Little Rock but the performance didn’t feel that good either did it Connor hope no and and I’ve been one uh publicly trying to give Coach Cal the benefit of the doubt um and of all the games that they have played so far this season this might have been the game that disappointed me the most from Arkansas uh this was a a 49- 31 point game with 16 minutes left in the half so they were up by 18 with 16 minutes left um just doing like quick math that means they were on track to win by like that 25 to 30 point or they were up 18 yeah they just in that 25 to 30 point range um at the end of the game with 13 and a half minutes two and a half minutes later uh this score was cut to eight so they they it it was a quick kind of 10-point turnaround um it was a seven-point game with 10 minutes left they pushed it out a little bit more you know it was a 14-point game and then it came back down to eight and like AR like Arkansas before it was you need we need to figure out our offense and they didn’t hit the 80 Mark which I said thought that they would in this game um their defense didn’t show up when it mattered in the second I mean I guess it showed up when it mattered in the second half but it they let Little Rock go on too many like quick runs uh in that second half when you’re a team like Arkansas that wants to have like make a statement early in the season you want to compete for like one of those top four to five seeds probably won’t get one of those but you know you want to be in the conversation at least when you have an 18-point lead at the half you you you have to double down against Little Rock like it it’s to me the reason why this is so disappointing is because if if I told you they had an 18-point lead at the half he we’re up 42 to 24 uh it wasn’t perfect you’d be like okay like that’s a good performance for like we were thinking like low 80s to 40s maybe they cross the 50 Mark Little Rock does like a a 30ish point win like we’re right on track for that okay cool like that’s that’s all positive uh and then they had a negative six they or they were outscored by six points in the second half yeah it just it’s not what you expect right there’s a you expect a certain uh not you’re not just Arkansas right you’re Calipari team you’re not supposed to just be good you’re supposed to be great and don’t get me wrong zaras team is still good right you I don’t think you’re in any real danger of missing any tournaments or you know finishing any bottom halfs of sec’s but you’re not going to be the team that I think you expected to be going into this game uh or go going into this season excuse me I think the only well for starters John Al Davis looked absolutely unplayable and it wasn’t just John L Davis though guy it was like I’m going to take you through the offense when Arkansas was up 51 to 33 right a Miss three by DJ Wagner on the first possession after that followed by a Mis Jumper by Carter Knox followed by a bad pass turnover by DJ Wagner followed by a Miss three-point Jumper by Adu tiero followed by a bad pass turnover by D Tiaro followed by they they made TI made two free throws right uh followed by two like they didn’t make a field goal after they went up 51 to they didn’t make a field goal after they went up 49 to 31 until the N9 and 955 Mark when they were up they were up 5951 and got a second second chance layup from Tio so they missed the first shot that is if I’m doing math correctly uh just over six and a half minutes or just under six and a half minutes of like turnovers and Miss shots and one one shot possessions against Little Rock yeah that’s unacceptable that’s unaccept you know I I mentioned John Al Davis just because he was the most egregious one but he was the most egregious but like Boogie fland had four turnovers aduo had five turnovers Wagner and uh aich both had three turnovers like John El Davis wasn’t making shots but this entire they had 19 turnovers against Little Rock yeah it’s Little Rock this was supposed to be the game where they fixed it it Billy Richmond as well looked awful I mean there’s not there’s not much to say here other than just saying this guy didn’t look good this guy didn’t look good this guy didn’t look good this guy had one good play but he didn’t look that great um and I want to know the worst part about it guy is that I’m just gonna read out the the first half stats Boogie fland had 13 points five of five from the five assists he had the two turnovers but like you can deal with that Tero had seven points three of three from the floor uh he had a block and three steals they had Tira with three steals DJ Wagner with three steals Boogie flann and jonal Davis both had two steals they held Little Rock to 24 points DJ Wagner had five two of four from the floor aich had seven three of four from the floor like Carter Carter Knox Billy Richmond was two of two from the four Carter Knox johnell Davis had poor shooting performance in that first half but they only had seven turnovers in that first half they rebounded the ball like relatively well in that first half I think they still got outrebounded but I think a lot of that had to do with Little Rock getting offensive rebounds because they weren’t making shots um they were they assisted on like eight of their 18 made buckets in that first like everything looked maybe we would come into this performance like okay they won by you know 30 28 or 30 it didn’t look perfect like it’s it wasn’t you know a convincing 30 point win but it looked good um and then like they had four assists seven Mage buckets they shot 32% from the floor they shot 30% from three they had 12 turnovers to just four assists they had a bunch of rebounds cuz they like they were making shots uh they gave up 45% from three in that second half to Little Rock they gave up 44% from the floor uh they gave up five additional offensive rebounds they only turned Little Rock over eight times in that second like it just a complete 180 and you’re sitting there going okay like if you struggle out of the gates against a team and then you turn it on late I can swallow that a bit more then oh we were dominating this team and they made adjustments and we did it and I think that the the other thing when you you realize this is that the you have a game against Maryland Eastern Shore and then the cakewalks over you