Hello everybody welcome back to circling Seattle sports for another edition of Mariner Mondays here with myself and Britney um two of the folks two of the I don’t know two or three folks who contribute to our Mariners writing we are back after a quiet winter meetings which I don’t think either of us are surprised um you know none of us are surprised about that I don’t think um all we’ve got a few main topics to discuss here you know with the lack of a move happening at the winter meetings um there’s some continued Buzz around the potential of a Louise Castillo trade the Mariners have reportedly listed uh Christian Walker as their top uh offseason um you know priority or or top player on their wish list this off season uh they’re really are seemingly going after Roki Sasaki or at least going to put a good push in uh to acquire the young right-hander and then the Mariners got a good bit of luck with the number three overall pick in this upcoming draft um despite really being pegged to be in the middle of that draft so we’ll go uh by order there uh with the lack of a move at the winter meetings I don’t think either of us were surprised about that um I think you said it Brit that we were probably just going to look at a lot of smoke uh and we kind of I mean we got like medium smoke we didn’t even get a lot you know I think it was the first or second day of those meetings that Jerry depoto said we’re not in the red zone or any sort of deal I was like oh so you’re going to we’re just aware that nothing’s happening or likely nothing will happen at all this week so um but the main main sort of thing that I want to talk about with this uh with the winter meetings coming and going um is is the guy that really has been in the center of all the rumors for the Mariners is Luis Castillo we talked about him last week uh and the potential of him with Boston it seems like Boston’s still interested in him so um uh the Mayers have also checked in with him about the potential of waving his no trade clause because I do believe it’s a full no trade clause so if Seattle’s you know front office is able to conjure up some sort of of swap that they’d be happy with they need to you know get his approval on it regardless of that so um Brit I’ll let you kind of take lead here um and what you’re thinking about because I know there’s a few teams that have checked in on him that we didn’t originally speak of um just you know what’s your thinking about you know what we heard about Lis this past week and um maybe who fits the best you know as a trade partner I know we’re again uh kind of pigeon hold into what this team needs um and what teams are kind of willing to offer yeah I think um the any potential for a Cubs trade is probably flown um at this point given the moves that they’ve made they’ve been busy um which must be nice uh they did did it come out I believe it was Ken rosenal let me make sure I get that correct yes Ken rosenal came out uh last night or uh I should say Saturday evening and said that the Mets and Orioles have also checked in on Castillo so those are two teams uh the Orioles don’t surprise me the Mets maybe surprise me a little bit that they’ve checked in on Castillo so that um that’s interesting names that come to mind Ryan Mount Castle um with the Oro possibly I I don’t know that you’d be looking at um taking a chance on someone like Kobe Mayo although I do feel pretty confident that he’s going to be a pretty uh good big Leaguer I I think they really are as they should be uh looking and wanting Big League Talent right now so um Ryan oarn is another interesting name there um and they’re the Orioles infield is just kind of crowded with how much talent they have coming through their system through their farm system so um that could be interesting I I I hesitate with so many of the Luis castio rumors and everything because unless we start to hear really legitimate reports from the likes of Adam Jude or Ryan divish or Asen I have to remember uh that every every writer that’s kind kind of come out and reported on this and said you know like someone said Castillo trade was imminent uh like it’s happening no doubt and they’re all getting fed information from people with you know their own motives and from their own markets um so maybe Boston’s trying to spin something maybe Chicago is trying to spin something so I there’s certainly smoke around it I don’t know how much stock I put into any of those rumors um until we really start to get a little bit more um locally till we start to hear from from our local folks yeah and I I like that you mentioned that because I remember uh run it’s different sport but it’s the same sort of message that you’re putting out um around the NFL trade deadline I think it was in rap report was like there’s nothing on DK metf because there were smoke about DK met Caff and uh as much as I might disagree with some of his baseball thoughts Greg Bell was like there was never any smoke you know he was like read local I’m like yeah you know I I will wait to hear from these guys first I know there’s only a few instances where the the local guys here don’t have it first or or know something about it so yeah yeah I mean you you look at the teams that are are interested in him you know it’s like with Boston you know initially going first for a a a you know a straight one-on-one for woo or Miller for Cassis I mean even then I don’t know if I’m happy with that truthfully knowing how good those two young guys are and you know how good they can be which is REM I mean you say that and they still had incredible seasons in 24 right um I just wouldn’t like I just wouldn’t accept any like as soon as those guys are mentioned in a trade I’m probably hanging up um but to get back to Louise I only reference that because of Boston like you know I I’m not taking a Castillo