mang go some breaking [Music] news and that breaking news is finally Brett Fe has heard us he’s heard our cries the Kansas City Chiefs are signing pro ball left tackle d DJ Humphries finally the Chiefs get some much needed help at left tackle what you think about the move hence I think I think it’s a great move I think it’s a a move that uh we said earlier we was talking about earlier on the show today um Nick um uh said that he he heard some news that he was a rumbling that um from his source that um the Chiefs was gonna bring him in for a workout and I guess that you know that actually happened let’s seear what Nick had to say and signing DJ humph would not be a problem as the team was listed with a 5.9 million salary cap according to the NFL PA public salary cap report so with that being said um breaking news I am told that uh next week the Chiefs intend to bring him into Kansas City for a workout it is possible that he could uh go to the practice squad he would be good insurance for the left tackle situation the Chiefs have really struggled with Kingsley Su Mata and W Morris has had a couple of injuries now they’ve been dealing with what is he 31 he’s going to be 31 I think in in December so so for me I think it’s a good move for the Chiefs there’s already been a couple of former players have indicated that he’s probably going to land in Kansas City plus he’s got DeAndre Hopkins here um you know he he’s got the Hollywood Brown um you know he’s got a couple other Chiefs players from Arizona that are on the roster so and signing DJ would not be problem I guess he was right Nick said he was going to be here and now he’s just own the team I feel like it I I thought would he be on a practice squad by looking at I said will he be on the practice squad because if if all it all tells what he going to do so now you know he’s not going to be on a practice squad and you got news that he’s gonna be signed to the uh the 50 man three roster so what is he getting out this de mango well let’s have a look uh the Chiefs are going to be giving DJ humre a salary a base salary I guess of 2 million and the maximum value can go up to 4.5 million um I’d say I’d say not in the figure wise but similar to the Hollywood Brown deal there’s going to be some big incentives in there to get it up for him um but you know it’s it’s higher than the in the vet Min so it just shows you how badly Brett Vach wanted to bring this guy in and get the help so do you do you think they’ve been watching him for a while now or do you think they uh been out there looking at him and see um you you know you know waiting to see if he get healthy uh because it seems like soon they found out that he is healthy boom then boom yeah there go Chiefs they get what they need yeah well it’s funny you ask that because Matt Derek who we all know of chiefs digest uh tweeted out uh that the Chiefs have been monitoring his progress for about a month waiting for him to be medically cleared he was publicly medically cleared today uh so the team plan on signing him to the active roster pending physical so there you go that’s your if if he get signed to the active roster then that’s your left tackle no ends and butts about it no more you know why why why Morris you know I’m I’m rooting for the kid but hey now you get a veteran pro bowler that at you know that did just at a proo level uh you know I mean he’s he’s still in in his prime he’s about what 30 he I’m not that old you know still in his prime so um Pete Sweeney has chimed in and said that um he’s going to need some practice time to get you know a little bit into football shape but in the meantime the Chiefs are optimistic about their current starter who continues to show Improvement the fact he said he needs time to get into football shape and Morris is the current starter and put emphasis on that I would I wouldn’t be too surprised if we get you know once a December games roll around that DJ humre is the can Kansas City chief stting left tackle for the remainder of the season I think you’re going to see him on Black Friday really you know if I had if I have to look into it I think he’d be you know if they sign him to the 53 man roster then he’s going to be there on Black Friday um he didn’t SW into the um practice squad or nothing like that to get him up speed with the team anything like that they start him to say hey if you come in you pass his physical you are our starting left tackle and thank God thank God the foot the football guys had heard our cries I heard that we needed a left tackle real bad and look what happened you know we didn’t know was a pro baller out there sitting waiting at least I didn’t know that was sit and waiting to join the Kenzie G did you know Mayo uh I didn’t I I thought he was was still working through his recovery obviously he had an ACL injury during week 17 last season and was cuted by the card which was pretty unfortunate because you get to week 17 you’ve come so far at that point of the season and to get that kind of injury it’s it’s pretty devastating so the fact that he’s worked his ass off and he’s back and he earning needs not a couple of weeks to get into football shape I mean it’s pretty remarkable but then I guess that just shows the dedication to the player and you know says a lot about him hey I can’t hey welcome to to the kingdom DJ hey hey Welcome To The Kingdom we glad to have you uh we we definitely needed a uh left tackle because Patrick Mahomes is out there you know he was running for his life you know I mean every time he stepped that back in the pocket he was looking like you know he was looking like the not the regular Mahomes this year and uh you know I mean this is going to help the team in a big way um just hoping that um he he’s healed from his injury that he’s ready to go they want made this move they didn’t think he was ready yeah you know I mean Andy Reid want to made this move Brett Beach want made this move that they didn’t think he was ready to go um they think he’s ready to go and they did and in the