got to play Illinois right and it you know it’s it’s not at home I mean not that the home court advantage even looked very good tonight it wasn’t a soldout Arena it wasn’t particularly loud which is a complete uh 180 to what we saw this off season when Coach Cal got hired but I’m looking at that Illinois and that that Illinois head the Illinois game and I’m scratching my head there we go I can speak uh I just I I mean I guess the Miami game is a win because they’ve looked atro ious and Charleston this week but other than that I don’t know what you’re looking forward to and getting excited about with this team if there’s is there anything Connor no I mean you’re going to get Arkansas fans who go okay well there’s weird things and like the weird things scare me I think at this point with with Trayvon Brazil and and especially Jonas Adu um you need those guys back I mean you need those guys Z was unplayable tonight they help you defensively I’m not sure they make the offense any better I’m really can the offense get any worse is the question I mean this all things considered like in totality this game wasn’t their worst offensive performance um that’s a fair point uh it’s telling that they came away with a 12-point victory and they dropped eight spots on kmom though it’s it’s that they are now 176th in the country at 33% from three they are 263rd in the country and turnover percentage they have big Z and a d and they are still 294th in the country and offensive rebound percentage Yeah I mean and the the Baylor game that they played close just keeps looking worse and worse I mean yeah yeah that I mean that’s the thing is that like I I was here a few videos ago like we’re judging them based on a five-point loss to Baylor and then after seeing what Tennessee’s offense did to Baylor I get a Chaz lineer is like Dalton connect light if Dalton connect light was like basically D connect um but uh yeah man like the Pacific game the lips game I could swallow first game of the season Baylor game I could swallow like it was just it was a weird game and a good team in theory good team in theory uh the Troy game I could swallow because you absolutely knocked the breaks off of Troy in that second half um Pacific I was like oh this is like a weird first half like everything all four of those games was like oh this is just like a they struggled in the first half they struggled in the first half they struggled in the first half right to be team like the best teams in the country we’ve seen struggle in the first half against Bad teams it it happens we saw Yukon struggle in the first half against New Hampshire right it happens it happens when you have an 18-point lead against Little Rock at home going into the second half and you’re Arkansas and Wilkinson got hurt halfway through that second half that doesn’t even matter to me even if he’s in there you’re Arkansas and you don’t step on their throats like you’re looking for a statement win still and I get it beating Little Rock by 30 beating Pacific by 30 beating Troy by lipsum like it we’re using it as a statement win just because of of the amount of offense that Kentucky had against lipsum but like we’re like they’re not going to be those statement wins that like a Illinois or a Michigan or a Tennessee win might be right but when you look down the list and you’re like [Music] and then you have an opportunity to have a 30 point 32o win against Little Rock at home and go like how to put it all together on both ends of the floor for 40 minutes and you just put up a stinker like and not even the Miss shots are fine it’s it was like bad pass after bad pass it was it was gross it wasn’t and this has been the problem all season is bad pass after bad pass yeah it it was just slopp it was it was gross it it sort of felt like they were just they had been told how to play basketball but hadn’t really practiced how to play basketball at times and I I I have to assume that with Cal at some point it’ll get sorted out but I guess sort of to leave you with one last question Conor do you think sorted out in time man here’s here’s what I’m struggling with is that and it wasn’t Cal but this Arkansas Team because of who they are right this Arkansas Team under mus would struggle early they’d struggle a lot like right at the beginning of SEC play um and then they would figure it out eventually so there’s a there’s a level and again I understand it’s not mus but there’s always been a level especially with these teams that are coming together of like wait and see wait and see like they’ll figure it out they’ll come together which is why I was so I was I was like a calip poist the first four games of the Season my issue is is that they figured it out that’s my issue guy it’s not it’s not the missed shots it’s not I mean it is the missed shots and the turnovers especially it’s not the giving up like 40 some odd percent from three in the second half after shutting down the offense in the first half especially when one of their star players is out right like all of that fine it’s you had an 18-point lead against a team that was is outside the top 170 in kenpom at home you were Domin manting them you could have put them away you could have put out your your Victory cigars early in this game uh and you had to play your seven-man rotation the entire game because you didn’t and that’s the story of the game you had an 18-point lead at the half you were running away with this game you won by 12 against Little Rock at home with your talent when the entire beginning of the season has been oh they’re not well coached and you know what frankly in this game the fact that they didn’t make an adjustment the fact that they didn’t come out with fire at the beginning of that second half and put it away early sure there is Credence to every single criticism of Cal that comes from this game because any other team that is a team looking to be a one through four seed if they have an 18 point you know 15 plus Point win at home against one of these teams their coaches are telling them let’s push this to 25 plus in the first six minutes of this game and just be done with it and Arkansas did it and that’s that’s a it’s a big problem so Arkansas fans you got 40 minutes of basketball to iron it out against Maryland Eastern sure and then you go play Illinois I’m guy
