a brutal loss for the goto State Warriors easily the worst loss of the Season Saturday night in San Antonio they had a 17-point lead ended up losing by 10 tonight they were rolling in the third quarter up 18 with then the Brooklyn Nets going a 27 to6 run and take control of this basketball game and the Warriors lose back-to-back games for the first time all season and have their five-game home winning streak snapped at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets and we’ll try to dive into it and figure out how the Warriors blew this one here on Toyota Warriors postgame live with the Hall of Famer Chris smullen and a couple of NBA champions infestus ail and d right I am Bon and I’ll start with you dright they were cruising in the third quarter next year you know Brooklyn hung in hung in Denis shuder played excellent basketball down the stretch and the Nets got to their 20 M threes and they Outlast The Warriors man what a shocker man what a shocker fellas uh but you got to give Brooklyn Nets a lot of credit those young fellas went out there they competed at a high level uh they didn’t back down from the Warriors and they found a way to get walk out of Chase center with a with a win cam THS son went out the game and I felt like the game changed a lot of guys I probably haven’t even seen like that went out there and they went out and took it to the Warriors made a lot of Threes trusted their three and then on the defensive end they took them out of their out of their game took the Warriors tonight out of their sets this is about protecting home court we said that before the game and the Warriors tonight did not come with that same force that we needed to to really get out of the the slump of the last game this game felt like deja vu all over again two and a half quarters control the pace of the game up 18 points and then let go of the let go of the game by turnovers and it’s like tonight you see it’s only 13 turnovers but giv up 26 points from those 13 turnovers so it means every time they gave away the ball they hit a three something good happened on the other side just could not defend the Brooklyn Nets tonight yeah Bon te mentioned the 20 made threes they made 26 free throws and they had 41 made field goals overall so they really took nothing away and I thought tonight you know coming into the game claxon wasn’t playing Ben Simmon wasn’t playing but shudder came back so I thought the net small lineup really hurt the Warriors individual defense I thought they really attacked him one-on-one they spread the floor got to the paint were kicking out uh and they’re really confident three-point Shooters they want to make they want to take at least half their shots from three that’s exactly what they did of their 47 makes 20 made threes at a high percentage so I thought the one-on-one uh point of attack defense struggled tonight and Johnson didn’t even play in the second half so the Nets were really short-handed and it felt like when the Warriors went to their bench the bench wasn’t able to sustain the lead like they did Saturday night in San Antonio so finding a ways to either stretch your lead or stay stabilize the game without Stephen Draymond on the floor that’s something the Warriors going to have to look to as they move forward because their next eight games fellas OKC Phoenix you get Minnesota three times you get the Houston Rockets and you get Memphis so the schedule’s about to heat up here so the Warriors got to figure this out fairly quickly d right they definitely do they got got to figure out how can they complete a 48-minute game you can’t play one good half and then the second half you kind of take your foot off the gas and I thought that’s what happened tonight the bench came in they played great in the first half they were leading the bench I mean the starters in in points and then in that second half they just you know kind of laps and and let the ball get in the paint way too much Cam Thompson once he went out the game I thought Brooklyn did a much better job with moving to basketball I mean if you look at the the numbers for the Warriors tonight this is this is a win right 31 assists you have have 13 turnovers you have uh shooting 48 46% 4% 48% from the floor I mean all these things you make 18 threes tonight these are all numbers that mean the Warriors win but on the other end they shoot almost 50% from the field and this is the Brooklyn Nets so the Warriors did not take them out of anything that they were running tonight they got really comfortable and when you’re playing against guys like these are guys who are trying to get a deal for themselves these guys are trying to make a name for themselves these are young guys in the NBA so they came out they played really hard this is on the back to back for the Brooklyn Nets as well so you can’t take that away from them the Warriors just got out work tonight yeah we saw last night in Sacramento even though at parts of the game they didn’t play great basketball uh they play hard for for Jordi Fernandez so and as fesus said in derell said there’s a lot of these guys trying to stay in the league they’re hungry uh they play together and I thought the end of the third quarter you know they Warriors had a chance to make some separation they hung around uh got got it almost tied but the the fourth quarter was 41-28 and 28 is not a bad scoring