good afternoon and welcome to the hibs Observer postmatch briefing tactical analysis throwing a lot of things into today’s video um glad to see him joined as always by Craig nisbit have a look back at Saturday’s 4-1 defeat by dunde at Den’s Park Craig it was a bit of a miserable evening in the city of discover wasn’t it yeah it started with like a fair bit of Promise actually um but then yeah just con shooting herself in the foot capitulation um and then just to top it off just another last minute goal just to rub salt on the Wind so I mean it had everything really it did um we’ll be looking back at how had set up for the game how the red card impacted their performance and uh obviously the four goals conceded and goal scored by Nikki Carden that did get everyone thinking that maybe had had cracked it after um think seven games without a win that has however extended to eight games without a win and back in Action again very quickly tomorrow night when abine come visiting Easter Road um probably not the game you would want to follow a a 41 defeat at Dundee but um you know players were sent today uh in the press conference and they were saying after the game you know you want the games coming thick and fast you can try and move on from try and move on from the previous game and and do something about it um we’ll wait and see what Tuesday evening has in hold has has in store something make it offer three points would be a good prize um you know um but anyway let’s let’s move on to Saturday’s game and I mean it’s one of those things where I feel like there’s not an awful lot to talk about from a tactical point of view which sounds strange because 12 minutes in it was sort of you know the of the original plan of being scrapped um just going to throw up the throw up the team graphic here we can talk about that in a second um I mean I think definitely an argument for making changes after the S miring game you’ve obviously got the international breaks take into consideration and I think everyone who being an international Duty apart from Rocky bidi was actually on the bench um which was a bit of a a change from the last game that came after an international break which was coincidentally also in dunde it was the 3-2 defeat at padise where a few players who had actually been you know doing a lot of traveling were on the starting lineup so you know trying to mix up a were you surprised by some of the Personnel in that lineup yes and no I think you’re right with International Duty and the fact it’s you know Australia Canada it’s long travels isn’t it you know it’s not like players hopping across to Europe and back so I sort of understand that um obviously e petta being out um was a real blow and then finding out obviously that he’s he’s got a thigh in and he’ll be out for a number of weeks was really really disappointing to see that again Josh Campbell coming in from nowhere um you know quite a surprise considering he’s he’s not been in in too many squads or or had any game time recently and but I suppose with you know if hot’s um been traveling and and things like that and H you know they wanted to R Quan for whatever reason and and obviously molotnikov has been playing a lot in the youth team so potentially there was a I thought behind that but again like we’ve spoke about before here it just sort of worries me when players are in and then cast out for a little while and then they’re thrown back in um the the one thing I did quite like it was it obviously good to see Ellie start again and and I liked the idea even though we only got sort of 12 minutes off it off Nikki Caden and Chris Caden on the wings because I think me and Liam had spoke about um on one of the previous podcasts and I think he had mentioned it with Matty last Thursday that you know Miller and Bo it just for whatever reason it doesn’t click it just doesn’t it just don’t seem to to be together and it doesn’t really work out on that side and I I thought the idea of the cadin together not because they’re Brothers but because Nikki’s Left sided and would naturally want to drift inside the pitch and Chris to overlap it sort of gave us a bit of balance on both sides because Ellie would like to drift in Oba would overlap so I was kind of like oh that’s actually quite a nice we tweak that I quite like that um and obviously it pay dividends when we get the goal and obviously kurich starting through the middle so um yeah not too many surprises in there probably apart from from Campbell uhuh I mean I suppose the the sort of real question you touched on it there about players coming in from the cold I mean never mind never mind Campbell being on the bench and coming off at you know late in games he’s not been I think in the last few squads so it was very much you know it was a kind of a bit of a surprise inclusion um and I think the difficult thing for at the moment is trying to work out whether it’s a case of the coaching staff trying different things to see what’ll work to try and get hims out of this funk this sort of windless run or whether like even sort of November going in December is it just the case that he still doesn’t know his best team because I mean both both scenarios aren’t ideal but one of them is obviously I think more problematic than the other um yeah I think like the Midfield three is has been a real issue and um pretty much most combinations that have that have been played haven’t really worked you know there’s there’s been I think we had that half against dundy United where Quan triantis and N worked it just it just clipped for one half and then then it hasn’t so I think Campbell has got a lot of energy he’s he’s a willing Runner he’ll running behind he is useful in that role and and especially if you are going to go a bit longer into kurich you know especially maybe with like e patoa being out and Rocky coming in and you know you know in terms of playing out from the back might be a bit different you know worries with a goalkeeper as we saw that if they are going to be a bit more direct then you probably do need a a sort of player playing off C it’s getting close to them to try and get the second ball but it’s just the fact that when I think when when you’re a player if you’re if you’re in and then you’re out and then you’re being told you’re being protected and and I just think it it I just don’t think it sends the right message really and I think part of it is they’re not quite sure of the the starting 11 I think in melnikov’s case it’s just a bit of a protection thing because he’s a young guy and a young player and they want to make sure he’s not overused and and things like that for Campbell it’s maybe also a little bit of protection as as well because he obviously sometimes gets the brunt of the fans frustrations um and you can tell when he plays he’s somebody that like deeply cares and wants to do well but I just think it gets you into these positions like this where everybody last a couple weeks ago was going right L came on made a a real impact and of course his cavat with the fact that the game was maybe gone at that point but he came on made a little difference got the ball moving and then he’s still on the bench but Campbell comes in that’s where I think we’re just it’s so disjointed that the minute that um yeah I think that’s maybe probably where a lot of frustration Lies when the team comes out on social media and the fans start to just sort of question it yeah I think we can probably set aside a bit of time at the end of this um to just discuss like how he might line up for tomorrow’s game because obviously Jordan is suspended uh Marvin E potato remains sidelined as well and there’s obviously big questions about whether he changes his goalkeeper and weather supposed he changes formation as well um so we can we can come on to that next going to move on to move on to the race chart from Saturday’s game I mean this it it does look like it looks like something we’ve seen time and time again um from HBS this season yeah I mean it’s so difficult because obviously the red card comes in very early on in the game and um you know there a couple of bits of life I suppose towards um you know in the second half where