of a sudden you look around a pitch and there’s not a there’s not a ton of adults about in terms of Liverpool’s first teamers that You’ usually associate so yeah look I think again we seeing this season that to finding ways to to manage games to play out games it felt like Enzo was single-handedly trying to run the clock down from about 70 to be honest um so it’s another good sign for us it’s you know it’s it’s three games away from trophy so I think it’s good the players got minutes and I think for the collective the squad who Trav down there it’s great for unless we forget the kids won this competition for Liverpool last season so the kids can be more than all right Jose Orosco from Costa Rica how did it look from over there well I believe it was a really good game Liverpool was the better team and also another important thing I believe it was the perfect game to start the youngsters and uh many players that haven’t had many minutes um overall the arest plan was I believe it was good we go through the the next round and also we have no uh no injuries no suspensions I believe so I think we’re good then Williams if I can come to you know you obviously as part of your following of the team and doing of your job you look at the the data the maps and the touch Maps will be a bit confusing tonight W with players playing all over the shot yeah it was it was a mad one wasn’t it I think um formation wise you’re dealing in telephone nums I think for this one um you know players just drifting everywhere and iose end though you want to get all ttic a little bit the I think and was a bit of false was you know players just rotate different positions I think we start with har on flanks and then and then move them inside the only swap over a little bague in addition to a lot of second things could do a little bit experimental form probably nice way work so I think that has to come with goals if you wear a number nine for Liverpool at the end of the day know just has to be B up with goals he’ll be tired after that tonight I’m not sure he’ll he’ll be in the side Sunday from the beginning I think he’s put a lot of running in there I think there’s there’s probably a few minutes more in his legs than maybe they would have liked but he’s done a job for the team and and there’ll be games for him again and you know he’s just got to hope that he keeps keeps find his way in front of goal and just keeps being patient because you’re not get a ton of chances in that n position at the minut for Liverpool you know chances are coming from the wi forwards a lot of the time so it’s proven again tonight the important thing for darwi got a chance and he’s Tak well give us a view from if not South America Central America The View bang in trouble uh well we actually have a lot of faith in Darwin the ball’s not going to go the a lot of people ising because he often misses a lot of chances but he also you have to also look at the the whole game from him right meaning his movements and uh how he moves through spaces and how he creates chances as well so it’s very important uh that part of the game as well not only scoring goals and I believe he will be scoring a lot of goals in the future no no question about it I think that’s what we’re talking about with we got one tonight which is which is good get back definitely take that do you think you can be a team player or does a striker slightly Chang but to harness some of that no I I think playing for the team like Liverpool I think you’ve got to offer a certain degree of output the things like that theil was kind of all forward go the least so you know you can I don’t say you can carry players like that players like that provid around I think maybe off a little bit less in terms of his all game compared to a player like impr on the defensive end I think he connect Midfield a bit better
