and um it’s a priv and honor to be your host today to uh watch this final round fin final round robin match uh between Luis Vega and young H Lee there are three flights of qual of of players that came out of the qualification round and um we down to the top 21 players each flight has seven players and only two from each group of will advance uh and two of the third place finishers will advance okay and this event here is a tribute to his uh contributions to the game and as a player uh he inspired so many of the players that played this event and uh it’s fitting that we’re having this uh 70th the weekend uh through the weekend the final mat semi-finals and final match will be held on Sunday and uh for the rest of today and tomorrow we’re going to be finishing this semi-final round robin so uh in the three groups we’re going to try to pick the best matches from each of the three groups to present to you on this uh presentation table and uh so I hope you’ll join us and follow along once wait wait [Applause] wait it’s 35o game right okay [Applause] okayo the lag he opens up [Applause] [Applause] Vega has to make a very very thin hit to make this shot and he executes it absolutely perfectly look how thin he has to hit [Applause] this he just Clips it right there and makes that point over here he goes four rails he’s playing at a really quick pace and the balls are wide open here just looking at maybe double the rail here a lot of ball oh an excellent excellent shot for number five right off the break this is why the brake shot is so important guys and why it’s usually the last shot that the they practiced during the their practice section dungu Lee is one of the New York top three cushion players and house house pros at Kum Cafe and that’s six L Vega starting out really strong stun this to the upper left excellent seventh Point thisa plays so fast let see how he gets way up in the corner finds a perfect line to score you’re successful avoids a hole oh this reverse shot he plays it like a natural beautiful eight and he opens up a short angle for himself he’s looking to make a big run here he’s that’s nine guys and he’s in perfect position he only needs to make sure he doesn’t go in a hole here which he does that’s a 10 folks Ora really making a statement here about he knows how dangerous Yu is or Yu can be but lisega is a very very seasoned player International player from Ecuador he’s won this s Le tournament many times very nice I believe he won uh tournament here last year being typon tesir in the final if you notice he’s he’s really controlling the balls here solving all the problems avoiding holes staying in perfect line giving himself options it’s on a very very nice clip no short angle here but you can run this all the way up to the upper left corner and then and he misses number 13 but that’s a beautiful run of 12 right out of the gate he stuns this ball a little bit too full all jumped if you see if you saw that his C Ball jumped might have skid which in three cushion they call a bage and that’s the reason why he missed so young you here looking to respond to the Run of 12 which is not easy to do didn’t have the easiest natural position but Returns the table right back to Lis AA who seems to be already in dead strike he jumps up almost Nails a five cushion and gives it right back so now yungu has a very very makeable bank shot he needs to make sure he doesn’t return the favor I mean return the the table right back fortunately he misses it a little bit long I think he was a little bit shocked by Luis Vega’s 12o run off the break lisega really needs to keep those momentum going he wants to lock this up this is not a 20. fivepoint game like it was in the qualifications before we’re now playing 35 points so short enough a little bit too long beautiful shot by Young you he plays this as a backup he doesn’t have the angle to go behind it so he plays it as a backup and just hits it from behind very nice shot BYU he needs to keep building this momentum very nice on the adjoining table on the adjoining table uh Alexander salsar just ran 21 and that’s the sort of thing that yungu really needs to do right now because he’s uh already started he has to respond to Lis Vegas 12 but the 21 that we just has happened on the uh the table right in front of us is very likely going to be the high run of of the event oh and another shot by Young you that’s a four speaking of high runs one of our the seated players here uh his name is Jun Kim has now become an international Superstar because he just ran the highest run ever in three Christian Billiards just less than a month ago during a World Cup Tournament Jun Kim uh ran 28 and out which in three cushion Billiards is a huge huge achievement has never happened before in the history of our game um a run of 28 has happened before by kulman camori Ren forto and uh trer hron but never 28 and out so uh if anybody can beat the high run of 21 that Alexander house are just made uh right Beyond us on the next table uh it it could be Jun Kim so uh be sure to to to come try to witness this come join us for the rest of the week we’re being very inspired by saying Lee’s 70th anniversary celebration here so there’s a lot of great three cushion bards happening at carum a don’t want to miss it young Yu here now on his third inning and on a run of five it’s very thin hit here to pass the kiss let’s see if he can get just goes too short so that’s a run of five super shot by Lis Vega not easy hits a nice firm stun shot just spin it back and uh he makes this look so easy but you know to keep these open positions is is a real challenge successfully avoids red kissing this yellow and let’s see if he can just gets in the hole [Applause] he almost makes it and misses it just by a hair so now Yung Yu has a shot he’s going to spin this all the way up the long rail he’s going to avoid the hole and Spins it down very nice shot by Yu Young G is one of the top players in New York he the onetime runner up in the US Nationals about 20 years ago um he’s retired for the game for about 15 years and he’s come back um working really hard on his