classes one for one I don’t think that’s representative I know we talked about that last week but I want to reiterate that um Boston fans somewhere are just pulling their hair out at you saying that um but um you know like any friendship I had with them after tweeting about uh George Kirby’s knuckle ball and and you know how much the tribute was great I guess I’ve lost that good faith there but you know so it’s like there’s Limited there unless Boston feels the pressure which could be a thing you know if we wait this out because of the deals that you know Max freed signed um you know Castillo’s I saw Boston fans like oh Castillo’s contract is bad I’m like are you seeing the other contracts that are taking place like wake up a little bit you know I don’t know I know their hashtag was dirty water for a while have you been drinking the dirty water I you know but anyway but yeah the Oreos are interesting because same thing with them I don’t think there’s a a guy that they have that you could One V one you know a one for one right I think if you’re going to get a Mayo like are you spinning the because again you want proven Big League Talent right like this isn’t the sort of situation where you’re selling off your aging your aging veterans you know to to look good in a couple years if you’re the Mariners you want to win now and take advantage of this rotation as much as you can or if you trade Castillo what’s the other four guys in your rotation and then probably an Emerson right like we talked about last week um but I I think I I still have those two teams over the Mets because I know I think in the beginning of the off season there was stuff it was like oh give them like Brit batty and Jeff mcneel um as someone who has learned more about the Mets because of someone in my life um no no for to even both of those guys you would have to do both of those guys in addition to a a established guy and you know again we can go through the Mets roster and I don’t think the guys that would make this deal worth it the Mets want to you know they they just obviously dropped a mega bag that happened after we finished last week’s recording on Juan stto like they’re obviously trying to just get better I think that’s all in the uh pitching Department right now but um I I don’t know what the Mets would give you right because I know they do have aunia who is like I think their top Prospect um and he had a cup of coffee last year but again yeah chances are probably pretty high he’s gonna be a a stablished good big leager but you are still taking a chance there and there’s no there’s no uh indication that he’s ready well and then in that regard if you bring him in like and and and I’m sure he’s not necessarily going to be ready to be your your your opening day starter then it’s like why don’t we just wait you know for Cole Young at this point like sure right you know so I’d put the meds lower on there unless they decide that we really want to you know uh I always loved messing around on Madden with the trades it’s like okay it’s like it shows you red we’re not really interested at all yellow we’re like okay we’re thinking about then green it’s like all right it’s good I don’t know you know the the Mets are going to do something they really need to put it in the green like you can’t say yes anything it’s just kind of like oh this is kind of fine you know and then I know the Yankees uh there’s been stuff on the Yankees I don’t know if Rosenthal had it I don’t think it was Rosenthal but I guess you know they’re the Yankees have been listed as a team who could look at him after the Mariners out bid um the Yankees for him earlier uh I just don’t know if a trade happens between those teams truthfully um so I don’t know it just feels like a lot of um you know fun routes and then hitting an immediate dead end you know I just don’t know where Seattle goes with this you know I I think they’d be happy if we get to opening day and 58 still on your roster um but then it gets to the other things about how how do you get better if uh you don’t have much uh much allowance from you know Mommy and Daddy to play with uh you need to get better and that kind of brings me to Christian Walker unless you want to touch any more on on La Pedra uh no yeah let’s talk Christian Walker that’s so interesting so yeah um over the winter ings again it was a lot of nothing it was a lot of fluff on on the Rock um and then Christian Walker was listed as uh at the top of the Mariners I’m sorry I need these back the top of the Mariners um wish list for the off season as I told Brett you know before we started this you know I can wish for my hair back that doesn’t matter you know if there’s no action behind it if I don’t go to Turkey to get a transplant which I don’t plan on doing um I I just you know I’m like many other who have followed this franchise in in a myriad of ways I know divish put out a really uh honest tweet about it during the winter meetings you know we’re all tired of hearing interest you know it’s I think there was a meme from the Red Sox fans too that was like um had interest hang the banner you know um because even in this report from the times it’s Walker’s interest in the Mariners is not known um you know obviously with Christian Walker a guy who has told me his Ops hasn’t gotone below I think you said 800 for some time he’s been a gold Glover the last three years uh he got MVP votes in the 23 season uh you know the Yankees have a hole at first base the Nationals are fascinating you know and I’m sure a bunch of other teams will look at him the Mets might look at him if they don’t bring back Pete Alonzo you know so you’re you’re going to be competing with the big boys for this and you don’t have big boy money um to look at tax on top of Big Boy money there’s you know yeah you know and then even if