quarter 41’s a huge quarter to have on a backto back in the fourth quarter and I just felt like they tacked the Warriors off the dribble which I you know up until last week or so I thought they’ve done a great job containing the basketball they saw that they can get to the basket with will they saw they were getting open shots and they took him with a lot of confidence I mean you got to give Dennis sha a lot of credit tonight that point guard the the ability to see the floor he’s so fast and nobody would really stay in front of him so anytime they needed a bucket he was always able to either get into the paint to create for others or really create for himself he just 31 points tonight he was spectacular seven from Seven from the field the free throws are something they’re going to talk about on one end you’re missing free throws and on the other end they’re making their free throws and they shot 10 more free throws than the Warriors these are things that that over the course of the game they add up and at least to to an L like this yeah B you mentioned the the efficiency numbers of the Nets uh the free throws uh differential and then points off tournaments was 2612 so you add all that up and it really came in a second half because as you said it felt like the Brooklyn Nets were ready to said you know what we got last night let’s let’s chill and get ready for a last Road game instead they got it close and then they caught fire in in the fourth quarter and just dominated ly pull in the pregame show discuss Stephie Curry and Draymond Green in a need to maybe limit their minutes and keep them preserved for the Long Haul well tonight see Curt went with that tactic there pulls him in the third quarter after he play 7 minutes and 27 seconds in that frame I’m pretty sure Steve Curry is going to have to go back and watch some film and try to get a little more creative on how he’s putting them out there as far as minutes so they’re not going over their uh minutes every night well you’re trying to balance this this thing of you know manage Stephen Curry and Draymond Green’s minutes looking long term because you want them to be fresh later in the season and you’re trying to balance that with also bring up the young guys and the bench making sure that they’re also firing in all cylinders because for you to get to where you want to get to as a team you need your bench you need the whole team to be firing and the bench has been incredible all year long right now trying to dial back in because when you lose a player you lose DeAnthony Melton missing JK the rhythm is off right now that end of the third quarter leading into the fourth quarter that’s two games in a row now where the Warriors lose momentum and it it leads into the fourth and they just keep bleeding and there’s no one thing that can take them out of that thing so for the Warriors is trying to find ways to keep the momentum that they built early in the game yeah and pregame mentioned that because of Cam Thomas and cam Johnson we thought the the perfect match up would be Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan kaminga so without kaminga obviously without the Anthony Melton all of a sudden the depth is being tested and I really thought tonight the net small lineup actually beat the Warriors at their own game spread drive it kick it uh get turnovers they were more active a lot of things we talk about the Warriors doing so well when they win that’s exactly what the Brooklyn Nets did tonight I’m no coach moly I’m no coach oh but are we entering a situation to where we can’t see them without either Draymond or Steph on the floor that one of those guys has to be on the floor at all times you’re asking the wrong person because D Wright said he’ want to be a coach if I was coaching they’d have a problem with me CU my my starters wouldn’t come out till I won the game then my bench goes there it is there it is right there I get to ice and chill before they come out and we look at the stats from tonight Brooklyn they average 19 makes excuse me 15 and a half makes from three last night they made 19 tonight they make 20 again they were the fifth team of fifth rank team when it came to made threes per game and three-point percentage so I think that went up tonight the assist numbers for the warriors were great but the points off turnovers of minus 14 and look at the free throws another six Miss free throws for the gold State Warriors as they lose at home let’s hear from Steve cerr about this presented by BMW uh straight game things flip in the third quarter what do you feel like happened yeah I felt like we lost juice again tonight you know big lead uh late third and can’t close the deal so um just um not not a lot of energy not a lot of force and you know you open up the door for a team in the modern NBA and they might make 23es like Brooklyn did tonight and U you know they they did a great job I give them huge credit shuder was um phenomen Al tonight and um but that was the key stretch um you know they took a timeout um late third we’re up 18 and we got a chance to put them away and they go on an immediate 90 run and um and then it’s a game and then again with the when the way team shoot threes anything’s possible these days a couple games in a row where the second unit has struggled to get its offense going in the second half what do you need out of that