game he had a little bit of a struggle in the preliminary rounds but nevertheless he’s back in Action he and his brother are both both made it into this finals semi-final round robin I should say we will determine the top eight using in this in this round robin and they’ll play in in a single elimination at that time Luisa looking to play a five here just going to look for this backup is it too deep it’s a little too deep table slipping reverse English on that last long rail acts on the on the short Rail and then misses it natural Bank chot with with natural position here he just Taps it in yu yungi wants to make the best of this situation on the very makeable shots he needs to connect very nice shot by Young youth believe he has an ability to play the short angle from the red still requires a very very thin inside English hit should be able to find another makeable shot if he makes this just doesn’t clip it thin [Applause] now L looking for the double the rail beautiful shot let’s watch that he had so much spin very tight spin it’s one of his special signature shots I’ve seen him play this over and over during this tournament judges a little bit he stuns this into the corner so he has a little follow there and then there enough English to go right back to that long rail beautiful shot so lisega is waiting for the joining table can either play this as a bank shot which he looks like he’s going to do this short long long very tight in the corner and just misses it hits that really good let’s watch that shot again go really tight into the corner he ends up hitting the red a little bit too full just by about a millimeter and then misses the cam great effort by Vega young you playing rail first here real first with the spin is you find a hold finds a hole both players playing a very attacking style Lisa goes through this ball with tons of English even a little body English unable to connect see he goes very full on this ball just doesn’t quite hook forward quite enough with the extra body English misses interested to see how he solves this he doesn’t seem to have an angle oh he plays it the long way and that’s a great solution really good solution does he find a hole goes right in the hole very unfortunate put a good effort because that is a hard shot if L can avoid a kiss with the yellow you should be able to make this and he does now Lua might have a Ticky here or he’ll play oh he’s going to play something off the red this is very interesting either he’ll feather thin it which he does does he avoid the kiss yes he does does he find a hole oh great effort by Lua so many problems with this shot he avoids uh kissing the yellow on the way in he avoids kissing the red but then his Q ball finds a hole and misses his Target very good effort though on a very difficult shot pretty basic shot by Young [Applause] U just can’t seem to find some easy position this one’s pretty challenging looks like he’s going to try to do a cross table long long long but that’s very challenging here a really good effort very difficult a little bit of Defense here also looks like uh AA has a plan though he’s going to do some some kind of shot off this yellow four rails let see if he can avoid a hole here avoids the kiss makes a beautiful shot it looks like B is connecting with all his shots he’s able to avoid all the kisses and like that one and he scores he’s checking to see if the the ball is Frozen On The Rail if it is then he can’t double the short Rail and uh and I guess you can be sure he’s asking Yu to check to make sure that that the shot is not frozen so that means he’s going to go for the double the rail shop he didn’t want to presume that it was without giving young you the opportunity to check it so he’ll play the double the rail and that’s a beautiful shot that opens up the position he should be able to play away from the red hit the yellow withraw and go and attack that big ball Corner he’s playing with such confidence and with a with a with a beautiful Rhythm solves all the problems including avoiding um any hole that’s run of [Music] three looks like he’s lining up try to hit short long long one of sang Le’s special signature shots where he judged just the reverse English on this last rail on the slide looks like he does it too but doesn’t hit it hard enough just misses a beautiful effort run of three now yungo is going to play a five rail shot he’s got to make sure this yellow doesn’t going collide with the white ball cuz the white ball is going to be right in the path oh he avoided it altogether just to play a three cushion direct great [Applause] choice now does the short backup happen ooh not at that speed but he plays with a little defense here because Vega’s Frozen to the rail now and quite a difficult shot he’s walked over here almost to to to look like he’s going to he’s looking to play an umbrella he could also stroke it off the yellow and then swing it across for a long long short that looks really hard to me though he’s looking at potentially playing an umbrella shot two rails to the red I would love to see this shot one of the most difficult shot forms the umbrella he misses the ball misjudging that completely and gives jungu a chance here and you looking for his best option I think he’s going to hit the red in and play a very flat short angle into the middle of long rail 1 2 3 4 5 doesn’t quite hit it full enough a Vega can either double the rail or if he can pass the kiss he can go three rails off the red wonderful shot by Vega he avoided banking the red ball into the kiss Vega looking to hit a very small third rail right behind the red see if he can do it he attacks he attacks aggressively leaves Le youngu the four rail a four here very comfortable with his 10-point lead players are only playing for 35 points 10 more points than in the preliminary round qualification round and I believe that in the final they’re going to play play in the last when they reach the last eight they will play um even more [Applause] points this too short might be too short [Applause] long long short beautiful shot by aega can’t get a anything but a perfect