what’s up Leaf Nation welcome back to another game preview I’m Zach Phillips and today we’re going to be taking a look at game number 35 of the Tron map Leafs regular season uh as they kicked this one off for the afternoon game the what is it called Next Gen I was going to call it gen z i Gen X and that I couldn’t figure it out I think his next gen game here today against the Winnipeg Jets puck drop at 2 pm. eastern time we’ll dig into the lines a little bit but most importantly we’ll get into our best bet given that we’re not really going to find much out about who’s with who if there’s any changes who’s in who’s out until game time especially given the comments made by Craig Brew earlier today talking about a lot of guys are actually game time decisions I don’t even know who those guys are right now I tried to do some digging around poking around to whatever people I could to find out and help us find out for this game preview show and basically everybody was like we don’t know so lots of questions in the air as per who’s going who’s not here tonight who is the game time decisions what the lines may actually look like from the moment I’m recording this 45 minutes before the go to the first thing here uh for today and it’s the one area where it’s kind of actually the most up in the air and that would be the lineup for tonight and starting with your first line Matthew n David Camp William neander now what you’ll notice here is this is mostly how things finished the other night against the New York Islanders uh at least in terms of a breakout here uh with a couple of swaps so n camp neander um uh lines are interesting here today I I’m not really sure what to make of this so David Camp don’t like him in the top six I I I mean honestly I’m not trying to be negative but I do have a negative Viewpoint of today’s lineup maybe it’s just trying to match up with Winnipeg and brew and and Co feel that this is the best way to take them on I’m not entirely sure but David Camp is kind of a black hole for offense in the top six now the only thing that I would push back on and say hey here’s your counter point the counter punch to all this and the one guy who can make this happen and kind of find ways to navigate around it would be uh William naner that guy seems to be able to find offense no matter what role he’s playing no matter who he’s playing against or no matter who he’s playing with so maybe bre was like well David Camp kind of just sucks offense way but William neener he can create it out well here so that’s fine that’s the first line uh n and neander probably a good pairing to go together I’m fine with that one David Camp interesting now we go to the next spot Bobby McMahon John taras Mitch mner look I think Bobby McMahon has been playing incredibly uh I think that he has been a catalyst for offense on that third line This is Where I don’t understand why you would change it um I get that he’s deserving of playing in the top six at least just based on his play over the last little while but I feel like there’s a couple of factors to this one is the drive of playing on that third line and and saying hey look at me let’s go here I I I was given a top six opportunity I can do that and you kind of put him in there and he gets a little bit hungry the other part of it is I think he was playing well with domian Robertson I think they were benefiting from his play I think he was benefiting from there he’s he gets a premier playmaker and Max doy with them you got a guy who can finish on the other side and Nick Robertson a guy who can shoot the puck and be a goal scorer and then Bobby McMahon is the hardnose four checking power forward who gets in there can go on the rush can get in there on the for check can hit guys finish checks win cycle and battles down below the goal lines and on the board like Bobby McMahon was just the perfect compliment to that line and they were having a ton of success now will lend at least at least just on what we’re seeing and mind you we may see something different by the time the puck drops but what we see on daily face off right now is a swap Bobby McMahon on the second line Max Patti on the third this also I don’t really fully understand because yeah you put Marner with JT there which is different from what you had with Willie but patet and TOA seem to have built some chemistry together so now you’re breaking them up them up I don’t know if this is a little kick to Patti to tell him to get going but he scored the other day against Buffalo so it’s not like he’s been off the board for a long period of time physical pre presence moving his feet well getting in on the for check yet again like these are all cliches I get it but it’s the right things it’s the little things it’s things that help you win hockey games he’s doing them and he looks good beside John Taris now down to the third line not entirely sure how that one shakes out uh the fourth line here tonight Steven luren Connor der and Ryan Reeves if you’re ever going to get a night here for Ryan Reeves to go and get some excitement maybe it’s today because afternoon game kids will be riled up Ryan Reeves goes to fight somebody the whole building might go nuts you’re going to get little kids taking their shirts off swinging them in the air going screaming fight fight fight maybe Ryan Reeves gets the building into it that way here tonight against the Jets team who loves playing Toronto that’s their big thing that they always get clowned for there because comments that were made a few years ago I I don’t know uh this fourth line is going to have to be punishing physically tonight because the Jets are a bigger heavier team who can kind of take control of a game in that way so that