e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e good morning everybody and welcome back to the 2024 United States national Snooker Championship live here at Embassy billiards in St Gabrielle California it’s going to be a great match this morning CCU he definitely knows how to go the distance deep in tournament staying on leea Chen both players have a two and 0 record in their group so the winner of this will be the first seed the second the loser will be the second seed but both will be moving on handshakes are there CC just setting up the bulk colors he’s won the toss and he’ll break off it’s David Bernie the booth with my man to the right Christian youngers how you doing today Christian pretty good pretty good Dave how you doing today I’m doing pretty good Christian a man of many secrets and gave us some great uh espresso this morning so we’re ready to go all of you out there are as well let us know where you’re tuning in from if you have any comments or questions the chat was actively exciting yesterday lots of great action and today we’re going to come to the conclusion of the round robin and we’ll find out who will be moving on we could be in store for a really great match here both players quite proficient in the game of snooker here I think it’s just going to be who’s going to be able to capitalize on the mistakes let see see anything great there to get his break going so with that one red left of the blue make the safety relatively easy we one needed the cover this red is open to the left middle is and obviously now with the pink coming up table interesting to see what color CC gets on black does go to the top right see taking that shot into the top left corner I would have put CC onto a color ball let see going into the left middle he’s going to have trouble with Catherine um what is Ron’s last name I don’t know if I’ve encountered Ron but you can find the brackets at Cloud snooker.org look at for the US national Snooker Championship of 2024 there’s a live scoring tab there on that page as well cuz we have nine matches in action this morning we have a few that are televised we’re here on the papsa channel and the ox Billiards Channel our main featured match between CCU and Lewa Chan as well on the obsa Channel with Rob Richard’s providing commentary Darren Taylor is staying on nail Tito and looks like step Wong is going against Rich Lon and that is on the embassy Billiards YouTube channel as well Embassy Billiards has another Channel or another match that they streaming so there’s about four matches streaming two with commentary and two without but that’s what we’re here for thanks for tuning in appreciate it so if you have any questions any comments we’re happy to find the answers for you might spot on the pink I think CCE is just uh correting Le Lea who comes from New York owns a club out there great to See’s 61 players in the tournament don’t have many people who are kind of a skeleton crew behind the scenes so that’s why the score doesn’t keep updated as the player makes the break so we do apologize for that if you want to help grow the game in America reach out to Snooker usa.com that’s where you’ll find the governing body the United States snooker Association the USSA and drop them online know you’d like to help out cuz the scorekeeper has the best seat in the house as well they offer referee training on that website it’s a tough job refereeing but a really appreciative job really deflates any uh arguments as much as players might not agree with the referee’s ruling at some points because they’re in the heat of battle at the end of the day they will appreciate the the handiwork that the referees bring and scorekeepers Alik but it definitely is a a game of class it is a gentleman’s game as they call it interesting now there’s Fierce competitors on the table obviously but if a player starts getting a high run your opponent quickly turns into cheerleader when the frame’s out of balance six guy yes the pairings for The Knockout will be shown today but we need to get to the end of the day lots of matches here in day two of the US national championship so definitely Cloud snooker I’d say take a look back maybe uh 7:00 tonight Pacific time as we’re around on the west coast in Southern California so CC’s got in first had a little nice 17 break he’s got another opener here fortunate part is he’s a bit the angle on this red the middle looks like he the natural angle is going to push him more to the top end of the table the pairings showing later tonight we can also let you know that the winner of this pre prestigious event will be taking home $7,000 and the runner up has $3,000 and our two semi-finalists will get $11,000 each and all the quarterfinalists with $400 and the high break will be $400 as well so we’ll be putting that breakdown see up on the stream at some point not sure right now what the high break is really it seemed like yesterday there wasn’t a lot of fluidity with players it seemed like maybe a in the 30s maybe maybe the 40s a high break but I don’t think there’s any half centuries definitely not a center we would have heard it as it always creates a lot of Buzz always tough these first matches of the day definitely in the early morning Nei player has been on the TV table yet plays a little different as talking to a lot of the players every table in this room actually plays just a little bit different but the stronger player definitely will be able to adapt CC seems like the one that’s doing it on the early stages of this match very nicely done by cc to avoid any of the ball colors came in and out of bulk nicely would have like this Q ball to be away from the cushion and made that pot just that much more difficult but played it with an element of safe as he knew with the blind cut this QQ B is going to be shooting up into the bulk area it’s a nice confidence building shot for Lewa who’s just struggled a little bit in the beginning just slowly turning on the machine for for good effort there by cc is going to have to bring out the need the redwards or this is going to be yeah it’s going to be a little awkward if he uses the short rest I can use the short rest just needs to screw on his extension there CCU the owner and operator of Empire Billiards up there in Redmond Washington that’s right I think he’s actually going to be moving locations uh coming up here in a bit what I heard Still somewhere on the east side for those of you East Side Seattle snooker players so I won’t be going too far but I believe he’s getting some new tables might be what the rumor says o little bit too much of a low tip on that I think he was trying to go in between the green and brown it’s going to unfortunately be end of break but CC looking strong in this first frame action yeah definitely with the upward surge of growth in snooker in the US OFA I won’t be surprised in the coming years if we get a champion from the Pacific Northwest for this un United States national championship it just seems obviously we’re in Southern California right now and it’s getting close to December but it’s still nice comfortably sunny weather out there always a chance to be outside but when the winter sets in in the Pacific Northwest it’s rainy wet and cold and perfect to be inside and uh own your Snicker talents mhm that is the best uh most fun thing to do definitely when it’s uh wet and rainy outside I think makes for a good pairing but uh I think CC probably being the front runner on that list that you’re talking about of Pacific Northwest players he has had a previous runner up I think in preo Era 2018 I think something like that and he was a semi-finalist in uh um the last year’s event I think past two events he might have been a semi-finalist right yeah I think he was semi-finalist when we hosted it in Seattle at Ox as well mhm yeah I think the only or no he lost to the quarterfinals to Raymond that’s right the only big victory I know the CC has is he was the inaugural Seattle snooker open Champion mhm know he’s uh he’s been kind of in the mix on almost every tournament though that he’s played right top four minimum BC Open champ uh runner up right I think years ago three years ago mhm he seems to always be the bridesmaid but never the bride maybe this is his year we’ll see he could be a dark horse I know there was lots of debates yesterday about who people thought the champion would be I mean he’s number three seed though in this tournament do you put him at as a dark horse in that in that respect I think he’s he’s pretty out in the open there most players I think respect his game and know that he definitely can take this Tournament down at least that’s my thoughts the real Dark Horse I’d say maybe gentleman over on table nine standing uh away from us Mr Tom that’s who I was toing yesterday when you were in your match yesterday there was a little debate Christian we were having on the chat and uh you know I was picking out the favorites but I like the way Tom was playing against Steven had the four fortunate honor to have Darren Taylor the reigning champion in the booth as we were calling that match and it was a two nothing victory for Tom but both frames went down to the black ball so it could have gone either way wow yeah I mean I remember seeing the uh the first framew stepen almost cleared up and missed the black down cushion in the in the thick part of the Jaws o want to make a highlight reel of that oh his brown was phenomenal in that first range stevenh was so this is a great opportunity here for cc lots of balls out in the open really can put us into the snooker required stage quite handily just got to maintain his Focus like to get that black back on its spot yeah you wouldn’t wouldn’t know it by looking at CC Fierce determination on the table but off the table it’s tough to wipe away that beautiful grin that he has really Smiles ear to ear Pleasant chop to be in the room with but he knows he can switch it on when he gets on the table it’s no laughing matter his job to be done and he does it effectively this definitely looks like the first frame is going to go the way to the man from The Evergreen State I don’t think that red near the top right corner is going to be a problem for him to take the black there he’s taking a look if it does he’s always got the pink into the right middle we got into that one no got too much into it right mhm this is the Speedy table of course these uh table three and table four in the room are lined with different cloth they do have uh strong super fine cloth I believe so they do play definitely a bit quicker you can tell there that that extra roll at the end just got him and didn’t get him onto the pink which is what he was playing on probably still has an edge here but this actually this might still cut into the middle just based on the camera angle I think it’s deceiving enough that it it can still cut it’s just a little bit tougher than it might have been how he stop sooner yeah it’s there great shot from CC definitely good recovery shot sometimes uh when you go a little out of position on one shot you take your next shot you’re even further out of position and then it’s just catastrophic but CC able to recovery just shows the tenacity that he has once again going to be overrunning his position might have to take pink up into the corner pocket past the green did you give CC one of your world famous espresso this morning I don’t know maybe he’s got some zip world famous I don’t know about that yet we’ll see well it might be big in Japan really this is just about potting this ball you’re going to have a shape on the red no matter what it’s a tough one and he’s overcut it think that red along the top cushion just hampering is queuing a little bit did have to bridge over it but uh solid break it’s like a break of is that 24 yeah go 54 Advantage with 59 on the table so see he just needs one red to get us Snookers required ouch fortunate that didn’t stay over the pocket but I think CC can kind of play this a bit of a shot to nothing although red up table makes it difficult to go too far think you really just want to play for pink here this is the shot Stephen Henry loves to talk about how he hates shooting the shot the little sort of stun run along the cushion cuz it can make you look like an idiot if you miss it or you overrun your position by Miles up table especially when that angle is there to play for the black and you kind of need to hold it it becomes very very touchy the speed that kind of tells you how difficult this game is when a seven time world champion does not like a shot cuz he finds it difficult right Le doesn’t look like he’s got the engine started yet missing a few pots that one not guaranteed to be easy but definitely potable why it was still risky for cc to take that red along the top cushion players have met in the past um in previous US national championships I know the one in um the one we hosted at Ox 2022 Edition um they did match up I believe in the group stage or no sorry it was the um the round of 32 that was our our streamed match table match for the first round of the knockout stage I think that’s over on our on our YouTube channel at Ox Billiards yeah the one thing that’s going to be a bit tricky for Lee if he wants to take this first frame is that blue is a little bit safe there on the left cushion so probably not worrying too much about right now just wants to at least put a healthy break yeah plenty of high value colors on so he should it’s unfortunate to get this close to the red but if you can knock this in it’s going to get the last two Reds he’s going to have to start thinking about how to claw some back some points back in this one maybe with some Snookers a lot of colors bunched up in the top left corner the table from our view op going to take the brown here maybe just to play Shape for the red along the right long rail not sure I like this choice but we’ll see how it ends up yeah his C Ball was going of be launching directly at that red to break it out unfortunately green ruin in the party probably a three cush in Middle here and play the Q ball off of one rail up table it’s gone pretty wide I think I would have liked to play Closer to underneath the black as opposed to between black and blue there with the Q Ball but maybe that angle wasn’t there it does send the red a little bit closer to the black and keep it more safe in my opinion yeah kind of surprised like you Christian that he didn’t take that pink on I mean it is definitely a tougher tougher pot I would say than the brown um so I do understand wanting to open up the red and sort of you don’t need the points you know it’s only a difference of three points or two points for the pink versus the brown so in retrospect I don’t mind it so much yeah 42 points in the frame and 43 on the table so just one red for cc and snooker is required so so thinning off this red he playing can he get below the side pocket I don’t think so so he’s going to have to play it off of the right cushion above the side pocket hopefully getting in behind Brown off of two cushions oh no he went for the pot this key ball is going to drop in I think does that spell disaster depends if leat can capitalize so seen so many times that one just costly air can just change the trajectory of a frame the players seeming like they’re out but then one door opens and they take full advantage and steamroll to a upsetting Victory so he’s op to take the red on the left corner pocket because it’s a bit straighter to play Shape for the black or pink I do like shooting red to right corner instead because definitely an easier pot and you can still get shape at least with a high pink if your Q balls racing a bit too much what do you think do you like to get behind the black here Christian off this red yeah it seems like the obvious choice to me with that ball being about a ball width across a ball width excuse me off the cushion or so it ends up being a nice Target Zone and he’s overcut it but did well to push the red up table so not a bad choice yeah with a 38 Point difference you know putting those Reds leall can’t get a lot of points off it obviously the B colors are not as profitable as the high value colors as we know as the black is the prime ball worth seven point points and yellow and green and brown two three and four it’s tough to score heavily with you’re potting those balls that’s a mistake there he put a bit too much low on the shot and didn’t quite get through the QQ ball as much as he needed to ended up sort of dragging the Q ball up table and slowing It Down The Back Spin causing it to uh slow up as well he didn’t quite get as thin of a contact I think on the red as he wanted it’s a tough shot to take onwa this is going to Snooker the green so going to have to take Brown here maybe the blue does pass the green it’s tight I think Brown the obvious choice to just get a look at this red and play the first attacking snooker on the last Red last red situation and there always on that last red potential of a free ball that’s going to drop yikes it’s not the end of the world here but it does give CC the initiative here since he gets first choice at playing of safety on this red going to push it up table maybe treble it it’s going to treble in oh wow so with that red off the table 35 points remain now it’s going to make it required stage concession uhuh and Le while not liking it so CCU takes that first frame by a score of 66 to 23 he leads this best of three match by one frame to nil we’ll step aside for a few short moments uh we do have actually some announcements between frames here a good friend uh from Thailand she’s a great player and a sweetthe heart of a lady got to meet her a couple times at the US Open up there at Ox Billiards mink nerot coming over here to Dazzle all the Southern California IES with her great snooker abilities and then she’ll travel up to Canada to be in Toronto at Master Cube Billiards that goes over the Christmas holidays looking to be here on December 22nd and then January 2nd in Canada definitely get your tickets for that search out Embassy billiards.com or just at least Google search them to get your tickets for that exciting event Lea set to break off frame two let’s see if he can rebound and push us into the decider obviously CC would like to get this match and frame done and dusted and be able to enjoy the rest of his day right this is his last match of the group stage right for both players both players both players will be moving on they’re both two and0 so this is kind of a a battle more for position rather than uh you’re livelihood in the tournament okay okay we do have um some some dramatic endings some of these groups I believe today we’re going to hopefully have some more insight on where the standings are in each group and where each match uh will place the players CU it’s going to it’s getting down to it here the not to decide The Knockout stage I think players players are scoring themselves so they’ll be updating the score in a little bit they haven’t compl completed the last frame but it is z0 in this one to start yeah do not adjust your asss there’s 15 Reds on there and the score line says 66 to 23 all right I don’t know how that could even be possible but it’s a lot of fouls it’s all a lot of a lot of black ball fouls now I don’t know did CC nominate this was touching ball think a bit of an update too um TV table 4 has got a match going now with Darren Taylor and N Tito who is a little bit delayed don’t know if there was any penalties awarded in that one but but yeah always got this great cut there by CC I wondered if he was touching that right in these non refereeing matches it’s always really important just to speak clearly to your opponent and if it is touching ball just to announce it and let them know and let them know what ball is touching also potentially if it’s a free ball situation always good to announce those just so there’s no misunderstandings all right this is early on a Saturday morning as well so if you guys have any friends or your friends are watching this tournament there are many tables being streamed here we got three different tables I believe being streamed San Gabriel Embassy Billiards has table five action Rob Richards over on the Ontario snooker tournaments YouTube page obsa is streaming uh either four or 5 depending on his liking and we’ve got the main match table here on all three channels Ox Billiards with Ox promotions Embassy Billiards Club as well as pabs the Pan-American snooker Association open Channel so drop us a like and a subscribe to our channels if you guys are enjoying the content as well it always helps us out as we are trying to grow the sport and getting viewership up is one easy way to help get sponsors and grow This Magnificent sport that we know to be over here in the US and Beyond North America but right now CC has drawn first blood in the second frame on a fairly straight red going to be playing for blue here since don’t think pink goes into either Corner Pocket he’s just slight off angle maybe and needs to get above blue perfect tricky shot there because farther he gets away from the blue the more angle he has on it to come back down for the rest of the Reds so he’s landed quite perfect I’d say on this loose red he can play for next to the right of the bunch into the left lower corner pocket as well as the red next to the black seem to be the most obvious choices next he’s choosing to Canon into these balls and how’s his luck not the best results but definitely not the worst yeah he might be taking this red down the cushion once again he had this shot earlier and this is more akin to the shot that stepen Henry hates kind of a stun hold for the black that’s typically the shot and if he can knock this in so be a big confidence boost is it was really the only big shot he missed in the previous frame well done see I don’t like that idea of hate you know like I think when you come to you got to be positive you know even if you’re like glued to a color ball and a tough snooker you’re like oh have fun with that one well this is my favorite shot you got to be positive right you know don’t want to be like oh I got to do this it’s just going to bring that negative energy and not able you to be successful and I don’t know what he’s thinking honestly we’re just kind of trying to do some mind reading here right at the in the commentaries booth just to make things entertaining could be that uh he really enjoys those cuts down the rail is this plant on these two Reds left of the bunch looks like they’re pointed to the top cushion about uh few balls length away so there must be something in the pack that he sees maybe the uh the red just below the pink and that one is on it looks like just overcuts it would have been nicely on the blue terms of angle but left the Q ball on the cushion and no look at this red over the corner pocket so this might lead to a bit of a safety exchange kind of playing cat and mouse to not leave a shot at this red over the corner pocket unless someone can knock it in or knock it out yeah those Reds were always lined up to come short of the pocket I think there’s a window here at least to the red above the one closest to the right corner pocket doesn’t have a full pocket though I don’t think he’s firing though so maybe the lower one is on that’s a good shot need needs to be above the blue but he’s okay yeah cc is quite proficient of taking the blue into a middle pocket and running in and out of bulk and not disturbing the family colors so I’m just waiting for Darren Taylor to take a shot on the adjacent table it’s a great room here at Embassy Billiards that’s for sure but uh sometimes you get a little stalles these snooker tapes take up a lot of real estate we did shoot a a ball in and out of bulk earlier and cannon into the brown so I’m interested to see how he plays this one if it’s with a bit more Top Spin or if he ends up trying to stun draw a bit in between the green and brown uh he hit the classic check side spin stun shot really well done and hits the gap between the cluster wow a little bit fortunate there or genius depending on how you see it right if it was intentional but great shot that one to be able to execute just a bit of a stun run through on the blue a bit of right hand side to check it off the cushion and bring it back along the same line that they came on into into in and out of bulk so great shot from CC it’s always a genius at work when CC’s at the table Yeah and good morning to you Venit Dan up there in Canada in British Columbia here’s a prediction everybody V has uh two youngsters young boys that are just engrossed in the game snooker just love it you have to peel them away from the table V has a lot of trouble with that so the danan boy Bo look out for that name in the future okay if those boys continue their uh love for the game and keep their practicing up you know we’re creating a lot of opportunities up there in the Vancouver area for some Juniors to excel so excellent positional shot from CC here to get on this gap between the red and pink with the loose red below the spot think he’s almost dead straight and can play Shape for the pink or roll forward for the black well done didn’t manage to open up any more Reds it looks like maybe the red the three in the bunch at the bottom goes to the right corner but if that red in the middle starts to really open up the Clusters here and I think one more one more solid breakout shot would really open up this frame for a high bre opportunity I feel like almost just just picking off the loose Reds be advantageous to CC yeah rubbed into that black didn’t make the red I think that was that was the right shot but he just simply overcut the red had he cut it dead into the pocket would have been a little bit thicker contact and his C Ball would have been running into the black at a slightly thicker angle and pushing it open toward the pocket so I think it was just a right shot just to miss on the execution there on the cut angle yeah the door of opportunity has opened for you Lewa what can you pull out going to see the long rest here he has left It Wide Open I don’t like searching over on this shot like I said I think there’s even though there’s a couple open Reds this bunch of three or four just below the pink to the left of the spot those are the ones that are kind of ripe for a nice breakout shot and if if somebody can get that opening it’s going to lead to pretty Wide Open Table for possible High break opportunity it’s overran position here might actually have gotten on the pink to the right middle as kind of a backup option if so it’s going to be cannon in into that red just below the pink just depends on how where you want to position your QQ ball which red are you playing on next did he cluster them up into the right middle pocket I think so does have one to left Center pocket he’s not making it easy on himself that’s for sure no wew just uh awaiting the defending Champion Darren Taylor to take his shot on the adjacent table great sportsmanship with all the players here a lot of respect for each other yeah it’s a good group and everyone’s knows that they meet up meet with each other every year for this us Nationals there are a bit more opportunity now for tour stops as well for the USSA national tour and we did have about a dozen or so tour stops in this past year I think there are some big plans to help organize this a little bit more for next year as the room we do have probably the biggest concentration of snooker room owners in the country I would guess so the the rightmost red in this Bunch the lowest one does go to the right middle pocket it’s a tough shot though because that pocket closes up at this angle pretty drastically so he’s going to have to roll this in nice easy Pace it’s going to mean a difficult color I wouldn’t mind actually playing the safety here instead yeah just playing with that extra Pace made it that much more difficult but he needed the pace to hold for a color yeah is nicely on the pink but at the expense of missing the shot I don’t know if he prefer that nice 23 break though to get him back into the second frame he’s not out of it still lots of points on the table but he’s giv CC decent chance to get back in I noce CC does like these shots up into the corners when he’s really close to the red for the color and it’s fairly straight on he’s got a pretty decent accuracy at shooting those um just from my own experience of playing him in the past and just seeing him on the live streams it’s definitely a shot that I would probably guess is in his