unit Why do you think that group’s been struggling a little bit in the second half well we uh we need to execute better and that’s uh you know that’s on on me as a coach so we’ll we’ll get him in here tomorrow for a practice which we need and uh we’ll we’ll um we’ll get back to executing better but 41 points in the fourth is you know giving up uh 41 in the fourth that’s um that’s tough to overcome Steve you’ve talked all season about how you have a much Slimmer margin for error you gave up 26 points off turnovers how what lesson is being learned or not learned as the season goes on with this uh well uh you know it’s um it’s an up and down season every year is up and down and so um you know we’ve um generally done a better job of taking care of the ball for the most part um 13 turnovers is not a uh a bad number but you know they scored every time off of them and so you know there were some bad ones that that really hurt and uh there were kind of automatic conversions and uh and the the the ones that we had really took our momentum away so we just got to keep getting better and what you know you can look at the defense and say that was an issue but what does turnovers do to a defense uh well there’s nothing you can do um if you turn it over it’s there’s going to be an advantage the other way you’re going to give up um something um and tonight a lot of Threes um you know they took 45 of them they also got 30 free throws you know that was the focus coming in to uh the game we knew that their ticket to beat us was um threes and free throws and um and we weren’t able to avoid that step uh steveen you talk about running out of juice is that legs and is that also something you’re still seeing the free throws uh yeah I mean I it’s just you can feel it right I mean you could tell um we had a lot more energy you know a couple weeks ago so maybe it’s just um the schedule um catching up to us a little bit uh but we know we we’ve got to find that that energy again and uh the free throws we got to again um it’s been a problem U all year so guys have to get in there and and shoot them every day and find their Rhythm and early the season Steph is averaging 30 minutes per game just a tick below that tonight do you think about 30 minutes per game for Steph is about where you want him for the season yeah I mean we we usually um pencil him in for for 32 and um we’d like to keep it around that number we were able to give him a good rest in the first half cuz the second unit was playing really well and um you know I don’t I don’t love to to run him the whole fourth quarter I like to have him um you know close with uh with some energy and and so that means um you know if we can give him that last eight minutes generally I feel pretty good about that but um at that point um you know Brooklyn was rolling um and we we couldn’t slow them down all of Steph’s Shots tonight came from three um was that just him taking what the defense gave him and I guess what how would you assess his shot diet um yeah I mean we didn’t get much in the paint tonight um not much cutting um just felt like we were on the perimeter the whole game with all their switching and um he didn’t have much help um terms of the execution and and the force and um so we’ve got to again we got to learn to execute better we’ll we’ll keep working Steve did you me okay uh Steve the momentum that Moses helped you guys get going into halftime it seemed um like you like a good role there Steph passed I think three of his assists uh to Moody was there something that changed when you guys came out of halftime that that you saw or just just they grabbed some some momentum uh I mean not really I mean the game was mostly the same right from the beginning uh they were launching threes and attacking and um you know switching everything and um we uh we found a good Groove there in the second quarter um but um didn’t couldn’t find that same same momentum in the second half Steve did you give any thoughts of resting Draymond and Steph considering the the visible fatigue I guess if we rest them we get fined oh okay uh did you think of of making up an injury so they know uh did have you seen anything to make you think you probably need to do anything with the rotation uh is is something different maybe how teams are playing you that might prompt you to tweak something I mean you don’t want to overreact right I mean two games ago everyone’s feeling great we’re 12 and three we had you know big leads in late third in both games so um we have to address what’s happened these last two games um I don’t think it’s a fatigue thing um I think it’s an execution thing and U so um we’ll have a practice tomorrow U which would be great we haven’t had one in a week so tomorrow will be a much needed practice and um we’ll have another one Friday and so the week this week sets up pretty well for us to actually get a couple of couple of days to to execute and hopefully that’ll help us get back on track uh coach can you just not to add insult to injury or anything but uh the upcoming schedule doesn’t give you guys any favors at all just what what you think about what’s coming next just thinking about Oklahoma City on Wednesday that’s it this the schedule is the schedule I mean it just you don’t I don’t look ahead there’s all kinds of hard games and you know I don’t know a couple weeks ago we had OKC Boston