how you doing everybody it’s Wy here and as always we’re breaking down the lace in Mets land and in a late night edition of our big Mets update segment because more news has come out over the past hour of the time recording this couple hours I should say because polar bear Pete Alonzo appears Mets or bust this goes directly in hand with our video just from a day or so ago and the metsing pazo feels inevitable because at the time of recording that video the Yankees had signed Paul goldmit another potential Alonzo Alonzo Suitor off the board since then there have been four plus teams coming off the board that could have been Alonzo suitors as well with the most latest speed the Washington Nationals another team in the division another rival adding a player to make themselves better for 2025 earlier today it was Jesus Lardo to the Philadelphia Phillies from Miami now is Nathaniel low going from the Texas Rangers here to the Washington Nationals we’re going to break down and low his game and his impact immediately for the Nationals and ultimately now the impact on Alonzo’s Market as yet again another shter is off the board what teams are potentially left for Alonzo why does it feel so inevitable yet again for the Mets to land Alonzo and could the Mets potentially lend Alonzo even a more Team friendly contract that we have even fathomed at this point let’s break that all the Mets signing pet Lonzo feels inevitable that was right after the Yankees sign Goldman since then per Jeff pass that you guys see here a lot has tra changed over the past 24 hours or so not only do we see Goldie there go to the New York Yankees but we see Christian Walker there right around a day or so prior in that same realm go to the Houston Astros right Josh Naylor goes to the Arizona Diamondbacks a younger higher upside first baseman versus Christian Walker love the Walker fit in Houston as I do nailor there in Arizona for them because Carlos Santana goes back to Cleveland yet again Santana who’s aging like a fine wine there most recently of the Minnesota Twins he was another potential stop Gap option should the Mets may have considered such should they not land polar bear pet Alonzo but now another key piece comes off the trade market one evaluating first baseman as we mentioned and that is Nathaniel low going from the Texas Rangers here to the Washington Nationals and this right away I think is a very strong pickup for the Nationals I like this a lot for them this is a team on the cuss of being a wild card hungry club and I think we’re really going to see them push hard for a wild card spot as soon as this upcoming season low who still has a couple years left on his contract and till the 2027 off season has been sitting right around a 770 to 800 Ops hitter he’s been pretty solid throughout his career especially for the Texas Rangers that we have seen he’s going to give you a solid amount of home runs uh per year is going to give you right around a 260 plus average actually if we Deep dive in particular his numbers here per fan graphs everybody 16 home runs 69 RBI a 265 361 401 clip for 121 WRC plus that is 21% better than the average battering baseball for reference and roughly three War there uh solid Defender at times certainly has upside on the offensive end 17 home runs 89 runs scored 82 RBI a year ago with a 117 WRC plus his big that we saw was in the 2022 season with 27 home runs 76 RBI so more slugging there and higher contact at 302 358 492 slug a great great clip there for low with a 143 WRC plus 43% better than the average batter in baseball low who has steadily declined there are the power that we’ve seen over the past couple Seasons it’s still a formidable option at first base for many teams and the reason why the Rangers are partying ways with low is because one he has a solid amount of value currently and this first base market and secondly they currently do have a first base option sure they wish to go that down that route and the man that they acquired this offseason from the Miami Marin and Mr Jake Berger now could the Texas Rangers technically still consider someone employer bar pet Alonzo they can but are we expecting the Rangers to be Big Spenders at all this off season after what they’ve done in recent years and there’s been reasons to believe that they are going to be shedding payroll more than more often than not this off season that is exactly why I’m not really losing sleep over that at this point in time at the least this was more of a move to give Burger more consistent playing time and potentially other in-house options that they had there for first base while getting a solid returning low in which they gave up a quality reliever that being the Nationals there and the young southp Believe by the last name of Ruiz and he’s going over there and he had a tremendous K toalk ratio last season has three years left of control his expected yearr was a full run and a half lower than his Baseline yearr right right around four when he was sitting right around two and a half great pickup there on the bullpen front for the Rangers I think that they could have done a little bit better for low but maybe I’m wrong considering that he hasn’t been on a terrible decline but there has been a little bit that we have seen on the power since that breakout year I should really just say the 2022 season is the anomaly out the four-year stretch because he’s had 18 17 and 16 home run Seasons 127 home run season all around the same amount of RBI for the most part and one looking the Ops Rangers they really haven’t wavered all that much outside of the 2022 year when looking at the slugging he’s been pretty consistent getting on base there his average and his slugging so this is a guy that again we can expect to be a pest against the Mets without question and I’m not looking forward to that I’m never looking forward to arrival especially a young hungry one and the Washington Nationals trying to make themselves better that is never a good thing but what is a good thing at least if there’s any upside to this current Factor it is that this is yet again another team that is potentially out of the bidding now for polar bear pet Alonzo and that is the entire point of today’s discussion here Folks by having Nathaniel low now Landing there with the Washington Nationals that was one of the last favored or potential rumor teams to land Alonzo now there are a couple other teams out there that people speculate whether it’s the sh Chicago Cubs which I’ve talked about plenty over the past year and a half whether it is to a certain extent the Texas Rangers which I think would have