well that was boring wasn’t it IP switch W Manchester United W without any further Ado let’s analyze all right so let’s start this tactical analysis video by highlighting the good and before that we need to of course talk about amar’s 343 system the 343 in general is a pretty flat wide system therefore it is uh Perfectly Natural the teams that play the system uh naturally tend to gravitate towards buildups on the wing but of course what makes amorim’s system slightly different is the fact that he likes to use inverted Wing backs uh in this case Joo doot who is Right footed on the left and Amad Dio who is left footed on the right and the reason he likes to do this is because this creates zigzag patterns in that a typical Amarin buildup actually goes from the defensive uh Trio to one of the wing backs and then from the wing back since they are inverted these angular passes towards the center and then from the players who were in the center either they go straight at the defense or they go wide again and these types of buildups can actually be quite difficult to defend against as was the case for most of the first half against uh ipswitch and here is um case in point exhibit a here garnacho and Joo dalod in perfect um coordination perfect Synergy gacho makes a pretty good run into the space and then of course Joo dord finds him and that makes it really interesting uh for us uh from an attacking perspective because these kind kind of plays they can tend to drag uh the opposition fullbacks in this case Twan zebe out of position and of course in these kind of situations where there is a lot of space we do have players like gachu and rashford who can be extremely extremely difficult to defend against but that’s not that was not the only uh situation of course here I’m highlight in quite a few sequences that show this Ruben Amarin buildup play just so just to show you guys that of course the goal that we scored in the first half in the first minute of the game uh was no fluke okay so in this sequence again Joo is going to be a key player there of course uh um Andre Onana was kind of our deep Ling play one of the reasons and one of the things sorry one of the factors that make a 343 really potent is the movement of these two players in Midfield you know the base of the Midfield in this case Christian Erikson and casemiro they have to be quite mobile and they have to love to get on the ball otherwise it’s a system that can be quite flat um and easy to defend against um whenever we play against teams that like to press on the front foot energetic team as was the case with ipswitch but here because Erikson comes in to to get the ball and he’s in acres of of space uh Burns right here is in a very tough situation because not only does he need to engage Joo doot but also he needs to make sure that he blocks this passing Lane towards Christian Erikson and of course Joo dalot um exploits that to go and dribble past the player now it opens up an angle for him so he can pass it to Bruno Fernandez and of course much more interestingly towards mialo right there into the wide uh positions another example right here and this one is very crucial in highlighting the importance of movement in Midfield among players like Bruno Fernandez casemiro and Christian Erikson in this case right here as you can see there isn’t a lot of space through the middle and so mazwi can just go wide towards um amadell but Christian Erikson is going to do something interesting right here he carries on running forward and so he takes uh the opposition midfielder with him and then Bruno Fernandez is going to do exactly the same thing and he takes yans kust with him as well now this leaves casemiro in a lot of space right here so mazwi can find this path between the two opposition uh forwards towards casemiro and that was just the right pass to play and casmiro identifies a nice opportunity and then beautiful Exquisite pass towards jod dalod this sequence right here is very important because Ruben amarim system as I’ve shown in that video the last video that I’ve made where I talked about Ruben amarim system uh by um analy in sporting Lisbon’s um game against PSV and Hoven one-1 draw in the Champions League PSV and Hoven were playing the same way as ipswitch you know 4-33 highly aggressive in the press and that caused uh Sporting Lisbon a lot of problems and that’s his well drilled Sporting Lisbon team so of course Manchester United were always going to struggle so this sequence right here shows the importance of having different Pathways of how you can progress the ball forward of course you can go wide towards the the wing backs but of course some times you also have to go through the middle and that’s what mazari and casemiro did but that was only because Bruno Fernandez and Christian Erikson were able to keep moving they remain Dynamic therefore opening up those spaces for uh casmiro and so here of course the ball goes in towards uh jod dalot as you can see again they start deep those Wing backs but then effectively they are the Wingers in um the system and here’s another uh sequence that was really interesting and of course Christian Ericson is again going to play a crucial uh role uh in behind the success in this sequence amadio is going to receive the ball but of course christien Erikson keeps moving and coming close Amad gives the ball and then moves immediately but notice how garnacho right now he’s not playing wide and up he’s actually um getting used to this new role that Ruben amarim is given him uh mainly he needs to play as a false nine or an attacking midfielder Garo is kind of like a false 10 he’s like a 10/7 hybrid in this new system therefore he needs to drop back in effect him and Bruno Fernandez need to create a box alongside casemiro and Christian Erikson in front of the defense in order to pre to provide a lot of passing lanes and triangles for the team and that’s exactly what gatu he did and that’s amazing as soon as he passes the ball back to Christian Erikson he moves into space that’s