Cleveland staring at us so it is what it is you just you just play we got to play better doesn’t nothing else matters I know last season you know after last season at least you you guys talked about how finishing was important because last season there were a lot of games lost in the in the final minutes uh and early this season there were signs that maybe it had been repaired is it just like you said execution or is is it is there a mentality that that changes or anything as as the game goes on as leads start to slip away it’s again it’s the modern NBA you know it’s um the the threes um the pace um a 20 20-point lead is you know 20 is the old 10 um so I don’t think it’s exclusive to us I see this league wide um no lead is safe so um you know that doesn’t mean we can’t do better we obviously can do better and we’ve got to figure out what that means thanks um I I think this game we got a little too comfortable uh they stayed they stayed aggressive picking up full playing hard and um yeah I think we got a little relaxed when we went up 20 Steve said he doesn’t think that the issue is fatigue he thinks it’s execution do you do you agree with that yeah I think that was part of the time when we when we when we take took our foot off the gas a little bit we w’t executing quicker shots and then they going to get quick buckets and uh things changed fast if you had to predict what you guys would be working on in practice tomorrow what might that be um probably execution going back to training camp a little bit uh filling the spots and then running the offense fluently when a team is missing free throws as a whole is the simple answer legs or is there is there something else that might be going on um I can’t personally say for for guys uh you know but I mean I think it is personal to whatever it is for each guy rather than a group thing um in that first half for you what what was working for you what were you seeing and and the the physicality you’re finishing with what how did you I guess develop that over the course of the offseason what did you work on in that regard in terms of finishing and whatnot yeah uh not running from contact not trying to avoid contact know going in looking for it hitting first and then you on balance for your finish so even when you make contact don’t like pull the ball away just keep going to the goal Steve has been saying all along that you know this is not the Warriors of five six seven eight years ago that were going to the finals every year that this team has a smaller margin of error um tonight Brooklyn got 16 or 26 points off turnovers um is that what they’re doing or is that what you guys are doing from what you can tell they did a good job uh bringing the energy bringing the effort uh short guys um and then just being able to play Pick Up full even when they down 20 like they they had they had a really they put on some really good pressure but we can be a lot more stable to not take a lot of those risks that we took um and just playing Cal making it easy plays easy passes So when you say risk you mean like some of the passing or yeah like uh I threw that behind the back pass it made it kind of but you know something like like that seeing it saying it could happen maybe not and um just making it easy plays instead how do you see BP working through some of his frustration lately uh just playing through it uh whatever it may be just keep playing your game CU that’s part of the NBA that’s part of maturity growing up is just knowing every every day is not going to be the best day every stretch a couple days you might shot might not fall a couple turnovers here and there whatever but but keep being yourself keep playing how you play that’s what he’s been doing I think you had 15 points in your first nine minutes um in the second quarter then you didn’t start the second half you might have came in like late in the third quarter how important is like Rhythm to be able to sustain you know how you’re feeling out there for you um that’s not a luxury I’ve had through my career so I’ve kind of had to figure out how to play whenever whatever happens whatever the opportunity is so um I kind of just deal with whatever whatever it is so uh I don’t necessarily look for outside things as in my plan time rotation whatever it is just when I get the opportunity I take the shots that I get I take the driving lanes that I get and just play just your thoughts about the last two games and the blown leads just what what do you think is the Rhyme or Reason for it um yeah we just got to come out with you know same intensity and same flow that we do in the first and second I don’t know what it is with the third and the fourth is just we get away from you know what God is there but um we’re going to clean it up um just figure out how to keep our flow and keep our Rhythm you know in the second half and I think that’ll help a lot don’t make it too easy on me um Steve mentioned you know it’s been a talking point kind of throughout the season but the the need to improve offensive execution what does that look like how do you how do you improve that and in what situations are you guys not executing practice only way to fix it practice get repon you know know our stuff and in games and situations like this he’s got to execute be locked in and execute it’s hard to fit in a lot of practices in the NBA schedule