Andy Martino gives us the latest on Juan stto and are the Mets going to be in on G crochet the people at SNY break it down and we’ll react [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] live welcome back to mecast everybody as always I am Ray and if you like our content please like And subscribe to help grow the channel but let’s get right into it Juan stto of course when is he not the topic of discussion there’s rumors flying around all over MLB that this week is going to be the week when teams finally submit their offer I just seen a report by Bob Nightingale right before coming on here that the Dodgers are only in on Juan sto to potentially blow up the price on the Mets or the Yankees whoever lands him also a lot of talk about the Philadelphia Phillies getting involved it looks like they’re going to be on the outskirts of anything it’s going to have to be at their price they’re probably another team that’s just in it to blow up that price but I just listened to the guys at SNY and I want to react to it live on air with you guys let’s hear what they have to say with the latest in Juan stto here’s Andy Martino now that you’re back with us from station fill us in on the latest with the sto sweep Stakes well I think what n Go wrote there is absolutely true you go to the GM meetings you hear that other teams are thinking oh Metson stto but as you said s that doesn’t mean much other than the Mets are known to have a lot of resources and a lot of ambition you know what I’ll say I was as you mentioned I was on a little station reintroducing myself to my kids after the postseason uh I I think they like me more after the week but you’d have to ask them but I had some time to think about this and you know it’s it’s it’s still early my in I obviously did reporting too before coming on the show and no offers have been made no bidding has happened so there is no favorite it it it’s it’s too early to say who’s the favorite to sign stto but there’s some real advantages that I think the Mets have that go beyond uh just money which we know that they have too like for example continuity of what they’re presenting to stto so each team and I think every team that has a chance to sign stto is already presented to him you look at the difference between the Yankees and the Mets and I do believe it’s likely that one of those two teams is going to get stto the Mets leadership cycle specifically I mean Steve Cohen David Sterns and Carlos Mendoza are in the beginning their team excuse me are at the beginning of that cycle they’re all pretty on the job they’re have job security they’re going to be in these jobs he mentions right there job security think about it every post season outside of this past one because they made it to the World Series we keep hearing about is Aaron Boon coming back is Aaron Boone the real manager and then we heard also Yankee fans been screaming for the past three years for Brian cashman’s Head because he has been unable to De develop any type of farm system when you think about it name me a picture outside of Luis srino that he’s really developed in the last 20 years you really can’t do it so a lot of Yankee fans been calling for his head and there’s also been rumors that Brian cashon might be out the door shortly just because he’s been with the organization for such a long period of time but let’s keep listening for a long time so what they’re telling stto is likely to be what is the situation with the Mets for a long time to come you’re talking about someone who’s going to be now signing up for a decade or more to be somewhere whereas with the Yankees although the Yankees usually or if not almost always find a way to be really good or at least really competitive Brian Cashman I reported this before on the show and it was in the book that we talked about on the show that that I reported he’s possibly going to be looking to move on at some point or transition to another leadership team I’ve named Kevin ree Who currently works in the organization as a potential successor to Cashman over the next two or three years none of this is certain but that raises questions for the incoming free agent of who’s going to be running this team that I signed up for is it going to be like it is today are the presentations that I’m hearing from these groups going to be what it’s going to be like in four years six years seven years eight years and I think the Mets are in a better position to say what we tell you today is what you’re going to experience so I agree with Andy there on that point when you think about it with the New York Mets Mendoza is new but he’s been Pro obviously last year he proved a ton he took a team that had no business being where it’s at with to within two games of a World Series David Sterns is clearly not going anywhere and a big thing too for SoDo if I’m looking long term it’s not just about if Cashman Sterns or Mendoza Boon it’s who’s going to spend money both teams are probably going to spend money so then I look to who’s got the better farm system is there any other superstars coming through the ranks and when you look at the Yankees side we hear about pretty much nobody the one guy that they have is uh his name’s escaping my mind but he hit like 220 last year the Mets have countless stars coming through their system or potential stars and those guys could also be moved for bigger pieces and that’s the grand schema thing at the trade deadline who’s got the pieces to either buy a better player or develop another younger player because these players are not dumb at the end of the day they’re you’re not going to be able to buy every single position so that’s where you know that’s my that’s my point on that now to a player that I