I think Dundee you know 3-1 up you get to 60 65 you probably naturally drop off you bring on your substitutes you know and and we were trying to make things work a little bit and that’s what gray did you know obviously we’ll get to the red card but he tried to stay relatively attacking by sort of going like a a sort of it was almost like a 432 like he tried to leave ear up top with evich and just have the Midfield three kind of trying to cover the the space across the middle of the pitch and in the wide areas um but I suppose that the big bit there is once the it’s the it’s the glow goals the 1-1 and the 2-1 they come in such quick succession after the red card um and and I think at that point you know I was really worried for us once we got it back together I was thinking if you get to halftime at 21 you can maybe go in reorganize um get yourself out and then just sort of sit deep and see if you can hit people on the counter and maybe catch them out but that the third goal was the killer that that that’s what sunk the game and there was just no way we were coming back from that so it’s no real surprise um looking at that yeah and we’ll obviously touch on the on all the goals including the third goal uh coming up but just included the passing networks here um so this is this is basically the hibs first half versus the second half um and I think normally what stats bomb does is it provides sort of passing networks where players or combinations of players sorry have passed the ball a minimum of four times between them I actually had to reduce that to three to get any sort of lines uh on the um like for the HPS team which thinks so you know it speaks volumes um you can see there that um you know the passing most of the passing seems to have come from uh leis Miller going into Ellie Yuan by the looks of it and Josh Campbell to ellan as well in the second half there’s not really an awful lot in the first half which I think probably is probably is um kind of reflects what we saw where you know it’s like it’s obviously it’s a good start but Jord get sent off after 12 minutes and from then on it’s you know it was just kind of Al on the as as hibs I mean d David Gray did say this in his his press conference that you know the reason for maybe not making changes straight away was to kind of wait and see how dunde would react to this ending off and you know as we’ve discussed it was probably a little bit you know too little too late when he he made the changes after the second goal but I mean that’s you know we’ve seen we’ve seen some passing networks even from other games the hibs have lost and you know there’s been there’s been a bit more to be sort of positive about than there is here isn’t there yeah I mean I think if if Oba stays on and and theame goes differently I think you’d probably see quite a lot um I would imagine quite a lot of combinations between him and Yan that that was looking pretty good in that first opening period they were getting on the ball quite a lot and H we were getting you know down Dundee’s right and and on our left I think we were getting some quite good success and even on the right hand side as well I thought you know Caden was like Chris Caden sorry was kind of coming into it we were getting quite high up we were switching the play and and looking to get balls into the box but yeah I mean we’ll probably discuss it when it comes to the red card I sort of felt um I think I probably would have changed things straight away I thought I thought he was going to do that um I’m not quite sure the benefit we got from obviously I mean can see then obviously but the benefit we got from leaving the players on I didn’t quite understand the rationale behind the subs really apart from you know Miller for Caden but um yeah and then and after that when you’re especially when you’re you know 3-1 down in the second half I mean I think yeah I thought Miller came on and and did all right you know certainly was he was able to carry the ball forward and link up a little bit and I thought Yuan was kind of bright You know despite the fact that it was it was quite a nothing sort of second half um but yeah it was yeah we never we never I don’t think we got organized in the right fashion after the sending off and and that led to the downfall I think yeah and you can you can see here this is done D in the first half compared to hibs in the first half I mean it’s I don’t I don’t even really think we need to talk about this too much I me you can see obviously the you know the bigger the circles um you know the more passes they’re involved in the sort of like you know when you get along to the sort of yellow orange red uh color spectrum that’s you know the players who their on ball value is is basically you know as higher than their teammates would suggest they using the ball well no surprise I think for dunde that it’s Finley Robertson n Cameron and and Josh Mulligan who are sort of shown up best for them um and I think you can tell as well just looking at hibs mean 12 minutes Jord Abita is you know one of the best users of the ball him and Chris Caden and you know beyond that there’s not really an awful lot um not really an a a lot going on there second half you can see a little bit more um in terms of in terms of the passing but I mean you know again the comparisons there it’s clear to see the impact that Josh Mulligan had on that right side um see ly Cameron there with a big circle Juan pralis as well and yeah I mean you know small circles on the hip side of things yeah and and I think to to credit to D like they started off a little bit shaky and they sort of held the ground they had to they were obviously forced into a change in the first half but you know once we went down to to 10 men um you know it was easy for them with with their setup having the wing backs and stuff to just you know move the ball wide um and and just kind of have us sort of chasing shadows and because we then went to try and play that kind of 432 and leave ear up top it meant you know they were getting down both sides like fairly comfortably and so it’s no surprised that the sort of size and the color of the circles there um so positive start hims get a goal inside the opening uh first two minutes which we could just about see from the press all the the mist and the fog that was going around um but it was it was a well worked move it was I mean we’ve seen we’ve seen HS do this quite a lot this um you know working on the left hand side and getting the ball into the box more often than not it doesn’t result in a goal but this this worked quite well yeah I mean what I quite liked about it is that you can see I’ve got um Nikki Caden kind of highlighted on the other side you can just about make out Chris Caden on the The Far Side but the the runner I’ve highlighted there is actually triantis who um you know sort of makes a forward run into that space um youve obviously got Campbell and and kurich in the middle and we’ll beat us further up as we’ll see in the next image but that’s what you know if you’re in that if we’re playing in that sort of Midfield H with like the trio and and obviously Campbell’s going to go a bit higher there’s no harm in oneoff triantis or new making a forward run and actually what it just does is it just occupies an extra dundy player um which means they can’t you know close down the space um you know to try and stop the cross and things like that so it was a nice bit of movement from Triant obviously Yuan goes One V one against them Sila and goes past them and then I think in the next slide um he obviously you know it’s perfect time and he sort of just Waits just up until that last minute you can see triantis is just in shot there on the the right hand side that’s just keeping the sort of Right Center back from you know overc committing to to to block the space and what Ellie does well as well is he sort of just runs forward he makes another run in behind and it’s something that they seem like small things those little sacrifice runs um but there’s something that for for a team team where we are just now we absolutely have to do because you know we don’t quite have the players to break teams down