Anthony reacts to the Lakers beating the Kings in Sacramento again, this time a little differently than the first.

(Anthony Davis missed clutch free throws again and at some point we’re gonna have to talk about it)

Overall though, great week for the Lakers, who now sit fifth in the west with LeBron James looking a lot more like his usual self.

Listeners and the live audience have a ton of questions, so after a quick preamble, Anthony hands the show over to you.

[Music] Avery whose show is [Music] this and we’re live welcome everybody here to the Lakers Lounge podcast I’m Anthony irn senior Lakers Insider for clutch points today on the show what what a good week what a great week it’s been here for the Lakers as they beat the Kings twice in a row they currently sit fifth in the conference um they beat the Kings by the way the second time with ad not even playing that well d’angela Russell went off in that game um you know LeBron went one of eight from three-point range it was the role players who uh did the little things necessary ruy made an absolutely huge play at the end of the game there saving Anthony Davis from his clutch free throws that he missed again and um Austin Reeves got to the free throw line and and and helped ice that basically ice the game and and look like I said it on Twitter I’ll repeat it here King sucked this year but going into Sacramento when you’re the Lakers and getting the absolute best out of the Kings every time that you’re there and winning twice um in in a matter of of days um is is impressive and and the Lakers being able to pull that off even maybe even um W especially with it being ugly uh that’s a that’s a step that’s a big step in the right direction here uh you know for for this Lakers season so we’ll talk about that game we’ll talk about the um the latest that I’m hearing as far as the trade market I’m sure you guys have a ton of questions about said trade market so I’m going to go ahead and and dive on into those questions as well um we have a ton of question we have a question here from the iTunes mailbag we have a few questions here from the Discord mailbag we have a few questions from the uh Twitter uh my my Twitter following um after I uh asked for questions uh a little bit earlier so and then obviously over the course of the show uh I’m hoping you guys will chime in with your questions um to uh you know so that we can fill out the show there as well um it is a fantasy football Sunday so occasionally I might glance that way uh at the red zone that is often that is on in the background my Vikings don’t play again uh until three so uh we’ll be done in plenty of time for that um but yeah we’ll we’ll go ahead and and um see where this show takes us where you guys take us and uh and and get you out of here to enjoy the rest of your Sunday the last Sunday by the way before the holiday really the holidays really kind of kick in let’s get to it a quick reminder to please hit that subscribe button wherever it is that you guys are currently watching so if you really helps um and then if you guys are listening to this uh Monday morning in its uh podcast form please hit subscribe wherever it is that you get your podcast then and a really important step here that really really helps the show is for you guys to tell your friends and family at the Holiday table look everybody’s going to want to talk about politics and the election and all kinds of nonsense just tell them hey everybody let’s shut up let’s not talk about that let’s talk about the Lakers Lounge my personal favorite show is this weird chubby dude chubby Mexican dude who for some reason has an audience but he has fun with it um you guys should check it out that stuff helps so you know and and and and it shuts up your drunk uncle who wants to talk about the the the the wrong stuff that nobody actually wants to talk about this time of year um but yeah again let’s just let’s talk about uh what we need to talk about here which is the Lakers beating the kings in Sacramento twice in three days so obviously the first one was a little bit more resounding a victory than the second uh the the the second one was 10399 um being your final and uh you know it was kind of a weird played game really sloppy a lot of open Miss shots and stuff too um which you know randomizes um outcomes in the NBA but still 10399 in Sacramento uh the Lakers uh improving to 16 and 12 on the season Sacramento falling to 13 and 16 they the Lakers may have like started you know like that those first couple hammers right when you’re putting a nail into a coffin those first couple hammers might be delivered here by the uh oh gosh right away Jerome Ford with a big run um but no the uh the the Lakers may have started putting some some hammers into the Kings uh damont sabonis dearon Fox era as apparently Rich Paul uh dearen Fox is a clutch client rich Paul spoke with um the king’s leadership to ask what’s the deal here where where are we heading what’s the what’s the plan um and you know Darren Fox hasn’t signed his extension didn’t sign his extension and um could be a free agent I believe after this season and apparently the San Antonio Spurs are