amazing off the ball movement from garnacho now amadio can find him now this was wasted opportunity but right here with Bruno Fernandes and especially the Lord over there that space should have been exploited um had we not uh kind of gotten confused in this sequence right here now guys you know it’s that time of the video I just need to remind you that if you enjoy this kind of content please make sure guys that you give it the thumbs up it’s really important when it comes to the YouTube algorithm and at this point that is actually the best way you can support this channel don’t do it for me do it for the puppy all right so let’s get going of course I showed you those sequences to show you that the goal we scored in the first minute was not a fluke and that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about here first of all is uh the LI uh positioning right here which is quite interesting he’s playing more as a defensive midfielder and the reason for that is to actually drag some of the forward players to allow Onana to have space and of course here casemiro and Christian Erikson this was in the beginning of the game the instructions were still fresh in the players Minds um and so the players were still quite Dynamic and up for it and so all of these options in Midfield mean that it’s harder for IP Swit to actually put pressure on us so as you can see they’re committing quite a few of their players but mazwi is still free and then now mazra is going to go towards Dio over there but the the mistake that IP switch made is that Davis the left back is now too committed uh Bruno fernz is making a very good run into the wide areas which means that now the left-sided Center back is going to have to engage Bruno Fernandez and this was Checkmate because this is an easy one two and what’s happening now as you can see from these blue circles right here that’s effectively the I switch back four and their defensive structure um is completely compromised right here and so Amad dialo can go forward actually beautiful technique and Pace from amadio as you can say see here gacho playing through the center with jod dalot effectively being a left Winger in this uh sequence but of course uh Ahmad has a lot of uh options here but of course to highlight how messed up their defensive line was because of this move between Amad Dio and Bruno Fernandez Marcus rashford who is attacking the near post is actually tucked in in between the right back Twan zebe and the right-sided center back OA and that just shows you how this move kind of um just completely uh confused the uh ips switch players but then you might say Well Mr Scarlet report well how come we were so good with these kind of patterns and yet we did not win the game well actually the answer to that is very simple and this is one of the limitations of the Reuben amarim um system is that you need a lot of movement through the middle from the midfielders you need Wing backs who are um quite good technically and they have a wide range of passing um wide range of passing players like quenda for example are perfect for this uh role but also you need a Target man Striker to be an outlet and that’s where goeres comes into play uh of course here against IPS Swit we started with Marcus rashford who is as far removed from a Target man as a player can be so of course we were limited in the options we had and while I did Praise Christian Eriksen and casemiro and Bruno Fernandez with their movement through uh the middle of course they were not consistent with it they did it in you know in in phases um but of course throughout the game we relied mainly on the wing backs and if switch and uh McKenna is of course uh a very good coach and he kind of understood uh what the game plan was what they did is that they just waited for triggers and then they attacked the wide areas with intensity for example here the trigger when the ball goes to Johnny Evans they know that the next ball is going to go towards uh Joo dalot and as you can see they’re pressing with intensity with tanbe going on garnacho and of course we were impotent and unable to build up again on the wings here this sequence right here just angered me for example here we have a clear um hole in here in between the two um IP switch players but both Ugarte and Bruno Fernandez are not making the the right run what should happen is that Ugarte should probably drop deeper to to to to grab Hutchinson with him and to drag him wider into this area opening up a path for uh Bruno Fernandez to get the ball who should have dropped a little bit deeper but that didn’t happen so now what happens that we have to go back effectively this nullified ugari and Christian Erikson because now they’re not part of the sequence and then here this is the trigger this ball is awkward for Onana to deal with so now the ipsr players just go and attack aggressively by the time the ball reaches mazwi it’s already too late there are four I switch players who are attacking with aggression and of course we are unable to get the ball out but of course all of these things just mean that okay we should have won one nil well then why did we concede a goal why were IP switch so dangerous throughout the game well the reason is this guy Omari Hutchinson who has been really good but I I think he’s a good player but I think that his job was made much easier because he was facing casemiro and Evans in the second half with uh luko and uh Ugarte two players were faster who got physicality intensity uh of course Omari Hutchinson’s impact on the game has lessened but still he had a very good game and what I like about him and this is something that I highly rate from players is of course their off the ball movement casemiro has been marking him but of course Hutchinson has been moving all the time moving into these wide areas dragging Casmir with him in that same sequence right here Johnny Evans is the one marking Hutchinson but look he shakes him easily and then he moves into space where he can uh receive the ball and when