losses to Mid Majors ruers went on the road to Kennesaw State and went down big in the first half ended up losing only by by two but still not a good not necessarily a good loss Notre Dame on the other hand lost at home to Elon and Elon team that is like sneakily better than maybe I thought they would be they have some they have some good guards have some decent big men I’m not just saying that because they uh they stuck around with my Tar Heels for a little bit but the this feels like two teams to me Dion that have talent like obviously Ruckers has Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey who were the the showstoppers the guys who taking all the headlines Notre Dame has some good good guards with both Braden Shrewsberry and Marcus Burton Burton being a 17o per game scorer last year the ACC rookie of the year but what are you looking for between these two teams that have had some Highs but also are coming off of really low lows I think with nor Dame uh this is like a leap year like get to win Harrelson’s on the roster for the most part for them for sure but just continued uh Improvement and continuity within Shrewsberry system right just contined to keep that going uh I’m looking for a lot so uh D Dylan Harper um trying to find a nice way to put this uh Dylan Harper needs to stop passing the ace Bailey like that’s just what it is um he I get it I I actually really appreciate what Dylan Harper is trying to do which is like get his guy going he’s like yo we came here together I need you I still think he needs Ace Bailey for like this team to reach their full potential but at the moment Ace Bailey is potentially one of the worst decision makers I’ve seen on a basketball court um he’s he’s a hell he’s so gifted a hell of a scorer supremely talented um but if you watch him play and I would strongly suggest everybody that’s watching this preview does this watch Ace Bailey play and ask yourself if he is thinking before he moves or if he’s just playing basketball and in my opinion when I watch Ace Bailey play I I’m watching a guy that’s processing the game as it’s happening in front of him and when you do that you’re two steps ahead in your mind of where your body is and then you commit turnovers bad passes sometimes take some bad shots it’s a lot of like hey I haven’t had the ball in a while I’m gonna shoot this regardless if it’s a good shot or not right um versus when the ball’s in Dylan Harper’s hands I feel like this team gets a really nice look um obviously doesn’t always go in they they don’t have a ton of Talent on the roster outside of those two but they get much better looks the offense flows I think the ball just needs to be in his hands more um there’s a couple dudes on this roster I don’t know their names but when I was watching the game like I was convinced they’re only on the roster to shoot if they cannot shoot get them off the roster because like all they did was stand there and shoot one of them hit the side of the backboard like that’s a problem for me um so he needs to figure it out I don’t know his name I’ll figure it out for the recap though um but he hit the side of the back wide openen Corner three side of the I mean it was insane like I was ducking in the living room I thought Cohen Carr was on the court so he needs to figure it out um their big men stink uh and they don’t play very hard so I think they have a lot Ruckers has a lot to work on but uh I think I’ll say this I this is a bit famous quote of mine they’re going to play every game this season with the two best players on the court most likely that’s true I mean I I love how you put it um I think the guy you’re thinking of for Rutgers by the way just not before we get two sidetracked is H he wears number 99 and I am Zack Martini yeah he’s actually shooting 45% from three on the year but he had a he had a really ugly airball from the corner um in that game that that game against Kenesaw where but to your point about Ace and Dylan a ace Bailey to me there’s even a couple instances of this in the State game where he caught the ball in rhythm in the corner and just it it did look like he was overthinking it even before he shot and it’s like a second late and it just results in a Miss as opposed to just catching it and instinctively getting the shot up um I think he gets it together I know we were talking about this Offline that he’s been compared to Jabari Smith I think the highend version of this of this of Ace Bailey is a as a player who can dribble I know that’s been the big knock on Jabari like a he’s supposed to be a 610 Wing who can create off the bounce and you’ve seen flashes of it I think the way he creates separation from his Defender without being an elite elite athlete or like having super Elite quickness is really impressive uh to where maybe you know if you’re Rutgers at this point you just want to you want to keep morale high and get your freshman comfortable I think Ace is the one who you you have to get involved because Dylan Harper like you said I mean his draft stock is still a top five pick he’s looked great I I’ve loved his game um love the way I I just feel like he play plays with a unique Poise for someone his age and has a good sense of when to get his teammates involved but also a good sense of when to take over and get Buckets um but yeah it’s just the rest of this roster is really uninspiring thankfully for them they go against the Notre Dame team that I I’ve already mentioned they’re two good players it’s Braden Shrewsberry Marcus Burton and then you’re sort of just hoping the other guys can be close to serviceable um you know they have some nice wins on the year they blew out town that I think would give you some hope that you know year two under Michael Shrewsberry takes a big step but this is still I think ultimately going to be a bridge year where you hope that you can keep Marcus