like checking in on what’s going on there this all via uh Sam Amic of the um of the athletic and so like an amch is incredibly well plugged in with um with with the the Sacramento Kings and and that entire organization so when he writes this stuff you know something is up and uh you know if if the Kings do decide to just embrace the tank and move on from Fox you know maybe that puts Malik Monk on the table maybe that puts um demard D rozan on the table I’m not all that interest the only King that I would actually be interested in would be dearon Fox um monk doesn’t really solve issues with the Lakers would be a really fun player um to to go out and get but I don’t think he’s what the kind of player that the Lakers need I don’t think Keegan Murray is going to be on the table cuz he’s young enough to be kind of part of the next chapter after dearen Fox um I would imagine if they trade Fox maybe they look to also move damont sabonis and and really bought him out but um a lot of weird stuff going on there in Sacramento just a a brutal season for them um I hated the the demard de rozan acquisition it didn’t make much sense to me the kings were already too small and they got smaller um and less efficient by getting uh D rozan and uh you know this is kind of it’s it’s just a tough spot that the uh that the Kings organization finds itself and put itself um you know getting rid of of Harrison Barnes I I think kind of hurt them um they they kind of missed that that physicality uh on the wing that he brought and uh yeah I mean you guys know when you trade a wing for a uh an inefficient uh scorer like like d rozan it’s it’s going to alter your team’s you know makeup and and in this case I think it really kind of hurt them um which sucks like DeMar rosen seems like such a good dude um it’s just you know he plays a brand of basketball that does not work in the modern NBA with all of the focus being on the uh rim and the three-point line he operates in the middle there and um it just it doesn’t I don’t think it’s it’s and he doesn’t play well enough on defense um either so it’s just it’s just you know he’s not the kind of player that you should be making moving uh Heaven and Earth to go out and get the way that the Sacramento Kings did and I think it’s it’s really hurting them anyway um the Lakers you know you look at the lines that the Lakers had here and uh Anthony Davis 10 and 15 did have five assists did have the three blocks but was pretty clearly outplayed this Time Around by damont sabonis who finished with 191 19 and five um LeBron played 34 minutes got his uh shots up that’s for sure 13 of 24 from the field again one of eight from the uh from the three-point line 32 points uh for him seven boards six assists four steals um tied for Game High plus 10 on the game good Lebron game I really good Lebron game um and then elsewhere you have Austin Reeves was six of 14 he also struggled from three-point range everybody struggled from three-point range the Lakers shot nine of 35 from the three-point line and the Kings shot 10 of 37 from the three-point line lot of open looks too that were that were uh not going down for both teams um and so but anyway uh Reeves finished six of 14 from the field three of five from the free throw line 16 points five assists four rebounds also was a plus 10 in the game uh the big story here though was D’Angelo Russell who played 30 minutes scored uh 20 points seven of 13 from the field three of seven from three-point range uh five assists four rebounds um and and was a plus one coming off of the bench and uh you know he finished the game and and belonged out there I thought um finishing the game hit some big shots down the stretch uh the Lakers offense was kind of sputtering there was a they were up by like 10 I think with a couple minutes to go and then uh went on a cold streak um I think I think DLo snapped the cold streak with a with a layup then also made like a a you know one of those leaning jumpers in the in the paint um made a couple free throws as well down the stretch um was really was really key seeing his points were really difficult to come by in that game and uh you know again shouts to dowlo for embracing this this role as well as we could have possibly hoped for and and in this in this case the Lakers don’t win that game without d’angela Russell and it was a it was a really important game considering the the the tough games that are on the Lakers Lakers schedule ahead and uh you know winning both of those games in Sacramento um you know I I I think it was like three games ago um I had said that um you know in in the in the next 10 you’re just hoping to go 500 well the Lakers are are are uh a few wins away from ensuring that and and getting both of the wins there in Sacramento was was a was a key point there because of some of the games that are coming up on their schedule so um yeah and then you know the the story continues to be now Max only played 18 minutes in this one um really kind of weird I I thought decision there uh cam reddish played more minutes 22 for him um cam played yeah I don’t know I I I don’t think there are too many games where Cam should be