he does he’s asking for the ball he’s got Acres of space and then now casimiro comes towards him but of course in this kind of dels oh my God just takes out casemiro out of play and Manchester United were struggling to deal with him here again he’s asking for the ball and what I hate about this and this is one of the mistakes we were making under Eric tags that we just uh overcommit in the press and sometimes you don’t have to this is casmiro and Erikson they’re supposed to be our defensive midfielders and now they’re too overcommitted what’s the point of this and if you do this then the defensive line should also push higher but now what’s happening is literally we’re are in a situation where we are overcommitted with no protection in behind casemiro and Christian Erikson so of course Hutchinson is asking for the ball he receives it and then here with one touch this was beautiful he just takes out johonny Evans and Christian Erikson you cannot play players like Johnny Evans and casemiro against Nimble fast young energetic and dynamic players like Omari tinson that’s just suicide you know it just it just doesn’t work and then again this same um concept of overc committing forward we we have to stop doing that why do we press like headless chickens and some of you might say well okay this was Ruben amarim no actually guys if you watch the game against Manchester City sporting against Manchester city you’ll see how a Sporting Lisbon team and their amm presses uh by the way if you want me to make that video where I can compare how this Manchester United Team in this game Ander ammer impresses compared to uh the game between Sporting Lisbon and uh Manchester City please just let me know in the comment section below I don’t have that footage but I still have the game I can make that video if you guys want it leave a thumbs up and leave a comment uh saying whether you actually want me to make that video or not because this is not how a Ruben amarim team actually presses okay so what happens here is that we have six uh ipsr players against five Manchester United players and then we are just twoo committed one pass just takes out four of our players and then now they can attack in the same sequence Hutchinson again what I love about this player and this is definitely something that I rate a lot and it is the fact that even when he is in tight spaces he still asks for the ball he’s extremely Brave okay he’s cocky he’s confident and the other thing is of course his teammate who still pass the ball to him even though they are risky passes in this case morsey is going to find him garnu misses the interception and look now he’s moving towards casemiro who’s supposed to Mark him he’s still asking for the ball even though casmiro is one or two yards away and then of course with his pace and his technique he just takes him away and that was a beautiful goal by the way Onan would have saved that but it hit mazwi on the head I’m not saying it’s Mai’s fault I’m just saying it’s unfortunate okay we could have won this game had had had it not hit maz’s head but anyway we should have won this game anyway but this sequence right here really angers me I mean what is happening here now of course the Lord is not part of this uh back five because he’s not in the frame but here of course we do have uh Evans the mazwi and uh Dio but the issue that I have here is why is ipswitch left-sided Center back why does he have so much time on the ball to pick up such a good pass but also the other thing is look at casemiro who is he marking who’s he supposed to be with um I just don’t get the current position in and it’s understandable of course it’s the beginning of Ruben amar’s tenure as a Manchester United manager you can’t just expect the players to just pick it up from day one but come on guys you know one thing that I loved about Ruben amaram is that when he was asked whether the the young teams are going to be playing his system in the academy he said no because their education is about becoming uh better footballers you know they have to understand football not understand systems and uh I know what he means he wants intelligent players who can adapt to different systems and different scenarios in the game and I love that approach and I love what Ruben amarim is saying but it’s clear that this is going to be harder said than done because this positioning is extremely abysmal also here the LI is a little bit too deep therefore it’s hard for Manchester United to play the offside trap which we should when dealing with these long balls so anyway the ball comes in in behind AO and here Evans for a player as experienced as Evans a veteran to make this mistake I mean he overcommits here towards deop as if he cannot anticipate where the ball is going to be the ball is going to be here and of course Evans is simply taken out of the game and then of course Onana with a brilliant brilliant save by the way Onana great comeback finally proven everyone what a great goalkeeper he is without the save we would have lost the first game and Ruben amim um against ipswitch and that would have been a complete disaster but anyway this tactical analysis here uh is meant to highlight the positives I the patterns of play that Ruben amarim is trying to implement at Manchester United as well as the limitations of his system all right ladies and gentlemen so yeah Ruben amorim’s debut was okay you know he showed us his football in principles what he intends to do some of it has been successful some of it not so successful but of course on the other hand we have a group of players that need to adapt as fast as possible and a board that need to draft out a streamlined and effective recruitment strategy so we can actually recruit some talented players and build a competitive Squad too early to make any evaluative comments on Ruben amorim’s tactics but a lot of promising signs I hope that you’ve enjoyed this tactical analysis video if you did so please leave a comment in the comment section below until until next time cheers
