all right welcome in everyone ug football live with JC Shelton here for instant reactions we do it every week uh that Georgia plays Georgia played UMass today in Athens 1245 kick it’s one of those kicks you’re like okay you know how are we going to show up we’re gonna show up laxa desle which my former head coach loved to say are we gonna show up like that team that just put a beat down on Tennessee in the same stadium the week prior Georgia showed up sleepwalking absolutely offensively not which is strange right because really all season a sluggish start or or maybe not executing on all cylinders has always been on the offense um the defense is you know traditionally talking about this season showed up very quickly on the money physical tackling while not perfect has been really good for Georgia and then you come into this game and UMass puts up 226 yards rushing and that was they almost topped Tennessee and that Tennessee had the best rushing offense in the SEC coming into that game last week put up 146 on the day right UMass almost topped out in the first stinking quarter um and it was so odd just to see Georgia missing tackles because I don’t think you know defensive line wise I mean gaps were being closed closed guys were flying up to make stops and then no wrap-ups um long rushes as well which something you really do not see from this Georgia defense let’s look at that because that stood out to me so UMass had six yards or sorry six plays of at least 10 plus yards rushing gains of 38 22 and 68 and it was throughout the game it wasn’t like Georgia showed up in the second half and just dominated now offensively did and they played better in the second half defensively but they were they were gash plays on the ground game all day and that was really really odd and it gives us something to talk about after playing a team like Mass because entering that game folks I mean that’s an exhibition game right the level of talent the disparity the coaching staff everything right we pay money for youas to come in rest the starters all right get some young guys in there get them some confidence see what they’re made of can they be in the right spots can they do the right things can we count on them later in the season and instead you know you had to keep Carson Beck in there longer than you wanted to you had to keep a lot of offensive lineman there longer than you wanted to defensive line took a hit early in the game Kristen Miller exits with a what what was pther broadcast a shoulder injury and I’m sure Kirby Smart is probably being asked about that um if he hasn’t already but you know he doesn’t really give info anyway after those press conferences we have to wait and see on Kristen Miller but you know georg’s defensive line has dealt with those injuries and you lose a key starter like that just having a career season red shirt sophomore one and a half sacks got four tackles for loss 20 plus stops good numbers for a d tackle you know you lose him and and it goes back to that situation where Georgia can you take hits all game from really good offensive lines now with you know one less body and a really important body at that so keep an eye out for Christen Miller um but yeah that’s that’s really the big thing for me because offensively you saw a lot of what worked for Georgia last week the downfield passing game was still there um Carson Beck had a really really good day I mean in Sanford Stadium he’s he’s Pretty stinking clutch 20 to 31 297 four touchdowns I think he had a streak of three straight drives with passing touchdowns uh rating 187 I mean it is you mess right opponent matters here uh but he made the right decision ision and didn’t turn the ball over which is huge and that’s what you’re looking for if you’re a Georgia fan especially is Carson Beck sticking taking care of the football now Nate Fraser Nate Fraser and I tweeted this he looks like the fastest player on the field with the ball in his hands now him and Aran Smith running side by side I think Arion gets him just because he has longer legs that’s track speed there but Nate as far as quickness and burst man and we’ve seen it all season right but this is kind of his feature game because Trevor UT’s out he got the start for the first time by Georgia TR freshman running back since Nicholas chub in two in 2014 21 attempts 136 yards three touchdowns 6.5 average beautiful that’s what you want to see um and he is getting more comfortable running behind those offensive line he’s getting more comfortable being in the right spot with Carson Beck back there being in pass protection um and that’s great for Georgia because they needed bodies and running back somebody who can play all Downs if needed right and that’s why they cash Jones in a lot there who caught a touchdown today in pass protection excuse me um receiving wise I will I love what lost and lucky did four Target four targets four catches long a 23 60 yards Oscar Delp touchdown that’s what three touchdowns for him and what um eight quarters of football after nine games basically with zero touchdowns they’re featuring him more tight ends are playing better um yeah it’s just if you come out of this game and you’re just thinking like man defensively what was that right you know Daniel Harris was having issues um the linebackers were getting caught just nowhere to be found on an inside run that went for 68 that’s just you don’t see that a lot and I think it it Garners the question in my mind about discipline and not playing down to your opponents which has been an issue this year you know Georgia we know they can get up for a big game like good grief last week Texas you know even Bama right Bama capitalized on early mistakes and then Georgia answered in a big way in the second half and they were up for that game playing like their lives depended on it they can do that in big games but when he gets to these games or even you know like a Kentucky an Auburn teams that are that demand respect just because they are SEC programs really talented players and Rivals at that at that at that point with auburn you got to get up for these games and I’m just I’m so surprised to see that performance by Georgia and that defense man um because the talent it doesn’t matter who’s in there necessarily against you Mass because that Talent Just Blue Chip guys all around for that Georgia defense now experience differs of course but you expect them to get the fundamental things right at least nine times out of 10 and it just wasn’t there today