outplaying Max for minutes but still when Max is playing the way that he is and defending the way that he is and then you also have somebody like cam coming off of your bench who is defending the way that he can then you also have Gabe who um plays solid defense too 16 minutes uh for him he knocked down a couple threes in the game as well now all of a sudden on the perimeter you have a few guys who can get out there and defend now that does unfortunately mean Dalton connect is basically out of the rotation but I think that’s a good thing like one of the weird things in sports is sometimes taking a step back you know uh not playing for a little bit regardless of sport right taking a day off taking a little break take a step back reanalyze what you’re doing try to figure out like what might be going wrong um that stuff helps and we just saw with LeBron right he had that you know know week and a half stretch or so where uh he didn’t play and we saw him come back and what he’s looked like since he’s come back he looks like a different player than he did right before he took that break and I think with Dalton uh taking a a little breather you know re-evaluating what’s going wrong with your with your shooting and all of that stuff like that that’s I think something that that he needs and uh something that he is going to get and it’s it’s a um a luxury that the Lakers can afford right now because of the way that Max is playing because of the way that that cam is playing and because of the way also that um that that Gabe is playing as well so big win there for the Lakers again 16 and 12 on the season those couple stupid losses really kind of annoy you right because 18 and 10 would put you right up there with the elite um teams up at the top of the conference and and that’s why those those losses sting in the moment and then they continue to sting over the course of the season but big win there um let’s go ahead and and talk a little bit about trade stuff and then I’ll hand the Reigns over to you um all right quick reminder uh you know you guys see the QR code up there in the in the top uh I think it’s left I don’t know it’s my left hand it might be your you might be looking at the at the right side of your screen it is my left hand pointing up here at the QR code um the Lakers Lounge is brought to you on YouTube by uh underdog uh fantasy and I hope you guys I’ve been putting my picks out there on Twitter um hit some haven’t hit some as well they’ve been really fun though super fun app and then you can go to underdog.bbq uh some of the trade stuff that I’m hearing obviously it is now a week past the unofficial kickoff date of trade season um the Lakers it’s funny like the if the Lakers had lost a couple of these games and uh were you know sat basically where Sacramento does the front office would be saying well you know is it even worth investing into this team and then now that they have won these couple games the stuff that I’m hearing is like well you know we’ve won so therefore we don’t we don’t need to like be desperate in in the kind of move that we that we make and when we make it and it’s like okay so no matter what you’re gonna have the uh excuses lined up for um waiting as long as you possibly can um uh waiting as long as you possibly can to make a uh any kind of a move so um yeah I I it’s I wish I had more information for you guys but it sounds like the Lakers are are going to continue to be patient here um we have already seen and and like to that point you know last year some of the guys that would be um that are you know are now on the trade market again you know last year it was like it’s going to take a first rounder at least for Dorian finny Smith and it’s going to take a couple first rounders for cam Johnson and it’s going to take at least a first rounder for Bruce Brown and and now you know you you listen to some of the reporting around those situations and those prices have already dropped from then to now and the Lakers are basically betting that those prices will continue to drop and they typically do uh continue to drop over the course of the year so that when you get to the trade deadline rather than pay multiple first round or second rounders for yonis valent chunis as the Lakers don’t want to do right now um that you you you instead trade you know of a couple uh or you trade a second rounder or you trade you know one second rounder and a heavily protected second rounder um for yonas at that point in the season um the Lakers also think that they’ll get some good news on uh the Christian Wood front as well as the Jackson Hayes front and maybe that you know kind of fills out their front Court um so that they don’t have to be so desperate for um you know for for front Court help so you know there there’s that aspect of it too right the more desperate you seem the more that a team feels like it can ask of you in those trade talks so um again this is just Theory here according to the Lakers um and according to the people that I’m hearing that like yeah we’re going to go ahead we’re going to wait a little bit and and uh hopefully over the course of the Year those prices will continue to drop