arsenal of favorite shots to shoot at least ones he he knows he’s accurate with so is he going to deny the pink here to try to get better position on the open red or possibly break open the cluster might be he’s playing with a high ball they just play in between the red and pink the center of the table now he’s playing the breakout nicely done and he’s got the red as insurance to the right center interesting how you categorize it when you play CC if I remember playing CC I’m more watching CC cuz he’s putting me in my chair more often than not yeah shout out to the Washington State snooker League uh we did have that that’s still currently running at Ox we’re trying to organize it in other locations but uh ohc misses a pot the middle pocket there um we I did play him you know when I was living in Seattle over there and managed to take I think third or fourth place in that League that year behind CC but I actually beat him in our match best of two frames or whatever we played that was my only my only uh crowning achievement against the man at the table or in I mean but uh I I have the recording of the uh of the clearance on one of the frames and it ended with one of those super super thin shots into the middle pocket that you have to just slow roll and it just drops in on the pink to get straight on the black and pop the long black for the win or something like that it was it was fun I gotta go post that somewhere I don’t know this is now a chance for Lewa even the score with these two open Reds and where the red is sitting up the table oh no could you believe it yeah he was walking to play Shape for the pink before the red even stopped moving I think that might have been the problem so often than not you get ahead of yourself you got to stay in the moment that was uh it’s going to play the plant here as it’ll provide for an easier red later in the break and it’s easy you just have to pretend to pot these balls wouldn’t mind if both Reds were to drop there either since he is leading in the score line and taking Reds off the table will just uh speed up the frame for him but I was saying before this red where it’s sitting next to the brown if you can get into the window between brown and yellow or brown and green it’s an easy stop shot safety to send the red around the table and align the constellations but he’s going to play for it now it’s kind of a two-way bump that it helped him to get shape on the red but it’s left him tight to the cushion so 27 the difference now with this break of or sorry 28 he has a break of eight now yeah made that pot just tougher than it needed to be and that little bit of run on the table I think has got the red safe look offly close yeah 27 point advantage in the second frame for CCU 43 on the table yeah looks like it’s just past the knuckle there so not going to be pocketing a going for the uh two cushion it’s is going to be a fun shot it’s a little bit short of pace oh no disaster for Lewa here that always can happen he could have looked like a hero there but unfortunately came up as a zero as he succumbs Four Points to his opponent not a bad shot to take though good try but wonderful play just shoot his right down to the top end of the table ring his Q ball back into bul it’s a thin cut into that side he’s going for it right gave it a a good amount of pace there just so if you just gently hit it there it might have stayed in the Jaws W that’s a great pop by Lewa there for he’s left him with a a tough black he’s going to put his Bridge hand on the cushion can’t put it flat on the bed of the table this has got a chance here everything except the yellow ball are on Its Spots so great shot off the pink to get onto the yellow so this frame in the hands Mr Chan all colors now on their spots just got to remember that practice routine that you do numerous times running the colors off the spot just stay in the moment don’t get ahead of yourself just broke down on the green it’s just what pressure can do did he just get ahead of himself just a bit too much so 14 in the frame 25 on the table so CC needs green and brown let’s get us to the Snookers required look at that shot very nicely done let’s put lean the snooker should be able to get out of it just the question is where is this Q ball going to finish and the green ball this will be going back so in this tournament in the round robin phases when there is foul and miss it is four attempts three putbacks unless we’re in the snooker’s required stage and as well when we’re on the colors if there’s more than three Snookers needed to achieve Victory it is an automatic concession it’s a bit surprising there thought leeah would have made a little bit of adjustments the caliber of both these players they might miss the first time they’re in a snooker but second time usually they can a rebound quite nicely ch see in that case now there are Snookers that are required couldn’t be put back but on that foul CC has the choice of shooting from there or putting his player back in looks like he’s got him in a snooker again be just a little bit of that green poking up on that brown but it’s thin yeah doesn’t want this ball to go in off that’s for sure he’s done well not to put his CU ball in the bottom of the pocket that would have been ball in the hand on the D and definitely would have been frame end match there for CC oh and there it is anyway the handshakes are there so CCU with a whitewashing victory over Le Leon Chan CC will be the winner of that group he’ll be moving on to the knockout phase that will be starting tomorrow Lew Chan fans he’s still alive he’s just second place in the group he’ll be moving on to the knockout phase as well just might have a tougher opponent than CC does so might just uh step aside for a few short moments we’re just going to set up maybe with a postmatch interview with CCU just a little bit of uh housekeeping notes um got an announcement to high break so far 67 from Steven Wong in his match over on table 5 I think uh that was live over on the obsa channel Ontario SN tournaments if you want to check it out um but uh yeah other than that I think we also have the prize money um offici established for this event and I’m going to go set up a little postmatch interview with CC okay and I’ll be right over there momentarily so there’s the what the winners and the semi-finalists quarterfinalist and the run up will take the high break prize not a bad uh purse for this weekend and if we’re talking about money just want to put a shout out as we’re getting a lot of great opportunities for players in the Americas our good friend from Canada sahil nyer just won the Pan-American Open championship in Montreal about a month and a half ago he’s on his way to the professional ranks next year for the 2025 season they have created a GoFundMe page for him so go look at ww. gofundme.com to find out and sahil near that’s s a l n a ye R that’s how you spell his name take a look on that if you can anything he definitely will be much appreciated helping him fulfill that childhood dream of being a professional sticker player so we’ll step aside for a few short moments we’re going to do a little postmatch interview and then we’ll be back with some great game action from this 20124 United States national Snooker Championship here at MBC billiards in San Gabriel California e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e hey everybody welcome back to our extended broadcast here at the United States national championship at mards I’m here with the owner operator Steven W he buddy so Stephen you got the high break so far of 67 how do that feel and I miss the Brack yeah feel great feel great today mhm yeah uh how you feel the tournament’s running so far this is your second year you’re running yeah it’s a good tournament and you you guys doing good job and a doing very well yeah organizing everything for me yeah that’s excellent T in the USA excellent good to hear good to hear so you’re moving on to the knockout phase unfortunately not the leader of the group it was a tough battle against Tom yeah you pretty much have like a high break so far 687 and I think that brown yesterday was the shot of the tournament so far oh yeah yeah and Tommy is a very good prayer solid that’s why I just miss the chance yeah yeah yeah I will keep doing well on the local r one big question I have for you is as you’re the owner operator here at MDC Billiards and there’s many things turning but you’re so focused on the table you don’t get this dtive how do you turn that off and get into [Music] game just enjoy the game because sometimes I I I host the tournament I just want to people enjoy the game and I try to practice and practice and enjoy the game and even though I just sleep 3 hours per day it’s so tired right now but I believe enjoy great host and he’s got a wonderful room here at M build definitely if you’re in the Southern California area in San Gabriel pay a visit over here cuz not only is the snooker great they’ve got Chinese eightball and the buy ball and N ball so definitely a hot spot here at membc Billiards for great so thank you Stephen and we’ll talk to you soon everybody thank e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e hello everybody and welcome back to the 2024 United States national Snooker Championship here at MBC billiards in San Gabriel California got another exciting round robin match here with harif manmo taking on Lis Kish kishan it’s correctly pronounced it’s first time I’ve seen Loris on the table it’s nice to see that we’re getting new faces into these tournaments but has definitely been around for a while he’s got two victories in the group so this is his last match in the group stage like to have a clean SE sheet so he’s got a high seed in The Knockout phase that will start tomorrow maybe just a little pacy on that safety shot he’s open the door for loris it’s David Bernie in the booth we’re happy that you’re all out there as well joined by Christian youngers who’s doing a lot of great work teching make sure all the pictures are clear and the sound is pleasing to your ears and that’s just Z was a bit strong Lis a bit weak so how you doing Christian not bad Dave how’s it going got a good start today looks like things are getting rolling a bit more quickly than day one as well so players maybe getting to it um but yeah Loris there trying a bit too hard to hold position for the blue you know I think uh with more and more tournaments that are happening in America more players are getting akin to the pressures and the feeling and they’re just practicing more just kind of wanting to be the best at the tournament so the standard is rising right and as well you know we’re in the digital age so these tablets they use for scorekeeping that directly goes to Cloud snooker web page to help all the fans that can’t join us in the room keep updated scoring they’re getting more used to that device and that just benefits the game just much much more yeah I think also players getting more used to the tables as well we saw High break finally established in the tournament 67 from Steven even though he had an errant Miss on the black apparently could have been a much higher break opportunity but you know I think it’s only matter of time I think before we start to get close to the Sentry Mark in one of these high breaks in the in the group stage know rat denka is going to be coming up later on this afternoon with a match in a best of five since his group is only three players with the with withdrawal and um yeah plenty of SN to be played this is only day two we got two more days of knockout stage after today once we figure out which players are going to be advancing and head to Cloud snooker.org as well as what the bracket will look like and what the groups are currently set at so Arif with a Miss there on the blue into the left middle not going to leave much for Loris should check this group and see what the status is hope I can just clip off this red that’s on the right cushion get himself safely into bulk okay so for this group looks like Mustafa Arif SAR and Loris are playing um the other match between SAR and Mustafa is happening on the back table s but so far I re at the top of the group with two wins if he were to win this match would solidify his spot as the number one seed in this group meanwhile I think Mustafa doesn’t have a chance to get out of the group any longer so it’s going to come down to Loris and Street R what they can do granted I guess if Loris wins Shar wins there’s going to be a three-way tie for uh first place so that could be it’s going to be messy yeah but uh for Arif we know win and you’re in so I know he’s goingon to be trying his upmost hardest utmost effort to get out of this group Lura still has a chance especially if he does get the win but he going to want to get a high break because I don’t know where the other two players stand in terms of high break we’ll see I think somewhat the tiebreakers are frame differential possibly head-to-head and then the the high break yeah something along those lines I think we can clarify that later but but I don’t know we can ask a ja in a little bit to see what what that is and if that’s all tied up do we go to a blue off the spot I actually don’t think that’ll happen right H maybe I don’t know it’s possible I think High break would possibly no high break wouldn’t determine it you could be tied on high break right technically so you could be the chances of that I’m going to buy a lottery ticket if it that happens right there must be one contingency somewhere AR the small Advantage early on in this first frame 14 to nothing over Loris Black’s kind of tied up but Pink’s out in the open but this probably just going to be the usual safety shot of clip off that doesn’t have the pace s does have the option to put him back in oral Miss original position this midle pocket is definitely tough you would think they would be a bit more generous as they’re shaped a little bit different than a pool table they’ve got that curve in the pocket whereas a pool table has the 90Β° cuts for all right just got an update from uh tournament director J that uh it is going to be like we said um match wins first to determine the group then if that’s tied it’s going to go to frame differential to determine who wins the group after that we’re going to go to head-to-head if it’s a two-way tie to determine the group and then finally it’ll be uh High break and if all those are tied I don’t know if there’s a plan for it but I think we’re hoping that that doesn’t happen that’s what it sounds like so w I’ll throw my suggestion into the hat if all of that is tied why don’t we go to a blue off the spot from the D yeah yeah it’s not a bad choice I think uh I think it’d be fun to watch as as well as stream on the main table would be quite dramatic as well true a few years ago at the BC open we did have a incident where that did happen that we had to have a tiebreaker and we had to blew off the spot and you could not believe all the energy of the room focused it on that table really exciting stuff so and that was a three-way Tire if I’m not mistaken right mhm our good friend Francis Cho was involved in that if you’re tuning in Francis hopefully everything’s all right back up uh in the Washington state area you know she and uh her family got hit a little bit with that Cyclone bomb yeah for she she wasn’t able to make it down yeah rough weather out of Seattle knocking out a lot of power in the last week we’re getting into the winter season so these things can happen but not in Southern California it seems like it’s always sunny and 72Β° yeah it’s not a it’s a pretty good chance that that’ll be the case I think in soal for the most part um does get hotter though in the summer that is one thing all right so Loris with a good chance haven’t seen too much of him in this tournament looks like he’s struggling a bit as well this table does have a bit tighter Pockets so got to be a bit more tidy with your all pocketing accuracy it does however though with the faster cloth it’s got smoother cloth St super fine as opposed to the 6811 that you find on the other tables if you guys know your cloth you know what I’m talking about but uh does play a bit more slick and quicker in the rest of the tables it’s a good trade-off in my opinion since it makes position play a little bit easier nice stroke there from AR that extra little roll is going to be perfect to get him straight dead straight on this pink into the right center he can easily screw back if he has up straight enough angle to play the red closest to the QQ ball down to the right corner as he was kind of looking at that angle there looks like he might be going a bit towards the Pink Spot though so might have to pick a different red although nothing immediately obvious to get on so over ran his position if he was playing the red left of the black spot might still have a back cut on it though what do you think think he’s kind of in no man’s land there yeah just going to shoot this up table huh we got someone saying hi in the YouTube chat how’s how’s it going the Turks Reno look at this shot overcut by a margin but not going to leave anything easy on let us know where you guys are watching from too um got a lot of channels doing a lot of coverage of this event and if you’re enjoying the stream drop us a like subscribe to the channel help grow the sport Ox Billiards and Ox promotions San Gabriel Embassy Billiards snooker room as well as the Pan-American B Billiards and S Association all are streaming this event and a shout out to our friend over on the obsa channel Ontario snooker tournaments is doing some bonus coverage on some secondary tables here I think table five is going with Majid and Omar balsara that should be a good match if you want to watch that I think it’s live without commentary and with commentary on San Gabriel Embassy Channel as well as the Ontario snooker tournaments snooker channel so a lot of good action going on oh he greetings from Belgium says the Turks how’s it going yeah glad snooker is growing in getting attention in America yeah I I do too it’s uh it’s nice to see hopefully we can lead the charge and get more events like this true and hopes one day that maybe a professional ranking tournament can come across the pond it snooker still is pretty UK Centric ouch Loris Loris Loris nothing going well for him in this one and here’s a thought I know that these are tough obviously the best of three matches you know when the wrong move and you could be sitting for quite a while but it’d be interesting if you know you’re gauging your opponent and uh the first frame it seems like Loris is struggling a little bit a reef might be a bit stronger of a player and if a reef is to break off in the second frame what are your feelings of just smashing the Reds Open putting the pressure on your opponent to make a break I mean that’s the idea behind kind of more aggressive safeties you would say where you sort of cut the Reds in the cluster a bit Fuller try to break them out out open but still get your qball up table and it kind of definitely makes a big difference um you can tell certain players that like to get out into space and run sort of the uh the anti-ar Selby types you would say I think that was one big thing I remember from the uh 2023 um world championships between Mark Selby and Luca brell was that Luca kept opening up the cluster playing safeties like you said there are more attacking safeties that open up the bunch in the balls meanwhile getting a good Q ball so Mark Selby probably the opposite type would rather have everything tucked and nice and neat that way he can really get you in a devilishly tough snooker and kind of grind away at the frame sort of two schools of thought but I I agree with you here I think it’s a good idea yeah I think uh sometimes you put that pressure on an opponent to make a high break break sometimes it’s in foreign territory there’s not a lot of players that do have centuries or even have centuries in this tournament so I know when I get on the start to get on a break of three my back hand starts shaking we’re in unshattered territory so obviously it could blow up in your face if you you open up the Reds and you’re doing it against a skilled Potter could be sitting for quite a while but right it’s like it’s like we said it has to play to your strengths and and the style of play of each player obviously Oris in a tough one here just going to have to play containing safety but this is going to double kiss the ddk once again strikes and double kiss is only good in France yeah can I Reef do with this error by his opponent it’s a good pop he’s got to be nicely on the blue so once again off of the races I think if you’re AEF you you kind of recognize a little bit that Loris might be struggling with this potting so really to punish him it’s just a matter of not missing your colors pocket a few Reds in colors and then just play a decent safety and hope to get another chance at the table yeah I think re just wants to keep at that table get Loris just a few mene in his chair thinking about that double kiss Loris definitely has to have the mind of a goldfish and just forget about that shot more often than not players will get a chance N is a number six seed in this event I believe from what I saw in the in the bracket so you know get to number six seed or to top eight seed even in this EV without being able to do anything without being able to do something on the table I would say oh but there’s a mistake there try to do a stun run through a bit and just either hit it a bit too hard a little bit less Pace would let the the Cub ball sort of start to develop some rooll before it contacted to the pink or just a bit of a higher tip position either one depending on the pace you shoot it at you kind of have to pick and choose which one you like there but there was a tight window to play that stun run through for the loose red left of the black spot now a delicate roll up safety here roll up kick shot that’s going to be okay decent job yeah the plant might be available does look like it’s pointing at the red at the top of the four Bunch closest to the left corner he’s looking at what angle it has he’s going to have to cut the first red just like that down toward the bunch to get a an angle to make the ball into the corner yeah always always a little tough with the plant shots when there’s that space between two Reds when they’re welded together it just makes it that much easier oh nicely done yeah like you said it’s a little bit easier right with that mhm sort of closer position and Lis just have to kind of build on that you know that’s that’s a tricky shot that should you know hopefully boost up his confidence know that uh he belongs here beginning of this Frame hasn’t gone his way but it’s kind of dig in we one our usual viewers SC Manhattan saying hello over on YouTube how’s it going appreciate you viewing and shouting us out on the stream glad you’ve been enjoying the coverage and this is only day two group stage so it’s only going to get better and better the standard and quality of play to show what the the US’s best has to offer on the bay yeah it does the matches get a little bit longer in The Knockout phase you know the stronger players definitely will prevail and we we get in those longer frame matches that’s when kind of sometimes they might let their hair down a little bit in the early stages and you might see some uh big breaks High break so far is 67 by Steven Wong but I I’d be surprised if that uh stands the test of time oh and he’s left a sitter there for a reef it’s a nice angle the whole room here at Embassy bards as you can see the banner in the back there it’s backto back years that it’s Host this great tournament actually got some youngsters in the in the crowd today good to see hopefully they can get inspired and want to pick up a queue the mission is free down here we’re in San Gabriel on San Gabriel Boulevard in southern California come by and say hello Christian will be happy to autograph anything that you like is that so Dave let’s overcut the blue trying to get shape for this red was going to be tough with where the blue responds to get in that angle so not necessarily going to be promising but another chance for lorus if you’re lorious all you got to focus on is plain efficient snooker here get get your red in color down don’t Focus too much on getting two perfect on the position and this is G aai again disaster continues for Loris yeah he’s just unfortunately selling out a little too much um he’s been fortunate that AR Reef hasn’t really been able to capitalize strongly it’s both uh player first match of the day but they were in action yesterday but it is a little bit of a messy table those six Reds below the black spot just makes it quite messy so after this blue we might have a little safety battle with them clipping off the Reds this is a thin one he’s done well slightly overcuts it to the pocket but it’s going to at least get a look get PL of safety on the cluster of Reds here just sck off the left Edge try to get into bulk ideally behind yellow but doesn’t have to this is almost a situation I’m talking about you got a big commanding lead here you know your opponent is struggling what about bursting open those Reds I see yeah instead of instead of playing the sort of conservative safety I like it I think I think you’re right you know not obviously we talked about breaking it open off the break but in this situation there’s tough Reds there yeah in that case I would think about maybe clipping the the red closer to like a half ball contact a little bit thicker playing with a bunch of running right hand side and playing it two cushions out of the left corner in between the blue and brown or the blue and green to the upper right corner of the table and just kind of opening up the Reds out to the center as as well as you can I think you’re right too and it it helps get the frame kind of going a bit especially if you’re a stronger offensive player you don’t want to get bogged down into a back and forth safety Affair you’d rather kind of get on with things true we’ve seen it so often than not that sometimes these long safety exchanges that happen between the players and then all of a sudden one player falters and the opponent’s got a great chance to get in and they’ve all of a sudden forgotten how to pop right it can mess with your timing definitely happens a lot in uh in the the the pool game of one pocket I find a lot of players constantly playing safety back and forth back and forth and all of a sudden you get a ball in hand in the kitchen and can’t make a ball to save your life no matter how easy it is this is a good example though here if he can knock this in he’s going to open up the Reds naturally I like him to shoot this at PACE but he’s staying conservative also like I said depends on his style if he’s the type of player that prefers this type of game all power to him yeah he’s not fully playing with house money definitely has a 48 Point Advantage he is two nothing in the group stage so definitely winning this match for AR will push him into The Knockout but he would be winning obviously the head-to head obviously if he’s to lose this to Loris he’s obviously beaten the other two players in his group AR has but we’ve got the safety of being in the commentator box they’re down on the table they’re fighting for their livelihood and it’s Comfort level as well you got to play the shots that you are comfortable with know your percentages right I think ultimately that is the most important maybe that’s why we’re seeing a bit more conservative play from AR oh bit big Q steer there he saw it drag his tip from his right to his left pretty dramatically on that shot and I think that’s typically indicator of your body telling you you’re going to miss the shot but then you deciding to take it consciously anyway and your body kind of trying to steer the que into the right line as you you know you’re going to miss it this is going to be another mistake from lorice to leave a nice easy opener for marif kind of been the theme of this match nobody really jumping out of the room here AR not necessarily playing Stellar but doing just enough to let Lor’s make the mistakes played that with a bunch of TOS spin deciding to uh get some space off of the cushion I think he could have stunned it off of the rail played for a bit closer position on the green but would then flirt with getting behind yellow so just take your medicine pot this green play another safety doesn’t