you do sign him considering that it’s it’s been reported on on multiple occasions by you know you talk about I think my big big four uh I know passon hasn’t but we’re going to throw big four for the reporters I trust and Jude divish Kramer and passen you know those three in the like local column have all said it’s like your allowance is 15 to 20 million that guy is going to command the higher end of that and even if you can land it that’s some God’s Grace Christian Walker has a dream he needs to be in Northwest green and a city connect Jersey like uh then that’s your hold that’s all of it though like you got given a 20 and you spent the 20 so I don’t know besides my Doom and Gloom uh what are your if if we’re playing in a fantasy world and and you know you’re our legitimate Suitor what what excites you about a Christian Walker in his fit in Seattle yeah if the Mariners somehow stumbled into money um found it tomorrow or whatever um I would it kind he kind of flew under the radar for me and that’s is someone who has paid attention to the Diamond Backs um and kind of actively cheered I’ve always known that he is a good ball player um you know four war in 22 and 23 three War last year the conversation around him has kind of been like he’s getting older you know he’s what 33 years old and um he certainly is and then also you look at his Savant page and he’s still hitting the ball real hard um his exit velocity last year in 2024 um was in the top 9% of Major League Baseball so um there’s there aren’t ation that he is actively slowing down sometimes we look at these guys at 33 especially first basem it seems and um and they’re starting to slow down right around this time he would certainly in my mind be worth a three-year deal you know it um it would probably have to be more than 20 million a a year average just to play in Seattle but I I just I that would be an awesome pickup I would love CHR Walker for the Mariners I I think that would uh add some pop this team just needs some pop they outside of Julio they they don’t have a whole lot of it you know Randy can run into one um here and there and you’ve got fulio and Cal and they just need someone that can do consistent damage so I I like it I uh also can acknowledge it feels like we are dreaming yeah this this is all very much uh you know yeah like he said if we run into some money um you know hoping hoping that the leash gets a little you know uh uh looser I think that’s right yeah longer yeah longer leash I I just don’t see that happening but I don’t know maybe maybe for office is hey you see this guy it’s got three gold gloves you know he he can he’s got power well okay sure you know throw throw some more on there you know and Chance’s been doing pretty well you know throw it on there um yeah I don’t know it’s it’s fun to look at and I mean he uh although chances are low on him anyway like chances are better on him than Then Pete Alonzo in the free agent Market you know I mean well that’s the thing with interesting with Pete is I saw a report um nationally that his his Market’s like a non-existent right now which is pretty fascinating um I mean for a guy who has the power you know had a great playoff run um yeah I just find that weird and you know maybe now since that you know the the Yankees have lost out on um he lost out on Juan stto maybe they well I mean they just signed Max freed I mean I wouldn’t doubt they’d go and look at Pete I don’t know you know so I I I put Christian Walker as more likely anyway and probably someone who’ be better there anyway I know um Perry Hill would salivate at having a three-time gold Glover oh God that would be his Heaven you know though um yeah and I mean that’s kind of you know again the extent of it you know something that slightly goes back to the trade market is um you know when when Jerry met with um well he on MB Network and then I don’t know if there was like a full strum or what uh during the winter meetings he and I know you talked about this online um talked about you know having some of the the prospects like Cole Young and Ben Williamson you know as guys that could help the Mariners uh talking about their farm system um we talked about this last week I know that the teams that you know have the veteran infielders at the Mariners want aren’t really looking for uh prospects but I don’t know you know you do have some of that t well and then um you know the the getting that number three overall pick certainly helps ease some of the sting um if you do trade away some of those guys you know and so maybe we can link that and we’ll put Roki at the back um here um because if you if you do swing a trade and you know ideally you’re your Litney of riches of of middle in well of position player uh prospects you know gets put to use again you can you can feel comfortable and then this gives us because you know uh neither of uh Britany and I are really too super draft heavy you know in that regards um I I think our biggest question was if they go back to a pitching heavy draft like they did this past year after being very position player oriented you know for for some amount of time um or if you do go back to the position players and um I think it very well could be you know it maybe obviously you know the farm system is very unique and things can change and you’ve got the international signings so you know there’s all that um and maybe you’re happy with um mangelo I believe it Sloan was the other kid early on and you know maybe you’re happy with that you go back uh and certainly if you do trade from that you would go back uh do you see any I think that makes that obvious if you do trade you know one of the your top guys you know it’s like like all right let’s let’s load the deck again right any thought on that yeah they’d probably look at I i’ guess um maybe a college bat um