different third quarters against Denver and Phoenix two different teams two different approaches did you see any through lines or any any concerns about the defense specifically in these consecutive games uh not not off the top of my head but obviously we give up too many points in the third and and we’re not scoring it there so got a short short add up I know you have to watch the tape but any any initial thoughts on you just mentioned the offense and kind of that we know that goes and affects the defense as well what are anything you can notice on the top I no just both both um we’re not um very good defensively or or very good offensively the last couple games uh in third JJ suggested that after an effort like this defensively him and his coaches have made to look at strategies of what you guys are doing defensively have you seen anything in terms of schemes that um you think could could be helped adjust it now whatever our whatever our um our scheme is for the game we got to go and execute it you guys um have been pretty process oriented throughout this and and you know the results have been mostly good um when when you guys are struggling like especially these last two games how hard is it to to stay both big picture but also committed to the systems and and things that you’re trying to build now we are we are a process oriented team and we understand what you know that’s not going to happen overnight so you know you stay even que you get too high never get too low do you feel like that um these last two games that the the stress of um of losing and struggling has taken you guys out of the stuff you’ve wanted to do no I mean obviously throughout the course of the game you want to play better that’s I mean it’s that simple and when you don’t you obviously you get you know what can you do better you know you’re frustrated at times obviously um but you never get frustrated with the process um you know that that is what it is and you just keep working at it you’ve been self-critical with us about your turnover so far this season uh you had five tonight was more than your season average you seeing something consist L that’s that’s causing them for you so far no I’m make trying to make the right play some of them is just not a good read some of them are um some of them you know I could be a little bit more you know um careful but at the end of the day I’m still trying to I’m trying to make winning play so I I don’t it’s not a big deal for [Music] me time for fishous Focus I have a feeling it’s not going to be a fun one you’re going to make it fun but it’s not I mean I don’t no you know sometimes it’s going to be fun cuz we don’t hear a trumpet I can that that that part where’s the trumpet um the other part is sometimes F film sessions are not fun cuz you you have to the the film never lies here ball in KD’s hands in the corner that skip pass now you got trouble driving down the tunnel LeBron has to decide to come in or ruy leaves to go in and you have to pick between KD and Devin Booker that’s a tough choice to make for cam reddish on the the backside here quick screen little bit of a gap there Devon Brooker that Ball’s going to come out the nage I don’t know if Austin is supposed to come up this High to meet nage but LeBron should be coming in here and then cam would have to rotate to KD in the corner LeBron late again understandably so if you’re guarding Kevin Durant in the corner here ball comes out dbook with a nice hesi and then again if Jackson Hayes comes up DLo has to drop but LeBron comes in leaves his guy open in the corner not sure if that was his rotation on that particular play and then now with KD he’s got two on the ball when that ball comes out LeBron has to make a decision he’s in Dalton connect should not be leaving this guy at the basket to come up LeBron and Jackson will cover that Dalton just falls asleep walks up gives up a layup and so one that’s why JJ looks so puzzled uh on that clip is because you you can’t help up from the basket like when you’re guarding a guy at the basket if you help up it’s going to be either a dunk or a wide openen Corner three and so just kind of you know whether that was the strategy or the scheme those guys on the backside really needed to be trying to solve more of those problems um as opposed to a guy helping up from underneath we heard great breakdown there we heard JJ say in the post game that they may need to reconsider some strategies big game but after watching that is this just something where you’re just not mentally locked into the game plan that you have in general look look look a step slow a little bit like just just a step slow on some of the rotations some of the decisions making and that’s all due to just being you know slapped around in that third quarter and you’re just you know shocked but it’s it’s fixable and I mean we know they can do it it’s just a matter of getting in practice locking in starting the game finishing at 48 minutes locking in defense it’s it’s it’s not something that’s you know they can come out of this really easily if they just mentally lock with one another good practice to help that indeed more to come on access after this was the Dotan connect that is not Doon connect that is Austin Reeves it was so good defish we had to watch it again yeah that’s that’s when even the producers in the back are like man we were searching for some good plays and it just it got tough so we showed the same one twice things felt good in all fairness at that point yeah at that point yeah no that was a key bucket right there and then then we all blacked out yeah 18 and 10 for LeBron back to Phoenix he’s speaking with Mike LeBron we know every opponent is different every game is you like some things in the first half the way you guys were getting shots I thought you know maybe the score didn’t totally reflect it but what did you see come third quarter as you know Phoenix pretty much controlled the whole period once again just thought we were bad in the third quarter um there’s you know a lot to watch and clean up um you know shot selection taking care of the ball obviously the defensive end had to be more aggressive more physical um but I think honestly there’s a little bit of everything um you can do you know to be better does that compound the frustration for you just given the Denver loss and the way that game went yeah I mean and anytime you lose is frustrating um but just not playing good is is frustrating uh you know you have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what it is to change or what you need to do to be better um and you know that’s what we’ll do when