have to get perfect on any Reds it’s not worth missing the pot just to get that running right hand side in my opinion he had the ankle on that green got his CQ ball where he wanted to but unfortunately the green didn’t find home in its own pocket this is a good opportunity for Loris really needs to take advantage of this the greatest shape but it’s got to take little victories and that you know you can see him reeling a little bit as that red rattled a little bit in the pocket and then finally dropped you know a player is in tuned when their objects B don’t even hit any sides of the horns they just go straight in cleanly into a pocket yeah and it can often be settling too as as the opponent who’s sitting while watching your opponent and watching them pocket balls not so cleanly can I’m often be a boost of confidence while not at the table at least for me cuz you know that kind of the player is on the on the sort of teetering the edge of missing the pot on the next shot is he’s missing Center hole routinely yeah it definitely is a a large mental game tough cuz obviously arief has seen that Loris is struggling and sometimes some thought is obviously struggling a little bit really tie him up mhm that will even really give him even more headaches that has kind of been the theme of this one I think yeah you mentioned AR kind of more going on the defensive side not like uh we really putting offense there and opening up Reds as we’ve seen in the booth that Loris is just struggling just a little bit it’s first time we’ve seen him play so it’s great to see he come out Ops to take the pink into the corner I don’t know tends to be a preference there but I still feel like maybe blue into left middle might have been higher percentage pot like I said it being the player of preference typically just the way the blue goes into the middle pocket has a little bit higher margin of error be mindful of that green as he’s queuing over it oh I see yeah we apologize everybody that the pitcher is frozen hopefully you can hear us out there and uh there he is again the man of many talents Christian youngers comes in and saves the day again he just gave uh the computer a little bit of coffee and uh maybe one of his world famous espressos yeah just a bit of a hiccup there I guess so we are now in the snooker’s required stage with that red going down and with the color yeah AR just kind of doing his work at the table just making the shots that he should be making it’s kind of just been the difference in this one I think he’s got to just be mindful almost just uh just putting Reds in CU in the round robin if more than three Snookers are required for a win when they’re on the colors it’s an automatic concession got some more regulars in the chat showing up buck buck moose over on Twitch saying hello how’s it going at this cross double it’s going to drop wasn’t intending it so I had a pretty good CQ ball tight to the B cushions you know yeah interesting he rais the hand to the fluke I’m like that’s that’s my bread and butter right there I love a cross double you know with the maybe if the par goes in a element of safe possibly but it did bite me at our Club Championship back in Vancouver we were on the final black me and Dale we Brad and I tried to cross double and it just slowly creeped to the corner pocket and didn’t drop and sat for a sitter and Dale knocked it in to win the championship that’s tough two tournaments in this past year that I’ve lost on the final black yeah I feel like as long as if you’re taking that double on you just got to make sure you hit hit at the pace that it’s not going to stay in the pocket right that’s the only thing you can you can hope for so taking looks like he’s going to be playing the blue here natural to come in behind pink and black for a snooker oh looks like that’s a frame concession there it is so Reef Manu takes this Frame by score line of 53 to four and we will just uh a few announcements we have coming up Mr Christian oh there’s the owner operator he’s a ham of a character that’s for sure on and off the table stevenh Wong it’s great to interview and talk to him Christian young is there I’m David Bernie and that’s mink nerut she’s coming to Embassy Billiards around Christmas time she’s going to Dazzle everybody with her Wizardry at the table then go up to Canada at Master Q Billiards should be good fun she’s a very sweet lady we have lots of fun with her and as well our prize money for this illustrious 2024 US national Snooker Championship The Winner Takes $7,000 not a bad weekend for them but the runner up gets 3,000 not too shabby as well our two semi-finals for the Thousand quarterfinalists get 400 a piece in the high break 67 right now Steven Wong has could net him $400 but I think by weekend then that 67 might be race and we’ll probably see a higher break so here we go frame two Reef uh played a bit more uh the defensive break the usual break off I guess he couldn’t hear us talking that maybe he wanted to be a bit more aggressive so let’s see if Loris just had a little pep talk with himself in between those frames and see what he can come out with good long red that’s what he likes to see would have loved just a little bit more roll but get out ni long red that really helps to boost your confidence when you’re struggling a little bit in that first frame it’s a blind cut with the black we could stun in and open up some Reds that was a tough shot there but it’s got to good cuq ball has put a reef sight to the side cushion makes the shot that much difficult not a lot of the C Ball to work with oh Loris was gifted an opportunity there on that Miss by Reef just having a shake of his head just walking back to his chair e well here’s another opportunity for Lis going to drink of water composing himself don’t want to rush don’t want to force anything in this game want to be completely comfortable I don’t want to roll just a little more I think he might just be a bit straight on this yellow okay he’s okay he’s got some good Q Power too definitely has a few of the tools in the tool box that’s for sure maybe just shaking off those first frame jitters bridging over there probably going to have to grab the rest or maybe even the spider it’s the extended spider here he’s just now looking for just a regular Spider a little difficult with that spider just adds a bit more of difficulty great to Canadian players Bill War I once talked to a Canadian player Gary spencon mentioned that he was a horrendous rest player and so Bill grabbed Gary and said hey we’re going to play a couple frames a snooker and we’re going to use the rest for every shot just to own your skills not a bad good practice routine cuz sometimes practice can get a little dry it’s always tough to get motivated but if you can just uh add a few different kind of games so like playing a frame all with the rest really will help your uh rest play so we’re just finalizing some of the stream matches coming up in the next one and think we got some decent action coming up this is winding down here and so they’ll take the money and run a little small little break of eight talking about that the thick safety shot Christian might be in store here maybe a little bit thick get the cube ball up to bulk but it’s going to open up these Reds yeah it’s looking like you called it just right David it’s cut off the left side of the table as well for these open Reds Reef just needs to find the PATH back into the bulk area might be able to that top red the two that’s kind of left of the Pink Spot clip off that run in between the Gap come off the two cushions come in the other gap of the Reds oh he might have a red yikes see when it rains it pours for uh Loris here oh no oh but he can’t capitalize he was gifted that red obviously his last shot was more safety driven but fortunate enough for him a red did drop but then he was on a green and just couldn’t pot it to keep the break going this is very very awkward bridging here for Lis for this red into the top right corner what nicely to cut that path for that red that’s by the green she a thin cut going over four balls that’s quite nasty stuff you know your opponent was struggling in the first frame he’s found a little bit of form here in the the second but up a frame I don’t know is Reef roll the dice a little bit potentially take that red out in the open into the right middle certainly doesn’t like it using a couple pieces of equipment for so with all that gear arief wasn’t able to make the red Lis being tempted it looks like he wants to try this red into the right middle this is a risky shot especially when you miss on the far jaw it’s going to tend to leave you dead straight on this ball actually either pocket Miss tends to leave an open shot and yeah caught the far jaw so two nice open Reds for blue or pinks possibly with the the open red on the left side of the table closest to the green as well can hopefully get on the black there’s a chance here for a decent break let’s say slow down there a little bit or Reef maybe just take a walk around the table I like the red into the left middle cuz the natural cut is going to put him potentially on the pink into this right middle and then they could have this red here so obviously he’s at the table he knows what he’s doing but now he’s leftt himself with a long blue obviously the last Red might have been a bit easier than the other red that I alluded to to get on the pink but our good friend Cliff Thorn says sometimes you got to take that little tougher red to keep the break going to get on a color and then that easy red afterwards there’s definitely humbling that the uh Pan-American championships as I was commentating on a quarterfinal match with sahil nyer and Andy mclusky oh nice and seil came to me uh later in the day and told me that his wife was watching the match and I had made a comment uh about sahil’s queuing and stuff like that I might have said he might be popping up a little bit too quickly and he took that piece of advice and next thing you know he’s punching his C to England wow so you single-handedly are responsible for the uh the rise of sahil Nar I’d like to hear it I’m going to have to clip that one and put it up all over our socials David Bernie coach and uh tidbit helper extraordinaire yeah I’m sorry you just teed me up on that one I had to take it now little as you guys know I am a surrealist so I think outside the box sometimes and the you got to be creative as well as technical in this game yeah it’s interesting we haven’t seen it in this tournament and haven’t really seen it a lot in North America but I’ve used it a couple of times of sometimes when my Q ball is in around the Reds and bringing out the spider so I put my bridge hand on the shaft of the spider to queue over Kiren Wilson has done this oh really a few times just to have a higher hand Bridge correct to just get over those balls to hit your QQ ball to hit the object ball yeah nothing wrong with that I don’t think it’s anywhere against the rules so that’s a it hasn’t been brought up so I like it might have to try it he’s got an in between a few of these shots the blue sorry excuse me the yellow doesn’t pass into the lower right corner pocket so he’s going to have to take the rest shot here on the brown and with righted over the left Center he gets the right shot oh no oh no it’s left another opening it’s a bit tricky it’s not it’s not the easiest shot in the world you know can’t put a lot of pace on it just has to S thinly Snick this into the left middle played that well to get onto the pink Reef just for toring to his Q case to get that mini butt extension just add a another 6 in to the length of his shaft good pot there for arief now starting to feel it good red there if he can get black opened up it looks a little bit tight this window but I think it does go either way though he has option of pink if he doesn’t like it so is going to take the easier pink the black is close it means the red might not pass I think it does based on The View we have that’s a good shot at a natural angle to kind of fall straight on these two Reds into the left corner just kind of looking off the table at Lis he just his body language just doesn’t feel like he’s in it right now it’s it’s been a tough day at the office for him not comfortable really since the start of the the match I think had a couple early misses and maybe that that hurt the confidence but you know what in this game learn to lose it’s to win I remember when this young Scottish player was coming through the ranks and uh you had a manager by the name of Ian Doyle Ian Doyle rang up Steve Davis said come on up and do this little exhibition with this young Scott player and you know what I want you to destroy him so Steve Davis went up there there and uh won the match I think the frame lines were 102 101 maybe 103 yikes just a destruction and that young Scott was Steven Hendry there you go you’ve and see what happens there Pok the bear yep and Stephen dug in and like you’re going to do that to me well uh you set the mark with six World Championships hopefully I can defeat that someday and sure enough he did that’s the big question is now in the snooker world will ronio Sullivan get an eighth World Championship as he’s tied with Stephen Hendry they both have seven a piece yeah he wants it I’m pretty sure too that much is clear but nowadays it’s just it’s so difficult the talent is so deep so definitely potting pretty strong in this one but he’s lost his C Ball a bit here now tight to the right long rail I think he’s just waiting for some shots on the uh second match table to clear up before taking his shot attempt here he going to take this long pink I believe try to get on the red below the black so this going to be shot will tell us a lot about how he’s feeling if he’s ready to sort of take down one of the top seated players or not not quite there too bad we can get a close up that bridge hand was just nasty going over that middle pocket yeah pretty uncomfortable right the whole time mhm your fingers have to be quite uh the contortionist it’s going to have to use the rest I think on this shot don’t see him playing safety up table or with of the Reds down here 59 points on the table 22 in it in the second frame of a best of three match or Reef man mood has a onef frame Advantage I need to get this Frame done and dust if he’s Victorious he’ll be the number one seed coming out of this group and can enjoy his Saturday afternoon in Southern California and probably be back here knockout phase will start tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time obviously that’ll be our first batch of matches yeah we’ll have uh two rounds of 32 sorry excuse me 32 round of players so it’s going to be two rounds of eight matches since we only have nine tables available here at Embassy I think the schedule is posted on cloud.com in The Knockout stage if you want to take a look there we’ll eventually get up an overlay here so we can see it on the stream once the names start getting filled in on the uh final group stage today yeah it’s uh Moving Day 32 players will still keep their chance alive and unfortunately the 29 other competitors in this strong field of 61 players will be going home but maybe they can come back in the room tomorrow and flex their referee or scorekeeping muscles I agree I think that’d be fun uh interested to see when we get refs for The Knockout stage I think it should be guaranteed for the final and semi-final matches but uh we’ll see about the quarters now Loris just has to salvage as much as he can out of this Frame and in this match at this stage he should be able to play with a bit more freedom and bit more relaxed I would say since um it’s almost like uh if he’s gone through the phases of assuming he might be out of this one it should redu the pressure in my opinion about this you know the angle on that brown it’s a blind cut and it’s going to shoot his ball back down the table for the Reds whereas that pink is rather straight on but he’s brought it back down the table so maybe in a few turns obviously I think a saf is going to safety shot’s going to be coming up here bringing that pink down there can help him put together a big break if he gets another chance back at the table got a shot to nothing in the red closest to the right corner but I don’t mind him taking the pink there only because I think he’s in the phase right now just trying to build the confidence in the stroke more than anything so just get a few points down pocket some balls play a good safety sort of simplify the game for yourself so you don’t have to be too stressed about the outcome the tricky one to take on so I think looks like a high ball so he might be playing this into the lower left corner it’s natural to come across for pink so I don’t blame him he going to sell out a shot though this is what I’m saying I think if you’re Loris you’ve missed a few of these into the middle shots you shouldn’t be missing in the tournament think you got to just slowly build your confidence make two good pots here run away and play safe no sense in trying to complicate things the score line isn’t that much against you and still get back in this Frame pretty easily I even don’t mind taking the yellow here just to uh good angle easier ball right the natural angle for him put a pocket the yellow into the middle will take them down to the Reds and as you’re were saying yeah if you can make just these little breaks and run and hide that Brown’s in a nice position to roll behind up there near the Bol cushion it’s a good pot there nice little breakout as well going to have his choice of Reds here think the blind Cut’s going to be a safer option cuz you have the blue up table to play for as well as possibly bumping into the green to play Shape for the green or pink granted the uh straightness of the lower red does make it so that he can take on black if he chooses definitely an easier pot I would say nice shot oh it’s off the cushion a little bit so that just makes it a little bit more tricky being right on the cushion glue to it it will philosophy of taking your QQ ball and hitting object ball and cushion at the same time will just make that object ball hug the cushion and roll right to the bottom of the pocket I think this is end of break as well since where the black’s going to Spot Will mean it’ll be a tight window to get a potting angle on this last red so oh no he was straighter than I thought he’s nicely on the red I thought he had to go up table with more angle but did really well there now he can open up this green if he chooses he can also just stun up for the pink lower right doesn’t need to play a safety here either so I like going offensive can also float for a high black plenty of options yeah like you’re reling to Christian he’s kind of playing with nothing to lose so maybe that back arm just gets a little loose oh oh ouch sigi saying that not that a matters noticed that Abdul apparently did not make it to play yesterday so I guess the field is down to 60 uh that is correct yeah we can uh make that update on the next stream description thanks for letting us know there but that is correct I think Abdul had to uh withdraw from the event I don’t know if he was just unable to make it or what the situation was but unfortunately yeah we had yet another group now that had to do best of five action for their group of three does happen in the amateur game Life does get in the way obviously if this is how players made their living I think uh players are going to be dropping out like that always can be a little headache headache giving to the tournament director when you drop out in the last minute but uh we’re all understandable and the snooker world right things do happen nice yeah you can follow everything on cloud snooker um all the details are there for the group stage what the current standings are as well as the uh knockout phase we got tablets for scoring at every table so that we can get live scores up to date and uh accessible for everyone watching it home yeah this second frame a little closer only four points in it and 35 on Reef really uh blew away Loris in the first frame he almost got the snooker there but uh wasn’t able to get it so a little disappointed he’s back in this Frame though so leav an edge not going to be the end of the world actually had a pretty full ball I don’t know if it was enough to get the potting angle but this is going to settle over the corner slightly uh it’s gotten pretty thin now so anyone’s this one feels like essentially one big mistake might cause the uh the end of this yeah right now it’s kind of looking like that green ball is going to be really important cuz that’s the only really safe color ball looks like on table five as well we just had a completion of a match between Omar and Majid I don’t know who ended up taking it down looks like Omar might be the winner there as I think he was last at the table when the handshakes happened or before the handshakes happened yeah Lis trying to be a bit offensive there and trying to cut that right in unfortunately it didn’t go so he’s left a long pot opportunity for Arif here now it’s opened up the brown too not a lovely bump he’s going to have some free points here going into the colors and he’s got a nice angle just has to avoid cannoning the black really on this stun shot I think play two cushions or one cushion up for the yellow it’s kind of up to his own preference like two cushions just because of a little bit bigger stroke he can put on the ball but he’s having to take the one cushion just has a bit more distance to travel for this yellow taking a look at the score is he going to get behind that blue or is he going to try and cut in that yellow into its pocket I don’t think uh we’re going to be seeing a clearance in this Frame barring a double maybe into the middle pocket for the green would be the only way I’d see it so it might just play safety here it is a tough pot for not too much reward trying to get get him behind blue it’s not going to get it it’s going to leave at least an edge maybe a full ball contact oh caught the barest edge of that must have not had a lot of an edge Expos but I’m going to see maybe a three cushion yellow here with a one cushion on the Q ball to get in behind the blue or the brown Force follow that Q ball only put it two rails out of the corner and does have a decent C ball so that’s going to make it tough think it’s going to come down to one big mistake to pocket a few of these but the green definitely going to slow things down yeah I think this the yellow is kind of inconsequential luris is to take take it he’s going to cut the lead to seven points if Arif takes it he extends his advantage to 11 points there’s potential on this yellow to get behind the green looks like what Loris was trying to do there safe shot hasn’t left an easier opener Tor with a nice safe there it’s yeah it’s got to keep running for him so so could have ran a little bit further oh as he baited a reef to take in this long yellow it is kind of a shot to nothing but not like I said not a ton of reward with where the green lies has a natural safety as well if he wants to just double the yellow past to Blue and play the C ball in behind Brown off of one cushion he’s op to cross double it the other way hug it behind blue that’s actually a better choice in retrospect as you have blue and brown kind of hide behind at the same time I think he’s got the snooker there it’s looks really close definely by our camera angle Lis definitely will have the best Insight on how to play this shot right behind the Q ball he can see it I think it’s just super close maybe just put a touch a side just to swerve around that blue just for safety but the big thing is here is where’s QQ ball and object ball going to end up yep just a bit of swerve there it’s going to pump the yellow sorry the pink oh oh okay not bad mhm not a bad result this pink has made things a little bit interesting now too I think we might see the green opening up here on the shot too possibly if he just uh hold his cball there I think it’s the only real option is to either kick in behind the yellow or hit this yellow double full ball don’t think he’s going to cut it at the pink oh my goodness and that didn’t drop I can’t believe that happened flirting with danger there yeah I can’t believe they didn’t drop as our Irish friends been rubbing off on you a reef that was very lucky I thought for sure just be nice and safe and come cushion first and then hit into the yellow or yeah like said hit hit a full ball push the yellow up Table Away may maybe I mean I want to see what he was thinking about doing in those what was what was his actual uh thought process there I’m interested Inno cuz didn’t seem like he was actually doing either option could have been he was trying to go in behind it and just uh misgauged the sort of line with a bit of side on it causing it to Swerve off line a bit I don’t know this is more Akin of the shot that I was thinking about kind of just pushing the yellow up table first it was going to look unlucky cuz he hit the horn yellow did have a lot of pace I think it might have almost come back down to this end of the table where the Q ball is but we’re in a bit of a longer frame now I think too just because of where the green lies as well once this yellow drops still it’s going to be similar situation with the green W for that yeah like I said it doesn’t really matter in my opinion who makes the yellow is it still going to come down to this tough green along the left long [Applause] cushion and you can’t forget about this pink this pink is just very close to the top left corner all right we’re going to play BS here do you think this ping is going to drop with a foul or with a a legal shot what are your thoughts ooh that’s a tough one that’s a great snooker there for a reef I got a that’s a tough question there Christian I almost think uh it’s possible that it will go down the to help a player get some more points how about that answer however that pink ball goes down it’s going to help someone with points you’re shying away from my question I see Dave trying to get out of it I think someone’s going to going to foul it in in my opinion us Canadians are very neutral we don’t like to fight I don’t even think it’s a fight I think it’s just a question it’s an opinion just seems to me like the just the way that I reot that ball into the pink earlier it seems like they might be flirting with it but who knows maybe a a tight snooker or something leads to getting to Snookers acquired before that I think it might have been a little bit of a wakeup call there for AEF how close he was there and has to remind him that oh yeah that pink is still there that’s a little bit of trouble so what about this do you just roll the yellow down towards the pink M I actually like punching the yellow doubling it toward the black playing the C ball in the gap between the green and the rail cuz I think that’s a nice place to hide behind and it’s kind of like once you get your line right there’s a decent amount of space decent margin of error there to try to get in and worst case scenario you end up you know jacking him up over the green but only problem with my shot is that you might leave the the yellow somewhere available to the upper corner Pockets he didn’t take either of our shots and uh he’s left Loris with a mid-range yellow I think this Frame really is going to get determined by the green now we’re on to that green that we’ve been talking about a lot see really wishes that pink wasn’t there there it’s close win the bet Dave huh called it I never made a wager I I don’t I don’t know what you’re talking about you you you told me clearly you didn’t you didn’t even want to say yeah I I I wore the Swiss flag there you know well we called it I think he should have hit the left side of that green Q ball is going to come off the cushion uh thanks for your opinion Gordon but uh you know we’re just trying to grow the game here so don’t know how relevant that might be it is true there is uh a big history and we do know snooker allas fans here and even people in the game over in the UK definitely see that it’s still UK Centric you know it’s supposed to be a world body they’re doing their best to grow and we are seeing it in a lot of pockets there’s a lot more opportunities in the Americas four players to pursue their dreams of becoming a professional suer player yeah this was always a natural safety try to get behind blue big benefit he’s gotten tight to this bulk cushion it’s