they did like the high school bats it it I kind of have gone from thinking of um the prospects in a trade manner um to looking at them in a when are they going to be big league ready Manor because it’s really starting to feel like uh the the market and everything for whatever reasons um I’m sure there will be many um that that’s it it’s not going to be in the Mariners favor and I again there should not be a single Prospect off limits um as much as I love and adore Ben Williamson and want to see him play Third Base in a Mariners Jersey someday um and think he would be a fantastic uh Big League third baseman there really shouldn’t be anyone um off limits I don’t know that there’s a legit trade partner at this time um to get you what you’re looking for so when is Cole Young going to be ready is now my question because at the end of the year I think we heard through someone local that it was looking like he wasn’t going to be ready um maybe at the end of the 2025 season I think was the speculation and now we heard last week um that Cole Young is ready to go uh was that said for different intentions is he really ready we don’t know um are they trying to sell him maybe probably but there’s conversation around you know Ryan Bliss keeps coming up and Tyler laer came up again another guy that we haven’t talked a lot about and what he can potentially contribute um so my I’ve I’ve kind of shifted the way I’ve been looking at those guys from you know potential trade partners and matches and um who would be interested to in those guys to all right when can they help the big league roster are they there yet because I um while it shouldn’t be that you have Ryan Bliss and Leo revos on your starting starting nine um it’s looking like that could be a very realistic possibility in 2025 yeah and as as disappointing as it is to say if you get you know one of your three which is wild right one of your your three that even I think it’s funny because depoto came out and said it’s like we are looking at first base second base Third Base like if you get one of those three if you get a Christian Walker um you know then you you know call it good which is again wild to think about um you know that almost feels like begrudging all right we’ll take it you know cuz I mean this is a situation that we’re in right it’s like so much of the time there’s argument online about the situation and I understand that not the Jersey Shore I understand that and it’s certainly not great to have to talk about because we would love to be able to sit here and say all right so I Christian Walker yeah um you know well even I don’t know who is available on the third base market right now I mean free agent wise like this is this we’re operating like we have money right and then it’s like oh because I don’t think about it that much because I think you know I think in the mindset of I can sign one I can get one of the the toys that I want you know you can get one and you’re probably gonna have to try and get out of one of the Mitch’s contract in order to get one and be comfortable it and so at what point you know do do cuz I think it really would be and maybe we can look at this even further next week you know since it’ll probably be slower uh really relatively slow you know for the next few weeks unfortunately um at what point do you consider the Avenues to get rid of rid of 17 because you know I don’t think you can get into 2025 with Mitch hanar and your roster unfort or you should you know which is unfortunate again great guy you know had some great moments here but it’s just you know I think everyone saw it the Fielding looked rough at the end of the year his hitting was rough relatively all year um you know again great guy all that whatever but yeah I can I’m somewhat again this is minimally okay with having a Garver there only because right now it seems like he’s your backup catch her and they haven’t talked at all about adding a backup back stop there’s been no conversation about it and I’m like all right so we’re going in with the thought that hey we saw him increase his workload to just catching George to catching everybody like we we’re going to call it good and it sounds like they are believing in a bounceback I know the quote was more on both mitches 17 no we’re done we have to move yeah you know Mitch Garver I can I am a little more okay with that it’s not a lot but you know again if if you’re looking at Garver or hanar which one are you on paper you know and I’m in a roster and not understanding the context which one are you taking I’m taking Garver unfortunately again MCH great guy We’ve joked about being bald together you know we’ve got to move so Garver is um is so interesting for me um there’s conversation around like well he can’t be your backup catcher why not he’s super serviceable back there um he assuming he can stay healthy that’s really your biggest concern is Health um yes it is a very expensive backup catcher yeah we’ll throw you that but at least you can get some value out of him in that way getting Cal hopefully more days off would be great this year um yeah and and then if you do move him um which I wouldn’t certainly be opposed to you got to have a better backup catcher plan than a sebbi zala type and that can certainly be a a conversation for maybe another day um because I have lots of thoughts and feelings around that but um yeah they they need to they need to find ways to protect Cal better because then at that point again we maybe we we’ll we’ll P the full conversation to another week but it’s like you burn you you accept this year of Garver you go through the Garver and it’s like okay is is our forward ready to go like are you is is I think you’re supposed to start this upcoming season at Triple A Tacoma so it’s like I don’t know I don’t know how you know we’ll see how he does