Dodgers Nation Dodgers Dugout live the number one Dodgers podcast and show on YouTube and we are joined by USA Today MLB Insider the legend you know him you love him Mr Bob Nale Bob n you told us that see more exciting winter meetings you give it a B+ how do we get to an A but just kind of what’s the buzz here at the winter meeting so far this week and what do you make of it yeah it’s been very good I mean they uh I think if Corbin burn signs you know that would probably bring it to a minus or so but yeah so much better than last year we’ve had a kind of $1.3 billion doar spent in free agency at these winter meetings and we’ve had a uh what four trades involving 17 players and kind of highlighted as as we leave here with the Garrett crochet trade going from the white socks to Red Sox so remember it was about eight years to the day the white sock traded Chris Hil to Red Sox and he wenton a World Series yeah as far as the Dodgers go really the focus is on teoscar Hernandez now has anything changed significantly during these winter meetings as far as the Dodgers pursuit of Taos Hernandez whether that be after the signing of one soda more teams being interested in better offers just kind of what’s the buzz with the Dodgers and tals garnas at the moment I think probably the uh Pursuits have got more heavy from other teams the teams that didn’t get stto so I would imagine uh you know the Yankees are in there but the Yankees are focusing more on Kyle Tucker focusing more on Christian Walker I would think Toronto Blue Jays they kind of like Anthony Santander Santander so he’s on their radar but not a priority so I still think he ends with the Dodgers maybe you know for a little little bit more money than the Dodgers originally thought do you think there’s a chance that maybe there’s a fourth year for other teams out there do you think the gap between the Dodgers is years or is it money I mean how big do you think that Gap is right now probably years I mean even with Max free when he signed he was like okay once a Yankees went an eighth year hey I’ll do it I imagine to be Christian Walker too someone gives him a fourth year hey I’ll do it so I I would imagine that AAS Hannah hernandz would love to get that fourth year you know instead of making a 3year 657 million contract then a 4year you know over8 now as far as possible trades you mentioned in your piece yesterday that the Dodgers would be Nan Aeron a’s number one choices priority if he would be dealt there does have full node trade but the Dodgers aren’t the only team on that list no there’s teams you go to like you know the the Mets the Red Soxs uh San Diego Padres uh you know Giants but when you think about it I mean the just don’t have room for him uh you know as long as Max mun is you know alive he’s playing Third Base so I don’t say see him with the Dodgers at all uh Yankees are a possibility you know Red Sox could work uh not too many options you know he he prefer to go west he lives in La he spends a lot of time in Phoenix so we’ll see but just you know a few years ago it would have worked perfectly for the Dodgers but just doesn’t make sense now yeah Max Muny he’s their third baseman the Dodgers General man Brandon Gomes told us that was going to be the case so yeah there’s really no room for him be great stories from Southern California Dodgers fans have won him for a long time but doesn’t seem like it’s likely based on what you’re saying now as far as the relievers and the Dodgers made it really pretty clear yesterday to us Andrew Freeman told us that they’re not done when it comes to pursuing relievers what are you hearing about the Dodgers and potentially pursuing Tanner Scott well he’s a guy everybody wants uh you know so I’m sure the uh New York Yankees are you know will be all over him uh you know the Mets uh Philadelphia Phillies just got one but probably could use more you know than getting Romano but yeah uh we’ll see how high that price tag goes he’ll make himself some money I think he’ll he’ll outprice himself from San Diego he won’t go back there so I would be surprised if the Dodgers sign them just cuz I think you know they usually get involved in bidding wars this could be a bidding a war for Tanner Scott yeah and a lot of these players going over their projections and Tanner Scott you saw what the Padres paid to get him with those three top prospect it’s going to be a big price tag to get him in La now as far as dein Williams is concerned there was some talk that maybe the Brewers weren’t going to move him before the season now there’s some talk they might what do you hear about Devon Williams at the moment and how interested are the Dodgers in trading for him oh I really love to have this guy I mean he’s one of the top two three closers in all baseball uh you know at least top five but I I