Burton out of the portal um even looking at this game against Elon that they just lost they got out rebounded by 11 and Elon has pretty good size especially for a mid- major they got a seven4 kid down low but I mean grabbed five rebounds it’s not nothing right home about um but it was just elon’s guards kind of got into the paint at will you see like the the Phoenix shot 61% from two-point range um and most of the damage was done whether it was Nick Dorne our guy we called Nick Dorne showing out against Carolina um TK TK and TJ Simkins who I’m gonna call my shot now and say they’re gonna be playing at NC State next year they feel like Kevin Keats guards um but that’s crazy that that’s what I did just I I know an NC State guard when I see one based on what based on what Kevin Keats has done since he’s been there and they’re twins they’re going to be a package deal but those dudes are like they’re too good for Elon U and that that is where I guess I’ll give give a little bit of credit like elon’s not terrible um but it is really concerning how how easily they let elon’s guards get into the paint and I think that’s where Rutgers exposes them yet again um yeah do you have any leaning one way or another with who ends up on who comes out on top of this game o um I want to say Ruckers but um that was a really uninspiring uninspiring performance against kenesa State um and with it being uh so fresh uh it’s really like left a bitter taste in my mouth to where I’m just like I don’t understand how this team could ever win a game I think if he ran a Zone against Ruckers I don’t think they would know what to do like genuinely I don’t think they have any idea what to do um and I I think it’s just that simple um I don’t know how they’re going to handle like coming off a loss like this team like straight up um you know I say this a lot about the one it done with them not caring and like for some I’m GNA be wrong I might be wrong on Cooper flag we’ll see in a few months I don’t know if I’m wrong on that yet but I’ll say this about Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper and I I don’t think I’m wrong on this them being at records is a business decision it has nothing to do with basketball it has nothing to do with that program it has nothing to do with py it probably doesn’t even have anything to do with nil it’s how can we get to the NBA without having to care about college basketball like what is the quickest route to where like like if we wake up in the middle of January and don’t want to play anymore who will care the less well it’s Ruckers and um your best two players have that mindset coming off a tough Los um in the manner they lost that game uh I don’t know what that looks like um on paper I’m G to say I I I I think my guts uh is with Ruckers on this one um but J I don’t feel good about either team I was ready to go with Rutgers even though you said your gut is with Rutgers you just kind of sold me to go with Notre Dame um just because like you said these I don’t want it to to implode after one loss and it’s way too early we’re not saying that this ruers season is going to collapse by no means but I think coming off a loss it is going to be really interesting to see how they respond and they let Marram hang around they’ve they’ve avoided some some misses and even what you’re saying about them not playing hard I mean they gave up 44 points in a half to Kena state that is not what Steve pel has been throughout his tenure there he’s always had good defenses they muck it up they make it ugly and yet they there seems to be something missing um out of this roster to do that and on one hand I’m watching like if you watch Notre Dame against Elon they they hemmer shots in the paint they let guards do the guards do whatever elon’s guards did whatever they wanted to against the Irish has Dro coverage and I’m like oh if Elon guards are doing this Dylan Harper is about to score 30 and Dylan Harper might get his 30 in this game but I kind of want to go with Notre Dame gutting it out down the stretch um I do give the coaching advantage to Micah Shrewsberry here over Steve pel um shw is my guy I believe he’s gonna get it together eventually so I feel like this one despite like some potential for high-powered offenses you and13 and I I get to watch Steph Curry a lot this is one of the coldest and 13s I’ve ever seen in my life pass fake into the shot that’s pretty sick just right in front of the coaches and there’s like a 70y old man chest bumping him right now like that like it’s insane uh I completely agree with you though like I think I think I’m in on Notre Dame as well um I you you said it neither one of us is say this season’s going to implode it’s not um but does that mean they’re going to Care coming up a loss to Kennesaw State probably not like both things can be true I don’t think Rucker season’s going to implode I also don’t think like you know the um hungry dogs run faster right Duke loses to Kentucky that’s a Duke team that was not about to go to Arizona and lose a game they didn’t fly across the country for that Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey ain’t got that version of them in college basketball like I I don’t believe in that at all like even watching the game against K ofas State um there’s a few things I dislike that Ace Bailey does he sits away from the players I don’t know if that’s a coaching staff thing but when he’s on the bench he’s in between the assistant coaches maybe that isn’t his decision I don’t like it regardless of whose decision that is um and when he doesn’t have the ball he kind of just stands there doesn’t really do much Dylan Harper is not too far off on that but you can just tell like like the two of them it’s just a business decision and it’s very clear and for that reason I think I’m on NRE Dame as well yep I’m GL in lockstep we’re both in our black Nike