going to be difficult for Loris not to leave the brown somewhere available 16 points difference now means a inching closer to the SN criser qu mean you think he’s going to get it with the brown blue maybe this is a key shot I think Brown has a Rees frame ball and yeah just going back to the uh player abilities actually Cliff Thorin was asked once um so who is going to be uh the next World Champion coming from Canada and Cliff honestly said I don’t think that person’s picked up a que yet yeah I can see it maybe a youngster someone that hasn’t found the game just yet and when they do well we’re doing our best to create that opportunity as I see some young fellas in here it’s also nice to see what you guys do up at Ox billiards in conjunction with the world women’s snooker organization hosting the US Open that’s going to inspire a lot of young girls to pick up a queue ranne Evans 11 time world champion women’s champion once commented that uh a little girl actually came up to her and was amazed and fascinated that women can play this game too I thought they were just referees no and we’ve seen some breakthrough too BYU getting to the uh Judgment Day final over on the UK championship this past week uh had a tough match against uh I think was still the favorite um Jack lazowski and uh put up a good fight in a few frames there but things got away from her but had some good matches uh so definitely Pro in the world that it’s possible as well uh mink nutr who is going to pay a visit here over the Christmas holidays at Embassy Billiards I think she gave uh Ron o sullan a little run for his money in the last tourament played I think it was a 63 victory for Ronnie but uh there’s a few frames that could have gone either way for the young lady from Thailand yeah not surprised I think it’s essentially a matter of numbers and getting getting more and more people into the game what it’s going to come down to I feel ultimately this is a fortunate double kiss not the ddk we call it double kiss but the uh fdk fortunate double kiss I’m still working on it we’ll we’ll get back to you on that Dave true and you know as nii said you know one cannot uh must learn to walk before they can run you cannot fly into flying so that’s what we’re doing here we’re learning teaching all these players this great game so soon enough oh good kick attempt from Arif there played it at a good Pace as well that he wasn’t going to leave a free ball and he missed the contact and sailed past that so he’s out of this pickle and still pressure on Larice to get back in this Frame Amad Ali has done wonders obviously for the game vers American in a long time to get over there at least uh the red white and blue is on the circuit sahil n as we’ve mentioned in the broadcast is going to be going over the next year representing Canada so and there’s also a Brazilian on tour right so the ban Amer mhm Victor sarus was over there for a couple years eigor figuro eigor yeah Fabiano who won the seniors event in the PSA Championship this year we’ll be over there at The Crucible theater for the world seniors Championship so baby steps if anyone’s a fan of uh the race to the moon we all know that Apollo 1 didn’t make it to the Moon it took the 11th mission to get there yeah with the with the blue so available over the pocket think the key is going to be the brown who can pot it and get shape just watching some side action on the other tables as all of the uh tables are in action here at Embassy as the next round is started yeah Loris if he’s going to want to push us into the decid he’s going to have to cover a lot of Real Estate once again he’s had a little bit of a result ah yes Gordon the man in the white suit that was just a phenomenal 147 Break by Kirk Stevens Great Canadian player interesting enough do have a friend of the community the great uh Charlie Brown obviously plays in a lot of tournaments fortun can’t play in this one as he is a full Canadian player as this is just uh exclusively to our American players it’s the US national championship but Charlie was back uh in Toronto area right around where Kirk lives and uh they were watching Kirk’s 147 and Kirk had never realized that when Kirk was on that yellow that 447 I believe it’s the yellow you can hear a fan in the background screen come on Jimmy so feel free to take a look at YouTube and crank up the volume a little higher some long pots that Loris needs to put us into the decider here angle to hit the blue and come off the ball cush and come down for the pink into this pocket that he’s queuing over let’s get in down to the final few balls arief does need this pink and black to put us into a cider or Loris I mean AR just needs the pink but a re at the table he’s in control of his own destiny just a little black being a little bit of an annoyance wow great pot there needs to run run run look at this shot what a pink what composure so Lis struggling a bit at the beginning of this match has put us into a deciding frame so we’ll step aside for a few short moments and come back with the frame three of this exciting round robin match stay tuned everybody e e e e and welcome back everybody to this deciding frame between Arif manmon and Lis k isan so both players haven’t been at Peak Performance definitely uh Lis was selling out a lot in that first frame but the as Christian alluded to in that last frame he kind of was just playing with house money his back was up against it and so often than not we see when a player uh is up against it they just start producing the goods it’s kind of when you fail so much you’re down the bottom when you fit the bottom there’s only one real way to go and that’s up and lurus has found it if luris finds something to take this deciding frame this could make for a very interesting group lurus has one win to his credit Reef has two so win by Lis would put his record at two in one and make arief two in one and their other match with surrender and Mustafa sure what’s going on in that match not could have a Paramount importance on this one but definitely take a look at cooker.com that’s cloud snooker.org you’ll find the live scoring you also find results and where everyone stands in the group stage as that will come to a conclusion today and we’ll find out who are going to be the final 32 to start The Knockout phase tomorrow I had to step out for a little bit missed it but looks like Loris took that one down must have cleared up and gotten the brown down and blue pink black it was a yeah long brown long blue had a fantastic pink that just put him absolutely Plum on the black okay and took care of business because pretty much one falter there and arief just needed that uh ball that he missed to put into a Snookers require almost frame and match winning Affair but as we saw foris held ground and he’s pushed us into a decider yeah stole the frame nicely done Gordon’s telling us this snooker app for Android phones called The Friendly monster it’s a very accurate representation of the game okay we can check it out you can see wasn’t wasn’t lined up there his body was telling him immediately once he stroked it drew the que back away from his Q ball this tells me his body was not in sync with the shot unfortunate that he’s left this over the pocket as well yeah this game can be come down to momentum at times obviously he was looking strong arief in the first frame but the pendulum has swung towards lorissa’s favor now uh thank you Gordon it’s called actually total snooker developed by friendly monster my apologies and he’s come up on the right side of the blue when we mention the right side of the blue the natural angle after this blue goes into the middle pocket we’ll take him down to the business end of the table but you got to make sure of the blue e just shows how tight those pockets are that red ball rattled in the Jaws but just couldn’t find home at the bottom of the pocket he’s going to give his go at this red into the same pocket just going to be mindful of all those balls that he’s queuing over doesn’t want one fiber of clothing to touch one of those balls as it would be a foul e e it’s got hopefully they can find the Gap through here coming off the top and then the right cushion on this red that’s close to the top left just got a little disturbed by a table looks like there’s a little disagreement so we just hoping that the you handle like gentlemen and reef has recomposed himself is bothering him a little bit you know always good to if something’s bothering you get up from that shot once you’re down and you don’t have to take the shot right away yeah re really put off by this uh other table he’s just motion them just to chill out guys calm down and looks like uhof is just coming to find a tournament official two competitors on that opposing table that had the disagreement have done the correct thing they’ve removed themselves to the table they’ve come out of the plane Arena found our officials J PR hacker head of USSA as well and Matt Seth cooler heads can Prevail and they can come to a solution and play on but in any case they’ve come off the table and now Arif can put his concentration on building up a good break it can happen on moving day there’s a lot at stake here nobody wants to go home early looks like it might be able to float up naturally for the brown maybe even the blue love to get the blue back on its spot just queing over the black got to be mindful yeah Lis just coming over to take a look where right now we don’t have referees at all tables so when your opponent’s at the table you act as the referee was tricky but most all the players we have here definitely know the sportsmanship just even one little fiber touch reminded of my first commentating gig way back in 2016 in Montreal at the rich ler cup we enjoying a match with a fan favorite Charlie Brown was at the table and all of a sudden he came up and walked back to his chair and sat down called foul 4 all of us were puzzled by what had happened and a little piece of his shirt had caught a ball and that is a foul Reef 16 point Advantage but uh lots of Reds open for the taking Black’s kind of really out of the question here Pink’s got some possibilities yeah red close to the right middle is blocking the path for that uh Second red just below the pink closer to the black spot so got to be mindful of the inof here it’s always a threat it’s got to be a thin thin Snick on that red closest to the top left corner he’s done well to avoid it done with a bit more Pace to get into the bulk area but an easy starter right now for Arif just a little squirly with that follow through through left the red into the right middle for Liss forunate needs it to run a little bit yeah this this pink definitely goes into both top Corner Pockets but there’s Reds blocking the path for it if he takes this green it’s going to Canon into the yellow not a bad kind of shot to nothing Loris kind of noticed a little dances around sometimes he does a couple feathers sometimes he does more feathers it’s always good to get yourself in the same routine whether you feather twice or four times good friend in Canada Phil snake you watch him he really kind of quickly does his Feathering back and forth about five times then settles himself and then slowly draws back the queue with a great deliberated pause in the back string and drives the queue through but he does it every time and that’s the important thing keeping it simple not de de deating from the norm for he left enough of that red by the black Lis having a good long look at it doesn’t go but he does have a red to the right middle just stun right there he’s got the pink into this opposite top corner pocket a bit of distance going we’ve seen so many times at this US National Tournament as well when we’re here a few months ago at the embassy open these middle pockets on the TV table just refuse a lot more than they take in got to be pinpoint precise let’s pop that out looks like a potential shot to nothing here for Loris that red to the right of the pink be mindful a little bit of the in off if he’s trying to do poot on this red that’s left of the pink is there a pathway for that angle for that red just sitting right by the top right corner re taking a good hard look at it obviously he’s kind of bit tough with all those balls around being a right-hander it’s a little bit more easy doesn’t look like there was a pathway there maybe playing this long plants a lot of Danger on this shot that’s really getting clogged over there I think there’s a pathway that Loris could maybe cut that middle of the three Reds by the top right re’s got a 15-point Advantage but many red still on the table in this deciding frame of this round robin match Reef if he’s able to win it he’ll Coast Into The Knockout phase if Loris takes this both players will be two and one and they the result of their other group match how those players are doing definitely look at cloud.com that’s cloud snooker.org for all the results the intensity that these players bring they always sometimes can find a way to crack a smile between each others Loris just wanted to act like Moses and part the seas of those two Reds to open up a pink for him into the top right corner e 3 e e definitely very easy plant there for her Reef the result of that red re just coming around to inspect where any it’s hit that rev there is possibility that it could just rattle in the Jaws so doesn’t want to take this red lightly that’s for sure very nicely done I thinking taking that three ball combination plant shot put them in Prime position for this ping cuz the two red plant I don’t think there was a color there afterwards just got a bit into it a bit too much but he’s still at the table get a nice recovery shot on this pink he’s got some open Reds well he’s holding his composure well these are tough shots but he’s doing doing well we giving Loris an easy starter looks like he can stun up for round blue obviously blue would be nice to bring it back down to its spot for that black does pass the red near the top cushion nice cannon into that red to hold for that black so good little opportunity here for Loris on this red just broke down there it’s nervy in this decider Sor re is not punished Loris for that uh last red that he missed oh he had an opportunity forun not that red just came up enough that it’s real thin thin cut not one I’d like to take that’s for sure and just 15 points in it 65 67 on the table just excused himself to have a quick Comfort break we’ll just let everybody know that our good friend mink nut’s going to be here at Embassy Billiards go Google search Embassy Billards to find out how you can get into this great event she’ll be here around Christmas time and then she’s going to go Northbound above the 49th parallel up into Canada anding a great Exhibition at Master Q Billards lots of fun had the chance to interact with mink a little bit at the women’s US Open there in Seattle in the past couple years and just a sweetheart of a lady and a great Potter that’s for sure a well accomplished snooker player that’s what everybody’s playing for this weekend lots of money at stake there The Winner Takes home $7,000 a runner G gets 3,000 two semifinalists that don’t make that uh final match each going to get a th000 with the quarterfinalist getting $400 each followed up by the high run break of the tournament at $400 right now it stands at 67 for Steven Wong we’ll see how long that lasts I think uh once we get into The Knockout phase tomorrow the hyp rate could uh be erased may be potentially a century as we’re going to have some Heavy Hitters in The Knockout phase and the matches uh get a little bit longer these PR of Threes can be a little nervy as the strong players if they don’t get their groove on early they could be uh up against it and an upset easily could happened was tricky black but that’s one that he makes more often than not but I think he’s got a result here is that red has blocked the path for these two Reds as closest the Q ball into the middle pocket wow well done not at that distance is a tricky plant Gordon yes they do Gordon’s asking about when they cloth the tables are they aware of the nap as uh snooker tables are a little different than pool tables with the cloth that’s putting on snooker tables there is a nap so obviously when you’re going from the top end into the bulk and there’s a little bit of friction here going against and yes they arew cuz our good friend Simon Barker fantastic table mechanic out of Sheffield World traveler came over and did these tables so fortunate enough that looks like that brown has uh covered the potting path for a reef on that red close to the left middle tap on the table acknowledging a good containing safety shot there that red by the pink has blocked that potting path for Loris for that rather sitter of a red very nice shot there that red is on the more top side of that middle pocket so if Arif wanted to put it in he’s going to have to do some fantastic work to come off a cushion or two to clip it in e very nicely done there by arief it’s giv Loris a lot to think about for he was able to knock it out of the jaws of the pocket and sort of okay red definitely is still poble into that left middle oh just that Trace aside has helped them just get off that top cushion be nicely onto the black fortun he might just be a little straight on would have liked a little bit of angle be on the low side of the black so the natural angle takes him up for that red near the right middle pocket uh bike gared unfortunately C is not playing he had his final match earlier today on the stream table and was Victoria so his group State standing is 3 and0 a clean sheet for him we’ll definitely see him tomorrow in The Knockout phase very nice that’s a tricky pot looks easy on the TV but just going along there one little bump on the top cushion before it hits that pocket we’ll spoil it looks like we’re going to get down to the colors again he’s got a good cuq ball tight to the cushion there and that black could be an angel or a devil for one of these players just sitting there so nicely if this final red goes down and a give me for whoever player gets that red to get out to that black but sometimes with the final ball Ball’s kind of sored around a lot you never know what ball could hit that black and put it into the bottom of the pocket and give your opponent seven easy points wow what a result there we just taing the table knowledge got a great snooker there Loris could be right back in this frame so here’s a handy way of doing things when we talk about putting a coin down to Mark the ball or a little piece of chalk taking the Q ball marker with a Taylor’s pencil but moris just pulled out his phone took a picture of the table so things need to be resp spotted they’ll have an ex accurate pitchure to put it all back together e just showing to have a little bit of chalk players in ingredients so always helpful if we can get referees at the table was a good idea if you like this game want to see it to continue to grow scorekeepers and referees are a really nice asset to have check out snooker USA e very nice do come too many penalty points hasn’t left uh Loris an easy po try and get back there again just didn’t get the right angle but haven’t left the red in aaable position keep quiet bretty big red ball here obviously with that black over the spot over the pocket I mean true I agree with you B Garrett and the Americas you know they don’t call it a snooker a lot do call it a hook sometimes I think uh and the Americas as well call it position or they call it shape rather than position has been the huge amount of fireworks it’s got definitely tense it’s getting more and more tense as we reach the climax of this deciding frame next match on the TV table is schedule for Dave Dy and Sam McGrath let going nice CU B there so b g I haven’t actually met Randall a while ago and we’ve spoke a little bit here and there that’s a result there what a fluke he had and actually I think Randle has stepped away a little bit um his work commitments came in the way so he stepped aside as an official for snooker in Canada when I talked to him once he was open to potentially getting back he’s just been out of the loop for a little bit sometimes happens that life gets in the way but we always know snooker will be there e going try two cushions here just make sure L you wait till that Q ball stops I know obviously the red wasn’t hit but uh on a sto player there ball rolling and an opponent touches the the ball could be a foul third attempt third times a charm one more attempt after this this if he is to miss can it into the blue sacrifice 13 points it’s now 41 a piece so one our operator and co- tournament director Steph Wong has come to the table so they’re just kind of taking a look back on the stream just to see where that blue ball was this is the 2024 United States national Snooker Championship here in Embassy billiards in San Gabriel California it’s moving day round Robble will come to a conclusion today which will produce 32 players that will start The Knockout phase tomorrow if you’re in the neighborhood feel free to stop by admissions free they’ve got some cool drinks great audience in the room here so thank you very much Stephen for his work to get that blue back on the correct spot we’ll see what arief can do with the fourth attempt so now Loris has the option obviously to take on a shot or put his opponent back in from that position just one little snooker can uh change the complexion of a match oh but that double kiss he might be well he’s not tight to the cushion so Reef has a a little bit of the QQ ball to work with oh now the pink balls gone close to a pocket so they’ve taken four two pockets out of play leaving only four open I think this Frame just got a little bit longer obviously whoever’s to take that red will have an option of black or pink that is just sitting over the green and then the top right corner pocket respectively e got to watch out for that pink it’s going to pull up very nicely wow a reef does like to dance with danger for sure last frame he almost uh put in a pink that was just over the pocket unintentionally definitely awkward queuing here Bridge hand on Pockets going over the pink successful e might be able to shoot this ball in between the Brown and the yellow just come off the cushion with this CQ ball get behind the yellow TR a bit more safer shot that’s why up I’m up in the booth and they’re down on the table come off the bulk cushion just has to hit that uh red rather squarely because if he hits it a little bit thin might shoot towards that pink well played where is that Cube all gone wow it’s time for Loris to get a little bit of luck there exactly sure the frame time but this is definitely uh looking like one of the longest frames that we’ve had in the round robin affair on the TV table wants to go cushion first then run into the red oh my goodness what a result there tough to see don’t think there’s an opening enough that black was just out a few more millimeters it’s potentially maybe there might be a gap for the red to go in for oh yeah thought there was an opening willing it at all possible so black was bound to go happen that black was bound to go down at some point in time just unfortunate for Arif it’s in a foul situation what a shot here by Loris see table is at the far end of the room away from uh the audience’s TV table but you could hear the Applause come through so 11 Point Advantage for Loris over AR Reef 35 on the table obviously pink is just a sitter for whoever takes this final red put Reef in a bit of trouble here be really costly bit too high for loris’s liking I’m pretty sure if if a reef is to miss and leave a relatively easy pot for Loris he’ll probably take it on and it’s going to be a bit profitable with that pink there by the green pocket much better attempt here where’s that Q ball going it’s okay it didn’t succumb too many pen penalty points how many more twists and turns do we have in this deciding frame all where’s this red going oh that would have been a massive fluke there I think that’s a thin thin cut there for Loris but it is there really doesn’t have to worry too much about his Q ball as the pink is just sitting in the jaws of the green pocket this want to come up that P cushion a bit more but does have a great opportunity to just get behind the blue really annoy his opponent even more with a good telling snooker that’s a different way of using the blue than I thought but equally as effective this is a tough one cuz you got to put just a little bit aside on this C looks like he’s hitting Center ball maybe there is a no he did put a trace of it just with that swirly follow through so 22 points in it there’s 27 on the table moris needs yellow and green to put us into snooker’s required stage lots of great support in the chat for both these players for just take a look does that yellow squirt by the brown tough to tell from our angle looks like he’s kind of Take It On full blooded got a nice little result there s we’s got some awkward bridging over that black oh my goodness just want to trickle off the bulk cushion just nudge onto that yellow forunate enough obviously that green is not right in the jaws of the pocket bit more that he has to travel AEF was getting a bit of the luck in the first frame somewhere that second one the pendulum kind of swung a little bit and now Lady Luck is definitely on loris’s shoulder that’s better stab fire camera for for he hasn’t got it tight the yellow to that cushion so kind of a shot to nothing with rear cuz the cube or the green ball is down here at the top end of the table no that’s the luck turn to Reef’s side he kind of nious result there he’s got a snooker might be a little bit to just pathway that he can get a little thin cut on the yellow certainly has been a messy tense deciding frame here think both players just kind of struggling for form these situations you kind of just want to go to back to funlan fundamentals remind yourself of the basics nice yellow with the rest pink and brown blocking the potting angle or ping path shall I say for this green to go into the top left this could be a result here look at this wow what a shot there by Loris he has definitely brought his snooker game here in this decider we just subtly shaken his head was obviously not fully intentional there he could have been steaming mad but with 20 points in it probably get two attempts on it at least yeah we thought in that first frame ID w at 53 to three thought he was the clear favorite thought we’ be done in dusted with this match pretty quickly as Loris was struggling a little bit he started to find a little bit of form had a little bit of luck you do need some luck in this game from time to time but most of the time it does come down to technique and really what you make of what is presented to you now trying to call Stephen to come over to get the precise positioning on these balls problem a little bit that can really slow down these matches in the amateur game that’s the one hurdle that we do have in North America really need a lot of people to step up and help out whether they be refering scorekeeping streaming producing commentary work just would help out with these delays because as a referee would come to the table and would spot the balls put his decision down or her decision and would confirm with both players hopefully both players would agree and it would be play on got a nice exciting match after this one Dave Dy will be taking on Sam mcrath grath I mean my apologies Sam he different practice s you know some players like to make it a little bit of a vacation as they’re traveling far places so when they get knocked out of the tournament they might go do some sightseeing but also be really nice if some of the players could step up and Dawn the white gloves Mana tablet so second attempt here this won’t be coming back if he misses doesn’t want to hit that black ball look that hit them simultaneously the black and the brown so Loris can put a reef back in from that position but obviously can’t put him back in the original position so 28 in it 25 on the table so Reef just needs one snooker in that area where the black and brown are if you can find safe haven over there just like Loris did in few shots previous be quite happy G’s got to put all his concentration into this green put that green into its own pocket there’s a lot of distance to travel for the object Ball but Cub Bolta object ball not a whole lot of distance so close so close great shot there by Arif he’s got the snooker