as as you know um Steve mentioned that this week you’ll get two practices in and and that’s important um how big do you think it is to to get some more practice time in uh yeah like I said um just get our reps and you know know what we doing know what the defense is doing know what they want to do with us sometimes they switch sometimes they blitz so you know know our know our ins and our outs and like I said just get in there and practice when we do practice you know get good quality reps and be locked in and Steve said that you know two weeks ago the energy was much better just team wide um you’re someone who brings a lot of energy personally but why do you think just 17 games into the year that this team might be lacking energy uh we’re probably not lacking energy we just got to maintain main it you know mostly in the second half so whatever we got to do in that halftime to get us back get our energy back going and you know to get our flow to what we do in the first half um you know we got to come out and do it and you know have that energy from the start Gary over here what’s up hey um you guys I mean M Memphis Brooklyn got 26 points off turnovers tonight and you know live ball turnovers are killer we all know that but how do you decide when to take the risk risky pass and when to make the simple pass and how does that play into some of these live ball turnovers um easiest way to answer that is just you know hit singles um be available we know who they want to trap and how they want to trap so we got to do a good job of being available for 30 and Dre you know and BP the guys who have the balls in their hand the most um just be available you know just hit singles and make simple how would you explain what lifeball turnovers do to your attempts to play defense like can tell you right now it’s 26 points and you know it gets back we can’t set up our defense and at that point we’re scrambling around and if we’re scrambling you know somebody’s going to be open at some point they get a good look and you know teams are hitting them so we take away the live turnovers um you know and get back I think I’d like our our chances you know with our set defense har Are there specific things that you have gained with um working with some of the new coaches I mean with Terry and and Coach Stackhouse just on on being more organized I mean that’s the word Steve has used a lot we’re more organized on on offense um it’s I know it’s still a work in progress but Are there specific things no not really I’m just getting in and repping um you know they bringing a few new things but um we’ve been going over them since training camp so uh like I said we just got to lock in and execute like coach been saying on the offensive end um and defensive end you know um that’s pretty much easy as simple just got to lock in nothing crazy nothing that we can’t handle so we just got to be in and be able to uh you know do it and lock in you guys are great 22 assists in the first half just 10 in the second half where the game got out of hand there what’s the key to that whether assist numbers go down the drain they’re on Pace for 44 assists I mean for one they took the Warriors out of their sets they were running back making sure they don’t get out in Fast Break in the second half like they were like they were in the first in the first half at least in the first three quarters in the third the end of the third going into the fourth I just thought the the pace of the game just went all into the Brooklyn Net’s favor I mean the Warriors you got to take the good things from this game the fact that they can dominate three quarters but you got to finish the game out and for the Warriors about focus is about finding ways to execute there in the crunch time now he also did a great job with taking away those easy baskets the Warriors usually get when you throw drop it in the post the split actions they did a good job of getting underneath and you know taking away those back doors and you know the easy dunks we always see the Warriors get this is an NBA game which is hard to explain because the Brooklyn Nets played last night in Sacramento they actually rather play a slower Pace game uh so the second half you would think they may have run out of gas and quite frankly the opposite happened they won the second half 70 to 53 in the fourth quarter they scored 41 points wow so they actually picked up the pace which you think would uh be advantage to the Warriors it went all the Nets uh all the Nets way I just thought their smaller lineup they look bigger y little stronger and as feser said I thought they imposed their their physical will on the Warriors getting into the paint offensive rebounds um I I got to give the Nets a lot of credit I don’t think the warrior the Warriors numbers are really good um but definitely the energy Steve Kerr mentioned it the two games r with a fourth quarter there just wasn’t that energy and uh and Pace to their game so they’ve got to figure out uh the second unit played so well all year so I don’t think it’s just the second unit maybe the combination of players we heard Steve talk about that a lot last year the combination of players we see a lot of um five five guys at a time substituting sometimes that’s a hard way to get your your Rhythm um and and at this part of the Season you know the Warriors had such success you know