in that final area we need other guys making runs to just disrupt things a little bit um and as the ball works way to to OB you know we’ve seen him do this often quite often this season um I don’t know if if he picked him out um I’d like to give him the credit to say that he did but again because Campbell and this is I know Campbell sort of divides opinion but he does get himself in and around the box that’s him and kurich in the middle and it just keeps a couple of dundy players occupied and obviously OB whips it in and I have to say it’s it’s pure from dundy I mean they’ll be well they won’t be annoyed because they won but for the goal it’s you know Nikki Kaden pretty much has no nobody pressing him or marking him but it’s a very very good finish because I think that’s a really difficult chance to take with it bouncing in just to get your body over that get the strike clean and get into the bottom corner um yeah it was a fantastic start yeah I think something hibs hav been great at um is sort of you know starting quickly I mean I think we saw um I can’t remember when it was we put the piece out but it was we did do a piece which was essentially saying that the earliest hibs had scored was the 43rd minute of a game and then I think they they improved on that and um yeah I think they just got a complete memory block of who it was whoever scored 29 minutes I think in one game um this is it they all they all start to like blend into one after a while but you know what I think it’s you know if we are sort of trying to extract like you know any positives that we can it was you know hibs did make a really good start to the game it was a fast start kind of caught dundy cold a little bit which you know I think was was probably part of the intention um we’ll move on to the the next s here because there was even after the goal and before the siging off was there was quite a lot of good buildup play from hibs as I think you’ve highlighted here yeah there was we we we created a couple of decent decent chances um you know there’s one with kovich at the the sort of back post um coming in and we just moved the ball really well this one actually comes from uh it’s like a floated ball forward from aora um kich who have who’s kind of highlighted with the Halo there wins it really well pops it off to triantis um and we just again straight away you can see ‘s really sort of inverted he’s come inside the pitch um which is which is useful because the you know I’ve probably banged on enough in these videos like switching plays really important it can be difficult sometimes to hit a 40 50 yard switch so actually if you have a player that’s going to drift in and come a bit closer here like Ellie does it can be more useful if you go into the next um the next clip once Ellie gets on the ball um it’s quite clear that Oba you know straight away is just going to go on the overlap um to get in behind them and it was just like quite a nice little p P like a nice little pattern of play that we had um and again we get lots of nice Runners forward into the box and into the area um and you know at that point in the game we were know Ellie was he was really picking up that space in between the sort of wing back and the the right center backs and just causing dunde just a little bit of trouble in there um which obviously was quite positive but quickly evaporated about five or so minutes later so yeah you can see him there he gets the ball you know he’s obvously he’s a great one V one dribbler isn’t he we know that’s his strength he’s space to attack because he’s got OB on the overlap so worst position to be in if you’re a Defender um having two players run at you with that space and then I think if you go into the next one as we get to the sort of final part of the pitch it’s a the same again you know he gets to this area um he works at way TOA and again we get some numbers into the box so it was just good that we were Ellie was getting the ball and he was confident he was carrying it Forward he was committing players um you know it was sort of like the most sharpest I thought he looked for a while um and you know we all going down the leftand side is you know what we’ve done for quite a lot of the season um but it was working really well yeah and then obviously as we’re about to discuss uh all that changed very dramatically on 12th minute Mark there’s not really an awful lot to debate here is there I mean you know we could we could go down the usual route of saying five or six years ago this not been a straight red but in this day and age I think I mean Jo y said this after the game very similar to his sending off against uh against D United OB that was a second yellow but I mean David Gray had no complaints it’s it’s difficult to kind of make a make a make a sort of case here for a Bea isn’t it yeah and it’s it’s similar to nles like you said it’s just this like he controls the ball there’s nothing really around him it’s just a very bad first touch and and like gray highlighted I think today just um maybe in the press conference just saying how there’s then this like overe eagerness to correct mistakes instantly and yeah he flies in here and I think it’s actually because his heel you can see like the where he’s making contact with the ball there it’s like his heel is quite high up on the ball and what it leads to is ball kind of like spins under s’s foot and out the other side like so now the ball’s disappeared there but it’s not a magic trick it’s it’s kind of between s’s legs here and because he’s went he’s almost just went over the top of the ball because his heel and then obviously he’s just planted one like right on him there so yeah it’s it’s you know there was I suppose there was no malice in it in terms of how he’s going but you can see no matter I know when you freeze frame stuff it looks it looks worse than it is but you can see there and even the way s’s foots planted like he’s really lucky to get out of that without having a really bad injury um so yeah straight red no doubts about it yeah I think it’s it’s it’s probably what we’ve seen you I don’t really think any of the red cards have HS have had this season have been you know it’s not it’s not really the result of just like a a bad foul it is almost sort of like you know with triantis against mother well it was almost like a desperation to again make up for a bad first touch new will again very similar and you know you’re the captain things aren’t going well you want to try and you know you want to try and make things happen same for a beta the kage one obviously is a bit of a a bit of a sort of separate one because um you know because of the sort of circumstances surrounding that but you know it’s just it does feel like one of those one of those situations because of the sort of the predicament thats find themselves in you know red cards like this you know they’re going to happen because there almost is this sort of almost I suppose like it’s you know they Mis control and there there’s like an alarm that you know something’s going to happen that’s going to give away a goal um and obviously as you say there there is this OV egist to try and sort of you know make up for the mistake to recover whereas if he’ actually sort of held off and you know just sort of if it was sort of a simple foul or you know something like a little less a little less of over the top then you know he maybe only gets a yellow card and the same outcome that he’s he’s stopped on D from attacking but you know he still have have 12 men on the pitch 11 men on the pitch even God can’t count um that would be helpful it would yeah well you know and also you know there was that he gave away a penalty I think earlier on this season it was kind of like a a kind of clumsy game Clumsy F so there is a there is an undercurrent of like clumsiness and and it is this that thing and like you say I think it’s when things are going against you and especially you’re conceding goals lat on and and all this kind of stuff around you like it probably does play on The Players minds and listen he’s not went out there to hurt the guy and he’s not went out to to do this um it’s just that Split Second decision