Loris isn’t too concerned as long as he hits the green where anything ends up is not a problem be a successful hit or re still needs the snooker it’s not one of those instance where get out of the snooker and uh you leave your object ball in an easy potting position well he’s got this snooker so 25 on the table and 25 in it if a reef will maybe take the left side of the green and slide over potentially to the brown and black my apolog is 24 so AR if he is able to run out would take this deciding frame by one point all right just coming around to take a look at that P in angle just puts the concentration there Brown looks relatively easy after this but that famous last words great pot there Canon Into the Blue enough clear the path for the brown blue is relatively safe seems like there’s a larger level of low supporters in the fan group 78 to 47 oh what a double this is going to make this group real interesting not sure the other results of that other match there could be three players at two and one there’s going to be handshakes there what a turn of events harif mmud seemed like he was in control but Loris kishin in found something to claim a 2-1 Victory we’re going to step aside for a few short moments but come back and see us at the 2024 US national Snooker Championship here at MBC bards in San Gabriel California our next scheduled TV match is Dave Dy going against Sam McGrath join us for that in a few short moments thanks everybody bu e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e hello there and welcome back everybody to the 2024 United States national Snooker Championship here live at Embassy billiards in San Gabriel California we’re just about to get underway with NI another exciting round of Robin match between Dave Dy and Sam McGrath Dave Dy does a lot of support up there in Seattle helping out Ox Billiards as real Uncle to that room always willing to provide his support and Sam McGrath Works closely with a J PR Hawker on many papsa events so kind of a flip of a coin here I’m not too sure uh who’s got the advantage here both players uh decently skilled in pwning know the Tactical side I would be surprised if we go to The Cider but uh that’s whoever can take advantage of those opportunities when it gets presented to you Dave’s uh just stepped aside for a quick Comfort break and we’ll be getting into this match momentarily everybody it’s a best of three match so a quick Sprint see who’s Victorious if you want any results head over to Cloud snooker it’s Cloud snooker.org Championship tab as we have seven tables maybe even eight I can’t see what’s going on in the private room here at Embassy this Embassy has nine snooker tables eight out in the open and one in a private room as well we have other matches being streamed on the St Gabrielle Embassy Club YouTube page those obviously will be without commentary our good friend Rob Richards at Ontario snooker tournaments obviously hashtag obsa on YouTube he is streaming I believe the ending mclusky match I think Andy’s taking on Gia seek so tune in there if you want to get into that match but we’re happy that you’re joining us here on the Passa YouTube channel for an exciting match here Sam won the toss slected the break off and we are underway very nice break off there he’s left davea long red it’s the only open red there really that he has might play a little containing safety by heading off the left side of the red don’t mind that by Dave always getting a nice long red early on and a frame builds up your confidence shows your opponent that you belong here nice Red by Sam unfortunately uh bridg hand is going to be a little obscure he is on the right side of the blue might be able to take this red just above the black got to get to get that colored ball it was tough that bridging really is difficult oh look at where this Red’s going don’t walk away too soon Sam obviously with that fluked red a little delicate so we talk sometimes about many practice exercises and keeping it interesting cuz practice can get a little dry Christian when we were at the embassy open let me know of an interesting technique you know put a a dime on top of one of those bulk colors and that’s a good idea to practice your rollup shot as you can roll up just just hit it enough that the dime doesn’t fall so so many things to practice in this game of snooker you have to have a full arsenal of shots definely Sam up there in the San Jose area that’s where the papsa academy is so he gets a lot of practice on some great tables I’m so smart play didn’t have a r on so just took his points and run and hide want to tie up your opponent there it’s a nice long red there for Dave color is a little bit tricky but uh always nice to put one of those in let’s tell yourself that uh you belong here agreed by Garrett Dave is a real standup chap does a lot of great stuff big fan of the game there is something to be said about Dave in the world of snooker as you go down the list there’s many of them that’s for sure myself David Bernie Dave Dy Dave henden David Vine David Taylor David Gilbert I wonder if that’s why they put the D up there cuz there was so many days now that’s a story for another day anyways Sam’s left the Dave a little rather easy open red into the left middle here Kong Lee is uh part of the Sam McGrath fan club saying is quite handsome I’ll have to pass that along to Sam just a little too thin on that one but we left anything just a little fat but he might be fortunate da just gets a r smile over to the Sam might be a little bit of a path between this pink and blue for this red into the left middle here it is I would have loved to put this pink into the middle pocket got a lot of distance to travel here to go into the yellow pocket but having Q ball and object ball close together makes it that much easier little shot to nothing here e what think they should be able to get out of this it’s just Weir it’s this CU ball going to end up for see s made the right decision didn’t put him back in there b Garett if you’re alluding to Mike Dominguez unfortunately Mike Dominguez is not in the tournament I think Mike actually had to run back quickly to the New York Athletic Club he had some duties he had to fulfill there as someone had fallen a little bit ill and he’s on the staff over there and then he came back to Seattle and it just was too much traveling for him to come all the way down here but yeah Mike in the team at Ox buard is always doing wonderful work up there in Seattle see I’m just waiting for Andy mclusky as you can see on the right side of the frame had a nice little result there going to be V Dave having a good smile there he’s like can you get give me a break so Sam up by 22 points just this initial frame of this best of three round robin match this is a big match for both players think it more important for Dave unfortunately Dave lost his first match doesn’t want to go 0 and2 but Sam would love to be 2 and 0 going into his final match it’s a shot they’ like to have back it’s a thin cut but it’s relatively high on it Str so onet looks like uh Sam might just be a little bit of the stronger player here but uh da is a feisty Irishman I’m pretty sure he’ll be fighting to the bitter ends yeah if you get to make it down to Rochester Washington to see the in in the pocket Club I hear great things looking forward to making it down there someday just slid that in beautifully Dave very nicely done that’s interesting for these North American players always have people that have come over over there in the UK and Ireland so it’s always a little nerve-wracking for the Canadian American players when they hear that little twang in the voice cuz they know snooker is so ingrained in the culture over there they fear it a little bit actually Dave enjoyed snooker when he was growing up played a lot but then when he moved to America it really kind of disappeared cuz there wasn’t really a strong presence of it at that time and way back back in 2020 there was this snooker club called Bay opening up and Dave Dy got invited to play in The Border battle a two team two-player team event Canada versus us to open up Bay and Dave was one of the members of Team USA with Omar balacera and they were victorious Over Steven fand and Gary Wallace of Canada and that was the as Dave told that was the first time in a long time that he’s picked up his queue yeah we talked about Dark Horses there I’m liking what I’ve seen from Sam it’s been a nice first frame that’s for sure free flowing like both players going at their chances just like Sam’s captaining a little bit more on the mistakes that Dave has put down don’t think he’s going to need that uh brown and blue a little to tell the players are instructed at the beginning stages to just spot their opponent’s balls they’re not sitting over there by the tablet keeping a running score we’re seeing the sport gross hopefully with more and more growth at those people behind the scenes Sam’s really getting to know the pace of the table a a tall competitor so you see he’s kind of got the Ricky Walden stance where both knees are bent and just Dave taking a little look at the scoreboard he’s putting his queue on the table not going to concede just yet just wants to see what the score is and he sees that uh it’s going to be tough for him to come back so he concedes so Sam McGrath takes that first frame by the score line of 63 to 24 he’s got the first frame on the board but let’s see if Dave Dy can come back and fight his way in frame two to force us to decide her only time will tell when frame two starts in a few moments [Applause] and we’re back here with frame two of this exciting round robin match Sam McGrath definitely was in the driver’s seat in that first frame but always we’ve seen so many time in these short little sprinted matches a player that loses that first frame starts to dig in and starts to produce the goods so let’s see if the Irish born Now American resident topple the man from Silicone Valley but Sam definitely wants to get this match done and dusted yeah tough little shot here definitely uh D is not one of the taller men on the circuit it just makes it that much more difficult queuing over if you wanted to go and try that red into the top left corner not a great safety shot there by Sam he’s opened the door for Dave let’s see what he can do this opportunity is there Le you can click off a few Reds with colors you know why that shot went in if you watch Dave there he did not move until that red fell good piece of advice there for all you youngsters or newcomers really got to stay still you if you get up quickly there’s a lot of chance that that pot that you’re taking on will not go in what a shot there might be a thin little Snick there on this open red just to the right of the bunch still great shot there by Dave rather Force Sam to take in that one shot it’s always nice to have options great Rono suin said when you’re break building it’s always good to put your in a position where you have options of Reds say it’s a thinking person’s game but you don’t want to think too much good afternoon Chris lamb great to hear you tuning in putting his support for Dave we like to hear that whether you’re cheering for Sam or Dave either one put that support in the chat if you have any comments or questions let us know and let us know where you’re tuning in from it’s great game of snow is global it’s play played in over 100 countries it’s great to see that we had 60 players in this tournament we had more but a few had to back out there were some life issues some weather issues actually up there in the Pacific Northwest but having 60 players in a national championship in the United States of America is always a great sight to see a place where you don’t really think is quite synonymous with snooker I say these midle pockets are tough but Sam has definitely found out the secret with them he trying to cut this in tough it might can to that red red has popped up but it’s got a good QQ ball against that left cushion not sure if we have any uh Canadian fans out there on the stream but the history was made made a few months ago at the PanAm championships that sahil nyer has punched his card he’s got a 2-year card on the professional tour starting in 2025 season great to see for the maple leaf he’ll join the Ahad Ali the American that got that honor a couple years ago but the friends up in Canada they’ve created a little GoFundMe page for sahil nyer as it uh definitely can be a little bit of an expense transporting yourself across the Atlantic so hopefully we can uh give sahil a little financial support as he’s achieve that dream of becoming a professional snooker player they are improving obviously on the pro scene that the lower rank players do have a little bit of monetary value coming in even if they don’t win events at least something to get them going so they can focus on the snooker they’re not uh tossing a coin well I got to pay the rent do I go to my job or do I play snooker so great to see what wst is doing to give them it’s about 20,000 L to start off and then if they are V if they win some tournaments or win some prize money obviously that gets erased and they keep that but I think sahil is going to find just as aad Ali has is the talent over in the UK is tremendous it’s almost like you know the winner of this tournament might be a a big fish in a small pond and then they’ll go over to the UK and find there a small fish in a rather larger pond just might have rolled a bit too much there don’t know if he can get this past this cluster of five Reds for the potting angle on that red that’s open in the left Stu when your mind comes into play you just want to will it to happen yeah I’m almost like taking the right side of this red as the red will shoot up and down table and the C Ball come off that right cushion hopefully get behind the brown and green well things are starting to open up top end of the table it’s looking like if someone is to stutter in the safety exchange might be gifting their opponent a great opportunity see Black’s in a tough position close to that top cushion but pink and blue are out in the open didn’t want that red to shoot up table but fortunate enough the green has come to his rescue that might be the opening for Dave it’s a difficult starter you usually are what if you can get that opening red and be on a color it’s your table to control what going to cut it in the side wow that was dangerous good opportunity here for Dave that red pass that other red on route to the top right corner if it does he’s got a good angle to come off the cushion beyond the pink into the left middle see these Reds into the middle will help him get the pink into the other middle pocket short of pace there it’s kind of maybe just got a bad contact there CU ball got a little bit dirty that’s the referee and Dave Dy always likes to see a clean ball interesting he took that shot thought he might want to take the cut back on that red into the right middle but goes down to know your percentages that’s what you find out with practicing and playing what shots you excel in what ones need Improvement when you’re at a match in a national championship you only want to focus on those shots that you excel in don’t really want to take risky shots that you’re not almost like if it’s a 80 and higher percent shot for you you usually take it on Theory it works but sometimes uh ego gets in the way and the Brain just kind of plays tricks on you and tries to will you into a shot that you probably shouldn’t take going to nice for Sam to get that pink ball back onto its spot he got angle to come back down for the red [Applause] look at that red by the pink kind of like that one a little bit better just got to use the rest cuz that red into the right middle could Sun into it and get onto the blue but he will need a good angle on that blue to come back down table whereas this you can just kind of delicately roll through and have the pink into the left middle yeah that rests always makes it just a little bit more difficult but uh definitely we got to be really proficient with that tool as you’re going to need it a lot more times on a snooker table than a pool table one of the great rest players Sean Murphy alludes to really bringing when you’re got that Q hand Q arm really lift up the elbow you don’t want to keep that elbow tight to the body cuz then you’re going to be moving all over the place but if you lift it up high like a chicken wing that kind of enables you to have a good steady follow through on your shot Dave a movie buff there definitely wanted to get the DeLorean and go back in time that’s a pink he makes nine times out of 10 that’s a nice angle there for Sam on this blue to come back down to the top end of the table maybe just thought a bit too much of coming back down to that end of the table that he took his mind off the blue very fortunate a few years ago at the US Women’s Open at Ox Billiards we have the distinct pleasure of having on in the booth it’s really insightful hearing her technique and philosophy that she’s when she’s at the table she’s looking around seeing you know one two three shots ahead seeing after that red where she needs to go but then when she’s down on the red she’s done all the preparation just needs to execute the shot cuz she knows the plan will come to fruition and she’ll beond the color more often than not we see in the amateur players they you know have a relatively easy red they know what to do with the color but then they take their mind off that red just slightly F and forces a a Miss po s’s got a long red here into the top left corner blue is tight to the cushion he’s pretty straight on there way to hold his nerve there I’m almost with the maybe try that bluez the White’s going to still be up in that area if he gets the blue he’s still at the table and he’s in control and what a long red there by Dave when he goes back to the tape later today he’ll definitely be uh wanting to isolate that shot a beautiful red obviously he shot to nothing there as you can see a subtle little roll up onto the green what have loved to be a little bit tighter so maybe a little mistrick there want decent little containing safety shot there by Dave so close Affair here 1716 more looks like a rugby score rather than a frame of snooker frame that Dave desperately needs needs to push this to aider CU with one loss on his sheet going 0 and2 really spoils his chance to move into the knockout phase tomorrow but stranger things have happened on a snooker table in a tournament we’ve seen three-way ties at one and two in Rob Robins before four so obviously if D to lose to Sam he’s going to be cheering him on Sam that is in his next match hope we can go three and nothing so I don’t know if he’s got the cover on that red that he just hit nice attempts has a potential of a double here didn’t see that happening obviously wanted to hit some uh draw on it unfortunately sometimes a scooping action makes that ball jump jump shots are completely illegal in the game of snooker a great shot to have in your toolbox if you’re a pool player but was quite surprised there that uh that Q ball found the bottom of the pocket and yeah theyve that previous setup was just having a little laugh there with Sam as Dave put his Q ball very close to the yellow spot there and the big controversy over in the Pro scene with Hussein viari but he was called for a foul cuz he was just outside the D actually is one of the cases oh my that’s a result there for Sam but is one of the cases when you put the ball your ball hand in the D you can turn around and ask the referee are you going to call a foul if I shoot from here believe the referee can acknowledge yes or no actually Dave as we spoke about the Border battle just let to be th th on that but Dave back in the Border battle that we talked about actually was in that situation and uh he was very close to being outside the D and actually referee Tommy ha said that it was a foul Dave has gone back to the footage and staunchly protested that uh he wasn’t wasn’t a foul but in the end it didn’t uh proved to be costly as the Americans won that side and it was a fun event as well nonetheless there wasn’t there was more playing for pride rather than uh expanding your pocketbook it’s a decision time it’s a tough blue obviously he knew he was going to have that red on so he just had to put all the concentration on the blue and just shows you as much as that uh was short distance travel It’s Tricky when they’re along those topper bulk cushions da was hoping for a little flick on that black to knock it out pink is straight in line with the middle pocket so a thin cut is needed e nice attempt at the snooker unfortunately it’s not there definitely that blue is in an eye-catching spot if a player can find some salvation over there but the Cubo behind the blue be putting their opponent in a world of trouble look like Dave’s trying to do here good safety shot acknowledged by his opponent tap on the table the so once again as we see so often than not that these frames come down to the final six colored balls to give it some Pace he got up nicely for the yellow forun the pink didn’t find the bottom of the pocket norted the pink cannon into the yellow to disturb it a little bit it’s going to come down to that blue ball over there can get a good shot on the brown to kind of come over to that right cushion help him out a lot for that blue that’s the trouble sometimes when you slowly roll it over Sam does like to put these shots in Pocket weight but the problem is if you miss you leave an easy starter for your opponent little frustration there by Dave thought he got into it enough to draw it back to put him in a better position for this brown but unfortunately that’s not the case didn’t try to force anything saw that he had the opportunity to put the snooker behind the pink little bit of swerve here for Sam so just six points the difference in 22 on the table see was IR in that blue might be in trouble here it’s tough cuz da is going to have to hit this with some Pace to come off that cushion to come back for the blue and that makes those middle Puck is so much tougher might be able to glance off this one two maybe even three and be behind the pink just looking for the smarter safe shot create some distance between Q ball and object ball always a smart idea well that’s how you put it in the side players have a good smile about that so this pink to put us into a decider Dave not risking the cut Black’s in a tough spot though for Sam as Dave just needs pink Sam needs pink and black and this jostling a fair ha over the pink if there is a time Sam can disturb that black he’d love to do that but Dave definitely wants to keep that black tight to that top cushion doesn’t want to do anything with it he was going for it there he’s left the pot on for Dave just got to bottle his nerve put all your concentration it black is meaningless to him he needs this pink to put us into decider it’s there what a pink that was strong work by Dave Dy he forces us into a decider against Sam McGrath we’ll be right back to see who will be victorious in this great round robin match e as we’re waiting for the deciding frame to commence there she is the wonderful tie player mink nerat going to be here at Embassy Billiards around Christmas time to do a great exhibition wow a lot of these Southern California Hees as well then she’ll be going northbound up to master Q to entertain some Canadians she’s definitely Feast for the eyes a great skilled snooker player if you get a chance to check her out you definitely won’t be disappointed well that’s what always everyone’s looking at you know but it’s interesting Rono Solin does say money comes and goes it’s the hardware that he’s going for he wants to build that trophy case but hey winning this tournament you’re sure going to get a trophy but $7,000 isn’t too bad for a long weekend here in San Gabriel California runner up will take 3,000 both semi-finalists that don’t make the finals gets a th000 each and our quarterfinalists that don’t get in the semi-finals get 400 in the high break it’s at 67 right now made by Steven Wong he’s in line for $400 but I think that might come down in the coming days so fist puns by both players Lots on the line here it’s been a fun little match you know hasn’t really got bogged down a lot I with some good safety play some good little small breaks and stuff like that some good pots so I did kind of say at the onset it was kind of a little tough to tell and uh it felt like Sam was in the driver’s seat in the first frame but we’ve seen that a lot sometimes that’s just the the push that the player that’s behind needs when they lose that first frame to Roar back Roar back into the second frame and take it which Dave has done and just got to focus his nerves he’s not out of it but definitely feels uh a little tough when you push it into de cider when you were that one frame away for for nice try for Sam to get in first with that pace it hasn’t sit rather easily for Dave as he baited Dave take in this red on it is difficult good reward if they’s able to put it in as that black is wide open to both Corner pockets how does Sam feel about this that’s enough of that with that uh red ball along the top cushion e [Applause] you know I’m not sure bik Garrett it’s tough to say I think we’ve heard that these are actually probably the tightest pockets on all the tables here at Embassy Simon Barker was overdoing the tables so you know he’s got all the templates and he does I believe he does the tables at the World Championships cuz he does live in Sheffield so uh obviously he’s under instru instuction from Steven Wong and I’m pretty sure Steven would like to have this as close to the professional feeling table as possible obviously it’s not his home table as uh the great Stephen Henry Once at his home table made the pockets a little bit smaller than the regulation just to hone his uh pocketing prowess that much better he’s not returned to bulk there come with the cushion and have this black into the right middle would have been like to been a little bit higher a little bit lower in the ball shall I say so the natural angle takes him back down to these Reds but he’s going to go in out of bulk here off this black can it into the green luckily he didn’t go in off there as that would have been Des disastrous little tough here to find the pathway back to bulk for Dave just play a containing safety try and get maybe his Q ball onto the top cushion come well he’s left a long red to the top left corner not really any desirable color down there everything was looking pretty tough so he’s going to come come back and say hi to the family colors just be able to sneak behind that green and the bul cushion that did hit you see Dave was at the other end of the table but great sportsmanship there I think of and Miss there he would definitely have acknowledged it as well again they’s in a tough position just to come back into the bulk area how do he find that Gap there want to had that red and just Nestle into some Reds definitely thought about it use all the pocket to find the bottom there well he’s got the red that little three just to the right of the black can take to the lower red he’s going to Cannon to stop the pace of his qall to hold for the black after this red he’s got to make the shot first looks like Andy McCluskey has won another match it’s good for the uh US national coach see take a look at him on the YouTube he’s got a lot of great coaching exercises there and you can find some contact information if you want to reach out to Andy comes to us from Northern California but obviously with the technology you can always do uh video conferencing lessons and such like that yeah it’s very nice to see this time of year Mark Williams you are correct we’ve got the UK champions championship and we got the US Championship he’s giving Dave quite an opportunity here doesn’t show any emotion but he’s definitely reeling in his chair now Dave knows that’s a shot he makes all the time just got to kind of Transport himself back to his home table with those plush red curtains just push away all the distractions here just think that he’s not at a US national championship just play the Sean said he was in practice find a good happy place Sam’s faltering a little bit both players having a little tough go of it here in the decider so Dave wasn’t punished too much and that black has come up right by the right middle yeah Chris and I were talking earlier in the broadcast just about the the demeanor and your