showdown between these to two quality teams that Conor I think both need a quality win at this point right now big picture what’s your what do you looking at the most for this game it’s so tough because I feel like it’s strength vers strength in this game on paper in UCLA’s defense against gonzaga’s offense uh but I I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s actually the other side of the floor that’s going to determine this game game it’s going to be how well gonzaga’s defense shows up because we’ve seen Gonzaga play lockdown defense we’ve seen Gonzaga play Not So lock down defense and I think where you can get UCLA is the fact that they are a relatively inefficient offense um they don’t necessarily have that like that guy for them right now is Tyler Bido which yes doesn’t necessarily Inspire confidence when you’re a team going up against top whatever team in the country um but on the same token he and Eric Daly have the ability to space the floor in a way that could put guys like gramy e into some issues defensively uh and the back court while it’s a fascinating matchup I think it’s it’s just both front courts have their issues defensively but both front courts are also borderline Elite offens L at their best and that’s going to be an incredibly fun chess match to watch between these two teams it’s just who can get their front court at the best Advantage yeah I I like that I like I like that Outlook too let’s stick with the UCLA side of things because they’re a team that a week ago we were talking about potentially being at the the Forefront of the Big 10 Race particularly with their win over Oregon um but but then they they blow a lead to UNCC and a UNC team that we’re not really sure how good they are which kind of brings in the question how good UCLA actually is how good do you think UCLA actually is like when you when you look at this team are they should they be in the Big 10 title mix like what do you think they do well I have a hard time figuring out where to stack them up nationally quite frankly I think they are defensively because it’s a mck Cronin team they’re obviously going to be a really tough team to handle um in most of the games they play I think they lack topend Talent um like their best players are Tyler Bido and right now sky Clark Dylan Andrews you can throw in there Sebastian Mack coming off the bench but like when those are your best players I think there is a defined ceiling to this team they haven’t gotten the production like a day Mara came in if he lived up to his billing I think this is a completely different conversation but he just hasn’t to the point where he played four minutes against North Carolina and I just think this is a team that’s incredibly flawed as every single team in the Big 10 is at this point in the season um except for maybe like Maryland uh but um but yeah this is a team I think it doesn’t quite fit the Big 10 mold because their front court is kind of small but they have really disciplined defense that kind of just broke down at the end of that game against UNCC so a lot of words salad to say I don’t know what this UCLA team is because I don’t think we’ve hit we’ve seen their offensive ceiling yeah and I don’t know how they’re going to handle other teams we we saw it against uh Oregon but bid’s a little bit of a different type of big but I don’t know how they’re going to handle the gauntlet of bigs they’re going to run through in the Big 10 when you have B AO and Eric daily playing defense yeah I think you goes as their guards go which is hot and cold right you Dylan Andrews and sky Clark uh I think have the potential and they they’ve shown flashes of playing at a really high level Sebastian Mack as well but they’ve also shown the ability to completely fall part and cost you games they caught MC Cronin was not shy with the fact that that Trio cost him the game against New Mexico the first week of the season and they’ve been pretty solid since then but I I I think that’s those are the three guys I kind of will tell you how you see a does on the Gonzaga side of things you’re a Gonzaga guy you’ve talked about how poor they are coming out of second halfes this season they kind of need another quad one win to be like the Gonzaga team we we thought they were going to be in the preseason in my mind this is still a really good team that maybe has a limited ceiling but it’s still has a pretty high floor what are you hoping to see from the Zags in this one I I think we need to see I think we need to see ajai get going early he has been he might be on a short list of the most disappointing transfers yeah this season um at least offensively defensively he has been good he’s one of their probably two or three best defenders but which was not what he was at Pepperdine right but offensively he’s just had some issues getting going I think what we saw in the Yukon game onward is he has started to move off the ball a little bit better to the point where his activity on offense is now not just limited to uh to offensive rebounds but in the last two games against Nicholls and buckell he did struggle shootting so I just want to see him get going I also think that’s the again I think it’s the most vulnerable part of UCLA’s defense is that four spot so trying to get him going against that team I think is important um Ryan dehart’s had some turnover issues the past few games which has been weird it has been weird the the Yukon game as I I think I mentioned it on Twitter I kind of or no not the Nichols game I kind of forgave him for because he had five turnovers two of them were like he hit the hands of his teammates and they just let the ball go but because they never had possession it it was a turnover on him the the buck Nell game I think was a little bit more concerning because it didn’t look like he was TR it looked like he wasn’t trying to push the pace and like really Force those pass into his teammates um and we’re talk like I I was talking about this on House of Krauss like you had a 30-point win and a 21o win and you came out of those games as a you as a Gonzaga guy going okay those were rough games winning by 30 and 21 um but uh I think the Bucknell game was really concerning for ver hard because it was the second game in a row where he’s had more than two turnovers and he hasn’t had back-to-back two back toback three or more turnover games up until these last two games yeah so I mean he’s one of the nation’s best point guards and and his one of his strength is not turning the ball over and always make smart decisions with the ball him not doing that I I think you know makes Gonzaga a little bit a little bit Gable um but I also we have he has enough of track record and he’s good enough I trust him together but they have the best big on the court at all times in this game in my opinion even with B AO on the court like I think what Huff can give you offensively might be greater in his minutes on the floor than what Belo can do in those same minutes that Huff’s on the floor so I think Gaga has the advantage at the five basically 40 minutes in this game in the backourt they have the point guard Advantage Nolan Hickman has started to get going again which I think is dangerous for other teams he was benched in the Yukon game hadn’t looked confident for games came out in the last two games looked really confident from three I think he can get going but again you have you have Hickman and Stromer who are both 40 some odd percent shooters from Deep um Stromer pretty consistently so and Stromer can come in and kind of shut down a sharp shooting Wing if needed which is something he might need to do against uh UCLA to me the X Factor in this game about whether or not Gonzaga can cover is caleff Battle it’s what kaith battle shows up especially going up against Kobe Johnson cuz that’s going to be the matchup and if it’s the caleff battle we’ve seen the past two games that’s a good thing for UCLA if it’s the caleff battle that we saw against Kentucky that we saw against Indiana I think that’s kind of like the straw that breaks the camel’s back in Gaga’s favor um but this is also basically a road game for Gonzaga playing in uh the int Dome h and palom has this as like a mid 70s game if it’s mid 70s I think UCLA wins I think Gonzaga needs to hit 80 not that high but I think they need to hit 80 I think they do I’m gonna take Gonzaga 81 UCLA 76 so Gonzaga covers yeah but just barely I trust Gonzaga so much more than I trust UCLA right now and that’s not necessarily an indictment of how much I trust Gonzaga because as we’ve talked about they have not necessarily performed the way they should in a lot of these big games but neither is UCLA like UCLA has a road to win over Oregon that they got at the buzzer and other than that they’ve been okay this season I think I need to see it a little bit more from UCLA if I’m going to trust UCLA’s guards to beat gonzaga’s guards I don’t know if at that point yet I don’t know if I’m at that point yet with the Bruins so give me Gonzaga I think Gonzaga wins this game by about 11 like give me an 8574 victory for this a I think they will be able to control this one it’s not going to be a blowout it’s not going to be something where you know you flip to something else at halftime or at some point in the second half but I think Gaga maintains a pretty comfortable lead throughout maybe you threatens at some point in the second half but Gaga answers I think Gaga wins comfortably that would that would alleviate so many concerns Gonzaga fans have about this Gonzaga team if they it yes it might also be a sign that maybe UCLA has some de rooted issues as opposed to gag but that’s part of the fun how the rest of the