making and unfortunately for us at the minute it’s just it’s leading to these like really severe results for us as well which you know again that opening 10 minutes or so we were looking we were looking really great and listen the game you know the game completely changed at that point um and yeah it was just really really unfortunate for him yeah and in terms of the game changing didn’t take too long before uh d d were on level terms from uh well Jord McGee John McGee’s finish um from uh cross from the left we’ll have a look at it here um we’ve seen hibs lose this type of goal so many times this season haven’t we yeah and I suppose just before I go into the goal I think it’s like worth highlighting that well obviously there was the the la Kies um sort of thing which um we not get too much into but I think at that point the only disappointment there was I really felt the players needed to be over with David Gray they needed to be in together huddled around talking stuff just delaying things wasting a little bit of time um and and and that comes from the sideline it comes from the captain on the pitch it just comes from getting themselves organized um and and it’s funny because at the time I sort of thought right it would make sense now to probably take off um I thought maybe I thought maybe Yan to a certain extent but maybe Campbell yeah and certainly get aale on in in some fashion early because Nikki Kaden isn’t a left back um and I would have thought right if you get aale on you maybe keep niiki CAD in left you put ell on to the the right hand side you’ve got tranis and new in the middle kurich up front you set two Banks of four and you just hope that you can you know see it out so I thought it was strange to to kind of go Niki Cad and at left back Josh Campbell to sort of like this left Midfield role and you know ear in that position I mean I’ve kind of highlighted him here listen he’s not um he’s not like at fault for this or anything like that but it’s just this recognition of that position that the ball gets switched Chris Caden again takes a poor touch he tries to clear it it’s like a half clearance half Touch goes straight to the Dundee player and you know Yan kind of makes the move to go and then he sort of stops and then obviously Caden gets into this one V one where he gets you know um he gets beat down the touch line but because we’re sort of down a player in the middle then there’s no kind of real cover to stop the ball coming in and even when we’ve got 11 men on the pitch we tend to lose we tend to lose goals like this and um whether it’s been Miller or it’s been CAD in this season it’s unfortunately being a theme that’s down down our right hand side that that tends to happen so yeah Caden gets beat 1 V one which listen that that can happen the middle part here I’ve highlighted you know that’s um triantis and there and if you want to talk about another type of thing that happens it’s midfielders not tracking Runners and yeah again something that’s you know this has happened before and it’s been it’s been qu a couple of times which we’ve highlighted and this time it’s triantis and you know I don’t think there’s an excuse really for that um even being down to to 10 men you know there’s a guy running in the Midfield just go with them and if it’s not your man or it’s not what you’ve just discussed then deal with it and then you know bollock at the corner or whatever and I think it goes back to what we’re seeing on the pitch which it doesn’t look like people are taking responsibility and holding people account and you actually can see I mean it’s hard to see the um the ball on the other side but you know McGee’s actually quite far out here and there’s actually a couple more touches before the ball actually goes in so and triantis is level and again you can see that’s just as the ball is being crossed triantis at that point realizes but it’s too late and and I have to say got to give credit to Jordan McGee it’s a it’s a pretty good finish you know he lets the ball come across opens it up it’s it’s a really smart finish um but just a goal that even going down to 10 men is is probably fairly avoidable if you just if you just do the basics in that position yeah um so that was done these equalizer there I mean they threatened they threatened again I think they hit the hit the woodwork um a couple of times before they got or second but again again it’s a you know the first goal as you say like you know it’s it’s fair enough the right back get one-on-one midfielders don’t cover themselves in glory but you know the second goal it’s it’s another goal lost from a set piece and it’s eminently avoidable I think yeah I mean again when you go down to to 10 um and I would imagine Oba being sort of one of the taller players um you know there’s probably he would have a responsibility at the corners and and things like that I don’t know you know normally kurich sort of zonally kind of goes to the front the front post um certainly when he plays that’s what he normally does and Oba probably picks up so a it just picking up here so I don’t know if there was a a and that’s where it goes back to you know did the players know exactly what to do if you go down to 10 how you organize you know things that have changed that you’ve have you had in your plans but yeah it’s quite an easy one like Portales just runs off um he kind of runs out the the sort of space in between BK and and Rocky actually and runs into that front post area um and he gets a a pretty decent flick on um and again for tri I mean it’s a second second time he’s he’s actually in not a bad position triantis he actually kind of gets himself in front and he actually wins the ball obviously because it goes in the back or net but he just you can see here like he his head’s just above the crossbar there just above Rocky shirt he’s looking at the ball here and then he sort of like turns his head away and it actually just sort of comes off the side of his head to go into the back of the goals you can see there he’s and I don’t know I don’t know if the touches put him off if he I don’t quite know what’s happened in that moment but then yeah it just hits him in the side of the head there and just goes into the back of the net and you know for him you know’s I think he’s really struggled since he’s come back he’s had some good moments in the middle of the park but I think defensively um and if he’s got aspirations to play that sort of holding midfielder role at a high level then this side of his game and what we just seen in the previous Clips just has to improve yeah I think it’s it’s maybe worth pointing out that obviously this was before changes were made so this you know this was still very much when you know there there’s maybe as you pointed out the players haven’t gone over the to the touch line so there is maybe a a lack of sort of understanding or comprehension of what they’re supposed to do and you know we were talking about you know K which where he usually stations himself for set pieces and he’s in a different spot and it just it almost feels a bit like a perfect storm um I mean we know you know hibs have obviously ConEd from set pieces already this season um and it is I suppose it is alarming the the kind of regular with which teams are you know managing to get a lot of Joy from set pieces yeah and listen they might have they might have like you know couple players might have ran over and got some instructions and and passed on so like I’m not saying that the coaching staff didn’t pass anything on but yeah you just sort of want to I think as a fan on the you know you want to see the players going around rallying around and and getting shown things and told things and and people being really clear on on what they’re doing and um yeah especially like I say losing you know losing a losing a player is never good but you know if you lose if kavich gets sent off there in the first 10 minutes then you’re kind of going okay well we’re two Banks of four leave La up front for a bit nice and simple we’ll keep things as they are if it’s if it’s like when it’s a fullback or it’s a Defender then there does have to be some conversations and going right