attitude and if you’re feeling negative it just really can impact your game so you want to be positive almost like Happy Gilmore in that great film find your own happy place let me see a coach can’t tell you where that happy place is you got to find it yourself think as well Darren Taylor was in the booth and says it’s tough cuz a lot of players can be really hard on themselves CU they see what the pros are doing but they’ve got to block that out they’re not professional you know obviously if there’s simple shots they you’re missing it can be frustrating but it’s a very very tough game Rono suvin probably uh it’s about 20,000 balls a week he’s just a that might have been maybe not now but when he was at his height of practice in Steven Henry would put in at least 6 to8 hours a day for six days a week you’re going to put that level of a commit commitment the results will come as both those players are seven time world champions obvious see in the amateur scene definitely in America and Canada it’s tough this is not how any of us make our living we have jobs and as well it’s a bit tricky to find these snooker tables it’s getting a lot easier now but it’s still pretty tricky we had some people tune in on the stream alluding to there’s some long travels that they have to go just to find a table this is a prime destination here in Southern California San Gabriel just outside of Los Angeles proper got eight snooker tables here in the main room nine uh in total as there is a private room and if you like eight ball and nineball they got those tables too and what’s really catching a lot of the Q Sports by storm the Chinese apall you had to hit that with Pace to hold for the Pink as he left a path for that pating angle on that red that’s close to the top right corner doesn’t look like it’s there really like that nice delayed pause there that Dave has in his back swing e and theyve not trying to force the issue or anything no it’s not a Sprint SC is always a marathon listen to The Tortoise slow and steady wins the race let’s da half a chance for this red into the right middle they’re just so tough these middle pockets e forunate for dve hasn’t red hasn’t come up that much towards the yellow pocket but there’s potential here to come off this cushion and get behind the brown and the green off the red for Sam definitely gave it all the chance in the world there [Applause] kind of forced Dave into taking that shot unfor the result is that a red is pable at this top left lots of distance though for Sam to travel b g that is absolutely correct I think I’ve seen more white balls go to the middle Pockets than Reds that’s a funny look looking table there so just com taking a look at where that that pink going to the top left definitely give this red a chance to go into the yellow pocket just hold it right there very nicely done does have the black or the pink that black helped them out maybe it has yeah black is acting as skender and has protected the net from either of those Reds falling in just 9 points in it and 83 points on the table my apologies 75 six Reds let’s again he’s giv daveid chance for red in the middle look like this pink does pass the black into the middle doesn’t have to do a whole lot with the QQ ball both these Reds just below the pink do go into the other pocket top right pocket that is but elting to play for this other red into the right middle he’s got a good angle to come in and out of the bulk and land onto that black unbelievable these middle Pockets just a Miller meter away from Excellence like to hit that ball cushion first and just roll behind the yellow Sam would have had for mid-range shot here for Dave want to just follow it through like he wants to hold possibly for the black but if he misses it Reds could be on great shot risky by holding it there as you can see if that red didn’t fall he’s giving his opponent an easy chance so a few Reds open Blue’s kind of out of commission pink ain’t great pla’s going to come back on his spot got a good angle on this red into the top right corner whether he El to just float down for the black or just come up the top cushion they slowly extending his lead here like the matches that I’ve seen on the stream table when they’ve gone to decider it’s almost whoever wins that second frame metal pocket strike again have to see some stats on that maybe tonight we could uh after the day work is done maybe take a look and just see how many the ciders we have and who Dave oh boy like feeling effects of that Korean barbecue last night it’s quite a feast that we took but might just be luckily enough he got the cover with the black I’m taking a good hard look doesn’t look like he does does yeah it’s going to get a little Cy here a little shot of half of the room there here is right where our broadcast Booth is as you can see Dave Sam deep in the background beautiful facilities here at Embassy billiards in San Gabriel California feel free to come say hello to us we’re going to be here up until Championship Monday to find out who is going to be the US national champion but if we miss you this weekend come on down Stephen provides a great atmosphere for any Q Sport enthusiast getting some Reds up in the bulk area is going to help Dave Sam definitely can crawl back into the frame getting Reds and Bal colors butly would love to have Reds around the black or the pink cuz you can really jump back the snap of a finger he’s fortunate that pink has come around block the path for that red in the open part of the table I agree B gar looking to get a crowbar thought actually someone after the embassy open was probably going to get a jackhammer to those middle Pockets but unfortunately that wasn’t the case these Corner pockets are accepting Reds nice long red there by Sam cleaned up that red with a relatively high value color which is nice now we’ve got a lot of Reds up here the bulk end nice pot there by Sam let’s come back down so we might have an angle on the pink come back up table taking a look at the scoreboard got eight to count there so just trailing by 16 as it’s 40 24 so I’m just taking a look to see if there’s a pathway for that red to go past the brown I think there is is a thin Snick that’s for sure definely will be a dangerous shot see if it was more on the left side of the table that brown might be or the red by the brown might be a bit more willing to take on for for for [Applause] talk about how tricky those middle pockets are blame him if he doesn’t refuse this and tries to take it on once Dave turn to try these tricky middle pockets okay successful there straight on that brown there’s a little bit of angle he can come up the cushion for the red into the left middle certainly what he’s playing there will pull up a little bit he ran into a position that he’s got a longer pot obviously into the top right corner but with C ball and object ball close together just makes that shot that much more easier up for a while it’s going to be if Dave need to to hit that hard but obviously if we just rolled it in and if it hit a horn it might have just sat in the jaws of the pocket and left Sam with an easy starter so try and come off the black and get behind this blue he’s going to go the other way pink might have not got the snooker but I think he’s definitely blocked the potting path oh it definitely is Sam’s jacking up here he’s going to swerve around this pink what a pot can you believe it this game just ceases to amaze me all the time Once Again Sam jacking up help him on his last shot might be the pathway Dave could see the potting angle on this green it’s a long pot it’s got a 20 point Advantage just needs green and brown to put us into the actually just green my apologies put us in the Snookers required stage it’s not going to be the greatest double kiss in his life could get behind the black here they praying for that to green ball to go in but not the case here blue and brown just make it really tough to use the right side of the table be coming with the two long cushions oh Sam’s going to put that back might just in case cuz that blue is not in a great spot the blue was on the spot I definitely would think Sam would be getting down but he is this would be quite a steal for Sam if he’s able to run out here that was an impressive shot knowing these middle Pockets that amount of pace has to be so precise there still got a tricky blue here with the rest wow what shot making he is making here it doesn’t go the pressure of it he saw the match he saw the frame he saw the victory but he had to be in the moment still did need the black but look where C Ball ended up he would have been Plum on the black what a decider we have here Dave just needs the pink Sam needs pink and black for okay not the worst shot he’s played this C Ball rather close to the cushion so Sam can’t use all of that cuq ball at his disposal going to be hitting on the top hemisphere of the cube wall I would like that’ll run a little bit more more but as he baited Sam in to take this long pink wow what a pink there down to a black ball game and look what he’s got mid-range shot of a black looking into the left middle early on in this match in the first frame it seemed like Sam had found the secrets of those middle Pockets but as the match progressed both players have struggled to find the bottom more often than not in the middle pocket here it is for frame and match black ball oh and it’s there what a shot what a come from behind there for Sam McGrath it was an exciting deider a match all around I thought Dave might have been able to take that one but Sam battled back so he takes that match by scoreline of three frames to two DA’s got a lot of work to do here’s the replay yeah obviously at that pace if he had missed it would sat there so he put all his cards on the table and was Victorious for the man from Silicone Valley and we’ll uh step aside for a few short moments I might get Christian youngers back into the booth and he’ll take over for the next match coming up and we’ll see you in a few short minutes everybody thanks again e e [Music] my best was for e e e e e e e e e e for for e all right ladies and gentlemen David Bernie’s taking a break we’re back in the booth here with the defending champ Darren Taylor how’s it going Darren all good doing well doing well watching some exciting matches yeah you’re done for for the day right for the goup stage I am sweet so we got you in the booth yes we still got some decent uh I mean that one with Dave Dy yeah shot we just saw the black holy smokes I think we saw the replay actually the swerve yellow I around didn’t you catch swerve around the yellow no sorry he was snoking on the yellow and he swerved around this is the shot that we saw the last black yeah it’s a great shot yeah fair enough fair play and that after Miss Pink very easy Miss Pink as well okay I literally just finished my match and walked over and just saw black going and I was like oh poor Dave mhm oh no so we got two players here Amed KY and Hansen Hansen’s a local player here at Massy I believe mhm and uh I think Amit um plays up north California snooker I believe up north northern California I mean um both players I think have been here at the US Nationals in the past few years Hansen’s uh one of those guys who I mean technically looks absolutely perfect mhm you know very good player and he’s definitely got the home court advantage I would say probably has more table time on this table by of the two players I’d say he’s the better player yeah you’d you know no disrespect to Amit but you’d expect him to hen to win this one he’s definitely got the advantage I would say so looking at the um the groups um in this group they’ve got Hansen J Shaw um Vel talati and Amit Ki is this group group uh K looks like Amit has lost both of his matches so he’s going to need some help and I think he’s in a must- wiwin situation so if he doesn’t win this Frame there’s no way he’ll advance and then Hansen I believe is fighting for position with J sha and Vishal tatti depending on how that match goes if Jay wins they could be in a tie if Hansen wins if wins could be’s dominated this group then yeah if if Vice wins his match which it looks like he should mhm it’s in Hansen’s hands right no pun intended to advance whenn and he’s in right um and amit’s going to need some help I think from from so it’s a yeah it’s a little bit of a group situation and that can change you know that can give you a little bit of extra nerve if you know you’ve got to win despite the fact that you’ve got an advantage as a player can still give you uh the JS let’s say right right it’s almost but I count it is almost more comforting knowing that if I win I’m in mhm it’s it’s almost less pressure having to worry about when you need help from your other group it’s kind of like how hard do you try and you start watching them if they’re on the table next to you which I don’t know where the other matches actually happening how was your match by the way H I lost in a decider uh to Raymond McCarthy okay Scrappy first two frames what’ it go down to on the decider uh decider he just uh outran the pace I just kept leaving leaving Reds on and a couple of fouls and he had a good snooker I think I lost with righted on the table 60 point differential but the first frame uh was a black ball game and he cross doubled the black um on a long on a long rail shot you know when the black’s on along the long Rail and you get the full table distance right he just crossy uh yeah I’m pretty sure since Raymond won uh if either of us had won we would have been in guaranteed so he’s in guaranteed and I think it’s going to come down to my match my last match winner of our match will be the second place player who are you playing uh playing a gentleman let’s see forgot his name Arin arjin Zoran right so he lost two Z in that group so did you beat tan I beat Tan in the first round yesterday yeah that was a close one so Arin I don’t know who that is yeah like a taller gentleman I think he was playing over on table six earlier with uh with T so he went to go get a lunch break and he’ll be back okay and we’ll we’ll start up but uh yeah yeah when and we’re in cool that’s the goal should be fun it’s it is rough to uh not have a table though near me anymore since I’m no longer in Seattle so you don’t get the table time you no longer than anymore I’m to Virginia no oh really yeah my girlfriend’s job took me out there so we’re there for a few years and then probably relocate somewhere else in a couple years so not permanent what’s it like in Virginia uh it depends uh we’re in like Southern Virginia so it’s much more uh small town it’s a little bit uh it’s a lot of military folks in norfol and then uh if you go kind of up north northeastern Virginia you start to get more techy it’s Washington DC area a lot more um lot more stuff going on so it’s uh it’s a good mix Virginia good mix of stuff any tables uh absolutely no snooker tables within at least 2hour drive for me so oh wow it’s pretty rough out there in the drought that is Virginia for snooker there used to be some out there you know when when po Halls have a a table in the back a lot of the old-timers play golf on it or whatever that seemed to be a standard and I’ve heard from a lot of people oh yeah so and so places used to have table hey we used to have a table in the bag whatever no they’re all G they’ve all been replaced by Bar Boxes and APA events and everything so yeah definitely different I know for sure since I’m on the very Coast all the way opposite tip of Virginia where Virginia Tech is I know that there’s a table on campus there somewhere but that’s about a five or six hour drive wow I know that I can go to DC though and there’s there’s plenty of clubs in DC a couple of couple of clubs oh really yeah there’s one I think um Delta rocks Billiards they hosted a USSA tour stop uh I streamed that uh earlier in the year I think uh and that’s in the center of DC that’s just outside of DC it’s a suburb called Alexandria okay just south of uh DC wow across the water um so that’s good tonight yeah shout out to Delta rocks and I think there’s another club uh between there and Richmond somewhere and the Delta rocks one has I think Six Tables um for a tournament of this size I don’t know if they they’d be able to use all six because one of them is really tight they’re all kind of really close together it’s not not a ton of room right they’re on the second floor of like a industrial type complex the other venue though apparently I think has like seven to eight tables which I have yet to check out but I think it’s somewhere within an hour drive or so of Delta rocks so um yeah definitely some tables and obviously once you go more North you get kind of New England area and New York and there’s definitely a lot more there although we don’t see a lot of players coming out of that area do we no not really I mean probably the closest player in that area I would say Bob Dharma mhm I think he’s New Jersey area he’s been in C uh yeah and then who else I don’t know if uh gosh what was his name um Shar I think Shar went to the Delta rocks venue stop right I don’t know if it was driving distance for him or where exactly he’s at and there was another another player that I think had previously came to the US Nationals so not really too many that I can think of um from the area I think you got to go more North but uh what do we got here for this Frame bit of a wide open spread but no no high value colors really on yeah I mean uh blue pink and black available although not on the spots yeah they’re all kind of up table kind of tricky this this is a starter you can quickly yeah you can quickly get these uh this table squared away believe it’s the brown right along the right long cushion it is close to that pocket so I wonder how that’ll come into play later yeah if you can get the black on it spot pink on it I wouldn’t you probably wouldn’t want the pink on it spot straight away to be honest with the way the reds are but if it’s if it’s covered gone particularly well if it’s covered it actually might be okay because then you they come to the blue spot and I think that open up both both Balls to the center Pockets yeah you watch Hanson play he’s got an Immaculate technique yeah I think he’s probably going to take the green on right just swing the Q ball around try and land M table he he’s not happy yeah he wanted a better better touch on the black with that than uh than he got but um think he’s got no got to take his medicine and play the green he’s taking yellow maybe for better queing a little bit surprised that but doesn’t want to use the rest maybe sure he could reach over but no just safe well okay surpris I think the green was of value there taking the green on maybe yeah yeah and what I’ve noticed to at this level especially in this tournament um once you get to a c just a certain standard of ball pocketing the game really opens up I find that it we got a good mix of players here obviously right and kind of uh the favorites to win the tournament all the way down to you know players who can only string maybe 20 breaks or so and uh and I find that so many scenarios if you just if you just pot let’s say 70% of your shots that you’re attempting M you’re going to be in the top 25% of this field pretty easily I’d say right yeah and and I think that kind of goes to we should try to be more cognizant of like not overextending and not trying to take on stuff that we probably I think that’s one of my biggest things is I I see some of the players you know I’ve said this to some of the guys that have come down from Arizona like I’ve seen guys taking on shots that there’s not a pro on the planet would take on right right not even Pro would take yeah no Ronnie wouldn’t take them on right you’re taking on shots that with no value there’s no merit in taking on that shot um but yeah I don’t know I don’t know why I don’t know why that is cuz you just don’t have to do it you’re putting more pressure on yourself right right you know it’s not like you there were shots that you’re there’s no choice other than to go for that particular shot but like I saw a guy you know he’s got a full length black on the on the tight on the cushion with the rest trying to roll it down yikes just play safe off a bol color but you it’s maybe if you played it 100 times you might get it once or twice it’s that kind of shot right right but not even there was no value in it apart from leaving the red on yeah or and like seven points or something right like yeah yeah and um yeah it’s interesting I mean and and I see that a lot and I’m I I kind of wonder why what the thought process is MHM maybe it’s just like oh well it’s black I can I can get seven points if it goes in well yeah great if it goes in but um chances are yeah part of it I think is and it happens a lot in pool as well is we often times overestimate our percentages on certain shots and that don’t actually know if you know if you were to ask someone hey this shot right now for example I mean whatever just take a a random Shot Blue in the middle what is what is your percentage on this pot out of 10 10 times how many times you actually make it yeah do you do you know that answer and I feel like less than 10% of this field probably knows the answer actually to like half of the standard shots right and if you can really actually answer that it becomes very simple right you know what shots to take on you know what shots not to take on because just simple rule I mean if 70% or higher you take it on I think that’s a really good point yeah good point it it it greatly simplifies the game but I think that’s you know one thing we don’t have the calibration the second thing I think is when it comes to stress and panic and pressure our first instinct is always to go for it you know you think go for the shot because I want to win mhm that’s obviously like the first Baseline fundamental concept of the game you can’t win without potting a ball right y but um it’s it’s it it goes against that instinct when you pass up a pot that you know you’ve made in the past but that you don’t have a an accurate percentage on so it’s kind of like that first initial Instinct combined with not understanding the sort of percentage I think that’s really why most most players take on and I know I do it myself all the time as well and so that’s kind of the game really and just got to and it may be the case like in the club you’re not getting an accurate caliber ation because you’re in the you’re just saying well I could make that you know I would go for it if I was pring playing somebody in the club in practice well yeah cuz you’re having a bit of fun right now you’re in a tournament you know that you’ve traveled for there’s a big difference as pressure involved you got to factor that in um but yeah so many times I’m like you got to some of these guys you got to turn start turning down some shots mhm I’m I’m all for going for your shot but if you can pot a go for a pot that is a low percentage but you’re not going to leave anything if you miss and then there’s reward there fair enough mhm yeah yeah for sure it’s it’s very interesting and I think the other part that goes hand in hand with this is uh a lot of people talk about how when Pros practice and when amateurs practice when amateurs practice I feel like you often see someone attempt a pot or a shot until they make it once maybe twice right once they make it they move on to the next thing and I feel like when you see a pro play the tables are flipped it’s not how many times can you make it it’s how can I keep shooting this so that I don’t miss it ever right so instead of just I made it once now I can stop it’s no I need to stop once I don’t miss more than 10 in a row and then then I can stop practicing the shot cuz now it’s a percentage right yeah and I think that’s one big thing and that kind of goes back still to like the whole percentage play we don’t really know you you can make an epic awesome long pot once in a in a blue moon right a clock is righted twice a day and that’s the only data point you’re going off of you’ve got a very biased data set you know this is very it’s a very formulaic way of looking at it but I think it’s it can help uh no I think breaking it down is quite important you know yeah and it helps with pressure cuz then you see it from your opponent you see them taking on pots so you’re like you’re never making this shot I know who you are and you can’t make this Pro would never shoot this taking I think you’re alleviating a lot of pressure by turning stuff down sometimes right yeah you simplify it you leave your opponent in a tough spot they have to grind and think about it and struggle and they stress on things and you’re sitting on the side just hanging out because you shot the 90% shot that you know is going to be dead to the cushion or whatever it is right mhm and then the endurance comes and kicks in but so Hansen’s got a going back to the table he’s got a he’s got a um chance here now he’s in the balls Brown is over the right corner pocket right not a guilt Edge chance with the way the colors are I think the key is going to be back right cuz I think so but yeah I mean once the black resp spots it goes and it probably clear a couple of Reds out but yeah which red you like playing for here oh no I think that was right shot play for the red to the right of the black spot with this angle to come up for black and respot it then you got two-way traffic but very straightforward rest jot M he rushed that a little bit I think but he’s been fortunate he’s left a very tricky cut back which if it goes in by the way way I think his chances are going to be on the black very high Canon the red to the left of it you mean a mile away from that he’s overcut it yeah hit the top side yeah had he cut it clean might have actually come thinner off of that red depending on the angle so you see here I think I think if hom would have come around and looked at where he needs this QQ ball for the black MH but maybe he’s just going to play into the middle of the table and he’s got yellow and green over the pocket so just to play Within himself a little bit not be too accurate it’s probably the right shot yeah this works but getting the getting the pink on it spot now is key because now that it’s clear into four Pockets right right wide open and there’s plenty of Reds the three near the Black and Pink Spot that are open so I think that’s a good Target for him to go for for to get that pink on it spot don’t worry about the bunch on the left side of the table until that until you get the open ones first and then you’ve got your insurance Reds up table if got open Reds yeah got green leave the green where it is cuz that’s insurance for you know if you run out of position you’ve got another that’s a weird shot yeah he decided to go all the way down table he could have held there I thought for the red into opposite middle pocket maybe I don’t know he stunned it so he could have done pretty much anything looking at this red near the blue and pink it does pass yeah into the center yeah he’s going to play a safety shot obviously now oh hello green ball so still feel like you know if somebody gets an opportunity here you can score a few points right balls are starting to get a little bit or could but he’s taking on the one on the rail I like the channel between this red and the bunch to come out of with the Escape but he’s just dumping it down it’s not bad mhm probably the right shot pink might have to be played into a into the green pocket yeah yeah you get aw awfully thin on it if you’re trying to make it into the middle mhm don’t mind shooting the the the red in between the pink and black spot to screw back off of up into the corner CU as long as you draw the pocket you’re never going to leave it on he’s taking this one up table just to get in behind Brown tricky tricky yeah it’s just starting to run a little bit awkward isn’t it the balls were set nice everything’s going to get pushed now I think up table this red closest to Brown Next up into the right Corner pass the pink play the cuq ball off one cushion maybe he’s got a chance wow wow wow there we go but he’s got a good QQ ball again that no problem with that one you know you’re playing you’re playing you’re not leaving a red on you I mean didn’t get on the brown but that’s was probably his objective to just try and get on a color and um definitely those the kind of shots that you should have a go at but when there’s no when there’s no reward and there’s no value if you guys want to take