in PCL pitching but anyway um yeah I don’t know the the the third overall pick’s great it’s nice that the you know they moved up from being projected to be number number 15th in this upcoming draft who somehow stumbling blindly into the number three overall spot you know the highest in the you know Jerry depoto era um at least looking at some of the mocks here it is a few um College hitters you know there’s some college pitching but you talk about a college hitter uh the guy I actually saw in Mont Lake uh this past year aarat uh kind of plays up the middle of the infield who transferred from udub to Oregon State this this offseason as as udub went through a coaching change uh Jace lolet uh Texas A&M uh then it goes here some of your uh College pitchers Tyler brener Bren Remer sorry that’s not 2ns I can read I promise uh then Jamie Arnold is who I initially saw like when that first came out was the mock a lefty from Florida State what the fun one for me is looking at uh Xavier nans who is out of Mount Vernon here in the state of Washington which is very fun local kid so know the we love our local kids here he would know the pain around here um but yeah so that’s that’s kind of it I think it’s pretty straightforwards like if you’re able to you know offload some of the position players that you’ve essentially stockpiled in your Ro in your farm uh having them the three overall pick likely gives you the option to be able to stockpile back somewhat um and obviously gets you more more draft draft bonus money right big deal yeah definitely it’s yeah yeah it’s it’s huge they they really left out with that I Dan Wilson’s reaction was priceless that was good it’s still so funny to see these pictures of Dan Wilson doing these things after he was just a guy that was like doing the rude sport again I would run into the guy at the booth all the time super nice dude you know and one of his kids went to OD day I was an OD day kid I talked to him about that now he’s now I have to look at him in in in a pregame scrums it’s it’s very weird um any oh this is minor but I do want like since this is like a shorter show than last week I think we can touch on it um so last off season Scott service if you remember him don’t know if you remember him um Scotty service oh it’s funny to mention him because his Packers player see Green Bay fan that’s the first thing I thought of sorry Scott I need you to lose tonight yep um talked about the importance of going to um talk with Luis Castillo um in his home go fishing with him you know and that was I think that’s sort of important you know in any sport you want to be able to trust you know the coach you’re with vice versa you know and I think leveling with him in somewhere especially with you know not the the non-american born players you know to have that and you know that respect is big uh not quite it’s an American Born player but Dan Wilson did say he was going to go have dinner with Bryce Miller um this this offseason the Mariners contingent at the winter meetings went home Dan Wilson went to Texas uh God where’s Bri new is it new braon FS I remember he told me how to say it this past year um your guest is as good as mine new Bron FS yes it is new Bron I didn’t know if it was just Bron FS or I’m sorry he’s chronically on Twitter so I have to be careful um but I don’t just there’s not much you could say what are your thoughts on it but it I think it’s important you know it’s a guy that you know obviously had some some um and it’s not like Dan and Bryce are new obviously Dan had spent time previously with the Mariners you know being sort of a minor league you know uh you know just overseer essentially going around and you know he was a regular going around different uh parts of the organization so it’s not like he was brand new obviously it’s well documented how good of a relationship he has with Cal um you know just I I thought that was important to see I like seeing it as opposed to we get to Spring and oh I haven’t seen you since you know I’m not saying he has to go down the roster and go you know go to Miami where Julio’s training with these guys and go out and get a workout in you know which he might too he might um that’s a great thing about and why catchers make such good managers um what’s so important about the catching position is relationship building and it starts obvious viously with the pitchers the pitching staff and building good relationships with your pitching staff um and then it goes to the entire field everyone’s looking at you when you’re the catcher everyone’s faced towards you and good catchers build good strong relationships it’s so important and Dan Wilson certainly was one of those um he’s so incredibly respected not just in the Mariners organization but in the league he’s very very highly thought of um well respected and he’s a really good Rel relationship Builder we’ve heard that we have um seen it and so it’s it’s a great quality and it’s going to help him um I don’t think he needs to win over the clubhouse I I’m sure he’s already done that um but you’re continually always as a coach as a manager as a catcher you’re always building relationships constantly improving them um working on communication every single player in that Clubhouse needs something different um needs certain communication you know need thing needs things taught to them differently and I’m sure those are things he’s still kind of feeling out you know how do I approach a um JP Crawford when he’s in a slump versus how do I approach Julio um so I I know the whole the way that all went down I certainly um understand the the questions around why there was no interim tag I had the same questions I also feel very confident um with Dan in that position yeah I think you know with the manager spot you you listed some of the great things that they