hold on these guys probably do have a bit more defensive responsibilities at um you know goal kicks for playing out for set pieces and things like that and and obviously OB as a huge of how we play forward so it just it seemed a bit odd to me there that we we hadn’t done it and obviously we make changes um you know just after this goal which I don’t know what your thoughts were um when they happened but I suppose um it felt a bit like you know shutting the stable door once the horse had bolted I think I mean I think I I maybe tweeted at the time when a be was sent off it looked like iale was going to come on straight away and like you sort of mentioned earlier I just thought it’s you know the the sort of obvious thing for me would be to take off a midfielder and you know essentially put aale to left back and kind of go 441 um you know maybe Ellie on the left kich up top and you know that way you still got because I thought you know Nikki Carden obviously seems to be one of the main goal threats at the moment two goals in two games um you know he is quite direct as you were saying he’s got that he sort of linked up quite well with with Chris Carden on um on Saturday has that cutting inside and you know I think there’s a lot of there’s a lot of promise there for that sort of um that combination on the right side so I can kind of understand bringing Le Miller on like that you know I mean he’s he’s got that height and you know looking at dundy big team as you point out a be going off there’s a little less height in the hips team so that I could I could kind of understand that but I wasn’t I wasn’t really convinced by by Nikki Kad g off as well I just thought you know I don’t I don’t know if that was that was sort of influenced by the fact they’ gone it 21 or you know whether it was something else I think there was maybe some suggestion he might have been managing a wi injury or something um but I just I just thought there were I was a bit surprised that it was a double change and I was a bit surprised that um you know that CAD went off Nikki CAD went off um as well yeah because I think for Nikki Caden as well it’s if you are going to be in those if you are going to be in two Banks of four and just like soaking up pressure and and and trying to play forward then you’re wanting to buy fouls you’re wanting to win fouls and if you’re in the final you want him on the ball for free kicks for corners for set you know any kind of set pieces that you might get so I just sort of felt when he went off and although it was quite interesting to see us sort of try and play with two up top and and try and keep a link um again that was probably kind of easier to do when the game had was gone because dundy were kind of like well we can just sort of keep the ball now we won’t get anything silly um I just think it would have been interesting to see if we had just done a quick change Campbell off fire D on you to the right Nikki there you know maybe the first goal still happens with Chris Caden and then maybe maybe Greg was actually you know what I’m going to get Miller on and that goes off but you might just have a different setup at the corner and you just might be able to to get something something out of that game or just you know keep at least get into halftime maybe a draw or something along those lines so yeah I thought it was a bit of a strange one as well but again I mean won’t spend too long on this because you know we could do we could probably do an entirely different show on this but I mean there have been times this season where the substitutions have seemed a little strange like obviously you know there could be many reasons for making subs if players are manager managing injuries or knocks that we don’t know about if you know there’s if players are tiring that sort of thing like obviously I get that there have been sort of some instances where the substitutions have seemed a little strange especially if there’s been you know maybe like a more obvious change to you know to us as sort of casual observers almost there seems to be like a more obvious switch and it’s it’s quite often not made so I don’t know whether that comes into it whether it’s a little bit um you know a little bit sort of um you know kind of like David Gray’s I don’t want to say in experience I mean he’s obviously spent a long time as a coach with um you know the various managers at Easter Road and now he’s managing his own right but it is it is different and I just wonder whether you know he’s guilty of maybe overthinking things or you know I suppose just you know situations like this when you’re you’re struggling like hibs are you just you try you want to try and Shore things up you want to you know try and stem the bleeding as it were and you know I think sometimes like he’s maybe overly cautious and you know we’ve seen we’ve seen other games where defensive-minded midfielders come on when it’s like level and you just think if there was a more attacking option that came on there then you know you just don’t know like no I I don’t think you know don’t think fans are going to I don’t think fans would sort of get on his back if it was 1-1 and he brought on attacking players and he went for it and they lost 2-1 but they absolutely are going to have a goal if they lose two one because he’s made the defensive change and you know it’s still it’s still than a goal because that the other thing I kind of thought at the time was because dande were playing that sort of like with wing backs I kind of went oh I wonder if he’ll just try and match them up but obviously we’d have to sacrifice you know if you wanted to go 532 you’d probably have to go 531 um and at least we’d have some and you know then you might you might go right let’s get Lis Miller on you know we can put Nikki CAD in left wing back get you know aale in and something like I kind of wondered if we’d we do something like that because I’m sure I watched the clip after when they asked him about it and he said oh well you know dundy were obviously gonna go down the wide areas and I wanted to get you know aale and I was sort of thinking but why did you not do that straight away because obviously they were obviously going to come down the wide areas that’s you know that’s where even before descending off that’s where their most attacks kind of play from so maybe you’re right maybe as they wanted to see how things planned out a little bit but obviously you know within sort of 15 20 minutes it was it was probably game over wasn’t it it was and uh speaking of game over I mean this was it comes you know we’re in the first half injury time here it’s I mean it’s it’s a fairly it’s it’s a bog standard sort of back pass from Jack iale um it’s there’s no immediate danger I think what’s particularly telling from this picture is that you know there’s just there’s two Defenders you’ve got rocky bashiri you’ve got Jack I you got Joseph B and then I think that looks like Simon Murray yeah and said Palmer Holden is nowhere to be seen yeah that’s why that’s why I clipped that one um because it’s just to show how you know this isn’t like a player sneaking off the back of Rocky and closing them down there’s a huge amount of time there aale you know does the right thing even his movement after it’s perfect he drops in to receive it again and you know BK being left footed I I just presume that’s where the ball would would come back out I think iale thought that as well um I honestly I’ve watched it numerous times um even here when you see it’s there’s still a huge amount of time as that Ball’s coming um obviously muray it’s like a decent press from muray in terms of how he’s angling and obviously burk’s let it go on to his right hand side which you know there’s been so many times this season he’s he’s not touched that side at all and he’s just stayed with his left foot and he’s just like thumped it long or whatever and people are like right fine you know just get move the ball on but going similar to what we’ve said about a beat early on it’s just an awful first touch um and just no no awareness of what’s round about him um I mean then he’s very lucky that I mean he could have easily got himself sent