a look at Cloud snooker as well for all the uh updated stats it looks like you’re in in your group right you took the top spot with three wins mhm and they had a a three-way tie but I believe David xia advancing as the second place interesting based on oh there was a three-way tie that’s interesting frame differential oh maybe not maybe it was oh threeway actually no it was nael Tito n yeah so he’s got the minus one frame differential so I think he’s going to be advancing with a three-way tie his frame difference will be next we’ve got Steven Wong who still has no he’s played all three matches he’s leading his group or excuse me sorry Tom lore winning that group and then Steven getting second place mhm so three and0 one and two so Steven and Tom we’ve got CCE and leat Chen advancing in group C mhm um Ernst bmir 130 and Raymond fun two and one so Raymond and Ernst advancing out of group D ja wins both matches mhm and uh Norman hung second place in the third three person group group E got no real massive surprises so far no this one’s interesting Arif Mahmud and SAR advancing yeah both players with a Tide record I think or frame differential in their favor excuse me threeway tie since Mustafa lost all three another three person group group g tom tan advances and Dan Noir in second place mhm Group H Omar balsara advancing along with Majid Hassan so they played for the winner of that group just now group I Hassan hassine yeah he’s expected to win that group with a three and0 record and second place is Tim Lee tied with Jay winning in frame Fran but that match is still going on at the moment is it yeah they are they not concluded oh oh it’s right here Tim Lee and J J Tim and Jay are playing still so excuse me so winner that’s a vital match for those guys win your in pressure pressure pressure group J we’ve got uh Mark Zigler yeah who still has yet to play another match he’s leading that group and samrath both players at the top believe have two match wins and the other two players have two match losses I think they’re both automatically in they’re just going to play for the winner of that group mhm and that’s coming up here quick I think or it might have already started no not yet um that’s we got this group this is Group K with Hansen playing against Amit believe Hansen needs to win and he’s in possibly actually there’s still a tossup since Jay could beat Vell but V’s expected to beat Jay Hansen just needs to win this to advance group L we’ve got Keith Zen and chilon loang so those two are advancing Amit has been eliminated and Anil I got my group arjin and me are playing up next Raymond McCarthy advancing for sure playing against tan so you win you go through correct okay good luck with that yeah and then Andy mcclusky’s group he’s got two match wins and the other players have two have 0 and two so I think they’re playing for first place K MOSI and Arafat Amat they’re going to be coming up here soon mhm group O last two groups group O we’ve got Eric Sheek winning one match and Shakib has lost both matches so most likely so rat’s only played one rat played one because it’s a group of three he played a best of five last night play best of five right he had a decider last night against shib and managed to pull it out okay so they’re playing for first place in that group Eric and rat they’re playing later we might get them on the stream table and then last group group of three as well Mark Wilson finally got to play his first match today he’s in a best of five over on Table 9 and uh that group still pretty wide open only one match they playing best of fives as well yeah correct yeah which is not terrible two best of fives to advance a group of three out of two two out of three is late one you know because if his wins that match then he’s right back on I think right yeah right back on so it’s going to be a good one then all right so back to this Frame bit of pump bumping the balls back and forth yeah it doesn’t look like much has happened 11 Point differential but now Hansen making some shots here um think he’s got to play safe really now huh um you know what I think no I think you play the pot because you can play it in such a way it’s the only red you’re going to leave right hit it at a pace the the one that’s not on the far left but one in I think and just it’s almost a center ball shot I think from the angle just roll it in off the off the top cushion and finish on the black CH to stun interesting I going to maybe drop no you see that’s the strange thing about Hansen he’s he’s got he looks like a proper player why would you you stun that ball and practically snooker yourself mhm you know I think that’s just a experience in and learning really just decision making right yeah I feel like I’m in the same boat I feel like I can maybe do a little bit in terms of proper fundamentals but then all a sudden there’s a couple of decisions that go AR right um but he knows how to control the ball you know I don’t know why you wouldn’t just roll it in and come off the top cushion but anyway good pop yeah those are always a little bit uh risky those shots right it’s a blind pocket so yeah I think and you’re almost going to always leave it I mean if you slow roll it the far jaw is your worst enemy and then if you uh you know Juice It Up Your near Jaws your enemy as you’re going to be going towards the C ball with the object ball nicely on the blue or it’s hampered a little bit by the the Reds bridging over so I’m mean I I’ve actually been in his group the past couple years so it’s surprised I’m not in his group once again in this one but you notice he’s playing uh left-handed um he is originally right-handed player um but um in the past year and a half two years or so he’s had to switch hands because of a back issue oh wow and a NE yeah neck shoulder issue I think so if you watch I think when he was playing at Ox uh 2022 edition of the of the US Nationals he uh he was playing right-handed but you could tell he’s very tense a lot of kind of pressure built up in the shoulders and he wasn’t very comfortable kind of on every shot you notice there was a like a lot of forced you know action but now that he switched to left hand he definitely is probably up to up to his standard where he was before with his off hand now which is really impressive um but now he looks a lot more natural a lot more fluid I think uh if I had stopped playing with my left hand that’d be game over not worth it I can’t do it I don’t know how people can I mean I’m in the I’m in one of those weird boats where I’m actually right-handed and everything but I learn Q sorts and pool left-handed just as a kid W yeah I think you told me that and this is because my dad is Left-Handed so I just copied it and mean that’s how I learned really and so there’s there’s a certain like natural feel that still is there with the right-handed shot sometimes and and and I wonder I feel like I could switch over but it it beats so much effort at this point to to do it right and and I just always wonder in the back of my head you know could I have just been a better player had I been right-handed originally you know like but it’s it’s a funny thing I think John Mora is the other big example that people point to at least in the pool world who has switched hands uh due to some issue I think but he’s a professional standard player you know he definitely I think he being a Canadian as well he play some snooker out there this is a good a good leave here for Amed to leave hand a tough shot thin clip off the red on the side cushion just come back up to bul I think the I’m getting it wrong every single time now right but I mean not that you’re wrong in terms of choice I think they’re just shooting a little bit unconventionally I that’s an example there he’s actually T playing the pot there right I don’t know what um maybe maybe but what’s his percentage really on pot no clue there there’s no way h tight table get to him I think a little bit too yeah he’s been lucky though you got to get rid of this red somehow or just Nestle off the side cushion oh I’m going to get one right yep get prediction right and he blasts it just yeah now he’s got to stun it leave the Q ball in the pocket and put the C on the on the uh red ball up in bulk right so there’s not safe area if you keep the red ball up in bulk and in a in a um cuz you can stun it off the cushions off off two cushions to three cushions but make sure it’s in open Play careful with the cannon on this black or the red along the right long rail see drastically under what that the difference is this is a that was a tactical opportunity difference between safety and tactical tactically you then create a space in the bulk area where there’s it’s not safe right but t Tech Al that was a good move all You’ done by playing that shot is leave him an easy safety shot right right whereas if you’d thrown the the the red into the into the into the end of at that end of the table the brown spot somewhere right yeah something like that you know keep it in open Play yeah I think that’s all the experience is what you’re describing basically I think the other example is also playing the safety with a bit more intent even just deciding you know playing the safety on this half of the table or that side it makes a huge difference ESP when cut off the table right right when especially when one side gets very cluster and you have your standard Center cluster pack and the other side is wide open you just cut that side off the table all of a sudden they’re in a world of trouble right yeah and I see a lot of people playing really thin safeties I’m like I’d rather see people opening up the pack right right and and still play a good safety shot where you’ve got the your opponent you know in bulk MH or on the bulk line on the bottom bottom end of the table but um but yeah open open up the pack and put some pressure on him yeah this is something that showing me not scared of him you know that Dave Bernie brings up all the time is you know why why I just hit hit one of these a little bit Fuller and open up the balls put some more pressure your opponent especially when you’re the favorite offensively you know your opponent might struggle a bit more why not just open up the balls make your life easier right for the future shots cuz let’s face it we’re all going to get chances yeah of course we’re all going to give away chances looks like you got RA in the chat saying hello there he is what time is it over there in uh ask him ask him what he said there we need to translate this or what what is it it says Jack Janice Janice it’s a it’s an ongoing joke private joke that ROM and I have interesting okay nice 1:00 a.m. over there nice tuning in across the pond o all right what can what can Hansen put together here yeah I he’s got to start scoring some points I mean you figure he takes the three or four open [Applause] Reds yeah I would like to see him screw into that red and then come up there you go screw into the red and come up for the pink or yellow there you go you did but um but missed the red cuz if you screw into that red you push the red back into the middle of the table right right and looks like we had some clapping in the background who won that so that was J and Jay and Tim I believe Tim won that frame so he advances so he advances correct with Hassan also tiny uh okay that group group I has been decided it looks like so we’re getting down to it here these last last big maybe matches or so they’re going to decide the last 32 yeah it’s going to be exciting tomorrow to have a knockout stage we’re playing three rounds tomorrow I don’t remember what the best ofes but I imagine they’re all best of fives or greater uh for the 32 16 and quarterfinals so oh nice long pot here he got options as well Reds have clustered but there might be a plant onto the right center R asking is Jay he out yeah Jay has been eliminated uh just now by Tim Lee it was a win and your in situation for both players so he’s a good Potter Tim yeah watched his match earlier and I think he just struggled with a little bit with the tight pockets on on this match table against hassan9 but you know Hanan is a little bit of a maybe one of the top favorites possibly to in this tournament plays pretty strong couple of great long pots here from Hansen on the Reds he’s cleaning up the table a little bit here on a group uh sorry excuse me he’s on a break of nine I believe excuse me eight right pink and one red he playing safety it looks like here so taking medicine just the angle it looked like he could cut the yellow in but maybe not I thought so as well but maybe he’s just trying to keep the balls tidy and knows what the lead that he needs on it to just leave him open something R asking what was that the group of death I don’t know actually which one was the group of death what which one we consider that didn’t they didn’t have a seated player in that group not doesn’t necessarily mean that’s not a tough group to play in but I think the group of death would be you have you have had uh Steven Wong Tom lore in that group right um Charles Benham and Richard Lun yeah for Charles and and Rich it was a tough one to try and qualify yeah typically though you look for groups of death that have kind of three players can all almost like win the tournament even right three players yeah I don’t I don’t know if we even I don’t think you’re going to get that with this format with the um every every group seems to have at least one one to two tough players but I don’t see any that have a big big mix maybe I mean Omar balsara Majid and Amir Michael Chan it’s hard to say I think we’re missing um we’re missing ROM right I think he would have been the one to make one of these group of death drop in missing him he’s definitely missing his dolc tones you must get him to tell you this trip to their uh the story about their trip him with bajador to Sheffield oh did bajador come to Sheffield last year uh when he went to Sheffield uh no it was not last year it was the year before I think so oh okay interesting story R asking any American in the tournament this year any Americans from yeah well I think the requirements are uh green card holder or US citizen do you mean us N US born I think he’s being a classic R and asking his very sarcastic questions he’s got faces up there yeah obviously all all the players here are American to some respect I mean they did open it up to green card holders this uh tournament last year I believe last year yeah but I don’t think we really have any large amount of players here us Bourne yours truly is US born San Diego California yeah not an xat San dieago San dieago yeah so I think I count as a US born player in the tournament but um off camera Mark zagler is practicing and warming up for his match and this is a guy I’ve heard a lot about the um I think he beat Dave daily yes I think so so he’s just warming up getting ready for his match interested to watch him play yeah we get front row seats it’s a think we can get a shot of it on our side angle you can see he’s warming up here he’s going to be playing against Eric Eric shik there’s another shot of the room there eight tables going as you can see our TV table is in the back there we’ve also got TV stream on the other two tables next to it you can check that out on obsa Ontario snooker tournaments is streaming the table four and five action depending on which one he likes Hansen is missing some really surprising bows he just missed this very fun mental ping there that can give your opponent confidence you’re like okay you know and that’s exactly what’s happened really he’s just parted a very difficult red cuz you see your opponent start to miss you’re like okay well maybe I’ve got a good chance here I just got to make now way the balls are it’s a tough one to win but um still plenty of points on the table the extra red yeah and I always think just by potting the color he’s slow rolled this ball I disagree with that pain I think he had to run that three cushions to get better shape onto the red and you can shoot it with confidence and everything is going in your favor I think that I I agree with that I think it was a bit of a hesitant yeah shot like oh I just want to put the ball not quite a decel a committed you know authoritative strike and I’m going to pot this ball I’m going to get on the next Ro try to get on the next red I agree I think it’s it’s that hesitancy can is not doesn’t fulfill confidence and just having first initiative too on on playing the first safety onto the last Red like I said yeah this yeah this initiative you you can gain a lot of uh points yeah in these scenarios think he could probably get around this fairly straightforward if you can hit the cushion or oh there’s plenty of room there nice caught the knuckle it’s going to be tight for the B cushion a little bit no oh it’s going to be samon Mark zagler right that’s going to decide the winner of that group that’s going to be an interesting oh is it yes both players have one both through it just decides who’s going through first correct so it’s actually quite an important match if you’re going to dep you want you want to be able to finish off and win the group and I think Sam m gr’s one of those players that I’ve seen massive Improvement in the past uh few years yeah very much compared to last year’s us Nationals I saw him earlier at Embassy Open improved drastically and I think he’s also gotten better matches today something I find is that people set up these complicated uh routines when they’re just warming up You’ got 2 minutes MH to warm up why not just I would play a few simple shots you know rather than put a complicated routine up to try and put pressure on yourself you know you don’t you’re not you haven’t got 2 minutes you can’t clear that in 2 minutes anyway so why would you do it you know yeah I’m going they I mean I think when I have a 2 minutes I think about poting some mid-range pink black type range shots you know fairly straight in maybe take on a long blue to see if you’re feeling real good that can be a confidence boost and then that’s pretty much all you have like I mean yeah you just want to be able to get QR moving a little bit and that’s it yeah shoot some at high Pace roll a couple in and then and feel for the table and and again what I’m noticing is it’s like oh well just get down one one Q pot it that’s it one Q po it when I watch players then play they’re doing something different oh totally different so when you warming up you’re practicing something you’re not really practicing you’re just like hitting a ball mhm when you get down and play it’s two or three or four Q actions right so I don’t know why would you not just practice what you’re about to do right this is this brings up a big a good uh discussion this is kind of a pet PE of mind as well which is people talk about at least like amateur players whatever talk about why not so so try to try to play your match as if you’re practicing and people talk about it this all the time and I actually very much disagree with this point of view I think um having talked to some Pro players and whatnot I think the answer actually is don’t play like you practice practice like you play and I agree with that okay because if you if you do it the other way around play like you practice if you practice and you just smash the balls around that’s not the right way for you to play right so yeah 100% agreed I’d rather see the other way around which is what you intimated so is is to say I’m going to put my effort into the practice MH as if I’m playing a match right when I’m playing somebody in practice um and then it’s not unusual it’s not an unusual style of play when you do play a match exactly yeah shout out to Jeremy Jones he’s the one who mentioned this to me originally which was first time he saw play Jeremy Jones player yeah first time he saw a big jump in his game personally was when he really just started to grind in practice by himself as if he’s playing a match the same intensity the same amount of practice strokes the same everything moment he was able to capture that and really try doing that consistently in practice is moment his game jumped you know 10 fold to professional level right and this is going to be a concession now for mamit with that Miss so excuse me with that in off so was going to take the first frame but uh but yeah to that discussion you know it’s uh it’s it’s massive I think the the other part that I think about when this discussion comes up is um kind of how the mental game works and one kind of trick I think that Alison Fischer told me um yes the Allison Fisher um which she was able to do really well which is replicate the pressure of a match situation in practice which obviously you know you some players can just do that and if you can that’s great for you but not everybody can really do that but there’s kind of a mental trick that I think about sometimes when especially when you’re down in a match and you’ve and in pool there’s always the sort of two losses type tournaments you know double elimination tournaments after you lose that first match and now it’s win or die right um you uh you think about the tournament as if you lost in the worst way possible you’re gutted completely you know it’s like they fluk crazy ball and you and you had your chances and you missed the easiest spots put yourself in that mindset and just think about when you’re there you just wish you had another shot right if I just had another chance right now somebody gave me another chance yeah I would knock get out of the park right right and just think about that right now yeah this is your other chance right yeah it hasn’t happened yet but just put yourself pretend it did happen and now you have a second chance yeah and that’s kind of a good way to sort of trick yourself to to Really caring now because you’re like man I think anything yeah you have to try and trick the Mind into thinking different things because it’s a still ball sport so you do have these um challenges that and and speaking to people in the you know while we’ve been here the last couple of days um people talk about this all the time you know I think this when I’m playing I think this when I’m playing you you’re quite right you got to find these little tricks to trick the Mind mhm unless you’re one of those freak of natures that can just turn it you know and that’s very far and few between so right we’ll take a look at this uh action here while we’re waiting yeah Sam McGrath and I’m interested to watch Mark uh play um so far he’s he’s rattled through the group so like what was interesting was if there’s anybody from England uh um when I saw Mark I noticed he had a emblem on his Q case oh and I’m like hey I recognize that name it’s a there’s a club in Bournemouth in England MH that has that name where I used to play oh a club called Green Bays and uh and that’s exactly where he got the Q Cas from wow that that’s a small Ro that’s hilarious uh uh someone in the chat asking what’s the highest break someone has seen on here so for this match Steven Wong’s had a 60 plus I think yeah 67 for this tournament for the tournament nothing yeah I don’t know what the high break is at the club I don’t know I don’t think there’s any been any maximums here at Embassy yet 60 60 something yeah I think by this stage in last year’s tournament we were with a senty almost or you had an 80 something I think at that point I you know what I think we’re sorry yeah I think Rena had a in the group stage I think it’s it’s group stages you never really people aren’t really relaxed I think once you get to to the um knockout stages people start to play a little bit and you start to know that you have some leeway too to take on some shots maybe that you might not with the extra frames yeah all right so frame two action players have to update the score there but it’s Hansen taking the first one which like we said I think is is expected so I’m it’s going to have to pull something out of his hat here to really open things up nice shot in front of us from uh yeah um I got a little bit fortunate he has got shot on this pink not heav enough so s will find this interesting so this is a good point and this is just coming off table right now with Sam’s coming onto um Table Six mhm he he was on table three which is infinitely faster than table six so it’ be interesting to see how he handles this the pace and it just showed it there he tried to pop the pink and fell short by about 78 in oh didn’t even reach the pocket huh didn’t reach the pocket yikes and that’s something that’s it’s a much much slower table great pop by Mark eag there and perfect on the blue so just got to navigate what he’s going to do with the black somehow yeah we’ll keep an eye on this yeah as we continue can even switch over to it at some point okay we can get little cannon on the black when he’s got the pink over the pocket over the middle pocket so interesting to see what he does there’s a few little matches going on where people have to oh yeah nice that tells you a lot about that kind of player there he’s just used nudged the black and uh freed it up I think he might be able to cut this red into the into their uh into the corner pocket if you can see it you obviously can’t see it what’s going on here I’m have to pull them up maybe a side by side action do some magic here so I just want to bring up a point here now so Mark actually played the Pink as he went through his Q clipped a red and he immediately told Sam that he’d done that so it’s a foul six points and that’s the beauty about this game of ours um the honesty the Integrity which I love um you know people don’t try and gain something they always try and say own up to their fouls and that’s there’s no other game like it I’ve played quite a bit of pool and and people have have played people and they fouled and they’ve never owned up to it and I I’ve seen them do it they know they’ve done it you know when you fouled but nobody else saw it apart from the player and he owned up to it which is great and that’s the beauty about Nuka yeah you love to see that com rading sportsmanship in the game another another question I like to ask players is uh is why why do we why do you play the game what what is your answer Darren um because it’s still a challenge okay it’s a real challenge I think you know it’s such a tough game and you’re always trying to learn there’s still so much to learn it’s like playing chess you know there’s always so much to learn there’s always there’s always uh room for improvement with this game and yeah I play it for the love and and the challenge and also for the fact that you meet some amazing people we I’ve got great friends all over the world mhm from just playing snook yeah okay so I think uh a lot of common answers there so kind of the Love of the Game is what everybody kind of attaches to first off right and the challenge of playing um one sec I’m going [Applause] to all right well uh got an update I think my match is being called so okay I’m going to get David Bernie back in the booth here let’s see if we can set up a little bit of side by side action though so you can watch as you were mentioning you did want to keep an eye on Mark zler and samrath playe so we’ll see if we can work our magic but yeah I think uh very common those two those two points of view the love the game sort of the camaraderie aspect and then you alluded to the sportsmanship obviously another big one yeah it’s it’s a game of uh and and and I love the fact that it hasn’t really changed the world has changed you know you don’t even you could look at a photograph today you don’t know if it’s a human being or it’s artificial intelligence where snooker is just snooker you know it’s there’s it’s the same game okay there’s been some advancements in ball technology but and cloth technology and all the rest of it but other than that it’s it really hasn’t changed the same beautiful game that it was you know century ago mhm yeah really just rules have changed that’s the only thing right yeah rules have changed for the betterment of the game but you know the game’s still exactly the same game as you as if you were playing in you know 1930 right Sam’s really has his game has come on like I see what you’re saying compared to last year yeah yeah really has come on it’s pull background right uh I’m not sure actually it’s a good question I would ask him but I think he is is he also American Born no I don’t think so is he an xat um I think he’s American right I’m not sure oh no he’s British is he yeah he’s