will be uh that will be an interesting one as per our forward lines that’s what we’ve got here tonight at least right now and I want to keep in mind that these things could change ahead of game time for our defense here tonight this is what we’ve gotten we talked about this the other day but uh Morgan Riley Connor timman first pair egman LaRon Chris tanv uh second Simone vanell Jake McCay now this is where you go again with having these pairings where someone is just off uh ecan Larson tanv great I’m in Ben Juan mccab they played well together uh last year they had looked good brought beno’s game up like we saw this Balancing Act we saw a good compliment to Beno now here’s where the problem is Morgan Riley and Conor Timmons not really a fan of this one Connor Timmons I thought struggled the other night I think he’s kind of hit a lull in his play here over the last week and a half and alongside Morgan Riley who I mean I’m not trying to say this as a knock I I I think he’s been fine but the reason that we come on here and have comments to make about Morgan Riley postgame is because he’s seven and A5 million and you can’t really be fine for $7.5 million you need to make an impact like I look at our situation compared to say maybe Edmonton where you’re paying Darnell nurse uh way more money than Morgan Riley yeah I would be in a panic if we were paying him that because that can be a major detriment to your team when your guy is kind of causing problems that way whereas Morgan Riley is just kind of out there which is fine we can get by with but you don’t want to get by at $7.5 million and alongside Conor Timmons I don’t think he helps Timmons I don’t think Timmons helps him this is not my favorite beiring I’ve seen these guys put out there here’s what we’ve got for your power play units tonight back to where we were with uh we still got the the defenseman Morgan Riley out there no more fan five forward units I didn’t like that but William naner Jun ver Mitch Marner Matthew n fills in Austin Matthews obviously won’t go here today Morgan Riley is going to be the defenseman out there with this unit and then the second power play unit of what we’ve got tonight Bobby McMahon Max doy Max petti Nick Robertson Ekman Lon I like putting this third line together and giving them an opportunity to uh well a third line of the past couple of games give them an opportunity to get things going on the power play I think the power play is kind of stunk the process is stunk there’s a chance here that this third line who’s been rocking offensively can actually create and get themselves on the board here maybe be a little bit more free flowing have some fun maybe a bit of excitement in their game and they can produce tonight so that’s what I’m looking for from the power play unit here tonight for this Maple Leafs team again a lot of it is going to be processed the other night I know people are going to come here and say what are you talking about they went one for three like that’s fine 33% on a night yeah that’s fine but if you watched it and how it broke out the power play did not look that great they did not look that dangerous and that is where the concern comes for me like that is what happens when I look at this group and I say oo I don’t think that they generated that much they kind of were just able to capitalize on a mistake by Buffalo you didn’t create that chance and that is where the frustration starts to set in where I sit here and I look at it and say I need more I need them to be a more dangerous group out goal scorer section and we’re going to go back to a guy who actually cashed for us the other day at plus 500 and we’re going to hit him at a little bit of a bigger number today at plus 550 and that would be Nick Robertson anytime goal scorer I’m going to ride off of the hotline that we’ve just generated it’s not just the hot hand anymore it’s DOI and Robertson and McMahon had all been playing really well together I know Bobby McMahon swaps out of this line um I’m interested to see what Patti does because I feel like he can kind of do what Bobby like the Bobby McMahon role here I don’t know how chemistry is going to work if it’s going to be the same but if it’s not the same the other aspect that I would look to for Nick Robertson to be able to score is that second unit power play that I alluded to I think Buu will be kind kind of quick on the on the trigger here if these guys aren’t going then switch them up switch them up like get them out get the second unit a chance especially when they’ve been this hot offensively so Nick Robertson at plus 550 we’re going to go a quarter unit $25 on this one profits you 137.5 on the night I just think that this is a chance here for Nick Robertson to continue to go into the Christmas break off of a nice little uh nice little streak he’s going things are going well he’s scoring maybe you go into the Christmas break and say hey look at me maybe I deserve a little bit more of an opportunity I don’t I don’t think he fits in the top six here but I I feel like he should maybe start to accept the fact that he could just be a guy who’s an extremely impactful third line player here on this Maple leafes team regardless I feel like he’s going to be a little bit frustrated and want to score goals want to look over at Bobby McMahon and say oh that guy got the tap and I didn’t I’ll show you hopefully that’s the case cuz if not then we’re going to come back herea and say well we lost the quarter unit on Nick Robertson who just put himself to sleep because he was frustrated which I don’t think will be the case and I hope won’t be the case but that’s your bet tonight Nick Robertson anytime goal plus 550 quarter unit $25 on that one does