off and with the way he kind of flies out after it and when that goal goes in that’s it you know it’s it’s game over that that group of players you know we manag to sort of steady things I suppose a little bit um after the two goals but you go in at 2-1 you can come out the second half and you keep the score line down you just might get that half chance you might get that moment but 3-1 no chance um and it’s just in incredibly disappointing and although we’ve I think we’ve tried to be really fair when we’ve spoke about b six something like that it’s just yeah just unforgivable isn’t it it is um I mean I to be fair I said at the time I just described it as circus stuff because I mean it really is and yeah I mean I I don’t yeah I don’t think it’s particularly fair to sort of like point the finger at people for sort of collective errors but I think this one here it’s just it’s it’s hard to look at it as as anything other than um you know just it’s an Everybody by BK he’s had he’s had similar mistakes so far this season um I did I did think trying I mean he kind of after the goal goes in he looks at iale and sort of like holds his hands up as if to say you what you’re playing at which I thought it was bold um you know the very least bordering on cheki because you know I mean all joking aside it’s I mean you know you watch the highlights back obviously we’ve just got the the still images here but iale plays the ball back to him and immediately as you say drops in and calls for the pass again so he’s making it clear he’s like just you know here’s the ball give it back to me and we’ll you know we’ll start again but as you say like you know the ball comes back to him he’s got time to you know just get rid of it either putting that out of play he’s probably got time to you know put it back to aale um and it’s just yeah it’s just a really it’s a really poor touch and it’s just the fact is it’s not the first time it’s happened and you know I think that it sort of obviously it raises issues for the Defenders if they’re not confident about the goalkeeper behind them then that’s going to affect the way they play it’s going to affect you know their confidence there were even times I think in um I think it was the second half of the the s game where you know Rocky Bish was obviously on at half time he was getting the ball and ordinarily he might have passed it back to Bk and you know they would have started again but he was actively looking to avoid that and I just think when you can see that when it’s that obvious yeah I just think you know and I mean there’s B’s obviously getting a lot of a lot of stick from the fans and you know it’s understandable there have been a few errors um and it’s it’s one of those things where it does it’s kind of permeating throughout the whole team the moment you know players are making individual mistakes you look at any any player in any position in the past couple of weeks there’s been simple passes that are going out of play um you know just people not making runs it’s it’s s of basic stuff and it’s it is self-inflicted you know David grey keeps saying this you know self-inflicted mistakes individual errors um you know and then you’ve got the players coming out and saying well you know we you know the gapper can’t do anything about this we we have to just make sure we’re not making the mistakes but I think the more it happens you know I mean these when when a player is making the same mistakes and especially when it’s someone like a goalkeeper that’s a specialized position like that then I think you know you are looking at the coaching staff and you’re saying well how’s that still happening because if he’s not comfortable with that then there needs to be there needs to be sort of a plan in place if it does happen like you know if he doesn’t get the ball back great but if he does then is he just does he swing at it and get it get rid of it what what does he do because at the moment it doesn’t look like that at all and no and and and what’s I suppose sort of I’m definitely not Playing devil’s advocate here it’s not long before that he makes like an unbelievable save um to his bottom right hand post I don’t know if you remember that chance but yeah like a it was a crazy good save up there with his one against a away to Ross County as well which was phenomenal so you’ve obviously got someone there that’s a a very good shot stopper um yeah the other parts of his game are as you know with his feet and and crosses and things like that are very weak you can even see the way dunde packed The Penalty Box for that corner partly is down to the fact they know he’s not going to come out and get it or if he does there’s a chance that um you know he’ll get shoved off or he won’t make it in time so teams are actively looking to do that and and yeah like you said here with ayale and I noticed that with Rocky I’ve actually thought I’ve noticed it with aora quite a lot and I thought early preseason he was quite comfortable going back building on the ball especially against opposition that like weaker opposition or lower opposition but as The Season’s progressed he’s become a bit of a I’m taking no chances I’m just going to thump this out the park and um because I don’t think he feels comfortable going back in that direction so listen it’s a big I mean I was there for Smith’s game against kely away earlier in the season and you know he didn’t really have a huge amount to do apart for put the ball at his net but and I know gra has stuck with players and um he also at the same time talking about Campbell has then said no I’m going to protect players I’m going to take them out the firing line for a bit we’ll get to I suppose at the end but I’ll be very interested to see if he starts on tomorrow night yeah I mean G also said I think it was after the well it was actually after the Celtic game in the the premier Sports cup where it was a similar actually a similar incident that led to goal where didn’t deal with a didn’t didn’t deal with a back pass and resulted in a goal and I think what gray said afterwards was like I can’t keep picking players if they’re making the same mistakes now I I completely understand you don’t want to just change Personnel for the sake of it because you know one thing you want to have is you want to try and have um you know consistency of selection especially with your defense um you know especially with your back five you want your Center half and your goalkeeper to sort of build up an understanding you want them to be comfortable with each other and you know you want them to you don’t want them to be any issues you want them to be happy just knocking the ball about yeah that’s fine we know what we’re doing but I think almost almost for like BK’s sort of sake I think you know just get him out the f in line whether it’s Jordan Smith whether it’s Max borich um who you know is not I know there’s been some debate if he’s on loan at the moment he’s not he is you know he’s at Easter Road he’s he’s the third Cho keeper um he’s taken part in the pre-match warm-ups before every single game Home and Away um you know unlike Smith he has played in League games for hips before he’s played at tin Castle um you know coming on as a sub for David Marshall he’s played in European games you know he has he’s obviously got a bit more experience than um than Jordan Smith has of Scottish football for for example but you know I just think you know I think it is admirable that gray wants to stick with players and just say I’m not just going to drop you at the first L of a mistake if he was doing that then we’ have had extremely uh different starting elens for pretty much every game so far the season um but I do think you know there does I think there does need to be like a serious discussion and again we can maybe cover this when we’re we’re looking at the the team selection for tomorrow the possibilities but I just think you know a game like this and like it’s not the first time it’s happened um you know from BK I just sort of think you know take him out the fire in line change it up you give him a break give him a chance to kind of reset mentally because you know it is it is tough like as