need to do but I think what was important was seeing manage that so many of the Great assistant you know different coaches were around you know it’s like I remember one of the big things was people were wondering if Perry Hill was going to be back is Pete Woodworth going to be back and then we get the announcement I’m like all right it’s essentially the same you had a few guys it’s like okay you know and there were some I think the optimists of of mariners Twitter were really happy um seeing what this staff did under Dan Wilson’s tutelage you know after he took over in such a short time and they’re like oh put that over a 62 game 162 Game season in playoff team like sure you know maybe but I don’t know I I like to feel the Optimus every once in a while but anyway yeah I mean you touched on it I just think it is important you know to to well I remember talking to a Louise about this after um Scott had mentioned the initial part when I got was at spring training for very minimal time last year uh I went to talk to Louis about it and Freddy yanos the great interpreter helped me with that um but it said it was important for him to you know his feet to be where my feet were I thought that was very interesting you know um that’s a cool way of putting it different different people different backgrounds these two pitchers but still like and something that I was thinking about when you were you know um you know referencing how important it was is a catcher like Scott was also a former catcher right um by the time he I had gotten there right it was obviously the last few years of his career time been doing this um you know he he talked about you know the Tendencies of these players that we’d seen for years he he did know them well and obviously I think this is Dan’s like first real opportunity to go and do that and like you said establish these relationships and how important that is so I’m I wonder if it we will get the Dan Wilson tour this offseason go and see a few guys cuz you know when you talk about him not really needing to win the room over I would agree with that just because like I like I think a lot through our photographers photos with some of these uh the the walk off over San Francisco right his first game like I can go through so many of the photos and I’ll probably put some of them in the write up of this where the players immediately go to him and they’re around him because they know it’s his first win the manager and you see his smile so big and there’s some photos where you can see him looking out into the T-Mobile Park crowd and trying to take it in so yeah I don’t think there’s a lot that he needs to do in that regard but I’m sure it certainly helps for him to as L you know have his feet where some of their feet are so I wanted to touch on that because it was like a tiny little detail shoved into the rest of this yeah yeah I don’t know matter you know so we’re talking about another pitcher here with Roki Sasaki obviously I think we touched on it last week um you know it’s it’s no secret and the Mariners have made it not a secret that they’re going to make some push uh for the Japanese right-hander um and so much of the push that I’ve read about is that you know it’s some of the the more obvious things right they develop the pitching you look at the four other guys in the rotation that aren’t Luis Castillo um they talked about need to get wood for this they talk about being relatively healthy um you know with their starting pitchers they talk about having Pete Woodworth and Trent blank back that’s something else that’s big you know we just talked about having the coaching staff back um you know yeah keeping them healthy talking about the pitching culture throughout the organization um but it’s interesting with Sasaki some of the things that have been talked about um you know from the guys coming over from the npb um the I’m sure you’ve seen some of the reports Brit he doesn’t necessarily um prioritize the top Market some saying that not having him in a Los Angeles or in New York or he he might prefer to do that to begin with and have a softer Landing so to say right and um uh there’s also the report that he won’t sign until mid January when the international signing uh pool bonus I think kicks in I think that’s what that is um you know so it’s it’s very interesting um because it’s also a different process than uh what yoshinobu Yamamoto had where he came in and he got that Mega deal he can’t earn that sort of contract nope puts him in the signing uh he puts him like every team can afford him which is interesting and it’s you know if you’re the Mariners that gives you uh you’re smiling at that uh the Mariners have 7.5 million in bonus pull money for 2025 which is tied for the most that any club has available which is nice um but the one thing that was the biggest to me was that icho is expected to uh be a part of that and they’re going to have him be like a centerpiece in this um Jerry depoto and I know we can only take so much from what Jerry says um said that when he was officially posted internally our feeling was that we were ready for it um I’ll look into it more here but what do you what do you think about this because the the guy this is going to be his agent um hasn’t met with him to discuss his priorities yet which I find fascinating I don’t know how much I believe that either you know that could be some agent speak there um I yeah I after we talked last week I went just to learn a little bit about him and it it is pretty fascinating his story you know I was thinking why is he coming over at such a young age um and the it sounds like the reasoning for him potentially looking at a smaller Market um is he’s had some trouble with the media in Japan and just really um being um I don’t know if it’s heavily criticized but um I think critiqued