and we can get multiple targets out there because I I do think that the sense that I’m getting and and I’m echoing I think windhorse reported this and and I’ve been hearing a lot of the same stuff that like the Lakers know that it’s going to take multiple moves to um get them to where they they need uh to be and they where they want to be and uh you know what that would mean is is you know yonas and a wing or yonas and a couple Wings if the Lakers can possibly swing it um they they if they depending on who they trade uh to get you know more help if one of the players that they send out is D’Angelo Russell they feel like they need a point guard who is capable of doing the stuff off of the bench that has um that has helped since D his move there so uh it’s it’s you know trades are tricky because you’re inherently sending out something and if you’re sending if you’re getting something in return of value teams are expect to get something of value and uh the Lakers you know and in this new you know CBA basically no teams have um you know fatty salary and you know if you’re sending out something of value it’s going to impact your rotation and and and so on and so forth so um again it’s you know the Lakers are stressing patience here they have won a couple games in a row and they think that that allows them uh patience and uh you know that’s just again not necessarily how I feel I would personally make a move sooner rather than later so that it’s not such a crazy scramble to make everything work once everything is in place after the deadline um but that’s that’s obviously not necessarily how the Lakers feel about it and we all have to wait all right let’s go ahead and start with the the iTunes mailbag as I always promise you guys I will on Tuesday um derin 350 writes uh hi Anthony when I was looking for a podcast to listen to someone who was honest about the state of the Lakers I found Lakers Lounge I typically like to stay in the background big fan of the show I have some legitimate questions I never knew the front office was uh Game of Thrones I’m starting to wonder if it is ego and huus um I understand LeBron wanted rust but 80% of the roster construed issues are on Rob what is it about this group that Rob Pinko believes in that no one else wants he dismantled the team that is now a blueprint for success for other teams I still don’t understand why they couldn’t salary dump JHS and Max Lewis to keep Spencer dwy and torian prince who both wanted to come back at least they are rotation players Alex Caruso said when he called that poinko would not answer the phone I’m sorry for the rant but I guess the question I have is what would Kobe think about the job Rob pinka has done slot done if Kobe was alive would pinka still have his position I really appreciate your refesh refreshingly honest takes happy holidays all right a lot to um unravel there um all right so the first question here um you know about the the front office being Game of Thrones E I think it’s more like vep um because of like I don’t know how I don’t know how many of you guys watch vep but like the the thing with vep that made it hilarious was all of the characters in vep thought that they were great at what they did and they all sucked at what they did right that’s what that was like the the genius behind the show and generally speaking that’s how I feel about politicians in general right they all think that they uh you know are good enough to who um you know have all of that responsibility and and and they are smart enough to run the country and all that stuff but in reality they all suck and and I think um with with the Lakers front office it’s kind of similar where I think a lot of them think very very highly of themselves and think very very highly of each other in that little bubble um but the reality is they all fall short of what we need them to be so so um I I I think like you know Game of Thrones is was probably the more popular reference to make there but I would probably go with vep instead um now as far as uh you know why Rob ran away from the the the team construct and the roster construction and the identity of that 20192020 team I have no idea I I I think uh Harrison has a theory on this that I think is a good one um that is you know Rob was a former agent and a lot of his clients were uh bucket Getters because at that time you know when he was an agent the best way to ensure that you would get paid was to score score the basketball put the ball in the hoop and you will get paid now in in this iteration of the league um you know it’s it it’s not that simple you you can’t just be a bucket getter you also have to do the little things to help that you know to impact winning and uh you know that in in this era of basketball where the little things are so thoroughly valued you know it it requires um you know your your front office to understand those little things and I think in dismantling that 2019 2020 team and I I think completely overreacting to um the the series loss against the Suns where the reason they lost that series was because Anthony Davis was hurt and tired um rather than any problem with the the roster itself in