size and the Tails if you know they signed him to the um you know the 50 man thre man roster they not signing to the practice squad guys they’re not just saying hey this is a guy that’s we gonna just had on the practice squad just sitting there learning plays this is a guy that we think that’s going to get it done and come out and help um you know this team get to that three like I said a long time ago guys any mean meary necessary to get the 3p done anything and uh it makes you think all this recent chatter about you know Donovan Smith is’s waiting for the phone call he’s ready as soon as Beach calls it almost makes you think that could that have potentially been a smir screen since Matt Derk has said well the Chiefs have been monitoring humre for about a month now so it it makes you wonder was what what’s happened with the Donovan smithing was there any legitimacy to the claims or bit of a smoke screen perhaps H I think it probably a smoke scream to see uh what you know know get everybody’s eyes off of to say hey yeah Donan Smith you know do us his favor we got you a second ring do us his favor say you was coming over here but the like I I don’t I don’t remember what year draft he came out in I don’t got the um the notes right in front of me um I want to say 2015 but I’m not 100% sure I’ll just have a look was was that the Cardinal’s first round draft pick let’s have a look DJ Humphries was drafted in 2015 um does it say the yeah the 25 overall pick so yes yeah yeah so he he he was the first round draft pick right correct yeah so yeah so there go Beach doing it again GNA go I’ve actually got some statistics here whilst we’re in the we’ve just touched on Donovan Smith uh a comparison if you will so in the 2023 regular season Donovan Smith had 42 pressures 474 allowed pressure opportunities 8.9% pressure rate and nine penalties and compared to DJ Humphrey’s 2023 regular season Humphrey’s had only 28 pressures 525 allowed pressure opportunities a 5.3% pressure rate in nine penalties so the penalties are the same but the rest is drastically better I would argue if if you watched the show earlier today I know I don’t know if Karine was in there and thanks for everybody that’s joining in Karim I can’t see that name over there on my other screen but oh uh know if the Kingsley is just going to be inactive for the rest of the year it would make sense because if Morris does get hurt you’re stuck with and Driscoll he’s good but he’s an undrafted rookie hey until Monday Morris is expected to start Sunday versus Panther but Kingsley sewer Matti will be active this week as the swing tackle well from Matt Derek that’s great we just hope they just protect Mahomes until he gets ready but make them with all your might I don’t care if you gotta get holding calls or whatever get do it to get it done but heyy a lot of people a lot of people you know you back of the day but hey you um do you think Kingsley gets a crack at at start of next year or do you think we just go and trade for someone because number one the draft is pretty crap next year as it that Andy Heck coaches him up in the off season and he has a good preseason or they see what they have in Humphrey along the way and probably give him another you know you know another deal if he if he comes out if Humphrey comes out and and and you know DJ comes out and play ball and and give it his all and get back to that Pro bow level that he was in you know a couple years ago um if he come out and playing at that level then you you know you look at that you go back and look at it say okay you know I mean you know we probably gonna put you know put one of these guys at Jo tuni because Jo tuni gonna be that that contract is going to be up next year and he going to be a larger contract do you see them keeping Joe Toney mang go um I think it really depends on what happens with Tre Smith said um breaking news I am told that uh next week the Chiefs intend to bring him into Kansas City for a workout it is possible that he could uh go to the practice squad he would be good insurance for the left tackle situation the Chiefs have really struggled with Kingsley Su Mata and W Morris has had a couple of injuries now they’ve been dealing with what is he 31 he’s gonna be 31 I think in in December so for me I think it’s a good move for the Chiefs there’s already been a couple of former players have indicated that he’s probably going to land in Kansas City plus he’s got DeAndre Hopkins here um you know he he’s got the Hollywood Brown um you know he’s got a couple other Chiefs players from Arizona that are on the roster so and signing DJ humph would not be a problem hey so he here he is Nick said it now he’s in uniform uh a raper Port put it out there that he will get the two million the max value of 4.5 million you know depending on what he do this season and hey you know you got signed Pro Bowl left tackle DJ humre formerly of Co Dre’s Arizona Cardinals he unforunately suffered an ACL injury in week 17 he’s back he needs a couple of weeks to get into football shape the expectation is per Matt Derek that uh Wan morus will start against the Panthers potentially against the Raiders but uh well there you go you you you’ve sneaked that one in from today’s show because I was like I’ve not sent you that today um but yeah Tor ACL has been medically cleared uh the Chiefs have been monitoring him for a month so whatever you’ve heard about Donovan Smith and we’re guilty of posting the Donovan because why wouldn’t you he we won the Super Bowl with him at left tackle we’ve got our left tackle issues someone says Donovan Smith’s like just the call away he’s ready why wouldn’t you believe it but uh we we went through the numbers earlier and DJ Humphrey is a year younger than Donovan Smith and he was far better than him last year um so I think we’re all hoping fingers crossed next couple of weeks once we get into December DJ Humphries will be the Kansas City chief starting left tackle for the remainder of the season and hopefully a Super Bowl winning run
