meetings a couple of days before the Christmas holiday Jeff passon has assured us no Corbin Burns no Alex bregman before that holiday we shall see but Robert Murray and I are here prepared to answer your questions fill you in on what’s happened since we last spoke and get to the bottom of some of the latest Rumblings in the rer mill Robert thank you for joining me fanid is MLB Insider Robert Murray co-host on the show as always in his native Wisconsin uh Robert how you doing dude I’m great man I’m in Wisconsin it took me two days and 26 hours to uh to get to Wisconsin through car but I made it here Cooper is here as well uh he is sound asleep upstairs much like all of your GMS so that’s always good but it feels good to be back feels good to be on the show uh got lots to talk about and uh yeah how you doing Adam I’m good uh biscuit also sound asleep in the room next door could not be more asleep I checked in on him before I went in here uh to podcast in my podcast closet and I was like damn that guy’s asleep that’s crazy uh yeah shout out uh to the comments rip Carolina Mudcats 2025 is of course the final year of the Mudcats on the horizon so we are paying proper tribute it’s back uh Robert uh thanks for joining me on a a pivotal week especially for the Yankees and cubs I would say the two sides were locked on a Cody Bellinger deal seemingly forever those trade talks lasted we did a couple yank goyard podcasts that were like still sounds close it’s sounded close for 19 days I don’t know what we’re doing here but they finish it off only5 million Chang his hands Cody potit goes to the Cubs as well Cody Bellinger does seem like a player who will play Up in a New York Yankees uniform and that is a hefty price to pay on the old payroll but a small price to pay in terms of Pros effect cost uh Brian Catman yesterday at the max free press conference hinted that the Cubs had set Tuesday as a deadline and Bellinger was definitely getting dealt to one of two teams that day uh any insight on the process and how the Yankees made out pretty well here uh although everyone please stop sharing those Graphics that say the Yankees are paying 45 million for these three players while the Mets are paying 55 million for Juan sto it doesn’t make the point you’re trying to make Juan stto is still the best player in that graphic oh he’s he’s by far the best player in those graphics for sure you’re not wrong about that but as far as this trade goes it was definitely a salary dump by the Cubs and they they were there was strong indications they were likely going to move on from them throughout the entire off season and at one point last week I thought it was I thought it was happening or I thought it was close to happening but the process dragged out and as Cashman said there was there was other teams involved I know the Giants checked in at one point but I don’t think it was anything necessarily like more than that um the Blue Jays had interest as John Haymon said but the Yankees always made the most sense here and as far they could take on the money from his contract uh they did not have to give up much in the terms of prospects to facilitate the trade and he instantly I mean they’re leaving his position open as far as where he’s going to eventually play but you have to figure most of his time is going to be in center field and that makes plenty of sense because it moves judge out of center field and puts him back in right field where he’s at his best and it is going to a much more effective Outfield while also prolonging judge’s career and Bellinger in that in that ballpark figures to do very well so I think that’s a fit that just made a lot of sense for all parties involved um and it’s it’s it improves the yankees’ lineup post W sto they are not done by any means they continue to be active on the market um they can there’s a lot of different things they can do I would expect Cashman to continue to to bolster the roster I do not expect him to go into hibernation anytime soon uh good news for Yankees fans there as far as the Cubs Go I I want to I want to Pivot on this real quick and then I I got to address the slander in in the comments here for the things behind me um but uh the the Cubs it’s frustrating that they have to do this or that they felt like they had to do this because the Cubs are a big Market team they um they should not be operating by pinching pennies or shedding perel I know Bellinger’s salary is is higher than they would have preferred but he’s still an effective player he’s a good Clubhouse guy they really liked him in Chicago um and it’s just unfortunate but they I am under the impression they will use the money save from this trade to invest back into the roster and they can address numerous different positions I know they’re looking at the rotation they’re looking at the Bullpen obviously they could use some more bats alongside Kyle Tucker like there’s a lot for them to do um but these two teams always made the most sense for each other in terms of a trade and that’s how we got here today and uh the overlap in the stadium overlay of Bellinger at Yankee Stadium I mean again I’ve been sort of the anti- Bellinger