teams around the league are starting to get a little feel for them to making some minor adjustments now it’s on the Warriors to make their adjustment no doubt about it Keon Johnson came off the bench we’re we had no idea who he was like who is that guy gave him some great minutes off the bench scoring eight points and made all the hustle plays down the stretch but let’s talk about some more positives because in the pregame show we discuss Lindy Waters I third who’s making a six straight start at the two guard spot in place of DeAnthony Mountain at the end of today when he comes to the game his his job is to be part of the offensive lineup to start the game playing alongside Steph Curry him being a shooter that that opens up the offense so I think he got the he got the green light saying go be aggressive go start off the break and whenever he had the chance to to to Really take a shot in transition or whatever he took those shots I love seeing that aggressive side of Lindy Waters they’re going to need that as they try to break out of this this tough spell that they’re in right now I thought he had a good game tonight I thought he played pretty well in San Antonio you know he’s the type of guy I I think all players what you don’t want is uh your impact on a game be exclusively uh related to your shooting percentage you’ve got to do other things on a nightly basis defensively uh setting screens cutting all those things so you’re not just um whether you make shots or not it’s going to be impact on the game well a lot of fans ask about Moses Moody he’s one of the more talked about players who does it start with the first five and Moses Moody came out in the first half and he was on fire you know five outs great offense I love motion but when you need to get some uh shots directly say Moses Moody is hot you want to get him a shot I think you need to call a set so you you don’t go several possessions or actually the entire second half where a guy who’s super hot in the first half at six for seven winds up getting one field goal attempt you really have to Target him uh to make sure he gets some shots up yeah I thought Moses Moody did a great job with just being efficient just like you mentioned about Waters he’s he had his mind made up every time that ball touched his hand he was looking at The Rim he was being aggressive and hopefully now he can continue to build and build and get more minutes down the stretch Moses doing exactly what he’s supposed to do he came into the game six for seven in the first half only got one second one H one shot in the second half and I think if I’m Steve cerr and I’m looking at this game I got to get Moses Moody going in the second half that’s that’s part of what he brings to the table he brings defense he brings offense and his toughness actually was a part of the reason why they got the lead in the first half so Moses Moody has been playing phenomenal basketball and he just needs to keep that going and he’s waiting for his moment he’s waiting for his opportunity there could be a lot of minutes here without De Anthony Melton moving forward but the Warriors going to suffer a heartbreaking loss here at home SGA hey Wednesday night you better keep that fell out the this is a team we’re going to see soon Wednesday night all right so we need to practice Wednesday night they’re coming and they wanted they want revenge for what happened in OKC earlier this season okay all right you ready you got something what’s what’s wrong track shoes listen that’s that’s a young tough team obviously you know SGA I mean that team is is is incredible they attack the rim SGA nobody just like jennis scha tonight it’s hard to keep SGA in front of you he’s very Shifty very quick big strong guard and that plus hartenstein being back the big man back in the middle I think the Warriors going to like guess it’s time to get back to the basic we talked about the fundamentals again but the Warriors have shown that they can beat this team it’s just getting back to that Mojo that they said they had starting the season off SGA big guard man I really like that Oklahoma Thunder team they pretty much a little bit of everything a lot of young talent and they’re going to be tough they’re going to be tough once they all healthy SGA was MVP candidate last year he’s climbing at L this year once again he’s playing at such a high level um this OKC team is for real I love the additions that they made with kusu and honstein when when Czech gets back um but SGA makes everything happen I think they get great team chemistry as well I think the style of play and look you can have great strategy and great chemistry and all and the Good Vibes and everything but the NBA a lot of times that come comes down to matchups we have a lot of teams that spread the floor and they go at plays one-on-one off the dribble so if you don’t have the ability to physically match up you’re going to have problems uh and that’s what OKC does at every they’re positionally hu big at every POS every uh guards forwards they got great size they got great length they got skill uh and and they’re all in the prime of their careers this is a young team with experience so I I think this this team is here and they’re for Real uh and they’re a legit Championship contender in my mind in my mind this starts a eight game Gauntlet for the go to State Warriors as well OKC