um does that bite Georgia maybe not I’m on a side with not because they can get up for these big games and that’s what you have moving forward now you think about tech that’s going to be a night atmosphere uh you have a coaching staff that has played in these games themselves in this rivalry um against a tech team who’s beaten Miami who got another win at the last second on Friday night um seven and four I mean in tech played Georgia close last year so I think they’re gonna be up for that game but it’s it’s odd it’s odd because culturally in George has built that standard to where they just domination on a week- toe basis um and that’s just not the case this year I don’t think why who knows um but at least you can bounce on the fact that George is gonna be playing in huge games the rest of the season hopefully in an SEC Championship which George needs some help there looks like Bama unless they they lose to Oklahoma or Auburn in the next couple weeks um and then the playoff and speaking of playoff and this is why I added this into our instant reactions because good grief Old Miss Old Miss the rebels we were we were bamboo bamboozled that’s a hard word thinking that Old Miss was no longer Old Miss and after the biggest program win in Old Miss history against Georgia you lose to an unranked struggling SEC team that’s played been playing better okay we’ll give him that but still a team that got blown out by Texas just a couple weeks prior and you blow it to them of all people that’s your cfp chances that’s where it ends and that’s got to be just an absolute gut punch for Old Miss fans um because I was really looking forward to seeing Lane kein dice up defenses in the playoff um was really looking forward to that maybe even a possible rematch with Georgia a little a little avenge situation for the Bulldogs not going to happen now so with Old Miss going out that’s a big move secondly Indiana and we all kind of you know we were talked into thinking that Indiana could really you know make it competitive with Ohio State the line went down to like 10 points this morning I was I was keeping tabs on that I was really interested on what Vegas was going to do ahead of kickoff goes down to 10 points you know Indiana scores on the opening possession had that momentum you know on the road and it’s and that’s what hey that’s what UMass did well today was on the road run the stinking Rock if you can if you have some success great stick with it right be as physical as possible try to catch that home team sleeping a little bit and it’s a 1245 kick so it’s not hard to do from that aspect get up early keep the ball out of the opposing offense’s hands and that’s that’s what it felt like Indiana was going to do it’s what mumas did earlier today and then Ohio State just starts imposing their will right that that Talent upfront just kind of takes over um Indiana special teams were horrible that’s just the easy way to put it horrible uh big mistakes there that just gave Ohio State points they score they didn’t find the end zone again until the late in the fourth quarter and at at that point it felt like oh we’re going to score so when the playoff committee is looking at it they can justify keeping Indiana the top 12 because it was just a you know 15-point loss or such but then Ohio State put another one on the board and boom that’s a 23o loss for a previously undefeated Indiana who’s best win whose best win and it’s it’s their best win because it’s the only win they have against a team with a winning record in Washington who’s six and five and in a rebuilding mode at your best win and before we get into where we think people are going to land here’s my question and I’m thinking about this Indiana you know when like when the playoff reaction show comes out on Tuesday I’ll be watching for you know those Graphics they show best wins and best you know bad loss good loss what are they going to do with that Ohio State loss is it a bad loss because it is a bad loss it absolutely is but if you’re already putting Indiana at number five without having to beat anybody and then they play the number two team in the country on the road and lose by 23 I feel like the committee is just going to justify that as a really really good loss and they’re going to stay in the top 12 that’s just my because you look at Penn State we talked about this at length earlier this week with with Ry Lynch Penn State has no business being up there Indiana didn’t either it appears to be um so you have to move him back but that’s why you don’t put them so far ahead at that point you let them play their way into it right so now you have to defend that selection at number five if you’re going to keep them in the top 12 it should be kicked out I think either going to be in be like 10 or 11 or they’re going to do the right thing and put them at 1415 um somewhere in there that would be the right thing um and now funny enough Penn State’s goingon to move up maybe well no they won’t unless Texas drops one and they’re in a close Battle of Kentucky right now so Penn State’s going to stay just just free free money for Penn State um obviously Old Miss there at nine is is gone so George is going to move up after a you know 38o win Georgia’s going to move up keep an eye out on on Alabama tonight Texas like I said playing Kentucky close um it’s really interesting on that on that front right because when Georgia lost to Old Miss by 18 on the road against a really good SEC team they dropped nine spots so that brings me back to Indiana where do you drop them because that’s a bad loss folks that’s a bad loss and you don’t have those wins that Georgia had because Georgia had had a win against Texas a the best win in the country and they still dropped nine spots so if you I’m thinking like if you’re going to be objective here if you’re going to be objective which they’re supposed to be and get the best teams in then you have to you know do something similar there to the hooers even though they don’t have two losses I get that but the tough game they’ played the only tough game they played they they got blown out so so there has to be some repercussions here for this because if not a dangerous precedent is going to be set to where everybody’s scheduling cupcakes uh you know for non-conference opponents throughout the year and say Hey you know if our win to loss column looks great then we’re going to get in doesn’t matter who we play so that’s the dangerous situation to me I I I don’t like it I think it’s