guy for quite a while uh I will welcome him with open arms to Yankee Stadium like the Cubs welcoming Samy Sosa back to Cubs conon and that is my pledge uh now the Yankees next steps I think a lot of fans have been sort of on high alert for first base help this week especially because um we all saw the Paul goldmit gifts we saw those floating around after uh the B deal became official that the Yankees did call it fake news the report that Bellinger would be stationed in center field for sure so it does seem like he’s going to be flexible but I would still be willing to bet on a first base option being next for the Yankees do you have any insight into that search yeah as far as the as far as the first baseman search goes they can look in a bunch of different directions they they’ve had theyve had interest in Paul goldmit that is a player that they do like um as far as the Yankees go they have had talks with Christian Walker’s Camp it was like that was a I heard that buzz at the at the winter meetings that those two sides were were talking um but the reports of him being a deal being imminent or just being close at the at the winter meetings were greatly exaggerated nothing has ever been close with the Yankees and Christian Walker they do like him but as it just nothing close there at that point um they’ve had conver they had uh I saw John Heyman mention Pete Alonzo’s name with the Yankees um but I would imagine a reunion with the Mets or just going elsewhere would appear more likely because I can’t imagine the Yankees are going to be in a hurry to give out a a long-term contract there so those are the names that I’m watching they they remain looking for for Bullpen help they they’re looking for a bunch of different things I also would imagine a Marcus strowman trade would appear more likely than not um but those are the names that I’ve heard the most as far as the Yankees as first base search goes yeah too bad strowman of the Cubs made no sense unfortunately barl uh would have been helpful would have been a fun little one for one but we’ll give him Cody potit let’s see how Cody potit Cubs career goes in the aftermath Alonzo popped up the Yankees were the favorites for Alonzo and some sort of weird sports book odds that I saw circulated this morning and I would agree with you that makes little to no sense to me uh for much the same reason that I don’t think they’re going seven years on Alex bregman but we’ll we’ll see no and also another part of this too is is if you look at a bregman type you look at um a Christian Walker type they have the qualifying offers best they have the qualifying offers attached to them which could hinder the chances of of them pursuing them which I think makes gold Schmid a more intriguing option I’m sure having another aging first baseman is not exactly the thing that the Yankees fans want to hear hear right now uh but he would be an upgrade over Anthony Rizzo there um I think he’d be a really good addition I think him being in um in New York in that ballpark would be a good thing for him so um we’ll see but yeah they’ve got plenty of options to consider here a gold Schmid fan for the Yankees although I reserve judgment if he has a 612 Ops on May 24th I’ll come on this podcast saying I was wrong and that guy sucks but we’ll see we certainly will see I think it’s a nice fit if it does get finalized got a super chat from Canyon uh who unfortunately makes me wants me to make more Tik toks and show biscuit in those Tik toks I can do that I can work on that I can make that a stretch goal for 2025 especially as we come on the New Year try to become new people I can obviously work on incorporating biscuit more into those videos uh but he wants us to talk about the Pirates and I think plenty of our viewers do want us to talk about the Pirates we did a pirates Centric show on Monday and at that point uh the thought was I I wonder how much of that money gets reinvested in the roster we even talked about gold Schmid as a pirates fit uh so curious what Pittsburgh might be up to and again uh I know we’ve touched on this in recent shows but the Jared Jones rumors the Mitch Keller rumors I think for pirates fans sake that those guys are staying put right I I would absolutely imagine they stay put like when and as far as those rumors go my understanding is it’s more listening than it is shopping and I don’t they’re not shopping either player they’re listening and in case they’re Blown Away with an offer um I mean that’s it doesn’t it doesn’t hurt to listen but I would fully anticipate them being Pirates going forward uh unless something just drastically changes there um as far as what the remainder of their offseason looks like they are continuing to like examine the market for B offense was their big issue last year and adding some reinforcements there would be a very wise move I know before they acquired Spencer Horwitz they did have conversations with the Guardians about uh Josh Naylor uh but nothing ever came about there obviously um but they’re continuing to look for bats I would expect them to add another bat maybe two um but as I’ve said all offseason they have very limited Financial Resources