as gray rightly says you know when you’re a goalkeeper it’s like the most lonely position on the pitch if you make a mistake nine times out of 10 it will result in a goal and it’s sort of you know it’s highlighted even more um you know if you’re a midfielder and you lose the ball in Midfield and it results in a goal then you can say well you know you still got a chance that the goalkeeper saves it you’ve got a chance that a Defender gets a leg and something like that but when you’re the goalkeeper and you’re making mistakes like that there is no hiding place um and I just think as you say like he has he has made some good saves um there’s that save away to Rangers um save at Ross County as you say the save just before um just before this goal which was you know he got down really well to it um especially in those sort of conditions you see those kind of shots sort of skiding all the time but it’s I feel like it’s probably it’s probably Gra biggest um kind of selection dilemma if you like going into tomorrow’s game um even more so than you know who plays left back or or what formation he goes for is just does he does he keep Faith with uh with b um but moving on uh this is the this is the goal I mean the the second half was a I mean not event really we we we tried to you know he tried to keep kich and Yuan together and and you know I think I thought Yuan had some bright moments and I thought Miller came on and and tried to get the ball forward you know tried to cut inside I thought he was you know I thought he was all right I think he did well um but and actually In fairness I actually thought Rocky had quite a good game and was fairly solid and coming back in especially after um sort of a long period of absence out the team um but the on band as well once NE went off which a yes yeah I noticed that as well and but and that probably shows you the position that we’re in you know where in terms of the the leadership and a guy that’s sort of been frozen out at times and probably not being treated fairly at times as well as as given given the captain’s armband but yeah I mean again it comes from this you know he’s he’s traveling with the ball across it’s obvious that it’s going to go to Miller and it’s just one too many touches um but also wanted to highlight as well you can see it’s the guys like Cameron and and muray and and stuff like that like they just like this is the 90 91st minute they’re 3-1 the game’s done but they’re still willing to press they’re still willing to try and win the ball back and obviously once it’s one back and it’s pinched it’s it’s an easy it’s an easy throw ball muray makes the run to kind of stop aora being able to kind of really do anything about it and um like I don’t want to lay into BK even more I’m not really sure he could have done too much but it just seemed quite a straightforward finish from Main B kind of is quite close to his near post and it leaves a kind of other space kind of open just for mean to kind of roll it into the bottom corner but it was just as I said you know conceding towards the end of the game it was just a bit of salt in the wounds really um but it was more so just to highlight that I suppose for d for a Dundee point of view just the fact their players just right up into those final moments in the game are still pushing still pressing um and it’s something certainly from our record in the final moments of games that we could probably take a leaf out their book yeah that wouldn’t be uh would be the worst thing happen um just just on that note with with Rocky sort of coming out of Defense with the ball like that like they don’t really like aor did seem to be doing that quite a bit at the start of the season and then it was almost like he was it’s almost like it was coached out of him he was told like don’t don’t do that don’t do that too much which seems a little bit strange because obviously that was one of the big things about when he signed was you know this is one of his strengths he can play out from the back and partnering him with egeta you thought and you know eeta said this as well in his his press conferences he said that he’s is essentially the the kind of non nonsense type Defender where you know the ball comes to he just clears it and you know hor does the fancy stuff but obviously with you know Rocky in there there’s not an awful lot on from him so it just feels like Rocky does feel like one of the few defenders in or one of the few Central defenders in the team who is going to try and progress the ball forwards but at the same time you know he needs he needs options and he needs to know when to you know when to utilize them yeah and it’s funny you mentioned aor because at the start of the season and watching them in preseason um I think was it who did we play at home was it Peter head at home when we won sort of four four nil or something I can’t remember but and listen opposition wise yeah you take it into account but aora was stepping out cutting inside hitting long range switches pretty accurate you know in Miller things like that like I was thinking what a what a signing this is you know somebody that’s really confident and comfortable on the ball and like you’ve said he’s he’s just sort of regressed quite a lot um and I don’t part of it was because e potato was struggling so he’s maybe thinking right you know get the ball away quicker and move it on and and stuff like that but we’ve seen like it’s such an important part of football these days your Center halfs you know especially the way HEBs are going to play if you’re wanting to get the ball into the wide areas like you’re going to need your Center halfes to carry the ball forward and probably commit a player every now and again so um it’s maybe something he’s going to have to to step up and do it’s also interesting he sort of obviously Rocky coming in then pushes him to Right Center back compared to left Center back where he’s been playing for quite a lot of the season but I’d like to think that then he’s on his natural right hand side it might be a bit more comfortable for him to to move the ball out but certainly if Marvin’s out for a while um he’s going to need to step up and and do more of that yeah and I think the I think the chat is that it’s probably looking about Christmas time before Etta comes back so there is you know there’s a lot of games in December as there always is so you know that would that would appear to be you know at least scrabbling around for some sort of positive at least there will be a run of games for um Rocky and aora to kind of build up a partnership assuming that gry does stick with a back four which nicely Segways into our final topic for discussion which is what on Earth does he do for tomorrow um obviously beta being suspended is the I know we said that was I know we said BK was maybe the big call but in some ways you know not having a beta available means he has to rethink his left back options or indeed if he goes to back three because at the moment you know your your sort of backup left back is Jack iale your other two left back options um like the academy players both out on loan um you know you’re not going to recall them so my concern I suppose would be with e potata injured and AA suspended depending on how you line up your back four you’re not going to have any defensive cover on the bench really um depending on how you depending how he lines up or Central defensive cover like natural Central defensive cover I mean I know we’ve seen we’ve seen Le Miller play um as a right sided Center half in a back three uh before Chris cadens played there before so you know he does have options but I mean does it feel like he’s going to change things up drastically or is he just going to kind of stick with stick with a version of what he’s been uh what he’s been using recently yeah I mean it’s probably like I can’t think of a more difficult lineup to call H Ever I know you’ve been looking at this and you’ve been having problems trying to come up with something that work yeah major problems because I think it’s any time you sort of think you’ve fixed one or you oh that that kind of works you kind of you’ve you know kind of spoiled something