my opinion um those overreactions happen when you value certain things that um you know the rest of the league doesn’t you know and you look at all the combo guards that Rob pinka has brought in he use combo guards the rest of the league just doesn’t really value combo guards it values size on the perimeter switchability on defense um efficiency not needing to take a couple dribbles uh to be effective those are the things that smart teams build around on the perimeter and and that allows more time for their star to spend on the ball and and I think you know with with where the Lakers kind of find themselves and have found themselves over the last few years where it’s been this clown car of combo guards that’s that’s a that’s a raw pinka problem that’s that’s not in anybody else problem and then um not being able to salary dump Jaylen Hino and Max Lewis over the week over the uh over the off season to be able to keep Spencer Den witty and Tori and Prince um I would need to look at the money to see you know how much those guys because you know Tori and Prince Spencer dwy have been in the league for a lot longer and they for their veteran minimum salaries are are more expensive than Max Lewis’s um I I get the sense that the Lakers you know kind of wanted to wipe the Slate clean of the you know Darin ham guys and I think uh you know torian Prince was very much that but look they also didn’t dump cam reddish either the thing is the Lakers don’t have very much in terms of draft assets and because of that I think sometimes overvalue their own um and they don’t take into account that like you can just ask for second rounders back in return in some of these trades um and or you could put like protections on the second rounders that you send out so that it isn’t you know like a straightup salary dumped second rounder um but look like you know the the Denver Nuggets even while I say all of that the Denver Nuggets over the offseason salary dumped Reggie Jackson that cost them three second rounders to be able to do that and that might limit their ability to do anything in the in the trade market now so but I still think it was a mistake to not do anything at the bottom of the roster um and and not you know there are just too many players down there Max Lewis bronny uh like you can have a bronny on your roster if he is your 15th guy or if he is never expected to play and there’s and he’s the only player who is just never expected to play but the Lakers also have Max Lewis they also have Cam reddish they also have um you know Christian Wood and and Jackson Hayes and all these minimum signings that they like their their hit rate on their minimum signings is is below average and I think that’s really kind of hurting them and that’s something that they’re GNA have to improve on in this new CBA that really limits especially like so long as Genie is the owner and she is absolutely against going into the second apron um that means that the Lakers have to be that much more effective with this with the tools that they use while they stay under that second apron but um the last part of that question uh the Kobe part uh I feel kind of uncomfortable you know like judging a guy against what his like dead bre best friend would say about the job that he’s doing um like if I if if I just ignore that aspect of it obviously like Kobe would probably have some stuff to say the part of it that I here the part of it that that bothers me more so than like you know what Kobe thinks about the job is that that pinka is doing is we saw at the end of Kobe’s career the lake ERS go For Broke to try to give him one more opportunity at a championship and like I know Kobe means more to the organization and more to the fan base than LeBron does in terms of like Lakers lore but also like LeBron by the time he retires and he’s going to retire as a Laker by the time he retires he’s probably going to have spent eight nine years as a Laker he’s going to finish his career spending more time as a Laker than he did as a Miami Heat obviously the two stints in and Cleveland add up together uh to to be more time than than he has spent in LA but he has been a lot more patient and a lot more quiet with the Lakers than he was at any point while he was in Cleveland um he’s going to get his jersey retired he’s going to get a statue too because he won a championship with the Lakers and the Lakers just kind of like riding out or potentially just riding out the end of LeBron’s tenure or riding out to this point actually riding out his prime um while he was clearly good enough to win another championship like they wouldn’t have done that with with Kobe and that’s the part of it that that like really frustrates me is how selective they’ve been you know with with the LeBron James era on well we’re not good enough to to win a championship or you know it’s too far to get to like no like then then compete you know the way that the Lakers haven’t competed during this LeBron tenure or era um that part is is I think something that that Kobe would have something to say about like y’all you guys have a Mount Rushmore player in your organization and he has extended his Prime