Phoenix with Kevin Durant and Bradley Bill back they have Minnesota three times Memphis Indiana Houston who they almost blew a 31-point lead to so the schedule will heat up starting on Wednesday gets OKC but I think what FES has just said that’s what made me think about the matchups fundamentally you have to carve out the matchup you have and win that matchup within the team concept because What teams do once they feel they have an advantage they going to go at you all night long tonight ironically was It was kind of the role plays for for uh for Brooklyn but what they did was they spread the Warriors out and attacked them one-on-one and made plays gp2 getting up man he looks healthy that’s the one thing with gp2 d right he is healthy this season yeah that’s the that’s the best thing to have GP healthy because you know he can pick up 94 feet he can be very disruptive on defense and those guys that you know penetrate the paint things like that he can you know take that challenge so it’s good to see him back out there addition to to him playing defense and we know we love seeing gp2 play defense on the best ball handler on the other team tonight he was getting Above the Rim like he was getting tip dunks he was getting offensive rebounds I mean he will find ways to get make an imprint on the game and that’s why you love GP you love the guy who can who’s Scrappy who’s going to get out there get down on the floor when you need to get a loose ball those all things that you need from a player like gp2 he’ll find ways to make an impact played a really good game tonight I loveed his energy he gives great effort every night um but we talked pregame there’s several players on the Warriors you know under 70% from the free throw line gp2 with the impact that he’s having I still want him because I talked about Jonathan kaminga not shooting well from the free throw line but maintaining his aggression because you need him to attack the rim he’s one of the players that can get to the he’s got the most free throws from the Warriors know before tonight gp2 that open three-point shot he’s more than capable of knocking it down I want him to maintain his confidence and continue to shoot those open space all it takes his impact to a whole different level and we seen him hit that question he can do it just Lev maintain when it’s open knock it down keep shooting it St during pregame today you warmed up in the practice facility rather than the main floor was there any particular reason behind that uh yeah getting some maintenance work that ran a little long and um had enough time down there it’s a nice part of the setup so nothing really to speak on just a little different routine this this uh this game this was the second straight game with a big blown second half lead uh what would you say the common threads between tonight and Saturday night are sustaining our effort and energy especially on the defensive end and we have to find a way to keep our composure if teams are hitting shots like this is the league and there’s Talent everywhere um and you got to expect there going to be some runs you would hope at home you’d be able to kind of write the ship a little quicker like you know as opposed to the road uh experience with San Antonio but it’s the same Dynamic where you have a big lead they make a run to end the quarter and momentum starts to shift and we don’t have an answer to either get enough stops or to find organization on offense to to get good shots so it’s a tough feeling when you feel like you’ve done enough to separate yourself and you uh just see the lead kind of dwindle and and then it’s just game of you know makes or misses down the stretch the last 6 minutes and we can’t put ourselves in that situation when we play well enough uh throughout the rest of the game Steph you you use the word organization and that’s a word that Steve has has used a lot um in terms of being encouraged that the offense is is more organized have you seen some real strides um you know and things that that maybe some of the new coaches brought in that that have been working overall yeah I think on the whole we have you got look at the bright spots at the start of our season we you know these last two games have kind of left a sour taste for sure but we’ve given ourselves a little bit of cushion with a renewed kind of mindset on how we’re trying to create offense no matter who’s out there on the floor you know we’re still playing 12 guys and you have to be able to adjust no matter who what the combinations are so offensively moving the ball everybody being involved as a screener as a passer as a dribbler I think we can be a little bit more intentional about what type of shots we might want to create with certain lineups and that’s part of the growth of the team and we all have to be committed to making those adjustments but on the whole like we’re we’re playing you know pretty solid for the most part there is another level to get to and that’ll kind of depend or decide you know what the fatea this team is you guys have this season overall been better at controlling the ball maintaining the ball taking care of the ball but there’s been a few games like tonight they got 26 points off turnovers you talked about the defense how challenging is it to play great defense when the ball is going the other way with live ball turnovers very interesting