here like they’re they do not have much room to operate um so that it’s going to force Ben shington in that front office to as I like to say get creative um because they just they they can’t go out and get a big name like a gold Schmid or anything like that I think those guys will be like out of their price range yes very creative uh time to experiment with watercolors again experiment with video editing maybe put biscuit in your videos again creativity the name of the game whether you are me on Tik toac the Pirates front office for 2025 so we’ll we’ll keep that in mind thank you for the Super Chat of course uh priority responses go to our discords from the allstar Channel but we’re going to get to as many questions from there and from the comment section as we possibly can by end of show we’re going to head to the notebook and questions in a little bit but Nolan arado the name on everybody’s lips the uh non- Yankee trending breaking news from the most recent couple of days uh deal to the Astros got pretty close I even saw rumors saying it was at the one yard line but it was spiked there on his no trade list so it makes sense uh rumors out there that they’re willing to revisit this later in the off season I guess if Aeron believes in the Astros later moves or if the Astros still have interest after they continue building their roster they could Circle back but that just sounds like pleasantries to me because most of the Astros future plans involve filling Third Base either with Aeron or Alex bregman I’m not sure why you’d Circle back after the Astros fleshed out the roster a little more but thoughts on the aado situation and does this open the door for bregman return or does this insult bregman because they were willing to pay $60 million Aron’s deal but can’t get to seven years for him no it’s it’s it’s a great question and as far as this goes the the Cardinals have made it clear that they think and arnado trade is likely um and there’s other teams interested besides the Astros I they ended up listing a few teams I believe earlier today uh that were interested in in Aron a so it’s it’s not just the Houston Astros here by any means um but it’s it would it would seemingly eliminate one of the options here for ronado and as far as where the Astros go from here like bregman is still sitting out there he’s unsigned but if they if here’s where I’m thinking right now is um if the Astros were optimistic about retaining um Alex bregman why would they go out and get uh or try to get Nolan arado to me I mean that’s just me reading the tea leaves reading the tea leaves is what we do but their actions would seem to indicate that they are not that they’re not close to retaining bregman so they’re they’re exploring other options maybe the fact that that they’re they tried to go go out and get arnado makes them move or makes bregman shake a little bit and makes it but I I don’t know I have not heard anything there to suggest that’s happening um but now that arnado has has turned down a trade to Houston maybe he changes his mind but now that he’s turned it down uh he’s gonna they’re gonna have to go out and evaluate some other options and I’m not sure exactly what options they’re considering at this point but bregman’s still out there so who knows but um he was their number one priority this offseason but they just have not lined up on money yet and they are considering options to make him shake so clearly they’re on sep Pages at this point in time we’ll have to keep you posted on whether or not bregman starts shaking over the holidays uh rumor from Jeff passon has mentioned earlier is that bregman and burns both won’t get done until sometime after Christmas so enjoy your Coco and your Nog and we’ll we’ll go live when we do have information there but it looks like nothing imminent uh we’ll see if the Aeron a spike changes uh Spike like my delicious eggnog changes uh the proceedings at all uh additionally cing back to the Cubs a little bit uh it seems like Bruce LaVine reported this I believe we were close or we were we felt like we were getting close on a Jesus Lardo trade and it felt like something we were going to discuss on this show as breaking in the Cubs Direction and The the deal appears to have fallen apart uh broken entirely uh any insight into this process or thoughts on potential pivots for Chicago yeah this was one I that was put on my radar about five or six days ago and the Cubs had been doing homework on Lardo they really really really liked him they still like him um but as Bruce said like the talks have have stalled um I don’t necessarily know if they’re going to end up picking up or where things stand as of this point but he was he was somebody who was of strong interest to the Cubs and his if you look at it it’s a it’s a tricky one here because obviously he’s signed uh for the next couple years he is one healthy one of the best um left-handed pitchers in the game but he struggled with with health recently missed a lot of time last year with a stress fracture I believe or stress reaction in his back last year and it’s he’s had a hard time staying staying healthy and who knows exactly if that was a hold