welcome back tun to the episode of rock boys football deal late Sunday night coach Prime the Colorado Buffalo is landing their first commitment of this transfer portal window coming from former Louisiana Monroe Center Carter Miller they the first what do the boys do on our Sunday night for the last 45 minutes taking a look at Carter Miller’s film against Texas and I’ll say this it was impressive and what you always try to do when you see these G5 guys commit to power four programs is find some game film of what they do against Power four competition now his game film against Texas happens to be against one of the best defensive lines in the country acquitted himself quite well and one of the things that I love the most and this is something coach Prime I think is realized you take a look at the offensive lineman in the transfer portal who have been primarily the ones that work out not only for Colorado but across the country it’s the G5 guys that have played a lot of football that have played good football that are now jumping up to the P4 level who was Colorado’s best transfer portal offensive lineman last year was Justin Mayers you know so coming from utap I think Carter Miller kind of same story a guy that has started the last two years one at James Madison then transfers to Louisiana Monroe has had a lot of success now he’s bumping up to the power four level want to talk about couple of different things one what Carter Miller brings to this Colorado offensive line and then talk about how this col Colorado offensive line is coming together heading into 2025 before we do and as always to the Colorado fans a lot of which who’ve been rocking with the boys going back 12 months as we talked about this team in the transfer portal last year we cannot Colorado program over the next couple of weeks D you watch the Texas game I’ll give you the tbox here Carter Miller what does he bring to this Colorado offensive line and the thing that stood out was the physicality in that zone scheme they like to run a little bit of a shorter guy but plays with good leverage I thought was moving guys around a little bit and again I look like Colorado I do feel like the Run game is probably GNA be more important next year as they kind of bring in a new era with Julian Lewis and whatever probably transfer portal portal quarterback they bring in where I don’t think you can be as relying on that position as you probably were with shadar Sanders just because he was that good he was that Dynamic I think you want to see this team probably run the ball better and better and more probably often than you did last year and you look at Carter Miller I thought that’s where he kind of excelled now at ULM didn’t see a ton of the pass rushh film necessarily they didn’t ask a ton from him in that department but really really good run BL in pass protection I mean from from the PFF numbers and what we saw against Texas they they look good right only gave up seven pressures two sacks and so and D he’s a fire hydrant man like yes he on the scale is a little bit light at only 300 pound but because he’s only 62 he does a phenomenal job keeping those pads low and not really getting moved around by some really big Texas defensive lineman because of those low pads you make a really good point Colorado is gonna want to run the football more successful and they took a jump from the 2023 year to 2024 you kind of hope they take that next jump because you’re right if it is Julian Lewis starting as a true freshman what’s the best thing you can do for a Young quarterback give them a run game to work off of and give them some play action opportunity and Carter Miller in some of that zone scheme was really moving some bodies in a really good athlete man gets up to the second level picks up some linebackers and that’s again you talk about Colorado scheme I’m sure it’s not going to change that much I’m still sure they’re still going to be in that kind of spread system you got to be athletic you got to be able to pick up moving targets another thing with that zone run run scheme that you like to run certainly very capable at doing that picking up working off of double teams and getting up to guys at the so the the last thing I’ll note is he was part of that Kirk Signet JMU team in 2023 we saw a lot of those JMU players move up to the power four level at Indiana they’re playing for a college football playoff right now and so like you’ve seen some guys especially who have been coached by Kurt cetti kind of rise up in and go play at the power four level I think that speaks to Kurt signed and the evaluations he was doing at the high school ranks so that even makes you feel a little bit more confident that Carter Miller can make that jump to the power four level and you take a look at how this Colorado offensive line is going to come together one thing I love about Carter Mill he’s got two years of Eligibility you know coach Prime sometimes catches some flak for not recruiting the high school classes enough there is a lot of guys that he’s brought in that have extended years of eligibility now where does he fit in I think first it might just be a pure upgrade at the center position right Hank solinis cash Cleveland two young centers that I would expect to get better going into 2025 you know cash was a true freshman Hank was a sophomore and so you might just be fine there and I think the the beautiful part about Carter Miller he’s also played guard and I think could play guard at a high level too and that’s when you’re replacing guys like Justin mayor maybe that’s where Carter Miller fits in but when you get a guy that has that position flex and you’re trying to not I was going to say Cate when you’re trying to build the best starting five offensive line having a guy that could play center that could play guard it’s extremely useful and you know you have a dog in Jordan seeden for the next couple years probably only two more years going to the NFL you had another piece in the Middle with Carter Miller replacing some veteran guys side not Zack Owens who transferred in last year from Clemson that’s another guy that I would expect Colorado’s playing was hey you might not play for us in 2024 you might be ready to rock and roll in 2025 I would keep my eye on him as a potential starter loved him out of high school though the last guy we got to talk about big Caleb Odin I we’re we’re both big fans of Caleb Odin couple storylines we’ve talked about him a lot so we’ll keep it brief one the Julian Lewis connection right they played at Carlton during their high school days and you watch Julian Lewis’s Junior film and you watch Caleb Odin’s senior film that was Duo that was very difficult to stop for high school for high school defenses and I think more importantly if you can get a guy like Caleb odm I think he replaces a little bit of that will Shepard vibe that big boundary wide receiver more importantly you’re giving Julian Lewis his number one target from high school and a big body pass catcher regardless and I think the the thought process for Colorado here is hey how can we make whoever is playing quarterback you know whether it’s a transfer Port portal quarterback whether it’s Julian Lewis how can we make their life as easy as possible in 2025 big body Caleb Odin would certainly go a long way in doing that and one thing I look at with him is I almost feel like Alabama thought of him as like a jumbo tight end of sorts I don’t feel like they ever got to using him the way he can like I look I think he runs clean routes I think he’s a better athlete a better mover than almost Alabama was treating him like like I think he can play more of that traditional wide receiver than what Alabama wanted DP and you look at how Colorado wants their wide wide receivers to play they got to be athletic they got to be able to play in space run long developing routes like I do think his athletic upside gives him that ability to play that game that again I don’t know that Alabama really I think I think it’s easy to sell your stock on Caleb Bowden after his freshman year I think won there was kind of some friction I think I don’t know personally but it was like what are we gonna do are we gonna keep are we gonna put him at tight end that’s what a lot of people thought he was going to play out of high school or are we gonna make him a big bodied wide receiver I think if you just pick a position and lean into it which I think it’d be wide receiver if he goes to Colorado regard even if he’s a tight end like it Colorado wants to they would love some kind of more athleticism and juice at the tight end position from a pass catching standpoint bet on this kid He is 65 230 moves extraordinarily well for the sides whether he’s playing wide receiver whether he’s playing tight end I don’t really give a dang because he’s he’s one of those athletes that’s what coach Prime does like give me the athletes we’ll figure out how to get him on the football field have success with them we’ll see how that one works out Carter Miller not going to get a ton of national media Buzz really good pick up for the Colorado Buffalo as they continue to improve the line of scrimmage play we saw take a jump in 2024 you kind of expect to take a jump in 2023 or 2025