and given you guys the opportunity to you know help him get to higher highs than you guys have reached since winning that Championship um and again they won that Championship um with a lot of circumstantial abnormalities um and anyway so like they that that is the like the not competing part of it and the sitting out of of transaction windows and um the inactivity over now the last year or so year and some change almost two years um that is the part that I think Kobe would be like look you can make mistakes you can pull the trigger and Miss but what I’m not going to respect is the cowardice that we’ve seen over the last couple of years of well what if we pull the trigger and then miss what what if I what if I make one more decision here and it cost me my job like that’s the part of it that I think Kobe would would wouldn’t respect all right um let’s go with um whatever is going on uh elsewhere and let’s see so we got um a couple St comments which means I get to start with this bad [Music] boy all right the first comment here comes from custodian Lexus King who writes Anthony a duas is this team um worth trading is this team worth trading both first and second round picks can we realistically win the chip um all right so Spanish is this person’s first language uh so you know is this team worth trading for it to salvage is the question I think so I think it’s pretty clearly worthy of of competition um do I think that there are realistic trades that can help the Lakers LeapFrog the Celtics and the Thunder and make them outright Championship favorites no but do I think that there are moves that the Lakers could make that could make them a tough matchup for anybody in the league and and give LeBron James and Anthony Davis an opportunity to win any playoff series that they you know uh look forward to I definitely think so the new CBA is basically forcing teams to be more mediocre and like yeah the the Celtics are so far above the second apron that they kind of serve as a as as um an exemption to this new CBA but like I would want like speaking just as a fan I would want the Lakers to basically like position themselves in the Western Conference as at the very least a really tough out and then uh hope that like you know with the way that Giannis is playing so far this season with the way that he and Dame have finally started to look together maybe they knock off the Celtics or um if the Celtics do get to the to the NBA finals they’ll have played enough tough competition that they’re worn down by the time uh the Lakers see them in the championship if the Lakers were able to get there that’s what I think the goal should be going into you know as we get closer and closer and closer to trade season um and I I think that’s very realistic so I do think that the Lakers are are close enough to that that it’s worth investing first and second round picks for and the other thing too is like one thing that I think front offices now get away with is there’s like too many shows that tell fans oh well we got to think about the future we got to think about the future we gotta think no it’s not our job to think about the future not when you have LeBron James and Anthony Davis it’s one thing if you’re like if you’re the Sacramento Kings and they clearly like are not good enough to win a championship and that core is is not good enough nor has it ever proven that it’s anywhere close to good enough to win a championship like if that is with that being the case for the Sacramento Kings okay if you’re hosting a Sacramento King show you should probably talk to your audience about valuing the future but with it being a Lakers show and the the core of the Lakers is a still relatively in his prime uh LeBron James and a um absolutely in his prime Anthony Davis um that is a team that should not should not be uh thinking about their future uh should not be caring about their future the only people who should be distant distantly thinking about the Lakers future is like Rob and there’s there’s a like 30% chance he’s not even the GM of the Lakers by the time that we’re talking about the post LeBron future so I I I personally maybe not 30 maybe like 20 um like I I think like this this notion of like well you know if the Lakers go all in and it doesn’t work out like okay if they go all in and it doesn’t work out then sometimes that’s how it goes but we know how it’s going to go if they don’t go all in if they don’t push more chips into the middle of the table will just sit here mire to mediocrity this era will end and then the same front office that squandered LeBron James and Anthony Davis since 2019 and 2020 will be in charge of a rebuild and like what what do you think that’s going to look like I don’t want any part of that I don’t want to like rush to that I would rather maximize this window and whenever it hurts it’s going to hurt but it’s it’s still going to hurt rebuilds like there’s no fun rebuild unless you’re you get really really lucky um but the Lakers like so long as LeBron and Anthony Davis are there aren’t going to be bad enough to be at the very top of the draft so it’s like no maximize this window push those chips into the