made a lot more sense that the Rangers ran it back this past year and had more success versus being as much of a disappointment that they were in 2024 really dealing with that World Series Handover but in the case of the Seattle Mariners the Chicago Cubs the San Francisco Giants those are three teams in particular that still stand out to me where they could UTI certainly utilize a first space option like Alonzo but one the Mariners have yet to proly willing to suspend so I’m really looking on them from the outside looking in from a Viewpoint when I look at the Chicago Cubs I have similar feeling to them they have not been Big Spenders in the off season as they have been trying to prioritize the trade market as well as again if they were not too worried about the dollars I don’t think that they would have been as adamant to trade away Cody Ballinger I understand that Ballinger maybe isn’t living exactly to his expectation contract but he’s still a very solid option for that for them in which he can play multiple positions even if he doesn’t play them all at Elite rate he can certainly do it at a solid one and melinger I think is going to benefit greatly there from the short porch now and Yankee Stadium and then when you look at the San Francisco Giants listen they’re a team that has been making big splashes each and every offseason I haven’t necessarily agreed with all of them Willie Damas is a true short stop and they’ needed that but how’s Willie going to Faire and that certainly pitcher ballpark there at Oracle along with Adamas who has really fluctuate was defensive numbers throughout his career how is he going to age there I know that Matt Chapman is certainly not going to hurt to be paed alongside with him for the next number of years but for Buster POs to make a splash like that I have both optimism and skepticism with that are they will to make a bigger one now potentially or similar to in s uh Landing pet Lonzo on a multi-year deal but are the San Francisco Giants really willing to go down a route where it’s completely separating the Mets from having a potential chance to land said player in Alonzo and I just don’t foresee that to be the case I don’t think we’re going to see them in a position where okay the Mets clearly are getting out bid because Alonzo is getting like a five sixe contract where the Mets are nowhere near I don’t think the Mets are going to lose out by Alonzo at all because I don’t think that they’re going to be finding themselves out of the market much at all even if one team really does decide to go all in on him I think in the case of polar bear Pete he feels destined to land back with the Mets here and that exactly why I’ve been preaching to the choir for as long as I’ve been now and as I mentioned I look at what is happening now in the National League pretty much every single team outside of the Colorado Rockies outside of the Miami Marlins and outside I think you could say to an extent the St Louis Cardinals because they’re ring right now especially if they get rid of Nolan arado you could say everyone else in the National League for the most part is a fringe wild card team or a true playoff caliber team and plenty of them aren’t going to make playoffs even with this wild card format because of how many good teams we simply out in the National League simply put if every NL team went toe totoe against all the the American League they would absolutely Stomp Them nine times out of 10 there is so much depth in the national league right now nailor going to the Diamondbacks makes a Dbacks better in my opinion than what they would have had right now in Walker to an extent not a drastic one but there is higher upside higher ceiling there and in the case of Nathaniel low that is a fantastic get over what was just Joey manessis a year plus ago or so so they definitely are looking in the right direction when you look at the national especially with CJ Abrams James wooders so and you have kebert Ruiz who I still have a lot of high op High optimist in McKenzie Gore a lot of these key pieces from the WAN sto trade it’s fitting that a lot of these guys from the sto trade now are starting to Blossom while Juan Soto’s back in the division getting ready to dominate against set team for the next 15 years I can’t wait to see it happen but listen I really need to see polar bear pet Alonzo batting behind Juan sto for at least the next couple years for me to be satisfied I’m not going to be opposed to an opt out for Alonzo on say a player option the firstand or second year of a multi-year deal if he’s down forward I’m down forward it gives Mets an option to go after Vlad Guerrero Jr next off off season should they have the opportunity to should Alonzo opt out after saying having a massive 2025 year batting there with stto in the lineup that would be the deepest lineup the Mets have ever had with Alonzo and his young career and on top of it all they do land bregman as well from our last video that we did earlier today check that out if you haven’t everybody because yes the Mets are pursuing both Alonzo and bregman it is not as much of oh it’s going to Simply Be one or the other no there’s certainly a reality where they can land both is it the best reality is it the greatest one not necessarily but certainly a possibility right now certainly with Alonzo returning I will continue to say feels inevitable until proen otherwise and then bregman he does have a massive Market as well or the Blue Jays going to drastically outspend where the Mets don’t feel comfortable at all going maybe the Mets don’t want to even go past 150 or close to 150 for bregman but all I know is the the interest is serious they’re still involved and there is good reason for that everybody so polar bear Alonzo I think we would all love to see this man back in Flushing Queens but now after seeing what the Wasing Nationals did making their young team better having a controllable first baseman for the next couple years certainly an upgrade over a guy that they had from a year plus ago as well and Dominick Smith for example uh they certainly trending in the right direction but so are the Mets certainly if they bring back polarbear pet Alonzo and add to this rotation we talked about it plenty we know that they’re going to either bring Shaman back and or make other quality moves maybe they’re going to make a starter move that we haven’t talked about too much yet and we talked about pretty much every option imaginable in our recent live stream with Jamie shano from a couple days ago so check that content out in case you haven’t already everybody but thank you all