think the Mets should absolutely be in on and I know there’s differing opinions throughout MLB some people think it’s going to cost you your best top three prospects for some systems that might happen for the Mets I don’t think so because I think the Mets top three with Gilbert Williams Sprout arguably even Clifford you could throw in there all four of those guys are considered absolute premium stud prospects so maybe you only have to give two of them up but I want to get Give a listen to the people at SNY here what they have to say in regard to this situation time for the walkoff gar crochet is being shot by the white socks it would take a hul to get him but crochet at just 25 years of age has a ridiculous 12.9 K per nine he started 32 games in an All-Star season last year for the worst team in baseball history with the white socks Andy are the Mets realistically in on crochet I’ll be quick I don’t want to eat up Hannah’s time I know you’ve done a lot of crap this question after I teed you up so nicely look I’m eating up your time now you see what I’m actually doing anyway on crochet I will say this it’s tough to get a David Sterns to say like yes this player is and that’s one thing I love about the Mets Steve Cohen and David Sterns do not leak their Control Band of their team we in on him specifically but I do know that the Mets have been on all levels of the trade discussions like high-profile players little trades like Sterns like to do sometimes whereas last year it was they were still kind of in Prospect hugging mode this year to get a guy like crochet I they’re they’re there in those kind of conversations for sure whether they’re going to be the team that gets them I don’t know but they’re a team to watch on him the reason that I struggle with these kinds of segments is because we’re not talking about the bad players when we’re talking about this we’re talking about the good players and then it’s like do I think the Mets should get car crochet absolutely they’re not my prospects I’m not hugging them right but I do think that we’ve talked about the Mets looking for value on the pitching front oh they want to spend they they need 700 fake dollars to give to WAN sto so they can’t give it to a pitcher trade trades are a good way to acquire really good talent and this is a maybe the best pitcher available other than ROK Sasaki and you don’t need to spend any money and that’s bs2 we don’t know what Sasaki is going to be no one can arguably tell me they 100% know what sasaki’s going to be go look at the national league rookie of the year that’s all I need to say I was told that Yamamoto by far was the best Japanese player that we’ve ever seen come over here he’s like Sai Young he’s better than Otani eh he turned out to be pretty good but better than those guys I don’t think so so can we slow it down in the Sasaki talk I want him just as much as the ne the next Mets fan but the guy’s got to pitch in Major League Baseball before we can just anoint him the best available pitcher you just need to send spend prospects so I think with the season that they put in this past year this year and wanting to save money on the pitching front why not put together a compelling package for gck cret I I I will say that with one caveat because of course like yes of course you want G crochet but this is not going to be like a Brett batty and some like little like little pieces over here this is going to be Jeet Williams and a bunch of like your top of your farm system disagree I think jet Williams and Brandon spro are off limits I think everybody else would be available and not to say the other people I mean there’s a ton of organizations where Ryan Clifford and Drew Gilbert would be guy Pro number one or number two prospects in plenty of the farm systems around the league the Mets have just spent so much time energy and resources in building this farm system into what it is today so if you’re really talking about building a sustainable model that can re build over and over and over and over again as much as I say hey never Bank on prospects go ahead get the guy David Ser is gonna think about that and he might he might pause Laura I’m with you on this I am the the furthest thing from a prospect hugger however they’ve taken years to build this up and now you’re going to go blow it up for crochet like if it’s the final pie yes I do not believe gar crochet is the final piece but how could you honestly say that s we were within two games of the World Series our Ace had a 70 ra practically in the World Series we had no pitching at all you’re gonna have kodai S back this year you go get sha manah back and you bring in crochet he absolutely could be the final piece I also want to see how the Mets fill the holes in the infield potentially center field pitching I know pitching I understood I just you going to blow it all up for him maybe that’s a gist let me know if you think I’m wrong I absolutely think gar crochet who’s 25 years old would 100% be worth it you’re telling me next year our top three guys crochet sang and manah that is a top seven or eight rotation easily in MLB and that’s the kind of rotation that’ll Propel this team you tell me you have Juan s in right field and potentially you bring in crochet and then you add little pieces around that is 100% a recipe for success in my mind maybe I’m just nuts but I think juano is gonna get paid close to $700 million the more that I hear about it I think it’s GNA come from Steve Cohen I really hope it comes from Steve Cohen let me know what you guys think down below thank you for hanging out again and as information comes we’ll bring you more and more content don’t forget to hit that like And subscribe until next time peace