middle of the table and then whenever you get to the the whenever you get to the rebuild you get to the rebuild and and and you see what that looks like Ry guy asks uh the Lakers are currently fifth with a a couple winable games they need a trade Suns wolves Etc all struggling Rob no excuses invest now no more prove it yeah I think the notion of like yeah we you know we need LeBron and AD to like prove that they are worth investing into at it’s been but it’s definitely now it’s abs like this western conference is wide open um even the Thunder who we thought might be a buzz saw they got their butts kicked by the Milwaukee Bucks um the the Dallas Mavericks statistically look like a team that that might be a sleeping D dragon or whatever um but even they like there are questions about their defense in in the in the right situations or in their case the wrong ones um in this wideopen Western Conference I I think it’s I like I’ve been pretty sure over the course of the Season that they should you know really invest um but now definitely having seen it in practice and as the data sample gets bigger and bigger and bigger that indicate that the West is is pretty mediocre and the league is now by Design mediocre everybody has a chance the Lakers need to give themselves the best one they can all right let’s go into uh Discord um the designated hater asked uh when do you think think we can realistically expect a trade probably not till January at the very earliest I would say um like Rob had said going into the season that they wanted to see 30 Games before they made any you know big changes to the roster that 30th game I believe is on Christmas so um I I think we’re we’re you know at least going to wait till then and then after Christmas I would imagine you know Rob is going to you know we’ll get leaks of well you know we’re close enough to Jared Vanderbilt’s return date that we want to see what it looks like whenever he gets back and um we’re close enough to Jackson Hayes and Christian Wood’s return rate uh date and we would like to see what the roster looks like when they get back and hopefully they get back on schedule so you know we should actually um it’s I’m recording this on December 22nd January 1st is like a week and a half away so we’re a couple weeks away from from jar Vanderbilt like at least the next update for V and uh depending on what that update is I think that’ll that’ll kind of determine uh the the urgency with which the Lakers make a trade uh Jay dot asked this a while ago sorry it’s uh taking it took so long to get to it hey Anthony La um in ‘ 089 the Lakers were able to trade for guys like Trevor Rez and Shannon Brown what are your thoughts on executing those types of Trades first before we uh before going into executing a possible bigger DLo and ruy trade after while everyone seems to be enamored with the bigger trades on the trade machine myself included it’s trades like getting a Reon and brown that fly under the radar but are so crucial to building a championship team well like to be honest those trades should have been done already those are the trades that you do in the runup to a season like that those kinds of Trades are the like they should have done versions of those trades back in the summer um they should have done versions of those those trades you know at last year’s trade deadline so that they would have a better understanding of of what the team would actually need after those kinds of Trades um I I do think like we got the ruy trade uh not last deadline but the one before um in late January I think it’s probable that we would get a like something like that um in like mid January mid to late January and then uh I would say you know the the the bigger deals will take a little bit longer to to to figure out but yeah I’m with you like one of the things that’s really dri driven me crazy watching Raw pinka work is um this this notion that like every move has to be this home run when every good baseball team has guys that just get on base and every big inning starts with a walk here and there a single or an error right the the the kind of World Series deciding game started with Aaron judge fumbling that ball in center field and I think uh the Lakers need to get guys on ba base so that when they do finally make that big home run swing if they do connect on that home run swing now all of a sudden you’re talking about a much bigger inning than uh than than you know we’re thinking it could be right now so yeah get like this this uh Championship orust mentality when it comes to trades has really gotten the Lakers in trouble and yeah those those you know I remember the Shannon Brown the Shannon Brown trade especially remember it was it wasn’t originally the Shannon Brown trade it was the Adam Morrison trade Adam Morrison was the much bigger name attached in that trade Brown was just kind of a throwin and I remember um that first game he had that block that like you know the meme the meme of like Lamar odm everybody on the bench going like and Lamar’s like w you know like that was them all looking up at the um scoreboard at the replay of Shannon Brown’s block against the Atlanta