British always think about the accent first so it’s hard to tell can’t always put the accent to the name at all times it just depends all right we’re going to do a little bit of live stream magic here hopefully as we do want to keep track I guess of uh some other key matches for group stage M play still no score balls all over the place with uh the am and Hansen match looks like Hansen poter red he’s on this pink into the center pocket so it’s key if he BS this looks like he’s going to be nicely in there I mean apart from the black it’s a funny situation because with the balls wide open you actually never really mind your work okay you know yeah and I I think in this situ just pop one get on another one you forget about the three shots thinking three shots ahead all right so I’ve configured this setup now so if you go here we can look at uh some side by side action nice so you can see on the left we’ve got Hansen against Amit and on the right it’s samrath versus Mark Z which is what you’ve been alluding to a lot the winner of the match on the right will be advancing in that group um as the leader and the second place player will be the loser both players are in on the right hand side they’re just playing kind of for the top spot and I think I’m going to leave you with David Bernie here in a bit so I’m going to go play my match so so I just click this yeah and then if you want to go back to this one is this okay and this one is this right okay sounds good nice all right well was a pleasure having you in the booth David uh I’ll be back later but I’ll bring you David berie okay keep it going cool um the interesting comment coming up to be fair golf is Honorable although uh maybe not quite to the same extent I love playing golf and in the professional game absolutely but on the amateur game I’ve played PL plenty of people who um who will let’s just say have uh economic be economic with the truth when it comes to scoring e for so Hansen perfect now on the blue again another opportunity he’s got us try and score some points here now three Reds unavailable on the left hand cushion just wanted to try and score some points Mark’s also in a nice position at the table just needs a good positional shot to get him in perfect position here I think he’s going to be yeah he’s nicely on the red above the black so so both players on two separate tables in good positions here to and score some points so so Mark missed his shot and um Hansen’s still at the table for just under hit that one Hansen be still got a red into the green pocket comfortably play this and come back down for the blue it’s got to creep past that red now we should be able to drop on these two Reds to the left hand side of the pink maybe into the center pocket if he’s got the angle tricky little pot alwayss hard off the cushion yeah just got it and he’s got a nice Cannon so he’s back on the red and should follow the pink after it or blue If he if he wishes could go up for that oh he’s lost possession will’ll be disappointed with that Hansen so looks like unless he can pull a good pot out he that’s this will be end of break and meanwhile um Sam has left Mark a very easy starter on table six red are good they need to be worked on um by Mark Z here but uh we’ll see what we can do so on table three right now I think I think Hanson’s developed a lead 34 points to six way the reds are uh the reds are actually spread it’s uh it’s going to be tricky to try and come back at him in one visit so three Reds available one good pot here from Hansen would um Can stun this in and leave myself on the green mid-range red not always easy for for a chance now to have Hansen to be able to apply a little bit more pressure If few pots the red pink and and the the red up by the Green Spot need decent angle on the pink so good positional shot required now to get from pink to Red fair enough he hasn’t attempted it so just take the points and put more pressure on his opponent good match play and now we got five red safe so 67 points left on the table Anson’s 39 ahead there still plenty of points on the table but the table is very very difficult indeed so am if he’s going to have a am if he’s going to have a any CHS in this I would say he’s got to try and open up these Reds oh what a shot from Hansen there great PO he may be able to cut this blue in and come off the button cushion and try and disturb one of the Reds as possible um and in doing so you overcut the blue what he attempted but overcut the blue quite considerably so for for for oh so Sam in the Sam and Mark Zigler match Sam has just missed a sitter of a red over the pocket be dis appointed with that because he was going to be he had to pop that and could have finished perfect on the black but for for so Hansen looking like he’s going to be going through hasn’t quite got there yet but with the lead that he has with the way the balls are difficult to see uh Amit coming back from this especially if he knocks his black in 43 points left on the table possible 43 points left on the table that’s a great black great black water shot disturb the Reds amazing shot meanwhile markers knocked in a very thin cut um red so he’s on the blue into the center pocket Hansen has just played another great shot so I think this is this is pretty much done and dusted Hansen um looking like winning this match now so Hansen’s 50 points ahead 35 on the table um amit’s just attempted a snooker there but I think Hansen can see this balls are pretty good for Snook cream um especially with the yellow green and brown the way they are pink and black are in a good position for snickering so definitely Amit won’t be giving up just yet yeah Hanson might just want to just push this red over the pocket just to take out the possibility of a free ball looks like he’s got a snooker back himself though to come off the cushion missed it I think that might be the handshake yeah and that is the end of that match so hansome proceeds through let’s just go over to the side table now so we can just put all our focus into this game so just discussing where the Q wall is going to go on the miss the um nothing in it in this match between Mark and Sam 38 points to 40 first frame you EX is Brad for for thank you for for for for I’m you good I’m [Applause] you clean the virtual one okay hello there everybody and welcome back to the 2020 24 United States national Snooker Championship David Bernie’s back in the booth take my little schedule union break as they like to say it’s nice to see that Christian has done a little magic over here again he had to run off to play in his match but we’ve got uh ding banjos over here we’ve got a match between Andy mclusky and Arafat Amat on the left side and Sam McGrath going against Mark zegler not sure if Mark has any relation to Floyd Ziggler Great Canadian player so we’ll keep it on the the two table setup right here there’s lots of importance here Sam is Victorious have a three and0 record put him on a high seed there you got any comments or questions love to hear from you in the chat looks like it’s been quite active always good debates going on there let us know where you’re tuning in from snooker does reach all corners of planet Earth yeah little tactical Affair over here at the Sam McGrath and Floyd zagler so yeah he’s kind of getting into the balls just jump to that fortunate Blue’s all the way up the table there a tricky pink and if he is to miss it he’s going to leave his opponent nice position there so take on that yellow try and continue the break and the the reigning Seattle snooker open Champion starting up uh some coaching up there in his native Sacramento just might to ran out a bit of position here that red near the top left corner Black Blocks that maybe he can take this red to the yellow pocket gave it a shot nice little 17 he looked a little bit more see how a fat can respond wow it’s a nice red there this young man can definitely P them from distance think I came back at the right time this is definitely exciting match here fortun he goes in off there must be a Conant mistake so Andy’s struggling a little bit his opponent a good position here both players here undefeated so they’re more just playing for seaing in this one same with Mar can Sam on our other feature table work the way air fat has handled himself around the table Andy we know is a tough customer it’s first time I’ve seen airat I mentioned about Dark Horses oh the commentator’s curse just comes just one I think he was getting going and this definitely feels like a heavyweight aair here both players trading punches putting in little breaks here and there maybe not too happy with this pink love to be a little bit higher oh can you believe well he’s okay would have been completely unfortunate for him there’s a beautiful pink lots of Q Power flick off the green green and almost found the bottom of that side pocket as we said more white balls are finding in the bottom of the middle pockets and reds just didn’t roll enough for him there’s a path for this pot into the left middle with this red for Randy was there but middle Pockets so tricky yeah salmon Mark just having a safety exchange on another featured TV table is this Frame is getting close to conclusion we’re going to stick here on this match this conclusion we’ll just pop over to our other feature table his heart was in his throat there red almost didn’t drop looks like he’s got a good angle on the blue to get down table colossal right there it’s one thing to miss the pot you hang your head and then you go in off of it it’s coming to five penalty points that head slowly slams down on the table in frustration but just one point in it 43 on tight first frame here but free flowing both players going for their pots I don’t know if we threw Andy mcclusky into the conversation yesterday but he definitely could be a favorite US national coach for he fortunate there with the Miss as the Red’s gone rather safe against the bult cushion yeah maybe air Fat’s been watching a bit of the stream knowing how tricky those middle pockets are good hit there very nicely done Cy in a bit of trouble here I think heed a bit of Fortune I don’t think he wanted to take three cushions to hit it just using the two but Luck of the Irish gets in there he left the pot on to the left middle for airat only the pink on its spot for could come off the top cushion here and get near that black CU ball to go the other way but he’s left an opening here air has been uh nailing in these long pots with ease definitely a swift moving frame here but both players are playing quickly 11 points in it 25 on and he needs to run the table pink looks like it’s tied to that bulk cushion so that makes it just a little bit easier it’s always tough if there’s a millimeter off he’s got a nice angle on this blue to come up for the pink need them both believe it’s 4140 for mclusky going to risk it on the final block there air fat can force a black ball respot he’s able to take the black in certainly went for it on his first opportunity has to pull up a bit half a chance little tricky because Andy’s got to use the rest unless he does have a little bit of a chance this for the first frame of this best of three just Ratt a bit gave it the pace so it didn’t sit in the jaws of the pocket but and he’s kind of playing with house money obviously he isn’t losing the frame with this black goes in be good and safe May oh he like to have that shot back but he’s close it’s always tough going from one side of the table the other but he has left it pretty safe safe there andy acknowledges with the tap on the table look at this double look at this double what a shot there by Andy so he takes that first frame let’s just quickly jump on over we’ll have to do a little side by side as that’s where the score is so looks like Sam McGrath has a 25o advantage do have Mark and snooker like Sam definitely has the angle on that red that’s near the blue but it looks like there might be a path for this red he’s cannon into that yellow to hold for the black hopefully he’s got a bit of an angle to come back table just get a real whip of some draw if it’s straight on come off the cushion and come back for a red we’ll just keep our attention glued to the right side that’s where I’m going to put my commentary we’ll come back to mclusky and AMT in a few short moments we’ll see if Sam McGrath Sam McGrath I mean can take this Frame and uh take the match number two take a look at Cloud snooker.org cloud.com at the conclusion of today the 32 player knockout phase will be solidified and we’ll be starting tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time it’s 9:00 a.m. on the West Coast 31 Point Advantage for Sam with 51 on so Mark definitely has the opportunities there both these players will be moving on they’re both two and 0 nice s played there got a little hindrance from that green that he just pocketed Mark does but he’s got a little bit of an angle it’s not straight on can come out the cushion for the brown really scoots down get the blue just having a look at the scoreboard doing a little bit of arithmetic almost like a Mark Allen Q action there look like it takes a long back swing it’s a bit long but this it’s really quick quick and Powerful for than for nice little break there by Mark has decreased Sam’s lead to only 12 points it’s a nice long green good little flick on the brown s needs brown and blue to put us into the snooker required stage look like this table has some tough middle pockets as well might not be punished too bad oh that camera gives us a great angle we’ll know for sure if that Brown’s going into the top left corner Sam just to play a little bit safe come off the right side of the brown shoots his Q ball towards the pink e see for the mind if Mark just Clips off the right side of that brown shoots his QQ ball down to the top end of the table he doesn’t get the cover but he does get a safe shot there but Sam has missed it characteristically air there I put him in a free bow situation to look from our vantage point but doesn’t look like it was rewarded so attemp number two here for Sam heast get a sniff of Hope there for Mark this brown is definitely on it’s a thin cut when it’s off the cushion by a few inches Mark doeses need to run the table he needs blue pink and black this blue is Samsung frame ball put all this concentration in definitely the camx of each frames and you can see that frame ball right in front of you those Pockets really close up make it a lot more difficult and that double with the element of safety the double kiss trying to cut this into the yellow Punk he going to be a little bit mindful of the in off did well to avoid it good out acknowledged by a tap on the table by Sam 6 pressure building this blue just becomes that much more important it seems Sam’s able to put in the pocket obviously it is his frame ball if Mark’s able to put it in he lives to fight another day has to get all the remaining three color bows on the table to push us into a decider looks like on the left side of the screen looks like Andy’s got a good break going over there safe shot on both sides of this green look like s’s in the snooker behind the pink on the right side and green has covered up the path for aat to hit the red could just you it’s going swerve it a little bit to hit that red by the black on the left side of the screen good hit good hit by Sam looks the heavens there Mark he’s no he left a long long long blue for Sam and saving grace as it is close to the cushion but full concentration needed here those pockets are going to just increase in size now as it’s required stage here actually apologies it is not Mark can still take this frame without needing the snooker that’s there’s 12 points in it and 13 on the table so that was a big big pink that Sam had missed lots of pressure on that pink are capable to take it yeah really doesn’t like this Black Cube allall tight to the cushion so he doesn’t have to do really anything with it just has to make sure it finds the bottom of the pocket this black oh and it’s there so we’re going to a decider here with Sam McGrath and Floy Mark Zigler not Floyd Zigler just step by to our feuture table there we’ll come back and tune into that match let me see what happens there meanwhile over here aat is just put in the yellow got a 21 Point Advantage a bit more actually okay so he had a little bit of break going before he faltered on that uh green but Andy definitely knows his way around the snooker table Charing by 29 with 25 just needs the one snooker and then clear the colors force a black ball respa I think give it time Manhattan he’s uh mentioned that he’d like to see the split screen obviously if they were both at cameras were at the ball cend unfortunately with the the time I think Christian just uh you know got got into his handiwork and there wasn’t enough time just to place a camera up it’s pretty tight around uh where Sam McGrath and Mark zagler are playing been tough to get a camera here in there obviously it’s potential but that would probably take a lot of drilling and into the ceiling and place making a lot of noise so hopefully for next year well we’re not sure we we’re going to be next year for the US Nationals but I’m pretty sure they’ll have fantastic cameras so both our matches here are in decider both starting up in the third frame if one gets closer than the other we might just jump over to fill the screen there and right now these matches they’re just playing for seating all four players on our featured TV tables right here or 2 and 0 so winner of each of these separate matches will go three and0 and be the higher seed in the group moving on to the knockout phase that starts tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time nice Cut there by Andy on the left side of the screen nicely on the blue is he going to come in and smash open those Reds certainly was giving it a try I know he’s missed everything but he hasn’t sold anything really out look like it was a touching ball for [Music] just get a can into anytin red down there the top end so cross double here the element of safe for Andy on the left side of your screen double kissed it but it’s okay well Sam McGrath WTH putting together a nice little break here and their deciding frame he done nicely just to flick out that red it’s a thin cut though just want to go into this middle pocket it’s lose control of the cuq ball Sam is a little bit more Miss red he’s left a relatively easy opener for Mark Sam does have a 22-point advantage 1 little unfortunate there for Mark that black just rattled in the Jaws just delicately needs to put this into the side little short see he was thinking about that black where he really wanted to put the cuq ball but maybe took his mind off the pot just a little bit for oh a lot of movement there yeah takes one but Val seven points towards the Sam got a couple of Reds hovering around the middle of the table which he Blues rather there’s a safe on the right side of the table but Black’s wide out in the open potentially this brown finding the bottom of the green pocket this black might be coming right into our living room into that middle pocket there great vantage point from the camera there maybe saw something we didn’t see about going deep to the green pocket St to tell from our vantage point but it LO like the green was blocking the path but I guess not yeah arat was playing with house money there much with this one red in the jaws of the top left corner I was for sure he was going to be able to get it in didn’t end anything for her great sportsmanship there Sam I’m just reminding Mark that he has ball in hand so he can shoot anywhere in the DK just so tunnel vision he’s about to take that shot off the cushion up it’s co for it’s a nice long pot there by Sam on the right side of the table it’s definitely tricky black I wanted to take it going to play safe increases Sam’s lead to 30 points 36-6 side and he’s still at the table so believe he will be leading in this deciding frame we don’t have a designated scorekeeper to get up toate scoring Andy just coming around to see where he wants to put his CU ball after this blue to give him the greatest Advantage for the last Red both these players on the left side Andy and Arafat have brought their pot and boots today just jumped and just kind of deadened all the speed that it has and he’s he’s s at himself like just jump over to this main table real quickly as they’re now onto the colors we’ll come back to that other deciding frame there this is good timing because we’ll see what the updated score here what Andy’s break was so he aead by 24 with 27 on yellow definitely is his frame ball there might be a potting path here for this yellow no just a little too thin be quite a clearance here for aat oh the curse of the commentator comes to bite him money apologies arath like he possibly could run away with that steal the frame was Andy’s Frame ball there so looking promising to be the top seed in this group not a certainty just yet it’s only one snooker that is required LS kind of a an interesting spot there no real color ble is safe pink is gone relatively safe that’s nice for Randy clever shot there by airat some shot of that Brown went in but he’s taking the pink off the cushion put in a nice little spot for Snookers he’s got a beautiful one here behind the blue he’s doing what he needs to do double Kiss by a F could be his last shot in this round robin match it’s a long brown it’s difficult that was a 10 cushion shot there it seems like Pandy definitely shot that with Force let’s put him in a tough position here cuz air fat can get the snooker I don’t know why he had to hit it that hard they should be able to come off the one cushion to hit the brown here so almost got the snooker there look like there’s a thin path oh just at the [Applause] jaw like he’s trying to cut it into the yellow just off yeah they’ve got three Reds on our other TV table swamp back to that I think at the conclusion of this Frame for he’s got the snooker behind the blue did but it was a Oh and there’s the concession there hits the blue Air F just a little frustrated there Chance The Middle Pockets they’ve been tricky but Andy mcclusky takes that match by two frames to one so he’ll be the top seed coming out of that group but Arafat will be into The Knockout phase that starts tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. we just jump back to our TV table here 45- 13 Advantage for Sam McGrath pink covering these two Reds so definitely snooker was of business 33 in it and 43 on so all Sam needs is a red and a color ell he’s got the red and can he get past this he’s got the angle on the black this still put us into the snooker’s acquired stage oh the pl just doesn’t go it’s fortunate enough obviously with that pink right behind pink or the red behind the pink doesn’t really have a pot here so 34 in it and 35 on so Mark needs red with black and then run the table for the win or red with pink and run the table and force a black ball respot so it’s an uphill battle for Mr zagler but stranger things have happened on a snooker table there a chance of a free ball with that final red on the table that Mark needs it right now but it could be handy to him just cuz the run out looks pretty tough with the blue safe on the left cushion just can’t believe how much that cuq ball ran he’s got a pathway for the pink into the left middle thing if he just rolls up to the black that one red will put us at the Snookers required stage so he’s definitely going to have to earn them there way he needs a pink or the black to give him some kind of hope he knows it that’s why he’s just taking that much time that much concentration on this shot pressure shot on the pink he’s got it there wanted to run a little bit more that’s screen been a little bit of a nuisance with that yellow it’s a bit fortunate we might have the snooker there Sam looking a little deflated now we might have another match tonight as we’ve got two four matches in progression right here he’s GI them opportunity this blue is of Paramount importance right now it’s the only one that’s really safe going back there there’s four matches on the table obviously this is a best of three there’s another best of three but there’s actually two matches that are best of fives just because they’re in groups of three of how it worked out just for equal frame differential so those two best of five matches need to come to conclusion CU then we have two more best of five matches after that so we’ll definitely have to check with our tournament director if we are going to put on another match on the TV table this evening but we do have to wait for a couple matches of those best of FS to come to conclusion before we get into those other matches so big shot here always giving him the chance so just been formed by co- tournament director stevenh Wong does a lot of great stuff here not only owner operator 2002 US national snooker Champion he’s also kind of doing a little TV producing as well he’s informed me that this will be the final match of our broadcast here so we’ll be going off the air here it’s potential on maybe table five our good friend Rob Richards at the obsa at Ontario Snookers snooker tournaments that handle on YouTube or as well as at on the San Gabriel Embassy Billiards Club Channel we do have a match in progress there that’s on that stream so this will be my f final match tonight but definitely looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow here at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time when we kick off The Knockout phase of this great tournament paper thin here if he likes to go into the side look for the yellow definitely a smarter Choice when they’re that thin there is a worry that you put the foul don’t want to make it easy for Mark to crawl back want to make him earn it does need to get all three balls on the table for Mark to force us into a black ball respot blue could be in worser places for Mark oh it’s definitely not the way you want to win it fortunate enough both these players are going to be moving on Sam will be the higher seed in this group Mark just needs one snooker though I don’t think it’s going to be concession just just yet it’s an uphill battle 23 13 on so he does need two Snookers but pla’s in a nice spot we just missed the trick there cuz the longer the longer this battle goes here the pressure builds on Sam that he should have killed it off a little earlier but just needs to tuck this into the middle pocket he does oh not there for just want to put everything safe here see this point it’s tough place to see where he’s going to get the snooker like to have that one back it’s definitely a long pink but this for framing match for Sam McGrath just can’t find it rattling the Jaws Sam’s gfin Mark a lifeline oh it misses there that’s going to be handshakes there so Val enough for there by Mark Ziggler but he’s not going to go home really upset he knows he’s still in The Knockout phase but would have liked to be the higher seed of the group but Sam McGrath coming all the way from s Valley up there in San Jose is moved on so uh Smiles handshakes they’re both moved on both wishing each other best of luck to carry on so that’s going to conclude day two here at the 2024 United States national Snooker Championship from the broadcast booth that is we do still have some matches in play I think they’ve got a lot of importance of what’s going to happen in a knockout phase so definitely go over to Cloud snooker.org Championship tab as we as well there is results but probably getting into about 8:00 9:00 tonight on the West Coast Pacific time take a look at that website as The Knockout round should be formed as a lot of these matches are getting close to their Climax and what can we say tomorrow we’re going to start windling it down we’ve taken away 28 players as there were 60 strong in this event now we’ve got at 32 and by the end of tomorrow on Sunday we’re going to have the final four that will give us a championship Monday so we appreciate all your viewership all day long everybody hope you en enjoyed it I appreciate you bringing me into your home or wherever you’re finding the stream it’s been lots of fun we’ve had some great guests in here Christian youngers has done a great job of being the streaming producer he’s at the table and a match right now but from Embassy Billiards here in San Gabriel California it’s David Bernie saying good night everybody take care and we’ll see you tomorrow 9:00 a.m. for The Knockout phase until then take care everyone