position with this spe hit it it’s absolute perfection It’s a Wonderful Joy watching aega Play Always leaving himself easy shots now we’ll play five rails four rails to the back back of the yellow and bring the red to the middle of the table let’s watch that no FES quite easy for him to score and a nice kiss off that yellow gives him another makeable shot the shots are not just makeable he’s able to produce more positions from these positions absolutely love the way AA is playing right now he’s playing almost perfectly I mean you have to really just enjoy this is how f vill is meant to be played he’s going to be elevating here with a uh a mass shot he feels so comfortable right now he’s in deadstroke folks oh wow take a look at this he is in a Zone he is in Dead Stroke and Yu he really has to come make a huge comeback and he can do it he definitely can do it but the performance that aa’s putting on right now is very impressive this is a run of Five Guys oh a little bit of a rush shot careless shot but he widens his lead at 24 and now they their players are looking to take a mid-table break yungu will need to regroup I’m going to use this opportunity to thank everyone for joining us here for the sang Le 70th anniversary celebration we are honoring uh Sly by celebrating his legacy in the room that he co-founded with Michael Kang and um I feel very honored and privileged to be uh you know in the position to be hosting this because uh so many players here and myself included have been inspired by Zang Le in this in this SP in this wonderful sport I believe it’s three cushion Billiards is one of the greatest uh ball games ever invented and um if you love to spin the ball this is a Q Sport that can give you years of Joy because you never stop learning in this game and it’s one of the things that as students of the game learning you know learning how to control the CU ball learning trying to control all the balls on a billiard table uh it’s it’s a wonderful game and uh having been inspired by Stang Lee and having this opportunity to celebrate his life U he would have been 70 years old uh if he were alive uh he was taken from us uh 20 years ago uh due to cancer and um but we have to feel thankful and privileged that he had opened up this this bilard room carum Cafe in New York so that all of us really um enjoy the game carum Cafe is a is like almost an institution for three cushion Billiards and but it’s also uh almost like a um like a billiard School in the sense that you can learn all disciplines here he’s got 14 carum tables four snooker tables 20 20 pool tables and uh uh it’s it so many crossover players where you can just jump from one table to other perfect conditions uh the tables are vacuumed and clean set of fresh set of balls sure he doesn’t find the hole with the white he needs to connect with it he goes for five rails long Mi it he now seems to have a double the rail shot that almost identical to the one that Luis AA played he’s going to dose this with a maximum left English and try to stun it into the corner there does he overdo it he overdoes it seems a little rushed on that shot but it was a good effort challenging position all three balls are nearly Frozen to the rail including ao’s Q ball which makes queuing very difficult I’m curious to see what he’s going to try to do looks like he’s going to try to to play a short long short or a short short short uh shot yes he tries to play short short short he plays it one more short with a high speed that was a really good effort very close on an extremely difficult position and now y has a chance to either play this off the red or clip the white and and and play it short long short looks like he’s going to go for attacking the outside of the red and backing out of this corner be underneath the white no kiss problems you should be able to uhoh it he lets he slips out of it seemed to hit a little bit too thin on that ball that he wanted to and it looks like aega has this maximum spin with left English long long short and if he has a lot of spin will be able to make this ball big slips forward and hooks forward but as you see he plays it with a very smart speed difficult shot interested to see how he’s going to solve this problem you could attempt a bank shot but then even the bank shot doesn’t look easy let’s take a look at it from this angle oh he’s may be looking to play two rails first hit it very full this is extremely difficult it’s very easy to go into that hole between the red and the that way [Applause] oh a very good effort extremely good effort for [Applause] [Applause] that’s one point for theyo you struggling a little bit with this table ah young is looking to play rail first from the red and then two more rails it’s got to be hit hitting this with the perfect speed and a beautiful shot [Applause] be looking to do something off of this red ball you can try to play it extremely long which I think is what he’s going to do all the way flat stun it to the corner is it long enough is it fast enough just makes it beautiful shot by yungu a great choice and uh pretty good reward here if you can feather this white and just play the short long long sang Le style shot he’ll have a natural position as long as he doesn’t find a hole perfect that’s a runner three he needs to make his move now if he’s going to have any chance in this game and he can do this but overcoming that 12 points is is the challenge here aside from that 12 points Luis Vega and Y yungu are neck and neck but a 12 that especially that 12 in the first inning is quite quite a big run so making up that ground is not easy Yu connects avoids all the kisses very skillfully and has another good position not without challenge though you can try to go five rails you can go off the inside of the red he’s got to make sure that red doesn’t go bother the white looks like he’s going to play three rails Spin and just makes it a little too flat okay but that’s a run of four makes up some ground he still has n still 9 points behind it’s only 16 Innings and uh Lisa has 25 points Vegas just so good at that type of shot and he’s been using that