Hawks now that was called a foul one of the worst calls I have ever seen um but like I remember watching that I was like damn somebody could do that um like give me more athleticism like that and uh then on top of it he wound up be becoming like an okay three-point shooter there for the Lakers um let Shannon dunk was a travesty that was unfortunate but yeah that that Shannon Brown Shannon Shannon Brown trade like that’s the kind of thing that happens when you open yourself up to the idea of just getting guys on base just like just you know uh valuing moves Trevor arza man I remember where I was specifically for the Trevor ARA trade um I was sitting in my living room they had traded Brian Cook um I believe for um and I think Mo Evans it was like Trevor Trevor came over from Orlando um he was a UCLA product I’m a UCLA fan so I remember like liking arza coming out of the draft and then uh Mo Evans was like an okay like below average Laker Brian was one of my least favorite Lakers of all time and they they I was just thrilled that I didn’t have to watch Brian Cook play anymore and then I watched some highlights of what Trevor was doing there in Orlando I was like oh little more athleticism little more speed and then you know you had uh you had that you know that that influx of athleticism and speed that came in the form of shev Shannon Brown and Trevor orza orza made those huge steals over the course of those playoffs as the Lakers won that Championship eventually over Orlando um it was great it those those those are yeah you’re absolutely right to point out that those those smaller trades um that that you know hit on the on the margins um allow for you to compound the the bigger trades that you eventually make and those are the kinds of things like even ruy like ruy as as a late January acquisition great trade like do it again just keep on like you did it once let’s let’s keep on let’s you know keep on doing it uh let’s see I think that is yeah I think oh tuno crazy asked uh the front office is marketed Braun ad and uh Austin Reeves he calls him hillbilly Kobe here as our big three Rob even said hillbilly Kobe would have a Brunson likee leap this season is this view impacting the type of players that they’re looking to trade for as an example uh not looking to trade for Vu because that would push uh Austin Reeves down the list on offense um I don’t so yes and no uh to quote Darius yes in the sense that like the Lakers are being careful with the kind of point guard that they acquire because they still want Austin on the ball um no in the sense of like I don’t think they care that Austin is still their like third best player you that that what they care more about is that everybody kind of falls into the right position um across their roster and in eventually rotation um all right I think that is going to do it here uh we’ll go with yeah Brian Fritz uh if this team could add cam Johnson and Walker Kesler I think they have a real chance to win the West absolutely absolutely I don’t know if they’d be able to get like CBA wise I think they would be able to add both I don’t know if they have enough assets to be able to add both but no that 100% C Westwood writes uh C would be a solid addition if they don’t trade ruy to get him uh move ruy to the bench more depth to help LeBron stay fresh more size um would equal that that Lakers championship blueprint um yeah all of those like those those kinds of um those kinds of trades right that that like just either typically the the the best trades are the ones that push guys down the rotation and allow them to slot into roles that have a bit fewer responsibilities that they can now flourish in I I think that’s um that’s kind of the the the notion of the the question a couple questions ago for for and and I think that’s a kind of goal that the Lakers should set for themselves all right that is going to do it here for this episode of the Lakers Lounge podcast I have a Lowdown coming for you guys a little bit later as well uh that will run um at midnight um Pacific time yeah um and then I’ll break this up into the normal couple parts as well as the full episode there as well so you can find all of that on the Lakers Lounge RSS feed wherever it is at you get Podcast preferably on Odyssey and then uh yeah we as we now when we get into the holiday season here the Lakers play late Monday night so we’ll have a post game for late Monday night um we have uh another uh big we’ll have a guest I think for Tuesday I think that’ll be Harrison that’ll be a Harrison day um and then Wednesday is Christmas so I don’t think we’ll like unless something crazy happens in that Golden State game um my plan is to take Christmas off and be with my family but you know we’ll see how that goes and then the day after Christmas um probably have a a day to either recap that Christmas Day game or just you know chat amongst ourselves and then that will do it for for this week’s episodes so until then and until the next time you guys hear from me I’m Anthony Irwin saying have a great rest of your day make somebody else’s and I will talk to you guys tomorrow have a good one everybody [Music] bye everyone