up or if they just didn’t line up on prospects or anything um but with Lardo now put to the side I would firmly expect the Cubs to continue evaluating the the starting pitching Market they they are I believe adamant about adding another starting pitcher they want to add a reliever um and there’s still some very good relief options out there and the thing is with those guys linger is that they can get um they can possibly get those guys for a good value because you have Estes you have Tanner Scott uh Jeff Hoffman always always getting interest as a starting pitcher um and there’s numerous different options that are out there so it’s there’s no shortage of options for the Cubs to consider here and with the money saved from that Bellinger trade I firmly expect them to use all that or most of it uh to put it back into the roster every reliever getting interest as a starter this offseason not just Jeff Hoffman Mike Soka is officially going to go into Nats Camp as a starter as well this broke just a couple of minutes before this show began so that’s the that’s the deer thing clay Holmes let’s see how can you do six Innings clay Holmes we’ll see what you got starting pitching price at a premium might as well take your seventh inning guy and see if you could stretch them out again and we’ll see what the Cubs are able to get done as the market moves um anything else in your notebook that we have not touched on then I’ll go to a couple comments and I do see another Super Chat here so I’ll head there afterwards as well yeah the the one thing I wanted to touch on was my sioka going to the Washington Nationals and as I as I reported um he is going to be a starting pitcher there he signed for 9 million bucks he had a very strong Market um and the one thing that was pointed out to me throughout this entire process is that um I want to make sure I get this right is he was he was using an when he was a starting pitcher for the for the white socks he was using the Arsenal that they made him use um and he had some really poor numbers with the white socks as a starting pitcher then he eventually got moved to the bullpen and they allowed him to use the Arsenal that he wanted and specifically um his for seamer which is his real effective pitch it has rise on it and as soon as he ended up using the Arsenal that he wanted um he had a lot of success the pitch that he really struggled with and the rotation that they really wanted him to use was the two seamer and that got him in trouble um but he’s Soka is optimistic that once or now that he’s going to be in Washington as a starting pitcher and he’ll be able to use the Arsenal that he wants that he’s going to end up getting back on track in the form that he was in Atlanta before all of his injuries so uh 9 million may seem like a lot but and i’ I’ve even had some people text me during the show asking me nine million for Soka yes indeed um the Nationals really liked him uh he believes that the Best Is Yet To Come clearly the Nationals think that there’s something there as well and here we are today now with Soka going to Washington yeah no two seamers man don’t do that not don’t don’t rest on your laurels now you got that nine million start messing around with the two seamer again excited for this aoka comeback obviously somebody who found a lot of success last year in a different role no for sure and like in Soka too like he had he had a lot of success with his T seamer when he was in Atlanta before all the injuries and with his old mechanics but now that he switched up his mechanics and like post injury now it’s not as effective as it once was so it’s just I think I think this Union here is going to be for the best for him and if he’s able to end up having a really good year here um this could end up being um a pretty good pairing that ends up getting him a long-term contract somewhere else next year still with Washington yeah still just 27 years old and that Nat’s team is definitely ascending a bit so they’re looking for their pitching pieces to pair with all these ridiculous kids who are coming up the year of Dylan Cruz 2025 probably um gonna head to uh get ahead to the Super Chat first then open up the comments uh and I see you Red Sox fans we’ll get to you as well but Coupe uh wants to know about the money saved by trading Andreas Jimenez any word on what Cleveland is doing with that any free agent Buzz there it does seem like a lot of the Cleveland Buzz is trading away more pieces rather than reinvesting some of that saved money and the thought process upon trading Jimenez was there were even you know notes saying they were worried that he’d continue to regress offensively and they didn’t want this glove only guy on their books for a while so is there any thought to reinvesting some of that money saved or was that purely just kind of worried we’re not gonna be able to get rid of this guy let’s do it now yeah I think they ended up getting they moved on from Jimenez um and if he like if he ended up struggling next or this year uh they would have had a real hard time possibly moving him so I think they were just getting ahead of it and they wanted to maximize a return there so