when JJ got the job he talked about process being more important and um how process eventually lead to good results um he said that again pregame tonight but when when you’re in it and you’re struggling how hard is it to stay big picture I mean in the moment [Music] um it’s as you’re competing it’s nearly impossible to think about the big pitcher when you’re getting your ass kick um but when it’s all over you sit down you you think about it and you know we’re 10 and seven right now I believe and we’re still in a good spot so it’s not like you know we’re in a bad spot um and and I think you know there’s probably three losses that we have that have been just bad and you know this one and the last one I think uh Detroit we didn’t play good either but um when you end the moment it it sucks cuz I mean who wants to even think about the big pitchure in the moment you think about trying to win a game at that moment the nature of the way The Season’s gone 3 and0 then one and four and then six in a row and 0 and three like how how is that kind of tested the stability uh of of your group kind of like Outlook wise I mean I think that just goes back to being processed you know oriented like um you know when things are going good they’re Obviously good you feel good that’s I mean anything in life you’re doing well at your job you’re happy as soon as you hit a you know a little speed bump you’re frustrated and you you have to you know put your head down and figure out how to uh clean it up and and get back on those you know uh high high waves so uh you know that’s what we’re doing right now like I said um I think that’s why you bring in a system and you bring in a foundation to rely on um because if not then that’s what creates chaos so uh we’re not in that right now um we just have to you know be better uh tomorrow how much accountability has there been inside the locker when it comes to like playing physical and and holding people to account when it’s been emphasized and you guys know what your defense limitations are yeah I mean um I believe if you go around all everybody in the locker room they could they’ll tell you things that they could do better um and you need a group like that so uh you know I know there’s there’s many things I could do to help our team be more successful so uh you know I’ll take accountability there and I know everybody else in the locker room would do the same big picture on this desk is no matter how bad it may feel Austin kind of reminded us they’re still 10 and seven but the one thing listening to him I feel like after these losses he’s competitive these ones don’t sit well no he he he do like to to lose now you’re going to lose some games but he’s not happy with how they’re losing third quarters are atrocious and they’re too good too experienced and you know uh know better uh so yeah it’s a fix that you know they they they have to they have to figure it out somehow I mean it’s early in the season and they have a long season to go and they can fix it but it’s still excuse for this team uh with the experience they have and the Personnel they have to be having these third quarters it’s like a a virus they got a they they they they need a zpack yeah no doubt about it I mean I’ll tell you what I’ve talked to Austin after the last two games out here and he he was absolutely poed you know he missed some free throws down the stretch against Orlando not happy about that uh you know the team loses by almost 30 I think it was 25 exactly to Denver and Austin at his locker was really upset about that too I give this guy a lot of credit after LeBron and after ad and after JJ he’s turning into a got to go to him voice for this team because you just feel the fire defish you feel the irritation you know he signed his big contract a year ago he could just be chilling and and cruising but now that that’s not his character and you could tell he he kind of represents the The Angst of the Lakers right now especially when he mentioned that the third quarter he’s like you know this is this is tiring you know he he’s tired of it too believe me he feels that responsibility and it’s not just when they win games yeah yeah no it’s um I mean that’s the type of mindset you need from everyone in the room uh it’s not just LeBron or Anthony Davis or the head coach’s responsibility to bring that type of approach to the game like you’re just as responsible for the the results that are tied to the process like you play a vital role in that so you can’t excuse yourself or try to look at the minutes or your shot attempts or lack of and say well you know it’s them that is causing what’s happening like you’re all in it together um I I think this group really likes each other a lot and and they aren’t going to um split apart but something definitely you know needs to shift and I think we hey Lakers particularly in the third quarter Phoenix dominated that period and it was a game changer as LeBron put it I just thought we were bad in the third quarter and he’s right the Lakers inability to score efficiently and their defensive breakdowns allowed Phoenix to take full control of the game it’s been a recurring issue for the Lakers in recent games and LeBron recognizes that we’re not very good defensively or offensively these last couple of games he admitted the team’s offensive Rhythm which has been a strength early in the season has been disrupted at the same time the defense has been game after halftime LeBron went on to say that there were a lot of things to clean up after the game shot selection ball handling and more aggressive Ive defense the Lakers couldn’t seem to find a solution and Phoenix capitalized on every mistake we also saw how that mental toughness was tested in real time LeBron said in the moment it’s nearly impossible to think about the big picture when you’re getting your ass kicked that’s a real statement right there it’s easy to get caught up in the frustration of the loss especially when the team can’t execute on either end of the floor the Suns offense with players like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker leading the charge was simply too much for the Lakers to handle but even in the frustration LeBron stayed focused on the bigger picture he acknowledged that the Lakers have had some tough losses this season but there’s still optimism we’re 10 to S right now and we’re still in a good spot LeBron said it’s important to remember that this is a long season and a few rough patches don’t Define the entirety of the journey despite the struggles LeBron believes in the team’s process oriented approach he emphasized that this isn’t about