don’t see the Brewers trading him not yet they they want to see if they stay in the race if they’re on the race you know they’ll trade them summer it’s a little bit like will adamus you know they could have traded him at you know before the season or at the deadline they held on to him and made the playoffs so I don’t think it’s a hurry on Deon Williams you know they can trade them any time I’d be surprised if they deal them but they got to listen somebody you know over payement prospects they listen yeah and as far as the Dodgers trade chips you have top prospects do but do you expect them to include guys like maybe Gavin Lux or consider someone like that in a deal for Deon Williams or is you think it’s kind of too early to kind of put a package together probably too early uh you know I mean Gavin Lux he start you know he’s going to start to make some money here pretty soon usually the Brewers want guys that don’t make any money so probably too soono on Prospect package uh if you the Dodgers at least you pursue other options say okay if we have to go the Williams route how much are we willing to pay in terms of our top prospects absolutely and a fan favorite for the Dodgers that every wants to see back another Hernandez ke Hernandez haven’t heard very much about him reported are you hearing anything about K Hernandez and do you think that the Dodgers that Top Choice for him and you expect him to be back in La I would think so as long as the Dodgers want him uh you know he’s very comfortable there fan favorite but a lot of the guys who are kind of the Lesser free agents or you know you drop down a tier or two no one’s talked about everybody’s worried about the big boys right now so a guy like Ki Hernandez would surprise me at all if you know he’s signed in January you know whether it’s the you know Dodgers or somewhere else but yeah a lot of yeah those guys won’t be signed here and then Walker ber market for him we’re heing Yankees they went on they signed Max free the Cubs a potential destination kind of what I ask you is as far as the timeline goes at Roki Sasaki do you think that impacts them potentially bringing back walker beer they kind of look at him separately separately I mean Walker beer coming back doesn’t make sense to me I mean you already have seven or eight starters and you know good chance that gets aaki uh at least you know everybody likes their chanes if you get Sasaki then if you have buer to what’s the point you you know you want to move him and I think Walker buer is thinking you know what I have to have one good year somewhere then I can pivot and get my big big contract that I want so I would think he wants to go a place where he can be very comfortable you know pitching wise absolutely our last question Bob a couple days ago you asked Dave Roberts about his reaction to the Juan stto contract and now you look at what the Dodgers got with SH Otani last season with the deferrals that contract has got to look a lot better today than it did last season even considering how profitable and how great he is as a player yeah I mean it was still a good deal last year particularly with the defer money but now you’re talking about how much money he brought to the Dodgers last year and what his impact was as a player in the clubhouse everything else so the contract looks like an absolute steal so both sides are happy I mean uh he makes a killing off the field more money than any baseball players has ever lived uh obviously put on a historic season now he’s going to start pitching but yeah I mean you’d rather have sh Otani at that contract you know or stto you know you would take Otani in a heartbeat you know nobody would uh say they’ take soda yeah I mean you look at these 10year deals a lot of the back end they don’t look so great think that contract has a chance to go down as the best superstar contract in baseball history it it’s funny it’s like a lot of Scouts and the executives talk about what’s the best contract in history there’s really three that come to mind one when Barry Bond signed with the Giants for about you know 4546 million Greg Maddox signed a four-year deal with the uh Atlanta Braves you know one you know W the World Series with the playoffs every single year then the one that’s probably the best of all time is Randy Johnson D Max had a four-year T contract he won four sa young Awards in a World Series but yeah it could be that that could be if the Dodgers end up winning you know a multiple you know three four World Series with Otani then you got to consider it still too early to tell but they’re off to a great start well thank you so much Mr Bob nil guys go out there you already read all of his stuff over at USA Today follow him on X as well Bob thank you so much joining us here on Dodgers dougout live my man my pleasure thank you Doug