for wanting to come over at a young age uh it sounds like he’s gone through some pretty tough personal stuff uh losing family members that were were really hard for him um and made him want a change of scenery and um the media gave him a pretty hard time for wanting a change of scenery so uh thought it was interesting his agent mentioned the media um when he spoke at the winter meetings and um that that would be something he’s looking at um smaller market quote unquote softer Landing place um you know things that do scream Seattle and I think it’s great that they have icho involved that’s fantastic I we have also kind of heard this before um so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard a a pitch like this being put together I don’t know how realistic the odds are for the Mariners yeah but um I I liked what I heard from his agent um in their favor and whether or not he was just trying to stoke the fires a little bit we we can’t be sure but he certainly has a very fascinating story um and fascinating reasoning for coming over at a at a younger age um before he can really make those big bucks yeah and first of all you reference a different pitch and other I I remember other folks talking about how they remember hearing this sort of thing and you know it won’t I won’t get in trouble for this I don’t care I was told privately that with uh I think who the other guy you’re talking about with shohi is that he fully toured T-Mobile Park he wanted the sign here but the Mariners weren’t ready to let him pitch here which was very fascinating they didn’t want to let him do both uh at the time obviously I’m sure they feel stupid about that um and I’ve had that double checked a few times over the course of the last few years um which is a head scratcher to me but so it was a lot of this organization right um but yeah no I don’t know I’m I so much of the attention I think is to more of the certainty uh at least with this offseason in my mind it’s like you know I know what Luis Castillo has done I know that you know they’re open to talking to him right with this one and it’s even talked about in in um the Jude report here it’s like there’s this mystery around around saki uh wolf said that he hasn’t sat down fully to discuss what he prioritizes uh they plan on doing that um I said later this week so that’s already happened by now um he won’t sign till January 15th um but you know something thing that and I know I saw this also on a Mets account but what was listed um apparently he asked wolf questions about the weather [Music] which uh comfortability which is kind of an interesting that one I don’t know how you really quantify that one um and then pitching development and if you want to talk about pitching development I you know I saw it on the Mets thing cuz this Mets account was like oh we’re the best in doing that and I’m like I don’t know about you buddy but again the Mets have done a great job working with some of their pitchers that have signed there I mean Shan maniah had a great late season run after they tweaked some of his slot uh issues I believe it was seie sevie really had a bounce back too sevie yeah so you know um you know sure with working with some veteran guys yes we want to talk about the word development that’s you know and this guy’s 23 like you were saying so I mean he would kind of at least agewise slot in with with the two young younger Parts uh of of the rotation I don’t think they’d click like that friendship-wise but I think those are two guys that would make him feel pretty welcome everyone gets along with Bryce Miller though let’s yeah I’m sorry I’m just thinking of the interactions in the clubhouse now Bryce Miller’s gonna more props more props hold on hold on hold on gonna walk in and he’s like so so oh I used an f word again we got to work on your Bryce Miller impression what I don’t oh god I’ve been away from the ballpark for so long I forgot the things he would say he always did walk with he always did walk real funny though he’d walk he’d have the little the little Meander he would walk like that I’m not making that up it’s yeah it’s a real cowboy walk oh God but yeah no you want to talk about guys that would make him feel well and even like you look at the other you know George is still I don’t know what he looks like in the clubhouse like when we’re not allowed in there George is you know George Kirby and Brit and I kind of talked about this a little bit he did seem to be a little more relaxed and and maybe personable yeah throughout the course of the year whether that’s signing more autographs or what but Logan Gilbert I’m sure would do more than enough to make him feel welcome here so you talk about maybe that leans into the comfortability side uh but uh you know pitching development at least you know I think this is the best arguably the best situation Sasaki could pick from um yeah I don’t know I I think that’s like my Dark Horse and I would really love to see that that would be really cool you know we’ve been so lucky to talk about and cover great fishing the last few years and my main point and I guess we’ll wrap with that is I didn’t I don’t remember any smoke about the Mariners and Robbie Ray and that just kind of happened you know stuff just sort of happened so I don’t know I’m not going to count the Mariners out I know uh the report is industry sources consider the Mariners a long shot but again I didn’t hear I almost said it again um I didn’t hear anything about Robbie and the Mariners you know and and obviously that was it ended his Mariners tenure ended in a weird trade but I mean he was Workhorse in that year that he had so they always P their cards close to the chest they have historically um and I feel like every offseason or at least the last few offseasons we spend a lot of time talking about rumors and then