to string together a lot of different big runs five here avoiding a kiss with the red beautiful shot should have the back up very nice he is making another charge points it seems getting his momentum back going to play this short long long once again we used to call these sang Le shots but there’s a hole here he has to avoid a hole with the red and he does perfectly plays just three but the balls don’t look like they’re cooperating right now just looks like it’s going to be a very very difficult shot I’ll tell you this shot looks seems almost impossible I mean he can go rail first but then you’d have to almost feather the ball he’s going to try that he going to try to feather it he does he actually hits it too thin but an interesting choice to play it off of that ball to feather the all cuz he he just returns him another impossible shot for a young you I shouldn’t say impossible because this shot is actually uh makeable he could hit low left on the left side of the white and try to do some sort of cross table shot ah or if he can you can play this as a bank shot pretty be trying to feather thin this ball yes he’s trying this is a bank shot he needs to catch that rail he tried to catch the the long rail a little a little more long long Rail and then kick into the white on the way back but he went a little too deep in the corner this is the pit car Cafe with all the arena lights Vega looking to play this bank shot off of the red four rails off of the red ooh and he gets hit on a little bit of Lucky side is it hard enough no almost he clipped the red a little bit too full but other than that it was an extremely good effort just absolutely love how he’s been attacking these points young is looking to snake this ball off the short rail very difficult shot very difficult shot as he pulled back enough not quite five rails oh he plays it as a short angle very nice he just just Nicks it and the table opens up again for him I Vega makes some wonderful decisions that always seem to yield more points a little Lucky in that corner there but very very good shot catches a couple of edges on those last two and he’s he needs five points to win this [Applause] game FEA Thin Beautiful stroke playing with a wonderful energy and Rhythm yungu just hasn’t had a chance to uh recover from that smooth 12 that Vega made off the break shot shows you just how important the opening lag is he take make sure that the yellow doesn’t come into play and he kicks in perfectly underneath the red for another position Jess makes it AA definitely catching all of the edges here AA is playing for three looks like he’s going to try to do some try to flatten the angle here underneath this ball see if he can do it wow what a shot beautiful Stroke by aega and he’s playing for two the way Vega’s playing he could win this whole tournament of course he’s got a few Heavy Hitters that he’s got to contend with including the world record breaker does he make it a good effort just caught a little bit too much Ball but uh that’s a run of five and Y Yu back at the table he’s got to make a big run here his only chance Vega looking very poised to finish this in one inning very confident stroke beautiful shot open table but position is not easy it really isn’t makeable you can go long long short or long long long or you can go to the end rail I that’s what he’s doing oh he’s going to play this as a short angle very short four rails all right let’s see did he make it is he going to slip beautiful shot by y Yu in the presser situation and now he’s got a little bit of an opening here he could go around the table but that red ball he doesn’t want that red ball to either run into the white or find a line where his Q ball needs to be so he’s got to cut that red very precisely CU that red could be reappear somewhere else on the table as a kiss first he’s got to make sure doesn’t kiss into the white then he’s going to decide if he’s going to go directly into the White and he does directly into the white beautiful shot solve the problem that was not an easy shot guys and Yung Yu on a run of three it’s going to play this to the end Rail and spin it in ooh he he misses the he misses the short rail it’s a dead corner he tried to hit the short rail but ended up just getting the long rail deep in the corner if he had hit the short rail he probably would have made it and now a Vega is playing got a short short angle here he cinches very nice stroke he playing for one Powers it in and wins the game 35 to 17 and only 19 Innings very very good game by Luis AA it’s really that run of 12 that uh that he opened up with that shocked young Yu he just couldn’t quite ever recover and get and and and and get his game plan together but a lot of credit to AA a wonderful run uh very confident play great position play all for the entire game um if that gives you a sense of this is just the first round of the semi-final game if that gives you a sense of of just how strong the play is here uh it absolutely is on the table right across from us we we we were able to see that Alexander Salasar uh ran a 21 and we haven’t even gotten a chance to see um Jun Kim the world record holder who as I mentioned before just recently ran a 28 and out uh young player only 29 years old and we are uh just I feel so privileged that we have this chance to to watch all these great players that have come descended to New York and and and participate in this sang Le 70th anniversary celebration event obviously we’re playing in the room that sang Lee uh uh co-founded with Michael Kang and we’re very thankful for Michael Kang to to to create this event and for us to be able to bring it to you um I absolutely am uh excited about what’s what’s in store for the rest of this uh for the rest of today and for the throughout the weekend as we have uh boiled down to the top 21 players of the field and after the next two days we’ll have we’ll determine who’s going to make it to the final eight round eight player knockout phase um I hope you’ll join us in uh in and finding out the conclusion of this tournament super exciting if you’re in town please come to Kum
