guard play was uh very good tonight um was that something that you thought that would be able to exploit especially so or well we’ve got good guards of course I mean we got good guards that compete on both ends of the floor I thought they did a really good job defensively against bigger guards and they were trying to post them up and uh one of the things that we talked about offensively is attacking the basket you post and penetration I felt like our guards could get to the rim anytime that they wanted to and really put a lot of pressure on the rim and they were able to do that youber one thing that you emphasize a lot is with the pace the defense and the rebounding kind of dictating that pace getting those stops and things like that how did you see particularly in that second half how did you see the defense dictating the pace and allowing you guys to get out in transition well I I I felt like defensively um there was a couple things one we were able to get Steals and deflectors I can’t remember how many turnovers we forced but we were able to get our hands on a lot of balls and deflections that allow us to get out in transition uh two we held them to two second chance points in the second half opposed to 12 in the first half so that allowed us to be able to get out in transition as well so first game all year we’ve been out rebounding so I’m not happy with that but um I felt like we uh the way that we reacted and responded in the second half in terms of defensively and finishing the possession with the rebound I thought was much better especially Second Chance opportunities in the second half you you mentioned those Second Chance opportunities uh in that first half what do you think was kind of giving you guys I know 32 was getting a lot of rebounds what do you think was kind of giving you guys trouble in that their size and their will and their want to and I told the guys in in the uh at halftime and I said you just not going to be able to move move me off of this it has nothing to do about physical size in terms of rebounding and loose balls it has everything to do with the size of your heart so just is what it is they were more aggressive in the first half and they were tougher and uh we had to we had to respond in the second half we were able to do that I think they got back to six for a little bit there what you guys do to adjust at that PL yeah I mean Hawaii’s a good team I mean they’re undefeated they’ve won all of their games here at home and really good rebounding team really good at attacking the bassing and getting to the free throw line and then they had a couple guys that got hot from three and number five and 34 so um that put us in some positions where we needed to respond uh but you know we’ve been in that situation before at Memphis at Kansas and we’re able to step it up again hbert Elliott’s ability obviously finish over bigger dudes is something we talked about but his El it it is but maybe the the way he’s able to not get out of control on some of those drives where he’s moving so fast and making so many different moves I mean he’s in control he’s control of his body does a really good job you know he’s he’s strong too so he can take a hit and still stay on balance in the air and be able to finish he can finish with either hand he can go either direction and so when he drives into the lane he has a great understand when to shoot when to pass and you know when he’s on the floor great things happen guys just hang on just a couple more it is really late for us we got an early flight tomorrow so just a couple more before we bring the players thanks just just to follow up on that real quick because he got the second foul so early in the game was it a difficult decision on how long to sit him I mean was like 6 ft R yeah I want I don’t want to take him out but you know and and then um I was also thinking about RJ he was in the game for a long time so you know for him being as well and so um that’s a great thing about our team we have so many multiple uh Playmakers and so Seth can run the show Drake can run the show I can and so we’re able to do that until we were able to get uh um Elliot back in the game the first half play second half couple more about dealing with the Zone uh yeah what were the issues with the zone no was no issues I mean they had only play three possessions of Zone all year and uh we were prep there for and um I thought our set plays against the Zone got us really good looks and shots uh once we started attack in the middle get the ball below free throw line extended attack in the basket that’s when we were able to get some shots and get fou and get to the free throw line so I thought we responded really well to a team that normally do play on to see some fire from Kate Tyson seems like on some of those finishes great yeah that one he finish and then I felt like he was talking a little bit of junk which I I like because he was showing emotion and um the toughness that he showed in the second half not just U making moves and scoring but I felt like he was really good defensively I was really proud of him how about did this game show the importance of Elliott how the game went when he was sitting on V in the first half and how it went when he’s back in the G well I wouldn’t I wouldn’t connected to Elliot being on the bench I would connected to Hawaii playing really well they’re a good basketball team they were on their home floor and they made a run they had guys being able to step up uh 32 there a beast down on the Block and you know him get Second Chance opportunities we had a double team every time he threw the ball in the post it’s just feel like we could guard a oneon-one so give credit to Hawaii um Terri extremely well coached and um they’re going to have a fantastic seu Hubert I know you like obviously having a lot of Playmakers out there on the court and then by starting Kad Trimble and RJ that certainly allows you to do that I guess when you were repping it in the offseason when did it kind of click that I guess that Trio as a starting five would kind of you know be a good formula for you all moving forward yeah I mean I just don’t I don’t put a lot of things in the starting five I I don’t dictate the starting five they do and starting five doesn’t mean anything to me I mean it’s they just start the game and but Elliott and RJ and Seth work really well together they play off each other I think they all bring different strengths um out there on the floor that compliment each other and um when they’re out there on the floor it works how much you going to be squawking about rebounding in the next couple days day be hearing it every time all day long all day long cuz it’s coming it’s just not just uh in MA it’s coming for the rest of the year yeah we’re going to have to rebound the basketball I’ve always said it’s the number one determining factor it’s going to be an outcome of the game and uh we just got to do a better job of that just is what it is thanks coach okay thank