I I understand I understood the logic there um and if you watched shows even during the or once the Guardians were um eliminated from the postseason last year and even some of these shows this off season I I’ve been pretty adamant that they that they should add a power bat to that lineup because they they need some they need some power there um I don’t necessarily know how much money they have to spend because when I when there’s been rumors on the internet about them being interested in sha manah and I checked but the feel that I got is that he’s probably going to being too expensive there uh unless his price ends up coming down um so if a guy like sha Mania might be too expensive then I don’t know what kind of bat they could end up adding to the lineup so we’ll see there but as far as what I’ve heard uh I I still think they should need to add a bat um I mean more pitching is never a bad thing you saw how dominant their Bullpen was last year um but they’ve they’ve continued to have conversations with other teams about Josh Naylor as I mentioned the Pirates were one of those before the hor witch trade we saw John morosi today right about the Mariners having conversations there and that makes sense because the Mariners need about as much offense as any team in baseball um and there’s surely going to be other teams in there as well I don’t know if that is the answer that you wanted but that is that is what I’ve got for it right now and I appreciate the Super Chat I know Adam does as well agression five good afternoon to you good sir I hope you’re having some good Gres and five time today good to see you good to see you as well yeah thank you for the Super Chat of course we do all we can answer the questions but unfortunately you know we we never know we don’t always just give good news in response to Super chats unfortunately but thank you of course uh we’ll continue to answer a few of these got some Red Sox fans and Paul delivers has asked a few times seeing people asking for Red Sox updates Paul saying it feels like more the same from the socks front office smoke and no fire I had disagree with that I mean gar crochet is fire and I would Peg the Red Sox as the likeliest team to end up with Alex bragman at the end of these sweep Stakes but obviously that might take a while and there are some other teams involved in that process but uh Robert any updates on the Red Sox as we head towards the Christmas holiday yeah I I don’t think it’s I I agree with you Adam they they’re they’re still working it’s not like they’re they’re hiberdating or sleeping or any by any means they got gar crochet they were involved um in other players as well and as as I’ve said before if if Bieber didn’t have the ties that he did to Cleveland and especially with the Comfort comfortability uh of being there during his rehab I think you’d be a Boston Red Sox um but that just that opportunity to stay in Cleveland especially with them offering the the one plus the player option at the very end um kept him in Cleveland and honestly I think kept him from going to Boston um but they they’ve continued to look um for hitters they’ve looked pitching I mean they’ve looked they’ve looked all over the place and if you look at the rest of the offseason here and the prices that are being paid to some of these guys do you really want to end up overspending on on a lot of these contracts that are going out because a lot of them are way higher than projections were and I know some as we’ve talked about just a little bit ago uh soka’s deal is higher than a lot of people expect it as well and if you’re signing players now you’re going to up having to pay top dollar and if you wait a little bit then the prices are going to be able to come down um I know that’s a frustrating thing for fans because you want players now I get it especially being a like I get it Red Sox fans like you want your your team to go out and add these reinforcements and and see the progress the crochet trade was the start I firmly expect there to be more um just remain remain patient because because Craig uh Craig brezel is cooking he’s he’s he’s cooking we’ll see exactly how the the meal turns up but he he’s he’s cooking he’s trying to at least and there yeah reports today about Executives saying breslo is the most persistent exec or Relentless I’m not sure what the term was that they used but either way insinuated that he’s being pretty he’s been the aggressor in in several different varieties of trade talks so I would say cooking for sure and crochet is a pretty nice you know main ingredient we’ll see what else he’s able to weave in there mark shimer asked for Braves updates but also reacted to us talking about the relief market and said Jeff Hoffman would be a great fit for the Braves agreed on that uh but any uh any thoughts on what the Braves have that they’re currently working on yeah the Braves are the the most secretive team in baseball yeah we we’ll never know no we honestly most Braves Braves news comes from the Braves press releases like anopolis keeps a very tight ship there uh the one thing I can confidently tell you is that they have been poking around the starting