somewhere else or a potential opportunity elsewhere I mean I think you’re right in saying about the defensive side of things um if he sticks with a back four I can imagine and and again I don’t know too much about aale in terms of is able to bomb on and whip balls into the box we never really we’ve only really seen him at left Center back in a three and against 10 men um sorry against 11 men in a 10 when you know which he was in on Saturday so I don’t really know how well suited he is to to that left back Ro maybe people can can comment and and let me know if that’s if if they know more about him but if that’s the case then you probably do stick maybe aale Rocky orora and Miller probably if you stick a four um and then yeah burer Smith I really I really don’t know what you’ll you’ll go for there um but then if you go a three then I would think uh aale left Center back rocki potentially Center and oor right center back would be my three um I’d probably play Miller right wing back um and you’d probably have Nikki Caden left wing back would be agreed um then you could if it was if something happened or whatever then yeah then you could go Miller Right Center back and Chris Caden right wing back you know you could sort of tweak that a little bit um I mean the Midfield genuinely every week seems like a role of the dice um in terms of of what you do obviously n will be playing because the suspension doesn’t kick in until Saturday which we discussed before we came on um I would imag you would keep n in triantis he obviously had a out of possession he wasn’t great um at the weekend so there could be you know do you switch him out for Quan you’re attacking M you know depending on if you go an attacking midfielder do you I mean you probably want to bring hilet back in just for his experience um in that position so if again if you were in that 42 31 part of me was thinking Yuan hilet and probably Nikki Caden is your kind of three with kurich up front that leaves Bole to come off the bench um which I think gives you at least a bit of an option there plus Gale as well if you were to go that sort of 352 which we discussed before I’d be quite tempted to um maybe go n Le it and maybe between hiler or Campbell there and maybe go boil and kurich up top which would leave early on the bench um which would be quite harsh potentially just after his recent games and things like that but that’s the only way I could think about balance and sort of having people that can like new and Campbell can get the energy and stuff going in like that and then you’ve got L on the ball who can maybe hit the the killer pass type of thing um but potentially Campell not in and maybe you would have hilet in that number 10 role just to to link things up so I I if it was me i’ I’d probably go switch to a three and play something like that I think especially if you’re maybe going to play Smith as well and you know then you kind of want to protect that as much as possible yeah I mean that’s my my got feeling as well is that you know it does need to be a back three I don’t know whether you know whether that’s a 343 whether it’s a 352 obviously you know we know we know from what he was saying in the summer that he does he likes to be flexible um sarin obviously a 2-1 win against aine at the weekend they went with a 343 um in attack and imagine probably changing a 541 um you know without the ball which is something again that HS can do but it’s just whether or not whether or not it makes a difference I suppose um I interesting to know in terms of the Midfield you know no an Kenna Jake Dole Hayes Luke Amos none of whom have really been well I mean certainly Amos and Ken’s been right with the picture Amos was I think maybe a couple of substitute appearances towards the start of season Dole Hayes hasn’t been involved since he came off the bench against Hearts all three of them involved in in first team training today um might not mean anything um obviously Rory whisker and um Jacob McIntyre un loan at the moment they were involved in in training so it’s you know you never want to read too much into it but it is we’ve seen a lot of Midfield combinations and you know we still I think I think we still haven’t sort of seen we still haven’t seen sort of all the combinations that we could have um in that Midfield and you know it does feel the sort of thing you can overthink if you’re the if you’re the manager if you’re the coaching staff you can you can overthink how to you know how to sort of play especially against a team like Aberdine um who I think L likely to play 4231 themselves um you know obiously could be wrong but um I think I think that seems to be what they’ve played a fair bit under Jimmy tail and I can’t really see them deviating from that so I don’t know if that will come into the into the Reckoning or not but I think the difficult thing the difficult thing as far as I can see is that there’s no there’s not an obvious strong starting 11 from the players that are available and that’s that’s the main issue because in the past you know we said this in the summer that you know with the players who were coming in when things look to be going well in the broadly speaking in the Premier Sports Cup group stages you know you think it’s you know it’s maybe maybe getting to a stage where you’ve got whoever starts in the starting 11 it’s a you know it’s a good mix a good blend of players and then you’ve got options Off the Bench um so whoever if somebody has to drop out you can replace them with someone and you know your performance levels don’t dip you can play the same way you can do the same things hibs don’t seem to have that at the moment they don’t seem to have that no matter who plays um yeah obviously you know the regular red cards doesn’t help that because yeah you can have plans gray has talked so much about you know I mean he’s one of his one of his most used phrases I think is the 11 players start with game or not the 11 players who finish the game like you know Subs are becoming because you’ve got the five Subs that you can use now six if you sort of count the concussion substitute then you know you do have you do have options to change it quite sort of quite dramatically I suppose in in the second half but you know if you’ve got a plan to do that and then you get a red card or just like you know you let in a silly goal then that can change things so as I say biggest biggest sort of indictment of where HBS are at the moment is that there isn’t an obvious I don’t think starting 11 um um that you can sort of trust to to go and put in a performance and and that must be you know that’s I think that’s quite telling yeah I I think to be honest I mean e potato was probably the only sort of first name on the team sheet for the last sort of several weeks um and now that he’s not there there’s some players that we have to play because we don’t have any other players in that position and we’re kind of we have to go through with that um and it is that kind of square pigs and round holes I think any time you think of a combination that works you go that might leave us light in those positions and if we take him off we don’t get that and and yeah and I think listen normally when things are going well you can name off a a first 11 no problem at all whereas for us at the moment and I’m sure for for David grey and the coaching team it is a case of like you touched on earlier Patrick like the we need consistency like you have to have a consistent team um but also the can like when we’re trying that it’s not really working so we’re trying to experiment with other things and he’s just I think it’s just like caught between a rock and a hard place at the minute but I think tomorrow night um you know is probably one of the biggest team selections he’s he’s probably going to make in his managerial career I think yeah I don’t think you’re wrong don’t think you’re wrong there um I think we should leave it there um don’t think there’s an awful lot more we can say and you know we will obviously find out closer to kickoff uh what David GRE and the coaching staff have done him Observer will be there as always to uh bring you the latest prematch postmatch