we had the same amount of turnovers but they got 14 more points so it is maybe the type being able to turn that convert those into points usually when you have 12 turnovers for us we’re really happy about it but for whatever reason to your question they were able to capitalize off that more often than not so yeah that’s part of the momentum too when things started going south you give them free points especially an athletic team like they are that trying to play fast and playing Five small guys out there so got to be more conscious of the type and the amount I guess how how hard is it to play deep to defend that it’s impossible to defend it for sure and that can decide a game we won The Possession game we got 10 more shots than they did almost the same amount of Threes obviously they got 15 more free throw makes but at 14 points on easy buckets or easy possessions whether it’s you them knocking down transition threes or get into the basket there’s no defense for that uh Steph I was wondering um you faced STS for so many years what’s it like having him as your assistant and what have you learned about him and how is He adjusted to you and and this team as well yeah we obviously know each other very well over the course of the years he’s a great coach he’s um you know what he did in Portland was sustaining you know that level for as long as he did and I know last year didn’t work out but for him to come in and give us a kind of Renewed Energy on that end the floor there’s certain sets that they ran in Portland that have influenced our offense a little bit doesn’t look the same but there’s kind of principles around you know moving the ball moving bodies and he obviously respects what we’ve created here and what we’ve built but it’s come in with sense of humility and understanding like we’re just trying to you know add a few wrinkles that can make us a little bit more efficient than we were the last couple years um but the part of like being able to adjust as the season go on we’re going to rely on his his knowledge and wisdom as much as uh anybody to help us one more Ste Sten Stephen mentioned earli in the season that he called a play He said oh I got a play for you guys that um I think it was something I think it was um that flip had run and he was like even though we had never practice it he he ran it and it worked for you in particular I think you got to sore off that do you remember that and was that weird running a play that you had never worked on before I don’t remember the exact play but you’re sh you know you should be able to when they draw out plays and timeouts we call them OB atos you should be able to they’re not too comp Lex you should be able to you know lock in on where you’re supposed to be the timing and what what shot you’re trying to look for and the different options um that’s where coaches can kind of experiment a little bit and and there’s no scouting that cuz you know plays that you haven’t run before so it it I don’t know exactly what play it was but that’s that’s more common than you might think um step back to kind of what Monty was asking earlier when when you guys were able to still try to keep up with the uh the Nets there they kept making shots and you guys weren’t able to quite finish was it just the fact that they were just able to execute better better more confidence in their shots in the fourth two is a combination of I mean they they’re playing they have guys that have injured and usually when that happens you have guys that coming in you can go either way you can be Shell Shocked just with the stage or you can just play free just because it’s your opportunity and they played that way I think we gave them too much freedom in the first quarter where they got up they got up 19 18 threes in the first quarter and we made a couple adjustments so that rate slowed down but guys got the ball in their hands they got a little comfortable there’s a sense that that can you know translate to more confidence down the stretch because you’ve seen a couple go up but they were trying to play five out driving Lanes kick out and yeah I mean a couple don’t go in we’re fine a transition it could be a different game but we gave them too much life and too much belief and then I don’t care who you throw out there it’s a recipe for disaster couple practices this week what do you want to get out of those just how important is it to be able to have a couple practices in one week given how little practice time there is during the season most of it is I mean the coaches will watch film while his players watch film and then you come up with some of the patterns that are showing themselves whether it’s with certain combinations of guys what type of shots we’re trying to create if there’s a consistent pattern where we’re getting breakdowns on defense I think tonight it was um trusting that there’s help behind drives not overh helping and then kicking out the shooters we got to work on our communication and again the trust of how a fiveman defense is supposed to run but any practice window you have or any practice session it’s it usually builds that connection that you need um especially after a couple losses cuz we all got to be in this together like nobody should run for the hills or you know press a panic button practice definitely helps keep everybody together because we got to talk out some stuff