it’s horrible for the sport um make the games matter make who you play matter make how you play against who you play matter um but finally ending on this game uh for Georgia in Athens I think it was beneficial at least in the second half to play so well so you could get younger guys comfortable chony Bowens did some good things Dwight Phillips Jr um receiver wise you know guys like Cole spear uh those dudes who who have you know performed on the on the scout team and worked their tails off for this team kind of in the shadows and getting them guys uh reps and and experience in Sanford Stadium in front of a crowd like that so Kobe white I thought he looked talented with the ball in his hands I’d love to get him more involved um but other than that I mean you got the win in Sanford you’re going to move up in the cfp rankings U we’ll see where Georgia lands um SEC race you need some help there we’ll see David Cook on Facebook good to see Nitro playing absolutely where is he at let me see didn’t record a stat got targeted once but good to see him on the field of course because Georgia has a receiver issue next year right that’s why they’re recruiting so hard in the high school rank right now and I bet you I bet you they’re going to add some transfers as they have really every year the last three um so that’s that’s that’s the situation from Georgia you gotta get these guys reps man and make your recruiting classes count right because you know so many many of those receivers Georgia has recruited out of high school the last few years have transferred um because of play in time or what or what have you but Georgia has lacked there obviously in the receiver core they’ve been light they haven’t been deep injuries dismissal suspensions all that included um that’s that’s a major area for improvement headed into next season um and right now know injuries to some of those guys and I know uh Smith’s dealing with a hammy right so he has to get healthy I think that’s pivotal for George’s offense because you have to put up points but I think all things considered with how this offense has performed and kind of answered the Bell after that 10-point performance versus Old Miss the worst offensive performance all year the Improvement of the last few games has been there Carson taking care of the football he’s got some confidence he’s using his feet a lot he’s using his feet and that is such a big thing I was talking about it with already Lynch this week where Texs it back forth like adding that wrinkle into georg’s offense and no longer kind of protecting him right as your Star Quarterback doesn’t don’t want him get him hit Georgia you’ve got to make some improvements on the offense and get some points going what better to do that than to get your athletic quarterback moving and taking a Defender away um so that’s a a wrinkle I really like and I think it’s something that’s going to help Georgia um because I think Carson likes it I think he likes taking a hit now and then or giving a hit gets him settled in um and I know football players have talked about that in the past man getting getting a good hit in will settle you down and a and for a guy with so much weight on his shoulders that seemingly has created some confidence in Carson Beck which I really like to see if you’re Georg of fan you should like it too uh so next week we’ll be back uh we’ll talk cfp rankings I believe on on Tuesday or Wednesday one of those days and then we’ll have another show at the end of the week talking Georgia Tech it’s going to be a great game I’m really looking forward to this one and we’ve kind of circled it after that game last year I think Georgia won by eight points um so Brent key and those guys that would like nothing more to to ruin georg’s chances at a cfp birth I tell you that right now so Georgia I don’t think they can afford to show up flat they’re not going to have you know three quarters to get going against Georgia Tech especially that rushing offense how they like to control the tempo of the game how they like to control the possession time and keep the opposing offenses off the field that’s how they beat Miami cam Ward had a great day great day in that game but Georgia Tech just went on these like 10minute drives and kept him off the field so Georgia and that rushing defense today be careful gotta be careful hes King’s he’s a baller right not not a big passing offense they don’t really take those chances because they know they’re not going to win most of them so they keep it on the ground and they get things and Buster Falkner I think does a great job and he’s going to have a good idea of what he wants to do against Georgia and seeing the success that that running game had for UMass had today Tennesse did some good things in the Run game last week uh here and there all right so he’s that’s that stuff’s on tape and Buster fauler we already know is really good at cooking up those game plans on the ground um so George is going to have to be good there keep an eye out for Kristen Miller I’ll be keeping tabs on that to see if he’ll be back um I know how bad that injury is hopefully not bad it looks like maybe a separated shoulder dislocation something like that which he should be able to be back from that TimeWise not sure um but yeah George’s in for a good one next week I’m glad that this season is culminating like this against a much improved Georgia Tech Team at night in Athens um and then there is a possibility folks I want to save that Christmas money a little bit there’s a possibility that Georgia host a playoff game right possib Poss we don’t know possibility how cool would that be I mean Athens would be just a mad town just mad I mean so many they would have to call National Guard for the opposing fan base is getting so upset at being barked at all day because it’s going to be really really crazy in Athens if Georgia gets to host a cfp game man hang it in the Lo hang it in there um we’ll end it there folks have a great Saturday evening Georgia gets the win now 9-2 on the season setting up for a season finale in Athens Georgia Tech clean oldfashioned hate one of my favorites and I know you guys love that matchup too and how good is it to do it against a better Georgia Tech team that’s what’s the key for me but we’ll see you next week and until then as always we appreciate you if you’re watching on uh on X Facebook or or YouTube at the poll Sports Network or listening wherever you get your podcast uh we appreciate you as always have a good one