a transaction happens that we didn’t even talk about or it wasn’t even on anyone’s radar so um I certainly would welcome that at this point because that would just mean a transaction record yes we would love to document I even have new new templates made Brit I have new templates for signings they’re going to sit there and collect dust I don’t want to use them for Natali FZ who they signed I guess to a minor league deal like I no no please so unless you’ve gotten anything else that’ll wrap up our second edition ever of uh of Mariner Mondays is we are here smack in the middle of the month of December looking forward to what the next few weeks have to bring for us hey Jerry depoto historically has done something uh on Christmas around Christmas either I think Thanksgiving Eve or Christmas Eve so I feel like we’re due for something yeah so um I don’t know what I’ll be doing on the 24th of December this year but I’ll I’ll probably have my laptop close by cuz I will just I don’t know he seems festive I guess I don’t I don’t know what it is with Jer um but yeah no and I mean in the meantime I’ll say for those um you know watching it’s like oh if they don’t have anything to talk about what are they going to do we have different thoughts uh of things we can talk about you know I know Britt mentioned the the the backup catcher position and what that may look like that’s something certainly something you know uh so much and one of my first thoughts of when I was going to propose this idea to Brit was you know you know the Mayers are looking at every other infield position but shortstop you know yeah what does JP Crawford’s 2025 look like what’s the successful 2025 look like for JP Crawford so on and so forth so we’ll look into that we’ll do more with this but I hope you’ve been enjoying it it’s been nice to talk about Mariners baseball um you know since there’s been not much of anything uh we’re in the offseason here so going to see you next time take care of yourselves be what out well em must said whatever I mean you can be whatever you want uh and do whatever you can to make today a great day hey Charles hey Jen hey how about the Zs oh I’m excited I know where are you going to watch all those away games though away games huh I was thinking to come in here since after all Ruff and Tumble is the home of circling Seattle sports I love that idea hope to see yall here hello there everybody Charles Hamer here with circling Seattle sports I’m joined by Jen Barnes of Ru and Tumble that we happen to be at right now Jim why don’t you talk to me a little bit about what we’re announcing today which is our partnership I’m so excited about this first of all I just want to say thank you um you know I think all of us here at Ru and Tumble are big fans of what you and your team at circling Seattle sports does um and so you know I know you know this but when you came to me with this idea it just seemed pretty natural um you know and it’s not just me I think a lot of people in the Sports community in Seattle also really respect you and your team so it’s exciting to kind of see these two things um melding together and we’re really excited to start implementing some of the things and then hopefully seeing you guys a little bit more often yeah and so with what Jen says about seeing us more often you know we’ we’ve got a few things in the works but you’ll see watch parties here we’d like to do a few different of our community drives which you’ll hear about here in a little bit um from now you know we got to make our announcements one at a time I can’t drop everything not everything at once but this has been a home for a lot of our team whether it’s myself uh our friend our photographer Liz is behind the camera Liz is here often so our team has kind of adopted this place kind of like our own since I saw you at our soft launch so you know it’s it’s been great to have that support um and you know in a lot of ways and part of the way part of the reason I wanted to do this was the Rough and Tumble embodies a lot of what circling Seattle sports wants to do obviously with women’s sports with the storm and the rain but just being you know having the game on every game on yep you know how much of that you know did you see a line kind of even before this idea was mentioned when I first met you I think it’s always felt like that I mean you and your team were here on opening night um and you’re you just feel like you’re part of the space so it felt like really natural um and the fact that you actually cover cover all the sports really makes your group stand out so you are you are always covering all the rain games all the storm games you have women’s softball you women’s basketball you women’s hockey we love it so all of those things and obviously passionate M fans passionate Hawks fans and half passionate Kraken and Sounders fans so really from our perspective those two things meshed really well so I mean you heard it from Jen herself but this will be our home for all of these events whether it’s you can’t make it to these games at home we’re always going to direct you to Rough and Tumble and obviously the games on the road as well all these I mean we’re talking about the rain they’ve got their schedule out finally but that will be this will be our home for that storm games on the road this is our home for all intents and purposes I love it and when I mentioned it to Jen when I first had this idea come up I had this idea come up wearing a pink wig yes ahead of Megan Rino’s final regular season home game for the rain this past year yeah um I told her it’s because I wanted this to feel genuine y I wanted a connection to feel genuine and it does so that’s what this is Ruff and Tumble is the home of circling Seattle sports and I’m so excited to finally announce this partnership I can’t wait [Music]