pitching market and I firmly agree with you I think Jeff boffman would be a great fit there in Atlanta um that’s something that um I wouldn’t be surprised if they were interested there at all uh especially considering the other kind of pitches that they’ve they’ve been looking at uh throughout the entire offseason but anthopolos runs a tight chip man I’m trying to find those answers out too and he does not make it easy so that is that is what I can tell you right now yeah donate your 20 bucks to the Braves Foundation I think they’ll text you the news before we get it uh but thank you for the question uh Drew obviously wants to hear about the Padres and Alex R earlier in the show asked a Padre’s question that I want to focus on who is the most likely to to be traded from those pods out of arise CE Suarez and Cronin worth all four names on the market to varying extents crony worth I haven’t heard much chatter about this offseason but CE keeps you know bubbling up and going back down like is he in Orioles fit is he staying put uh thoughts on on those four names and which is most likely to be Elsewhere on opening day well yeah that’s a good question um boy I I don’t think I don’t think they should trade any of those guys but if they do I I think it should be Dylan CE uh obviously he’s going to be he’s going to be on an expiring contract but also the starting pitching Market here is so like there’s teams are paying top dollar for starting pitchers and if you can end up uh trading cease now and getting a hall for him before he ends up becoming a free agent I think that’s something you have to consider here um this pitching Market is gonna end up allowing teams to try to take advantage of that especially if you have a surplus of starting pitching and the Padres they do have questions in the rotation especially with Joe Joe Musgrove going under undergoing surgery late last year um so I wouldn’t be in a hurry to trade ceas but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up getting an offer that they couldn’t refuse and then they they ended up trading ceas but if I was a Padres I wouldn’t trade any of those guys I think they’re all really good and um yeah it also would be really hard to trade Suarez as well because there’s so many good free agent relievers out there um that there I don’t think they would end up getting an offer that they would really like there so um that is that is my sense yeah you’re not going to be able to jump the market on that one especially as the relief Market heats up uh which brings us to George asking about Tanner Scott I mean if the relief Market is heating up where is Tanner Scott’s Market is it among the heated markets what’s what’s going on with the probably the top closer available yeah I we saw Devon Williams say the other day that he thought he was going to the Dodgers yeah in your face Dodgers yeah hey they didn’t get one of the players that they wanted or evidently they didn’t get one of the players that they wanted but um Tanner Scott to me makes a lot of sense for the Dodgers and they have interest in Tanner Scott that is no secret at this point would not be surprised if he ends up going there as well but um there’s going to be other teams in this like he is one of the best relievers in baseball he’s going to end up getting a very strong multi-year deal wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a four or even a fiveyear deal I would imagine four is probably more likely um but the dotters make a lot of sense there and um I think that fit makes a lot of sense now I will close out this show by going to Daryl Ingram here because he wants Jay’s targets and Buzz followed by a comment that says nobody wants to play in Canada I don’t think that’s true but we talked a little bit about Cody Bellinger earlier in the show as that there’s some Jay’s Buzz there the Yankees felt they had to get a deal done getting pressure from either Toronto or San Francisco they finally agree we’ll take on most of this money we’ll make this move uh does Toronto pivot uh or they sort of contend to let the market come to them I they have to Pivot at some point like because I mean they they went after sh Otani last year they missed they made reportedly a $760 million offer to Juan stto uh turn that down and they I mean they’ve been big game hunting and they’ve come up empty for the most part they they have interest in Corbin Burns I don’t necessarily Know How likely that fit is there um they um I mean there’s other options that they can look at they can look at like santand they can look at some of these other bats in the market like a bregman or they can look at but they they’ve had trouble luring the big star and you got to wonder why I think maybe their Foundation or lack thereof um could really kind of impact things because there’s no long-term certainty here with B bashed or Vlad Jr so um they to me if you if you look at where things need to start with the Jays I think they need to look internally and extend either Vlad Jr or bashet with Vlad Jr being the clear priority for me um but yeah that’s there’s not much Buzz with the Blue Jays as far as I’ve heard right now well thank you for the
